FUSION AU YEAHHHH! Kills and Mera addition! Here is Khaos or Chirin if you wanna be boring about it. Let me ramble about them under the cut! My sweet little trash baby!

The only reason that they have two names kind of is because their names are already very phonetically similar and Chirin was the less boring option, but then KHAOS came to mind (spelled exactly like that) and i fell in love. So their name is Khaos lol

Chimera's sluttiness and Killian's garbage vibes really give this character a FLAVOR. If the word Scuttle or Skitter was a person, Khaos would be them lol.

Mostly because they do scuttle about! They are on all fours a lot, climbing over stuff and pouncing on people because they still feel very quadrupedal even though they only have two legs. Gives them an extra layer of goblin energy that is very on brand.

I think the personality here is channeling MAJOR Eda Owlhouse vibes, moreso than Jackie over there (also very VERY vague inspo coming from Eris of Sinbad fame). Like, if you combine a grimy homeless man and the hottest woman ever you will get a trashy milf out of it. Thats what they are, a trashy milf lol.

A tomboy fatale if you will.

Okay so, I don't know why this fusion just gives such SHORT ENEGERY?? I think its because their so Crechur coded that they've gotta be a little smaller than others. Shorter than Jackie even!

I just knew FOR A FACT that I had to give them the most crazy MANE imaginable, kind of giving them mad hatter vibes almost. The rest of the fit is still up for debate (trying to balance out baggy and covered and max sluttiness is not easy), but they do have double snake scarf! Both snake friends!

Plus their little half skirt, caplet thingy has subtle leopard spots on it, instead of just grime and stains.

I think their whole powerset would be based around the idea of a really bad acid trip lol. Just to add another alice in wonderland motif, their powers are a lot of hallucinations, weird dream like states and a lot of other physical symptoms associated with drug use. Overall, NOT a good time, wouldn't not recommend. This is the literal image of a nightmare blunt rotation.

Their eyes can probably do the little swirly, hypnosis kinda thing.

AND THEY GOT BODY HORROR FOR DAYS. I think their niche is being a contortionist and all the fun shit that goes with that!

Like the fucking Alexandrite lookin, double mouth/jaw under the face type of shit! Thats canon because that shits metal as fuck.

And so I had this thought of this fusion and how they interact with other fusions and like, I think Jackie is a bit conflicted lol. They are trying SO HARD to figure out if their attracted to this alley cat looking bitch or not lol. Are they attracted to them? Are they terrified of them?? Is it BOTH??? Who knows! But it has been FUN to think about.

The first time I ever wrote fanfic was when I was 16 in 2005 and in That 70s Show fandom shipping Jackie/Hyde. I wrote a canon divergence fic called "Anything For You, Doll" that took place during the episode "Vanstock". I ended up being in that fandom for over 3 years and wrote a lot of fics which now no longer exist on the internet as of this year. 😩 I actually am really proud of a lot of those fics (my favorite being a Sixteen Candles inspired AU) but what happened with Danny Masterson these last few years was just too horrifying and disgusting for me to ever consider returning to that ship or show. And even though I know when I wrote those fics I of course knew nothing about his crimes (no one did) it was hard for me to imagine new fans or old fans ever coming back to fanfics for Jackie/Hyde once they learned what kind of person Danny Masterson was during that time playing Hyde. And I felt icky having them there. I know this was supposed to be probably a fun answer, but now in 2024 I have such complicated feelings about my time in T7S fandom from 2005-2008. It was literally the best of times and I grew so much as a writer with the stories I attempted and the friends I made. But that bastard ruined a lot of those memories.

For Elucien, because they're my OTP, if they are with anyone else. Lol. I'm very monogamous with my OTPs. I can get into non monogamy and swapping around if it's a couple I only casually ship. But OTPs are off limits. Something that happens a lot in Elucien fic is casually mentioning Lucien is fucking Jurian and Vassa in threesomes while he's waiting for Elain and NO THANKS.

Oh also when people write Elain too mean or antagonistic to Lucien. It's always felt OOC to me. I have a very specific vision of Elain in my head and it's hard for me to get into fics if she deviates too hard. I have some wiggle room but ultimately I like what I like! So when I start picking up that vibe, after a lot of experience of trying and not enjoying that depiction of Elain, I just DNF pretty quick these days.

If I were to pick a true number one, it'd be "the team". The group dynamic itself and how it's progressing due to the complications of their stay in the wilderness is absolutely fascinating. The pull and push of the embryos of "factions" building, the tension, the mutations or distance or deepening of past dynamics, the slow build (kind of wish it was even SLOWER, I like that xD) to the cult we've been hinted at... I'm into that shit xDD

Small aside: someone else has probably raised the possibility, but I've wondered whether there will be just one (1) antler queen (Lottie as the favourite, Shauna as the spoiler, IMO XD), OR if it'll be a rotating position so everyone is "equally" to blame, iykwim? Idk, I think if there'd been just one (1) girl in charge the dynamics among them in the future would be different (although I'd have to see more of the others vis a vis Lottie to be sure. Natalie is hostile towards her but that's not as clear-cut, and I think if Lottie had been Completely In Charge it'd make more sense for her to be waaaaaaaaay beyond hostile and snarky lol). I mean, unless my half-joke theory turns to be true and it was Mari until there was an uprising against her xDD

After that... I must go with Jackie and Shauna. I find it really engaging, everything I could've asked for in terms of messy toxic teen girlfriendship LOL. The only caveat it's that Jackie's death and the consequent stagnation of their relationship is a double-edged sword: yes, it adds a fascinating component, especially in the future when you see how NOT OVER IT Shauna remains... but it means there's no advancement, no possible deeper exploration from half of the relationship (barring the show going full supernatural and resurrecting Jackie I guess xD, but it's doubtful). Jackie's doomed by the narrative and that's part of what I like about her, but it also means that Jackie-the-person, instead of Jackie-the-construct, has little to contribute from now on. All of this is to say: right now these two occupy the second position, but other relationships have more possibilities to grow in my esteem going forward.

For number three, I'm choosing Misty and Natalie. It's hilarious and weirdly heartwarming in the creepiest of ways xD, and I simply enjoy every second of them on my screen. Misty's fixation and admiration of Natalie could be enough to write an essay, and I also love wondering about how much their moments in 1x09-1x10 were Natalie genuinely warming up a little to Misty and how much it was Natalie needing her help LOL.

Positions four and five could vary going forward (there are so many dynamics that have gone underexplored for now but that I'm IMMENSELY curious about). But as of now, I'm going to pick Taissa and Van. This interview was an eye-opener. I already like them from what we've seen, but I'm really banking on their potential as exes in the present timeline because you guys all know I loooooove a good exes plot. Add that whatever is going on with mirror!Tai wanting to see Van again... I'm Looking 👀

I'd say either Lottie and Laura Lee or Lottie and Natalie. The first has that prophet/disciple flavour going on that I find superb, but we run into a similar problem as Jackie-Shauna (even more, given how comparatively little we have of Laura Lee vs. Jackie). Lottie and Nat still have a lot to say, IMO. I feel like we've barely scratched the surface in comparison, and I want to see more, but I'm not quite there. Shauna and Tai are a good pair too, but they've given me less in the last few episodes.

My favourites could also be encompassed by "the team", although I obviously have preferences lol. Misty and Lottie are likely at the very top (Misty is unhinged and I can't look away from the crash, Lottie has the heretic messiah thing going for her), with Taissa and Natalie not far behind, Shauna as the !!!!! option, Jackie as a great Dead Girl TM, Vanessa has a lot of potential, and Mari and Crystal are simply hilarious...

As for "least favourite"... I don't hate anybody, but I reiterate that I don't care for the normies AT ALL. Like, nothing. "Oh this character is having a Rough Time" were they in the crash? Did they have to survive in the wilderness? No? Then I'm not paying any attention to them. My empathy is fully turned off, trust me xDD. My hierarchy is girls in the crash >>> boys in the crash >>>>>>> normies. But I'm mainly neutral about (and sometimes amused by) them. The ones I'd say I dislike the most are the cop characters, especially that moustache one, or Randy, or Adam... but it's a ~mute dislike, iykwim. They're unlikeable people, I just don't care about them as characters.

i know kelso treated jackie shitty (damn i can't control the weather/cheating with laurie and most likely others no confirmation for sure for the others) but hyde would say mean things to jackie or invalidate their relationship or whatever. that was his schtick, hyde had 'issues' everyone in the show did but i think hyde had it rough at home, maybeits part of the reason he and jackie jived well because they both had issues with their parents/home lives. hydes were so bad that the formans took him in and arguably jackie too at one time before they were caught together. however the difference between kelso and hyde is hyde did love jackie but he would SHOW IT in his actions and less in his words. it was rare to see a sensitive side but when he showed it was lovely. he was more of a sarcastic type or dead pan, where kelso didn't give a shit, or played ignorant until it mattered 11th hour salvage and it was just complicated and jackie was pretty much done. neither was perfect. i really do not like that in that 90's show she's like with kelso (better than being with fez but irl mila and kutcher are together) but i don't think jackie was happy with either. kelso was a horrible bf! he had moments but he was horrible to her. she seemed unhappy with kelso from the glimpse we saw while married (their son is literally kelso too, yikes and jackie abandoning fez to run off with kelso storyline doesn't seem jackie at all!) obviously, we couldn't have 90's puddin'pops hydejackie in any capacity (is he canon like jail?) or not around for some other reason/relocated/off the grid (irl it was the allegations/case around masterson) but in the show maybe it was jail bc he always would joke about it/family in jail/being generally criminal/popped for weed who knows since 1979-1980 when t70's ended and 90s when t90's show started/was going on in like the mid-90's. also there were the 1980's drug scene/war on drugs times perhaps he got into harder drugs and then jail and stuff bc laws and he was anti pretty much establishment or heavily implied to be so yeah. jackie was obviously not a criminal so ...

am i making sense? i hope so. so there you have it. that's how i see it in terms of jackie's relationships on that 70's show/present. i'd love to hear what you think? (there are things i missed, unfortunately. idk where i left off but i do know about the endgame things. i do know that the last season sucked! that so many things were off probably contributed to its ending/rushed/unsatisfying endings for beloved characters and stuff with few exceptions.) let me know what you think?

One of thing I love so much about J/H is that they’re an ‘actions speak louder than words’ kind of ship. It’s wasn’t about status or good looks *cough j*lso*

Hyde treats Jackie with respect and loves her for who she is while also calling her out on her bs (Fez and Kelso worship the ground she walks on and Kelso seems too scared to call her out.) They don’t need any of that shiny stuff or status to show how real they are (which is why I lol at anyone comparing them to chuck/blair. They’re clearly dan/blair.).

Jackie inspires Hyde to be more in touch with his emotions and his softer side. He smiles more with her, he seems lighter around her. He can let his walls down with her. One of the only complaints I have about them is that sometimes I feel like Hyde doesn’t really trust Jackie. Like instead of confronting Jackie on whether she was cheating in s5, he ends up cheating. And in s7, when he saw the towel thing, he just left and fucked a stripper in Las Vegas. Not to mention that he STILL kept bringing up the “get off my boyfriend” incident TWO MONTHS after it happened. But for the most part, they’re a great couple.

J/K is self explanatory. Their foundation is bonding over their good looks and what not. There’s nothing substantial about their relationship. All they do is bitch at each other more than half of the time. Not to mention, Kelso kept cheating on her with no guilt. (He only felt sorry that he found out) Also I will never get over Kelso putting the blame on Jackie for his cheating. Like sir, there’s a such thing as having a conversation. Even yelling would be more mature than this or BREAK UP WITH HER.

Someone's probably asked you this before but how long did it take you to plan out the plot for knifetrick? What did you do to come up with everything and do you have any tips for other writers who are struggling to put together their own fics?

after checking out my history lol,

it seems i did serious brainstorming and research for about a week before i started writing.

what happened first was that i had in my head the funny idea of ran failing to kill jackie and them getting tax-benefit married (to make ran feel guilty and admit his plot)

and once i realized i wanted to make it into an actual story, i had to change some of it and come up with plot and reasoning.

the first thing i did was ask my followers for song requests, lol. i asked specifically for “songs about futuristic settings or being married to/loving your assassination target”

i listened to a lot of that music to get my brain juices flowing. i had to put together a couple of Reasons for why things happened. i also knew i couldn’t just write the fic on the assassination alone, or else ran would have nothing to distract him and be the overarching plot, lol

the music helped me picture scenes and concepts. i then just jotted down a bunch of stuff i thought would be interesting to happen (possible scenes)

a couple thoughts on this image— for one you can see that i originally wanted to name my fic after a movie. i looked up ones where assassins grow endeared to their targets and fail to kill them. but i realized i didn’t want to name the fic after a movie in case it was controversial or something, so i ended up going for a song instead. ALSO, as you can tell, some of these points got dropped! again, this was just brainstorming for things i wanted to include

the next thing i did was ask for ranjack classpects, lol. for those unfamilliar with classpecting, it’s sort of like personality types for really sad nerds (/lh). aka, hogwarts houses but more complicated.

@dyketubbo wrote some INCREDIBLE classpects for ran and jackie. it was based off what we knew about their personalities (which wasn’t much) but it also helped us infer a lot MORE about their personalities by figuring out where they could go or how they probably think in their minds.

if you don’t know classpects you can probably do this with personality types. or, just, figure out your characters personality some Normal way. i wouldn’t know.

there was a lot more brainstorming i did (where i came up with ms. laramie, scoots, and clementine) and tried to come up with a basic plot of what would happen and what they would do. during this i did some research on a proper three-act story structure so my plot would hit just right.

during all of this, i watched a bunch of spy and futuristic flicks (not too intensely, just had them on in the background to absorb the vibes).

i then made a plot map once i figured i knew what was gonna happen

(the last few chapters are on the other side of the paper, so you don’t get to see them haha)

a lot of this stuff got switched around or dropped completely as i was writing. honestly, the details don’t matter too much— the FLOW of the story is what’s important.

i’m very flexible with my scenes— literally what happens in a chapter is completely up in the air until i FINISH the chapter. sometimes they’re entirely different from my original ideas. it’s not too important to me what exactly happens, as long as it makes sense and i like it and it fits in with the rest.

in my mind, the events themselves are not as impressive as the characters in them. as long as i’m still developing the characters the way i need to throughout the story, and they eventually get to the plot points i need them to, i don’t worry too much about the specifics! as long as they’re fun.

i also didnt write chapter-by-chapter— i mapped the plot first, and then drew little dividing lines where i thought it would be good to end the chapter after. chapters are useful to me as pacing tools, but i didnt want the plot to seem too episodic by Planning it as chapters.

after i wrote the plot map, i did research on deserts, cities, and fantasy politics for DAYS. (i also watched videos on how fantasy militaries should work.) i ended up not using most of that information i came up with, but the parts that do leak through into my current writing do wonders to make the world feel real and alive. each character has a personality and a life, they aren’t just there to be background characters for ran and jackie.

then, i re-read a few books by authors who really inspire me. to get their narration voice fresh in my mind and feel really inspired

eventually we got to where we are now— i write the chapters and i post them!

as i’ve mentioned, i’m very flexible with my plot— so while i’ve foreshadowed certain things since the beginning, some parts of the story have only come perfectly together towards the end. and i have @shrugofgod to thank for that!

my wonderful editor is always willing to chat with me about what scenes and bits work and are most satisfying story-wise. of course lyssie also EDITS my chapters after they’re drafted — to make them more polished, and also ask me questions about things that are going on to clarify them.

because my chapters have a tendency to get away from me and do whatever they want, if there’s certain plot things i need to hit in a chapter, i’ll outline the chapter before i write it.

also, recently, (after coming up with one too many REALLY COOL scenes and lines in my head while cleaning, but then completely forgetting them later) i’ve implemented a protocol for myself to jot down anything that comes to mind WHEN it happens so i don’t forget.

these are unprofessional and have spelling errors and all that, because i just wrote them really quickly, often while doing the dishes or laundry, lol.

so in conclusion:

um yeah that’s how i write knifetrick! i’ve never done this much work for any other fic though, so don’t feel like YOU have to. i did so much research for knifetrick because it was very out of my wheelhouse.

at most all i think is necessary for a good story is a plot map, and a hell of a lot of inspiration. (i got mine from music, movies, books, and drawing ran and jackie a lot, haha!)

make sure you’re having fun with your plot. writing won’t always be fun, but you should at least like your PLOT. because if you don’t then you won’t be inspired or enjoy it at all!

A/N: Well, I thought I wouldn't do it because I was too invested with this fic, but I've been thinking adult life is so fucking hard that maybe I'll never find the time and inspo to finish this fic, so... well, why not realease it to the world as headcanon/very-poorly-written-fic. If later I find the inspo, maybe I'll write it, maybe not, but I think posting this will lift a heavy weight off me.

Marry My Lover

Bryce had wanted to propose to Eleanor for a while, considering both spontaneous and prepared ways to do it.

One of the first ideas was proposing on a visit to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, as it was the place of their first date. But none of their shifts let them assist for a couple of weeks, so he decided to look for something less complicated.

As he saw their annual meeting with the gang was coming, he decided he would propose on that occasion. Surrounded by friends, the people who helped them get together and supported them in the most difficult times both personally and as a couple.

So he would propose at Donahue’s. With a song, no less. Marry Me by Bruno Mars. A cheerful song, Eleanor loved Bruno Mars and simply matched with the tone he wanted to have on the proposal. Happy and spectacular. He wanted to make her feel the luckiest, most loved woman on earth.

So when he decided what he would do, he shared the news with Sienna so she could help him orchestrate the event. He would arrive a bit later than Eleanor, Sienna would keep her distracted, and then whoop, Bryce would appear at the center of the bar singing the song.

On the day of the meeting, Bryce was in the locker room when he received a text from Sienna: “All set, B! We’re waiting for you”. He breathed deeply, excited and a bit nervous at the same time.

They had talked about marriage, about a life together thousands of times, but it was different just taking the step and doing it, of proposing marriage. Marriage. Damn.

But at the same time, it was just a confirmation of the love they had for each other. Their love that had grown exponentially, to unknown highs and depths in the three years they had been together, and he was sure that their love would keep growing and getting stronger with each day.

After getting ready, he texted Keiki: “Hey Keiks, are you there already?” “Oh, yeah, hidden in the parking lot, super spy.” “Awesome, I’m coming out of the locker room I’ll be there in five” “Okay”

Bryce didn’t want her to miss it for the world. Keiki would kill him if he let that happen. Luckily for both Bryce and Keiki, she was studying close to home, more than close. Cambridge. BS in Physics at MIT, so as she was living just a few minutes away from Boston, they saw each other pretty regularly, once a week or once every two weeks depending on how busy the three were.

Keiki was excited about it, but there was just this strange smirk on her. Bryce thought it was just the fact that her brother would propose to Eleanor at last.

Once at the bar, he greeted their friends, Elijah, coming from Chicago, Jackie, from Baltimore, and Sienna coming from New York. Aurora was the only one living in Boston, working at Brigham and Women’s Hospital as attending and part of the new Diagnostic Team there.

Everyone was happy but at the same time with this strange smirk, like they were hiding something.

“And Elle?” he asked.

A few moments after the question was made, a guitar started to play. He looked at the center of the bar, and found Eleanor, on a yellow dress, and matched hatband playing guitar and singing: We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January And this is our place, we make the rules And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear Have I known you twenty seconds or twenty years?

Bryce couldn’t believe his eyes. His ears. His skin. How a shiver ran down his spine, making tingle every inch of him; how his stomach fluttered at the sight of her there, beautiful and singing and… Surprising him.

It was Lover by Taylor Swift, because, how not, his girlfriend was a Swiftie since High School, so once a Swiftie, always a Swiftie.

Bryce knew almost every song of the last two albums she had released in the last couple of years because they had blasted the speakers of their home for weeks. Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close? Forever and ever, ah Take me out, and take me home You're my, my, my, my lover

After singing the chorus, Eleanor handed the guitar to Rafael, who continued with the melody, and took the mic in one hand, singing the second verse as she started walking slowly towards him. We could let our friends crash in the living room This is our place, we make the call She took his hand on hers and softly pulled him to the center of the bar

And when Eleanor sang “And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you”, both chuckled knowingly, because they knew how true that was, wherever he goes, he enchants.

I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want 'em all

It had been three summers indeed and nor he or she couldn’t imagine a summer without each other.

Eleanor kept singing, every word with meaning, it was like the song was written for them, especially “I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover” Because who else on this planet was a magnetic force but him?

Bryce was beaming the whole song, smiling, laughing, biting his lip, showing how happy, flattered, incredulous and in love he was.

He couldn’t believe his luck. To this day, after more than three years, sometimes he still couldn’t believe he had the chance to love so much and be so loved. So happy, so free, so understood. And he would probably live this luck, this love, forever and ever with her.

When the song ended, Eleanor took out something from the pocket of her yellow dress. A velvet box. When she opened it, a silver ring with a diamond at the center shined under the multicolor lights of the bar. Eleanor took his hand in hers and kissed his knuckles softly before asking: “Bryce Lahela, mi amor, we both know we want to spend the rest of our lives together. In these three years you have made me nothing but happy. The happiest luckiest woman alive. I want that for the rest of our lives. Would you marry me?”

“Yes,” he said, eyes sparkling, shining so bright with emotions, with love, with adoration, with happiness, “Yes, babe, yes! The only thing I want is to spend the rest of my life with you!”

Everyone cheered, Sienna was crying, Kyra too, and even Keiki had shed a tear.

Eleanor put a ring on his finger and both kissed sweetly in the middle of the bar.

After a few moments, Bryce kissed her hand and chuckled, “Well, now it’s my turn.”

Eleanor stared confused at him, and when she heard him shouting “Música maestro!” she understood.

Eleanor couldn't believe it either. When the notes of Marry Me by Bruno Mars started playing, she covered her mouth with her hands just like Cecilia Bolocco when she won Miss Universe in 1986. “No way, love!” she squealed.

After a few verses, Bryce took her hand and turned her to the wall, where a video was playing. Videos of colleagues, nurses, even patients, with thumbs up singing along “Don't say no, no, no, no, no, Just say yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah” Then, her parents showed up in the video, beaming as they sang along too. Even her grandparents from Chile, Ricardo and Ofelia, appeared in the video asking the same.” “Oh my god,” Eleanor couldn't hold it anymore and simply let the tears fall. Tears of joy, of happiness.

Then Bryce started to walk around the bar, singing with a persuasive tone, asking the patrons to join him in his singing, as if he had to convince her to marry him. Friendly patrons would nod and show their thumbs up and sing along for a couple of seconds.

Once the song ended, Bryce bend on one knee and took the velvet box out of the pocket of his pants, where a beautiful rose gold ring was there, with a round diamond at the center and smaller at the sides. “Well, you won me. This was my idea too, but you were faster, or maybe you had friends who took your side and decided to help you instead of me.” Everyone chuckled. “Or maybe she just asked before you did,” Jackie teased. “Either way, I’m honored and flattered, but I couldn’t miss the opportunity to propose to you. It's interesting how we don't really know what type of father JFK would've been. Like we know he was a great father to his babies but its interesting to speculate how he would've been like when the kids got older. Would he have been strict? (doubt it lol, he spoiled them a lot) would he have been protective? would he have liked their girlfriends/boyfriends?.

I think they would've moved back to MA or moved to Newport since Jack liked to live in a place near water. I also think he would've wanted John to go to Choate bc he went there but idk.

It's also interesting how he and bobby almost bought an NFL team while he was president lol. I think it was the philadelphia eagles but something came up and they didn't buy it. JFK wanted to buy bc he was afraid he was gonna be bored when he was out of office. Others say he wanted to buy the Washington Post after he left the White House so he could become a journalist. He would've been 51 when he left, he was really young when you look at it.

Yeah it is kinda hard to gauge what kind of dad he'd be as Caroline and John got older and of course the problems in their lives get more complicated. I don't think he'd be strict but I think he'd definitely be serious when the time called for it and be able to be a disciplinarian but not in a mean way, more in a I-know-you-can-do-better-and-I-want-you-to way. He definitely would have been protective over Caroline because that was his baby. I can also see him being protective over John just not in the same way as with Caroline. With Caroline I feel like he'd be more socially protective and with John he'd be more academically and career wise protective. The topic of how he'd react about boyfriends and girlfriends is something I can't give a guess either way. Jackie was quite protective over John and if Jackie didn't like you/didn't think you were a good match for John you were gone. John really relied on Jackie for advice in that respect and she was the checkpoint. I think Jack would probably be more relaxed with both of them. Maybe a little more protective with Caroline. As long as there weren't any glaring problems and red flags, he would most likely be chill.

I can see if he had lived and won the second term, after everything he would have wanted to move back to MA/one of the New England states. Them moving to NYC was a very Jackie thing and I don't think Jack would have been on board with that. I do agree that he would have wanted John to go to Choate but I feel like if John chose Andover or another school he wouldn't be upset as long as John considered it and/or applied. Concord Academy (where Caroline went) and Andover are only 30 minutes away so I think he would see the benefit of them being close together.

It's also interesting to think about what he would have done career wise after the presidency because I feel like he would want to take a couple years off and then go into journalism/business. He probably would have invested in a NFL team or something just because lol.

MORE THOUGHTS ABOUT SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS !!!

Heads up that this entire post is riddled with spoilers, though I'm going to try to keep them hidden under the cut :D

**SPOILERS***

The movie starts off with an absolutely banging prologue, which is basically 15 mins (roughly) of set up that tells the story of Wenwu and the Ten Rings. It's spoken entirely in Mandarin, and we get back story about Wenwu - how the Ten Rings made him immortal, and he's used them for a thousand years to amass a vast organization that covers the globe. Then we get his meeting with Jiang Li who turns out to be Shang-Chi's mom, and their first meeting is that gorgeous bamboo fight in the trailers that is absolutely SWOON WORTHY and the sexiest, most romantic stuff EVER SEEN in the MCU. This entire segment is actually my favorite part of the movie lol, and actually reminds me of the way X-Men Apocalypse is structured, with that sequence with En Sabah Nur in ancient Egypt kicking things off (incidentally that was my favorite part of XMA too lol).

There were a LOT of close-up shots of Tony Leung's face (I know because I was LOOKING); they did not let an ounce of that man's on-screen presence/charisma go to waste.

I enjoyed Simu Liu as Shang Chi, but I don't really have a strong opinion about his performance. He was great in the fight scenes, charming in his scenes with Katy, and had good sibling chemistry with Xialing. He's weakest in his scenes with Tony Leung, mostly because TL sets the bar so high it's pretty much impossible to match his ability to deliver nuance or convey his state of mind.

There's quite a bit of flashback that's interspersed throughout the movie, which I LOVED; they really enhanced the story and the relationships by showing what happened at various times between Wenwu, the kids and their mother. I especially loved the way they would show the same scene from different POVs, or shift it about 1 min before or after to show us new information as the story progressed. It's my favorite story telling conceits just A+++.

I've said this before but it's worth repeating...the action IS great, and the sequences are some of the best ever in the MCU. BUT I didn't walk away thinking it was the best thing EVER, simply because I grew up watching kung fu movies so the bar is pretty fucking high lol. It's probably why I liked the bus scene more than the scaffolding fight scene; there's a lot of ingenuity and use of space in the first scene that I hadn't seen before, whereas I feel like I've seen a variation of the second scene in a hundred Jacky Chan movies.

People who were under-utilized in the movie - Michelle Yeoh as Shang-Chi's aunt and the actor who played Death Dealer. There was so little screen time given to their characters, and except for one short fight (Jiang Nan with Shang-Chi, and Shang-Chi with Death Dealer) we didn't get to see them in action. I would have much preferred cutting down on the big CGI monster mash to focus on more one on one battles, possibly even between these two characters!

The battle between Wenwu and Shang-Chi in Ta Lo (the climax) is so emotional and so well done; they were really able to use the action to tell the complicated relationship between father and son. In fact, it's truly excellent until the requisite monster mash (giant bat thing called Dweller in Darkness shows up and starts throwing down with the big white dragon Great Protector) and then it just deteriorates into a loud, jumbled, hard to see mess of CGI. Maybe because I'm Chinese the imagery of a big dragon in flight wasn't new or all that impressive, so I'm going to assume that ymmv with the third act depending on how you feel about CG monsters. Incidentally my kids both loved it :D

Though I understand it completely from a story telling perspective (it's a great and resonant ending for Wenwu to sacrifice himself for his son) and also from a casting perspective (no way Tony Leung is going to come back and play the same character again in anymore movies lol) I was still disappointed that his character was killed off. He was SUCH a wonderful, interesting, COMPLICATED antagonist, and Marvel really needs to stop killing off their best villains in one off movies lol.

Everybody always makes such a fuss about the post credit scenes I mean...sure we saw Carol Danvers and Bruce Banner but did they really contribute anything to the scene itself lol? I AM curious about the second scene with Xialing taking over the Ten Rings organization though...I hope that sets up some conflict for the siblings in the future to work through.

This movie wouldn't be nearly as good if they hadn't gotten Tony Leung to play Wenwu; he's really that awesome/central to the story. Seriously A+++++++++ to Marvel for getting him onboard.

haha i love it, thank you. yeah Marvin’s emotions towards Chase are already REALLY complicated and sometimes conflicting and Henrik is just desperate for Chase to tell him that he was mind-controlled or something when he killed Jackie and to help him get better from whatever’s happened to him and JJ is like “oh I’ve heard so much about this person” and then when they find Chase it’s like... they spent a long, long time wondering what he’d say and do when they found him but none of them ever expected this lol. like Henrik probably walks toward him all slow and shocked and then Chase just like turns invisible and climbs a tree or something lmao. he’s feral, magical, and has no recollection of any of them - or of killing Jackie.

like should they still be angry at him? should they be trying to restrain him, is he dangerous? why are there two of him?? which one is Chase and which one is Anti? should they be sad for him and still try to help? what the hell is going on??

and in the end, even though Marvin kind of wants to take his revenge, and Henrik really needs closure on what happened, and JJ is a little scared that his friends are just setting themselves up to be hurt by Chase again, they can’t just leave him like this. he needs help - Marvin’s magical expertise, Henrik’s medical knowledge, and a little love and care from actual humans. otherwise he’s just going to be this lost changeling with no connection to anything but Anti for the rest of his life. it’s not a good way to live, though Chase and Anti are mostly content as long as they feel safe.

it’s not the closure that anyone wanted. but as they help Chase assimilate and get to know this weird shape-shifting creature who refuses to be moved from his side or to stop threatening to steal their elbows, they start to kind of find their friend again. like, it’s screwed up that he doesn’t remember killing Jackie, but... maybe it’s for the best?? Henrik, for all that he feels guilty about it, feels like this supernatural version of his friend is more Chase than the Chase who shot Jackie was. it’s not even close.

and he learns to love Chase again, just the way he is. Chase gets attached to him after a few weeks, when he realizes no one here is trying to hurt him or his monster.

JJ gets accustomed to the situation after only a couple days and from then on he’s nothing but cheerful with Chase and Anti!! Anti actually decides he will kidnap this one too when he and Chase leave (but then they never leave). for Marvin’s part, he tries to chase Anti out of the house a few times and really wants him gone for the first couple months, blaming Anti for what Chase has become. at one point, he wards the house to keep Anti out, but then Anti and Chase are just spending the whole day standing on opposite sides of the window and looking SO sad, so Marvin has to let him back in. eventually Marvin starts letting go of what Chase and Anti did to Jackie, knowing Jackie would want him to forgive him and do what’s best for him now. even if ‘what’s best for him’ includes keeping this dumb-ass fairy in his house. Marv helps teach Chase to control his weird powers and shit and Chase gets close with all of them again.

eventually, seeing how happy Chase is, Anti stops trying to take him away. and maybe even gets a little bit attached to the rest of these stupid humans, even if Marvin does keep smacking the back of his head every time he says he’ll eat him. as the years go by, Anti grows more and more accustomed to humanity. he and Marvin work magic together, JJ teaches him even more card games than he and Chase used to play, and Henrik makes Anti genuinely laugh (or cackle, in his case) with his dry, dark humor. when he hears that Henrik tried for a really long time to time travel, Anti says that he’s heard of fairies who could do that and maybe he could find one for Henrik. but Henrik, after all those wasted years, says no. he’s looked behind him for too long. time to start looking forward.

they keep Jackie’s picture on the fireplace and Anti shows them how to light lanterns for his spirit on Samhain. he tells them he can feel that Jackie is close to all of them, and that he’s happy and loves them all.

things are pretty good.

(and, luckily for Anti, they never figure out that he was the one who put their friend Jack in a coma... let sleeping youtubers lie)

Corruption AU

Catch me tempted to start a whole AU based off my theory that Chase got corrupted at the end of Dark Silence and is living through slowly changing and growing sick and discovering freaky powers he didn’t have before and realizing this is what his comatose best friend went through before the August 3rd/March 5th operation was hijacked by Anti.

Oh god this might be a temporary muse but god am I about to blow it up real quick anyway. There’s details on it below the cut.

Henrik is the one who put Jack in the coma and regrets it deeply. Half-possessed by Anti in the moment he did it, he knew Jack would die unless he induced a coma to stabilize him easier than blindly trying to figure out how Anti his possessed self was killing him.

He wasn’t gone for 9 months but rather 2. In-game the time Jack flatlined was March 5th, 2018 and Henrik reappeared May 3rd, 2018. He has barely revealed any info about what happened in that time, but any time he’s opened up about it to the other egos, Jack’s comatose body, or in vlogs on the channel, he gets extremely anxious and can’t elaborate. He’s trying to coach himself into healing enough to tell the story so it won’t happen to others.

It wasn’t one big operation from August 3rd, 2017 to March 5th, 2018. Jack was in the hospital on and off suffering severe affects from Anti’s constant assaults on him. Anti hijacked the August 3rd operation and March 5th operations. He might’ve hijacked a few in-between but nowhere near the level of chaos and damage on those two days. (I haven’t decided yet lol).

Henrik saved Chase’s life after a suicide attempt soon after his divorce was filed (Bro Average) and is very protective of him, but stretches himself incredibly thin between caring for Jack, watching over Chase, and dealing with his own trauma.

Obviously Chase took over the channel for Jack in his place. The community is suspecting he’s him and not Jack slowly, which he’s somewhat worried about, but hasn’t seen any anger about it yet so he feels like it won’t be a big horrific reveal if he ever gives up the facade and comes clean. It was hard enough watching Henrik’s vlog announcing Jack’s coma.

Being that he’s running the channel in Jack’s place when that’s (one of many things?) what Anti wants to do in order to gain more power, Anti attacked him (Dark Silence) and this is how/why Chase is slowly suffering the slow corruption Jack did from October 2016 to now.

Chase blacked out for a very long time after Dark Silence but beelined for Henrik when he came to his senses. When he found Henrik, he started to grow unstable again and broke down about being cornered by Anti and not knowing what was happening to him now before completely snapping again. Henrik had to fend him off, restrain him, and then had a minor trauma-related meltdown because his best friend is going through what he did on August 3rd and March 5th. Little does he know, this is going to progress far beyond just two one-off traumatic possessions and a two month kidnapping.

Anti lurks around constantly in between times harassing the community or toying with Jack’s comatose body on occasion. He’s watching and very much savoring the downward spiral Chase is in. A majority of what’s happened since May 2018 has been Chase glitching and acting strange rather than Anti, hence the camera/screen glitching more often than his physical body. The remaining fractions of cryptic/glitchy videos has been Anti hacking into the channel and reminding the community he’s lurking. After each time he’s done this, Henrik and Chase have had to reset all passwords to Jack’s social media that they’ve been using to make sure he’s kept out.

Sometimes Chase doesn’t feel/realize/see the recording getting meddled with by himself until well after its uploaded and he sees the community panicking about it, other times he’s well aware it’s going on and is acting that way on camera on purpose because he’s experiencing corruption affects or having blackouts. He‘s ashamed of himself for letting the community see what’s happening to him. Little did he know Anti had cameras record what he did to Chase and uploaded it to the channel so they all already know something is deeply wrong with Chase. He doesn’t have the will to go into detail about everything and clarify, so even though he’s upset about all the different speculations and theories about what’s going on because most of them are incorrect, he’d rather leave them to their own devices because the truth is complicated and messy and would be way too much to explain in a video or post.

Not only Chase, but Henrik keeps in close communication with the community. He keeps them up to date on Jack’s condition, how he personally is doing, how anniversaries and birthdays go, if Anti makes any appearances off-screen around them, his progress with finding Marvin and small updates from Jackie.

Jackie and Marvin are Henrik’s best friends since before Henrik met Chase. They all met through Jack. The coma struck all three of them with different kinds of grief. Jackie stopped heroing for a while and has kept a pretty low profile. He’s too distraught to fight as hard as he usually does and he’s also terrified he’s next on Anti’s list. He Probably Is. Marvin has completely vanished and nobody has heard from him. The truth is, he’s wiped himself off the radar to practice every type of magic he can find a way to learn about. He’s relentlessly training himself to avenge Jack and keep Anti away from the others.

Jameson is a sort of wild card buzzing around wherever needed. He typically hangs around Henrik, who saved him between operations on Jack. Anti attacked him the moment he was created to get him either on his side or out of the picture so he had less loose ends to tie up. He mutilated Jameson’s throat and left him for dead (though Jameson was created mute, the subtle throat scar he has is a common misconception people have when they first meet him). Jackie and Marvin found him, brought him to Henrik, and he was saved. Now recovered, he’s slowly taught Jackie, Marvin, and Chase BSL (Henrik already knew it in case of disabled patients), and floats between places doing whatever he can to help. He knows minor medical assistance from Henrik and helps him with Jack sometimes, he guards Jack’s hospital room (he’s got rapidly developing time powers and he’s not afraid to use them), practices said developing powers on his down time, and just generally does whatever small things he can to make life easier on the other four.

Jackie and Marvin had no idea Dark Silence happened until they both (at separate times on their own) found Anti’s footage on the channel. They’ve sunken even deeper into the grieving/coping methods they developed after Jack went into a coma.

Quit the Game to Win, most (if not all) of the X Scary Games, 1 Video series, any other videos we’ve had random, strange, fiery panic-worthy behavior and glitches from since May 2018 are all Chase. If someone were to watch the videos consecutively, Chase’s deterioration would be a lot more clear, a lot more scary, and a lot more heartbreaking.

So far Chase’s side affects are small glitches, mood swings, nose bleeds, ears ringing, nightmares, random blackouts (usually in which he does cryptic shit or uncharacteristic and unnerving behavior during), headaches, paranoia, and several other (mostly mental) symptoms.

For now, Henrik and Chase are waiting things out. Both of them are very stressed, scared, and tired.

13 books this month. (haha, half of what i read in january, but i knew i wasn’t going to duplicate that, no way.) a pretty mixed bag.

in praise of shadows - junichiro tanizaki ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ a really really interesting non fiction work on japanese versus western aesthetics, the use of shadows and light, darkness and exposure. talks about architecture, art, people, culture, theatre... i enjoyed this a lot.

beneath a scarlet sky - mark sullivan ⭐️⭐️⭐️ a good story, extremely badly told. it’s a novel of italy in wwii, following a young man who falls in love, guides jews to switzerland, becomes a spy... a lot happens. it’s heavily based the true story of pino lella’s life but man the author should have stuck to bare facts (even if there weren’t many) because his writing is... not good. not structurally, or narratively, or just his prose.

the fever king - victoria lee ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ this book gave me the always frustrating horror of showing kids being manipulated by adults and the kids don’t know it but you the reader do know it and it’s AGONY. queer teen scifi in a dystopian future where magic manifests as a sickness and those who overcome it develop powers. the world-building was really really interesting, the writing was tight, the characters were amazing. THEY’RE MY KIDS NOW. really looking forward to the sequel.

yellow crocus - laila benjamin ⭐️⭐️⭐️ another well meaning book, lovingly told, but badly told. a novel about an enslaved black wet nurse and her charge, the white daughter of her master, with whom she develops a deep motherly bond. the novel follows them from lisbeth’s (the child) birth to the birth of her own child.you can tell that a lot of research and care and love went into this book, and it didn’t skeeve me off in the usual ways that books about slavery written by non-black people usually do... but it just wasn’t very well written.

boystown 2 - marshall thornton ⭐️⭐️⭐️ second set of stories about a gay private eye solving mysteries in the 80s. in this instalment, nick juggles things with his sort-of-not-really boyfriend, gets complicated feelings about his ex-boyfriend, and has bunch of sex with a bunch of guys who aren’t either of those men. interesting mysteries once again, though one of them kinda ticked me off.

no two ways - chi yu rodriguez ⭐️⭐️⭐️ contemporary f/f romance about a bi girl who hooks up with a lesbian and starts falling for her pretty quickly... but then finds out she’s a huge biphobe. this was good...? but the leads had almost no chemistry, it took too long for jackie to get an attitude change, and when she did, she got off way too easily.

northanger abbey - jane austen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ fun stuff, very enjoyable. i really like how austen does humour, and there’s some good stuff in here about sexist microaggressions and the art of novels. and i really liked the hero.

proper english - k.j. charles ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ AHHHHHH. i really like k.j. charles, and i was SO EXCITED when i found out she’d dipped her toes into f/f romance. this was wonderful. a very satisfying mystery, the kind that gives all the right hints and clues and allows the reader to figure it out if they’re paying attention, but introduces just enough doubt that you’re not sure. and the characters! the romance! i loved these two women in their first appearance in ‘think of england’ I LOVED THEM EVEN MORE HERE. pat’s assertiveness, fen’s flirtiness... gah.

perfect rhythm - jae ⭐️⭐️⭐️ contemporary f/f/ romance with an ace protag. very cute, if a bit... idk wooden at times? in the writing, the way asexuality was talked about, some of the delivery of the jokes. it definitely wasn’t bad; the characters were complicated and flawed in real ways, and i feel like their romance progressed very naturally, and it was super fulfilling in the end. it just needed a little something more, writing-wise. also, did not enjoy the way it treated the closeted side character. :/

the gentleman and the rogue - bonnie dee & summer devon ⭐️⭐️ this book made me realise... i don’t think i’ve ever read a fiction book written by two authors that i thoroughly enjoyed? i just don’t gel with most people’s approaches to co-writing. not that that was the only thing wrong with this book. historical m/m romance between a veteran lord and the guttersnipe he hires as his new valet. i don’t like rich/poor romance where the rich person doesn’t buy a clue, i don’t like structural inequality played straight, i don’t like plots that are so thin it seems like the author didn’t want to write one. and the writing itself left much to be desired.

scrap metal - harper fox ⭐️⭐️⭐️ really sweet contemporary m/m romance set on a small scottish island, between a phd student who has suddenly been called back to work on the farm he grew up on, and the mysterious man who shows up on the farm in the middle of the night. i really like harper fox’s writing; she can sometimes have the loveliest way with words. and the romance was super well done. my nitpicks with this book are kinda silly but i had them all the same. it hit some squicks of mine and also i really don’t like when harper fox slips in the paranormal as a side-element int he books. why? i don’t know! but i don’t like it.

switchback - s.w. andersen ⭐️⭐️ i only got this audiobook because i really like nicol zanzarella, the narrator. and i mean it’s lesbian romance featuring a mountain bike rider and a chiropractor? neat right? wrong, it was boring and badly written. alas! man i hate omniscient pov, especially for romance.

mama black widow - iceberg slim ⭐️⭐️⭐️ semi-biographical novel of a black drag queen living in the ghettos of 1960s chicago. follows him from childhood to his prime to his decline, with a heavy focus on his childhood and relationship with his mother and the many tragedies that befell him and this family. heavy focus on race, sexuality, and violence. (don’t go into this without hella warnings.) i enjoyed it, mostly, though i felt that doylist misogyny coming through hard. it was written in the 1960s and it shows lol.

and that’s it for february. i started a new job today and probably won’t have a lot of reading time, but i’ll continue to do as much audiobooking as i can on public transportation. currently doing a reread of the hobbit, which i 100% started as a self comfort thing, and will probably be ready very sparsely throughout the month. going to start a hundred little lies.

I don’t have as extensive a list of like favorite songs/eras but here are some things:

-Bim and Wilford love Taylor, probably Silver Shepherd too

- no one talks about how “New Romantics” is such a good Wilford song but it is:

“I could build a castle out of all the bricks they threw at me” he creates a new reality out of the things that happen to him, and it also makes him very powerful

“too busy dancing to get knocked off our feet” is WMLW when Wilford is literally dancing to avoid facing Abe & the consequences of what he’s done

“we play dumb but we know exactly what we’re doing” & “he can’t see it in my face but im about to play my ace” he’s acting clueless and goofy but really is holding all the power

“please leave me stranded; it’s so romantic” a warped & unusual view of reality

“every day is like a battle, but every night with us is like a dream” again, WMLW. Abe is initially so intent on bringing Wilford down but comes to realize that there’s no escape or control in his situation so it makes more sense just to go w/ it and dance with Wilford

“honey, life is just a classroom” fits with the WKM ‘life is...’ motif (’life is for the living’ etc.) - so does “the best people in life are free,” kinda

“we need love but all we want is danger, we team up then switch sides like a record changer” - basically what happened between Actor Mark, Celine, and William 

“the rumors are terrible and cruel but honey, most of them are true” just flat-out sounds like something Wilford would say

the general ‘life is garbage and everyone is terrible so we might as well ignore it and DANCE’ vibe of the whole song

The first verse is about Actor Mark obviously, and the second verse could be as well but a playboy spending someone else’s money could also be Wilford (from Celine’s pov), and “burning all the witches even if you’re not one” is LITERALLY ‘he did say he wanted me to be the villain - maybe he should be more careful what he wishes for’ from Damien. 

‘Safe and Sound’ reminds me of Celine earlier in Damien, and ‘The Man’ has huge Celine energy too.

This is oddly specific but every time I listen to the Grammy Museum version of “Wildest Dreams” I think about how if we ever got a video with the story of their affair, it would be the perfect song for the trailer. Also I feel like “False God” could be about Celine & Actor Mark.

“Sad Beautiful Tragic” is darkstache angst bc “you’ve got your demons and darling they all look like me” but on the other side of the spectrum “ME!” is darkstache fluff because “living in winter I am your summer” (aka Damien finding the pink flower) and the general message of ‘I can be A Lot but I’m fun & I love you!!’

siobhan, i’m gonna be real, i have ALWAYS wanted a livewire for siobhan. livewire would make, like, the perfect addition to the denny guardians. and she 500% deserves better than what she got in canon, so everybody wins!

otherwise maybe a winn?? i think i’ve talked about this before but i have a soft spot for winn and siobhan’s dynamic, and i think it’d be interesting for them to interact now that she’s developed a lot...

for sara... hm probably one of the legends (idk if i can narrow down favorites, kendra, snart, zari, jax maybe...) or most definitely an e-1 laurel! which would, y’know, cause a lot of catastrophic conflict, but also sara and e-1 laurel deserve their reunion, so,

bramblestar... you know i’d really love to see one of the journey cats on denny?? we had a few of them at various times -- squirrelflight, feathertail, giz tried out crowpaw briefly. but man i would LOVE to have bramblestar interact with tawnypelt, or really... any of his half-siblings, because he and hawkfrost obviously have a lot of conflict, and he and mothwing. never get to fucking interact and there’s so much potential there. anyway if bramblestar had any kind of sibling on denny it would definitely be super interesting, given tigerstar’s presence and the conflict tigerclan presents in general.

or you know who i’ve always thought would be a really interesting warrior cat to see on denny? goldenflower. because i have a lot of questions about her relationship with tigerstar that the books never answered. and also, give bramblestar his mom back,

for dolores.... i think it’d be really interesting to have a teddy!!! they have so much unresolved shit they need to deal with, and it’d be... sad and complicated with dolores dating laurel now. otherwise, virtually any of the characters you apped/tried out were fucking great, or i would love to have a bernard sometime especially with their mounting conflict.

or i’ve always thought dolores would have really interesting conversations with emily....

camille.... well you’ve mentioned wanting to try out jackie and obviously i would LOVE that. camille and jackie’s relationship is really. poignant to me but i also think they have a lot of unresolved, sad stuff going on. i think camille... forgives jackie or is trying to because she’s also trying to forgive herself for what happened with marian, and she loves jackie so much and jackie was sometimes the only thing that made her childhood bearable, but yeah. also there’d be a lot of potential for funny stuff obviously but there’s something legitimately impressive about jackie’s ability to get dirt on EVERYONE so i have to wonder like, what else she’d get into,

and then.... jay tried her out for a bit (and was wonderful with her) but i would fuckin kill to have an amma long term. i think amma is a wonderfully. painfully complex character who you could do a lot with in rp and admittedly i also just, want to give her and camille some kind of closure arc because they REALLY deserve it, 

i don’t know if anyone would ever try her out because she’s only in one episode but maybe alice too?? although i might cry too hard for that,

sly’s answer is surprisingly like, “too many to count”, because i realized how many sly cooper characters i would LOVE to see on denny. obviously there’s carmelita but i think fate is still planning on apping her eventually?? so besides her... definitely bentley or murray! how could i not want sly to have his best friends... and i also think someone like neyla has a hell of a lot of potential (good balance of ‘scary villain who would do shit’ and ‘potential to flesh out some legitimate complexity’) and that clockwerk if played right would be a TERRIFYING threat and.... someone like dimitri could make a fun comic relief character, or i have such a soft spot for the panda king

or really, honestly, ANY of the cooper ancestors, and so many of those are fan favorites so i’m always holding out hope that someone will pick one of those up! consider: rioichi and nyssa would get along INCREDIBLY well,

So I'm sitting here at 6am in the quiet, eating my breakfast and drinking yesterday's leftover coffee, trying to figure out how to take these characters I was writing and make them more... My own? More entirely my own?

This wouldn't really be an issue if they were original characters to begin with, but uh. I was writing WTNV... There were some OCs in there that I did make up, but they don't really make sense out of the context of their story, and EVERYONE'S story hinges on them living in Night Vale. :/

In the RP we went well away from the podcast's canon and just kinda did our own thing. Nothing past Strex rolling into town is the same in the RP as it is in the show. And there's... Also a robot AU that was just so damn good. (This was before the Detroit Become Gay boys. Now I probably can't touch any android story with a 10 foot pole without someone assuming it's robocop fanfic. Oh my poor robutts...)

So I put a lot (A LOT) of work into A FUCKING LOT of the characters. I started writing Carlos back when all we had were Cecil's vague descriptions, and some voicemails as recoded by Jeffrey Cranor. My Carlos is absolutely NOT the podcast's Carlos. (My Erikas turned out to be dead-on which is hilarious, but that's a different story)

I can't begin to explain how many characters I built in this RP, and to what detail, because I'd literally be here all day writing essays. But like, I think total, I wrote maybe 3 actual characters from the show? Carlos, the Erikas, and occasionally Big Rico. Everyone else I wrote was an OC, and they all had something to make them special, and they all helped drive the various plots. I had a recurring Secret Police officer, Carlos' entire team of scientists, Carlos' parents (who are actually the fucking best, fight me) a guy from Desert Bluffs who was trying to figure out how to make... basically cyborgs, more or less. For funsies I even gave Big Rico a son who was stuck in a similar situation as Jackie Fierro, because why not. But it became this whole THING that was tied into a main plot of the robot au and went well beyond “oh no I can’t age”.

Like, stuff in both the original RP and the robot au got real complex and (I think anyway) really awesome

And I feel silly for investing so much into a story that's not even mine. Why not just work on my own origial stuff? I don't know.

But also this RP went so far off canon that I feel like it IS my own stuff at this point. The only recognizable things about it are people's names, and the towns they're in. Take those away and I bet you no one would ever know what it was based off. (Except you would because of me going on about it right now)

But any of y'all familiar with wtnv know how very particular that town is. So you might understand why, once these characters and these stories are removed from the town, there's no more catalyst for weird shit to happen. And the weird shit is not necessarily the main driving factor, but it IS usually the thing that initially kicks off each plot

If I take everyone out of Night Vale and try to somehow work this into an original thing, I don't know how well it would hold up. Like. Sure there's a way to replace the weirdness, I just don't know how without making it totally recognizable. I don't know if I'd be doing some gross, weird fan thing. I don't know if it'd be kinda desperate/pathetic on my part.

I've frequently mentioned to the (ex)writing partner that I'd wanted to just make it our own thing, but at best I've gotten "yeah maybe one day when we're done with all our ideas for this", or "but I can't think of how though, lol"

I've mentioned different ideas on it several times. Things that could potentially take this away from being essentially a really complicated fanfic. But those have been ignored or dismissed, and so out of frustration I stopped suggesting things, and now I don't remember what any of it is

Hurg. I don't know. Would I even actually work on this thing by myself? Probably not.
