Random Doctor Who Facts You Might Not Know, Part 12
A Class Two Intervention refers to the violation of Gallifreyan law resulting from a Time Lord setting themselves up as the God of another culture. The penalty for such an act is vaporization.
The Eighth Doctor has described his blood as "yummy" on several occasions.
The Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric once watched a play depicting how the First Doctor and Susan saved the planet Lemaria from the Megrati. The Fifth noticed that the actor playing the First was actually the Twelfth Doctor and then watched the Twelfth bluff the Megrati, thus preventing a second invasion.
After breaking her vortex manipulator and being it, a Time Agent in training named Keira Sanstrom tracked the Twelfth Doctor down to St. Luke's, dismantled Nardole, and kidnapped him to get her back to the planet Calandra.
Sarah Jane Smith caught the Black Death in London 1666.
The Fourth Doctor's body was once taken over by Rascla, and to defeat Rascla, he took over Sarah's mind. A brutal psychic battle ensued.
One time when the Fifth Doctor, Tegan, Nyssa, and Adric went grocery shopping, the Master trapped them in the store by turning it into a maze, but they were able to find their way out by marking their trail with frozen peas.
The Tenth Doctor claimed that he had never flown a hot air balloon before when he flew one in 1851. However, this is not the case as the Fifth Doctor has also done so, but because of the many times he had lost his memories since that day, he likely does not remember it.
The Eighth Doctor has a purple Volkswagen Beetle.
The Daleks celebrate "Extermination Day" every other day of their calendar.
The Sixth Doctor once briefly considered swapping his signature outfit for a Santa Claus suit.
While guarding the Pandorica, Rory faced off several times against Merlin, who was himself trying to get the Pandorica and had poisoned Lancelot, funded all sorts of plots, and cast spells on Camelot to do so. Unbeknownst to Rory, Merlin is an alias that the Doctor used.
The Doctor's real name is 38 syllables long and incredibly difficult for a human to pronounce.
Due to extensive manipulation of the Doctor’s biodata, all origin stories are paradoxically equally true.
It's thought to be impossible to lie under the Time Winds, so it is thus often used during interrogations on Gallifrey.
In the far future, an incarnation of the Doctor is the tyrannical supreme leader of the universe called the Emperor.
The Doctor has traveled with Iris Wildthyme before, essentially as her companion.
The Master remembers the Rock Monsters to be "orange scrotum monsters.

2023 BL Breakout Actors
I really hope to see more of these actors next year.
Tumblr media
Louis Chiang | Kiseki: Dear to Me
He played a tiny lovesick tyrant who pined for his childhood bff and fellow gang member. I could've watched an entire drama just about him and his journey from impulsive orphan thug to feisty romantic. He was simply electric.
Suggested Role: There's a sports trend in BL right now, and he's so good at the physicality of acting that I'd love to see him play a competitive professional tennis player who's conflicted when he's forced to partner with his nemesis.
Tumblr media
Lim Ji Sub | The Eighth Sense
He had to play such a heavy character -- a college student and surfer suffering from depression and survivor's guilt -- and his heartbreaking performance made you want to reach through the screen and give him a hug.
Suggested Role: South Korea does slice of life SO well that I'd really love to see him switch it up and pine for someone in a quasi comedic role. He could play a young real estate agent who starts to fall for one of his picky clients, and they learn together that the perfect home is one you make and not one you find.
Tumblr media
Film Thanapat Kawila | Laws of Attraction
I honestly did not enjoy this drama, but I did enjoy his performance. He is so captivating as Charn -- this scenery-chewing, maniacal, traumatized, good-boy-turned-bad lawyer -- that his romantic love interest could not manage to keep up.
Suggested Role: I dunno. I feel like I'd happily watch him play this role again, and take down another corrupt politician.
Tumblr media
An Jeong Gyun | Love Class 2
It's so easy to get lost in an anthology when there's three couples and when you're not traditionally attractive, but his character stole the whole damn series. He was so bold and upfront about his emotions in a mature and refreshing way that it made you ignore the beige flags of playful manipulation that comes with courtship, and root for him to win his crush's heart.
Suggested Role: He's actually older (30), and I appreciate that South Korea is exploring more love stories between older men as Thailand conquers the under 25 demo. So for him, I'd say a divorced storyline. Maybe explore the story of how two ex-husbands rebuild their lives apart and rediscover their friendship while they fall for other people.
Tumblr media
"Silvy" Pavida | The Warp Effect
Speaking of bloated casts, this series had like a million people in it playing characters of a variety of genders and sexualities, because it was intended to be -- in part -- a modern sex guide that pushed against traditional constructs. But in the midst of all that was a brief performance by Silvy, who was only tasked with playing an aspiring "plus size" actress, but managed to leave a lasting impression, making you want more.
Suggested Role: She's a singer and she's half-Italian. There's gotta be something we can do with that. Maybe the story of a shy singer, who is often hired to record tracks for rising tone-deaf artists, and is encouraged by one to make her debut as her opening act and help her write a romantic duet in Italian for her international audience.
***
Now...most of us agree that Step by Step was...not great. But it did have a lot of Thai actors that I hope to see again soon -- in an entirely different storyline far away from whatever the hell that was.
Tumblr media
"Saint" Paramee Matthanadul | Step by Step
Was his character a whiny little shit? Yes. Is he so gorgeous you almost forgot how hot his big brother was? Also, yes. The fandom was pissed his romantic subplot did not get a resolution, because there was so much he could've done with this character if given the opportunity.
Suggested Role: I think he has baby girl potential, so I really want to see him either play a spoiled mafia kid who falls for his mentor OR a rich kid pretending to be a working class waiter at the restaurant he owns, marinated in gay panic every time the head chef scolds him.
Tumblr media
Zorzo Nathanan Akkharakitwattanakul | Step by Step
I have yet to watch a proper GL series, but if she was starring in it, I'd clear my TV schedule. There's something so femme fatale about her and her features. She had no business stealing scenes from the nearly full cast of dudes, but she did. Every time.
Suggested Role: I really want to see her in a mystery produced by whoever is doing The Sign right now. Maybe she could play an undercover cop trying to solve a missing person's case in a small town, and her love interest is married to her prime suspect.
Tumblr media
"Ben" Bunyapol Likhitamnuayporn | Step by Step
Last, but not least, is the adorable Ben. Who, in spite of wasting our time with the most anticlimactic drama ending, played a character that was an inspiration to every office employee who has been dying to tell their ungrateful and abusive boss to step back and let a bitch cook. He played him with such naiveté and earnestness that it made you want more for his character than a lustful boss who struggled not to abuse his power.
Suggested Role: It's so easy for him to get sucked into passive roles opposite the zaddys of BL, so I'd like to see how he fairs against an equal. Maybe another workplace ensemble comedy where he plays a reporter posing as an intern at a new social media company run by an unhinged mogul spreading fake news, and falls for another intern who helps him take the company down.

Themes: friends to lovers, SLOW burn, ANGST, eventual smut, Austin x fem!oc, midsize oc, sad boi/addict aus, fluffy, semi-AU (indie actor austin)
Summary/Intro: Best friends since college, Austin and Elsie are each other's safety nets. Austin has secrets only Elsie knows, and Elsie has too many closet skeletons for Austin to count.
Austin battles internal demons since the death of his father, which caused a switch to flip that would change him forever. His father’s death happened 4 years ago but it still haunts him – in his mind and in little pills.
Elsie has a weakness for wicked, vile, abusive men. Her boyfriend, Nox, is the latest culprit. And Austin can’t fucking stand him.
Between trying to rescue each other and struggling to save themselves, is there something lying underneath?
18+ as this contains both smut & mature sensitive topics. Please check TWs for each chapter. General overarching warnings at the bottom of this post.
Since this is slow burn-ish so some themes/smut do not show up until later

Austin/Elvis yanked me from fanfic retirement so when I started writing FW, I fell in love with the characters & the storyline. I’m posting here so that maybe others can fall in love with them too.
I haven’t written in a while so sorry if it’s a little rusty, especially in the first couple chapters.
This post ended up being really long so sorry if it was a lot, thank you if you made it this far.
I hope you love it, please let me know if you do.

isaiah reference sheet! (finally). hes 5'1", his age slides between 15 and 25 when i write with him, hes gay, poly + trans, & hes from the fictional rural appalachain town of Jackalshide. hes a tattoo artist and occasional mechanic by trade (he built his motorcycle cherry from scratch! hes no good with anything else tho), and in some aus he has a crime-boy alter ego who goes by ruckus the kid.
backstory under the cut for anyone whos interested!
isaiah was born to melanie and elias richardson sometime in the nineties. they were a young couple, too young to really be married and having babies yet, and it leads to his mother dying in childbirth and his father spiraling thereafter. despite being a nasty drunk, hes the town deputy and is regularly shielded from consequence by his old highschool buddy, sheriff sullivan. their relationship lends to isaiah and the sheriffs boy, cam, having a longsuffering but close friendship, as well as covering for the cruelty elias shows his son.
isaiahs friendgroup otherwise consists of his bestie hunter reyes, tiny matthew riker who later grows up to be a gentle giant, and bette, a fellow trans man with a likewise trans masc twin. the four of them cause absolute havoc together, and are very close as kids. (close enough that riker and bette have an accidental teen pregnancy, leading to their daughter billie being born in their highschool years).
isaiah tends to burn hot as a teenager, putting all of his energy into starting fights at school (mostly with cam lol) or building his pet project motorcycle, cherry. hes a revolving door; in and out of every entry level job in jackalshide to pay for her parts, but the adhd in him and no small amount of input from hunter leads to losing every one of his jobs within the first few months.
it doesnt help that around his eighteenth birthday hes riding cherry down the desolate backroads and ends up t-boned in an otherwise empty intersection. it claims his leg, and the van that was responsible took off immediately- leaving isaiah to wallow under thousands in medical debt for all of the proceedings thereafter. (ambulance, emergency care, the multiple surgeries, physical and emotional therapy, mobility aids and prosthetics, fixing his bike...)
as they get older, hunters career as an actor picks up, leading him out to california fulltime. bette moves soon after, taking up animation in college out in cali with riker in tow a few years later so they can coparent billie. isaiahs the last to leave town and bitter over it, but he puts his nose to the grindstone and manages to get through an uneventful apprenticeship at a tattoo parlor in the nearest city.
with a solid job (finally), he moves into a little apartment of his own out there and puts most of his effort into paying down his deep medical debt. eventually with help from hunter (or, in some aus, riker or cam) isaiah moves out to join his friends in cali and finds himself a new parlor to work at, making enough to get his life truly started.
and thats it! anything beyond that really depends on the au! i tried to keep it a loose timeline, lord knows i could spend all day talking about every little part of his life. hope u enjoyed :)

For some reason I couldn’t send the link of this post but I could download the picture and send it (hopefully)
This is what I was references in that ask to you lol
Ah. And... yeah. A painful and unnecessary creative choice.
Look, overall I'm loving Picard, despite quite a few issues with some creative choices and contradictions, because this nostalgia is incredible and so appreciated and being able to witness these characters in action again has been WONDERFUL.
That being said... well, I'm about to launch into a ramble.
Buckle up, and keep reading if you'd like...
Picard had an ICONIC legacy female character in an interracial wlw relationship with a dynamic new Black female character -- both women over the age of 50 no less, an amazing thing to explore on screen -- and it worked. And so many fans loved it and felt represented and thrilled to kingdom come. And it fit with the Star Trek brand of inclusion and acceptance in a modern society. It also made Voyager fans of 25 years feel vindicated and seen, having Seven not only confirmed as sapphic, but actually exploring it on screen and finding love, even if a "happy ending" for Seven was never in the cards for many reasons, they could have explored why instead of just sweeping it under the rug off screen and reducing it to one awkward glance between them, a joke from Worf, and that was it. Seven and Raffi deserved better. Queer fans deserved better.
Alas, they tossed it in the trash for no valid reason at all, and at the worst possible time in our current social and political landscape of an outdated and frighteningly dangerous resurgence of homophobia, transphobia, etc. Life imitates art, and art imitates life. And thus, now we see conservative-run media companies catering again to the vocal, hateful little groups and extremist far right fear mongers. There is a very obvious bias of late again against LGBTQ content (especially wlw due to the frightening rise in misogyny yet again lately) across nearly every channel and streamer and studio.
For that matter, even beyond LGBTQ stories, there's also a significant reduction in the exploration of ANY sexuality on screen across the board lately, even for cishet couples. We somehow went from Hollywood being absurdly and unfairly exploitive towards women and putting actors in uncomfortable and unnecessary situations, to some sort of bizarre, puritanical, utterly sexless exploration of romance on screen. And even a reduction of romance entirely in many cases, for that matter. We went from one extreme to the other, and it's absolutely nuts.
Anyway, back on the topic of Picard, the two actresses who previously were captains of the ship and ALL about the pairing have since seemingly now had to backtrack, make excuses for this bizarre decision, or just not speak on it at all. And that's beyond sad.
And again, it makes me concerned that if Seven does get her own spin-off or is a part of a new spin-off again, they'd likely not include Raffi nor explore Seven being with women further. Which would just be LITERALLY going backwards in time to the days of Voyager where many (not all) straight male fans tried to claim her as theirs and theirs alone while reducing her to just "the hot Borg in a cat suit" even though everyone else knew she was three dimensional as hell, one of the best written and acted characters in franchise history, and inherently representative of the LGBTQ community.
Anyway, I really really hope they prove me wrong and Saffi get a satisfying ending in this show, and if nothing else, even if they don't have a future together in other series, any other shows at least continue to embrace Seven's pansexuality. It's important.
Alas right now my trust in creatives in the TV space who are under the pressures of conservative-run media conglomerates... is limited. Even once seeming allies are showing sides to themselves lately that are... concerning, to say the least. People who previously would tell incels to F' off, and weren't afraid to stand up to and block phobes on Twitter are now blocking queer fans for just asking "WTF?" about queer favorites being sidelined or ships being tossed in the trash. People who previously seemed to truly see and value queer fans are now bordering on just using them for clicks and stringing them along on likely hopeless efforts regarding show survival. And people who actually do mean well and usually stand up loud and strong for LGBTQ audiences are suddenly growing very, very quiet if not even in some cases TURNING on their queer fans entirely as TPTB remove more and more wlw content from airwaves and streamer services.
It's all very disheartening. As a writer who has had this conversation so often with producers and executives, I GET IT. The fight is NOT an easy one. And most the time inclusion efforts are flat out shot down. But it feels like so few people are walking the talk anymore. People who capitalized heavily on LGBTQ characters and ships and fans for a few years when it was hot are now turning their backs when the going has gotten rough. And that's frustrating for us all.
But, the good news: these things are often cyclical. So if everybody can hang in there, stay strong, and fight the good fight online and IRL, rock the VOTE, etc and drown out the hateful voices that want the LGBTQ community silenced or worse, then I believe we can set (or force, in many cases) the misguided, fearful, extremist-rightwing-catering media companies back to the proper side of history.

Bam’s 25 in this
Masterlist
You stared at the ceiling, a frown on your face that seemed to be a permanent feature the last few weeks. A sigh of annoyance left your lips and you refrained from rolling your eyes at the loud, and quite obnoxious snoring, that came from the man beside you.
You didn’t know him. You didn’t even remember his name.
He was just some guy you brought home from the bar.
Just another hopeless distraction from the guy you actually want.
-
You can’t remember the last time you felt this satisfied. You felt high, despite not touching a cigarette a day in your life, you felt as though you were in the clouds. It was the feeling that, no matter what, always came from Bam. Whether he was hovering over you, in you, or under you, he never failed to make you see stars. It was no surprise that you stopped your player ways and began dating him. He was the best you’d ever had.
Bam, too, stopped his player ways committed to you. You could only assume he felt the same way about you as the words he’d say were nothing short of praises and borderline promises.
Like what he’s saying now, as he composes himself while holding himself up. He leaned down and pressed a hot kiss to your mouth, trailing his lips down your neck once you broke away to let out a string of moans. “I love the way you feel,” he mumbles against your skin while grinding his hips into yours. “Always so good.”
“Please, don’t stop,” you nearly cried out, wanting nothing more than to feel this way for the rest of your life.
He had no plans of stopping, but your words made him want to please you forever. “I’m never getting over this,” he says, feeling the familiar warmth in his lower body begin to creep up. “Never letting you go. Never gonna let you leave me.”
One would think he’d feel the same way you do, right?
-
It was a quiet day as both you and Bam had the day off. You were watching some random show on the TV, laying on the couch with Bam laying on your lower half. His back was pressed to your lower stomach and his arms rested on your legs. It was a position that you two often found yourselves in.
You absentmindedly played with his hair, your eyes on the screen but you wouldn’t say you were watching what was playing.
No, instead you were having an inner battle with yourself. It was September 23rd and your lips turned upwards when you realized what day it was. “Hey,” you whisper and gently scratch his scalp in an attempt to get him to look at you.
“What?” He asked and turned his head to look up at you.
“Guess what?” You asked and he raised his brows, giving you his full attention. “We’ve been together for seven months as of today.” You watch as he fights off a smile and shakes his head.
  “Wow,”
  “Happy seven months,” you grin.
Bam doesn’t say anything as he moves up your body and presses a quick kiss to your lips. He positioned himself so his front was pressed to yours and his head rested on your chest.
You could stay like this forever.
  You loved him.
“Bam,” you say and resume messing around with his hair. He hummed in response, his eyes on the TV. Here goes nothing and everything. “I love you.”
It was as if the whole atmosphere changed and you could feel dread seeping into your skin.
You knew then that you had massively fucked up.
Bam slowly lifted his head and looked over at you, an emotion you couldn’t quite recognize on his features. “What?”
You felt confused and quite honestly embarrassed. Had you completely gotten the wrong message? Did you just fuck up the best thing in your life? “I love you,” you say again. “I want us to be together…..forever.”
The entire room became quiet. It even felt as though the actors on the TV fell silent as Bam lifted himself off you. He sat there, looking at the floor for a few minutes and you wanted to curl in on yourself. “I think it’s best if we end this,”
At his words, you felt your heart fall into the pit of your stomach. “What?”
“We need to end this,” he says again, this time more sternly. “Before things become something they’re not.”
“What are you talking about?” You asked and sat up, reaching for his hand and not bothering to hide the look of hurt on your face when he pulled away from you. “I’m sorry if I was too forward but I just thought you felt the same way.”
“I don’t,” his words were nothing short of harsh and you felt sick when you realized just how much you fucked things up. “I think you should go.”
“Bam, we can talk about this-”
“Leave, Y/n,” he snapped and stood up. “Just..just go home. This is over.” Without another word, he turned and disappeared up the stairs, leaving you to sit there in tears. You reach over and grab your jacket from off the back of the couch, squeezing the fabric in your hands as you stand, tears falling freely down your face.
Before you could embarrass yourself even further, you quickly walk over to the front door, pulling it open and fleeing from the house you no longer felt welcome in.
-
A few days have gone by since Bam humiliated you at his house and left you to drive home, alone, in tears. Your steps were clumsy as you stumbled your way down the familiar path to Bam’s house.
It was a normal day for you at first. You woke up alone, instead of with Bam, and cursed at yourself for confessing your love to him. Had you kept your mouth shut for a few more months, maybe he would have grown to feel the same way you did.
As you headed for your bathroom to shower, your eyes caught sight of the calendar pinned to your wall, today’s date seeming to be the only thing you could read.
  September 28th.
  Fuck.
It didn’t help that you had sloppily written ‘BAM’S B-DAY <3’ in bolded sharpie when you flipped the calendar into the month of September a few weeks prior.
It was a normal day, until it wasn’t anymore.
No. Today was his day. And he was spending it without you.
  And it was your fault.
This was why you don’t let yourself be close to one person. Had you not settled down with Bam, you wouldn’t be feeling like absolute shit.
Instead of showering, you got dressed and immediately headed for the nearest bar, not caring that it was nearing ten in the morning. You needed to forget him today. Alcohol would help.
-
  It didn’t.
Instead of forgetting him, your mind was flooded with images of what you did on this day last year. You and Bam had barely been dating a week but you both acted as if you had been dating for years. You started the day by waking him up with you under the covers, then letting him take you to spend the entire day at the skatepark, where you ended the night on top of him in a secluded area with nothing but satisfaction filling your every sense.
So different from how you’re spending it this year.
Your eyes landed on the clock that was on the wall behind the bar, the time reading 9:56. You had, quite literally, spent your entire day attempting to drink away the memories you shared with Bam but ultimately ended up feeling worse than before. You tossed a bit of cash onto the bar counter before stumbling out of the door and to where you were currently.
A few minutes passed and you found yourself raising your hand to knock on the door of his house, a pathetic apology on your lips. Seconds pass before the door opens and reveals the man you grew to love three months into your seven month relationship.
“Bam,” you slurred, feeling your eyes already begin to sting at the sight of seeing him again. “I’m sorry.”
“Y/n?” He asked and caught you before you could fall. “What are you doing here?”
His hands on you sent fire through your veins and you gripped his arms, squeezing them as tears began to fall. “I’m sorry, I’m an idiot,” you rambled. “I’m such a fucking idiot and I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for fucking us up.
Bam sighed as he stepped away from you. “Y/n,” he said. “You need to go home-”
“I miss you so much, and I need you,” your words were slurred and your eyesight began to blur but you went on. “I need you so much and I know you need me too, so let’s just forget what I said, okay? I didn’t know what the fuck I was talking about but I just need you right now, please. Please, let's just go back to how we were, I-”
A figure stepped into frame, half of her body behind Bam while she peered over his shoulder at you. The words were completely ripped from your mouth as you took in the girl before you. She was stunning, blonde, skinny and her manicured hand on Bam’s bicep had you holding back all the drinks you had consumed today.
“Hi,” her voice was friendly and if it weren’t for her outfit choice leaving you speechless, you might have said hi back. She wore a baby blue bra and matching underwear, Bam’s long cardigan thrown loosely over her shoulders.
  Now you really feel sick.
“Are you okay, honey?” Her sweet voice asked. “You don’t look too good.”
You stumbled back and tried to blink away the endless stream of tears falling from your eyes. How had he moved on so quickly? Had you seriously meant absolutely nothing to him? You loved him, showed it in everything you did for him and when you told him he acted as if it was the craziest thing he’d ever heard.
“Y/n,” he started to say but you shook your head and stepped away from him.
Fuck him.
With one final glance at the guy you were over the moon for and his new girl, you turned around. “Fuck you both,”
-
And that’s how you found yourself beside some random guy the next day. The sight of Bam with someone else sobered you up almost immediately and you went back to the bar, found the first decent looking guy and took him back to your house.
It was a bit of a waste as the guy failed to get you to the point of ecstasy and he even failed to get you turned on. It wasn’t his fault, not really. Seven months with Bam had seemed to completely change and raise your standards to a point only he could reach. So, it wasn’t this guy’s fault that he wasn’t Bam.
You woke up the next day and saw that the man you took to bed had left at some point. You didn’t feel the sinking feeling you normally get when you woke up and Bam was nowhere to be found. You were almost relieved that you didn’t have to kick him out now.
  He wasn’t Bam.
When you were in the shower and washing off the mess the guy left on you, you felt the burning of need in your lower abdomen. You slipped your hand down your body, needing something to forget about how unsatisfied you were last night. But, as you did the things you usually did to get yourself off, nothing seemed to be doing the trick.
With a frustrated sigh and a borderline groan of annoyance, you lift your hand up and tug on your hair in frustration. No one could please you like he could.
  Not even yourself anymore.
-
Bam had never been this pissed off. He was frustrated, sexually, and the girl currently on her knees in front of him was not helping in the slightest. She was touching him, both with her hands and mouth, but he still felt tremendously unhappy.
  And it was his fault.
He wasn’t getting off anytime soon, but the girl who was going down on him didn’t seem to realize that as she quickly bobbed her head. Bam tried, he really did. But there was no way this girl would be able to get him to the edge, not like you could.
He sat up on the couch and gently pushed her away from him, zipping up his pants when she leaned back on her knees. “Sorry,” he mumbled and tugged at his hair, taking a minute to beat himself up mentally.
“It’s okay,” the girl, whose name he couldn’t remember, said and ran her hands up his thighs. “You’re just not turned on enough yet. I can help with that.” She began to tug her shirt off but stopped when Bam shook his head.
“I’m not turned on at all, actually,” Bam said and the girl looked at him in shock. He was brutally honest. Had he not met you and had you to himself for seven months, maybe this girl in front of him would be able to get him off. But not anymore.
Not when he had all he needed just a few weeks ago and fucked it up because he was an idiot at times.
“I’m sorry,” he said again and gently ran his thumb over her cheekbone before standing up. “I think you should go home. Sorry for wasting your time.” And with that he left the room and began his journey upstairs, leaving the girl in his living room, much like he did with you. Except, this time, the girl left with a dry face and an annoyed expression, very different to how you left a couple of weeks ago with a tear stained face and a heartbroken look.
-
  October 17th.
It was your close friend, Johnny’s, wedding day. You now had a bittersweet friendship with him, bitter because he was the one who introduced you to Bam, and sweet because he was there for you during the many weeks you were upset after Bam broke up with you.
You knew about this day for months now. Bam had asked you to be his date back in May. If only you hadn’t told him you loved him, maybe you wouldn’t be sitting here, with Dunn and Ehren beside you, knowing that you’d have no one to spend the rest of the night with after the ceremony.
The place was beautifully decorated. It was being held in a big room, white ribbons with baby blue flowers scattered everywhere. It was traditional, something you couldn’t see yourself doing for your possible future wedding. You preferred dark reds and ultra violets, but this felt like something Johnny would have during his big day, and the thought had you smiling.
While you waited for it to start, Dunn gently nudged you, leaning in so only you could hear him. “How are you doing?”
Ryan was Bam’s best friend. You had hung out with him at least once a week when you were dating Bam, but since you broke up you haven’t seen much of him. It was sad. You considered Ryan a friend and when you lost Bam you also lost him in a way. “I’m okay,”
Ryan gives you a look that says none other than bullshit and you look away from him. He didn’t understand why Bam broke up with you and he doesn't think he ever will. He spent countless nights with Bam, listening to him talk on and on about how you were the best thing in his life and how he could see himself marrying you one day. You two seemed extremely serious, so why did he freak out when it was obvious to everyone that he felt the exact same way you did? “Really? Y/n-”
“I’m fine,” you say and give him a forced smile. “Really.”
The conversation stopped there as music began to play. You look over at Johnny and see him starting to get fidgety. It was understandable. Marriage was the biggest thing to come from a relationship, with the exception of a baby.
Everyone stood up, their eyes looking to the back of the room as they waited for the first pair to come out.
First to come out was Steveo and one of Sarah’s (Johnny’s bride) friends. Their arms were linked as they walked down the aisle. Steveo looked nice, he cleaned up well for his best friend's big day and you felt yourself start to smile, genuinely this time. You truly were so happy for your friend for finding the person he wanted for the rest of his life.
That smile, however, left your lips the second the next pair of people walked into the room. Bam looked as handsome as ever in his black tux, his arm linked with another one of Sarah’s friends, as they walked on the white rose petals that covered the aisle. Bam’s eyes found yours within seconds and your heart dropped as you looked away and back to the front. You were sitting on Johnny’s side of the room, so Bam had a nearly crystal clear line of sight of you as he stood at the front of the room beside Steveo.
You could only bring yourself to glance at him every now and then, each time finding him looking at you already. The soon to be newlyweds exchanged their vows and you had to blink back tears at Sarah’s words. The way she described her love for Johnny was the exact way you felt about his groomsmen. Ryan gently placed his hand on your thigh and you gave him a reassured smile, standing up alongside him to clap as the new spouses shared their first kiss as husband and wife.
As the couple walked back up the aisle, hand in hand, you allowed yourself to look over at Bam. He was still standing beside Steveo, but he looked as if he was losing a mental battle he was having with himself. Before he could look over at you, the girl he walked down the aisle with came over and linked their arms once more before following Johnny and Sarah back up the aisle with Steveo and his wedding partner behind them.
You looked away once he was out of the room and allowed yourself to be escorted into the party room by Dunn. There, you took your seat next to Pontius and a girl named Talia. Dunn walked to his seat that was across the room and next to Bam. Johnny had told you a few days prior that he made sure your seat was no longer next to Bam’s as he didn’t want you to feel uncomfortable for a night he wouldn't be next to you for.
Speaking of Johnny, he made his way over to your table with Sarah next to him. You stood up and let Johnny wrap his arms around you. “Congratulations, Knox,” you say and rest your head against his chest while hugging him.
“Thank you for coming,” he said and kissed the top of your head when he pulled away.
You moved to hug Sarah, resting your chin on her shoulder. “You look so beautiful,” you say and she laughs.
“Thank you,” she says in her sweet, welcoming voice. You looked up and saw Bam next to Dunn. His eyes were on you while Dunn was talking to Steveo and for once, he looked like the odd one out. “So do you.”
You tore your eyes away from your ex and gave Sarah your (nearly) full attention. You wore a simple, ashy blue dress that fell just above your knees and your hair was down and wavy, a few pieces being pinned back. This was only your second wedding you’d been invited to, so you still weren’t quite sure how to dress for these occasions.
The night went on and Pontius, despite not being a close friend of yours (but still a friend, nonetheless), did a hell of a good job getting your mind off Bam. He joked on and off with you for hours, let you drink out of his champagne glass, gave you his bun from dinner he didn’t want and even asked you to dance with him.
Once Johnny and Sarah got their big couple dance over with, Chris stood up and extended his hand to you. You took it, more than grateful for his surprisingly gentle manners and stood up with him, letting him guide you over to where there was empty space. Johnny and Sarah were still dancing while Steveo took the hand of his date, Emily, and too, started to dance to the slow song.
You had noticed that Dunn was dancing with the girl that Bam walked down the aisle with. She seemed happier with the bubbly, more approachable guy and Dunn also seemed to be happy, too. Pontius wrapped his arms around your waist, while yours went around his neck, and he began to sway the two of you, moving at a much faster pace than those around you. You laughed at the scene he was making, hiding your face in his chest as the two of you danced a bit too fast to a slow song.
A few minutes passed and your head was still resting against Chris’ chest, your eyes closed as you let yourself feel content for the first time that night. Chris had actually begun to properly slow dance with you, his one hand on your waist while his other held yours. A few more seconds passed before Pontius stepped away from you. “I’ll be right back,” he said and you nodded, turning to look at the many couples still slow dancing together.
You hadn’t meant to, but you couldn’t help but notice that Bam was no longer sitting at his table. You actually didn’t know where he was.
  Until you did.
You felt someone looking at you and when you turned to your left, that was when you saw him. He was standing a few feet away from you, his blazer off and tie loose. You kept your eyes on him as he slowly approached you. “Hi,”
The sound of his voice had you looking away from him. It was too soon.
  “Can we talk?”
“Do we have to?” You were surprised at how strong you sounded despite feeling the stinging of tears behind your eyes.
“I guess not,” he said and stepped a bit closer to you. "Do you want to dance?”
The way he held his hand out to you made you bite the inside of your cheek, debating whether to take it or take off running. You weren’t a coward. At least not completely.
So, you took his hand. You let him wrap his arms around your waist and pull you completely against him, his nose burying into your hair. Your arms were around his neck, your fingers playing with each other where they met as your nerves got the better of you.
To anyone who didn’t know the pair of you would think that you two were 100% together, but it was the exact opposite.
Your eyes caught Johnny’s and he gives you a concerned look. You just smile at him before pushing your face into Bam’s neck. This would most likely be the last time you would ever be this close to him, and it was a better ending than the last one.
You would, eventually, be okay if this was the official end to what you and Bam had.
The thought that things ended with you sobbing and him being so cold was not the ending you wanted to remember. It was this one. Embracing each other at the wedding of a close friend to you both.
“I'm getting over you,” you tell him quietly and feel goosebumps spread on his skin. You expected him to be happy to hear that, if his words and actions from last month were anything to go by.
“Please, don't,” he said back and you pulled back slightly to look at him.
  “What?”
“I don’t want you to,” he says and your brows furrow. “I don’t want you to get over me.”
This was not how this was supposed to go. You were supposed to just have this final moment with him to put your heart at ease. Why was he trying to hurt you again?
This wasn’t fair. “Why not?” You ask, a firmness to your words and you look down at the floor, keeping your hands on his shoulders.
“Because,” he said, his arms tightening around your waist. “I need you. I need you in my life.”
He brought his lips to the side of your head, close to your ear and you squeezed your eyes shut. Why was he doing this to you?
“I’m sorry. Take me back, please,” he nearly whimpered and if you weren’t completely confused, you’d have melted at his words. “I need you, baby, I’m sorry. I love you.”
Your breath hitched and you stepped away from him. He didn’t let you go far as his hands stayed glued to your waist. “Why are you doing this?”
  He loved you?
No, he couldn’t. How could he love you now when you spent weeks apart at this point? Was he trying to hurt you even further? Embarrass you?
“You don't love me,” you say. “You broke up with me because you didn’t love me back. Please, stop. Don’t lie to me.”
When you stepped away from him completely, Bam started to panic. “I’m not lying, I swear,” he said.
With the newly created distance between the two of you, you were able to think a bit clearer. “Why are you telling me this now?” You ask after a few seconds.
“Because it’s true,” the way he said it, with such sincerity, had you almost believing him. Almost.
“It’s too late,” you say quietly, refusing to meet his eyes as you backed away from him. “You’re too late.”
“What?” He asked with a hint of horror to his tone.
“Why didn’t you tell me this weeks ago? I would’ve fallen to my knees for you a couple of weeks ago,” you hold back a dry sob. “Why are you telling me this now?”
  “Because I’m an idiot,”
“Why make me suffer just because you’re an idiot?”
“I don’t know,” he said quietly and he was glad his back was to the crowd of people so no one, other than you, saw him being this vulnerable. “I’m so fucking sorry, just please. Let’s go back to how we were. Let’s go back to being us.”
Him repeating your words from a few weeks prior had your eyes stinging once more and you leaned over and grabbed your purse that was hanging off the back of your chair. “We can’t,” you simply whisper and turn around, making a beeline for the doors.
Bam watched as you left, a nearly unbearable sinking feeling in his chest. He felt a hand on his shoulder and he didn’t have to turn around to know who it was. “I’m sorry, buddy,” Knoxville's voice said from behind him. “It’s over. You have to let her go.”
His words weren’t harsh, they were just the harsh truth. And if Bam had ever been good at one thing, it was ignoring what those around him had to say. “No,” he said and began to walk in the direction you took off in. “It’s not.”
-
The venue for the wedding was a walking distance from where you lived, an eight minute walk to be exact. The wedding was pretty much over, but you still felt a bit bad for leaving early and without saying goodbye. You just couldn’t be in that room, with Bam, for any longer.
“Y/n,” you hear and stop dead in your tracks. You slowly turn around and see Bam. He was standing a few feet away, under the glow of the streetlight, and looked as broken as ever.
You turned back around and began to walk quicker. His footsteps were loud and fast, faster than yours, so without really thinking much, you took off running. You glance over your shoulder and see him running after you and the sight makes you pick up your speed, making an eight minute walk a three minute run.
You burst through your front door, letting it smack against the wall beside it and bolted into your room, slamming and locking the door behind you.
Since you had failed to lock the front door, or even close the stupid thing, Bam easily slipped through it and stood outside your bedroom door, his forehead resting against it. “Y/n,” he breathed out, a bit exhausted from his unexpected run. “Please, don’t do this.”
“I didn’t do anything,” you say back from behind the closed door. “You broke up with me.”
“I know, I know,” he sounded so desperate. “Fuck, I know, but please open the door. I love you.”
His words caused you to squeeze your eyes tightly. “I don’t believe you,”
“What can I do to make you believe me?” He asked and pressed his hand against the wood. “Tell me and I’ll do it. I’ll prove it, just, please.”
You’d never heard him sound so fucked up and broken during the nearly nine months you’ve known him. Maybe he was telling you the truth. Why else had he run after you? Why was he trying so hard now if he didn’t feel the same way you did?
Slowly, you reached up and turned the lock. Bam heard the click and knew you had unlocked it but he made no move to open the door and enter your room. Instead, he kept his head and hand pressed against it and waited for you to do something, anything, that showed him you wanted him again.
“This can’t be like last time,” you say quietly. “We have to talk like normal people do. I can’t go through this again, I won’t.”
“It’ll be different, I promise,” he said quickly. “I won’t ever hurt you again, I swear to you. Fuck, just please, take me back.”
You wait a few more minutes, most likely torturing the man outside your door, before turning the knob and opening the door. The second you came into view, Bam immediately wrapped his arms around you, his lips capturing yours in a desperate and heated kiss.
“I’m sorry,” he says in between kisses. “I’m such a fucking idiot. I’m so sorry.” Your hands gripped his shoulders, moving up to tug on his hair.
You felt like you were dreaming and if it weren’t for the burning feeling running through your bones, you were sure you were dreaming this.
You pulled away and gently placed your hand on his face. “I love you,” you say and knew that this time you said that to him, it would be a different outcome than last. He proved you right.
“I love you so fucking much,” he said before kissing you again, this time with no intention to stop.

A Lark Among the Wolves and Dragons: Chapter 25
Chapter 24
Masterlist
By order of the queen, the boy Ivan, after his injured ankle was treated by one of the maesters, was escorted by servants to a room which contained a tub filled with hot water. Viserys had decided the boy would be a companion to the princes, but since Aegon, Aemond, and Jace were still in trouble for sneaking out of the keep and the events that followed, Alicent had decided Ivan would work in the kitchens for the time being. Ivan would also be given a separate room that differed from the servants' quarters.
"Are you literate, Ivan?" the queen had asked of him. "I can read somewhat," Ivan nods, "my mother taught me." Alicent nodded, and left the room so as to give the boy some privacy to bathe. A couple of servants had come in with soap, towels, and a change of clothes that were deemed more suitable for Ivan's new station. Ivan didn't begin to undress until he was completely alone. He didn't even take off his hat. When he was in the tub, he washed as quickly as he could in case anyone tried to come in during his bath. He scrubbed vigorously and quickly got out, dried himself, and put on his new clothes. He wanted to put his hat back on, but had a feeling it wouldn't be appropriate with his new ensemble.  He looked around and noticed the curtains by the window. The material was thick enough to cover his ears at least.
Ivan took a risk and tore some of the material and fashioned it into a headband to cover the tips of his ears. If anyone came to draw the curtains and noticed the tear, he would claim coincidence should they point out his headband. If that didn't work, he would claim he had a hideous scar that required him to hide it from others. The servants would surely understand as if there was one thing they knew about nobles, was that they preferred to cover their physical flaws rather than show them off.
Meanwhile, Aemma was confined to her room, as were Aegon, Aemond, and Jaecerys. Alicent was understandably furious at the children's misjudgement, mostly at Aegon for putting his brother and future queen at risk, and at Aemma for disobeying her. Since Viserys had left the disciplining up to his wife, Alicent had decided the children would be confined to their rooms for the next two weeks to contemplate what they have done, only to leave for lessons and to partake in their meals, in which they would be escorted by Ser Criston or any of the guards under his command. If it were fully up to Alicent, though, she would've had the children confined for a full month, except for Aemond who would've only be punished for a week. Rhaenyra however had felt Aegon should've been confined for two months due to putting Jace at risk with his vodka and that Jace should not be punished as she saw her son as the victim in Aemma and the boys' misadventure. In the end, Viserys grew tired of his wife's and daughter's bickering and had them compromise as a result.
During this time, an investigation was also held concerning the Velen merchant. His ship and goods were seized and people at the docks were thoroughly question. Upon further inspection, and learning that many of these goods were brought in from Novigrad, letters were sent to the authorities with the merchant's name. When correspondence came back, it was learned this merchant was wanted in both Redania and Temeria for illegal shipments of various contraband which included trafficking of fisshtech. There did not seem to be much concern, however, over the enslavement of the elven women as for the fact that elves on the Continent are seen as less then, the merchant also claimed these she-elves were once part of the Scoia'tel and would've been raped and executed anyway if they were handed over to the Nordling soldiers. There were questions over whether the human actors were there against their will, but this did not seem to be the case.
When the merchant was interrogated in the dungeons, he confessed in tears of his crimes. The man apparently had come on hard times due to losing money to excess gambling. He had been in crippling debt and owed money to several banks, he needed to find a way to pay off his debt and still make ends meet. In addition, the merchant had begged that if he were to be tried and judged, then he would prefer Westerosi justice over Redanian or Temerian. Viserys ultimately had the man deported back to Temeria; seeing that the merchant is Temerian and that he was a wanted man there, it seemed fitting that he should be tried in his own native country. All this to the dismay of the merchant.
As for the merchant's supposed accomplices, the ones who knew of the merchant's shady side business were also deported back to Temeria. The elven women were given a chance to start a new life in King's Landing, but if elves had a rough time on the Continent, it was doubly so in Westeros, given that most of these people have never even seen elf or probably even know what an elf was. Needless to say, the pointed ears were very off-putting to the locals, and the most the elven women could do was either be hired as laundresses in Flea Bottom, or work in that one exotic pillow house on the Street of Silk. In the end, the elves elected to return to the Continent by ship and make the long trek to Dol Blathana where they would be granted asylum there.
Anyway, back to the main plot line.
During the children's punishment, Aemma kept busy with her books, though she had regrettably dropped the book she purchased back at the docks, the one that was going to teach her Elder speech. When servants came to bring her tea, one of them handed her a book, "from Prince Aemond, my princess." Aemma recognized the book right away, grateful that Aemond was able to save this for her. She quickly wrote a note thanking her cousin, and had the servant send it to him. When the prince in question received the note, he had a smile on his face, happy that his cousin received the book. He could only imagine the look on Aemma's face, excited that she was going  to learn how to speak elven. Aemond, meanwhile read the book he bought for himself, the one on the teachings on the Eternal Fire. Also fortunately for Aemond, Alicent had copies of the Seven Pointed Star send to each of the children's room so as to further contemplate on their wrongdoings. For Aemond, he saw this as an opportunity to conduct that comparative study he wanted to do between the two faiths. As for the other two boys, Jace had regular visits from Luke, Laenor, and Rhaenyra and Aegon had his explicit pamphlets to keep him company. Worth mentioning Aegon's average number of jerk off times during those two weeks was about 12 times per day (this was also when Aegon discovered the euphoria of jerking himself to the wind while standing out the window).
When the two weeks of this strict punishment was concluded, Aemma and the boys were allowed out of their rooms and first thing Aemma was did was run to the dragon pit to go for a ride on Cirillia, who was more then eager to get outside and stretch her wings. During that time, Helaena was out flying on Dreamfyre, and the girl was more then happy to see Aemma out as a free princess. The two even had a little race across the skies.
Also once the boys were allowed to leave their rooms, Ivan was taken out of the kitchens to fulfill his new role. The princes were a little apprehensive about Ivan at first, even little Luke when he was first introduced.
This was especially when they all took notice of the headband Ivan was sporting. "What's with the headband?" Aegon scoffs. "I have a scar," Ivan tries to explain, "it's...very disfiguring, I wouldn't want to offend the princes' sensitivities. Or the princess' either," he nods towards Aemma and Helaena, whom at that moment were enjoying some fresh air while practicing their embroidery. "It can't be that hideous," Aegon scoffs again, actually reaching a hand out to pull at the scarf, but Ivan back away. "You know, Ivan, as a prince, I could command you to take it off so I may see for myself," Aegon points out. "Aegon," Aemma, who had rushed over when she saw Aegon harassing Ivan, scolds, "he clearly doesn't want to, there's no need to goad him." "Oh, you're not all that curious as to what he is hiding?" "Even if I am, it's none of our business," Aemma huffs, "not unless he wants to tell us."
Aegon only shook his head, turned and left. "I apologize for my cousin," Aemma says to Ivan, "he's...not all that tactful with his words." "He is rather bold, I'll give him that," Ivan mutters. "You can be honest with me, Ivan," Aemma assures, "I won't tell." "Alright," Ivan says, "your cousin is a bit of an ass." Aemma laughed out loud at that statement, which made Ivan laugh too. "Yeah he kind of is," she agrees, "and lucky me, I'll have to marry him someday." "You're...to marry Prince Aegon?" Ivan's eyes widen. "Unfortunately so," Aemma sighs, "We had been betrothed since we were mere tots. But it won't be until after a while anyway, at least not until after my uh, first flowering." "Still, my condolences," Ivan says. "I'll be fine, I can handle myself against Aegon if I have to," Aemma assures.
"So, you're from the Continent," Aemma changes the subject. "From Aedirn, princess," Ivan nods. "Do you remember anything about that place?" "Not much, if I'm being honest," Ivan admits, "I was still a child when mother and I left. It was a small fishing village, that much I do remember. Called Flotsam." "Strange name," Aemma says, "will you walk with me, Ivan? I wish to know more." Throughout that day, Aemma asked questions and Ivan answered as best he could, the two making small talk in between.
"You really seem rather fascinated with this Continental stuff," Ivan points out, "Why is that so?" Before Aemma could answer, she hears her name being called out by Aemond who moved in between her and Ivan, "mother is looking for you," he tells her, making Aemma widen her eyes, "oh, I uh, I better go then. Don't want to keep her Grace waiting again." "I'll walk with you," Ivan answers. "I can escort the princess," Aemond insists, giving Ivan a rather threatening look, which didn't really feel all that threatening given the prince's age. Ivan backed away nevertheless, "I guess I will see you again sometime soon, princess."
"You didn't need to be so rude towards Ivan," Aemma scolds as she and Aemond walk back to the keep. Aemond only scoffs at that, "you shouldn't be so trusting with that...stranger," he says. "He's not a stranger," Aemma insists, "not anymore. And he did save my life. He's been living on the streets since his mother died and they both were practically refugees given what they went through in their village-" "How do you even know he was telling the truth?" Aemond points out, "Aemma, you don't even know who Ivan really is, even if he did risk his life to save yours." "...ugh, you're not actually siding with Aegon about that are you?" Aemma rolls her eyes, "the scar he hides behind his headband?" "I don't agree about that," Aemond assures, "but Aegon is on to something about Ivan hiding something. I'm...if he is, I just don't want you getting hurt."
Aemma placed a hand on Aemond's shoulder, "you don't have to worry about me, Aemond. I can handle myself. I won't fall apart so easily. I am to wed Aegon someday soon after all." Aemond was still reluctant, but nodded. Truthfully, while Aemond did have some misgivings about Ivan, the prince also wasn't all that comfortable with how close Aemma had gotten with the boy. It made him feel things he didn't really like.
Aemond and Aemma met up with Alicent, who gave Aemma several letters. The princess accepted the letters and read them in silence. It was from her family: her father, stepmother, and a letter that was written by both of her sisters.
Daemon, Laena, and the twins had spent some time traveling in different places on Essos, and now they were actually on the Continent, in the kingdom of Redanian to be exact. The family had been greeted and hosted by the king, Radovid. Impressed by their dragons, Radovid had requested a demonstration which Daemon and Laena both obliged riding laps around the king's castle astride Caraxes and Vhagar. The demonstration was then followed by a feast to welcome Radovid's guest.
The family plans to stay for the time being as long as the Redanian king will have them. In Baela and Rhaena's letter, the twins had also written about overhearing Radovid discuss marriage talks with Daemon; apparently the king was currently looking for a wife and knew that Aemma was Daemon's eldest daughter. When asked of that potential prospect, Daemon declined, informing the king that Aemma had already been promised to another. Aemma had to laugh a little at that; she didn't know much about Radovid, but she had a feeling maybe he would've made a better match then Aegon currently. Then Radovid had suggested either Baela or Rhaena as a potential match; Baela would be preferable in the Redanian king's eyes since she has a dragon of her own, and of course the man would wait until either of the girls came of age before they wed and bed.
Far as Aemma could read, Daemon had informed Radovid he would consider the offer, but he had assured the girls they would not have to wed the man.
Aemma's reading was interrupted when she felt Alicent place a hand on her shoulder, "you father had sent you a gift for your upcoming nameday," she informs. Sure enough, the queen hands the princess a box wrapped with lace ribbon. Aemma goes to open the small box and notices it was a necklace, "it's made of silver," she observes, "like my mother's dagger."
"It's very pretty," Aemond states. "Can you help me put it on then?" Aemma asks. Aemond nods as Aemma lifts her hair up so he could place the jewelry around her neck and clasp it. "How does it look?" Aemma asks. Aemond had to stare for a bit before he realized Aemma had asked him a question, "Oh, uh...it looks good...Gevie." "It is beautiful," Alicent nods, "and Aemond, since the princess is receiving her gifts already, I may as well give you yours."
It is worth noting, Aemma and Aemond both shared a nameday. Aemma had turned four years old the day Aemond was born. It had become a little something of a tradition for the two to receive gifts together and sit together during their nameday feast. It was a time for the family to come together as well as the noble lords and ladies. It is also worth noting, that the nameday celebrations had recently become smaller for Aemma and Aemond, due to confusion from the nobles whom believed these two were also betrothed (and this was something that still continued even after Aemma's betrothal to Aegon was made official).
Now with their next nameday approaching, Aemond would finally be ten years and Aemma would be ten-and-four. Aemma wasn't so sure how to feel about this. She knew as she got older, the chances of her first flowering would soon happen as well. That wasn't really something she was looking forward to all that much as when the moment that day came, it would mean she would no longer be a girl. She would be considered a woman, and one that would be fit to marry Aegon and give him his children.
Aemma wouldn't worry about that right now. Instead, she put those thoughts aside and addressed the queen, "will there be honey cake at our nameday, your Grace?" Alicent gave a small smile and placed a hand on Aemma's shoulder, "of course," she assures, "just like every year."
Right at that moment, a messenger arrived with a letter in hand, "your Grace," he says, "this...this message came all this way...from the Continent." Frowning in confusion, Alicent took the letter and slowly opened it, reading it carefully.
Once she finished, Alicent closed the letter, placing a mouth over her mouth. "Mother?" Aemond speaks up, concerned for his mother. He took a look at the letter Alicent was still holding, "what was in the letter?" Alicent pulled the letter away. "It was from the Continent, is it?" Aemma asks, "is it...is it about my mother?"
Alicent said nothing, knowing staring off like at a distance. Aemond snuck the letter away from his mother and handed it to Aemma. Aemma looked at the message, not even sure she wanted to read it. Scared, she opened the letter and slowly read through it. As she continued to do so, her hands started to shake, tears threatening to slip out of her eyes. "Aemma?" she barely hears Aemond's voice.
Her hands shake some more and she drops the letter, letting the tears slip out as she ran out back to her chambers. Aemond picked up the letter to see what it was that had both his mother so distraught and his cousin so upset. He then understood only after he read it.
On the Continent, in the South, a riot had broken out in the kingdom of Rivia, a pogrom as it were. With the war against Nilfgaard concluded, people had grown discontent with the growing poverty and had decided to target their anger at the most vulnerable, those being non-humans and witches. Many died during this riot...among those who counted among the dead was a bardess who went by the name the Lady of Larks. She had been found amongst the corpses laying next to the White Wolf who had apparently taken a pitch fork to the gut that must've surely killed him.
The message also added that though the deaths of Lady (y/n) and Geralt of Rivia had been confirmed among others, their bodies were never found.
Aemond knew then what this meant for Aemma...she would never see her mother again...and she would never have the chance to exact her vengeance on the man who stole her away in the first place.

Watching a documentary on Edward II while I work and in this doc:
1. They repeatedly call Piers Gaveston Edward's "best mate" and "close friend", then have one seven-second acknowledgement that they were probably lovers before immediately returning to calling them pals, buds, just mates being dudes, my guys, just bros like bros will be, totally normal friendship here
2. Piers is not depicted as half so pretty as he likely was. He is handsome, yes, but very... dirty compared to everyone else? And also, dude, brush your hair. Come on. Piers Gaveston was famously not only arrogant but vain!
3. The actor playing Edward is playing this documentary dramatization like he is going for the motherfucking Oscar, he is amazing. I love him, my God someone give this man jobs and money!
4. They speak French! Just like everyone actually did!
5. Hugh Despenser has perfect hair, which seems in character
6. The documentary definitely doesn't admit the simple truth that Hugh Despenser the Younger was almost certainly Pretty Man Bait to get Edward II to give the Despensers power.
7. The doc DOES do a great job of showing what an absolute disaster Edward II was at basically everything forever
8. It does contain the most excellent line, "To the people of the time, Edward could have been bedding his priest, his page boy, and his horse, so long as he was governing the kingdom properly."
9. Isabella's actress is also incredible. That woman does some impeccable face-acting.
10. Man. The moral of this documentary - and of his life - should be "This man did not deserve the wild glory inherent in his amazing wife."
11. Now Hugh Despenser needs to brush his hair! Maybe Edward just likes 'em grungy.
12. Edward is the epitome of being shown exactly what he needs to do and then doing the opposite.
13. I am genuinely impressed at how carefully they dance around admitting that Edward was definitely up in Hugh Despenser's business, too. His manly business.
14. Wait, I take it back. The real moral of this story is "take a woman's children from her arms and she will burn you to the ground and spit on your ashes."
15. Honestly, I don't blame her.
16. THEY CALLED HER THE SHE-WOLF FOR A REASON, MOTHERFUCKERS.
17. Also, hell yeah for Isabella's brother the King of France working with her on this. He absolutely knew Isabella was being underestimated and he made sure he never did.
18. Oh, so we can admit Isabella and Roger Mortimer were sleeping together, huh? We can admit that? I mean as long as it's decently hetero, sure, let's have a whole sex scene. But God forbid we admit Edward and Piers might have held hands under a tree even once.
19. THEY PUT A SEX NOISE IN EVEN
20. Honestly now I'm mad.
21. "She has a number of men closer to a moderate house party than an invading force." Okay, that line redeems you somewhat.
22. Awwwww puppies hunting the disgraced king, sweet. I love when dogs are clearly checking for cues from their trainers just off screen.
23. A FIFTY FOOT GALLOWS SEEMS EXCESSIVE. Oh holy shit they hung him without quite killing him, then de-genitaled and- god damn, Isabella. This seems like a bit much.
24. SHE MADE A POINT OF EATING WHEN THEY CUT HIS DICK OFF.
25. Isabella is terrifying. I am in wild irrational love.
26. I'm sorry they put WHAT up Edward's ass. A red hot WHAT
27. I feel like that probably didn't actually happen but honestly, I don't doubt Isabella is capable of it. And also, um, these deaths seem... To send a message.
28. "Edward's wife and her lover-" oh, are you sure they're not just best mates? Buddies? Pals? Like Edward and Gaveston?
29. Oh he probably just like... was smothered. That makes way more sense. He could be "found dead" then and it could be claimed to be natural causes.
30. Underestimate pissed off French women at your peril, English kings.

Cyd Charisse (The Bandwagon, Brigadoon, Singin’ in the Rain)—LEGS LEGS LEGS I would sell my soul for the legs of Cyd Charisse - she oozed style and glamour and sex appeal!! And she could DANCE! She was dancing next to the greats - Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire but they are never who you're looking at because why would you when you can look at her. I will only sit through too long ballet breaks for her. If there was any woman who you could call sex on legs it was her. These dances are everything to meeee (she comes in at the minute mark) and this dance too of course is iconic. In the words of Fred Astaire 'When you've danced with Cyd Charisse you stay danced with'
Suchitra Sen (Harano Sur, Chaowa Pawa)—Suchitra Sen! She had a 25-year career in Bengali films, and was at the height of popularity for a solid two decades as half of the wildly beloved pair of Uttam-Suchitra, who were practically the entire romantic genre of Bengali films by themselves. She acted in literary adaptations, romantic comedies, (melo)dramas and inspired-by-current-events films. She was the first Indian actress to receive an international award at the Moscow International Film Festival. In 1978, after the release of her last film (a box-office flop) she pulled a Garbo and put herself out of the public eye completely. She made no appearances, gave no interviews, refused awards, all of it. She didn't even show up for her daughter's or grand-daughters' debuts! She was taken for funerary rites in a covered hearse! The glamour! The mystery! That blinding smile!
This is round 2 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Suchitra Sen:
Tumblr media
Not to take away from her costars in Devdas (1955), but the great Indian cinematic tradition of Tragic Romantic Yearning would not, I argue, be what it is without Suchitra Sen's performance in that film. I root for things to turn out better for her every time, even though I know how things are going to go.
Tumblr media
A Bengali cinema icon. Liked crows (per Gulzar, "It was an astonishing sight. The crows used to pick at the grapes from her hand").

She once rejected Raj Kapoor's movie offer (one of the most successful actor and director at the time). She was quoted saying, “In men, I don’t look for beauty. I look for intelligence and sharp conversations. I had refused Raj Kapoor’s offer almost immediately. He came to my residence offering a lead role and, as I took my seat, he suddenly sat near my foot and offered me a bouquet of roses while offering the role. I rejected the offer. I did not like his personality. The way he behaved – sitting near my foot – did not befit a man.”
Legendary poet, lyricist, director and writer Gulzaar had this to say about her "Glad that my ‘Sir’—that’s what I call her— got the Dada Saheb Phalke award during her lifetime. Contrary to people’s perceptions, Suchitra Sen is an extremely warm and very very friendly person. I adore and respect her. But she has the right to choose her friends. Surely she’s justified in keeping away from every Tom, Dick and Harry. She’s the only example of such quiet dignity in show-biz. That’s why the media compares her with Great Garbo. Suchitra Sen is my Sir. I’ll explain. During the shooting of Aandhi she started calling me Sir. Everyone in Kolkata calls her Madame. Since I’m her junior I requested her not to call me Sir. But she insisted. (We always converse in Bengali). So I call her Sir and she calls me Sir.”
Linked musical number [won't let me display embedded for some reason]

Cyd:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Photos do not do Cyd Charisse justice, unfortunately, because she is at her hottest while dancing, which she was exquisitely good at. Just go watch her first number in Singin' in the Rain, in that green dress; nothing I could say here will be more convincing that that.
She had amazing legs, and she knew how to use them! You probably know her best from the dream sequence in Singin' In The Rain. She was such a stunning dancer, and all her dance scenes are hard to look away from.
Dancing in the Dark clip:
youtube
She's an amazing dancer and my favorite from the period. Here's her and Fred Astaire in the Band Wagon:
youtube
I just like a woman who's there to be really incredibly good at dancing.
One of the most talented female dancers in Hollywood history, but what sets her apart from other competitors for that title is that she...umm...well let's be blunt, she was the dancer who put sex into it. The one who said "Hey, you know that A+ leg tone that naturally develops from doing this for a living? Why don't I let people see that? Like at every opportunity?" She reportedly insured her legs for five million dollars after hitting it big, which just goes to show that fame makes you crazy. It should have been ten million.
Tumblr media
Arguably the Best female dancer of her time, she supposedly insured her legs for $5 million dollars. Stole the show whenever she had a dance number, even if she went uncredited. Musicals started to go out of fashion so unfortunately she didn't have as many big roles as she should have, but those she did are unforgettable. The Broadway Melody number in Singin' in the Rain - the green dress!
She could pirouette in pointes or tear it up in taps. Fred Astaire called her "beautiful dynamite" and wrote, "That Cyd! When you've danced with her you stay danced with." Gene Kelly partnered with her three times. Her legs were (reportedly) insured for $5 million in 1952 ($57.8 million in 2024 dollars)! Everyone in this poll will be iconic, but for raw physical grace, Cyd is up there with the best.
Tumblr media
Legs for days, beautiful dancer in the most iconic scenes of Singin in the Rain. She's glorious. As some guys sung to her in It's Always fair weather, 'baby you knock me out!'
Tumblr media
Incredibly, Cyd Charisse only started learning to dance as a rehab exercise to strengthen her body after a childhood bout of polio. She was in high demand as a dance partner, Fred Astaire called her beautiful dynamite and said "When you've danced with her, you stayed danced with". She was one of a few leading ladies to dance with both Astaire and Kelly, declaring them both delicious. Kelly apparently was stronger, while Astaire was more coordinated. She also said her husband would always know who she had been dancing with because Kelly left her bruised, while Astaire didn't leave a mark. She's better known for her dance numbers today, but she was a leading lady in her time! Her Scottish accent in Brigadoon leaves a lot to be desired, but compared to the other actors in the movie, it's almost good. She appeared in The Harvey Girls alongside Judy Garland and Angela Lansbury in her first speaking role, but she really burst onto the scene with Singin' in the Rain and her infamous Broadway Melody Ballet number with Gene Kelly (no one could handle a length of fabric like Cyd Charisse). She was brought in because Debbie Reynolds wasn't really a dancer and Kelly was notoriously a stickler about his Vision. After that she starred opposite Astaire in The Band Wagon, which was a bit of a flop but created some enduringly incredible dance numbers. She went on to star in a number of MGM movies, and was one of the last of the Studio era stars to remain on contract. Since we've got up to 1970, I'm including her opening routine in The Silencers (1966) to show just how long she was making a splash - she's into her 40s here and still a siren:
youtube
and of course, the iconic Broadway Melody Ballet -

Lost and Found

All of the following items have been brought to The Overseer staff’s office for safekeeping until they are claimed. If you recognize one of these items as yours, please visit us to receive your items, or contact us at [email protected]. Lost items will be sent to Twinkly Trash if not picked up after two weeks. Thank you! *Not a real email address.
Item 1: A heavy backpack full of amethyst This backpack is dyed a bright orange with blue accents and is filled with two stacks of amethyst. Basic diamond mining tools were also found inside the pack, along with three stacks of torches.
Item 2: A necklace of animal teeth This necklace appears to be made out of the teeth of several Ravagers and is painted with intricate spiraled patterns.
Item 3: A pile of shoelaces with frayed ends These shoelaces appear to have been made a few years ago and were found in a small pouch. They come in several bright colors and are very short, as if they were made for children’s sneakers. There were no aglets on these shoelaces and the ends are very frayed.
Item 4: A box of pavement chalk This box of chalk was found in the Shopping District next to a series of chalk drawings lining the paths. These drawings resemble large chasms, out of which are bursting colorful lightning bolts. There are also several circles, inside of which are written, “Bad Luck Spot.”
Item 5: A pack of playing cards This pack of cards was found near Grian’s rocks and is designed with characters from several 1980s arcade games. They were found scattered in the area.
Item 6: A necklace with a locket This was found in the woods and gave the finder an electric shock when they attempted to open it. There is a distant ticking sound coming from it and an engraving on the back, written in galactic. Half of the engraving is scratched off. The finder suggests taking it as far as possible or finding a way to destroy it completely.
Item 7: A set of tools and weapons in an overgrown box This set includes a sword with Riptide 3, an axe with Feather Falling 2, a pickaxe with Blast Protection 3, a bow with Thorns 5, a shovel with Aqua Affinity, a fishing rod with Flame, and shears with Swift Sneak 3 and Soul Speed 2.
Item 8: A life-sized crocheted office printer plush Stuffed with cotton, it is scented like that of a fresh book. The finder believes whoever made this took “Your workplace is your home,” quite literally.
Item 9: A shipment of merchandise to be released This was found via a motorcycle delivery driver crashing into someone’s garden. The items include subtly designed Warden hoodies, frosty mugs resembling frozen shards, Collector’s Edition Decked Out 2 Cards, relic charms, and two dozen shirts that say, “I survived the burning dark and all I got was this lousy t-shirt,” with one of the dozen being colored to resemble a Ravager and the other colored like that of a Warden. The apparels are made with moderately thick fabric, making them ideal for both warm and cool weather.
Item 10: An indestructible 25-ounce goose-shaped mug This goose-shaped mug depicts the goose’s neck as the handle. It says, “FLIGHT, FRIGHT, FIGHT!” in the font of Another Danger by The Branded Quotes, written in vibrant red letters. It has Unbreaking 5 and Mending. It has been dropped eight times on the finder’s way to the office and not a single chip or dent has formed.

★ ⸻ heylo, this is red (25+, they/them) bringing you my lovely tangerine, liu mingyue! been a hot minute since i've did tumblr rp so please bear with me ! read more of mingyue under the cuts. do like this post and i'll reach out !
profile / plots / points / playlist
basics !
liu mingyue is from beijing, china! you can call him mingyue, mingyu for those who want to address his korean name, mingming for those who cannot pronounce his name, and xiao ming or ah yue for those REALLY close.
back in beijing, he was a child actor for a few years. nothing big scale, mostly him just taking roles of child versions of male leads.
tw / death. his family consists of his father, his mother (who is deceased) and his younger sister of five years. mingyue is quite the momma's boy and the reason of him liking singing and wanting to be an idol. he would sing in his mother's last days and when she told him he was meant for the world to listen, he took it quite to heart to show the world his singing. or wants to.
he came to seoul around the age of fifteen after joining this global audition program in beijing. trained under this no name entertainment for a good three years and did not make it to the debut line up. left ultimately because the company wasn't going to debut any other people for the next few years.
he didn't go back to beijing though, he continued his education in an international school and eventually in snu under accounting and business management. he's rather privileged thanks to his father being a huge business back in beijing and him studying his major now is a safety net more so if he never gets to debut
here are some things that i would like for mingyue to be plotted with if given the chance or interest !!
best friends! someone whom maybe he met during his time in the international school or student exchange program?? cross school events??? or even in snu
enemy or sorts? someone who calls out his privileges even if he never really brags about it. he really likes shopping for clothing on coupang or streets of hongdae or myeongdong tbh but your muse sees thru his richness or wtv
roommate/housemate??? i believe he's staying on campus ground but between that to the company, its some distance. so he'd like staying somewhere in the middle
exes!! just one, and someone he agreed to date in his earlier years of staying in seoul where he was a dumb teenager (say they dated when they were around 16-18). lots of language barrier and misunderstandings. even broke up over the dumbest reason??
people who make him feel like home? fellow mandarin speaker trainees. where other people may be celebrating chuseok but they can have their little hot pot session and mahjongs. silly banters over formalities usage because saying ge and jie is better than hyung and noona
vocal rivals,, fave duet partner. people who just constantly help mingyue be a better singer whether they are meant to be friends or rivals in the practice room
a muse perhaps? someone he's infatuated with and writes songs about but never publicly addresses his infatuation. maybe your muse eventually finds his scrapped and crumbled writings??

Jonathan Bailey interview with the Evening Standard (2021)
Tumblr media
There are worse places to conduct an interview than a park, and at least it’s only drizzling.
The only problem is that people won’t leave Jonathan Bailey alone. Which is to be expected, of course: he’s in Bridgerton, the most-watched original Netflix series in its history, viewed on 82 million accounts in a month since it dropped on Christmas Day. Wait. Did I say people? I meant dogs. They snaffle at his heels and rub against his legs while the humans remain impervious. This is because, devoid of his mutton chops and tailcoat, the 32-year-old actor looks a world away from Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, brother of Daphne; lover of Sienna; friend and foe of Simon, Duke of Hastings.
Today he’s dressed in a nylon jacket and sporting very different hair. ‘Bit of a spoiler for season two — I’ve had a light perm,’ he smiles.
And even if Bailey had spent the past two months in full regency costume, fame would have eluded him until lockdown eased and the usual signifiers — being hassled in restaurants, endless selfie requests — were back on the table. Until then it lies in wait, preserved in aspic.
Having spent lockdown thus far on the East Sussex coast staying home like the rest of us, Bailey admits the disconnect is confusing. ‘I feel like I’m being gaslit on a global scale,’ he laughs. ‘Even today, just meeting and talking to actual people who have seen the show feels weird. To me and all the British cast, it feels like Nasa. Netflix launched this spaceship, and you get launched into space. It’s a brilliantly traumatic thing to experience. The launch only happens once, and then it’s about tethering yourself and working it out. I think that might take a while.
‘The isolation of lockdown has been incredibly hard for everyone, but the isolation of feeling like you can’t inhabit the experience that other people are experiencing around you, while being locked down and not being able to see your friends…’ he tails off. ‘Presumably all it will take to shake it off is a big dinner, or even just having a few pints and going out.’
With a slew of TV parts under his belt (Broadchurch, Crashing, Chewing Gum, W1A) and an Olivier award for his role as Jamie in Company (2018), Bailey isn’t exactly an ingénue. But Bridgerton is one of those rare TV programmes that has bestowed fame on a global scale.
Produced by Shonda Rhimes and adapted from the historical novels of Julia Quinn, Netflix’s genre-busting costume drama reached the top 10 in 189 countries, thanks to a sharp script, lavish costumes and racially diverse cast that saw actors of colour inhabit the highest echelons of 19th-century society in a way that had never been seen on screen before. That this high society is presided over by a black woman, Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), might be diversity divorced from any historical context, but the alternative — another costume drama inhabited by white people — has never felt more wrong.
Bailey auditioned for the part in 2018 while appearing in Company, sending off a tape to Rhimes’s production company, Shondaland. ‘I got offered the job on my 31st birthday, 25 April 2019,’ he recalls. Filming started in July 2019 and ended in March 2020, narrowly avoiding any impact from the pandemic.
‘For me it feels like a lockdown anyway when I’m working, so it’s a long time since I can remember normal life.’ Has he been he a banana bread-baking stereotype over lockdowns? ‘I made more than banana bread,’ he laughs. ‘I started with banana bread but went on to cinnamon rolls, although they looked like turds — terrible. But I made amazing hot cross buns.’
The million dollar cliché: what did he learn about himself? ‘I feel more complicated than I thought I was,’ he says. ‘And then I’ve been affirmed by certain things. I did a lot of cycling between lockdowns, in Cornwall and around Italy last summer — pure recharge, pure perspective. Nature is so important. I know everyone’s saying that, and that some people can just keep going flat out, but I know I need to recharge. And I love a bath. I’ve had weeks where I’ve had a minimum of two a day.’ He suddenly looks horrified. ‘Actually, that’s awful. Don’t put that, ’cause it’s wasting water.’
Barely has ‘what did you miss the most?’ escaped from my lips and he exclaims, ‘Theatre! Not just theatre, but the possibility of theatre. But then, I’ve been watching really brilliant theatre creatives smashing it on TV instead.’ He points out that Bridgerton cast members Rosheuvel, Ruth Gemmell, Adjoa Andoh and Luke Thompson are all regulars on the stage. ‘We should be proud in Britain that there’s a massive crossover between theatre and TV. It’s not a semi-permeable membrane: it’s all one talent pool.’
Could the Government be doing more to support theatre? ‘Absolutely. It’s just the people who are making the decisions; if it had been someone who loves theatre, and understood the importance of it, this would never have happened. There are certain things in life where you go, “That’s a marker”, and the [2019] government campaign about Fatima having to retrain in cyber was one. That was a wound that will take a long time to heal. And the other marker of a moment is Ruth Sheen’s performance in It’s A Sin [the veteran actress had a cameo as a hospital visitor who took Keeley Hawes’ character to task in the final episode]. The last year hasn’t been about Christmas and Easter. It’s been about markers like those.’
Bailey has been described online as ‘openly gay’. I point out that no actors are ever described as ‘openly straight’, and he laughs. ‘I’d say I’m not openly gay. I’m just gay.’ Although he is wary of discussing his sexuality for the sake of it. ‘Then it becomes a commodity and a currency. I knew that I wanted to be visible about my sexuality, because in all the territories that Netflix goes out in, there might be a boy somewhere that goes, “Wait, what?” Which is what I didn’t have when I was young. All I know is that I’m happy to keep working really hard and if there are opportunities for representation, and to make that point, then that’s something I’ll always strive to do.’
Like just about everyone else, he loved It’s A Sin. ‘It was an incredible way to talk about an awful pandemic, and an absolute tragedy that so many people will be triggered by it. In Ruth Sheen’s character, you have a heterosexual woman who is mother to a gay son, challenging another mother. I found that rage incredible. The gay fantasy isn’t just hanging out in bars and meeting men. The gay fantasy is to have guardian angels of allyship.’
He’s hesitant to say whether he agrees with director Russell T Davies’ assertion that gay people should play gay roles. ‘It’s a big old conversation and one I’ve spoken to Russell about, and many other actors. But it’s really hard to give a sound bite to sum up.’
I tell him I don’t want a sound bite. ‘It’s about redressing the balance of access to roles. There just aren’t that many gay roles, so when straight actors go to take that space up, it’s eliminating the chance for other [gay actors].
‘We know there has been a history of needing to be closeted to succeed and be famous, especially in acting. And the idea of not being able to believe heterosexual relations and narrative, if you know one of the actors is gay… everyone should be able to play absolutely everything. But let’s blow away all the cobwebs, and one of the hang-ups and shadows of the past is that we need to be a lot more open to the idea of sexes playing different sides. There have been amazing performances by straight people playing gay and by gay people playing straight. It’s a moment to think about that, and I think Russell’s point was that there’s a vitality and a joy to It’s A Sin because he cast gay people in gay roles. That’s completely true. It’s not a bad thing to own your narrative.”
He is glad not to have received any flack for playing a straight role such as Viscount Anthony. ‘Bearing in mind the internet is a place where anyone can say anything, there hasn’t been anyone who’s had any animosity, or challenged it, so that’s good. Yes, I’m looking forward to gay actors playing gay parts, but for me it’s so important that everyone at home can see a bit of themselves on screen, to allow them to feel heard and seen, and also allow them to have aspirations.
‘Good actors can do anything, and there’ll be amazing writers who are willing to write for everyone. If there are people who don’t have access to creating their own TV shows or telling the stories they want to tell, then absolutely, everyone has to make space for them. That’s not just to do with gender or sexuality. It’s to do with race, religion and everything else.’ He pauses. ‘The idea that someone could read that and go, “God, that’s just a woke viewpoint,” I find really funny. It’s just basic sense, isn’t it?’
Another dog — this time a cockapoo — launches itself on Bailey mid-flow. ‘We have a family cockapoo. I looked after him in Lockdown 1,’ he says. ‘That was a real baptism of fire. He ate a sock. A full sock. It was a Muji sock. Stripy. And then it came up again three days later.’ What’s he called? ‘Benson, after the village I grew up in.’
His sounds an idyllic childhood. Brought up in Oxfordshire, he eschewed drama school for an Open University degree. Neither his parents nor three older sisters have anything to do with acting, but his interest was sparked as a child after watching a production of Oliver in the village hall. He joined the local drama club and also pootled around at the back of the class while one sister did ballet. ‘I wasn’t really invited, but I remember having Velcro trainers and just squeaking in the back and trying to do some pliés. I stopped dancing aged 12 because of the inevitable narrative — peer pressure. Ballet became a euphemism for something else.’
Was he the sort of kid who always got the lead in the school play? ‘I did play Jolly Roger in Jolly Roger,’ he smiles. ‘But then I was taken down a peg or two when I played a raindrop in Noah’s Ark. You win some, you lose some.’
With Bridgerton likely to run for many more seasons, and Viscount Anthony’s storyline taking centre stage in season two (now that sister Daphne is married off, the plot will focus on his own romantic life), Bailey’s newfound fame isn’t going to dissipate any time soon. He has mixed feelings. ‘You work and strive to be an actor and you can get better at it and enjoy it. But you can’t be good at fame or enjoy it. Some people do, some people don’t. It’s a different cocktail for everyone. There are suddenly opportunities available, which is brilliant, and I’m incredibly lucky. But then I realise this is when people say it’s about saying no, because what you say no to keeps you on the path.’
What also keeps him on the right path is the role itself. ‘Bridgerton is actually delivering on changing the bar, and the standard, of representation. Because of that, I’ve had amazing messages from people who have been able to talk about their sexuality, or people who have seen themselves or their children in the Duke of Hastings [storyline]. For me that’s the thing that’s always going to ground [the experience]. It’s a candyfloss juggernaut theme park ride — like multiple sensory overload.
‘So thank God for family. Thank God for friends.’
