🥪 - Who didn't you know before it all started but now you root for them in every poll?
Also some own questions (answer as much as you like and leave the rest):
Is there any story you like very much but for whatever reason you couldn't include?
Did the preliminaries went as you imagined and/or hoped?
What was the most surprising thing so far in the tournament? Either regarding the submissions or the polls?
Thanks for the questions omg!
there have been quite a few stories ive fallen in love with through this tournament! Where Oaken Hearts Do Gather was one of my favorites, as well as A Guide For Working Breeds (rip). For upcoming stories, I like --And He Built A Crooked House--.
a few submissions were just too long for me to include, especially as i tried to be stricter about length at the start of submissions - The Ugly Little Boy by Isaac Asimov almost made me cry but it was just too long. also someone submitted 17776 and thats a kinda very long story but also... i should reread it, its great.
oh my god. preliminaries. the entire time i kept calling them pre-brackets. and the word preliminaries was right there. i was a fool. hehe omg. uuuh they went pretty much as i imagined! it was interesting to see people in my notes who were familiar with these works in ways im not (i actually havent read many Classics). maybe someone should run a tournament for every sherlock holmes story...
the need for preliminaries at all! i'll be honest i messed up a lot during the submissions period - i kinda assumed no one would be interested in this so i never limited submissions per person or author or decided on a word limit or capped the number of stories, and then i had to make do with the wild submissions ive gotten (though i'm happy with how it turned out). also - im surprised scandal in bohemia beat the end poem that handily, i wouldve thought the minecraft fandom would have posed a stronger threat. maybe if i'd called it the Minecraft End Poem instead of just the End Poem? oh, im also amazed at Man Door Hand Hook Car Door sweeping. its up against Cask of Amontillado next round, which is going to be insane. one last thing - its been fun to see the same people cropping up in my notes! feels like we've got a nice little community of bookworms here :3 i appreciate you all <3

DP x DC fic/Prompt Quest
Can someone help me find this fic/post? There's this post that I think started off as a prompt, that like alot of prompts, grew from multiple people adding on to it. I don't remember every detail of it but I'll try my best.
So from what I can remember, it started off with Danny having continuous health related effects from the accident such as: a stutter, struggling to move half of his body as well as the other half, and chronic pain. When he's 16(I think) his parents find out he's Phantom and don't take it well. They don't hurt him or anything but they do kick him out and let him take the car. I don't remember how/why but Danny is Bruce's bio son so after he gets kicked out, he goes to see him only for Bruce to reject him as well. In some weird way, Bruce was...somehow trying to protect Danny from their family's vigilante life by pushing him away but all that did was hurt Danny who was already hurting from being rejected by Jack and Maddie. Danny tells him off and as he's leaving, he comes across Damian who is like 11 or 12. He hugs Damian and after he leaves, Damian disapproves of Bruce's actions because he believes Danny is dying.
If you know of this, please send me a link?

corlys trying to name baela heir to driftmark is interesting, it shows his mindset i think, because considering baela is betrothed to jace, she wouldnt be able to be heir to driftmark even if she wanted to.
now that corlys has lost both his wife, brother and his own legitimate children, and lukes death left him without an heir, i wonder if him scrambling to pass driftmark to baela is suicidal ideation? i might be wrong but it almost looked like he was standing where they put the velaryons to rest? it would be easy to think he was grieving his family, also most likely thinking about how rhaenys wont ever join him and their children in the sea, but i also think it must have been him wanting to give up and join them early.
i do also love that rhaenyra told baela that she sees rhaenys in her, again proven by baelas "i am fire and blood" line and her talking about dying a dragonriders death like her mother and grandmother. i havent read the books but hopefully this means she might have given him some hope and reminded corlys why he sided with rhaenyra in the first place. which was because of rhaenys' words and his love for her and his grandaughters.

You mentioned the deal w seeds in the plane au — what IS the deal w seeds in this au, if you don’t mind me asking?? 👀
bwah okay its not that much different from canon. they were still a deep space colonization fleet but in this au their mission was technically a success
seeds established an research outpost on no mans land to study the planet and test it for potential permanent habitation in the future. basically the fall doesnt happen. or at least not when and how it does in canon
vash and nai were born when seeds began constructing proper long term facilities on the surface
2 years later the research facilities have turned into small cities, terraforming projects kicked into gear and a decent human population was slowly being woken up from cold sleep. the colonization mission for this fleet was deemed a success
the twins were part of a project testing independent plant capabilities and the utility potential of reality bending (the ability to both power and control machines and expanding the storage capacity of small fast aircraft for transportation efficiency), later named project gemini in their honor. during that time the jets g-01 and g-02 and their prototype engines were constructed
at some point nai found detailed info on the project and noticed the discrepancy in their unit numbers, their engines being numbered 02 and 03 in the blueprints. more digging led to the discovery of tesla and her fate as an integrated part of the fleets onboard ai, knives went mad and began plotting the downfall of humanity. over a few weeks he secretly gained control over the local aircraft fleet and one of the production lines and launched an assault on the main ships in orbit
the one man war against seeds (and poor vash, who was caught in the crossfire, not wanting to fight either of them and trying to stop them from fighting each other) lasts a few decades and only ceases when nai shoots his brother out of the sky by accident
by then little was left of the original seeds project, losing the battle in the end. the sky and desert are a graveyard of ships and aircraft a century later. most of humanity doesnt remember the project or know what happened. a majority of the population abandoned seeds and fled the facilities to establish their own settlements during the war
and thats the deal with seeds! i think? did it explain anything? i got so caught up in writing this that i wrote down some of the early plot dhgfjhdfg

For Leo: 9, 14, 22 and 23 👀
9. Are they also a healer/medic? What can they do if someone is hurt and needs assistance? Can they heal themselves? Do they have a plan for when they're injured?
I'm sure Leo knows basic Medical knowledge but in terms of magic noooot so much, He can like, in dire circumstances, feed someone his own life energy to keep them stable for a while. In terms of healing himself his reaper shroud can sustain him on ambient spectral magic but its very temporary as well.
14. Is there any particular quirk to their magic? Is there something they can't do with their magic that others usually can? Is there something they can do particularly well?
Leo is particularly good at communing with spirits! It is not common that a Necromancer is able to hear the ambient chatter of the deceased as well as he can, or even feel the low spectral energy they give off in the first place. His empathy and love for them travels around so he has a very symbiotic relationship where he is able to be empowered by spirits in a consensual give and take, after spending years helping them and managing to ease troubled ones so that they may finally move on. His reaper’s shroud is also unique but we’ll talk about that soon, next question, in fact!
22. What trait lines/specializations
Necromancer Reaper!
Leo primarily uses spectral energy as a necromancer, and is powered through a symbiotic relationship with spirits. His shroud is something that he canonically has, But the lore for its acquisition is a little bit of my own making!
In the personal story Leo went to investigate the Cathedral of Silence While the Pact Commander went to investigate the Map From Romke. He did so alone.
After communing with the seventh reaper and defeating the keeper of the shrine, Leo begs for any way, any power he could either Share or gain that would help in the battle against Zhaitan. The Reaper saw Leo's dedication, care, and love for spirits, he proposed a bargain: a pact with him would grant him access to the mists itself through a fusion of the Avatar and Leo himself, if only temporarily. It can heal him by soaking the ambient spectral magic that surrounds the area, grant him a deeper connection to the dead, and greatly empower him, at the cost of Leo becoming a protector of the Cathedral whenever he dies instead of naturally moving on in the cycle. This was a very big deal for Leo as he greatly upholds the natural cycle and wishes it for himself, but took the pact anyway, as any power that would save lives by ending threats such as Zhaitan was worth it even if it cost him something he held dear.
23. What utility skills do they tend to use? Is there any they can't use for lore reasons?
Leo primarily uses Spectral utility skills! And while there aren’t any he technically can’t use, there are some he avoids out of principle but I’ll answer that more in depth in a future ask!
Before we get into it, let me use this as an excuse to share what I consider Spectral magic to be as it ties in to why he does and doesn't use other forms of magic!
Spectral energy is described as an "Otherworldly" or "Ancient" form of energy, which had me decide that it is, of course, related to the mists. In fact, it IS the mists, at least, another variant of it.
Think of the mists' energy as a state of matter. Revenants can use/channel the mists in its most pure state and through the connection to their legends. Necromancers however (once attuned to the ambient form of this energy found in places with portals or otherwise entries where the mists leak into this world) can turn that energy into something more tangible, which is "Spectral." If the mists is water, revenants are able to Use that water directly, But Necromancers must turn the water into Ice to wield it, which is how you're able to have things like Spectral claws, spectral armor, Spectral weapons.
Spectral energy does exist "everywhere." Spectral energy can be attributed to spirits, ghosts, life itself. (Another reason I went with the idea that its related to the mists as the mists are the origin of all things.) But there may be places where its less apparent (Ascalon would be drenched in it, for example.) which could dampen a necromancer's well, but depending on experience they can find ways to draw spectral energy from things around them which can be exceptionally dangerous (similarly to blood benders in avatar drawing water from the plants but also killing them in the process.) Or they could have items which have already soaked so much of that energy they don't need to take such measures.
Now that’s been said, Leo has always had a unique affinity with spirits due to growing up in Ascalon and having a lot of emotions about the ghosts being trapped in an endless groundhog day unable to move on. Studying Necromancy and having access to a spectral-rich land like Ascalon meant he was able to attune to it from the get go, it was the most ready/powerful source of energy which meant he gained a lot of experience from it rather quickly. Spectral energy also just allows him to have a closer connection to spirits which is why he prefers it.
