I’m going to scream into the Tumblr void for a minute;

So basically. One of my favourite webcomics is on hiatus right now. And the fandom is speaking via the webtoon and Ao3 comment sections. I was rereading one of the chapters and went to the comment section to preserve my sanity. And in that particular episode there was a gay kiss. Slay. I knew this was coming. Most of it was just stuff like “FINALLY. YOU TOOK LONG ENOUGH” but a few were things like “I thought this was a Jesus loving, lord praising webcomic. how dare the author betray us Christians like this with this homosexual bs”. I think it was because the comic uses Christianity as a jumping off point for fantasy. It’s this elaborate system where the characters get their powers via archangels. It’s a really cool concept that I enjoy and have taken inspiration from multiple times in my own works. What I don’t understand is how it was made distinctly clear that this was an lgbt comic; yet people still got angry. The author has a pride flag in their bio. One of the main cast is a lesbian. The romance between the two characters that kissed was a slow build up that was still very much noticeable. Hell one of the side couples is gay. I’m thick as a watermelon rind but was still able to get it. I can’t understand why someone would get mad over something that other people as well as the creator themself showed them. It’s like like ignoring a neon light telling you not to go down a road but getting frustrated when you get lost. It’s immature and childish. Grow up and learn to not interact with something you’ll react negatively to.

jigen started that conversation by kinda just blurting out how he never really liked girls

he covered it up by saying it could be from how his life is and how he doesn't have time to think about it

lupin reassures him by saying he wouldn't mind being romantic with jigen

they tested out these feeling by kissing and seeing how they felt

they were each others first kiss

they used their multiple hideouts as a place to be alone

they spend that time holding hands and holding each other and sharing small kisses

they didn't see themselves as dating because they didn't go on dates or show affection publicly

they also didn't because they didn't say they were especially because their feelings were a bit complex (aka they didn't know how exactly they felt about all this)

the drive-in theater was totally their first date

lupin told his housekeeper about his relationship she wasn't the most approving but had no place to tell him no

his dad found out and was like "... okay cool. have fun you young love birds"

jigen's dad heard from ONE rumor at school that secretly just so happen to be true and did some bad shit.... (fuck gis dad bro I'd fight him 1v1 😡 he was mean to such a tiny baby)

his dads disapproval despite him denying it is what drove jigen to take that job in ep 6

that and jigens dad more or less making him

they ran away together and have been together ever since

jigen started living more at lupins place

he started getting called young master and almost cried the first time

in my personal aus (in my head, haven't shared them here!), i do have genderbent starscream, but IF starscream is a woman then you'd BETTER believe megatron is a woman. genderbending only one person in a ship, to me, at least just screams homopbia or lesbophobia. we all have our reasons but i am not down with only genderbending one person in a ship.

tho my discussion really wasn't about genderbending, i tend to think sometimes people see femme and automatically decide that means woman. BUUT i do like lesbian megastar and lesbian starscream and megatron as separate characters (and then together akdfja;)

Honestly I think the difference between mackleroys and rooster teeth isn't that the brothers aren't homophobic while RT it but that when they are they listen and make amends. Like to me on their own the queerbaiting in RWBY and Bury Your Gays in TAZ are about the same in that they hurt queer people but were probably not intended and are the result of internalized/not realized homophobia and ignorance of how widespread the issue is. But when miles got confronted he doubled down on how it was all caused by totally not homophobic intentions so it's not actually homophobic and refused to analyze himself or listen to how he could make it better, where Griffin responded by putting multiple queer people in later arcs and apologizing for fulfilling the trope in one of the QA episodes. Like het content creators will always mess up but like the way you react to messing up makes such a huge difference
