I will say I think at least 75% of the time someone describes art as having 'a human soul' its shorthand for 'a positive quality of sincerity/passion/human imperfection etc that makes art engaging' (which is a sentiment you can by all means disagree with and is not a good argument for why a technology shouldn't be allowed to exist, but is generally not being used as a Spiritual argument), rather than 'I believe in an immortal soul which is metaphysically imparted into artwork created by human hands and imbibes it with Good qualities, and therefore art made otherwise is a Evil'.

Getting focused on that wording as the sole basis to make snide jabs about spirituality is only a little less silly than seeing someone go "god forbid xyz" and responding "Ummm actually god isn't real and thus can't forbid anything☝️🤓"

it does not beat out manuskript for wrangling scenes and chapters in the outline (cannot emphasize how useful the outline tree in manuskript is for my process) but the connected drafts work like a dream for most everything else

I thought about one of my fucked up and evil au ideas for five minutes again, so I decided to spend like fifty hours making a thing about it. Basically what if Muse went back into Snakemouth later to try to rescue Leif or at least bring back his body and got caught by the roaches.

How do Moe and Gil handle each others lower / harsher moods? Both of them are mentally ill as shit. (If this topic isn't something you'd like to touch on feel free to skip it but I think there's a LOT of gooood hurt/comfort opportunity in this ship)

Oh they absolutely are.

They both have poor self esteem and struggle with loneliness. Interestingly, while Moe tends to become very pessimistic, Gil actually tries to be optimistic. Even if Gil gets upset, 5 seconds later he’s often trying to plaster some kind of cheer on the situation.

Of course there’s a point where he’s literally just:

Meanwhile, Moe gets mean when he’s upset. He’s always got that little nasty voice in his head. It makes him feel bad about himself but also makes him want to make others feel just as bad as he does. A part of him is aware of it and tries to ignore it, but sometimes it’s hard to think rationally when you’re upset.

Early on, when Moe accidentally takes out his irritation on Gil, Gil attempts to accept it as his own fault. He’s used to having a partner that indicates they don’t like him because of his screwups. The behavior in itself reminds him of his failed marriage and that distresses him. Since Gil likes to pretend things are fine, it’s often hard for Moe to catch onto. He def feels bad when Gil is visibly upset tho and awkwardly (but genuinely!) apologizes.

Much later (probably with the confidence boost of the alt persona and not having to deal with Shirley by this point) Gil absolutely does not tolerate cruel words to be thrown at him. It becomes a unique dominance because Moe is almost never challenged when he gets angry. When he throws a fit in his bar and baseball bats booze bottles, his customers bolt out of the tavern. He points a shotgun at his friends, they just kinda drunkenly let the whole threat roll off of them like it’s not a big deal. No one really holds him accountable for his temper and its consequences, at best it’s him who occasionally considers dialing it back.

But Gil basically goes “excuse me?” and it reminds Moe to analyze the way he’s acting, realize he’s just being plain mean to someone he cares about. More often than not this actually startles Moe and makes him upset in the opposite direction (aka Niagara Falls). To which Gil becomes more agreeable to comforting him rather than confronting him. Particularly because the whole temper problem Moe struggles with stems from deeper issues.

Both men also have depression and suicidal tendencies. Gil mainly experiences the worst of it right after his divorce and it gets much better after he gets together with Moe. It’s more situational than anything. Moe’s own outrage on Gil’s behalf is a big help in rationalizing that not everything is always his fault.

However, Moe deals with very long term depression. It’s rooted in his upbringing and poor relationships. Gil learns how greatly this impacts Moe’s moods and as he gains his own confidence, he starts trying to unravel Moe. Moe does not like to think about his childhood because he knows it makes him upset.

Gil and Moe actually get in few arguments, they’re very similar so there’s lacking conflict, but this topic is an argument starter and it’s one Gil will push on even if he knows Moe will react badly. But inevitably it’s talked through and Moe ends up more interested in being hugged by Gil than being mad at him.

Both tend to revert to touch tactics when comforting; for Moe it’s because it’s natural response, for Gil it’s because he knows Moe is very receptive to it.

Sheri: A Powerpoint Intro

It is here! A tiny bit of background: Sheri is sort of a companion to Triad, in the sense that it shows some of what happened to the other ex-heir to the Navaren throne, but it takes place after it (by at least 3 months). Also maybe someday I'll come up with a better title for it.

It's so funny that a bunch of ppl started hating on Gale mansplaining the shadow curse claiming that this is some kind of sign that he's a mysoginist while a) he does that no matter your PC's gender and b) if you tell him you know Abt it he gets excited and you can just have a chat...

it's incredibly apt to me that the spiderverse team specifically drew upon brutalism as the primary style for the architecture of spider society because it's a style simultaneously linked to this notion of raw honesty (because you expose the material laying at the core of the structure) + social wellfare (as concrete was relatively cheaper to use and thus you got a lot of cheaper housing utilising this style), egalitarian by nature - it all looks the same, function over form etc.

but it ended up also getting associated with the structural flaws present in social wellfare systems by virtue of where it was applied as well as it being a style that's quite intense by nature (some would even argue ugly fjdfjk), and thus you get people implicitly associating it with those structural flaws and thinking of it as oppressive, even though the movement wasn't like. intentionally trying to cultivate that impression or be utilised in such a way.

which is interesting to me because that kind of duality works perfectly with the kind of tonal shift miles goes through when operating in that environment. spider society is at first wonderous and bright and brilliant, evocative of endless possibilties and stylistically almost like a large concrete web. but when miles is failed by that system, the large concrete web becomes constraining and suffocating.

hell, the idealogical roots of brutalism even work to an extent with the idealogical roots of spider society. neither was cultivated with the active intent to cause harm, and they're both associated with the desire to promote a future that is providing for the people utilsing it, but ultimately it's a tool. and any tool can be one that, inadvertently or otherwise, causes harm.
