yay! I drew these quite literally three years ago. dragonheart!milo and raihan! a knight on a doomed dragon hunt being lifted out of his station by a small village medicine man. together they become magic lawyers and overthrow the government

the main details in these do survive into the iterations I’ve drawn (instead of these actual designs I spent time to make el oh el): the “leaf” diamond quilt/gambeson and the plaited coattail for milo, the “atypical” weapons, long coat, and large number of scattered fake gold trims and accessories for raihan. I think I lost raihan the hat and added a cape for milo further down the line because like this their general silhouettes are too similar for my liking lol

(following my own advice and getting to know Milo(?))

Getting up and out of bed was hard. It always had been for Milo. At no point in his life had he been what one could call a morning person. This might have made it a bad idea then to own a coffee shop. Or so his step-mother had always said. Milo had learned early on not to care much about what she or his father had to say. That gut instinct had only been cemented when he realized how bigoted they were (and how very not straight he was). He didn’t talk to them anymore. Which was good, or Jenny was sure to making disparaging comments about the fact that Milo needed six alarms to make it out of bed and into the shower at any sort of a reasonable pace. Another alarm made sure he didn’t spend too long in the shower, letting the too warm water slowly wake him up and soothe the ache in his bones that came with being thirty-nine. It was a tough climb on the body to make it to ‘over the hill’, apparently. Milo knocked back the little collection of vitamins and allergy medications, brushed his teeth, and, at another alarm, made his way to get dressed. An advantage of owning a coffee shop that Milo hadn’t expected was the excuse to wear almost the same thing every day and call it a uniform. Once upon a time he may have been a fashionable young man, but there was something easy about pulling out a pair of dark wash jeans and yet another henley shirt each morning. It didn’t take any thinking, at least. Milo didn’t really start thinking until after his first cup of coffee, which made owning a coffee shop really a very good idea. (Take that Jenny.)

Mikitama is walking back to the Butterfly mansion from the market.

She glances up at the darkening sky and she speeds up.

Before Mikitama can get back home, the sun fully sets and Mikitama’s heart begins racing with anxiety.

Her eyes widen and she lets out a soft gasp as she freezes due to the sound of a stick breaking.

Before she can react, a demon pounces on her small form and knocks her out before she can call for help.

The demon bites into her shoulder then Kenji tackles it, pure rage in his expression.

He fought the demon with all of his might before finally decapitating it.

Mikitama starts to wake up and she sees Kenji drop to his knees, coughing up blood.

She gasps and rushes to his side, tears in her eyes. “K-Kenji!” She cries out and hugs him.

Kenji coughs before responding. “A-are you okay, Miki..?” He asks as he pulls away just enough to look at her then he cups her face in his hands.

Tears start flowing down Mikitama’s cheeks which Kenji is quick to gently wipe away with his thumbs. “I-I love you… P-please don’t l-leave me…!” The small yokai cries out and tries desperately to heal him.

Kenji smiles sadly and hugs her. “I love you too, sweetheart… Please continue to live on for me… Don’t stop smiling… I’ll always be watching over you…”

Mikitama gasps when Kenji starts to slump into her, tears in his eyes as well.

She hugs him tightly as she cries desperately for him to be okay.

“K-Kenji…. P-please….” She whispers tearfully as she tightens her arms around him.

Kenji would do anything to make sure Mikitama would always be safe.

He would do it all for her.

i couldn’t figure out how to end it- i sorry- ;-; (probably no more character death fics after this. i have to be in a very specific mood to be able to write it and even then i don’t like doing it. i just didn’t want to deny my pookie her request since it didn’t rlly make me uncomfortable, it just made me super sad;-;)
