#ISAT Siffrin#ISAT#ISAT Spoilers#TEoRttSA Spoilers#<<Schrano Art>>#Production Techniques not listed this time#They're the same as the previous ones#but better!#Practice makes perfect and all that.#General Production Comments:#Technically much more complex#Changed how the lights work from emissives to point lights.#Had a lot of fun with this one#Couldn't get the image of it out of my mind from the second I read the lines in the fic#Just sorta knew I had to make it real.#I really liked the idea of having the cracks physically manifest for a piece in the same pattern as the King's but more fragmented.#It was fun getting to draw Disguise 2#I grayscaled actual leather as a colour base for the top.#The colours contrast pretty well in my opinion.#It's fun getting to draw Siffrin in different outfits than their cloak#And also provides me a nice challenge when he's all small like that in the center of the frame.#Not a lot of pixels to work with I'll say that much.#I can't say it enough#I really enjoyed working on this one#It was a blast.

Something I've been thinking about is how Patrick O'Brian manages so skillfully to write characters whose actions contradict their beliefs, which I think is honestly a big part of why his characters feel so real. Mostly with Stephen and Jack—e.g., and perhaps most notably, Stephen has notably leftist sympathies (honestly I have no idea how to characterize his politics in period terms) who nonetheless becomes very comfortable with his rise to the landed gentry, while Jack is a card-carrying Tory who much of the time sympathizes far more with working class sailors and farmers than with the upper classes—but I'm sure he does it to a lesser degree with some of his minor characters (James Dillon, while perhaps not precisely minor, comes to mind), and I love that he's able to do that, especially the way in which he embeds it in the narrative. We see how they're all unreliable narrators of themselves; we understand how they want to be seen and how that does and doesn't coincide with the reality, but most importantly, this isn't presented as something reprehensible, just as a part of their own humanity. They are not their expectations for themselves, but they don't need to be those expectations to be beloved.
#stephen is especially guilty of this and i think it's very interesting how he thinks of himself versus how he acts#which is probably an essay on its own#but i do think that this is another point he and jack make a fun foil on#(for jack this manifests much less explicitly but i think it's definitely still there)#i can't think of other characters atm besides james dillon#(who okay. his actions don't contradict his beliefs exactly but there is a weird and complex relationship between them)#though i do suspect that there are probably more#idk i've been thinking about this a lot because o'brianizing hornblower has brought to the forefront#how different those two authors treat internal/external narratives#patrick o'brian is kind of like yeah they don't really line up but that's okay that's just what it's like to be a person#while for hornblower and cs forester it's like the internal narrative is so unbelievably unreliable and negative#but the external narrative also seems to be resoundingly positive#(which is probably why. in my humble opinion having watched two episodes of it. the tv show is much more Fun)#writing hornblower in o'brian format is just like wow there is no weirdness going on did i write him wrong#but no it's hornblower he just sounds so much more normal without the 24/7 mental gymnastics#perce rambles#aubreyad

idk. nihilism vs absurdism. fun duo 👍 rodya would find meursault's genuine comfort with being a speck of dust in the universe baffling, while he would probably find her desire to assert her own importance pointless, but they could probably bond over little things like their shared desire to live in the present and appreciation of/indulgence in earthly joys. and meursault would probably listen if rodya wants to rant about anything without asking any uncomfortable questions. I think they could appreciate each other's presence.

i think one of the reasons i’m so drawn to xue yang (besides Hot. and Vaguely Evil) is that every time i see him i’m staring at an alternate universe wei wuxian. he and wwx are absolutely each other’s ‘what could have been’ and watching them interact is so fascinating
#you can so clearly see how despite beginning in the same situation their paths diverged so early on in life#and then we get into the nurture vs nature debate#i’m willing to argue a bit of both here#wwx is so fundamentally justice oriented and we see what lengths he will go to to defend that#literally with his life#i don’t think you could ever change that but i do think the (limited) care of the jiangs certainly shaped him#xue yang seems so fundamentally drawn to cruelty#but it’s hard to see where the pain of abandonment and thirst for revenge separates from his nature#i think he would have always been interested in cruelty i think that aspect of him cannot be changed#if he just wanted revenge he would have stopped at harming those who abandoned him#yet he continued to extremes and murdered entire clans seemingly for fun#i would argue even if he had a loving upbringing that innate cruelty would have still manifested itself somehow#HOWEVER#xue yang with a loving upbringing is still harmful but certainly not to the extent he is without it#i see that version of him as a more twisted wwx type who is into experimentation but ultimately is drawn back to society by his loved ones#they are so fundamentally opposed in their values#and yet on some level they are both that scared abandoned child#mdzs#the untamed#cql#wei wuxian#wei ying#wwx#xue yang#xy#cql meta#the untamed meta#i love 2 am philosophy
