“I don’t think Azula had a deeper connection with either of them”

but why? Is it because Azula is secretive and aloof when it comes to expressing strong emotions like pain and love? Or because she didn’t love them the same Mai and Ty Lee loved her? Because after Ozai and Zuko, there’s no one else in the world Azula felt closer to than Mai and Ty Lee. Sure, their friendship was by no means healthy, but it was genuine and it should go without saying. Not to mention Mai and Ty Lee were Azula’s only friends. Meaning that if she had sensed that they were “fake” friends who only respected her because she was royalty and all back in the Royal Fire Nation Academy for girl school, they wouldn’t have become friends in the first place.

Azula understood Mai better than anyone. Because she experienced her pain firsthand; What it’s like to be nobility who have to live up to the expectations of the demanding supremacism county every single day, what it’s like to suppress your emotions not to disappoint your parents under whose pressure you have to live and grow, what it’s like to stay silent when you want to speak up, what it’s like to conceal your pain and most importantly, what it’s like to live with all this every single day for years. And so much more. Ty Lee didn’t seem to understand Mai that way, or understand the seriousness of Mai’s issues altogether. You said it yourself, that if Ty Lee hadn’t stopped them from killing one another, and one of the two somehow survived, they killer of the other would never be the same anymore. And not only because of PTSD and the feeling of actually killing a person, but because neither of the two wants the other to die. Mai and Ty Lee actually know what a monster her father is because hello he burned his own son and banished him. So they understand that she had no choice but to become who she became. So Mai and Ty Lee pity Azula and Zuko. Provided if Zuko shared with them in detail how exactly Ozai fucked up Azula in the head, they’ll become more likely to forgive her and want to help her recover.

They may want to hurt each other physically/emotionally/psychologically at most due to the resentment and anger that the three of them harbored thoughout the ages of their toxic friendship with her but they don’t want to kill each other (comic!Mai almost did though lol but the comics are not canon~). I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they actually just want Azula to become a better person, fix her mommy and the other issues and finally be friends again. Normally this time. And if I remember correctly, you also said that you can’t imagine Azula not reconciling with Mai and Ty Lee eventually and becoming friends again. Neither can I. And not just friends. I believe that they would be life long friends like Aang and Zuko. Sisters in arms, you could even say. Who have known each other since childhood until death. Oh, for some reason I just remembered a very important theme of the Avatar Universe. That friendship can last longer than lifetimes. Moreover, if Mai is confirmed to be Izumi’s mother, Zuko’s wife, which is I belive like 80%, then that makes her and Azula sisters-in-law. Basically family.

So if that’s not a deep bond/connection/relationship, then I don’t know what is. Alhough, I may not comprehend what a deep bond means (given how unsociable I am lol). Phew. I sure wrote a lot. Hope you’re still here. I’d be happy to hear your thoughts!  Have a nice day, Nichya^^

Everything you said it’s correct, I think I just chose my words poorly. When I said “She doesn’t have a deeper bond with either of them” I meant it as “She isn’t closer to one than she is to the other/she doesn’t have a favorite”, and not as in “The bonds she has with them are actually not that deep.”

Even looking at Mai and Ty Lee’s friendship, it isn’t all that different from their friendship with Azula, since despite all the love they do have some problems, mainly related to traumas they have not yet healed from. The only real difference is that Azula’s position as princess of a nation that normalizes, expects and praises abuse made her oscilate between “leader of the group” and “tyrant of the group”, and since the girls respond to it differently, some people end up thinking “Oh, Ty Lee is the one she’s actually close to since she shows more affection to Azula and she reacts well to it” or “Oh, Mai is the one she’s actually close to since they’re much more alike” when in reality Azula loves both of them equaly 

(And their friendship is the gayest thing to happen in the Fire Nation since Sozin turned to Roku and said “Look, I know this is your wedding day and all, but do you wanna rule the world with me? It will be totally platonic, I swear”)

Summary: you and Zuko had eyes for each other, but Zuko was afraid you wouldn’t return his feelings because of his identity. One day, you ask him on a date.

A/N: this is my contribution to @fromthewatertribe‘s 1k event! I used prompt #23: “I really like having you around.” It was heavily inspired by the date Zuko had with Jin. I didn’t intend for it to be so long, but alas...this always happens whenever I write anything. This is my first fic btw, please go easy on me. Enjoy! :)

The boy noticed. He noticed the girl who always sat in the corner coming in more often. He attributed it to becoming more familiar with frequent customers, but that wasn’t entirely true. How could he not notice her? She was pretty and kind. He wanted to asked her out, but he was afraid to. He wondered how she would react to his true identity.

A banished Fire Nation prince who spent years searching and hunting down the avatar only to become wanted by his country…that’s who he was. She would hate him, turn him into the Dai Li if she found out. It would be too risky, he decided. And so, he pushed his feelings away to focus on his new job: making tea.

“Zuko,” whispered the boy’s uncle.

“What?”

“She’s here!”

Zuko furrowed his eyebrows. “Who?”

“That girl!”

Zuko finished wiping the teapot before turning around. And there she was: the girl who always sat in the corner, who was, of course, sitting at the table in the corner.

“You should take her order, and...maybe have a little chit chat,” uncle Iroh said, nudging Zuko with his elbow.

“Ugh, no,” Zuko grumbled, “I’m not flirting with a customer, uncle.”

“Oh, come on. I see the way you look at her. I also see the way she looks at you.” Uncle Iroh turned to face him. “I think it’s mutual,” he said, bouncing his eyebrows up and down.

“Tch, you’re ridiculous. I’ll take her order, but that’s it!” Zuko hissed.

Secretly, Zuko was a happy to take her order. Another secret was that Zuko didn’t need to take her order. He had it memorized. The girl always ordered a cup of ginger tea. As much as he ignored his feelings, he had to admit that he still enjoyed seeing her.

Zuko grabbed a pad of paper and pencil, though he didn’t need it, and walked up to the girl. “Hello, how can I help you today?”

She looked at him and smiled sweetly. “Hi! Can I have ginger tea?” she asked.

He nodded. “Sure, I’ll bring it to you in a moment,” said Zuko as he (unnecessarily) noted her order. Ignoring the smirk on uncle Iroh’s face, he brewed a pot of ginger tea, poured it into a simple, clay cup, and returned to the girl.

“Here you go,” he said, offering the warm cup. The girl thanked him, took the cup and handed him several coins in exchange. Just as he was about to leave, she asked, “what’s your name?”

Zuko was a little surprised. They never talked beyond greeting each other and ordering tea. It seemed out of the blue, but, then again, it was just a simple question. It didn’t really mean anything, right?

“My name? It’s, uh, Lee,” he replied, giving her his fake name.

Finally, she could put a name to his handsome face. After frequenting the tea shop almost daily for the past couple weeks, the girl thought it was about time she learned his name and introduced herself. “Nice to meet you, Lee. My name is [y/n].”

“Nice to meet you too, [y/n].”

[Y/n] also thought it was about time she made a move. “I know we’ve only just introduced ourselves,” she began, her fingers anxiously tracing the rim of the cup, “but I was wondering if, maybe, you’d like to go out sometime?”

Zuko was very surprised now. Maybe his uncle was right; the feelings were mutual. Still, things were complicated. He was a Fire Nation prince; she was an Earth Kingdom commoner. There was no way [y/n] would be okay with who he was really was: an enemy. But as risky as it would be, he couldn’t say no. He couldn’t break her heart. That would be harsh, he thought, but it would only be one date, one night out…how bad could it be?

“My nephew would love too!”

Zuko snapped back to reality. He didn’t realize it, but he had been standing there, staring at her in shock for quite some time. Uncle Iroh patted him on the back as if to say “you’re welcome.” Zuko looked at his uncle and internally thanked him.

“Uh, yes, sorry about that, yes, I would like to,” Zuko blurted with a blush forming across his cheeks. It made [y/n] giggled.

“Great! I’ll meet you outside the shop at sunset tonight,” she cheered.

[Y/n] was so excited for her date. She spent all afternoon getting ready. After going through her entire closet, she decided on a long, jade green dress with long sleeves. Then, she spent the rest of her free time doing her hair and makeup. Her heart pounded as she made her way to the tea shop. When she rounded the corner, she saw him waiting outside.

“Lee!” she shouted as she jogged up to him. He was wearing a dark green tunic over an olive green shirt and pants. “It’s weird not seeing you in your uniform, but you look great,” she grinned.

Zuko blushed. “Thanks. Um, you look nice too,” he stuttered, scratching the back of his neck. As much as he wanted to tell her that she looked absolutely beautiful, he didn’t want to come off too strong. This was supposed to be a one-time thing, and then he would come up with some excuse to not go out again and forget about his crush.

“Thanks. Come on, let’s get some food,” said [y/n] eagerly. She clutched his hand and led him to one of her favorite restaurants.

Dinner wasn’t too awkward, but it could’ve been better. [Y/n] tried to make conversation, but the two didn’t go beyond small talk. Zuko just didn’t want to talk much, not because he was shy, but because he didn’t enjoy lying about himself, especially to the girl he liked, and feared he might give himself away. Unfortunately, he was not as good of a liar as his sister. Silence was his friend tonight. Despite that, [y/n] was determined to have a good time with him.

“I want to show you one of my favorite places in the city. Come on!” [y/n] said, grabbing his hand. She ran down the empty, cobblestone street, dragging Zuko behind. The street opened up to a large intersection with a stone fountain in the center covered and surrounded by paper lanterns. However, none of the lanterns were lit. [Y/n] frowned. This date was not going well at all.

“I can’t believe it. The lanterns aren’t lit tonight! It’s always so beautiful when they are...” said [y/n] cheerlessly. She looked away from Zuko to hide her watering eyes.

Zuko felt bad. It was his fault that dinner was so awkward, but it was too late to do anything about that now. This, however, was something he could fix. It would be so easy, yet so dangerous. Zuko would be risking everything, but it would be worth making [y/n] happy. Maybe if I’m quick, no one will notice…but what would she think? He pondered for a moment. Then, he decided.

“Close your eyes,” he told [y/n], “and don’t peak!”

[Y/n] did as he said. She closed her eyes and covered them with her hands. Zuko looked around. The area was empty; no one was around. Quickly, he got into a firebending stance and flicked his hands in all directions, aiming small blasts of fire at each of the lanterns. Soon, the soft, golden light from the flames of the lanterns illuminated the space. Water flowing in the fountain appeared to glow and sparkle. It really was beautiful just as [y/n] said it would be.

“Okay, you can open your eyes now,” said Zuko. And [y/n] did. Her jaw dropped at the sight.

“Wow,” [y/n] said in awe. The fountain looked exactly like it always did when it was lit up, but it never ceased to amaze her. But something wasn’t quite right. “I don’t understand. What happened? How did…” she trailed off, turning to look at Zuko. He gave her a small, nervous smile for an answer. [Y/n] decided not to push it. She knew. There was no other possible explanation.

And she was okay with it, but Zuko wouldn’t know it, because what Zuko didn’t know was that [y/n] was unlike most Earth Kingdom citizens. She never immediately hated someone for being a firebender. Her parents taught her that there are good people and bad people everywhere—even in her home town—and that everyone is capable of change—even our enemies. So, she was determined to prove to him that she was okay with who he was.

Gently, [y/n] moved her hands to take his. They were sweaty, he was obviously nervous, but she didn’t mind. Facing each other, the two locked eyes.

“Now, it’s your turn to close your eyes,” said [y/n].

Zuko did as she said. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, preparing himself for whatever was to come. To be honest, he wasn’t sure what it would be. A kiss? A slap to face? He wasn’t sure which one he was more afraid of. His eyelids twitched from the anticipation.

Slowly, [y/n] stood on her toes and leaned in to softly press her lips to his. Zuko impulsively reciprocated, but only for a moment. Suddenly, his eyes widened as he realized what was happening, and he pushed himself away from her. [Y/n] was startled and confused. “What’s wrong?” she asked.

Zuko paused and looked at the ground in shame. “It’s complicated,” was the only answer he could give her. “I have to go.”

“Wait!” shouted [y/n], grabbing his wrist. “Just tell me. Why is it complicated?”

Zuko didn’t know how to respond. How was he supposed to explain that he was the crowned prince of the Fire Nation, and that he had been banished for years, and that he had been tasked with capturing the avatar, and that he had become wanted, and that he had a huge crush on her, and that she deserved someone better? He didn’t know. Again, he looked at the ground in shame.

“It’s because you’re a firebender, isn’t it?”

Zuko’s snapped his head up in shock. Not necessarily because she figured it out, but because she said it out loud and so plainly. It was a genuine question. He sensed no anger, no fear.

[Y/n] chuckled when he didn’t respond. “Oh, come on, Lee. Those lanterns didn’t light themselves. It’s okay. I’m not afraid of who you are.”

“You’re not?” he asked in disbelief.

[Y/n] shook her head and clasped his hand with hers. “I’m not. Come sit with me.” She led Zuko to the edge of the fountain. Zuko was hesitant, but followed and sat next to her. [Y/n] wanted to be someone he could trust. She wanted Zuko to feel comfortable with her. There was no doubt in her mind that being a firebender in Ba Sing Se made making friends difficult, let alone going on dates.

“There are good people in the Fire Nation. I know it. Just like how there are bad people in the Earth Kingdom. Maybe not as many or as bad, but still…it’s like what my parents used to tell me: there’s good and bad in every person, every group and every nation.”

She sounded like his uncle, and Zuko found it endearing. He also appreciated the fact that she was being so kind and optimistic, but he had to be honest with her. “Well, I’m not a very good person. I’ve actually done some pretty bad things…” he mumbled.

Despite his confession, [y/n] wasn’t scared. Zuko had many chances to hurt her on their date, and he never did. “So why are you here then? Why aren’t you living in the Fire Nation? Why aren’t you burning down villages or attacking people? Why did you come to Ba Sing Se?” she asked persistently.

Zuko thought for a moment. He thought about telling her everything, but it was one thing to be just another enemy and another to be the son of the Firelord. It would be too much for her to handle.

“It’s complicated,” he said, looking at the ground yet again.

“Was it to run away? To have a fresh start?”

“In a way...yes,” Zuko replied.

“Good. There’s no better place to change yourself than here! It’s safe and full of opportunities. Though, it must be hard not being able to be ‘yourself,’ if you know what I mean,” said [y/n].

Zuko sighed and nodded his head in agreement. “It sucks, but it’s not nearly as bad as what others have to experience because of my people.”

“I’m glad you recognize that.”

“How can I not? I feel ashamed of who I am…”

“Don’t be.” Zuko turned to [y/n], curious as to why he shouldn’t be. Any other Earth Kingdom citizen would’ve hissed at him and called him an ash-maker. [Y/n] continued, “we can’t choose where we come from. But every day we have an opportunity to be a better person!”

It was probably another proverb her parents told her, and it was just what he needed to hear. Zuko smiled. For once in his life, he felt okay with his identity. He felt at peace. “You’re right. Thanks,” he said gratefully.

“Of course!” [y/n] cheered. “It’s getting late now. We should go home.”

The two walked hand in hand to [y/n]’s apartment. Neither of them said anything on the way. They didn’t need to. They had done enough talking for tonight and just wanted to enjoy being together.

“I had a good time tonight, even if things got a little…awkward. Um, do you think we could do this again?” asked Zuko, scratching the back of his neck.

[Y/n] beamed. “I’d love to!”

“Really? I mean, great! How about...this weekend?”

[Y/n] nodded, “sure!”

“And please feel free to stop by the tea shop,” Zuko begged, a blush dusting his cheeks. “I really like having you around.”

[Y/n] felt her heart flutter. He didn’t have to tell her to stop by, she already planned on it, but hearing him say that filled her with joy. “I will,” she promised, “good night, Lee!”

“Good night, [y/n]. Oh, by the way, Lee isn’t my real name,” Zuko said, leaning in to whisper in her ear, “it’s Zuko.”

[Y/n] gently cupped his cheek. “Your secret is safe with me, Zuko,” she whispered back reassuringly. She softly pecked his cheek before walking into her apartment. All the while, Zuko watched her, the girl who always sat in the corner, completely lovestruck.

Back at Zuko’s apartment, uncle Iroh was tidying up the place, when Zuko walked in.

“You’re back! How was your date?” his uncle asked, raising his eyebrows.

“Um, it was nice. We’re going out again this weeken—”

“Oh, I’m so happy for you!” his uncle exclaimed, leaping to Zuko and embracing him tightly. “I never thought I’d see the day my dearest nephew would have a lady friend! Tell me about her. Have you kissed yet? When are you inviting her over for dinner? Did you confess your feelings for her?”

“Okay, uncle, that’s enough!”

Alright let's try this Soulmate body switch AU I'm also attempting this whole "make a tag" thing... bare with me, ive only actually used this app for like 4 days now im gonna go with "RayMakesSoulmates" for now... uhm, idk what else to go with uhhhhh yeah, names Ray btw...

Okay here we go. The idea of switching bodies is something a bit strange to me so let me make this work for me.

Basically it happens once a year after you either turn 17 or meet your soulmate. If its the latter then there has to be alot of turmoil and confusion on one side to trigger the first switch because it does not happen at the first encounter. However after the first encounter you'll sometimes have little blurry dreams that are in fact core memories of your soulmate. But theyre always too blurry to point out who's involved and sounds are too muffled to pin point any specific noises words or what have you.

Now, the dreams don't happen every night but they happen often enough that you are made aware that you have met your soulmate at some point recently.

So after Zuko visits the south and they begin their cat and mouse game around the world Zuko often has blurry dreams of white with black falling what he thinks is people screaming and what he knows is muffled crying. While Sokka has random dreams of what he thinks is someone moving away into the darkness and someone screaming out to them but he can't figure out what they're saying. Another dream he has is a blurry glow of bright blue and crying. There's also one that shows up more often than the other two, its when he sees what he believes is someone moving towards him saying something, but its muffled, then a bright light and muffled screaming and crying.

However after Ba Sing Se Sokka has a dream that's clear and vivid, not muffled and not blurry. After he takes a moment from shooting up to a sitting position he realizes that this is not a dream, he's switched bodies. Standing up and moving the blankets off of him he looks around and sees the there are fire nation items everywhere, it looks like he's in a royal bedroom. He elects to keep calm as he moves towards where he thinks is a bathroom, he is correct and when he looks into the mirror he freezes. His heart drops into his stomach. Sokka can hardly believe what he's looking at. Staring back at him is not his face, but Zuko's. He reaches up to touch the scar on Zuko's face. While yes he has control over his body and he doesn't exactly know how to act 'firenation' let alone 'fire nation royalty' he stands straight. "This won't last longer than 3 hours." He reminds himself

"What won't last longer than three hours?" Azula's voice breaks through

Instantly on edge and irritated Sokka- ahem Zuko turns to Azula "what do you want Azula?" He says in a voice thats much less irritated, theyre siblings right? So they have to be chummy right

"Oo! You sound so much less angry!" She muses "disgusting, anyways, Mai wanted me to let you know she's leaving today"

Why would he care about that? Oh they must be friends? Maybe they're dating? Okay, don't screw this up "uh, okay"

"Aw don't be so sad Zuzu~ you two would have never worked out anyways, her and Ty Lee switched bodies just three days ago. It was honestly was kind of amusing watching her string you along" This is not how siblings normally talk to eachother. He just glared at Azula "alright alright sheesh, ill leave you alone" he found something to write on and quickly jotted down the conversation because if he was given that information Zuko would need it.

Meanwhile Zuko shot awake and found himself lying next to appa Katara and Aang, so he is alive huh? Confused he figured he must be dreaming until he realized his vision was clear and nothing was muffled. He was below deck on a fire nation ship. He paused a moment before he stood and noticed Sokka's boomerang beside him. He lifed it and saw Sokka in the reflection. His reaction seemed to mirror(haha get it) Sokka's when he saw Zuko in the mirror. But he dropped the boomerang and it made a loud bang which woke the other two up "Sokka what are you doing, the sun is barely up"

He paused and cleared his throat. Okay, sure he's been chasing them he needs to not blow this "uh, sorry, nightmare"

Katara shifted and turned to him, a genuine look of worry in her eyes "do you want to talk about it?" She asked in a tone that reminded him of his mother. Genuine love.

He forced himself not to tear up at the memory and just shook his head "no, I honestly can't remember it. Just scared me is all" the hesitation in Katara's expression before she responded was strange to him

"Alright, if you say so, do you mind going and asking dad to change the course? We need to stop and get supplies"

His hesitation and expression probably made her realize what happened "okay, youre not Sokka right now are you?" In that moment it seemed to click with Katara "alright, so you're telling me your Zuko"

Zuko flinched and backed up against the wall "look I dont know what you want me to do about this, but I promise you that I'm not going to ruin anything, I know I messed up, hell Sokka's probably noticing that my family doesn't work like yours does. I've been so confused my whole life okay, I'm sorry I betrayed you in Ba Sing Se, my sister has a way of manipulating me. I just hope he doesn't get hurt, he probably doesn't know he needs to keep his mouth shut in my family." Zuko was panicking when Katara reached out

"Zuko, zuko what do you mean?" Her voice shaky

"Look I cant tell you everything, I cant tell you my life story not right now, I need to get through with this. If we meet again, which I hope we do, ill tell you then. But right now, please just show me what Sokka goes through day to day. I know he's not gonna like what happens on the other end, I just hope it doesn't go too bad."

Katara nodded "alright well. Let me walk you around and let you learn the peoples names, ill just say hi to them and say their names." She paused "but first, tell me about your mother, i dont know if I believe it anymore"

He sighed before telling her the entire story.

Meanwhile at the palace Sokka was sitting in a war meeting knowing to keep his mouth shut unless spoken to. He didnt want to set people off or let them know he wasn't actually Zuko. The topic of the earth kingdome came up and Ozai turned to him "Zuko, you've spent time among the Earth kingdom citizens. What information do you have?"

"Uh, the Earth kingdoms citizens are strong willed and hopeful, as long as they have hope they will not yeild"

"Hmmm, I see, we need to crush their hope"

"Well, thats not what I-"

"I think we should take their precious hope and burn it to the ground!" Azula cuts in

"Yes, yes good idea Azula" Oh no

About an hour after the meeting the switch flipped, Sokka made notes about everything that he found important in time before the switch was over.

After they switched back Sokka found his sister and grabbed her shoulders "Katara, I have to tell you something, I just got back from a body swit-"

"And your soulmate is Zuko? I know, he cried when I was nice to him, what happened on your end?"

"Well, his whole family is mean to him"

"Figured"

"I was in a war meeting and found out their plan for the comet"

After relaying the information he found they discussed it with Aang.

Let's skip ahead to after the failed invasion and to the air temple when Zuko shows up.

Soulmates are chosen by the spirits and can hear each other’s thoughts. Sokka thinks it’s cheesy and dumb. Zuko thinks it’s poetic justice that he doesn’t have one because he doesn’t deserve it. Cruel irony is finding out that the prince of the Fire Nation (and the person currently hunting you) is your soulmate.

(Set during and after the events of ATLA, and during some of the events of the comics that follow. This was an excuse to write a slow-burn where Sokka and Zuko are soulmates)

Zuko pulls away first. He stares at Sokka and raises his one brow. “You do realise,” he says dryly, “that you just instigated a major international incident?”

Or: Sokka is impulsive. This is a problem. Especially when he ends up kissing the Fire Lord and immediately running away.

Life can be pretty hard living in a city under a totalitarian regime. Between adhering to the ridiculous curfew, keeping himself from being gunned down by a passing patrolman, and paying his unnecessary tolls to the state for, say, breathing, Sokka has his hands full just getting to work. Add aiding a resistance group on top of that, and Sokka should really be getting paid for this.

Then, one night, Sokka finds an injured patrolman collapsed in the street, who tells him with blood on his lips, “If the patrol finds me, I’m dead.”

Bts paved the way for kpop idc what anyone says no one cared about kpop until BTS

I beg to differ, maybe for the late 2010′s and performing at award shows but not for kpop as a whole. However, this is always going to be a topic that always going to be two sided. And I full on respect your opinion, because I can see where its coming from. 

I’ve always felt like kpop was just a sub genre like a lot of other music, while its not mainstream and US artist will always have the upperhand in their home country kpop has a large enough following in the US, its just like that time were J-rock and J-pop was huge… btw does anyone remember Puffy AmiYumi?

I think the reason as to why it really looks like they were the ones who paved the way for kpop is because of the social media and fandom culture we have now, from 2005-2014 social media culture wasn’t like what it is today, I’m not even talking about fan interaction either, because I feel like there was way more fan interaction on twitter from the B.A.P members. 

Lets see the timeline of kpop/korean artist making headlines in America 

2005

Rain made headlines for being the first ever Korean artist to perform outside of Asia. He was also the first Korean artist to perform in the US, and let alone do a 2 hour concert. It’s one of the biggest Korean concert that was held in NYC. It even featured Pi Diddy, Omarion, and JoJo Levesque. This was the initial foot print that the hallyu wave had outside of Asia 

2006

Rain made headlines for because Time magazine listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, to that Stephen Colbert invited him on his show and they did a parody of Way to Avoid the sun. 

The year that MTV made a special channel on American TV soley for kpop called MTVk

2007

Rain also again gained more american attention for being listed in People’s most beautiful people in the world

2008 

Bi Rain and Joon Park both were in Speed Racer, that was a big achievement for Korean Singers… just simply being able to graze the big screen. Rain more so than Joon got a good amount of attention, he even got some American interviews 

2009

Rain and Lee Joon were in Ninja Assassin. Rain made major headlines for again not only being in an American movie but this time actually staring in the movie and about how much training he did just for the movie. 

This was also the same year Korean actor Lee Byun hyun had his US debut 

GD at the time also got some attention after the alleged plagiarism between Heartbreaker and Right Round when Flo Rida performed with him

Wonder Girls made their American debut

Because of it, I think in some aspects were are benefitting from it, that’s really great. But nothing is forever, there will be some point when K-pop won’t be as popular. But because we’re not K-pop, I hope we stay popular even when K-pop is not.“

BTS did not start the hallyu wave, nor did they pave they way. They were just the first to walk on that new path which then inspired more to do the same and they were the first to win fandom based awards.

No matter what this will always be a topic is where some OG and new kpop fans clash, so yes, BTS is helping the Hallyu wave but they didn’t create the fad. I think the real Hallyu wave starter is Rain

Hello! As so many others are making their lists of the trainees they will be supporting I thought it would be fun to make my own too. Since the competition hasn’t fully started yet, I’m allowing myself a top 15 and will narrow it down throughout the show. However, let’s wish all the boys good luck! 

1. Park Sungwoo

Why I Like Him: Park Sungwoo. Dear Park Sungwoo. It was before I knew any of the boys and had watched their intro videos. The minute I saw the 10 sec fan cam of Sungwoo trying to be taller for the group picture by going on his tippy toes and then getting caught and smiling bashfully, I knew. This was going to be the trainee that I will sell my soul for to have him debut. This thought was only confirmed when I watched his introduction video and saw him cutely pose like other celebrities knowing he looks dumb while doing it. I will go to the ends of the earth to have this cutie in his yellow hoodie debut.

2. Woo Jinyoung

Why I Like Him:  I cannot explain how much I love Woo Jinyoung. Going purely off of visuals, his dusty rose hair and chunky braces make him so adorable. Also, his colorful outfit and red beret in his intro video (Go Watch It!) was to die for. The even better part is that underneath all this cuteness is a skilled rapper. The way he cooly starts with a nasally “No, No” made him a sure bet for my Top 11.He hasn’t been ranking very high in the support systems, so please go out and support our cute little rapping fairy!  

3. Choi Junyoung

Age: 22 years old

Why I Like Him: The minute I saw him I knew I was going to like him. His quirkiness with doing BAP’s One Shot iconic dance move and following it with the mosquito dance. The way he knows he’s being extra as hell but has to be for us to remember him. Also, I’m just so captivated by his face because he looks like a who from Dr.Seuss, with the sleepy eyes and snubbed nose. He didn’t show much of his rapping, but I liked the swagger he had while doing it and would definitely support him so I can see more. And you should too! So go out and vote for Choi Junyoung!  

4. Yoon Yongbin

Age: 23 years old

Why I Like Him: The minute I saw him I knew I was going to like him. I don’t even think I can describe how much I love Yoon Yongbin. The first time seeing him I was shocked at his extremely round, deep-set eyes. They instantly drew me in and made me want to know more about him. He only got more interesting as his introduction video went on with him having a cookie in his pocket and then throwing confetti all around himself. I can’t wait for the show to start so I can go crazy on the voting page for him. So let’s be great national producers and vote for Yoon Yongbin!!!

5. Choi Jaewoo

Why I Like Him: Personally for me, I think Choi Jaewoo is one of the most attractive trainees that I have seen. I thought it was really interesting that he made his own little dance/song to show to us. It was great how he added in the “Choose Me Please” to make the dance a little more flirty/cute. I also loved his outfit, the whole black outfit with a silver chain made it chic looking. I can’t wait for the show to start so I can start voting for him, but until then we should all vote for him on 101maboy. So go out and vote for Choi Jaewoo!

6. Seong Hyunwoo

Company: The Vibe Label Entertainment

Age: 22 years old

Why I Like Him: Hyunwoo packed a lot into his introduction video which probably made him a lot more memorable. He referenced Goblin, showed some of his rap, and my personal favorite. Name dropped himself as many times in so many ways as he could. I immediately started laughing when he jumped in front of the camera to scream his name. And then pulled out a poster that was under his shirt (How long did he have it there?) to show his name again. Hyunwoo showed he can be very charismatic and I can’t wait to see him interacting with the other trainees once the show airs. 

7. Han Minho

Company: It Entertainment

Age: 21 years old

Trainee Period: 1 year 9 months

Rumored Rank: C-Class

Why I Like Him: Honestly, he is me as a trainee. The way he weirdly enters into his introduction video (which you need to watch) is something I would do. The way he motions when his talks and the little clap for himself is just so endearingly cute. It makes me want to support him and see him do well. Now, his rap isn’t the cleanest out of the bunch but I think with some hard work and even harder support he could make it far. 

P.S His red coat and purple hair just make him too cute to not vote for!

8. Im Youngmin

Company: Brand New Music Entertainment

Age: 23 years old

Trainee Period: 1 year 2 months

Rumored Rank: A-Class 

Why I Like Him: I had watched all the introduction videos before they were subbed, so I could only understand bits and pieces.However, the second Youngmin pulled out the llama picture; I knew he was going to be a favorite. His cute, inviting smile really pulled me in and I loved how easy going he seemed to be. I liked how he gave off really chill, cool vibes but you can also see how cute he can be. He showed he can do a variety of things and I think that will help him gain support, so go out and vote for Im Youngmin!  

9. Im Woohyuk

Company: Blessing Entertainment

Age: 24 years old

Trainee Period: 3 years 3 months

Why I Like Him: Everything about Im Woohyuk in his introduction video made me want to vote for him. His casual, boyfriend look with ripped jeans and a comfy sweatshirt. His silver, dangling earrings that make him look sooooo cute! He had a good rap that showed he had the charisma and flow to rap. My favorite thing about him is throughout his intro video, he just had a cute smile and easy feel about him. He’s definitely going to stay in my top 11 and I will do all that I can to make sure Woohyuk makes it and you should too!!!

10. Kim Samuel

Company: Brave Entertainment

Age: 16 years old

Trainee Period: 5 years 3 months

Why I Like Him: Usually I’m not the type of person to go for the fan favorites. I much prefer rooting for the underdog, Kim Sohye, was my number one during the first season. However, after watching Samuel’s introduction video I slowly started melting for his cute charms and melodic voice. He incorporated Whatta Man, Very Very Very, and Pick Me dance moves into his speech (extremely well btw). Everything about his speech on why we should vote for him and his stage presence just showed me how much Samuel has to offer so he had to be on my list. And he should be on yours too, so go vote for him when the time comes! 

11. Kim Donghan

Company: OUI Entertainment

Age: 20 years old

Trainee Period: 1 year 6 months

Why I Like Him: First off, he started his introduction video by rolling in with a tumble and then dancing to Call Me Baby so he definitely caught my eye from the beginning. He proves to be of the more extra trainees with smoothly putting on his sunglasses, then headphones, to end it with some hapkido tricks. Musically he didn’t show anything, but he was charismatic enough that I will watch for him when the show starts. Also, I’m a sucker for boys in small, hoop earrings.   

12. Lee Insoo

Company: Independent Trainee

Age: 22 years old

Trainee Period: 2 years 8 months

Rumored Rank: B-Class

Why I Like Him: I had already known about Lee Insoo before I saw his introduction video. He had been one of my favorites on Boys24, another survival program, unfortunately, he was voted out and had to leave the show. The fact that he is still trying to debut and went on to another survival program is amazing to me. It shows that he really is passionate about his dreams and wanting to debut. On the matter of talent, I already know he can go far with being an amazing rapper (Vasco Approved). Also, he dressed up in a onesie and danced to the Pikachu Theme Song, why wouldn’t you vote for him?

13. Jeong Sihyun

Company: GNI Entertainment

Age: 27 years old

Why I Like Him: I don’t know why I always go for the older guys when it comes to my favorites but Sihyun stole my heart. On first glance, anyone can see that he’s handsome and has a charismatic feel to him. Sihyun really drew me in with him speaking Japanese and then singing a bit of Sing For You in Chinese. His introduction video was cute, but a little dull compared to the other trainees. So I hope he can show more of himself and how talented he is during the show. However, to help him along you should definitely vote for Jeong Sihyun!

14. Son Dongmyung

Why I Like Him: I don’t even know where to start for this cutie pie. First off, he’s cute as hell with his blond hair and docile features. Next, he’s dressed up as Pikachu and has a mini Pikachu sewn onto his shoulder. His pitch to vote for him was just really cute? Also, his voice and whole personality remind so much of Doyoung from NCT, which made me love him even more. Son Dongmyung is an adorable human being that dressed up as Pikachu to get your vote, so please go vote for him.

15. Kim Yongjin

Company: Wings Entertainment

Why I Like Him: Yongjin really caught my eye the moment he started talking in his introduction video. His high pitched voice and cat ears instantly made me remember him throughout the 101 boys. I liked how his personality was a little more cutesy and flowy than most of the trainees. I noticed a lot of the boys have tried to appear manly or sexy but he shows that he’s different than the typical male trainee. Also, the main point is that his rapping was out of this world. The minute he starts, I can tell Yongjin has a great flow, swagger, and is most definitely in the top 5 rappers on Produce 101. He’s not getting many support votes right now (which we should change!) but I think he will get more support once the show starts because of his talent.

In front of you stands a boy. I kid you not a boy.

Just like you, he looked way too young to get married but ya know, what chu gonna do.

He greets you hello and remains silent the whole damn time. 

Not to mention he looked at you once and then looked at everything else but you. 

Damn and you thought your dress was flattering but GUESS NOT FAM.

Y’all get taken back to his palace and you’re thrown around and pampered by yo maids. 

They redo your hair, makeup, and make you put on a hanbok and everything happened so fast, you didn’t even remember to breath.

Then dinner time comes around.

And boy are you excited because food, hell yaaaaaaaaaaa.

You’re gestured to enter the dining room and when ya enter, the large table is full of food and there’s only one person in there.

So now you guys can’t avoid the awkwardness and now ya have to talk.

He hesitates before smiling and then points his hand to the empty chair for you to sit.

Now that you think about it, you don’t even know his name cuz you’ve been referring to him as, “Prince of SK” and “Meanie,” and “Grumpy pants.”

First things first, the food is bomb. Like if royalty means eating delicious food erday, then sign you up for your next life lmao.

Because yo parents and his parents follow traditions, you guys gotta share a room and then y’all are gonna have to live together forever after the marriage.

The dinner was completely silent btw.

Something yo parent’s didn’t warn you about after all these years of princess training is that, you is gonna get lost in your spouse’s palace.

NOBODY GAVE YOU A TOUR AND HOMEBOY JUST GOT UP AND LEFT SO NOW YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO.

All of the maids are busy cleaning up and you didn’t want to bother them so now you’re wandering around and it’s hella confusing cuz there’s a million and one buildings and they all look the same (LIKE HAVE YOU SEEN SCARLET HEART RYEO???)

Since you’ve been wandering around for ages, you decided to give up and hope someone will find you.

In the mean time, you wandered around one of the many super pretty ponds lit by candles.

Keep in mind, this whole place is lit by candles, so let’s just say, the garden path surrounding the pond wasn’t that well lit. 

So while walking around the garden, you stepped on something.

Or should I say someone.

And he didn’t react so well.

Mr. Grumpy pants literally screeched and scared the shit out of you.

Because this is your first time wearing a hanbok, you underestimated how long it was and stepped on your dress while stepping back. 

You ended up falling on yo booty and homeboy just stared at you in shock.

“Why are you here?” The dummy asked while shuffling to his feet.

“WHY ARE YOU LAYING ON THE GROUND????” You shot back while trying to get up but you ended up tripping on your hanbok again.

Idk why it took so long for it to click, but he finally realized he should probably help you up.

Now he’s all flustered and you’re all angry.

He freaks the fuck out and thinks you’re gonna start swinging or something.

He’s repeating, “IM SORRYYY” like a fucking broken record and you can’t help but furrow yo brows cuz this kid weird lmao.

Who knew the soon to be ruler of a nation lies on his garden floor and is afraid of someone like you.

But whateves at least you know he talks.

He’s freaking out even more cuz you look even more angry with your brows and you can’t help but feel really bad.

So you quickly wave it off and say it’s okay because your hanbok cushioned yo fall (they’re so fluffy lmao)

He sighed a huge sigh of relief and then once again, something clicked and he’s all like, “WJY ARE YOU OUT HERE AND NOT SLEEPING SDJFJSKJ”

And you awkwardly tell him yo lost as hell lmao.

So he takes you to the shared room and because it’s traditional South Korea, there ain’t no bathrooms in the room.

WHich means you have to change in the same room as him.

So you grab the dress laid out on the bed and tell him to turn around cuz yo gurl tired and you want to catch dem z’s.

But he stares at you wide eyed and doesn’t understand for a few seconds.

Then once again, he freaks out and literally runs to a corner and sits there while staring at the wall.

You were struggling while putting the hanbok on so obviously it took you ages.

But you finally put it on and you clear your throat to give him to message that he can turn around. 

Which he doesn’t.

So you walk up to him and bend down to see what’s up.

AND HE FUCKING FELL ASLEEP.

So you tap is shoulder to wake him up but he doesn’t budge.

Now you’re thinking, “omg he fucking died.”

So you tap his head and he still dead asleep, so you actually have to slap his head.

He freaks out, you freak out. 

And he gets up but stumbles on his own feet and falls on one knee.

Now he’s fluster and you flustered cuz this is the first time you’ve met a man, not to mention he clumsy af.

So you go on with your night routine and he changes.

Then now y’all go to bed but he’s hugging the edge and so are you, so now there’s 5 feet of empty space between the two of you guys.

So you can’t sleep.

A because this whole experience is mind blowing.

and B because homeboy is sleep talking.

You can’t tell what he’s saying because he’s speaking in two languages,the fuck.

So this whole routine continues for the next week or so and you finally found out his name: Mark Lee.

The wedding ceremony isn’t for another two weeks so it gives you guys time to get use to each other.

Now he actually fully talks (both when he’s awake and asleep) but he’s still clumsy as hell.

Because you’re literally not allowed to leave his side, it gives you a lot of time to notice, he’s actually good looking as hell.

Yo parent’s caught ya a winner, ayeeeeeeeeeeee.

Now it’s getting closer to the wedding and you’ve actually gotten closer to him. 

Instead of going to sleep, he would teach you traditional South Korean games and he’d also tell you folktales and legends which of course kept you up all night.

And in the mornings, he would take you around and make you try a bunch of food.

Now it’s wedding time.

And all you have to say while joining arms with him to unite the two countries is you’re glad fate paired the two of y’all together.
