What if Edwin compares himself to David because Crystal let her whole life get swept into what David was doing and Charles let his whole afterlife get swept into what Edwin was doing?

HERE IT IS

this is my definitely completely necessary, i promise, sonic style study!! i spent nine and a half hours on this canvas! aaa! i will master this style if it's the last thing i do!!!

more about my process under the cut!

the purpose of this study was to really get the proportions down as i figure out how sonic characters fit into my style. for this specific study i was mainly looking at the model sheets for the sonic team racing animation. i like the cartoony/sharp style combined with the more modern designs. eye and especially muzzle shapes played an important part in my progress with this.

my process began with looking at the sheets for sonic and shadow specifically-- sonic, because he's the blueprint for the style, and shadow because he's a lot like sonic and also i lov ehim. you can see i took lots of notes and "measurements" at first (on the left) and heavily referenced the poses from the model sheets. i made an effort to avoid relying on tracing at this stage. (and later on, i colored using my best judgement-- no color picking! gotta train your eye for color too!)

there's still so many intricacies that i'm trying to get an eye for, but after this i feel a lot more confident in portraying this style in a way that satisfies me. there's just so much to balance!!

after i felt comfortable with my more scientific approach, i tried getting more expressive, experimenting with different expressions and poses that i thought fit the characters (and injecting some of my headcanons obviously). this was to practice conveying each character's personality and as well as drawing them in ways that weren't completely static, like so much of my art has been lately (character designing kinda leans into that...)

i would have drawn more but i ran out of space and got tired lol. perhaps i'll do a part two, because i want to draw more characters interacting than who i usually gravitate towards. amy and knuckles were a dip into that. (side note, i was kinda shocked at how much easier knuckles was to draw with the right references, and how difficult amy is despite looking similar to sonic and shadow, who i have a lot more experience with. it's her hair...)

anyway, i'm very proud to have completed this, and i feel like it helped me improve so much! i highly recommend style studies if you have the patience for it. you can get the same effect by just drawing the characters a lot, but it feels good to sit down and really dedicate some time and space to it. for me anyway :)

from your character analysis ask meme, for alhaitham: Are they prone to jealousy? would he be too logical to be jealous? Would his jealousy be in vain or would it perhaps be a sign that his partner has crossed the line of sorts?

Definition of jealousy:

I apologize for taking some time with this ask. I’m going to answer this in a more analytical format because I think this situation calls for it. I want to say that no, under normal circumstances, Alhaitham is not the kind of person to get jealous. In my experience, there are usually three triggers for jealousy:

1. Reader interacting normally with friends and hobbies and partner gets (unreasonably) jealous

2. Reader getting too involved with spending time with friends/hobbies not realizing they’re neglecting partner which gets them (reasonably) jealous

3. Reader specifically does things that will incite jealousy within partner by purposefully doing things like ignoring partner or flirting with others

Alhaitham would not get jealous under the first instance. Being a very independent person, he would understand and respect his partner’s need for it as well. The second instance would be the closest he’d feel to your definition of jealousy. While he’d be able to withstand it for a while, eventually he’d probably feel neglected and would pull you away to capture your sole attention.

As for the third scenario, while he would get upset and would get jealous, I don’t believe this would happen in a normal relationship. Personally, I would never flirt with someone that isn’t my partner just for fun, even if I’m close to them. I think that’s a very hurtful thing to do to someone that has feelings for you.

So long story short, no, I don’t think Alhaitham is prone to jealousy. Not that he’s “too logical” to be jealous. He just understands and respects people’s need for independence. That being said, he probably can end up feeling neglected if left alone too long.

And also, I saw a (presumably) American Jew get in a fight with an Israeli because the Israeli expressed... uncharitable thoughts toward Palestinians. This came from a place of frustration and resentment that non Israelis simply won't understand on a visceral level.

But the American Jew decried the Israeli as "not living up to Jewish values." I hope everyone realizes that half of Israelis are completely secular. Their Jewish identity has nothing to do with religious beliefs or practices.

The IDF does not consult the Shulkhan Arukh before making military decisions. The Israeli government is not pondering what the Great Sages of the Talmudic era would think of every law they pass. I'm sorry but for millions of Israelis they don't care. Your invoking Tikkun Olam or Pikuach Nefesh or this or that or the third thing won't sway many Israelis.

They don't live their lives by the Torah, and you come across as incredibly preachy and corny when you try to lecture them about how they're not "upholding Jewish values," when they, in this example, don't give Life unparalleled primacy. That's one of your values, and that's awesome, and most Rabbis would agree it is a core value of Judaism, but Israelis are not failing to be Good Jews when they don't live their lives by this or any other value.

Israel is a real country with real concerns, full of real people who need practical solutions to everyday problems. We as Americans probably are more religious than non-Orthodox Israelis on the whole, because religious thought and practice is a more necessary component of a Jewish identity here. You need to define yourself against the gentile majority. That's not the case in Israel. And religious Israelis often simply can't afford to have this demure affectation of nonviolence.

I don't know it just rubbed me the wrong way, to see an Israeli declare they didn't care about Palestinians going hungry, clearly from a place of pain, and to see Americans wag their fingers and say "Ugh you're being such a bad Jew!"
