if anyone's ever wondered why I ship Heiffel so hard, it's because on my first listen-thru, years and years ago, I got to this scene in episode 15 What's Up Doc? and I legitimately believed (for like however many minutes it took Hilbert to actually explain the Decima thing) with all of my heart and soul that Hilbert stopped Minkowski cause he was secretly in love with Eiffel and Minkowski had figured it out and that's why she thought threatening to kill Eiffel would work

some fluffy-ish random Heiffel (Hilbert x Eiffel) headcanons I have in no particular order (but the ones that are specific scenarios are probably very early on in the mission before Hilbert's mutiny) :

Eiffel has insomnia and will go hang out in Hilbert's lab and ramble at him when he's having particularly hard nights falling asleep

Eiffel falls asleep in Hilbert's lab sometimes, and sometimes Hilbert will wake him to send him back to bed, but other times Hilbert will just pull Eiffel's floating sleeping body back to his room and tuck him into bed, doing his best not to wake him

Sometimes Eiffel wants something to distract him from his thoughts so he'll ask Hilbert to tell him about whatever science experiment he's working on, and Hilbert will talk for as long as Eiffel's willing to listen about it because he likes being able to talk about his work even if most of what he says goes over Eiffel's head

Eiffel is extremely touch starved (and traumatized obviously) by the time he gets back to the Hephaestus after being rescued by the SI5, and he ends up breaking down sobbing about it during his checkup from Hilbert, and Hilbert hugs him for almost half an hour and Eiffel thanks him for it after but they never talk about it again

Eiffel thinks Hilbert's accent is sooo hot and he gets flustered every time he hears Hilbert speak Russian

Hilbert/Selberg had a secret romance with Lambert during their Hephaestus mission (this is relevant because Selberg/Lambert Eiffel/Hilbert parallels are very important to me)

Eiffel and Lambert looked pretty similar but not identical, Eiffel's hair is a warm dark brown and curly and down to his armpits, where as Lambert's hair was straight dirty blonde and chin length (plus he wore glasses), but they did both have very similar facial features of longer faces, pointy chins, and prominent noses, and they both had the same eye colour of soft light green, like new leaves in the springtime

Hilbert has never cared about having a good bedside manner, but he does try to be a bit extra gentle and kind with Eiffel because he's just so easily freaked out by all the medical and science stuff

Eiffel would never admit it but he really appreciates that Hilbert doesn't outwardly judge him for his jumpyness with medical/science stuff

If Hilbert had survived and gotten back to Earth with the others, he and Eiffel probably would have ended up being roommates in some shitty little apartment together for a while, while they both figure out what to do with their lives now

I'm a sucker for Hilbert and Eiffel's weird relationship especially bc there's a very good reason Eiffel becomes so fixated on the humanity of this guy who has very badly hurt him. He offers a redemption Hilbert doesn't even want because he has to believe that no crime can strip a person of their human dignity or their right to live. There is no threshold of transgression at which a human being becomes a monster, and deserves to suffer for it.

And that's because the only reason Eiffel's even there on the U.S.S. Human Trafficking is because someone else already judged him, convicted felon Doug Eiffel, to have crossed that threshold. He was that monster. And he didn't deserve it.

#like it's not even a self esteem thing its an external judgement thing #to judge him by his rap sheet eiffel is a bad person #anyone with a conventional moral compass could look at his crimes and say ''yeah fuck that guy''#and he has to live with that for the rest of his life #so really his refusal to give up on Hilbert stems from his growing refusal to give up on himself #w359 #wolf 359 #doug eiffel #alexander hilbert #heiffel #doesn't have to be but can be if you want it to be #I am in a solowly decaying orbit around relistening to this podcast #again #pretty sure I will soon reach the point of singularity
