just watched the somerville high school production of newsies everyone has been talking about and oh my god.
the fight scene was so heartbreaking i cant. race holding onto jack as he panics saying "i cant go back" when he sees snyder? race pulling jack away telling him "we have to go" as jack tries to go after crutchie who is yelling "jack! race! please! youre right there!" while hes dragged off stage? fucking sobbing.
and santa fe ??? starting with jack going "no no no no crutchie no" ???? my heart has been shattered.
how the hell does a high school pull this off😭😭

You know what’s a crazy butterfly effect we never talk about?? The musical film ‘Grease’ eventually leading to Olivia Rodrigo’s fame. Think about it:
The film ‘Grease’ was released in 1978, and its immense success led to the sequel ‘Grease 2’ (1982). In 1999 a script for ‘Grease 3’ was developed, but the project was shelved until 2004 when the script was adapted into ‘High School Musical’. ‘High School Musical’ was then released in 2006, becoming an instant hit and earning the film two sequels. The movie series had such lasting fame, that in 2017 a TV show inspired by the film series was developed titled ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ (‘HSMTMTS’ for short). Olivia Rodrigo was cast as one of the leading roles in the show, and was given the opportunity to write an original song for her character - the song she ended up writing titled ‘All I Want’. Upon the release of ‘HSMTMTS’ in 2019, ‘All I Want’ began gaining popularity and charted on the Billboard Hot 100. This gained Olivia interest from label executives, and she ended up signing a record deal with Interscope/Geffen. During Olivia’s time on ‘HSMTMTS’ she met and dated a fellow co-star, and their subsequent break up inspired her to write the song ‘driver’s license’. She then released ‘driver’s license’ as her debut single in 2021, and the song charted at number 1 and skyrocketed her to a whole new level of fame.
So without ‘Grease’, you wouldn’t have ‘High School Musical’, and without ‘High School Musical’ you wouldn’t have ‘HSMTMTS’, and without ‘HSMTMTS’ Olivia would not have written the song that got her a record deal or met the person who inspired ‘driver’s license’, and THAT is how Grease led to Olivia Rodrigo’s fame over 40 years after its release.

Hey would the 4 of you mind rating these songs from 1-10? With 1 being the worst and 10 being the best. Because I wanna know what music you prefer.
(This all based solely off the preview that spotify is giving me)

The Coordinator: I am going to pretend I know how you made those noises with your mouth. In order it's 3, 7, 4, 7.
Tumblr media
The Charmer: I think for me it's 6, 8, 3, and 5.
Tumblr media
The Cartographer: I don't know? 1, 5, 4, 3?
Tumblr media
The Curator: I don't know what you're all talking about that first song is an 8. And then 5, 5, 5.

But yeah bottomline to me is that I actually LOVED what they did with the Maddox and Ashlyn storyline, I just hate that Big Red's entire character had to suffer for it. 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

listening to some temple songs and thinking “oh i’ve heard this used for felix before” and realizing that sooooo many ppl like felix bc they think he has temple’s personality but he straight up doesn’t. like i’m not gonna deny that felix is dramatic but it’s not that same theater kid reveling in— camp. that’s what it is. felix isn’t fucking camp. but so many ppl really fuckin want him to be.

Someone: so how are you?
Me: The reason why High School Musical The Musical The Series works so well is because at the end of the day, it took the correct but surface level message of the original movies (that theater is for everyone, even jocks and math nerds), and added a sense of depth to it that reflects reality better than pretty much any other theater focused show or movie I've ever seen.
When I say that, I mean that shows or movies that involve a drama club or theater in general will take the message of "theater is for everyone" and really only apply it to queer (and sometimes only queer coded) outcasts. And yeah, it's true that theater is for the queer outcasts. I'm saying this as a queer person who loves theater! Theater is a major safe space for all the queer people who were picked last in dodgeball, and that will never change. But some things (*cough* the Theater Camp movie *cough*) will take that idea and project their message as "yeah, theater is for everyone" but they really only mean those types of people. HSMTMTS, on the other hand, understands that theater is not just for the queer outcasts, but for everyone.
Yes, there are queer kids in the East High Drama Club (who have significant arcs and get to be more than just stereotypes). There are also straight kids in the club (who also get full character arcs and get to be more than the butt of the joke in a theater environment). They are able to co-exist. There are certified skater bois who start off only caring about themselves. There are water polo players with six packs who have also been into theater for years. There are shy kids who don't think they can handle being on stage and then really come into their own by the end of the series. There are kids with anxiety. There are outgoing kids who want to be the center of attention. There are kids who have been kicked out of school for their attitude problems and kids who have never been in one place long enough to get attached to people. There is never a joke made about the straight, good looking, social butterflies not belonging in the club, because Miss Jenn truly understands the message that THEATER IS FOR EVERYONE, not just the Sharpays and Ryans. In this essay, I will-

Aw the siblings have matching jackets!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I was actually checking to see if it was the same jacket, cause that would have been a nice touch from the costumes department, cause siblings steal each other's shit all the time.
But Maddie is tiny and both jackets are well fitted to them, so it can't be Jets.
It is cute tho
