They don't know if Apathy did this, or if its something else that made Heart unconscious, but they are going to figure out a way to wake him up.

I remembered that traditional East Asian age reckoning starts at 1 (although Japan stopped using that in 1950) and am now contemplating 3 possibilities:

FMA was written in Japan post-1950. Everyone's reported ages are using Western reckoning.

FMA is a period piece. Everyone's ages are using traditional East Asian reckoning. Al was only 9 years old by Western reckoning when he lost his body. Even more horrifying.

Amestris uses Western reckoning and Xing uses Eastern reckoning and when Ed finds out Ling is a year younger than him and over a head taller he loses his goddamn mind.
