So *cough cough* this is my thoughts!

These were my very beginning sketches of what I thought theyd look like in the fic! In my mind they are a bit different now, especially HotGuy. But this has been looking at me for months so I thought I'd share! <3<3

so remember when scar just got back from empires and he kept missing all his shots. well, there’s so many angst possibilities in this actually.

like maybe hotguy really is just out of practice after going on vacation or something. and he’s unmotivated because of it, so he needs someone to convince him that no, he hasn’t lost his touch, this is nothing that some practice won’t fix.

but maybe he has lost his touch. because, you know, people age and bodies change, you can’t do the same things you were able to do a decade ago. and so he reaches that point that every professional sports player does, when you start getting more tired, your skill level starts dropping and you have to slowly accept the fact that maybe it’s time to retire.

but the thing is, this is more than just a sport. for him, and for society at large, being a hero is a moral obligation. you can’t just retire from doing good things. obviously when you do sports for a living, the pressure is also incredibly high, since you’re representing an entire city, or country, or whatever. plus some sports fans can be fucking toxic. but this is more than that. because due to the nature of his job, in his eyes and in the eyes of society his status as a good person is intrinsically rooted in whether he can be a hero or not.

we all know that aging is not allowed in our society. so imagine the articles. “hotguy lost his touch?” and “favourite hero retiring?” and “the recent failures of hotguy: can you trust the number one superhero to save you?” and whatever else. there’s people ridiculing him, making compilations of his missed shots, calling for his retirement, accusing him of being lazy. and scar doesn’t know what they want from him. they’re so mad at him for not doing a good job at being a hero, yet they’re...saying that he’s a bad person if he decides to not be a hero?

so he tries his best to be as perfect as he can possibly be. practicing tirelessly, overworking himself, maybe eating less because what if his problem is just that he’s gained weight? we all know how unforgiving our society is to people who “let themselves go” in any capacity. so scar does everything to become better at what he does, to retain his old skill - and it doesn’t work. imagine the self-loathing and bone-deep frustration he’d experience. he feels like he’s losing himself; if he’s not ridiculously good with a bow, then who is he?

and maybe then scar royally fucks up on a mission and someone suffers because of it. the backlash is overwhelming so he decides to quit and erase any evidence of his existence before he can be fired. and it’s all over the news, obviously. and he’s no longer hotguy, but this is him they’re talking about. he has to read and listen to all that, every article and every last insult sent his way. and he has to blame himself, to grapple with the fact that this is not just a natural progression of anyone’s life but his failing, that he is a bad person, that he just didn’t try hard enough and let everyone down.

and he has to adjust to a normal person’s life. maybe it was known that he was good with a bow since he was a kid, so he just never bothered learning to do anything else. and he now has to find something else that he enjoys and is good at. and he genuinely misses being hotguy, he misses shooting, but he doesn’t think he can ever touch a bow again now that he’s not the best of the best. scar thought he knew who he was, and now he’s grown older and he has to find himself all over again.

idk, i just like the idea of someone being good at something and then having to come to terms with the fact that that skill doesn’t last forever. i also love exploring aging and how it affects people, in a society where you’re taught that youth is the only thing you’re good for.

Le story:

Grian sat down on the ledge with a thud. He watched the city below cars and people going about there day, unaware of his plight. He though to himself numbly, _The world moved on. It didn’t matter what happened to him. People would still go about their day. The barista at his favorite coffee shop would still highjack the sound system and play her playlist, the kid he walked by every morning would still look longingly at the flower shop, Pearl would still rewatch the Lego Batman every Saturday. His world crashing to the ground around him wouldn’t affect anyone else._

And in some way he was relieved by it. That everyone else would stay the same. He looked down onto the busy city and smiled. He felt a thump beside him.

“Hey there stranger, you wanna talk?”

Grian looked up.

A masked man in what looked like dnd elves cosplay sat next to him. His ears pointed and face concerned.

Oh, he guessed from an outsiders perspective this would seem quite concerning but Grian didn’t have the energy to tell the guy he was fine.

“Not really”

“Alright then, can I talk?” The guy said plopping down beside him.

“Sure” The guy gave him a brilliant smile.

“Hi, my names Scar”

“Nice to put a name to such a pretty face” Oh shit, he just said that.

“Thank you!”

Well maybe this wouldn’t be such a bad day.

(The endings bad but I didn’t know how to end it at the time so this is what we got)

yk the brainrot is bad whenever a custom tag has to be made LMAO mst au part 6 (i think? IM losing track goddamn) other jobs edition! despite scar being a very well known supervillain, being a menace towards the hero's association is very expensive. even more so when being a supervillain that's essentially independent doesn't pay. so naturally, he needs another job to help pay for the chaos he causes. (outside of the occasional stealing. it's boring for him though (unless it's canary) he prefers fireworks and explosions.) his other job, is well... being an assistant teacher! he teaches with doc hybrid biology, despite being a "human". (he knows that doc is actually m77. doc does not know he's hotguy. scar personally finds this hilarious, considering m77 hates hotguy, even if theyre both villains.) [this is also how scar met cub- both of them being science teachers. they've been stuck to the hip ever since. cub is one of the very few people that know he's hotguy, and he's saved his ass more times than he can count. thanks cub.] jimmy doesn't really have any other job outside of being a hero. it's time consuming enough and it pays really well, so there's not really a need to get another job. however, he doesn't mind doing the occasional favor if he has the time. (cat-sitting is his personal favorite.) when scott isn't busy getting information on topics that many people don't write about, or writing about said information, he works part time at a flower shop! it's family owned, and he worked at it even before he became a reporter. jimmy is surprisingly a regular, because he tries (emphasis on tries, he cannot have a plant survive to save his life) to take care of small potted plants. he will admit, he does find the endearingly clumsy canary very cute.

Scar's job doesn't pay much, but it does give him access to a lot of useful information. Knowing when an exhibition is going to open, or an important artifact is due to be transported is incredibly helpful for planning hits! He still thinks meeting Cub was the most useful part of his job. He'd be living a very lonely life in a hall cell otherwise.

Jimmy does worry about only being a hero, but he doesn't have time to do anything else. He likes to think he has enough odd skills that he'd be able to find a job if all of this fell apart.

Scott, meanwhile, does everything he can to keep his job on the lowdown. He doesn't want to bring unnecessary attention to the flower shop, whether good or bad. Fans can be just as awful as his enemies - and don't even get him started on agents.

He's happy getting to arrange flowers, caring for the plants there. The family practically raised him during his teenage years, after his own family fell apart. It's like his home, and he loves interacting with the customers too (one in particular more than others.)

Hiii I rotate many…many Ariana/Scar or HotGuy aus- you’ve awakened the beast!

Obviously like Ariana with HotGuy Scar as her bodyguard, the tension of falling in love with someone you aren’t supposed to…cause he’s supposed to protect her.

Alternatively aus in which Scar has no idea that Ariana and Grian, a popstar and a regular guy tm, are the same person, and the horrors of the poor guy crushing on both and just shenanigans ensue.

Or!! Or!! Drag Queen pop princess Ariana! Or genderfluid Grian-Ariana!!

Or Ariana the popstar who stars in a movie as a pr thing and Scar!! Is!! The famous actor/movie star!! And his character in the superhero movie is HotGuy! Obviously Ariana is the love interest! Shenanigans ensue!

Or Scar who works on set design, making beautiful decorations and facades and props for the stage and earning the affection of the leading lady/man Ariana/Grian!

well, i’m in the process of writing that and i’ve been racking my brains trying to decide on who the impersonator should be. because i don’t like making ocs, but none of the hermits really fit that role...

au where scar coulnt save Grian and so he became hot guy instead. and he became really popular and stuff and for whatever reason scar attaches to mumbo and protects him so bad because he couldn’t protect Grian so he needs to protect mumbo instead. see okay this was right this way. we can have silly little redscape and we can have angst.

(and also. let’s say, hypothetically, Grian… didn’t die. IF U CATCH MY DRIFY YKYK)

ohhh the guilt and helplessness and self hate. the feeling of not being good enough. of being a failure. the loss and grief.

the determination to never let it happen again.

i feel like that would make the redscape dynamic difficult to navigate (in a good, tasty way, trust me, we like angst here). since grian was mumbo's close friend. if it was scar's failure that resulted in grian's death? then again, the mutual grief could make them seek out more comfort in each other and... myeah.

ANYWAY. yes, as soon as i started reading the ask, my thought was also that grian really didn't die.

this instantly made me think of two things (although i can already see more possibilities shaping up).

one is that au inspired by stiffy's TOGH (i think that was the name?), where hotguy is presumed dead and cuteguy/grian struggles in the aftermath. (look i haven't rambled about this au here, but my version of it lives in my head. it's good.) but with swapped roles, in this case, obviously.

the second immediate thought was the rift. what if grian didn't die, because of the rift. (it's happened before.) but nobody knows. (what if he gets trapped in the rift?) (what if they don't know for months and then mumbo decides, with a sharp misguided nostalgia, to talk to grumbot, and grumbot somehow ends up telling him?) (what if mumbo thinks that maybe he's misunderstanding?) (what if scar thinks that mumbo is grasping at straws, grian is dead, we need to let go or it'll never stop hurting?) (what if-)

ahem. anyway. did you have any other specific idea? i once again kinda ran wild with this one oops.

(going to throw in a little extra bit for watcher grian enthusiasts: what if grian didn't die, but respawned in the void, trapped with the watchers again? the ones he spent years desperately running/hiding from? <3)

Some ideas for Playground AU because I have brainrot

Mumbo is a child prodigy, able to understand and practice equations and other similar subjects that even stump college students.

At the same time he is scared of the dark, horribly clumsy, and accident prone.

Close friends to Grian and Scar

He once went to a spelling bee across town and was gone for a week. To everyone, it felt like an eternity.

Doc is a strange one. He is almost never seen without a creeper mask and glow in the dark shoes.

He is known as the kid who’s mom allows him to have *Gasp!*

NERF GUNS

Oli is never seen without his ukulele

Moved in two weeks ago and is already making his presence known.

He owes Fwhip two Halloween’s worth of candy.

Hotguy or Hawkeye is a popular cartoon. Scar is a huge fan, collecting merch, going to a theme park with attractions about him, he even has a HotGuy lunchbox.

Grian won’t admit it, but he likes it too.

The parents will never forget the infamous nugget incident.

One of the kids got McDonalds for lunch and realized, they made a mistake in the order and added in a box of 15 piece chicken nuggets.

A competition was started to see who gets the nuggets.

It then turned into a full on riot with kids pushing and shoving each other to get to the nuggets.

It ended with some of the playground equipment broken and a week long grounding.

Oli got the nuggets.
