Nothing For Me
Part 7
Main Masterlist
Part 6|Part 8
You and MJ’s relationship continued to grow as time went on.
As she started her first year of high school, you worked on yourself, wanting to be good for her.
Overtime, you learned how to process and deal with things better. You focused on yourself and your developing relationship with MJ and needless to say, things started to look up.
The ‘present but not really present father’ thing didn’t affect you as much as it did, but it was still there. It was one of the only things you hadn’t fully processed and to be honest, you didn’t think you ever could.
Your father is there, and has been aware of presence for almost a decade. And not once has he given you any type of consolation or love like a father should. You would think after Pepper was getting more involved in his life and forcing him to clean up (most of) his act, he would open his eyes and realize that a whole human being was living with him, waiting for him to realize that they were supposed to be relying on him; not an AI built in the comfort of their room.
But nope. Absolutely nothing changed. If anything, things got worse.
He was away more often, focusing on the Avengers. Or he was with Pepper, the new love of his life.
You tried not to linger on the situation often, knowing it would only lead to pain in your chest. So you just stuffed it in the back of your mind, hoping one day that the pain would just lessen all together.
About two months ago, you and MJ had decided to make things official after going on your first date. At first you talked about how fast the two of you were going, but Michelle simply said ‘we’ll be u-haul lesbians then.’ That was the end of the conversation.
Currently, you and your girlfriend were facetiming. You would’ve made the trek to her house but she was about to study and you both knew that you’d distract her. Plus the two of you were due for some time away from each other considering the fact that you’re at her place almost everyday.
“Okay, so I found this recipe the other day and I’m just now remembering it.”
MJ looks at you confused, “Okay?”
You roll your eyes playfully.
“I wanted to try it with you. After my ban from your place has been lifted.”
“It’s not a ban,” she chuckled.
“Well, it sure as hell feels like one ba-” “Mr. Stark has arrived with a guest,” M.I.A cut you off.
“Who is this guest?”
“Secretary of State, Thaddues Ross,” the AI replied, pulling up pictures of the man.
“Hey M, I’m gonna call you back.”
“Yeah, yeah,” she nods, looking a little concerned. “Take all the time you need. Let me know if everything’s okay.”
The two of you give your goodbyes and you ask M.I.A to pull up the live footage from the conference room.
“Perspective. The world owes the Avengers an un-payable debt. You have fought for us, protected us, risked your lives… but while a great a=many people see you as heroes, there are some who would prefer the word “vigilantes”, is what you first hear when you start watching.
Immediately your eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
“And what word would you use, Mr. Secretary?” Natasha asks.
“How about ‘dangerous’?” he replies. “What would you call a group of US-based, enhanced individuals who routinely ignore sovereign borders and inflict their will wherever they choose and who, frankly, seem unconcerned about what they leave behind?”
The secretary activates a screen behind him which begins to play the previous battles the Avengers and SHIELD have fought in.
“New York.”
He clicks a button, footage of chitauri, shooting guns, and Hulk smashing plays.
“Washington D.C”
A new video appears, showing the insight helicarriers firing at each other with chaos following.
“Sokovia.”
The frame changes, showcasing the terrified citizens that were on the flying piece of land.
“Lagos.”
“That’s enough,” Steve interrupts.
Ross nods in response and begins his speech again.
“For the past four years, you’ve operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That’s an arrangement the governments of the world can no longer tolerate. But I think we have a solution.”
He places a thick document on the table and slides it across to Wanda. As the team slides the book to each other Ross starts talking.
“The Sokovia Accords. Approved by 117 countries… it states that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, they’ll operate under the supervision of a United Nations panel, only when and if that panel deems it necessary.”
“The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place,” the Captain begins. “I feel we’ve done that.”
“Tell me, Captain, do you know where Thor and Banner are right now?” There was a momentary pause as the two men’s eyes met. “If I misplaced a couple of 30 megaton nukes… you can bet there’d be consequences. Compromise. Reassurance. That’s how the world works. Believe me, this is middle ground.”
At this point, you’re walking out of your room after transfering the feed to your tablet and making your way to the elevator.
“So, these are contingencies,” Rhodey states.
“Three days from now,” Secretary Ross begins. “The UN meets in Vienna to ratify the Accords. Talk it over.”
Natasha speaks up, “And if we don’t come to a decision you don’t like?”
“Then you retire.”
The elevator stops and you look up seeing the Secretary walk in with someone behind him. You give him a subtle disgusted look before turning your attention back to the security footage.
As the deathtrap descends, you can feel his eyes lingering on you.
“Can I help you?”
“You’re a little young to be an intern.”
“You’re a little old to be looking at me like that,” you shrug, swiping away from the video on your tablet as you feel him looking over your shoulder.
Ross gives an awkward chuckle and furrows his eyebrows. When you reach the bottom floor, he gets ready to step out and places a hand on your shoulder.
You look at him like he’s lost his mind.
“You seem like a good kid. Be sure to make good choices.”
Raising an eyebrow, you refrain from saying what you want to say. You lift your hand and gently take his off of you.
“Don’t touch me,”
Once he exits, you hear the chatting start back up.
“Secretary Ross has a Congressional Medal of Honor,” Rhodes told Sam. “Which is one more than you have.
“So let’s say we agree to this thing,” Wilson starts. “How long is it gonna be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?”
“117 countries want to sign this. 117, Sam, and you’re just like, ‘No that’s cool. We got it.”
“I have an equation,” Vision announces as you get back on the elevator.
“Oh this will clear it up,” Sam mutters.
“In the eight years since Mr. Stark announced himself as Iron Man, the number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially. And during the same period, the number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commensurate rate.“
“Toaster oven’s got a point there,” you mumble, stepping back on the metal deathtrap.
Steve asks,“Are you saying it’s our fault?”
“I’m saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict… breeds catastrophe. Oversight… oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand.”
“Boom,” Rhodey says.
You see Tony lying on the couch, quite relaxed, contradicting the tense atmosphere.
“Tony,” Nat starts. “You are being uncharacteristically non-hyper-verbal.”
“It’s because he’s already made up his mind,” Steve explained.
“Boy, you know me so well,” Stark starts, getting up and rubbing the back of his head. “Actually I’m nursing an electromagnetic headache,” he pauses to grab a mug of coffee. “That’s what’s going on, Cap. It’s just pain. It’s discomfort. Who’s putting coffee grounds in the disposal? Am I running a bed and breakfast for a biker gang?”
Tony puts his phone in a basket and taps the screen. An image is projected of a smiling young man.
“Oh, that’s Charles Spencer, by the way. He’s a great kid. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA. Had a floor level gig at Intel planned for the fall. But first, he wanted to put a few miles on his soul, before he parked it behind a desk. See the world. Maybe be of service. Charlie didn’t want to go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn’t go to Paris or Amsterdam, which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor. Guess where, Sokovia.”
He pauses for a second as the team soaks in the information.
“He wanted to make a difference, I suppose. I mean, we won’t know because we dropped a building on him while we were kicking ass.
“There’s no decision-making process here. We need to be put in check! Whatever form that takes, I’m game. If we can’t accept limitations, if we’re boundary-less, we’re no better than the bad guys.”
“Tony, someone dies on your watch, you don’t give up,” Steve rebuttals.
“Who said we’re giving up?”
“We are if we’re not taking responsibility for our actions. This document just shifts the blame.”
“I’m sorry. Steve,” Rhodey blurted. “That-that is dangerously arrogant. This is the United Nations we’re talking about. It’s not the World Security Council, it’s not SHIELD, it’s not HYDRA.”
“No, but it’s run by people with agendas, and agendas change.”
“That’s good,” Tony starts. “That’s why I’m here. When I realized what my weapons were capable of in the wrong hands, I shut it down and stopped manufacturing.
“Tony, you chose to do that. If we sign this, we surrender our right to choose. What if this panel sends us somewhere we don’t think we should go? What if there is somewhere we need to go, and they don’t let us? We may not be perfect, but the safest hands are still our own.”
“If we don’t do this now, it’s gonna be done to us later. That’s a fact. That won’t be pretty.”
Wanda finally speaks up, “You’re saying they’ll come for me.”
“We would protect you,” Vision promised.
“Maybe Tony’s right,” the redhead speaks. “If we have one hand on the wheel, we can still steer. If we take it off--”
“Aren’t you the same woman who told the government to kiss her ass a few years ago?” Sam interrupts.
“I’m just… I’m reading the terrain. We have made… some very public mistakes. We need to win their trust back.
“Focus up,” Tony says. “I’m sorry, did I just mishear or did you agree with me?”
“Oh, I want to take it back now.”
“No, no, no. You can’t retract it. Thank you. Unprecedented. Okay, case-closed--I win.”
From what you see, Steve stands to leave abruptly.
You then walk out of the elevator, tablet still in hand with the footage up. The captain walks past you just as you turn the corner and spot the team.
“Someone’s upset,” you hum.
You walk past everyone towards the fridge and grab a water bottle.
“Anyway, that was very childish. And kinda stupid.”
Inquisitive looks are thrown your way and you hold up the tablet awkwardly as you plop down on a chair.
“I was watching you. I kinda do that a lot. It’s not as creepy as it sounds.”
You open the bottle and take a sip.
“What are you doing down here kid--”
“Ahhh,” you interrupt. “Don’t call me a kid. I haven’t been a child for years.”
“Just answer the question,” Tony snaps.
“I like to stay informed. No one tells me anything and while you think that these private meetings only affect you, it doesn’t. It affects me too. You may not remember I’m your child but several people do. And that puts me in danger. So yes, I listen to your conversations to make sure it’s nothing I need to worry about.”
An awkward silence washes over as you gulp down more water.
“Anyway, I was just riding up and down the elevator waiting for you guys to finish. That Ross dude is kinda creepy by the way. But you’re really considering signing that thing?”
“Not you too,” your father mutters.
You let out a laugh and everyone looks at you strangely.
“Is this funny to you?” Rhodey asks.
“Yes,” you stop laughing abruptly. “I find it hilarious that this is the same government that was ready to drop a nuke on the city during the Battle of New York not giving a damn about a single civilian that was still in the area. I find it hilarious that this is the same government that lets thousands of children and women of color go missing and not do a thing about it. It’s funny that this is the same government that let HYDRA, Red Room, AIM; all that shit grow right under their nose. It’s funny because this government is the same one that uses taxpayer money for dumb ass projects and unnecessary military funding instead of using it to fund shit that helps the civilians they claim they care so much about. I mean how can you not find this situation amusing?”
“Look,” Tony attempts.
“I’m not finished,” you challenge, looking him dead in the eyes. “This government don’t give a damn about y’all, especially not the three of us,” you say, gesturing to yourself, Sam, and Rhodey. “We’d be booted out of this country before you could even blink if they ever got the chance and you know that.
“I don’t know why y’all are so adamant on gaining the government’s trust when they don’t give a flying fuck about you or these goddamn civilians. All they care about is power. They don’t care how many civilians come up missing or die in some tragic accident. It doesn’t matter what happens. When they see someone becoming richer or smarter or more powerful than they are, they will do anything to shut that shit down.
“I don’t understand how you can’t see that. And maybe it’s just me. Maybe it’s just me and my experience,” you pause, catching the gaze of every person in the room with hard eyes. You take a deep breath and try to calm down. “Sign it if you want to. Think about how many lives you’ll lose then.”
You stand from your spot and walk into the open elevator, ready to get to the comfort of your bed.
-
It had been two days since the initial meeting and you were currently sitting on Michelle’s bed watching her read.
“You’re really pretty,” you muttered out of the blue.
You saw your girlfriend’s cheeks develop a subtle red tint as she mumbled back a ‘thank you, and continued reading. You groan and gently pull the book out of her hands.
“Hey,” she quietly protests.
“Please,” you pout, holding your arms out as an invitation.
MJ fondly rolls her eyes before lowering herself onto you. You hummed contently and squeezed her before planting a kiss on her cheek.
She surprised you by turning her head and giving you a lingering kiss. That one kiss soon turned into something more.
Michelle gently pushed you onto your back and straddled your hips. Bending down she kissed you once again, her lips gliding with yours.
This continued for a few minutes, taking small breaks in between to breathe. You don’t think you could ever get enough of her and hoped that she was feeling similarly.
You kissed until your jaws hurt. The euphoric feeling still lingered as MJ rested her forehead against yours, trying to catch her breath.
“We should do that again sometime,” you mumbled.
Your girlfriend nodded in response, giving one more chaste kiss to your lips before dropping to your side.
“Tomorrow,” she said after glancing at the clock that read 10:47.
“Guess I’m spending the night then.”
“I have no problem with that.”
-
The next day, you were awoken by beeping from your phone. Once you were fully aware of your surroundings you picked up the device and read the notifications that M.I.A sent through. Scanning through them, you sat up with urgency and played the video.
“A bomb hidden in a news van ripped through the UN building in Vienna. More than 70 people have been injured. At least 12 are dead, including Wakanda’s King T’Chaka. Officials have released a video of a suspect who they have identified as James Buchanan Bares, the Winter Soldier. The infamous HYDRA agent, linked to numerous acts of terrorism and political assassinations.”
Carefully removing Michelle’s arm from around your waist, you stand up and move to the corner of the room. You press the contact and hold the phone up to your ear.
“Nat what the fuck is going on?”
You hear the woman sigh on the other side of the phone. “Look, just… stay wherever you are.”
“Yeah, okay, whatever. I want answers, Nat.”
“(Y/n),” she says firmly. “Calm down and go back to whatever you were doing. Right now, this does not concern you and I would like it to stay that way. Do you understand me?”
There was some silence, before you let out a forced chuckle.
“Okay, whatever. Bye.”
“(Y/n) c’mo--”
You disconnected the call and gently tossed the phone onto MJ’s desk. “You sound stressed.”
Turning around to face the bed, you see Michelle sat up and leaning against the headboard. You nod slowly and crawl your way up towards her.
“I am.”
You feel her hand take hold of your clenched ones and she rubs them, causing you to relax slightly.
“There was a um, bombing at the--the um… signing thing. And no one wants to tell me what’s going on, so,” you end the sentence, shrugging.
MJ’s head drops onto your shoulder and you let her cuddle close.
“They told me to stay where I was. So hopefully we can get something good out of that.”
There was no response and you thought she had fallen back asleep, but you were proven wrong when your girlfriend started getting up.
“C’mon,” she instructed, holding her hand out when she saw the look of confusion on your face.
Taking her hand, the two of you made your way to the kitchen.
She turned around and grabbed your shoulders.
“We are going to make some breakfast… or lunch whatever. And then we are going to binge watch until we can binge watch no longer. Alright?”
You nod your head, chuckling and then got to work.
-
It had been days since you last heard from anyone. No updates from Natasha. M.I.A even told you there hasn’t even been a great deal of movement in the compound. Today you decided you would head back.
When you arrived it was quiet. As you walked down the halls you heard distant chatter and followed it.
Turning the corner, you were surprised at what you saw.
“What the hell happened?”
The two men turned to look your way, but you were given no answers.
Tony had bruises on his face and he looked more tense than usual. Rhodey had some sort of tech on his legs.
“You fought them. You fought them all, didn’t you?”
Both men looked away and avoided your gaze.
“You didn’t even listen to what I said. This is what the government does. I tried to tell you, but you didn’t even fucking listen,” you ranted, your voice slightly raising.
“Us breaking apart wasn’t the government. Most of this is on some guy th--”
“Well the government allowed it to happen so I’d say it is their fault!”
You turned to your father with pleading eyes.
“Where are they, Tony?”
“Kid, they’re criminals now, I don’t--”
“Stop calling me that! I’m--I’m not some kid. I’m not your kid,” you let out a frustrated breath. “You--you couldn’t talk it out? Like mature adults? You just had to go assert your dominance somewhere--in what? An--an airport? Some vacant lot? You just had to fight. Do you not know how to communicate?”
You looked at the two men, shook your head, and brushed past them.
Just when things were alright.
-
“(Y/n)?”
“What M.I.A?”
You were currently laying in your bed trying to control the tears that were begging to fall from your eyes due to the amount of overwhelming shit you had been hit with. You talked with MJ for a little while and while it helped a bit, you honestly were still feeling like… well shit.
“There’s a package for you.”
Furrowing your eyebrows, you head down to where the mail is usually placed, get the package with your name on it, and head back to your room.
Grabbing a pair of scissors, you cut the tape and open the box. Inside was a letter and a phone.
Hey sweetheart.
It was Natasha’s handwriting.
I’m sorry. I really am. We all are. I wish things wouldn’t have ended this way, but they did and we can’t really do anything about it now.
I listened to what you said. I listened and I tried my best to understand. I don’t think I ever wanted to sign the accords in the first place. The only reason I did so was so that we could stay together. So that I could stay with you. This team is the only family I’ve had in a long time. The fact that that stack of papers could end that scared me.
I just kept trying to convince myself that signing the Accords was the right thing to do; anything to keep this team together. Anything to keep everything from falling apart.
But the more I thought about it, I realized. You were right. Everything you said. This government doesn’t care. And if the government doesn’t care like they’re supposed to then we need to. People need the government, but they don’t have it. They do have us though. And they always will.
I love you. I didn’t say it enough and I don’t know when or if I’ll ever get to tell you that again. You are so precious to me and I’m sorry I couldn’t stay. If you ever need anything, you can always give me a call.
You wiped your eyes and gently picked up the phone. You held it in your hands for a moment before setting it down. You folded the letter back up neatly and placed both items in the top drawer of your nightstand.
You laid back down on your bed with less tears on your face.

pissed off - poe dameron
word count: 1k
warnings: none! just a lot of fluff!
a/n: i got a request for a poe dameron x solo! reader so here we areeee :))
summary: as the daughter of han solo and general organa, you receive a lot of attention. one day at the base, you run into finn, a newbie to the resistance. the two of you hit if off, and your best friend, poe dameron, becomes extremely jealous.
it was late at night, the base silent as many of the soldiers were asleep in their quarters. on the other hand, you were wide awake, sneaking around in the area where all the ships, cruisers, and speeders were located. you knew your mother would be furious if she found out what you were doing, but you had your father’s curious spirit.
you snuck around, in attempts to find the millennium falcon. for some reason, you were especially drawn to that ship. your mother always told you that it was due to the fact that it was your father’s beloved ship.
your heart ached at the thought of your father. just a month ago, he was murdered. the individual behind the murder made your heart ache even more. the man responsible was your own brother, ben. you wanted nothing more to reach out to him, in attempts to bring him back home. however, whenever you tried to find him, something always went wrong.
in the darkness, your shoulder clipped a speeder. you covered your mouth in attempt to hide the pained screech, but it came out muffled. tears brimmed your eyes, and you ducked down once you realized that someone was on patrol.
“hey!” a voice yelled out, “who’s there?”
fuck. fuck. fuck. you repeated inside you head, hoping that the person wouldn’t find you.
“i can see your shadow,” the voice stated, his tone assertive, “come out, whoever you are.”
you sighed, realizing you had no choice but to show yourself. you stood, coming face to face with the stranger in front of you.
“(y/n) solo?” the man raised a brow, “what are you doing out here at this time of night?”
“i’m a fully grown adult,” you snorted, eyeing the man in front of you.
the man was medium height, and had a good build to him. you figured he was ex-soldier, just by the way he carried himself. he had beautiful brown skin, matched with curious brown eyes. he was handsome for sure, but young. a little too young for you, even though you were only twenty-four.
“but you’re the daughter of the general,” the man retorted, “you’re very important to the resistance. you shouldn’t be wandering around at night.”
you giggled, “i know how to manage myself, thank you. what’s your name?”
“finn,” the man responded, glancing at the ground, “i don’t have a last name.”
“where are you from?” you raised a brow.
you had been tied to the resistance as long as you could remember. you had seen quite a few faces in your day, but since you helped on the base, you knew almost everybody. this man was unfamiliar to you.
“i don’t remember,” finn replied, his face crestfallen, “i used to be a soldier for the first order.”
this bit of information was surprising to you, “you quit or something?”
“i quit a month or so ago,” finn answered, “i couldn’t handle it anymore. i acted on an instinct.”
“it must have been the force,” you remarked.
“what are you doing out here?” finn raised a brow, his tone curious.
“ummm,” you bit your lip, “routine patrol.”
“you’re not a good liar,” he remarked, chuckling, “well since you’re out here, i could use the company.”
“you want my company?” you were shocked by his statement. usually, you weren’t used to offers like this.
“i mean,” finn rubbed the back of his neck, “who wouldn’t such a beautiful woman’s company?”
“i think she’s heading back to her quarters, actually,” a new voice came from the shadows.
you recognized your best friend’s voice immediately. poe dameron emerged, a solemn look on his features. his jaw was clenched, and he appeared tense. you didn’t understand why. poe worked with finn on several important missions. he even let finn keep his favorite jacket.
suddenly, you made the connection. this was the finn poe talked about all the time. finn, the infamous first order soldier who went rogue. poe admired the kid immensely for his sacrifices and his loyalty to the resistance.
“oh,” finn sucked in a breath, “well, it was nice to finally meet you, (y/n) solo.”
“nice to meet you as well, finn,” you flashed him a wide smile as poe lead you away, his arm around your shoulders.
the two of you strolled away, waves of anger radiating off poe. you wondered what was wrong, and why he acted to tough in front of finn, although they were good friends. part of you wondered if you did something wrong.
“what else did he say to you?” poe inquired, leading you in the direction of the base.
“nothing?” your tone was sharp, full of sass, “you didn’t need to butt in like that, he was just being a kid.”
“yeah,” poe snorted, “an idiotic one.”
rolling your eyes, you stopped dead in your tracks, “poe, stop acting like a jealous boyfriend.”
“i can’t help it,” his voice was quiet, “i hate it when other men, creatures, and whatever else hit on you because you’re the daughter of a solo and princess. those people just want you because of your title. they don’t see the way your lips curve into that beautiful smile, or how you scrunch your nose when you laugh. they don’t realize how easy it is to fall in love with your vibrant personality.”
“poe dameron,” you swallowed, “are you in love with me?”
poe glanced up at you, his eyes full of nothing but love, “isn’t it obvious?”
your breath hitched in your throat, your cheeks burning bright red. ever since you met poe, you fell in love with him at first sight. it was the only reason you didn’t want to date anyone else. poe stole your heart from the moment you met him.
sure, he had a cocky personality. but you knew it was because he knew he was a good pilot. he was probably the best pilot the resistance had. but people didn’t see the other side of him. the way his eyes softened whenever you walked into the room. the way he grinned whenever he made you laugh. the way he made sure you were his first priority.
for the past few months, other soldiers on base teased you relentlessly about your relationship with him, saying that you guys made a good couple. you always just brushed it off, as the two of you were too close. besides, poe was several years older than you. your mother wouldn’t be thrilled, but you figured she would warm up to the idea of you two together. besides, you were a full grown adult. you had the capabilities to make your own decisions.
and you wanted nothing more to be with poe. that’s all you longed for, to be his.
“so,” poe sucked in a breath, “you haven’t said anything, so i assume you just-“
“i am completely and utterly in love with you, poe dameron,” the words tumbled of your mouth, “i have been since the moment i saw you.”
a large smile enveloped poe’s face. you hadn’t seen the man smile that big since the last victory of the resistance. he picked you up, hugging you tightly for a few seconds. he set you down, and you felt his lips against yours, kissing you passionately. his tongue raked your bottom lip, begging for entrance. you allowed it, letting his tongue explore your mouth.
you felt the world around you slow as poe kissed you, his hands cupping your cheeks. as the kisses got more intense, his hands made their way to their back of your neck, desperately trying to pull you in closer to him. you wrapped your arms around his neck, savoring every moment of the kiss.
poe pulled away, “you have no idea how long i have been waiting to do that.”
“can i have another?” you pleaded.
“of course babygirl,” he grinned, “you can have all the kisses you want from me.”
he kissed you again, this time more forcefully than the last. you closed your eyes, loving the way his lips felt against yours.
“can i stay with you, tonight?” you looked into his eyes, your lip slightly swollen.
“i don’t have any issue with that,” poe smirked, taking your hand. he intertwined your fingers together.
the two of you resumed your walk back to the quarters. in the moonlight, you looked radiant. poe smiled to himself, admiring your features. as long as he had you by his side, he knew he could do anything. loving you came easy to him, and he wanted you to know that he would love you for the rest of your lifetime.
for once in his life, the pilot felt like he was truly winning.

Amnesia: LATER ~Clover World~ Route Translations (New World: Kent Prologue)
Translator’s note : MC’s name shall remain as my normal (水嶋ラン) Spoiler FREE : Translations under cut !
Orion: Right. So Kent's...There he is!
Orion: He's standing over there with Ikki.
Kent: ...Hm? What is it? Do you require something?
Ikki: Ken, that's not how you should be asking someone if they need something, is it?
Ikki: It's going to be her free time soon, so don't you think she approached you only because she wishes to speak to you?
Kent: Is that so? That's a rather commendable act. Well, I suppose it works out for me too.
Kent: I was just about to call you over as well, actually. Kent: But I was rather stumped since I didn't know how I should approach you.
Kent: I never had the chance to ask a girl out for something as rude as a midnight drive...
Orion: Huh? A drive?
Ikki: Ken? You're getting the order all wrong.
Ikki: Say, Ran? How about the 3 of us sneak out of here and go for a ride together?
Ikki: There don't seem to be any fireflies here. And from what he says, we should be able to find some if we head down to Shinano.
Orion: ...Shinano?
Orion: The same one on the news? Isn't that really far away?
Kent: Taking the news from the last couple of days into account along with the ecology of fireflies, there is a high chance that we'll find them.
Kent: And it'll also only be about 2 and a half hours' worth of travel time if we take the highway.
Kent: Therefore, heading to Shinano from our current location is not an unrealistic goal. It is in fact, rather achievable.
Kent: But that's just how long it takes for a one-way trip. I doubt we'll be able to return in the same day if we leave now.
Kent: I'm concerned if we should be spending the day with a girl like you travelling together with us.
Ikki: But I've already told you earlier. She lives alone and tomorrow's also her day off from work. Besides, it's also summer break for universities.
Ikki: I'm sure it's normal for a university student to spend the night out.
Kent: She's still a minor. So it's not really recommendable for her to be wandering around that late into the night.
Ikki: You just need an adult to supervise the trip then, yes?
Ikki: You and I are both splendid adults, so I'm sure we can pull off being her guardians.
Kent: I see... No, wait. Aren't guardians only a role that close relatives can take up!?
Kent: And it's a far bigger problem if a girl, who's a minor, is being led around by the nose by two fully grown adult men!
Ikki: Ah... what a spoilsport, really. And you were all too pleased to invite her for a drive as well.
Kent: ...! I'm only interested in observing the anomalies that the fireflies are presenting. This has absolutely nothing to do with her!
Kent: The objective of this entire thing is that we reach Shinano in the end. The drive in between has no meaning whatsoever.
Kent: I won't say that the drive will be utterly lacking in the element of fun, but that's a matter only between Ikkyu and me.
Kent: I still don't think it's a good idea to be taking a woman along this late in the night; with a car that can also act as a secret room.
Ikki: But there are still three of us in there, even if it might be a secret room of sorts. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.
Ikki: You'll definitely stop me if I ever made a move towards her, yes?
Kent: Obviously.
Ikki: On the flip side that you decide to make a move on her... Well, I'll probably stop you too.
Kent: I'm personally not prone to such violent acts but, what's with that "probably"? You ought to stop me with all your might.
Ikki: But it'll be rather uncouth of me to stop you if she does get into it, won't you say?
Kent: T-That's...
Ikki: You can't deny the possibility of it, can you? Because men and women are impossibly hard to understand at times.
Kent: ...That will never happen regardless of how far our relationship progresses tonight! Ikki: That's why you don't need to overthink it. You won't lay a hand on her and you'll also stop me if I try to do the same.
Ikki: See? Problem solved.
Kent: You impossibly smooth bastard. But still-
Kent: ......
Kent: Enough about that. Let's leave the final decision up to you, Ran.
Kent: I offer you a drive with me and Ikki. Our goal is to hunt for fireflies in Shinano. You'll probably end up back home tomorrow.
Kent: We're a group of two men standing in front of you but you have my word that we won't do anything to you. It's up to you to believe me or not.
Kent: What will you do?
Orion: He asked for your opinion, but...
Orion: I think it's better for you to go with them. What about you?
Orion: I mean, they'll continue to be absolutely fixated on those fireflies if you stay here; so I'm sure there's some reason for you to join them.
Orion: There might be a chance that our situation will be exposed if we were forced into a 1-on-1 conversation, so that's a terrifying thought...
Orion: And I'm fairly certain the conversation will still go on since there are 2 people with us.
Orion: Yeah, I think we should take them up on their offer so that you can grasp some clues regarding your memories, Ran.
Orion: Like the reason why everyone's inviting you to see those fireflies out there. I'll accept the invitation with them. Please!
Kent: I see, so we've come to an agreement. Very well then, let's head to my house after we've stopped by yours.
Kent: We'll all catch a cold if we head there dressed in yukatas since the temperatures are lower there. We ought to grab coats or a change of clothes.
Kent: There's no way I can drive while wearing getas either, so I'll have to change them out for normal shoes back in the car.
Ikki: Stop. Hold up.
Kent: What's the matter, Ikkyu?
Ikki: Don't you think the way she responded earlier was a little strange?
Ikki: She seems way too enthusiastic about the drive, so much that her answer sounded a bit rushed.
Kent: Still, I'm a little concerned with how she used polite speech. We're not associated with her in that manner.
Ikki: Oh? What kind of relationship then?
Kent: It is hard to define in a single word, but we're in one that allows us to debate matters.
Ikki: I don't really catch the gist of it, but do you two just like arguing with each other?
Kent: Let's just say we like debating with each other. She has always tried to argue against my point, so it's obvious that I have to stick up for it.
Kent: It's calmer between us in the cafe since we both work as staff members there, but our relationship has always fundamentally been that way.
Ikki: ...Right, I see. Hmm... I don't actually keep an eye out on the cafe floor, so I wouldn't know.
Ikki: Well, I suppose you're unique enough, considering how you're able to keep up with his 'debates'.
Kent: ......!
Ikki: I mean, you know. I'd love to see the two of you... Hey, Ken? Why are you stiffening up?
Kent: Why did you speak in such a manner? I never thought that I'd ever hear you speak so politely outside the cafe itself.
Kent: Are you trying to create a psychological gap to throw me off in hopes that I'd make a miscalculation in my logical explanations?
Kent: If so, then you're only partially successful. You're clearly still an amateur since that tactic only works when it is utilized in the middle of a debate.
Ikki: Huh? What's with that? No matter how you go about it... Aren't you just overthinking things? Reading too deeply into it?
Kent: Ikkyu. You're not aware of my usual debates with her. That's why you're capable of saying such generalized and daft things.
Ikki: ...Yeah, you guys just love arguing.
Kent: I'd prefer it if you call us friends of the debating art.
Kent: It's calmer between us in the cafe since we both work as staff members there, but our relationship has always fundamentally been that way.
Ikki: Arguing buddies, debating buddies, or not; we're still going together, right? Ikki: And it'll also be rather difficult making a round trip in one sitting, so how about we make a booking in the lodge over at Shinano?
Ikki: We still need a base of operations, regardless of whether we're sleeping there or not, right? We can't keep a girl in the car forever either.
Kent: I see, very well. I suppose a base is thus required. Could I leave you to make the necessary arrangements, Ikkyu?
Ikki: Of course, I'll get it settled before you get the car down here. I'll try to find an available lodge via phone.
Kent: Let's make haste then. We should be able to reach Shinano by 10 PM if we head out now.
────♡♤♢♧────
Ikki: ...In other words, I came right from Ken's home, having changed into a yukata there. I wasn't quite sure how to put it on.
Ikki: Most of it wasn't a problem until we reached the obi... He's really good with obis, belts, buckles and the sort so I got him to help me out.
Ikki: Toma and Shin chose your yukata, I bet. It's frustrating to admit it, but I must say that they have some pretty good taste.
Ikki: It really suits you. I'm not in the habit of saying this too often, but you're more beautiful compared to the other girls.
Ikki: Ken was sneaking glances at you all the time while we were caught up in conversation. I'd say he's pretty conscious of you being there.
Ikki: Say, is there really nothing between you and Ken...?
Ikki: Being debate buddies isn't just an excuse you two cooked up?
Orion: Eh? H-How should we answer that? Ran... You don't know either, do you?
Ikki: I mean, I for one am surprised that there's a girl out there that he frequently talks to.
Ikki: Most of the girls that approach him tend to run away after they've lost a debate with him.
Ikki: But nevertheless, you stayed on and continued striking up conversations with him, right? ...Why?
Ikki: Why do you continue to argue with him? A rebellious streak? Curiosity? Or...?
Orion: W-We wouldn't know the answer to that question even if you asked!
Orion: You didn't even know that the two of you were debating buddies until today!
Kent: Ikkyu.
Kent: What do you intend to do by interrogating her?
Ikki: My, I see that you've returned.
Kent: She's not someone who'd break under your interrogations. Still,
Kent: it's not exactly polite to be inquiring after me, especially when I'm not around.
Ikki: But it's not like I'd get a proper answer out of you even if I ask nicely with a cherry on top. Even if we're conversational buddies.
Ikki: You're clearly giving me a look that says that's not all there is to it.
Kent: Cease your unjustified suspicions. And stop bothering her unnecessarily.
Ikki: Unjustified suspicions...?
Kent: Indeed. Anyway, I've brought the car around so let's get going. You all just have to get on board so we can finally leave.
Ikki: Humph... Well, forget it. Well then, Ran. How about you come sit next to me in the back seats?
Kent: Wait, Ikkyu. Aren't you taking the passenger seat?
Ikki: Hm? Surely you no longer need a navigator sitting next to you since we've already been to Shinano once?
Ikki: Plus, isn't it a little sad for a girl to be stuck sitting in the back all alone?
Ikki: Oh. Would you be happier if #Name[0] sat in the passenger seat instead?
Kent: ...Regardless of whether I'm happy about it or not, isn't there another reason why she should be in the passenger seat and not behind with you?
Ikki: Heh? Another reason?
Kent: What if she gets car-sickness?
Ikki: ...Oh no, now I have it coming.
Kent: It's still quite a distance we're travelling, even if we're on a relatively stable highway.
Kent: And I've heard that it's much easier to get car-sick when one's sitting in the back seats compared to the front seats.
Kent: You can go sit in the passenger seat if you're prone to car-sickness, but otherwise you're fine to go sit in the back.
Kent: What will you do?
⊳Choice: Hop into the passenger seat with Kent.
Kent: ......
Kent: I see, so you're prone to car-sickness. Come right up to the front then. I'll take caution to make it a smooth drive.
Kent: Come on then, the car's parked right opposite us.
Ikki: So... I'll tell you this because he doesn't seem to realize it himself.
Ikki: That's just his way of telling you that he's elated to have you sitting with him up front.
Orion: What? Really!? I really didn't think of it that way...
Ikki: He was silent for a while, right? That's his sign of internally blissing out.
Ikki: It's hard to gauge his emotions when it comes to his ever-lying poker-face. So, even though he looks unfriendly on the outside, he's really sensitive inside.
Ikki: Please treat him gently.
Orion: Well...
Orion: I can't really think of it as anything other than him poking fun at Kent with how he worded it, though.
Ikki: I think he'll be rather confused and shaken up if you do treat him as such. Ikki: It's amusing to just imagine.
Orion: ...He was poking fun at him, alright.
Kent: ......
⊳Choice: Get into the back seat with Ikki.
Ikki: Huh? You're okay with sitting together with me?
Kent: I suppose that's because she's not prone to car-sickness. It's natural to want a conversational partner when embarking on a long journey.
Kent: It's also quite the arduous task to converse between the front and back seats.
Kent: I'll leave her to you then, Ikkyu. I'll go bring the car around.
Ikki: Hmm... I apologize. I might have overstepped my boundaries.
Ikki: You were just trying to be considerate when you decided to get in the back with me, right? You should have just gone up front.
Ikki: It's unusual for there to even be a girl with whom he's capable of holding discussions with. So I suppose I couldn't help but poke fun at him...
Ikki: And he seems to be sulking a little now. I suppose I've gone and done something bad.
Orion: Wait, that was him SULKING!? He's... Yeah, he's rather hard to get a read on...
Ikki: He'd be even more sulky if you offer to sit in the passenger seat now, so how about you go sit with him up front when we return?
Ikki: No hesitations this time.
⊳Choice: Could I lay down in the back?
Kent: I see, that's fine by me. The journey there will take 2 and a half hours so you should be able to get ample rest.
Kent: Let's get going then. I'll bring the car around.

Zenith: Chapter 68-71
Chapter 68
Andi remembers how Kalee gave her a tour of her home and bragged about how she’d be ruling the place someday. Andi asks why her and not her brother.
Oh, Androma. Kalee had laughed then, tossing her head back in that glorious, carefree way that made everyone around her want to come closer. You and I both know that a woman can rule better than any man ever could. And I’ll look twice as good doing it, too.
Shinsay, voices muffled as their heads are stuck up each other’s asses: This is definitely, 100%, one whole, bona fide, authentic, organic, home-grown feminism that we just put in our book.
Also ... take a look at that weak-ass description that’s supposed to show us how good and cool Kalee is. When she laughs (in a way that tbh have you ever laughed? be real with me now), people want to ... come closer?
Wow! That’s like saying ... when I scratch my face, people want to call their mom. When I brush my hair, people may spontaneously feel the need to take a slightly deeper breath.
Talk about low standards. Hey fellas, you ever see someone laugh and just kinda sorta want to approach them but not really? Yeah, that’s the stuff.
Andi thinks about how Kalee would’ve been a better ruler than her dad, who doesn’t even bother coming down to meet his tortured son because that’s how incompetent and evil and heartless he is. I mean, Andi doesn’t know that Valen is the result of rape, but still. Idk if I’m on board with how the book demonizes the hell out of the General but tried to make whatsherface sympathetic. And by “I don’t know if I am” I mean “I’m definitely not what the fuck is wrong with these people.”
Dex tries to make some conversation and Andi says that nobody befriended Kalee, that only super duper special people were CHOSEN by her to become her friends.
I’m ... not sure how this is supposed to be better. In fact, I’d say it’s worse?
“Kalee chose the people she wished to let into her life. I was honored that she allowed me to be assigned to her.”
“Honored?” Dex asked, raising a bruised brow. “Or damned?”
“I’ll let you know after we talk to the general,” Andi said.
I’m gonna fiking piss. “I’ll tell you whether this important life event was honor or damnation, but like, later, after we have this appointment, ok?” Why is this so funny. Have I fully lost my marbles?
Andi foreshadows some escape tunnels that are hidden all around the estate so Dex has a logical way to save them at the end of the book. I’m sure there is a more elegant way of setting that up, but I can’t be bothered to find one, so let’s call it acceptable and move on.
They arrive at their destination and Andi notices that Alfie seems bummed out. She muses that he’s “capable of far more complex thinking than she’d originally guessed,” which, DOY, but ok, and then thinks about how he’s saved her crew and remembered Gilly’s Marketable Space Pet, which implies he has some “understanding of feelings and attachments.”
That hamster wheel do be spinnin’.
The “head Spectre” comes out to meet them and ...
It took everything in her to speak as the truth struck her.
“Dad?”
DUN DUN DUUUN, it’s Andi’s dad! Also, “the truth struck her?” What truth? That it’s your dad? Was that in doubt? Did you really need a moment to connect the dots, to realize this is your dad? Was there a moment where you saw this man, who is your dad, and thought that this wasn’t your dad, only for the truth to strike and OH SHIT THAT’S MY DAD!! WOW HOLD YOUR HORSES EVERYONE I NEED TIME TO PROCESS THAT THIS IS INDEED MY DAD.
Tbh if you strapped knives to a roomba it’d have more charisma and presence as the protagonist than Andi. And let’s be real, more intelligence.
Yet another chapter ends on a pointless cliffhanger only for the scene to continue exactly where it left off!
You’re just full of surprises, Shinsay.
Chapter 69 (nice)
Andi recaps everything that she’s gone through after the Kalee crash up to the fight with the big alien dude who got deus ex machina-d by Alfie and how she nearly kissed Dex, which gets written as extra special, just so she can make this point:
But this...her father, as General Cortas’s head Spectre?
This might actually kill her.
And aside from how generically melodramatic it is, I can’t help but recall this, from chapter 7:
The man in front of her was a victim of her foolishness. Beside her was the man who’d rejected her love.
The two of them, together? It was nearly enough to shatter Andi.
Andi has the same reaction as I do when in a room with multiple men. Except in her case I think it’s supposed to be deep and personal.
Anyway, self-plagiarism aside, Andi thinks about how her dad was always there for her but then one day wasn’t when he didn’t support her on her trial and how conflicted she feels about him, both wanting to demand justice but also wanting comfort. This is actually quite touching and feels very grounded and realistic.
General Cortas rubs it in that Andi’s dad, “Comander Racella”, has been very loyal and hardworking since he was promoted after Andi’s trial. Andi hopes that her father actually hates the general and was forced to work for him as some sort of punishment for what happened with their daughters.
The general says the situation on Adhira has been taken care of, and when Andi asks whether Xen Ptera attacked because of Valen and her crew’s presence on Adhira, the general says that’s classified. For reasons? Idk. Seems pretty obvious to me, or maybe he just doesn’t know?
Dex tries to yap but Cortas flexes his big dick and reminds Dex that he’s a Guardian now, and Dex is too much of a baby to risk his regained status so he shuts up. This is all spelled out for us by Andi’s inner monologue, because we’re idiots.
The general claims the Xen Pteran forces have been wiped out, saying how it’s probably all they had since there’s few able-bodied and willing people to recruit for war after their planet got fucked, and when Andi presses him for why the attack happened now and on Adhira, he says:
“War never really ends, Androma. The desire for revenge is often too strong to forget.”
“War never ends ... But me and my crew totes ended that war just now. They don’t have any more soldiers so this war is over.” Makes sense, sir.
Cortas says that queen Alara is safe and will be at the Peace Summit, which Andi immediately tells him to cancel because it would be the perfect opportunity for another attack. Cortas replies by saying that Arcardius is impenetrable and that the day the Olen System successfully invades will be the day “stars fall from the sky” which is a very poetic and not at all natural way to say something like this, so it’s there for ... idk dramatic irony? He also reminds her that the Summit is important because it celebrates the peace after the war and the unity between the systems and I’m here like ... for a guy who says war never ends, you sure seem happy to celebrate a war ending and don’t believe one is going on right now. But I guess these characters just exist to spout meaningless yet deep-sounding nonsense at each other.
Dex reminds the general that they’ve done their end of the deal, at which point the general conveniently decides to prolong it out of nowhere and essentially forces Andi and Dex to be Valen’s bodyguards at the Peace Summit by holding Andi’s crew and ship and Dex’s money and status hostage. Thanks for ensuring the main characters are there for the climax, sir! Appreciated!
Dex and Andi leave in a huff.
Chapter 70
We’re in Lira’s POV as she reminisces about her childhood with Lon while he’s recovering from his near-death-experience.
So she sat by [Lon’s] side for endless hours, until the warm clutches of sleep stole her away.
She dreams about flying on an “Adhiran darowak” but then DUN DUN DUUUN Adhira below turns into Xen Ptera and it’s horrible!
“No,” Lira gasped. Her heart began to crack. Fissures spread through it, reaching cold fingers through every valve until Lira felt darkness stealing her away.
So the editor just left that in, huh? Just let Shinsay use the exact same wording in less than 200 words? Must’ve been stolen away by the editing fairy for editing crimes while reading this.
Lira is woken up by Alara, who got here so fucking fast she must be part-Sonic on her father’s side. You’d think a planetary leader would have more to do after a sudden and deadly attack on her home planet, but I guess Adhirans are so chill they’ll just let their leader fuck off to take care of her angsty teenage niece instead.
Lira says that she’ll do anything to make up for bringing Valen to Adhira, to which Alara says that the only thing Lira will do is “follow her heart,” which is sweet of her to say but also really convenient and makes this whole decision easier for her.
I mean, it’s nice that Alara is so supportive, but 1) narratively, it removes the conflict that was introduced only a few chapters ago 2) it makes Alara seem like she’s only there to be the supportive cool aunt and the Good Queen, without any expectations or wants of her own. Like, wasn’t the pressure from Alara something that gave Lira actual conflict? Idk. Seems too easy, is what I’m saying.
Lira didn’t let go of her aunt until the tears dried up. Until they sat down on either side of Lon’s bedside, held his hands and spoke of happier times. The beauty of a family that could come together, broken, and still find a way to become something whole.
You’re one step away from “Ohana means family” over here, Shinsay. Stop spelling shit out. WE. GET. IT. Also, whose narration is this? We’ve mostly stuck to third person limited, so ... is Lira thinking this? Is she thinking this shit while it’s happening? About her own family and situation? What the fuck?
Shinsay couldn’t keep their suspiciously sticky fingers out of their own writing and let it breathe so it comes out looking like God’s mistake.
Anyway, Lon wakes up and Alara tells him what went down on Adhira.
Chapter 71
We’re back with Andi, who just got out of a bath and is bitterly admiring her “private quarters” when she’s interrupted by DUN DUN her dad! He’s been waiting for her!
It’s all very tense. Before they can really start talking, though, we get a flashback. No, really. This whole tense reunion between father and daughter is interrupted by a lengthy flashback brought on by Andi watching her dad and Remembering.
Because Shinsay.
It’s a flashback to Andi in a cell, the day before she was supposed to be executed. Her dad tells her that her mother is "not well” and we find out his name is Oren. As they’re saying their tearful goodbyes, Oren slips Andi a key and tells her “Bay Seven. Tomorrow at dawn.”
The flashback ends with Andi’s cell standing empty the next morning.
Very cool and all that.
Back in the now, Andi rightfully chews her dad out for being a cowardly little bitch and throwing his teenage daughter under the bus for the sake of status. Something he freely admits to doing. He says he and her mother had to struggle to rebuild their reputation after she ruined it, and that he believes his daughter died with Kalee and that whoever he saved in the cell was already the Bloody Baroness even if she didn’t know it yet. Then he fucks off.
It’s all extremely silly. It would’ve been heartbreaking in any better book, but instead, it just feels like it’s tacked on for the sake of adding even more angst to Androma’s character. In fact, she’s not even upset at this. Instead she just carves some more tallies into her swords, dances some more with the dead, and then sneaks out.
No really, it’s written like a list.
She waited for the tears to come. But they never did.
Instead she sat alone, adding more tallies to her swords. Dancing with the dead inside her head.
Why is this so funny! I think it’s because both the tally-carving and the ghost-dancing is supposed to be these deep and haunted things she does that’s given a fair amount of weight and focus, but then it’s just written out like this like it’s just some generic routine shit she does like brushing her teeth or wiping her ass.
Yup, there she goes, doing her generic angsty shit one after the other. Emotional whiplash glossed over for the sake of moving the plot along. She’s in such a bad mental state that we simply MUST ignore it and move on.
Also, I want to highlight how convenient it is for Shinsay to already have Andi suspect and previously coming to terms with how her parents don’t love her before this confrontation. Like, we see her father save her tearfully, yet Andi has almost no hope that he still loves her. Or, she does, but when it’s squashed, she just ... accepts it? Because hey, she already processed that trauma years before! Makes it easy!
Wouldn’t it make it more impactful if all these years, she’s hoped that she has a home to come back to? That her father’s final act of saving her meant they love her still and want her to come back? And now she finds out that they never even mourned her loss? Wouldn’t that be heart-wrenching? And also add to the idea that Andi wants to return to Arcardia, both because it’s her home planet but also because that’s where her parents are? Instead we’re led to believe Andi wants to return, but when she does, she hates it here, she knows nobody wants her here, and she wants to leave immediately.
I seriously question the inclusion of this subplot and these characters. It adds nothing, changes nothing, and is just there to make Andi more angsty, which she already is, so ... why is this here lmao?
Shinsay really went “let’s squander all our potentially interesting ideas and concepts for the sake of more cheap angst and making our protag a cool emotionless badass who don’t care for no thing.”

Here Be Rejects and Weirdos
pairings/relationships: familial DRLAMP, background Logicality I guess.
tw: blood and gore I guess. cursing. that's pretty much it.
notes: no context. just a random thought. is this a super hero AU? idk. probably not.
--
What's hard about being a mutant? Is it the creepy scientists who wants to experiment on you? Is it the political unrest caused by people who are pro mutant and anti mutant? Is it the judging look people give you once they realize you're not human?
For Logan, it wasn't necessarily those things mentioned above. Nope. It's not even the fact that most people see his kind as weirdos and rejects. Those without a place in the world because they're different.
He was used to being told that he was different so it didn't matter to him. No. What's hard about being a mutant is adopting and raising mutant children.
Or in his case, four chaotic teenage mutants. God if Splinter could see him now. But let's not dive into that side of the universe.
Anyway, despite the fact that the teenagers can sometimes drive him crazy, Logan didn't mind. In fact, he loved the idea that these teenagers rely on him and look to him as a mother figure.
He says mother because the father role is taken up by his partner, Patton.
Now Patton, at first glance, doesn't look like he's different from normal human beings unlike the other mutants who you could obviously tell. His mutation enables him to cure injuries both minor and major. The only thing different about him is that his hair tends to change their colors whenever he's using his powers. They're naturally brown but they would turn white when he's healing someone else and they would turn golden when he's healing himself. It's weird, he knows. But whatever, he's a mutant.
Logan also at first glance looked more human than the rest of the mutants. The only distinct feature he has is when a series of coded tattoos would start to appear on his forehead down to his eyelids whenever he's using his power.
It has been a while since he last used his abilities. Mentoring and training four teenagers didn't really require much from his mutation.
Logan's mutation allows him to see and feel another mutant's presence. He could tell just by looking at them how strong they are, how powerful they could get and what their weaknesses are. With this vast knowledge on other mutants, Logan uses his degree in engineering to create weapons that could protect him and his family from other mutants who would want to harm them.
Because let's face it, there are those out there who would dare.
Anyway, Logan sat in his workshop and mumbled incoherent Tagalog to himself as he continued to work on the modifications on one of the teen's suits because of course he would create protective suits for his boys. They are mutants but they're children, they're his children.
It was well past ten in the evening but he knew that he wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't finish his work. He's not one to put off a project that he knows he can finish sooner rather than later.
The sliding door on his right caught his attention when it opened with a bang and three teenagers ran inside followed by Patton.
"Logan! Someone's captured Remus!" a red eyed red haired teenager yelled in alarm.
"how is that possible?" Logan asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Him and Roman were on their way back from patrol and me and Janus were supposed to meet them when we were attacked! They were from the opposition, I recognized their badges! What do we do!?" a purple haired teenager replied frantically as tendrils of shadows started to form by his feet.
Of course, not everyone is for the idea of mutants coexisting with the humans. So aside from the usual villain mutants, Logan and his family also had to deal with the human dictators who only had one thing in their mind: to purge and cleanse the world by removing the anomaly. The anomaly being them, the mutants.
"Virgil, honey…" Patton said and soothed his back.
"Virgil, calm down." Logan reminds him and the teen took a deep breath, shuddering.
"But why would they only take Remus?" Patton then asked once Virgil relaxed. He fixed his round eyeglasses on his face and looked warily at his partner.
"I mean if they were from the opposition then shouldn't they have captured all of them? And even if they were only interested in the wolves, why didn't they take Roman as well?" he added, gesturing to the red head.
"Roman hasn't fully shifted, Patton. The opposition has hunters and hunters could tell if you're a fully grown werewolf or not. Besides, Remus is an Alpha. An Alpha has high value in the black market. Roman has yet to know his standing since his transition is incomplete." Logan concludes.
"so they're gonna sell him?!" A brown haired teen with green scales on one side of his face hissed in disgust.
"probably." Logan replied and turned to his computer. "where did you last see him?" he asked before putting up a map of the city.
"we were attacked a few blocks away from the usual post." Virgil replied. He was trying his best to calm down. The last time he had a panic attack the entire mansion got covered in darkness and it was not a happy memory.
But how can he calm down when one of them has been captured. Sure, they all had these different abilities that will give them the upper hand against the opposition but they were also teenagers, they are still in training and they are young. Obviously, they had a lot to learn.
Also, they were outrageously outnumbered when they were attacked.
"Did you try finding him using your magic, Janus?" Patton asked the scaly teen.
"I did but the hunters had magic users with them when they attacked us and I could tell that they're blocking my magic right now." Janus answered.
"They had magic users? Now that's new." Patton commented. Indeed it was, the opposition usually housed humans, so why would they have mutant magic users at their disposal?
"I can't trace him with the shadows too. Either they're in a very well lit area or my range is just too short." Virgil responds.
"His scent was gone as soon as I woke up." Roman added as he bit his fingers in anxiousness.
He didn't like being separated from his twin. No matter how much they get on each other's nerves, they love and care for one another. To be honest, if Roman was to be asked, he would've hunted down the assholes who took his brother the moment the three of them woke up from being knocked out.
However, since Janus was the eldest foster kid, the decision on what to do next had to come from him.
"Roman, there is no need to worry. Remus is very capable in taking care of himself." Logan then says when an incoming video call pops up on the monitor.
"hello, mutant scum." A man Logan recognized as a hunter from the opposition greeted him as soon as he answered.
"Hunter." Logan acknowledged as he fixed his glasses on his face. He could hear Janus and Virgil hiss from behind him.
"Hey you asshole! Where's Remus?! Where's my brother!?" Roman yelled in distress and Patton had to hold him back. The red head was baring his fangs and his fingers were turning into claws.
"He's right here, cub." the man replied with a grin and turned the camera to show Remus.
The green haired teenager was bound to a chair with silver chains. He was banged up and gagged. His hair was disheveled and his eyes were glaring daggers at his captor.
"what do you want with him?" Patton asks.
"well at first we were going to kill him in front of a lot of people, you know, for kicks." The hunter sneered and Roman growled in anger.
"Then we thought why not sell his body parts to the black market? This one's an Alpha and that's really rare nowadays. And there are a lot who would pay good money just to see you burn." The man added while playing with the white streak on Remus' hair.
"BASTARD!!" Janus yelled angrily as he took a step forward but Logan held on his shoulder to calm him down.
"But then we figured, hey we can make more money if we hold him for ransom since isn't he under the protection of the famous Guardian? The same Guardian who proposed the coexisting of humans and mutants?" the man said and they could hear laughter from other people in the background.
"yeah. We know all about you and your foster kids. You really think that you guys joining together will create a family? You're no family. You're what's wrong with this world.." the man said and smirked at Logan who surprisingly didn't care about what the hunter was saying. Instead, he turned his attention to Remus.
"Remus, are you alright?" He asked and Remus made eye contact with him through the monitor.
"He can't answer you right now. He's busy trying not to die." The hunter replied.
"it's a shame we didn't take the puppy too. We could've made more money with two werewolves." He laughed maniacally and they heard Remus mumble something through the gag in his mouth.
"What?" The hunter asked and pulled away the gag.
"I said," Remus coughed but then he glared at the hunter, "you fuckers better leave my brother alone."
"Ha! We could have your brother if we wanted to, you imbecile! He's weaker and easier to kill. Add that half snake and winged demon and we can have dough that could last us for years. Although they're not really worth much unlike your kind." the men around them laughed loudly that they missed the growl rising from Remus' throat.
"Please don't kill him." Logan sighed as he pinched the bridge of his nose but the men only laughed harder at his words.
"You think you can beg for the life of this monster? You are disgusting. You're rejects. You're abnormal, you're experiments gone wrong. Listen, you don't get to make demands here, Guardian. You failed watching over your so called band of misfits and-"
"I wasn't talking to you." Logan cuts him off when they hear the breaking of chains followed by a ferocious growl.
The hunters turn around as Remus shakes off the silver chains. He raises his head and flashes them a toothy, albeit scary, smile.
"You see, what you hunters don't know is that Remus and Roman aren't ordinary werewolf mutants. They're mutant hybrids." Logan starts, fixing his glasses again, "which means that those silver chains? they're pretty much like chew toys for the likes of him."
Remus transformed. His pale skin turned a darker color, his hair grew longer and down to his waist, his usually green eyes were brighter and his fingernails were the shape of claws. He got on all fours and once he growled, the hunters eyes went wide.
There was a scream and the tearing sounds of flesh as Remus destroyed everything and everyone in the room. The laptop where the call was still ongoing got turned over right next to a severed head.
"subdue him!" they heard someone yell and they could see more people from the opposition appear and attack Remus.
"it's the magic users." Janus hissed.
"we have to help him!" Roman yelled then there was a beep in one of the monitors. A red dot blinked rapidly at the map in front of them.
Apparently, Logan had started tracing the call, the minute the hunters called them.
"Go." He then said and gave a nod to Janus who materialized a black staff out of nowhere. He chanted in an ancient language as his eyes turned yellow. There was a flash of light and then the three teenagers were gone.
Remus dodged a magic spell thrown at him by one of the hunter's peers. He growled lowly and was cornered to a wall when the lights went out.
"About damn fucking time!" He yelled when the people around him started yelling profanities at something that was attacking them in the dark.
"MONSTER!" someone yelled and raised a knife to stab Remus from behind but there came another growl on the right and the assailant was immediately tackled to the ground.
The lights then came back on and Remus saw that most of the hunters and their magician friends were down on the ground. He licks the blood off his fingers as he transforms back to his normal form.
"good job." Janus comments as his staff dematerializes. He brushes off his cloak and turns to Virgil who was still clouded by his shadows.
"Vee? We're all good." He called and the shadows immediately disappear to reveal their youngest.
"god fuck. These assholes ruined my day." Remus then says.
"well, you got them back so I guess you're even." Janus replies.
"let's go home. I'm hungry." Remus says as he watches Roman revert back to his human form.
"I'll do it." Virgil says and his eyes turn a dark shade of purple before they all get consumed by the shadows.
"well that was fun." Remus grins, his teeth yellow and bloody because of the fight.
"yes, I could tell." Logan replies as the teenagers step out of Virgil's shadows.
"ugh. You stink, Remus." Roman then comments.
"not as stinky as your breath!" Remus retorts and smothers Roman's face with his bloodied hands.
"GROSS! YOU'RE A DISGUSTING HUMAN BEING!!!" Roman whines.
"We're not human, you genius!" Remus cackles, "You, for instance, are a bitch!" he adds and dodges the clawed hand of his brother.
"you take that back!" Roman demands but before they could get in another fight, Patton stepped in to stop them.
"Alright now kiddos. Now that we have Remus back, it's time you all get some rest. Remus, I'm glad you're okay." He smiles in relief.
"Of course pop. I was just caught off guard. Won't happen again. Unless of course some hunter is dumb enough to cross hybrids again." the teen shrugs.
"Right. Now go and take a bath. And off to bed. All of you." Patton replies and the rest of the teenagers pile out but not before Remus makes another off hand comment.
"besides I think now they'll be too scared since Roman showed his ugly face."
"UGLY?? I'M UGLY?! WE'RE TWINS YOU STUPID GENIUS!"
"god shut up!" Janus yells at both of them before flicking his wrist, causing the twins to be bound tightly in ropes.
"Why is this my family?" Virgil sighs but there was a soft smile on his face as he watches Janus levitate the twins to their rooms.
Patton then turns to Logan who shuts off his workstation as well.
"I was wondering why you were so calm. Usually you would've been just as bad as me if one of the boys went missing." He says and Logan lets a grin form on his mouth.
"I know their potential, Patton. I am The Guardian after all."

Foxgloves ://: Chapter 1
Summary: Y/N was content living a normal life. Well, as normal as her life could be with the power to stun and cause death (in extreme conditions) with just a touch of her hand. Let’s just say gloves are a girl’s best friend, not diamonds. When the Winter Soldier surfaced, she was called in by Director Nick Fury to assist Captain America in fighting against a corrupt SHIELD. To the world, she is known as Foxgloves, the girl with poisons touch. To her team, she’s a mystery, coming out of nowhere, with her amazing combat skills and poisonous touch, to be recruited into their little group of super humans. Nobody knew of her origin, until Helmut Zemo’s plans consist of more than exposing the Winter Soldier as Howard and Martha Stark’s killer. Warnings: Mild cursing. A/N: Hey there! This is my first work on Tumblr, so I hope you enjoy and feedback is always great! Also, I promise Bucky will be in the next chapter!
I awoke with a start, let’s just say being whisked into a meeting with Secretary of State Ross wasn’t what I expected after stepping out of my room. I made my way downstairs to the conference room, nibbling on a protein bar. I caught up with Steve and Wanda, exchanging greetings. “Do you know what this is about?” I asked in my thick, accented voice. Wanda links her arm with mine and says “No clue, I just want to go back to my room, maybe sleep for a year,” she pauses “or a hundred.” We both start laughing while we walk through the glass doors, stopping instantly as we are met with the serious faces of the rest of the team.
“Glad to see you cared to join us Y/N,” starts Sam “I’m honestly surprised to see you among the living at a shocking” he checks the clock, “12 AM.” I glare at him as I take my seat at the end of the table. “Fuck off, Sam, you’re making me sound like an actual sloth.” I snap back. “Wait, you aren’t actually a sloth?” he gasps, “What about a bear? I think you should be getting ready for hibernation.” Sam smiles smugly, amused with my lack of patience without my morning coffee. “Says the guy who ca- “I am cut off by Tony standing up and looking pointedly at the two of us. “Will you two please stop arguing like children and be serious for once.” I give him a once over, noting his tense posture and the stern voice. Sam and I look at each other and nod. Tony sighs, “Okay, excellent. Mr. Secretary please begin.” The pepper haired man at the head of the table nods. “5 years ago, I had a heart attack. I dropped right in the middle of my batting swing. Turned out, it was the best round of my life because after 13 hours of surgery and a triple bypass…” I tune him out, not wanting to hear about the haughty man’s dumb golf accident, being more interested in the pitcher of water in front of me.
“New York.” A clip from the Battle of New York begins playing, gaining my attention. “Washington DC. Sokovia. Lagos.” The most recent of the clips causes Wanda to look away, I shoot her a reassuring smile. I know she blames herself for the building collapsing, it’s not her fault she was never taught how to fully control her powers up until now. “Okay, that’s enough.” Halts Steve. Ross nods at his assistant and says, “For the past 4 years, you operated with unlimited power and no supervision. That's an arrangement the governments of the world can no longer tolerate. But I think we have a solution.” He slides over a thick book to Wanda and begins walking around the table. “The Sokovia Accords. Approved by 117 countries. It states, that the Avengers shall no longer be a private organization. Instead, they'll operate under the supervision of a United Nations Panel, only when and if that Panel deems it necessary.” He stops next to Steve as he begins, staring at the table “The Avengers were formed to make the world a safer place. I feel we’ve done that.” A moment of silence passes before Secretary Ross asks “Tell me Captain, do you know where Thor and Banner are right now?” I glance over at Tony, who looks like he’s trying to shove his fist into his mouth and disappear into his chair at the same time. “If I misplaced a couple of 30 megaton nukes you can bet there’d be consequences.” He walks back to the head of the table while saying “Compromise. Reassurance. That’s how the world works. Believe me, this is the middle ground.” Rhodey breaks his silence by saying “So, there are contingencies.” “Three days from now, the UN meets in Vienna to ratify the Accords.” Steve glances back at Tony, while Tony looks at the ground. ‘Stark what did you do?’ was my only thought. Secretary Ross tells us to “talk it over” and starts to leaves. I stop him, asking “And if we come to a decision you don’t like?” He looks pointedly at me, while I glare up at him. “Then you retire.” With that, he leaves, leaving the rest of us to think over the news.
Tony gets up first and leaves the room. Shortly after, the rest of us follow him up into the living area. I excuse myself and go to my room, changing into something that isn’t my pajamas. I slip on some denim shorts and a casual white tee with a faux leather jacket on top. I slip my gloves back on and make my way to the elevators, tying my sneakers on the way down. As soon as the doors open I hear, “So let’s say we agree to this thing. How long is it gonna be before they LoJack us like a bunch of common criminals?” I step out and remark under my breath “I sure love debate team.” Natasha looks over, acknowledging my presence. Scanning the room, I see Steve reading the at least 2-inch-thick book, Wanda and Vison on the couch next to him, Tony lounging on the one near the kitchenette with his hand over his face, Natasha next to him, and Sam and Rhodey standing behind Steve, bickering about signing the Accords or not. “117 countries want to sign this.” Begins the older of the two men, “117, Sam, and you’re just like, ‘No, that’s cool. We got it- “Sam cuts him off. “How long are you gonna play both side?” Vison intervenes, thankfully. “I have an equation.” Everyone turns to the purple man, waiting for him to explain. “Oh, this will clear it up.” remarks Sam. “In the eight years since Mr.Stark announced himself as Iron Man the number of known enhances persons has grown exponentially.” He begins, “During the same period the number of potentially world ending events has risen at a commensurate rate.” Steve’s voice asks, “Are you saying it’s our fault?” Vison looks over at him and replies, “I’m saying there may be a causality.” He pauses, thinking over his next words. “Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe. Oversight. Oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand.” “Boom.” Comments Rhodey, looking over at Sam.
Natasha pipes up, “Tony,” he looks at her” “you are being uncharacteristically non-hyperverbal.” “It’s because he’s already made up his mind.” I say, causing Tony to look over at me. “Boy, you know me so well.” He says, getting up. “Actually, I’m nursing an electromagnetic headache. That’s what’s going on, Y/N. It’s just pain. It’s discomfort.” He grabs a coffee mug, frowning at the sink, “Who’s putting coffee grounds in the disposal?” he turns around with the French press, “Am I running a bed and breakfast for a biker gang?” He stops, pulling out his phone and casting the photo of a teenage boy in a park. Sighing, he says “Oh, that’s Charles Spencer, by the way. He’s a great kid. Computer engineering degree, 3.6 GPA, had a floor-level gig at Intel planned for the fall. But first, he wanted to put a few miles on his soul before he parked it behind a desk. See the world. Maybe be of service. Charlie didn’t want to go to Vegas or Fort Lauderdale, which is what I would do. He didn’t go to Paris or Amsterdam, which sounds fun. He decided to spend his summer building sustainable housing for the poor.” ‘Wow,’ I think, looking down at the floor and playing with the hem of my glove, ‘I don’t like where this is going’. “Guess where. Sokovia.” spits Tony causing Wanda and Vison to look down. I make my way over and sit next to the brunette, slinging my arm around her waist, pulling her into my side. Wanda is like the little sister I never had, but always wanted. I’d never let anything happen to her. “He wanted to make a difference, I suppose. We won’t know because we dropped a building on him while we were kicking ass.” He takes a sip from his blue mug, “There’s no decision-making process here. We need to be put in check. Whatever form that takes, I’m game. If we can’t accept limitations, if we’re boundary-less, we’re no better than the bad guys.”
I begin to tune him out, focusing on everyone else in the room. Steve says something, but I don’t hear. After a few more exchanges between Steve, Tony, and Rhodey, the billionaire walks over to Steve. “When I realized what my weapons were capable of in the wrong hands, I shut it down and stopped manufacturing.” Steve turns towards him, obviously annoyed. “Tony, you chose to do that. If we sign this, we surrender our right to choose.” He turns to the rest of us, “What if this panel sends us somewhere we don’t think we should go?” Natasha looks lost in thought, probably torn. I can see the benefits of signing but the cons outweigh it, in my opinion. “What if there is somewhere we need to go and they don’t let us? We may not be perfect, but the safest hands are still our own.” Tony’s raspy voice says, “If we don’t do this now, it’s gonna be done to us later. That’s the fact. That won’t be pretty.” Wanda lifts her head, “You’re saying they’ll come for me.” The animatronic voice of Vison reassures her. “Maybe Tony’s right.” everyone in the room turns to the red-head, “If we have one hand on the wheel, we can still steer. If we take it off-“ “Aren’t you the same woman who told the government to kiss her ass a few years ago?” Sam stares at Natasha incredulously. “I’m just reading the terrain.” She replies, hesitantly. “We have made some very public mistakes. We need to win their trust back.” Of course, Tony’s cocky attitude breaks through and I ignore him. Steve’s phones buzzes and he leaves. I trail after, concerned. ‘He never gives up a fight this easily” I think as I follow him down the stairs. I don’t say anything, I can tell he doesn’t want to talk about it.
I lean against him, giving some comfort, and pull his phone out. Unlocking it, I pull up the latest text that reads “She’s gone. In her sleep.”
