I keep thinking about the guilt Spider would hold if he went back to Awa’atlu with the Sullys after seeing what the RDA did to the other Metkayina villages, and he overworks himself to collapse trying to atone for that like
He stays out on the water all day trying to bring in food, but the sun is so lethally hot without the shade he’s used to in the forest that he gets heat stroke. It burns his skin and he collapses on the beach when he finally comes back to land
He works so hard he forgets to eat and drink, and it’s inconvenient anyway without a room with his air, and he doesn’t really notice until his vision starts to swim and his stomach cramps so hard he falls to his knees
Others around him tell him to take it easy and he just laughs and agrees he probably should, but every night he lurches awake from nightmares of burning homes and blood in the water and he cant stop. He cant
He doesn’t mess around with the Sully kids anymore and they tell him they miss him, and he misses them too but every time he feels himself relaxing the guilt pulls him back under like a wave
Every time someone finds Spider collapsed unconscious somewhere, their collective worry grows. He feels it, the way everyone watches him closer, but assumes it’s just because they don’t trust him enough to let him out of sight and… well, thats fine. He gets it, it’s fine.

Tonowari: *extinguishes the fire cause he's preppy like that*

Baby Spider was absolutely littered in bruises and cuts from trying to keep up with his siblings but never complained. He’s always worn the injuries like a mark of pride, like somehow they’re the stripes he doesn’t have because they come from his siblings and they don’t see him like a human, they just see their brother

random avatar hc's cause I'm bored. (these fall closer to canon, and not for one of my au's, so like... vaguely 'normal' spider, not so nice neytiri, etc. unless specified otherwise)
spider and tuk are besties. the way she sorta hides behind spider when she blows a raspberry at lo'ak? she knows he'd take her side in a fight. spider will never tell her she's "too big" for anything, he literally works out partly because he wants to be able to carry her for as long as possible. he goes out of his way to play with her when her siblings ditch her. take whole days to just follow tuk around and do what she wants to do. she made him a songchord and goes to sit with eywa with him so he won't be alone. doesn't get why people don't like him, cause she thinks he's the best. so she tries to make him happy when they're together. pisses neytiri off, cause she always wants to spend time with spider, even when she tells tuk not to (it makes spider sweat bullets, cause tuk refuses to let go of his hand and neytiris just glaring at him, and he almost wants to beg her to let go)
ao'nung is also tuks best friend. they bully each other, but get offended if anyone insinuates they don't like each other. she's still mad at him for being mean when they first met, won't let him live it down, even years after the fact. braids his hair all. the. time, he can't get her to stop touching it.
even outside of my blessed spider au, spider has connected with eywa, cause she accepted him no matter what, he just doesn't tell anyone. she knows how to connect to humans now, via her roots, so she connects with the boy. he feels like if he points it out he'll get in trouble or he'll be 'using eywa' to get what he wants (which isn't true, but the boy has some irrational fears cause ✨trauma✨)
ao'nung and rotxo 'dated' as kids, like schoolyard crush type dating, cause they were really young. it lasted a few years (on and off) from like 6ish to 10/11, but to this day, they're still very close. like, its odd to find them not touching each other or cuddling or holding hands. they're inseparable and have no clue what personal space is, at all. they still say "I love you", kiss eachother's cheeks/foreheads, ao'nung is possessive, roxto is always talking about him. they're platonic they swear (not a soul believes them).
neteyam doesn't want to be chief, sometimes he hates being jakes son because of the weight on his shoulders, but he doesn't complain cause he doesn't want to be a disappointment, and he doesn't want to watch his siblings struggle to carry the weight themselves.
spider self soothes by brushing a thumb over his own cheek or running his fingers through his hair or holding his own hand. he's so insanely touch-starved its not even funny.
he's also a maladaptive daydreamer. I got no solid reason, it just feels right. gotta deal with his loneliness and metric ton of big feelings in one way or another.
he also feels the urge to talk to himself, a lot, especially when he's out alone in the woods. he just happens to think the ato'kirina are a coincidence (eywa listens to him attentively like a mother should).
spider tends to 'ignore' signs of eywa when it comes to himself, because he can't accept that eywa would ever wish to connect to or guide him. (its a running theme in my hc's)
after sorting out their drama, ao'nung is really close to lo'ak. after neteyam's death he sorta becomes his big brother. their dynamic is a mess, but they make it work. ao'nung is sorta like a punching bag for lo'ak a lot of the time (like hopper and mike in that one scene in season 2 of stranger things). ao'nung hates watching him mourn (he wishes he had died instead. for more then one reason, but that's a big one). other times they're super sweet on each other, play roughhousing, just hanging out, lightly teasing one another. they're my messy boys.
kiri refuses to pick between spider and rotxo. they don't mind. polycule for the win.
spider isn't immediately accepted by the metkayina, but he tries really really hard to prove himself, and does make some sort of name for himself. they may not all like him, but they respect him.
spider learned to treat bullet wounds after having to sit behind neteyam, staring at the bullet hole, and not knowing what to do. he blames himself for neteyams death, but he thinks that if he knew what to do, if hadn't frozen, if he'd known what to do, maybe he would have lived.
ao'nung has a disproportionate level of big brother instinct, relative to his general asshole personality. he's insanely protective of anything smaller them then him, even if he himself hates it. aka, even before he accepted spider into his friend group, or the village as a whole, he was instinctively protective, embarrassingly so. still kicks himself for getting lo'ak hurt (he meant to scare the piss out of him sure, but he never wanted him to get hurt) and he genuinely cringes, one of those full body shakes type cringes, when he thinks about it. he hates its.
spider doesn't know how to properly show affection after always being denied it, having to suppress it (not being able to affectionate with the other sully kids in front of the elders), etc. so now he sorta just struggles. the sully kids don't really notice how he hides his affections, how he's timid about it, what he considers to be affection. the metkayina kids are not used to it, they are genuinely concerned. spider is genuinely afraid to be nice to people when not in private. he's deathly afraid of receiving affection in front of others.
tsireya and ao'nung (sorta rotxo too, but he's dating him, so its kinda different) forcibly adopt him after a while, they can't help it. he's like a kicked puppy, its hard not to love him.
roxto's grandma (who raised him, canon, cause i said so) and all his brothers and sisters (he has a big family, mostly adopted siblings,) love spider, so he has a little makeshift family.
spider would, whether he was accepted as one or not, become a warrior after what happened that night in the forest (getting kidnapped) and what happened on the ship/to neteyam. he won't let himself be taken off guard again, he won't let the people he loves, even if they don't love him back, get hurt again. he vows his life to the na'vi, to pandora, to Eywa herself; he will die before he loses someone else.
spider and lo'ak orange cat energy, kiri and tuk have tortie energy (sassy queen), roxto is a tuxedo cat, ao'nung and neteyam are black cats, tsireya has tabby vibes (sweet but sassy). (fight with the wall)

A couple of things I noticed from my last rewatch:
- when Neytiri fires the first shot when the kids are captured by the recoms in the forest, QUARITCH GOES STRAIGHT FOR SPIDER and reaches his hand out to SHOVE SPIDER DOWN OUT OF TJE LINE OF FIRE plz god help me
- I’ve always noticed this but haven’t really seen anybody talking about it - Spider totally has an Australian accent when he runs out of the shack saying “I’m just going to the village!”
- When spider is captured he is covered in mud from the fall down the bank, like, he is so dirty. But in the next shot of him throwing the chair around he is… clean. I thought this was probably just a continuity error BUT: spider doesn’t have either of his two armbands on in the interrogation scenes, which adds credence to my new theory that that he likely had a SJOWER at the rda before Quaritch talked to him/he went in the mind machine
- Lo’ak calls Quaritch vonvä when he shows him his fingers which the subtitles translate as ‘buttholes’, but wiki says can also mean ‘dickheads’ (I find this satisfying)
- the exopacks that Sec-Ops use are sleeker than the ones the humans at the Omatikaya stronghold have , there is a smaller, less obvious canister (which I GIESS must be for oxygen although that is disputed). The Cet-Ops masks and exopacks have the rda branding under the chin and also no visible signs of a canister in the exopack (their exopacks are even sleeker and fit into the backs of the lifejackets)
- the RDA takes Spiders knife off him when he is captured and we never see it again, which fair. BUT, for some reason Spider has his bow with him when they climb the mountains to get the Ikran 🤔 as if they kept his pokey little bow safe for him 🤔
- Lyle WAINFLEET. he is a great man. Clever, witty, tactical minded and LOYAL TO A FAULT. it was HIM who noticed that Kiri had four fingers, and thus was an actual bargaining chip. It was HIM who managed to scoop kiri out of the water when the rest of the kids had escaped, again, leading to Quaritch actually get some leverage back over jake. It was HIM who stayed behind in the bridge to babysit spider when Quaritch went out on the tulkun hunt. It was HIM who sounded so defeated when they thought Quaritch had fallen to his death… It was HIM that took Quaritch's tags from around the dead human's skeleton and kept them safe while Quaritch was not in the right frame of mind... I could go on. Lyle wainfleet has a crush on Quaritch and Quaritch knows it but ofc they NEVER speak about it , just get on with their lives x

billions also comedy gold presenting winston as a scapegoat for abuse culture fans when it's like but hey it can't be actual scapegoating if you Enjoy It or consider it Justified or experience Reassurance from Its Opportunity For A Group Cohesion Substitute For A Cohesion Based On An Inherent Equal Degree Of Belonging, The Absence Of Which Allows For, Encourages, Reinforces, & Rewards Scapegoating
it can't be Bullying if someone's Weird or you Just Don't Personally Like Them or Nobody's Actually Stopping You, Maybe At Least If They Don't See Too Much Of It, Maybe Others Are Supporting It
it can't be Abuse if you're just doing things Normally or are Following Rules or Aren't Feeling Malicious And Aren't Getting Divine Revelations Otherwise and probably it's just that a lot of abnormal people are being whiny &/or unfair &/or the Real malicious ones. kinda just like how that scapegoat is the real person ruining everything and really just forcing you to treat them like this
#might note hardly limited to billions; the series doing bog standard suffocatingly common [Being Normal can't be abusive] replication#nor is their Unaware Replication Of [it can't be ableist if i'm not reacting to ppl who walked up & said Hi I'm Autistic]#well abuse & traumatic treatment can't be Everywhere. like how umm sexism can't be everywhere. neither can white supremacy. ableism. cmon.#oh please not everything can be political. Just Be Normal. which makes it ''apolitical.''#now we all agree abuse can't ever be made palatable; insulated; easy. now ppl doing it never said it wasn't That bad.#if they did they must have been maliciously lying. whereas when i say it can't have been That bad; i mean it :)#and if that person says it was; well they must be lying. or clueless. or a pussy. or scheming to destroy me. Must be. Gotta#& we wouldn't be able to look around & see contexts of imbalance. who's vulnerable. who's life gets smaller. who's supported automatically#who's supported if someone even posits they May have done anything like No; Impossible; now instantly definitely get their ass#you can just go on all day about the ''um i'm just the Realistic Normality vessel'' arguments made boundlessly in bad faith#being like ohh Everyday Interactions / ''Normal'' Semi/Public Situations Can't Be Uncomfortable Imbalanced Dangerous Abusive....#if they are that must be So Rare & created only by Rare Bad Actors with Malicious Mens Rea (itself a great concept to make any act Okay)#something framed as Extreme must be an outlier. could never be part of everyone's everyday life & some much more than others.#could never be what's defined as Normal (associated with Superiority) like how Abuse can't be shit i'd think of as Normal#like how damn if ya don't just wanna kill the autistic coworker and everyone agrees & would clap & cheer if you did And That's Great#you'd have to feel Weird / Abnormal about it! b/c Weirdness & Abnormality is what's bad!#like the autism or the cptsd (the Real abuse can only be: inflicting the existence of a victim's survival skills on Superior Normals)#or whatever else gets pathologized with Polite ABA arguments about how it's not ''social skills'' so hide it or suffer the consequences#winston billions#having that perspective too like oh [our blessed successful conformity] [their barbaric xyz Issues]#if the best you can argue for or against smthing is as Normal or Weird respectively like. no. what's behind that door#the authority figure/s who must be supported lest this all crumble. vs the ruinerrrrrr#billions recognizing winston & tuk the next most shitted on would probably get along & have a mutually supportive friendship#billions also recognizing that mutual support better not be Allowed to get that far. lest this all crumble#like look see we Knew it. we knew the bottom tier ppl who don't really belong in the group who we bully & scapegoat are Always Ruining It.

I feel like it’s kinda weird I’ve seen more Metkayina kids than Omatikaya. I would love to see more glimpses of village life and family dynamics in the forest. Although I guess you could count the sullies for that one tiny opening scene..but still. We always get robbed😭🫡

6 with Tuk & Lo’ak
Lo'ak & Tuk - a kiss while crying
Lo’ak is almost done fixing his visor when Tuk runs right past him and up to the waterfall’s edge, disturbing his peace, might he add, and begins sobbing as though she was the one who failed her ikinamaya in front of the entire clan no more than three hands-of-days ago.
He presses down with the shaping blade with too much force and accidentally shaves a line off-center. He sighs, resignedly, and then puts down the tools and quietly walks to the side of the cliff, dangling his legs off next to hers. His five-toed foot brushes against her four-toed one and she snatches her leg back angrily.
She does not, however, move away when he sets a palm against her back.
Lo’ak waits until the crying turns into sniffling, thank Eywa, and then looks at Tuk squarely.
“What happened?” Lo’ak rubs his hand across Tuk’s back.
Tuk sniffles despondently. He hates it when she cries, damnit.
“Popiti and I are fighting and she doesn’t want to play Toruk-Toruk with me anymore.”
“You fought with Popiti?” He asks incredulously. Lo’ak is pretty sure Tuk and Popiti have been surgically attached since birth.
Tuk nods – a habit she’s picked up from their father that he never sees the other Na’vi doing, but she’s too little to know any better – and then huffs.
“The problem is, Popiti got a baby sister!” Lo’ak already knows that. He's pretty sure the entire clan knows it, nosy as they are, given that the baby was the first one born since the move to High Camp. He blinks.
Tuk whines, “See, Popiti already had a sister! She wanted a brother.” Then, her eyes begin to water again and she sobs.
Wiya.
“Now she- she wants to tra-a-ade Raviti for you but I said no! So now, she’s mad at m-me and she took my Toruk toy!”
Huh?
Lo’ak is completely floored. Why would Popiti want to trade her older sister for him?
“You didn’t offer me up, huh?” He tries to joke, but it doesn’t come out as a joke.
“She didn’t ask for Neteyam?” He swallows the lump in his throat, but his voice cracks a bit anyway. Fuck puberty, man.
Tuk looks at him very seriously, then she leans forward and whispers, “He always makes me go to bed early.”
Lo'ak's heart swells ten times larger than he thought was possible, and his mouth has already curled up into a little smile before he shuts it down and clears his throat, but it’s enough to make Tuk giggle just a little before she remembers she’s upset.
Not more waterworks, please Eywa, Lo’ak begs, as he watches Tuk’s mouth form into another watery pout.
Lo’aks hand moves, unbidden, to the pouch by his hip, and without his consent, pulls out a piece of candied fruit from the last of his stash of sweets that Grandmother had made in the cooler months. Shit.
Tuk’s entire face lights up. Lo’ak can’t grumble too much, given that he’s got a six year head start on stuffing his face and Tuk’s always been too guileless to stash her own sweets anyway.
Lo’ak waits until she’s finished the whole thing, and then gets up, dusting off his hands.
“C’mon, let’s go. If you get on my back, we can play ikranay all the way back to the tent.” Oof, it doesn’t take her even a minute to jump onto his back and grab him by the throat. He refuses to admit it, but his body still aches a little from his big fall. That everyone saw. Ugh.
He adjusts his grip on her legs and she settles. “I’ll grab my old Toruk toy from the tent and lend it to you, but don’t break it, okay?”
Tuk presses an extremely wet, sticky kiss to Lo’ak’s cheek and love and disgust bloom inside him in equal measure. “Tuk!” he protests, but really, really it’s not so bad.

Do you think the kids would be protective after Spider after his transformation from Human to Na'vi. How would it change their viewpoint? In your Mama Neytriri au
oh its complicated.
they are terrified of losing him again, but he isn't little and fragile anymore, he is big and blue, just like them, and he may be their little brother but he's not little; he's the same age they were when they went to war for him. he's their equal physically, through eywa and his own efforts at healing, he's damn near close to it mentally, though that's not saying much (the emotional state of this family is a fucking nightmare). there is no longer a field he needs protecting on anymore, so they just have to be protective big siblings, acting as though a speck of dust or mumbled insult will kill him, even if he thinks they're crazy.
not only that, but he has been marked not only a warrior, but a war chief by eywa. he doesn't fight in battles, he leads the battles. so as much as it terrifies them to let him march into war, they have to. they become like a personal guard, fighting in front of him, making sure their little brother isn't taken from them again.
when the war is over, its back to bubble-wrapping the boy.
fluffier ways they protect him include
family huddles around the boy
family sleep piles, particularly after spider executes lyle and spares his dad cause the boy has ✨nightmares✨
neteyam will pick him up and move him away from any danger, despite spider being taller than him once he's fully grown (spider was taller than both jake and quaritch in his human form, so in avatar form he'd be fucking huge) which is really awkward and really funny to watch.
tuk, who is the most violent sibling (in the ✨cute✨ way) will bite, stab, and otherwise maim anyone who looks at her brother wrong.

"The average bug eats Taco Bell 350 times a year" actually just statistical error. Dung Defende, who Taco Bells on purpose, is an outlier and should not have been counted.
