What do you think of Harry getting Grimmauld Place? I seen quite a few who believe that it should be Draco’s since It’s Draco’s family’s history, Draco’s family tree and Kreacher spent Half Blood Prince going on about how he wanted Draco instead.
I guess my first question would be - how did Sirius get the house in the first place, even after being disowned? It's not a women-can't-inherit thing : Dumbledore says the Blacks traditionally have a male heir, but he's also expecting Bellatrix to just waltz in and claim ownership the second Sirius dies.
(if the House HAD to go to "the next male with the name of ‘Black" - which it doesn't because Harry Potter inherits - then all Draco has to do is start going by Draco Malfoy-Black, and boom it's his.)
Personally I think Sirius' disinheritance must have gotten reversed at some point. Regulus lived a little longer than his father, and by then he'd become disillusioned with Voldemort. He might have felt guilty about what happened to his brother and wanted to make amends, even if only symbolically. Or maybe Walburga heard that Sirius got arrested for being a secret Death Eater and killing muggles, and decided that he was all right after all, and wrote him back into the will.
Magical houses do apparently sometimes reject the people who (on paper) are their rightful owners, which throws an interesting wrench into things. Dumbledore thinks that even though Sirius willed Grimmauld Place to Harry, it's possible the Black properties might have some secret inheritance criteria like "pure blood" built into the protective enchantments. We also know that Umbridge can call herself Headmistresses of Hogwarts all she likes, but the *building* doesn't accept her, and bars her from the headmasters office.
Maybe the godparent/godchild relationship has some sort of intense magical and/or legal significance that means a lot to an old house like Grimmauld place. OR maybe Sirius found a way to hack the wards and convince the house that Harry was his illegitimate son or something. (I like this option because it's funny, and seems a very Sirius sort of solution. After all, he was extremely good at magic. He could have managed it.)
Actually that's not a bad premise for a fic. You could have it so Harry inherits the house in Book 6, and everyone is looking at him sideways because ... the process went so smoothly, the house and the house elf are so perfectly attuned to him, the only way that's magically possible is if he is blood-related to the house's last master. There's a whole genre of fics where it turns out Harry's real father is Snape. Why not Sirius?
But, it does make sense that *in universe* Harry's claim to the house might be considered a little shaky, because it's a Black property and he's not a Black. If Draco wanted make a stink about it... yeah he probably has a leg to stand on, legally. But, post-war Draco would need a really, really good reason to do that. He's not stupid enough to go directly head-to-head with Harry "Chosen One" Potter.

Gwyn's family tree members references and genetics (! updates occured since the first time posting)
(An ask reply to an anon)
Tumblr media
(A graph for convenience)
Tumblr media
Alright, I will go with what we can certainly make out of the family tree! ...almost. There are definitely some missing links! You don't have to accept all of my suggestions here and only focus on 100% confirmed ones, but I will explain why I added them! Let's start in order!
Gwyn, his mother, his uncle Lloyd and... sister? cousin? fifth known child?
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, yes, we can't be sure of Gwyn's eyes color since it appears to be just reflection of fire, nor of his hair color as he looks pretty aged!
UPDATE 01/12/2025: There is a datamined image of Gwyn without facial hair by kingborehaha on Bluesky ( x ). So, he had a really strong and square jaw XD Might or might not get inherited by Nameless King?
However, Lloyd is his uncle! It was never retconned in Dark Souls 3 despite what some people might believe, as he is called "collateral relative" ( 傍系 ) and not "derivative fraud" in Japanese script! This fits, so he was denounsed as an Allfather on the notion that direct descendant of Gwyn had more rights to it than just an uncle! His name also follows the pattern; Lloyd means 'grey', whereas Gwyn means 'white'!
At the same time, certain locations connected with the Way of White stuff (Sunlit Altar, altar in Undead Paris that Reah prays at, and altar in Catacombs where you find Darkmoon Seanse ring) all feature a statue of a woman in a crown, that is called a Goddess, that holds an infant with a sword:
Tumblr media
I do not believe it is mother of Nameless King at all, since 1) statues of his were destroyed, so why keep the infant one? 2) his trademark weapon is spear, not sword, but Gwyn's IS sword and 3) this statue appears to be some 'common' object connected with Way of White! It represents three children of Gwyn as Filianore was not yet planned in Dark Souls 1 times; Sunlit Altar for NK since this is where you do Warrior of Sunlight covenant, Church in Undead Parish for Gwynevere since Reah prays there and one of the Seath's Channelers (who are notorious for kidnapping Gwynevere's maidens) hunts there, and Catacombs one for Gwyndolin because you find the ring required to meet him and one of his miracles (Tranquil Walk of Peace) near it! Would not that make it fitting if it was the grandmother of the tree children of the Sun?
Now, I am going to do something I normally dread to do. I am going to..... *swallows nervously* quote the text of the items descriptions in this post, instead of posting screenshots. :s Okay this will be VERY trying, but I have to do it to fit within images limit per post!
WHITE SEANCE RING
A divine ring entrusted to the head bishop of the Way of White and apostle to Allfather Lloyd, uncle to Lord Gwyn. It grants additional attunement slots. The head bishop of the Way of White is the guardian of law and caste, and one of the great royals of Thorolund.
LLOYD'S SWORD RING
Ring given to knights of the Way of White. Depicts Allfather Lloyd's Sword of Law. Boosts attack power when HP is full. Much time has passed since the worship of Lloyd was common in the Way of White. The clerics of Carim had always strongly asserted that Lloyd was a derivative fraud, and that the Allfather title was self-proclaimed. (Japanese script has 'collateral relative' (傍系) rather than 'derivative fraud')
GOLD COIN
Coin made of gold, with Allfather Lloyd and his white halo shown on its face. (...)
Lloyd have been a very relevant figure amongst clerics, taking Gwyn's role after his death until Gwyndolin grew some backbone, and 'white halo' is basically a symbol of the Way of White! However, as an uncle, he'd have to be a brother of either Gwyn's mother or father (I choose mother), and Gwyn's parents are never mentioned... I assume they died earlier. Maybe, like the statue with Gwyn in infancy suggests, too early and Gwyn was basically raised by Lloyd!
UPDATE 03/08/2025: I want to further dig into the matter: Lloyd and mother of Gwyn are gods of... what? For Lloyd, it is clear: god of Law and Caste, but I mean to refer the element!
Tumblr media
'Aureole' is another word for a halo! The unusual, custom-made magic that Gwyndolin shared with Oolacile ( x ) uses the images of halos as well, though it seems to be connected with Oolacile requiring sort of "special attention" from Gods as Gwyndolin himself uses normal blue sorceries, and so does literally every human sorcerer in the setting who isn't connected to Oolacile! In this case, it must be connected with Manus and containing the darkness, not unlike what Filianore does with Ringed City.
But whereas magic and miracles of Gwyndolin were developed as separate tradition to the Way of White way back before he did claim title of Allfather himself multiple centuries later, Way of White Corona refers to initial Way of White! I think the halos in the sky might be Lloyd's element! They reflect the 'dimmed' sunlight, as they appear as refracted light resulted by ice crystals in the sky or a very particular clouding. You won't see halos in the clear sky, which thematically fits with how he is "grey" and not "white"! Meanwhile, the speculated mother of Gwyn is depicted with birds. I think mother of Gwyn was a Goddess of the Sky, and Lloyd is a God of clouding and light halos! The siblings are both connected with the sky, which IS where Sun and Moon shine!
We will get to Seath and Shira properly in due time, but in Japanese, Seath's description uses 外戚, which means in-law, related by marriage to a (female) relative of Gwyn! I don't think it is Gwynevere; she is only ever stated to marry Flann, besides, Yorshka calling Gwynevere a sister while also being child of Seath feels like a dealbreaker to me! I don't think it is Fillianore either, since she was given away to keep Pygmy away! But, Shira is a "daughter of the Duke and descendant of Gods" as she states, and also can use lightning that can be a gene if both Gwyn and NK owning it is of any indication! She is also of royal line!
The thing is... I am not sure who this mysterious relative of Gwyn is, specifically. Sister? Cousin? Unmentioned child? (if Gwyndolin and Filianore were never "showcased" unlike NK and Gwynevere, maybe someone else was dodging the spotlight? heh)
UPDATE 03/08/2025: My justification for this idea will be more apparent later, when we do get to Shira and Seath, but I've decided Caffrey fits in the place of a mysterious relative of Gwyn that Seath married:
Tumblr media
I go back and forth on making her either a sister of Gwyn or a cousin (so, daughter of his uncle Lloyd). But, as I already speculate Lloyd and Gwyn's mother being connected with the sky themes, it could give Caffrey a reason to have wings by internal lore logic, and not just because the irl mythology Goddess Fortuna is commonly depicted with the winsgs x). It would for sure give Shira's feathers decoration double meaning, but I don't think it is a problem!
Nameless King / Faraam and... Izalith?
Tumblr media
(This ( x ) video by Crest)
He is another character with whom I am not sure! It appears that he not always had his wonderful mane, but I am not certain whether his hair always was white or not! Unlike other known children of Gwyn, that appear to combine Gwyn's traits with second parent's, NK is also kind of just Gwyn but lesser, having nothing much to stand out by his own...? Gwyn's hair is most likely grey from aging, and this could apply to NK as well since he lived for a very long time. He also looks like a husk now, he is not exactly in his healthiest state when we meet him!
UPDATE 02/01/2025: I actually ended up loving the idea that Nameless King might be a child of affair between Gwyn and Izalith! Like I said, his siblings all have unique traits to stand out for (Gwynevere's healing and "bounty", Filianore's connection with Darkness and Gwyndolin's Moonlight), but he is simply like Gwyn and just has his lightning! So, perhaps his second parent did not have a unique affinity to stand out for, ie was not a God (or a dragon, for that matter)! I think Izalith might fit into this scheme as someone who would still be a figure important enough to be a mother of someone accepted as a legitimate heir of Gwyn, when Fire/Chaos was not always something she'd just pass onto her children:
IZALITH STAFF
Ancient catalyst of the Witch of Izalith and her daughters, used long before the dawn of chaos and of pyromancy.(...)
Him not having any flame or chaos corruption might be simply because he was born before flame became part of Izalith's body! At the same time, him being God of War is thematically appropriate for such parenting! Even putting aside the fact that Izalith and her daughters, indeed, waged war against Gods in the end, Fromsoft consistently has at least one region per game inspired by East Asian places on our planet be torn apart by war or idealising it or both! Izalith (the place) takes inspirations from both Japan and Cambogia, so with their track record it'd be entirely possible if culture of Izalith was pushing heavily on war, and Nameless King inherited the mindset for the lack of better term! After all, Gwyn's sunlight is not just a weapon, yet Nameless King had a focus on this specifically!
Additional point towards this idea is that Queen of Venn (Lost Sinner) and King of Alken (Old Iron King) both had an affair that went nowhere if ended in disaster and inherited souls of Izalith and Gwyn respectively! Souls of the Old Ones resonate with ones with most similar fates and essense, so would not it work even better had Izalith and Gwyn had an affair as well? + a sillier possible """evidence""": Lion people of Forossa are to Nameless King what crow mutants are to Velka, and they are all either brown or dark yellow! Whereas Quelaag and Quelana have brown hair, datamining (through loading NPC via debug menu mind you, simply removing helmet won't show this secret) revealed another daughter, Grana, has dark blond hair ( x )! Who knows, what if that's her genes x)
Tumblr media
We only see the appearances of four of Izalith's daughters, and whereas three have normal humans appearance (ignore the lower body mutations!!!), Fair Lady is a little off! Izalith, on the other hand, appears to have a grey skin and blue lips! And it isn't necessarily a result of Chaos corruption or illness or anything of the sort (like look at Queelag having regular human skin tone)! Whereas intended game's lighting makes Fair Lady look as though she has grey skin and pale yellow-ish hair, her textures reveal grey hair and also a normal human skin-tone albeit sickly pale, as well as her stated to be a "deformed" member of the family:
WHITE HAIR TAILSMAN:
...This lock of hair belonged to a deformed member of the chaos witches, mothers of the art of pyromancy. (...)
That clearly refers to how she was born rather than her current mutation, because by this logic Quelaag would be "deformed" too, and yet she isn't singled out like this! Yet some gene that effected Fair Lady independent of Chaos is within the family. What remaining three sisters are like is up to interpretation, but for all we know, the mysterious cold colored skin of Izalith could be inherited.. With the idea of her being the mother of Nameless king, there is a non-zero chance that he'd have grey skin even in his healthy state, independently of what he ended like! Or dark red eyes like Quelaag and Queelana. That'd make an interesting design I guess x)
UPDATE 03/04/2025: I've had a sudden breakthrough that might hint at how to design Nameless King! It will touch upon some of the characters that are discussed in more detail below but right now it IS important to bring them up!
Tumblr media
I've noticed that four children of Gwyn seem to have a 'descent' that applies to the stages of the day, minus the "morning" child that would logically follow after the lastborn Gwyndolin! I concluded Gwyn himself works as the morning person of this family, seeing how his sunlight is also distinctly orange, and orange sunlight applies to both rising sun and setting sun! Besides, a morning child appearing after Gwyndolin would mean the start of the new "day", and we all know Gwyn holds onto preserving the current era at all cost. Thematically, I think it would fit for him to never give up the position of "morning", though it is sadly funny how he can't escape the ride of time even within the comfort of having a family hahah
Gwynevere not only has very orange miracles, but also her illsion creates an unmistakable sunset look over Anor Londo! If slight grey in her color scheme indicates the night approaching, it makes it super likely that both 1) Gwyn might just have grey hair regardless of age since sun rises after the night just ended and 2) Nameless King doesn't have any grey in his color scheme and his current white hair is not his natural hair color!
The choices I am seeing for his hair, and possibly eyes, are either golden or red!
Tumblr media
Nameless King might have had red hair, like suggested by the way Solaire depicts the same sun as what is associated with his warriors and decorations Ornstein and Dragonslayer have!
On the other hand, strong argument in favor of golden hair is that literally nowhere in the family we ever have even a hunch of red-haired gene! It is always grey, black, brown or blond. His lion kin also only have either brown fur and manes or golden ones, when you'd think changing body upon worshipping an explicitly "red-maned lion" should've manifested somehow! The 'red mane' imagery might've been strictly symbolic, to reflect his authority rather than literal look!
I suppose I favor golden hair (and eyes?) version more, especially since he is more proto-Godwyn than proto-Radahn! He could also combine both here and there! For example, his eyes could be golden but turn redder closer to the edges. Or maybe he had red coloration initially, as Gwyn's firstborn, when he was still fighting with him against Dragons, and changing into sunny yellow/golden was the result of Gwyn starting new era? Elden Ring also has a lore point about things now yellow having before been red in their primal form. I guess I go back and forth with him, but at this rate I am certain about his warm coloration at least!
Gwynevere and her mother Fina / Nehma
Thankfully, Gwynevere HAS decent references, and could even shed a light (ba dum tss) on some more genetics!
Tumblr media
Her eyes look rather orange, just like the sunlight associated with her healing miracles (Bountiful Sunlight and Soothing Sunlight), yet there is a little grey circle at the pupil! x) Fun fact: she has distinct moles on her body ( x )! Though you can observe from her textures too:
Tumblr media
As for Fina, I really think she is a SUPER likely candidate for her mother!
Tumblr media
Notice how her symbol is Estus Flask, and Gwynevere is strongly associated with healing! As for why Nehma = Fina:
NAME-ENGRAVED RING
A special ring that can be engraved with the name of a god. Becomes easier to connect to worlds of players who chose the same god. There are countless vestiges of long-lost gods in the ruins of Drangleic. Or perhaps they are the very same gods as ours, only known by different names.
Another case right here is Pharis being named Evlana in Drangleic, as well as NK being known by the name Faraam! Similarly, Fina got another name, since she IS Goddess of Love!
EMBRACED ARMOR OF FAVOR
Armor of Lautrec the Embraced, representing the goddess Fina's love. The goddess's arms wrap around it, as if to embrace the wearer.
^ This line makes me wonder whether Fina was not a regular humanoid God, but had literally golden body! There is a nameless and faceless Blacksmith Deity in the setting whose death gave birth to Titanite Demons, so why not another atypical God like this? I can imagine her being mostly non-physical save for some... obvious places
ESTUS FLASK
The Undead treasure these dull green flasks. Fill with Estus at bonfire. Fills HP. The Estus Flasks are linked to the Fire Keepers. The Dark Tales also make reference: An emerald flask, from the Keeper's soul She lives to protect the flame, And dies to protect it further.
^ Lautrec kills Anastacia and takes her soul, and his next destination past that point is Anor Londo, but specifically the hall that leads to "Gwynevere's" chamber! He made Fina's love his whole guidance, Estus Flask is a symbol of Fina in Dark Souls 2 menu, Estus Flask is made of a Soul of a Fire Keeper, Gwynevere seems to be very much connected with love and healing too, and he goes to where "she" is! I would not put it past him that "Gwynevere" messed up his radar, he seems to act irrational in his delusion about being "loved by Fina", but you can see everything about this questline is thematically connected! ...there is also the fact that if Lautrec's armor is of any indication, Fina was wearing a crown! Gwyn was the king, so another one crowned would be his wife, right?
I think whereas Gwynevere didn't inherit Fina's (presumed) golden body and turned out a regular humanoid deity, the orange glint of her eyes might also be Fina's gene, a color of healing (the liquid in Estus Flask)! Gwyn's eye color might actually be grey and only show in her eyes vaguely! (This is a surprise tool that will help us later). Brown hair might belong to either Fina, or to Gwyn when he was way younger! Or.. to Gwyn's parent? Put a pin on this! All in all it is hard to say whether orange in Gwynevere refers to Fina/Nehma and her healing, or the setting sun place in the family. Though.. to think of it, Fromsoft often has melting pot of different references and hints! It can always be several things at once!
Rosaria, Anri and Horace
I think Rosaria's line is the furthest diluted from the divine ancestry, since having children with a human resulted in JUST humans, not sort of Demigods! Also, Irithyllian preset does say these humans have "features of old gods"!
Tumblr media
(Video by Bonfire VN ( x ))
Unfortunately, Rosaria doesn't have eye texture! Grey skin looks cool, but oh well. I suppose it is more fair to take the look from the final version, which is just normal, if only slightly less saturated!
Her hair appears to be not black but actually just dark grey, like Filianore's, however, Anri, Horace and average Irithyllian appear to have black hair!
Tumblr media
(From this ( x ) page, without Hollowing filter)
dggsdfsfd Yeah I know, most of Dark Souls 3 face data is just bald, and their hair color data is just black, but! I think it is kind of "legit" since you can see their eyebrows, that are black too! Sorry for a cursed joke about Artorias though, he does have black hair and I just thought it was a funny idea that he did sleep with Gwynevere at some point- look, Gods were wery proud of his accomplishments against the Abyss and even gave him that medal ok? fsjjfd xD
Why Anri's Hollowing is "regular" and Horace's is green-ish that was introduced in Drangleic is another topic tbh. But, I think that Anri takes more after Rosaria, whereas Horace takes more after Aldrich! Anri's grey eyes are from Rosaria, and I think Aldrich would have blue eyes like Horace's! look it is thematically appropriate right?
I am sure that they ARE the two children that managed to escape Aldrich, of course:
EXECUTIONER HELM (DS3)
(...) Horace is one of only two children to escape Aldrich's clutches.
Japanese specifies he is one of children of Aldrich specifically:
ホレイスはエルドリッチの子供たちの一人であり 唯二人の生き残りでもあった
ANRI'S DIALOGUE
(...) "Help me vanquish Aldrich, the man-eating fiend."
(...) "But my duty must be done, even alone. As an unkindled Lordseeker. For the children I knew, bless their souls."
(...) "Horace, we've done it, we really have..."
(...) "Oh, Horace, everyone, forgive me..."
(...) "Oh, Horace, why... Don't leave me, not you... Not like the others..."
Notice how Anri is close with Horace, they're taking revenge upon Aldrich together (and we know why Horace does it), and the way they talk about their past like they've lost many people (children?) but only Horace stayed. Anri also goes back to the Church of the Deep after their quest is over, and goes Hollow there. It makes much more sense if Anri is also personally involved into this quest! They are easily the mysterious second child who survived, under Occam's Razor it goes!
+Just in case, don't let "of Astora" fool you; Anri is LARPING as a knight of Astora because their legends gave them sense of nostalgia! You know that feeling when you are way too late for something and long for having been a part of it while it was still relevant? Or wanting to meet a person you've learned all about only long after they died?
ELITE KNIGHT SET (DS3)
[item] said to have been given to elite knights of fallen Astora. The mere mention of Astora invokes wistful pangs, and perhaps it was such a dream that drew Anri to this faraway home known only by name.
Also an idea: maybe Anri's gender thing should be taken at a face value? Although basically just a human at this rate, they are still a kid of a mother of rebirth, so maybe they legitimately can have either biological gender for the purpose of being able to have children with any person? Just an ability inherited from Rosaria, because this is what Rosaria's power is about! What do you think?
Flann and Dancer of the Boreal Valley
Flann was a God of Fire, and Dancer is stated to be a direct descendant in the royal line!
RING OF THE SUN PRINCESS (DS1)
This ring is granted to those who enter a Covenant with Gwynevere, daughter of Lord Gwyn and the Princess of Sunlight. This slightly warm ring boosts the synergy of miracles. The Princess of Sunlight Gwynevere left Anor Londo along many other deities, and later became wife to Flame God Flann.
SUN PRINCESS RING (DS3)
(...) Gwynevere left her home with a great many other deities, and became a wife and a mother, raising several heavenly children.
I think that the place the Gods of Anor Londo left to was Heide in Drangleic, and even there we arrive long past its ruin! Not certain where they are now and how many generations of these children appeared, but at least some direct children or even descendants returned into Lordran continent! Aldia, Creighton and Gilligan travelled from Drangleic to Lordran continent, so why not some of these relatives too? (Considering how oddly nobody in Drangleic knows shit about Lordran continent despite it being literally there oversees, I take it as it got concealed for undefined time, and maybe these descendants of Gwynevere, along with some other Gods, opened the path back to it?)
SOUL OF THE DANCER
Soul of the dancer. One of the twisted souls, steeped in strength. Use to acquire many souls, or transpose to extract its true strength. The Pontiff Sulyvahn bestowed a double-slashing sword upon a distant daughter of the formal royal family, ordering her to serve first as a dancer, and then as an outrider knight, the equivalent to exile.
(In Japanese, 旧王家の末裔 - 'descendant of the Old Royal Family')
DANCER'S CROWN
Crown worn by the Dancer of the Boreal Valley. The mirage-like aurora veil is said to be an article of the old gods, permitted only for direct descendants of the old royal family.
Tumblr media
Dancer can conjure fire in her hands, which the Pontiff and Fire Witches who use the Profaned Flame can't do, which might imply hers is all natural, and does this smoke-like thing when using her dark magic sword (which is, again, unlike the Pontiff's actual arsenal with HIS dark magic sword). Considering Flann is God of Flame, her capacity for using fire and ash "naturally" convinced me that she descends from Gwynevere and him!
Unfortunately, nothing to latch onto considering her or Flann's appearance, really.. But I'd suggest that if she takes his abilities more than Gwynevere's, whatever you imagine Flann looking like, she'd look more like him as well!
Queen of Lothric, Lothric, Lorian, Oceiros and Ocelotte
Well, first things first: I do not think Queen of Lothric IS Gwynevere! There are no damning evidences for this!
For one, Gwynevere's name is not forgotten or obscured by the events of Dark Souls 3, it is mentioned in descriptions and by Yorshka, so why would it be omitted under just 'Queen of Lothric'! Second, Gwynevere is still referred to as a princess consistently, she never queened-up! The only exception from this is illusion of Gwynevere calling herself a queen, and... well, it was needed, to support the legend. :p Third, Rosaria is also linked to items associated with Gwynevere, same as Queen of Lothric, so this is just descent, really!
But what truly cemented my opinion is that in Japanese script, Queen of Lothric is said to be compared with 'the' Goddess of Bounty and Grace! (Taken from this ( x ) document by Last Protagonist, it is for Bloodborne but it has a Dark Souls WIP folder). Why would Gwynevere be compared with herself? :p
Tumblr media
(Upper image of the ribbon in statue by Lokey's Lore ( x )) The ribbons seem to miss in the concept art, but I feel like they got added to further hint at descent rather than to... well, add a plot hole...? x) Miyazaki initially wanted Gwynevere to have motherly vibe and the design we have now only exists because the guy who drew that concept liked it too much, so maybe his initial idea for her got a second chance in another character?
Tumblr media
Like I said, the grey in the eyes WAS important, because, look! The brothers' eyes ARE grey! :p Their hair is actually very grey as well; with a very slight hint of blond for Lothric and slight hint of brown for Lorian, but you can tell game's lighting makes their hair look way more saturated than they actually are! Lothric's eyes are also blind of course, you can more clearly see from the texture that the pupil is ruined..
Tumblr media
Notice that Oceiros is also lacking scales, but is growing fungi-like things that are otherwise found in Vagrants!
UPDATE 02/01/2025: Ocelotte's model is a cut content, but apparently the model does persist in finished game still, even if we cannot see it!
Tumblr media
(From this ( x ) video)
In Dark Souls 2, essence of Seath lives on same as Gwyn's, Izalith's and Nito's but in a form of nearly an "element", and corrupts the Duke of Tseldora into madness, driving him to indulge in mad experiments and create weird beings! It is possible that this happens again in Dark Souls 3 when now the vessel of "Seath" becomes Oceiros instead and similar descent into madness repeats! Very ironically, Seath DID reach immortality if you think of it, but he no longer realises that he did fhdfhds As for Vagrants, I wonder whether it was intentional too, since Seath did experiment with marine life forms quite a lot (Pisacas, Giant Clams)...?
I think the grey eyes and hair is linked to Queen of Lothric; the orange hues must have weakened over generations, and it is not the last of grey hair you'll see x) Really have no idea what Oceiros would've passed onto them, though...? I imagine brown-ish hair from the side of Queen of Lothric reflecting Gwynevere's brown hair (passed in an even greyer form to Lorian), and blond hair from the side of Oceiros (passed in an even greyer form to Lothric)!
Gundyr, Gertrude and their parents
GUNDYR'S HELM
Ancient helm of a set of cast iron armor, belonging to Champion Gundyr. Modeled after a former king. Gundyr, or the Belated Champion, was bested by an unknown warrior. He then became sheath to a coiled sword in the hopes that someday, the first flame would be linked once more.
古い王 - king from long ago, king from the past, etc
Gundyr doesn't appear to be one of Oceiros' children, but I've been thinking about it for a while.. I figured out what made the most sense for his story is being a collateral relative to the twin princes, considering he was sent out to replace Lothric (well, this is what he was told..) It will be a tangent to explain, so here ( x ) are my conclusions on what exactly happened with Gundyr!
Granted, I might end up making him more of a distant relation than her direct son from previous marriage- it'd be even better, to be honest! But, this is a base draft of the family tree. His helmet resembles his ancestor, that, again, would work better as someone several generations apart from him!
UPD 12/30/2024: I did decide it made more sence if "ancient king" was... well, ancient fdgfdsd And appeared to be ancestry of Oceiros instead, with Gundyr being collaterally related to Oceiros! I am not strong with familial terms so I am not sure what this relation is called now if I move him further than being half-brothers with the twins and Ocelotte :o Just thought it worked better!
BOUNTIFUL LIGHT
Miracle taught to knights of Gertrude, holy maiden to the Queen. Gradually restores a large amount of HP. The Heavenly Daughter is said to be the Queen's child.
DIVINE PILLARS OF LIGHT
Miracle of Gertrude, the Heavenly Daughter. Brings down multiple pillars of light in the vicinity. The Queen's holy maiden Gertrude was visited by an angel, who revealed this tale to her.(...)
The fact that her own daughter is simultaneously described as her servant of sorts gave me an impression of being the bastard child! I guess one thing Gwynevere certainly passes down to her descendants is sleeping around, except this is ACTUALLY Fina's fault hdhfshfgsdh
Seath, Gwyndolin, Filianore and Priscilla. How Caitha could fit into a family?
I think this is apparent that Gwyndolin is a child between Gwyn and Seath, as serpents in this lore are "imperfect dragons", and Seath himself is inherently connected to Moonlight element (Moonlight Butterflies he created, Moonlight Greatword being literally made from a part of his body)!
COVETOUS GOLD SERPENT RING
The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony. This gold ring, engraved with the serpent, boosts its wearer's item discovery, so that more items can be amassed.
MOONLIGHT GREATSWORD
This sword, one of the rare dragon weapons, came from the tail of Seath the Scaleless, the pale white dragon who betrayed his own. Seath is the grandfather of sorcery, and this sword is imbued with his magic, which shall be unleashed as a wave of moonlight.
And, yes, needless to mention that Gwyndolin is a sorcerer. Sorcery is THE Seath's thing!
Tumblr media
I would actually take Aldrich's render with a grain of salt; right, we don't know what Gwyndolin's eyes were like in Dark Souls 1, but also Gwyndolin has white/greyish skin, when Aldrich using this body has a pretty much human skin tone! The hair on Aldrich also appears to be way more white (a trait of being corrupted by Dark, check Four Kings or Abyss Watchers), not grey like Gwyndolin's 🤔 I guess his look is more of an approximation than literally just using Gwyndolin's body! Though, pale eye color can still be used as a headcanon! Just maybe less dead looking..?
UPDATE 02/01/2025: I've been thinking about inconsistency of Gwyndolin's design a bit more, and here ( x ) is a separate post compiling those! (don't worry it IS actually short!) The gist of it is that white skin and even the snakes might even be a result of prolonged exposure to estrogen Moonlight Aura, so his parenting is up to more intepretation than I initially assumed! My interpretation lingers on the idea that relation between Gwyndolin, Priscilla and Yorshka is a biological one, not spiritual or adopted! Yet even then, who can tell if white skin (and snakes, and boobies) is NOT a trait that will just "wear out" without contstant nourishment by Moonlight aura? Aldrich's version of Gwyndolin's body honestly opens more questions than it answers, but I say remarkably grey hair of Gwyndolin IS his natural hair color and Aldrich's body's white hair is an alteration! I am bouncing off of these pointers.
Tumblr media
Filianore also has this grey hair with a very slight hint of brown! Her eyes also appear to be corrupted by sort of wooden texture, and after time runs wild, she honestly reminds me of what Elana looks like...? Turning into wood is a common sign of devolution in this setting as everything that isn't a Dragon evolved from the trees! But... furthermore, devolution into wood is connected with darkness.
It is Humanity when it is not running wild! Four Kings becoming very tree-like is the quickest example! The void-face type of Giants also turn into trees upon devolving and, interestingly enough, their particular souls have a spot of darkness within! Further clue towards Filianore having some Dark in her by nature is the very fact that she was sent away with Pygmy lords! Would not a God that actually has some Dark/Humanity in them be THE best candidate to keep them in check.... and the one most likely to remain safe there in Gwyn's eyes, you know?
Tumblr media
Priscilla has a little scales and eyes, unlike Seath, despite being most likely his child! Seath being white-colored is accentuated, and so is her being "stark-white" crossbreed!
SOUL OF PRISCILLA
(...) Use the soul of this crossbreed bastard child and antithesis to all life to acquire a huge amount of souls, or to create a unique weapon.
LIFEHUNT SCYTHE
Scythe born from the soul of Priscilla, the stark white crossbreed trapped inside the Painted World of Ariamis. Even the Gods feared Priscilla's lifehunt ability, and in the hands of a mortal, its power will turn upon its wielder.
I think Priscilla and Yorshka have to have a shared second parent, since you can get a miracle version of Priscilla's Lifehunt Scythe when Aldrich dreams of Yorshka! At the same time, Gwyndolin is the lastborn of Gwyn yet Yorshka is their younger sister, nor Priscilla or Yorshka are recognised as Gods by the narrative! Basically.. Gwyn got cucked dfggffd I keep telling you all and you don't believe me!!
Okay, but what connects Priscilla to Darkness is definitely not from Seath's ancestry, as Dragons are beyond Light or Dark! I absolutely agree with the idea that Priscilla and Velka were connected; Velka's crow people and some clerics are in the Painted World of Ariamis, Occult Ember is here, Priscilla's Dagger has Occult affinity, in Dark Souls 3 the Crows worship Priscilla, there is a statue of mother holding a child... But, I think Velka rather adopted her than was her biological mother! Another thing is that Velka is a "heretical" deity, implying she made Darkness her own weapon rather than was naturally aligned with it or corrupted by it to the core! What Priscilla inherited though, had to be inherited directly, biologically, naturally and not learned, since her "ability" manifested since infancy:
PECULIAR DOLL
A strange doll in strange dress. There once was an abomination who had no place in this world. She clutched this doll tightly, and eventually was drawn into a cold and lonely painted world.
The Daughters of the Dark in Dark Souls 2 are fragments of Manus' own darkness, and their elements naturally oppose everything about Gods and their world! Nashandra's element is Death and Alsanna's element is Ice/Cold, both opposing Life and Fire respectively! Elana is the devolution into a tree life form, whereas Nadalia is ash - both oppose the concept of time as Age of Fire created it! Elana by devolution, Nadalia by exhaustion as ash is final result of burning, when nothing IS left to burn! And in every game, death more blatantly goes hand in hand with the darkness, too.
Priscilla embodies two of these: Ice and Death! She is even connected with invisibility, too! At the same time, since Gwyndolin's hair is AKTYALY grey, Yorshka's hair is brown and Shira's hair is brown also and was white only in the concept, her white hair might also be result of the Dark settling within, not same as her white fur!
As for who IS that mysterious parent that passed the 'Darkness gene' to Filianore, Priscilla and Yorshka...? Okay, here I will slide a theory about how Caitha of all people fits the role well ( x ) compiled very well by @val-of-the-north, if you want to read! It is too hard to just put all that here and deserves a separate post, as there are many clues towards this theory but.. let's say this takes more than five minutes to explain. It is her connection with Death that is here for Priscilla and Yorshka (since in DS3, Priscilla is not really "young" nor "in hiding"), Aldrich literally using exact copy of Nito's Blade, Church of the Deep formerly being Caitha's chapel and taken from her, Caitha being connected with the Dark without a doubt, Filianore's egg being too much like Vagrant's shell to be ignored, Nito's wife being hinted as water goddess, Vagrants being marine creatures, Seath himself being interested in researching weird marine creatures (that might even work as reason to work with Caitha a lot even before his insanity arc), Caitha's tears crystallizing when it is otherwise an effect of draconic curses (wear protection when you fuck a dragon, kids fsfds)....
Look it's a lot and. It fits into a separate post better. I really liked it and honestly think it fits within lore! Besides, Gwyn sure likes to flirt with the danger, as scared as he is. 🙄 He was enemy of the dragons but let Seath close and kept Midir alive, he feared humans but still trusted Four Kings... would not put it past him to look at someone aligned with the Darkness and go "I should not put my dick in it, however," fhsdhff
Shira and Yorshka and... Zandroe?
Tumblr media
(Shira's face data from this ( x ) page)
(Shira's set render from this ( x ) page by Tokami Fuko)
Her hair is dark blond, in the final version? Her eyes are also green though, even if not as radiant in color as Priscilla's! Her name literally means 'white', and she is, like I said earlier, is "'daughter of the Duke and descendant of the Gods"! You can also see the original intention for her was white hair! or..... is it grey hair? AGAIN? x)
SHIRA'S CROWN
Crown of Shira, knight in service to Filianore. Finely crafted with silver and fashioned with a pearl from a Man Eater Shell. (...)
SHIRA'S ARMOR
(...) With a spun gold shawl draped over the silver breastplate and a green woven skirt, this armor offers a subdued yet refined elegance, apropos to both a handmaiden of the Princess and one whose veins coarse with royal blood.
I am not sure why she turned out to be so humanoid, not showing draconian features whatsoever! Perhaps how many features manifest is a random chance, and her mom's genes just turned out to be much stronger than Seath's, especially if she was one of the Gods on Gwyn's family! Or maybe whereas Gwyndolin was raised through Moon aura, Shira, on the other hand, had exposure to Sunlight aura? Whereas former possibly enhanches dragonic features, latter would suppress them by an effect? Alternatively, Seath's genes just fade away without constant nourishment, like I said it is possible with Gwyndolin!
This all also makes me wonder if Seath's "intended" eye color is green, and that would be the color if he had eyes?
Now, Zandroe is a very interesting case, and there are quite a few coincidences that make him fit the same check-marks as Shira herself! But first things first; I must clarify that 'Zinder and Zandroe' is a localisation blunder, and a pretty severe one! They straight up invented a whole new guy, when in Japanese original it is ONLY Zandroe (欲の神ザンドロ) (or ONLY Zinder, whatever name you like more)
Tumblr media
I explained a bit more about Gods mentioned in Dark Souls 2 and their Japanese names in this ( x ) post! And in the same post, I've clarified that Caffrey is in particular Goddess of Wealth (財産 の 神 ネフ ェ エ), not really so much of a good luck!
In Dark Souls 1, the Covetous Gold Serpent Ring is found is Sen's Fortress, and Covetous Silver Serpent Ring is found in Tomb of the Giants! You can already see the parallels with how we discover items and 'Statue of Goddess' associated with NK/Gwynevere vs Gwyndolin. But there is something else:
COVETOUS GOLD/SILVER SERPENT RING:
The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony.(...)
Notice how just like Shira, Zandroe also is associated with union of gold and silver, whereas also being connected with the dragons! Not to say that he was necesarily serpentine rather than dragonic; the rings that refer to him might be symbolic! Though he as well might have snakes as a part of his body like it happened with Gwyndolin - a "gene" that manifests only if nourished with enough of Seath's aura! I do imagine he looks a bit more monstrous than his sister Shira, at least.
At the same time, he is associated with greed, when Caffrey is associated with wealth! It all could explain how her, Zandroe, Caffrey and Seath can be connected! Seath is the 'silver' side, and Caffrey is the 'golden' side!
Tumblr media
(Images by Moonlight Ruin on Twitter ( x ))
I think Yorshka has her mother's eyes, as they do not have draconian narrow pupil! (Well, if it was Caitha, she very likely has blue eye and red eye, and this is just the blue!)
Tumblr media
Seath is not only white, but also cyan/blue/purple/pink, and Yorshka displays these features! As well as taking after the mysterious parent with the 'Dark genetics', specifically with the ability manifesting as Death / Lifehunt shared with Priscilla:
LIFEHUNT SCYTHE (DS3)
Miracle of Aldrich, Devourer of Gods. Steals HP of foes using an illusory scythe. Aldrich dreamt as he slowly devoured the God of the Darkmoon. In this dream, he perceived the form of a young, pale girl in hiding.
All things considered, I feel like brown and dark blond hair gene comes from somewhere in Gwyn's family! However, the grey hair gene apparently suppresses it on every occasion! There is also a possibility that both Yorshka and Shira were born with white hair and either 1) this gene is weak and wears out on itself over time 2) this gene is connected with Seath's moonlight energy and wears out without nourishment or 3) white hair reacts on moonlight in general and is now darker color because moon is darker!
Dunnel and Painter
I just think Dunnel is a likely candidate for whoever was father of the Painter:
PYROMANCER'S PARTING FLAME
The pyromancy flame of Livid Pyromancer Dunnel that attracts the echoes of the death. When Dunnel lost his hideous spouse, he gave his own pyromancy flame as an offering, which transformed into a parting flame. Not long after, Dunnel became a mad spirit, cursed to wander the lands.
Priscilla is referred to as an abomination within the lore, and hideous spouse is not quite far off! It clearly refers to the context of what life itself fears rather than... well, like, her actual appearance. And Priscilla is connected with Death, whereas combining his flame with her changed it into something connected with Death as well! He also invades in a place that looks a lot like her arena in Dark Souls 1!
Tumblr media
Bro just looks like old Patches -_-
Tumblr media
(Video by BonfireVN ( x ))
Her skin is definitely more grey and dragon-ish, but I am not sure to which family member I could link orange eye color to :') Just the fact that she is meant to envision the Flame, I guess?
Tumblr media
_________________________
Okay, thank you for giving me a reason to organise all this! I thought I'd just dump some references together, but it turned out to be sort of an analysis, and I figured some useful things for myself too! So, my conclusions are:
Grey hair gene is very real in the family but will depend on how far they stray from "daylight"! Gwyndolin's hair is also grey, and Aldrich's version having white hair is reasonable since Darkness corruption seems to cause white hair!
Brown hair gene most likely appears from Gwyn's mother, or other relative of his
Descendants of Gwynevere tend to have grey hair and grey eyes, seems like the brightness of sunlight have worn out over time genetically in this family. Since Gwynevere is the setting sun and thus already shown hints of grey herself, her children were destined to lean even further into the 'night' because of how daytimes work! Unless, of course, Flann's heritage gets more dominant x)
Dancer is the only known 'apparent' descendant of Gwynevere and Flann, others appear to be either much more diluted or not having ties to Flann at all
There is a 'Darkness gene' running in the family in Filianore, Priscilla and Yorshka that manifests in different forms like it was with Daughters of Dark (ice and death with Priscilla, death with Yorshka, defiance of time with trees/ash with Filianore). At the same time, with Caitha, a gene connected with the waters manifests from time to time when Filianore's Egg resembles the shell of Vagrants and Yorshka has "tentacles" similar to a marine creature on her long neck! also her tears crystallise because Seath gave her weird dragonic STD lmao
Mixing with a dragon genetically has very random results, from apparent to absolutely indiscernable
Someone GOT to inherit Gwyn's super square jaw shape at some point XD
Seath's "intended" eye color is most likely green, so it is one of the variants for what Gwyndolin's eye color might be!
Oceiros probably was blond
While Gwyndolin was hard-pressed on the 'moon' side of his genetics despite also being a child of Moon and Sun, with Shira the sun part is almost all there is, and with Zandroe it seems to be evenly presented
Pattern with which hair colors of Gwyn's children change suggest that Nameless King's real hair color was not white, he's just been through some shit!

If there is to be re-instating going on (which there kinda has to be at this point) if I were to write something with this, I'd like to give that beat to Regulus. It's a nice character beat: we know he regretted everything at the end, and I bet includes what happened with Sirius. Sirius, in the end, was right. That'd be a fun scene to write, Sirius learning Regulus brought him back into the family right before he died. Obviously we don't know anything about Cygnus, maybe he was a cool guy, but we do know he didn't have any problems with Sirius being kicked out the first time (and didn't give him money to live on like Alphard.) Considering Sirius is still a killer in Azkaban at the time of Cygnus' death, and at best would have a very complicated and fraught reputation within the Black family, I don't know why Cygnus would go out of his way to reinstate him, when he could just do nothing and let the property pass to his daughter.
The game for me is to try to find rules that make the (clearly slightly sloppy) worldbuilding fit, which is why I'm saying that it seems cool that the ladies can get the inheritance, Queen Elizabeth style. Bellatrix certainly thinks she's about to inherit even though she's a Lestrange and not a Black, and I'll bet she even tried to access the house ("show up on the doorstep" like Dumbledore says.)
Because at that point, if it was THAT important to have a guy with the surname Black inherit, and Sirius was TRULY disinherited and off the table...
.... then obviously what you do is change all the paperwork so it says "Draco Malfoy-Black"
.... so HE inherits (and consolidates!) everything.
I find the family dynamics interesting Bella seems to still care for Cissy and Andromeda too despite Andromeda becoming a traitor
Sirius on the other hand only care for the Potters as I think he really didn't care much for Regulus (I could be wrong though)
But honestly this has been bugging me but why was Sirius still able to inherit Grimmauld when he was disowned/removed from the tapestry?
How can the Will be written? It wasn't sure he is still part of the family, and he prefers to spend time with the Potters and after their death, wasn't he busy chasing after Peter before being thrown to Azkaban?
Friend, you have set a terrible curse upon me. I went combing through the books to look for any mention of wizarding laws, since we know so terribly little about them, and now I'm sitting on an essay on law in the magical world :(((
As for the rest:
Your guess is as good as mine vis à vis the inheritance of Grimmauld. I went through the conversation that Dumbledore and Harry have in book 6 about it and we learn very little:
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
We basically learn that Sirius's will is legally binding because Harry becomes Kreacher's owner, which means that somehow wills in the magical world (or at the very least some wills) are also magically binding.
I also find it interesting that Dumbledore seems very sure that:
There's a separate enchantment on Grimmauld to prevent it from being owned by non-purebloods
The ownership of Grimmauld has passed onto Bellatrix.
We are generally supposed to take Dumbledore's word as law so it's interesting that he's proven wrong and Bellatrix isn't the rightful owner. I get the vague sense that Dumbledore didn't put much faith in Sirius's abilities and partly added enchantments to Grimmauld because of that.
Also, it's never proven conclusively wether said anti non-pureblood enchantments even exist.
As to the matter of Sirius's will, I find this passage from book 3 to be interesting:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To me, this reads like Harry's parents appointed Sirius as Harry's guardian on top of him being made godfather, not as part of it; mayhaps as part of a will?
It's not unreasonable, they did know they were being haunted, and perhaps this also helps us establish when Sirius's will was also made. I can imagine Sirius making (or amending) his will as a consequence of the Potters' will, especially since this likely happens after Regulus died and he also knows Grimmauld is likely to pass onto him.
Just throwing this out there, idk.
Changing subjects completely, these are the only times Sirius talks about his brother:
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
and
Tumblr media
I think Sirius's words are vague enough that you can read them pretty much however you please. I get the vague impression that Sirius himself is not sure how he feels about his brother but he recognizes that Regulus behaved they way he did in order to please their parents (and perhaps to compensate for Sirius's own unwillingness to uphold the family ideals).
I also went looking for proof that it was Sirius who kept Regulus's room unchanged once the order moved into Grimmauld, since it's a popular fandom assumption, and the books say nothing on the subject. I honestly think it's more likely that Kreacher is the reason why the room was kept as is but that is just pure conjecture.

L&L Scamander Headcanons:
Leander and Lycidas are the firstborn twin sons of Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein.
They were born around 1946, a year after the marriage of their parents and the imprisonment of Gellert Grindelwald.
The boys enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the year of 1957.
Leander was sorted into Hufflepuff house like his father and uncle before him, while Lycidas was sorted into Ravenclaw.
I’ve decided that Lycidas should be in Ravenclaw due to the Goldstein family having ties to the house through an English relative, Anthony Goldstein.
Leander’s godparents are Jacob Kowalski and his father’s “indispensable” assistant Bunty Broadacre.
Lycidas’s godparents are Eulalie “Lally” Hicks and Theseus Scamander.
The only reason why Queenie isn’t the godmother of one of her nephews is because Tina wanted to wait until she had a daughter.
The twins grew up in England, but oftentimes visited their Kowalski relatives in America during the holidays.
For the most part both of the boys have British accents, but here and there you can sometimes hear their mother’s American twang slipping through, especially when they get excited or upset.
Leander and Lycidas were in their fourth year when Bellatrix Black enrolled at Hogwarts in 1962.
By the time Andromeda had began attending in 1964, the twins were already in their sixth year at Hogwarts.
With that being said, they didn’t have many interactions with the Black sisters as the twins were a bit older than the Marauders era.
I suppose in the original canon we could say that Leander and Lycidas were around when the Mcgonagall brothers were still at Hogwarts.
I’d pin Malcolm’s birth around 1940, and maybe Robert Junior would be a year or two younger than him so his year of birth would probably be 1942.
When the twins enrolled at Hogwarts Mal would’ve been seventeen, while Bob would’ve been fifteen.
But with the way HP canon is going right now we don’t actually know what years in which the Mcgonagalls were born, especially with Minerva’s plothole appearance in SoD.
Lycidas is a left-brainer, he is very strategical and thinks more with his head rather than his heart.
He is much like his uncle Theseus in this way, although Lycidas has a creative mind and is very skilled with charms.
This is something I’d think he would get from his godmother Lally.
I could see Lycidas maybe learning one of those portkey charms like the one Lally had with her book.
When he graduated Hogwarts, Lycidas planned on becoming an auror like Tina and Theseus.
Leander is the one who inherited his father’s compassionate nature and affinity with magical creatures.
He has a very sensitive soul and can be a little scatter-brained sometimes like Newt.
But one thing is for certain and that is not to underestimate him.
Leander has his mother’s stubbornness and his father’s inability to follow the rules.
Although these traits may be the culprit behind the countless detentions he’s received during his school years… oops.
Both Leander and Lycidas joined the Order of the Phoenix when Dumbledore first established it in the 1970s.
Lycidas is the father of Rolf Scamander, therefore making him the father-in-law of Luna Lovegood, as well as the grandfather of Lysander and Lorcan.

Nikobran give major girls-dad. And I'm glad we all collectively agree on that.
I see them with 3 beautiful triplets 😭🫶🏻.
Irina Sokolov-king ( or maybe kylie in honor of her grandfather)
Jasmine Sokolov- King ( In honor of her grandmother)
Jamie Sokolov- King ( In honor of her Grandfather)
.......
Irina the oldest of the triplet is somehow a mix of lan nd niko . She's definitely kind and generous to the people she cherish but wouldn't hesitate to give you hell for touching her family.
She's definitely narcissistic like her uncle Lan but not to the point of annoying.
She just knows she's that girl and everyone accepts it.
She's hella smart as well , like really smart. She's a women is STEM. And a worldwide famous figure skater.
She's also a bookworm. And is obsessed with pjo, HP.
She's kinda uncomfortable with the idea of relationship until she meets her person.
.......
Jasmine the middle child is full blown Niko. She's very violent and always angry when she doesn't get her way.
She's a very talented painter like her daddy. Almost everyone is in awe of her work. At how she can bring her paintings to life.
She's also a super fashionable girl. All her clothes are designer and custom made. Her sisters always tease her when she's dressed for the nine when they're just going to a simple hangouts.( she gets that from her aunty Maya)
She's kind of called a bully for telling people off when she's just being honest. She doesn't know the meaning of Sugarcoating and is similar to Irina in that department.
.........
Jamie the youngestis mini Brandon. Is the calm one of the bunch but with a RBF. Everyone is intimidated to approach her but once they get to know her she's the sweetest.
She's more reserved and quite than her sisters and is always observant.
She's a sketcher of all things. Give her a great pencil she'll sketch you in like an hour. ( She's freakishly talented) and is always approched by agents.
She's seen as the quite one yet She's always carefree with her sisters and parents.
She's absolutely terrified of any animals ,so much so that she's always fighting with Irina who's a lover of pets.
She's also really close to JerCes son ( X Volkov( name the kid)) to the point where they develop feelings for each other.
......
The triplets are attached at the hip and would never let anyone come between them.
They have annual hangouts every Thursday.
They have a special group hug whenever one sister accomplishs something , feeling down, or just in general.
Each sister have a favorite aunt and Uncle.
Irina: Lan and Maya ( she always admired how lans mind works , and she feels a deep connection to Maya since she was a kid and she doesn't even know why.)
Jas: Kill and Glyn ( She bonds with glyn over their shared love of painting and since killian wont separate from Glyn she doesn't have a choice but to be close with him as well, but ends up being really close.
Jamie: Jer and Ces ( She always loved the calmness they bring when they're around. Bonus point is that they become her in- laws😉)
Lan and Bran always admired they're closeness since they never got that.
Mia and Maya gets nostalgic when they see the sisters.
Lan always tells them to never hesitant to call him if anyone dared to upset them.
They're always surrounded by bodyguards to the point they beg Niko to down it down.
Niko never stressed or forced them with the obligations that comes with the Mafia world ( Arranged marriage )
They're super close to 4 grand parents. Kyle is their go to when they need some fun embarrassing stories abt niko.
Irina inherits her love of cooking from Brandon . It's their bonding time and will kick out the rest from the kitchen.
Overall they're one happy family.
..........
This are my imagination so please take this as a silly fic.

#FA1LMAGE: a dnd / bg3 / critical role rp blog for VI'HAAN TALDERESH, the disowned son of renowned sorcerer family Talderesh
Tumblr media
Vi'haan Talderesh (he/him, trans man, in his late 30s) is a half-elven wizard who comes from a renowned and well-respected family of sorcerers. At least, on his elven side. His human mother was a kind fighter who did not have a single magical bone in her body. His mother also died shortly after childbirth, a fact his father has not forgiven him for, even though Vi'haan did not ask to be born. Despite his own harsh feelings toward his youngest child, Vi'haan's father made sure he was well-fed and well schooled -- especially in the sorcery arts. Sadly no amount of tutoring could make up for the fact he did not inherit his family's sorcerer abilities.
Desperate to feel a sense of family amongst his two older half-siblings (same father, different mother) and to gain his father's approva, he secretly studied the art of wizardry, hoping that as long as he only cast spells both wizards and sorcerers are capable of casting that he could trick his family into thinking he was a sorcerer as well. Sadly his farce did not last long, with an ambitious maid discovering his spellbook in his bedroom and bringing it before his father, hoping for a promotion. She gained a promotion that day and he gained his father's ire.
Between his lack of magical ability and his lying, his father was beyond furious. His father gave him an ultimatum, accept his fate of not being a sorcerer and give up magic entirely (his family views both warlocks and wizards as beneath them ) and burn his spellbook before his father as a sign of goodwill, or get disowned. His spellbook was something he poured his heart and soul into, and the texts he read to study wizardry were written by wizards/mages who understood him. Much to the shock of his father and himself, he refused. Disowned and stripped of both last name and from the family tree, he no longer has ties to the family estate. All he has is a love for magic and a yearning to find new family/friends who care for him because of who he is, not who they want him to be.

!Live reaction! Rewatching HP and the Philosopher's Stone
Tumblr media
Harry is just wallowing in happiness trying to "grab a letter" in the air. Doesn’t even care if he’s got any, he’s dancing! So precious!!!
Tumblr media
Hagrid in gringotts whispering to the goblin he wants to withdraw “u know what” in vault “u know which” - such children literature mystery. Love it.
Except I also wondered how Harry is able to hear a word he said, Hagrid is so massive it must sound like he’s speaking from 2nd floor lol
Tumblr media
Also like, can’t Harry’s gold not be lumped and piled up with no decipherable order? At least put like every 1,000 together or something (yes I know, it’s to make Harry's fortune look like they’re endless hills and heaps)
Tumblr media
Olivander’s wand shop was since 382 BC. What’s the wizarding world’s relationship with religion anyways!! This has bothered me on many a sleepless night.
Tumblr media
Harry buying snacks on the train, he bought everything without even knowing what anything costs just knowing that he’s got enough gold for everything lmao
Such a child’s dream, the first thing u buy after coming to an inheritance is sweets
Tumblr media
Boats towards the castle, such a classic shot. My heart swells seeing Hogwarts, it’s like coming home!
Tumblr media
That’s not Maggie Smith, that’s Minerva Mcgonegall. You know on first sight this is not a woman u want to mess with.
Tumblr media
Oh come on Albus you can’t be so obvious in favouritism! (Dumbles: oh yes I can. 500 points to Gryffindor!)
Tumblr media
What a bloody cute and cozy dorm I wanna be here!!!!
youtube
Fucking hell snape! U wanna break the door?
Quidditch - slytherin plays so much foul??!!!!
Hermione IS a know it all! Snape is jinxing the broom? Instead of telling Hagrid who’s a full grown adult next to her, she’s gonna take him on herself lol
Harry looks so surprised when he spit out the snitch, what? He didn’t know he just almost swallowed the ball?!
Tumblr media
Emma’s wearing large front teeth, that’s why she had to speak so hard. Awww
Tumblr media
Harry meeting his parents in the Mirror of Erised the first time, I teared up and this isn’t the first time
Tumblr media
Poor Ron. He looked sooo scared when he moved his knight to be sacrificed. Poor baby :( brave boy.
Quirrell clicked his fingers and the fire lit up in the final room hiding the stone - windless magic!
Children literature villain strikes again ;u; his way of being intimidating is just to shout and yell.
Tumblr media
Quirrell died, but the fire didn’t go out, must be a bug. Thought when a person dies the spell they cast would be broken as well. (Dumbles killed by Avada kedevra)
Oh but maybe because Voldy is still "alive" so the spell still works? Honestly who knows.
Tumblr media
And my god, from Jude Law to Richard Harris, what’s happened to Dumbles’ fashion preference and hair!!
Dumbledore bullying Slytherin in front of the whole school at the year end feast. SMH.
Also, from my memory being a teenager, having your name and deeds shouted out in front of the whole school (even if they’re good deeds and win your house points) is a supremely embarrassing experience!! Help!!

LEGISLATURE
The Wizengamot serves as the parliament of Wixen Britain. It is a composite chamber made up of 25 Elders, as part of a hereditary peerage system, and 50 elected Members of the Wizengamot.
There are no formal political parties in the Wizengamot. However, the Minister typically relies on the support of certain loose factions and patronage networks in the legislature in order to pass laws. For an Act of Wizengamot to be passed, it must be voted in by a simple majority. For laws relating to constitutional changes, a two thirds majority is required.
Elders of the Wizengamot
The twenty five Elders (who are granted the title of Lord, Lady, or Liege) represent certain ancient constituencies which are determined by family origin. These twenty five peerages are represented by Britain’s noble Houses.
The current noble Houses are as follows:  Abbott  Avery  Black  Bulstrode  Burke  Carrow  Crouch  Fawley  Flint  Greengrass  Lestrange  Longbottom  Macmillan  Malfoy  Nott  Ollivander  Parkinson  Prewett  Rosier  Rowle  Selwyn  Shacklebolt  Shafiq  Travers  Yaxley
The inheritance rules of such peerages largely adhere to the Peerage Act of 1963: descent is always to the heirs of the body, regardless of gender. A person who is a possible heir to a peerage is said to be "in remainder". In the past, peerages were sometimes forfeit or attainted, as determined by the other Elders. This was the case with the Weasleys and Potters whose titles were forfeited due to their historical practices of “diluting” magical blood.
A title becomes extinct when all possible heirs have died out; i.e., there is nobody in remainder at the death of the holder. A title becomes dormant if nobody has claimed the title, or if no claim has been satisfactorily proven. A title goes into abeyance if there is more than one person equally entitled to be the holder.
Members of the Wizengamot
Following the Reform Act of 1892, the Wizengamot was modestly expanded to enfranchise part of the population. Today, two thirds of the Wizengamot are now elected by the public.
There are a total of fifty elected Members of the Wizengamot, each one representing a particular constituency of voters in the United Kingdom. These boroughs do not reflect the Muggle Parliament’s constituencies due to the much smaller wixen electorate.
Each MW is elected during a general election which takes place every five years by custom. However, the Minister of Magic has the power to call an early election, though they cannot delay or postpone one without the consent of the Wizengamot.
EXECUTIVE
In Wixen Britain, the executive branch comprises the Minister of Magic and their Cabinet. The Minister of Magic acts as the head of state and is appointed by the Wizengamot from within their own ranks through an internal vote.
Once voted in, each Minister selects their own Cabinet, a group which acts as the Ministry of Magic’s senior decision-making body. Cabinet members are typically civil servants who by virtue of their appointment are granted a vote in the Wizengamot. However, if a Cabinet member is already a voting elder or member of the Wizengamot, they do not have an additional vote.
The Cabinet is made up of the Heads of the ‘Big Five’ Departments in the Ministry of Magic: the Treasury, the DMLE, the Department of Mysteries, the Department of International Magical Co-operation, and the Home Department.
JUDICIARY
Unlike in the HP canon verse, all trials, courts, and tribunals operate independently of the Wizengamot.
The Wixen Supreme Council is the highest court in Britain and is the final court of appeals, established to decide on the most important or controversial points of law. It is made up of eight judges who are initially appointed by the Minister for Magic from a list of recommendations put together by the Wixen Independent Judicial Commission. A Supreme Council judge’s tenure is for life. Judges do not sit on every case but are allocated cases from the docket so that there is an odd number of judges for each trial.
Beyond the Supreme Council, Wixen Britain’s judicial system by and large follows that of the muggle version. For matters of criminal law, prosecutions are carried out by the Wixen Prosecution Service operating under the DMLE. The WPS’ duty is to make sure that the right person is prosecuted for the right offence, and to bring offenders to justice wherever possible. Their work ultimately relies on the co-operation of the Aurors and other DMLE offices in terms of evidence and coordination.

Only an ancient or adult true dragon can be transformed into a dracolich. Younger dragons that attempt to undergo the transformation die, as do other creatures that aren't true dragons but possess the dragon type, such as Pseudodragons and Wyverns. A shadow dragon can't be transformed into a dracolich, for it has already lost too much of its physical form.
When a dragon becomes a dracolich, it retains its statistics except as described below. The dragon loses any trait, such as Amphibious, that assumes a living physiology. The dracolich might retain or lose any or all of its lair actions or inherit new ones, as the DM sees fit.
Type. The dracolich's type changes from dragon to undead, and it no longer requires air, food, drink, or sleep.
Damage Resistance. The dracolich has resistance to necrotic damage.
Damage Immunities. The dracolich has immunity to poison. It also retains any immunities it had prior to becoming a dracolich.

Following Thea’s revelations, the pair moved on to discussing Thea’s knowledge of Tom that she had learned from the books and her own research which included her previous trip to Little Hangleton. The lingering flames continued to spark inside Tom and showed no signs of death even as time ticked away, a welcomed warmth coursing through his veins that comforted him and emitted his sense of peace to the surrounding air that he was almost certain Thea could feel it. She had created a space that made him feel safe and he could only wonder how his eyes looked as he gazed at her; adoringly fond, perhaps? That same emotion reflected similarly in her eyes and, for the first time ever, he kept the eye contact not to assert confidence nor to read minds, but because he yearned to be the subject of those feelings she held. As his mind raced with appreciation for Thea – the flames crackled stronger with every thought – he hadn’t even realised that he had subconsciously tuned out his other senses until he saw the amusement etched onto her face and took notice of her upturned lips that had stopped moving.
Tom blinked twice in rapid succession and Thea took that as an indication that he was returning to reality. “You feeling alright there, Tom?”
“Apologies, I hadn’t meant to get distracted.”
She waved his apologies off easily. “Happens to the best of us.” Her unfailing kindness only pulled out a slight smile from Tom which only widened her own. “As I was saying about the Riddles, they’re filthy rich. They own much of the land in and around Little Hangleton which means they’ve got plenty of properties and the potential to create more. So, hypothetically, if they had a son, their son would inherit all their assets as per the law. And hence, hypothetically, if you were to show up on their doorsteps one day without the Trace tracking you, just having a chat with the family could, say, make them accept you? You do, after all, resemble Tom Riddle Senior so, what would stop them from doing so? Then, once they sadly die in a tragic accident or of old age somehow – hypothetically of course – you would have full reign over the use of these assets either in the muggle world or the wizarding world. Let’s say, for example, a home that cares for orphaned or unwanted magical children? With proper and humane adoption, foster, and care practices, of course.”
Thea gave Tom some time for him to jot down the ideas and his thoughts onto his notebook. Only when he had paused in his writing did she pipe up again. “I do advice against the Imperius spell, however. There’s a handful of people in the manor and keeping up the curse consistently for all of them – at least until their memories have been tweaked – would only drain your magic before you can even tap into their minds.”
“What do you suggest, then?”
“The Confundus Charm.” Thea grinned when she received a sceptical eyebrow raise from Tom and continued, “it has – or rather, it would have in the nineties – worked successfully on the Goblet of Fire with no hassle. It’s an underestimated charm, really. It’ll work nicely to confuse the inhabitants of the estate enough to hear you out and be rendered absolutely defenceless against you manipulating their memories. The spell is a one-time-cast spell so you wouldn’t need to maintain it for an extended period of time, and hence, it’s a more viable option for your case – at least I think so.”
Tom ran the idea in his head a couple of times before coming to the same conclusion as Thea. His hands moved continuously as Thea proceeded to relay everything she knew about Little Hangleton and the Riddles that would immensely help his plans, from the identities of the staffs of Riddle Manor to the stories she had heard circulating in the small town.
“So, my mother had thought that he would love her if he found out that she was birthing his babe… and hence, she ceased bewitching him with Amortentia.” Tom had only repeated Thea’s words and shot her a bemused look when she frowned. “Is that not right?”
“No- I mean, yes! That is what I said… but I just remembered that it was simply a speculation from Dumbledore – and perhaps Morfin might have thought it too; claimed that it was more likely that she had used a love potion than the Imperius Curse because it would have been more romantic in her eyes. If that was the case, however, I do wonder where she would’ve gotten the potion or ingredients from.”
Tom gave a hum as he, too, questioned the circumstances. “The Gaunts certainly had no assets to spare, and you mentioned that Merope sold the locket only once she had been abandoned. She couldn’t have easily found pearl dust nor powdered moonstone either which meant that she would have had to have purchased them somewhere.”
“And those aren’t cheap goods! Moreover, there’s no record of her attending Hogwarts nor had there been any news of her enrolment in any other schools, so she must have been home-taught magic. Marvolo wasn’t exactly the best in spellwork but if there was anything he was at least somewhat proficient at, they would be jinxes and curses.”
“Like the Imperius Curse.”
“Exactly.”
They shared a look of deep thought for a moment before Thea popped the bubble with a wave of her hand as she shrugged, “either way – whether you had been born under a love potion or not – you’re still very much a whole person who can love. Just as love potions can’t manipulate genuine infatuation, Magic has no right to meddle with a person’s gift to love. If you have to learn, then so be it! I’ll teach you myself if Dumbledore is so adamant that Magic conquers love – which is ironic considering how much he goes on about love being the strongest power of all.”
Thea – bless her – averted her eyes and stared into space as she nonchalantly muttered nonsense about ticking off her mental list of topics she should discuss with Tom as a way to stall time for the latter, who had gone unresponsive. His hand had stilled in place with an inked quill in his grip above his notebook while his eyes glazed over as he retracted into his mind unintentionally. Teach me herself? What does that entail exactly…What was it that she had said earlier?
‘If given the opportunity to have grown up in a loving household where there was someone who loved them, these children would have learned that love was a beautiful thing, not just a potion that led to disasters.’
Hence, to learn to love, was to be loved? So, if Thea had just volunteered to teach Tom to love, had she also given her say that she would willingly love him? Did she even know what she had just insinuated? …Perhaps he was thinking too much about it.
Regardless, the thought spun continuously in his head persistently and he was forced to be subjected to the idea that there was someone out there who thought that he could be loved and wasn’t too opposed to love him herself; and it wasn’t just anybody, it was Thea. The girl who constantly reminded him of home despite the fact that he had never had one to turn to for comfort. The only person in his life, thus far, who had invoked new feelings in him that he used to deem plebeian and worthless. The more he grappled with the concept of being loved by Thea, the more he found the notion appealing but unfathomable. After all, why would someone as sweet as her want him?
What would it be like, he wondered, to be loved by her? Then, her voice rang in his head and the image suddenly didn’t seem so impossible.
‘‘Cause I like you, of course.’
To have said that even with the other-worldly knowledge of his mistakes and flaws… To want to help him because she believed that he deserved it…
It poked his mind that perhaps – just maybe – he was already starting to learn.
A minute or a few had already passed by the time he had escaped the maze of tempting thoughts. He cleared his throat to signal his readiness for the conversation to continue and Thea paused in her mumble of deriding Dumbledore to turn back to him. “Oh, right! Where were we?”
Tom quirked the corner of his lips up amusedly at having caught the last bits of her contempt for the transfigurations professor. “We’ve just discussed the nature of my birth.”
Thea snapped her fingers in remembrance. “Of course! And with your birth, comes your status as the heir to the Slytherin name.”
“I’ll be honest, I’m still not too convinced that I’ll be accepted to hold the title.”
“That’s fair,” Thea shrugged, it has been a concerning number of generations since the last time the House had accepted a member so I see where your worries lie. I suppose, we’ll just have to see how your meeting with Gringotts go once you’ve come of age.”
“Speaking of meetings, may I trouble you for a favour?”
The plain innocence and lack of apprehension in Thea’s expression as she indicated for him to continue was doubtlessly something he would have to get used to – and the others would have to too, if the favour he was about to ask for goes well. “Seeing as I now know that you aren’t against our ambitions, I was wondering if I could have a moment of your time to arrange a proper introductory meeting between you and the rest of the men? Your insights have been tremendously helpful and I figured that the others might demand for the source herself if I were to update them with the changes in the plan.”
“Oh?” Eyes wide in surprise at the unexpected proposition, Thea rolled her head to the right as she considered the potential outcome of such a situation. She would get an opportunity to say her piece to the boys and she could see for herself just the type of people they were. In conclusion, no drawbacks! “Yeah, I could do that! When and where would work for all of you?”
“This place has been fairly private, especially with the addition of the privacy ward, so I was thinking…”
They spent the final couple of minutes planning for an appropriate setting to conduct the meeting at before wrapping up their own current discussion so that they didn’t miss dinner seeing as they had already taken up an ample bit of the evening by then. Almost a week of seeing the new norm of the pair walking together had eased up the rumours going around the mill but that hadn’t stopped her year-mates from hypothesising scandalous tales about them whenever they came across the ‘mismatched’ partners. Nonetheless, both objects of the stories had no issue ignoring the whispers; though Thea often found herself receiving side-eyes wherever she went, it mattered not if she was in her dormitory or in the courtyard. On the other hand, the snakes knew better than to treat Tom – and by extension, Thea – the same way. If Thea had noticed that there were significantly less glares from the Slytherins, she shrugged it off as a mutual understanding that the green and silver house, too, had had their fair share of receiving unjustified contempt.
Following their shared double potions class the next day, Thea and Tom led the way to the library as Avery, Rosier, and Mulciber tagged along behind them. Tom had extended his favour to his circle the previous night and they had all expressed their anticipation in getting to know the girl that had caught Tom’s eyes – not that they were frank with the last bit. As expected, when the group had made it to the same plenty-deserted rectangular table in the library, Lestrange and Nott were already present and sat across each other. The boys shared greetings as Mulciber and Avery joined to the right of Lestrange, Rosier sat left to Nott and was joined by Thea to his own left, while Tom headed one end of the table adjacent to Avery and Thea. As the one who had assembled the group, everyone looked to Tom to commence the conversation.
“I thought proper introductions were due and have, therefore, set this up. Thea,” the aforementioned girl perked up at Tom’s call and she turned to face the others when Tom gestured around, “in front of you, in clockwise direction, is Lazarus Avery, Dylan Mulciber, Eugene Lestrange, Gallagher Nott, and Edward Rosier. Lestrange and Nott are seventh-years while the others, you’ve seen in shared classes.” Then, he redirected his hand towards Thea, “boys, this is Theana Grace.”
“It is wonderful to meet the heirs to the most ancient houses of Wizarding Britain.”
Caught off-guard at Thea’s use of their jargon and her purposeful omittance of the ‘noble’ title, the boys had to swiftly rethink their responses to reply accordingly. Some ended up stumbling over their words at the hesitance of discarding one aspect of their house title while others kept it in nevertheless. Once the greetings were done, the formalities went away with it and Lestrange addressed Tom, who had erected a privacy ward around them. “What’s on the agenda today? You spoke of nothing last night and only mentioned that all would be revealed here.”
Tom shared a glance with Thea. “As you all know, there’s been a halt in our plans due to Thea’s unexpected arrival at the end of last year and ever since, we had yet to determine if she was an ally or a foe.” At this, Thea sported a sheepish grin. “That has changed as of yesterday and after much deliberation with Thea, the plan has changed. As it turns out, she is more than a mere ally and I imagined that you would all request to speak with her had I, alone, shared with you the new plan. Thus, here she is in advance.”
Clear suspicion was shared amongst those unfamiliar with Thea despite their unwavering trust in Tom. “And how has the plan changed?”
Eyes followed Tom’s as he looked towards Thea. The pair had discussed how they were to approach this beforehand and, as agreed, Tom had given Thea the autonomy to speak. Thea clasped her hands on the table and started with a harmless smile, “horcruxes;” Rosier nearly spluttered beside her, “nasty bit of soul magic right there, wouldn’t you say so? There’s not much that’s been written about it seeing as Herpo the Foul was – or is – the only one in history’s record who has created one. In the paraphrased words of Adalbert Waffling’s first Fundamental Laws of Magic, messing around with your own soul breeds negative consequences one probably can’t even fathom. In other words: if you fuck around, you find out.”
Rosier wasn’t alone in choking on air out of sheer astoundment over Thea’s candour this time. Having heard her vulgarity previously, Tom was only slightly nonplussed. Brushing off the reactions she had gotten, Thea simply continued, “as it so happens, I’ve seen the effects of horcrux magic on a person before and it really isn’t pretty.”
Then she regaled the circumstances in which horcruxes had destroyed the brightest of minds and had rendered him a tyrant consumed with blood purity ideals despite his half-blood identity. She told of how the creation of such objects had drove him insane and inhumane in every way while still retaining the mentality of a teen despite the decades that had passed, the way he had gained an obsession with a mere boy just because a prophecy – that he hadn’t heard – had spelled out his doom – which had come true, no thanks to his own actions – and how he had been so- “-stupid! I mean- really?! If you were to come face to face with a baby who you aim to kill, what would you do?”
The sudden detour of her discourse combined with her heated tone took all of them by surprise and Avery, being the one who Thea had locked eyes with at that moment, could only answer truthfully. “The Killing Curse?”
“What is it with y- no! You lift the baby up and drop them out the damn window! Or better yet, just to counter the possibility that accidental magic may levitate them down safely, you snap their necks and get it over with! Honestly! If you get the chance to meet the person who you think would cause your downfall, why would you use something as unpredictable as magic?! Granted, in the tyrant’s defence, no one could have seen the ‘love is magic’ bull coming – which I really do think is just blood protection magic – but I’m telling you, if you ever encounter such a situation, you might be better off just dealing practical, physical damage. After all, the night the boy had killed the tyrant, the tyrant had actually hit the boy with another Killing Curse and- voila! He didn’t die! But of course, the tyrant couldn’t have known he had come back to life because the Killing Curse leaves no physical signs that harm has been inflicted – beneficial in some cases, not in this situation. If only the boy had been stabbed or- I don’t know, gutted? The tyrant could’ve easily seen that the boy had been very much alive when he healed up magically; or perhaps the boy would actually remain dead if the damage couldn’t be reversed – the Killing Curse doesn’t exactly affect the victim physically, besides stopping their life, so there was nothing that had to be ‘reversed’ and the boy could just up and go! Not to mention his idiotic lau- wait. That’s not- what was I talking abou-”
It was only then that Thea had realised her digression of topic and she clicked her mouth shut immediately. Silence fell upon the table at the cessation of Thea’s rant and as the nearby clock ticked away, Thea felt the creeping heat approach her cheeks and ears and subconsciously brought a hand up to shield her fluster from the gobsmacked faces around her. Averting her eyes only made matters worse when she ended up turning to her left; upon her sights landing on Tom, she was reminded of the fact that the person she had been disparaging about had once been his future self and she had to use up all her willpower to not bash her head against the nearest surface. No drawbacks, my ass- I’ve made a fool of myself.
Tom, meanwhile, could only regard her with desire and need lighting his every cell aflame; now more than ever, he wanted her to teach him how to love so that he could love her in all the ways she deserved and nothing less. Salazar, he yearned to give her everything he could provide and more. Oh, how he longed for her to love him for- nothing could ever amount to her willingly-given love.
He had spent the previous night with thoughts of what could have been plaguing his mind and, by morning time, he had learnt to separate Voldemort’s identity from his own current life. Every – justified – critique that Thea had just thrown at Voldemort was of no offence to Tom and he, himself, agreed with her perspective the more she shared about the plain stupid rules that Voldemort had played by. Tom’s appreciation for her only grew the more she condemned his alternate life’s future actions because she had been unashamed in conveying her disappointment for the un-whole soul of a man and yet she could look at Tom with utter pride and admiration.
Thea was a blessing in person and- Merlin could not save him if he was to fuck up after all that she had done out of the goodness of her heart.
A clear of her throat and a quiet, shy, “sorry,” brought the entire table back into reality from their own respective thoughts but the silence remained as everyone struggled to piece together their words.
“You’re alright, love.”
The flummoxed expression of five men stood no chance in swaying Tom’s composure against the embarrassed but grateful countenance of the one woman in front of him. He countered her smile with a reassuring one of his own and turned to regard the others with a raised eyebrow. That seemed to snap them out of their speechlessness – whilst simultaneously adding into their incredulity – and they switched their attentions back to Thea.
“Say, who… exactly… is this person you’ve been talking about? The entirety of your story wouldn’t have been swept under a rug and yet records have named Herpo as the only person who has ever dipped into horcrux magic.”
The return to the topic in hand quelled the flush in her cheeks as Thea grinned playfully and extended a hand in Tom’s direction. “Who else could it be, if not Tom had I not interfered with fate, of course!”
The ludicrousness of the situation was incomparable to any other events in the boys’ life as they stared at Thea for a brief moment, before rotating their heads to face Tom in comical unison, the absurdity clear in their eyes only intensifying when Tom kept up his unbothered façade. With a casual shrug and two words, he sent everyone into a ruckus.
“It’s true.”
“What the actual fuck do you mean-”
“You’re not actually being serious.”
“How-”
“Since when were you a tyrant?!”
“You failed to kill a baby?!”
When the noise didn’t die down after the first round of bizarre accusations, Tom called out with a grimace, “alright- settle down, boys- settle down!”
Thea had to stifle her laughter at the obvious restrain the boys had to pull up to quieten down and faked naivete when all of them sent her varying degrees of suspicious looks except Tom, who only watched her with fond exasperation.
“As impossible as it sounds, yes, Thea was referring to an alternate me in those recounts. Just as she has claimed, had she not barged into fate’s space and woven the thread herself, I would have gone down the exact route that would have made me an insane, diabolical tyrant.”
“‘Lord Voldemort’, so he would call himself,” another giggle almost left Thea at the cringe Tom gave and she settled, instead, into a wide beam, “I’d tell you the inspiration behind the name but it would send me to an early grave at the hands of dear Tom.”
Without a pause, Tom shot back easily, “oh, I could never harm you, darling.”
“Is that so, sweetheart?”
There were certainly more terms of endearment shared between them in the span of the past five minutes than in the entire week prior. Judging by the softness of Tom’s gaze and the upturn of Thea’s lips, however, there was no doubt, even to the spectators, that the pair had found a fancy to this new level of familiarity in their relationship. They were quick to remember their audience, howbeit, and they resumed their discussion with a fresh lightness in their psyche.
Thea spared them a light-hearted apology, “sorry for the mystification caused by my presence thus far, boys. That was unintended.”
“But- I still don’t understand how you could have known all that!”
Mulciber had been the first to handle disregarding – for the meantime – the new side to Tom that Thea had brought out and had expressed his befuddlement. The rest of the snakes proceeded to follow suit and mumbled in agreement at the unanswered mystery. “How did you know?”
“Oh, I’m a clairvoyant.”
The indifferent manner in which Thea had finally cleared up the misunderstanding made it so that her words almost slipped past the boys’ comprehension. She received blank stares all around and only cocked her head to the side which snapped them all out of their daze.
“No shot-”
“Alright, we’re not doing this again- yes, she’s a clairvoyant. I’ve checked with her and she’s proven herself trustworthy.”
Tom had been the one to suggest disguising her source of information as a divination vision she had gotten to minimise the risk of her secret, of remembering her past life where the current world was fictional, falling into the wrong hands. Seers were highly sought after in the magical world and there existed people who would go to far lengths just to obtain one such gifted being – how much more would Thea’s circumstances be coveted by those people? While Tom had vouched for the boys’ occlumency competence, he had deemed it safer to divulge only a part of her true nature and Thea was all the more agreeable when she considered the possibility of some mad magical scientist kidnapping her to dissect and experiment on her.
“Right. Okay. So- Grace is a seer, who has seen the bleak future in her foresight abilities, and had decided to prevent it all from happening- by giving you book recommendations?! You’ve seen how grim and bloody the future could be and you chose to stop it by sending a note!”
“Well- if you put it that way…” A lopsided smile painted Thea’s lips as she thought about her actions in hindsight before shrugging offhandedly. “And it worked, didn’t it?”
They all looked at her in disbelief but relented at her proven success. “I mean- I guess…”
Now that the long-awaited clarification of her intentions had been declared, the group soon moved on to divulging the newly renovated plans that Thea and Tom had concocted.
“…hence, we will continue to seek out people who would side with our mission in the shadows for the meantime. If I do end up inheriting the Slytherin lordship come the end of the year, we won’t have to stay as hidden as I’ll imagine the ministry would call for my attendance in the Wizengamot as the lordship would come with a seat at the court. Following my coming of age, too, will be my visit to the Riddles where I will have them officially name me a successor to all their assets.”
Tom paused unhesitatingly when he noticed a frown on Thea and gave her his full attention. “Is there something wrong, love?”
“Hm?” Having been listening to his words intently, Thea belatedly processed his unexpected address of her. “Oh- no, it’s nothing- okay well, not nothing actually, but…” She gave herself a momentary break to fully form her words and inwardly thanked Tom for his patience. “Okay, so- when you mention that you’ll seek people out, do they include women?”
A couple of blinks from everyone told Thea all that she needed to know. She gave an audible wince but nodded in understanding. “Right- so- this may sound biased considering… you know, I’m a girl and all… but I do actually come from an objective standpoint when I say that I highly suggest you recruit the ladies too.”
That earned her a mix of intrigued and doubtful looks. Nott was the latter when he asked, “they don’t exactly have any influence in the stance of the houses, though. But then again, you’ve yet to make an unreasonable point so far.”
“Ah, but that’s not quite right, is it? Let’s say, while you, men, are chatting politics in a soirée, what do the ladies talk about?”
“Gossips?”
“And how do you feel about Simon Yaxley?”
“A disgrace!” Just as Thea had expected, an outburst came from Lestrange. “Honestly, how could he?! To treat his wife so violently and callously, has he no sense?! That’s no man right there – he’s an absolute disappointment to his house.”
Rosier piped up next, “and he still has the gall to request for the other houses’ support for his intention to campaign as the next minister. He should be thanking Merlin that his in-laws opted not to avenge his wife for all the disgusting acts he’s done.”
The others looked just as furious as the two men as they nodded along. An expression of content flitted past Thea’s face and she internally patted herself for a job well done in luring them all into her trap. “Yaxley had all the support he needed prior to this ordeal, didn’t he?” When they confirmed affirmatively, she continued, “so he had lost everything when it was revealed that he was a domestic abuser… enlighten me, how had you been made aware of Lady Yaxley’s distress?”
“Well, my mother brought it up at dinner- oh…”
The others looked to Avery curiously when he lit up in realisation mid-sentence. Before he could resume, however, Mulciber cut in, “oh, wait, was that also after Lady Black’s tea party? Because my mother did that too! Our fathers had a Wizengamot meeting the next day and word had already spread about Lord Yaxley by then somehow- oh… wow.”
More confusion.
“Now that you mentioned it, that was also the same day I learnt of Yaxley’s misdeeds! My father had gotten so pissed off that he nearly flooed over to Yaxley’s that night!”
“Hold on- I think we’re in the same boat?”
“Same here! What’s going on?”
Thea took pride in the approving smile Tom shot her as she basked in the disorientation of the boys. “Boys, boys, boys.” That recaptured everyone’s attention. “What do your experiences that day have in common?”
“…Lady Black’s tea party,” Mulciber replied sheepishly.
Dots began connecting in the rest of the boys’ head and they turned to Thea, dumbfounded. Rosier then adds in, “wait, how did you even know about it?!”
“Hm? I didn’t.” Thea snorted a laugh when some of them dropped their jaws. “You said it yourself; the ladies gossip. I figured Lady Yaxley would’ve confided in a fellow lady of her status or higher, seeing as men tend to dismiss women a lot,” At least they had the shame to not argue against her pointed look, “and the news about Yaxley did appear out of nowhere, so it made sense that the mothers could have devised a plan to overturn his standing overnight. That was all just my theory though; and you’ve kindly provided the proof.”
Silence, then- “what are you?”
Thea shrugged. “A woman.”
When no one had more to add in – too caught up in questioning their beliefs – Thea took the opportunity to add oil into the fire. “Honestly, you boys would not survive one day in high society in the heels of a lady. To live through the circulating slanders and scandals that eye your every move and come out of the battlefield winning? That takes impressive skills. Those innocent fronts that hide schemes and strategies could fool even Grindelwald – and have, mind you – and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve got blackmail over a handful of people each. These women have had etiquette drilled into them by other women ever since they were babies. Experiences on top of experiences have been passed on to them and they have established their own social circles even by this age- really, you should consider yourself blessed if they would even give you the time of the day.”
The questions and doubts came in after that and Thea had no trouble deflecting them on the fly. The focus eventually shifted to inbreeding – which Thea had more than a couple words to say about – and then they had somehow started to discuss squibs.
“Oh, I’ve actually included that in the list of texts that I’ve suggested to Tom.”
“Funny, I had planned to bring that up this weekend too.”
“I guess I may as well make your life easier and tackle that now while you’ve got me to help you. Right, boys, are you aware of the evidence that has traced muggleborns back to pureblood lineages? Research has suggested that the more inbred you are, the likelier you’d turn out to be a squib, and that muggleborns are simply descendants of these people whose inherited magic has activated after generations of staying dormant in the blood.”
Needless to say, Thea and Tom had found themselves busy with changing the purebloods’ inherent denial and prejudice that evening and they ended up having an interlude when the bell had rung and the five of them had to leave for transfiguration. Thea sent Tom her best wishes – and amusement – when they parted ways for dinner as she would be unable to support him when Tom had to handle resuming the discussion afterwards in the Slytherin common room.
All in all, the meeting had gone great! And when Thea noticed the boys engaging in conversation with Druella Rosier and Walburga Black later that week, she felt a kindling warmth in her heart.

hi op!! hope you're doing well. genuine question, but do you think lucius pays his taxes? he makes public donations and associates with the ministry to a rather personal extent that i imagine he at least forks over some to whatever department at the MoM handles taxes but he does strike me as the person who'd at least find ways to evade being taxed (writing off business dealings as personal purchases to avoid getting taxed for them, donating to charity to get a write-off for the money, having some under the table deals so what taxes he has to pay for wiltshire are rather minimized) but what do you think?
Now I'm thinking about how taxes work in the wizarding world.
Okay, so one of the interesting things about HP is that pure-blood wizards are sort of stuck in the 1700s. There are a few aesthetic/fashion details from the 1800s, but in terms of tech level and the way the world is set up, we're still pre-industrial revolution. Which makes sense! The wizards never had an industrial revolution, and split away from the muggle world in the late 1600s.
(Phillip Pullman was also doing a psuedo 1700s-1800s thing for his children's fantasy series at around the same time. Cannot prove that JKR has any knowledge of His Dark Materials, but another English author writing a similar kind of book? Stealth-setting a book in the 1700s isn't such an out-there choice.)
That means a lot of the issues people have with the HP world building are really just issues with... life in the 1700s. Why is there no mental health care? 1700s. Why is the Hogwarts curriculum so weird? 1700s. Why is slavery okay? 1700s. Why is there no drinking age, and you can just purchase drugs (love potion) over the counter? 1700s.
In a similarly 1700s way, the Wizarding World seems to be composed of semi-autonomous fiefdoms, which report back to the Ministry of Magic. On paper, the Ministry has has control over Hogwarts, St. Mungos, the various pure-blood estates. Whether or not that's that's totally true... I mean the Ministry tries and fails to take over Hogwarts in Book 5, and in Book 2 they clearly *try* to prosecute the Malfoys for holding dark contraband, but never get very far.
Here's what I would do, if I were writing something political based in the Harry Potter universe. The Wizengamot seems to be the oldest ruling body (its name is a pun on the Wittengamot, which is from the 7th century.) So probably those seats are inherited (House of Lords style) possibly with a magical component involved. New members can be added, but only by existing members voting them in. The Wizengamot serves as the High Court (as we see - more normal cases are processed by the Council of Magical Law, and Arthur is really wrong-footed when he hears Harry is getting a *Wizengamot* trial.)
They also probably have some sort of pass/veto power, and the power to elect/replace a Minister of Magic. (the position was "offered" to Dumbledore multiple times, but he turned it down. So he's definitely not campaigning in a general election.) I doubt they actually *write* laws - that seems to be handled by the more bureaucratic-flavored Ministry members like Arthur and Percy, who do *not* sit on the Wizengamot.
I'd also have it so that taxes were handled in a more 1700s style. There'd be a lot of sales tax, which the Ministry would be able to enforce because I'm pretty sure they they oversee food production. There would also be a fee for the various Ministry-run procedures like booking overseas portkeys (and legal-social functions? the officiant at Dumbledore's funeral and Fleur's wedding is pretty Ministry coded.) "Pay a fine" seems to be a pretty common punishment in this world - which isn't a tax, but definitely a way for the Ministry to make money. I wonder if people like Ludo Bagman *bought* his position. It would be very 1700s of him.
Then there's property tax, and this is where the the old pure-blood families on the Wizangamot come in. I think the Ministry presents a budget to the Wizangamot, and *they* make up the difference, among themselves. At which point yes of course Lucius finds ways to weasel out of paying if he doesn't like the current minister, if he doesn't like the deal he's getting, if he's just feeling pissy that day, whatever. But at the end of the day, they collect their own taxes from the various spheres they control.
Now we're getting into headcanons, but I think the Malfoy money comes from primarily being landlords. At *very least,* Malfoy Manor has a magical satellite village (a la Hogsmeade or Ottery St. Catchpole) that they just own and probably low-key police. (they probably also just own a chunk of Wiltshire.) I also highly, highly doubt that the Malfoys gave up all their ties to the muggle world post Statue of Secrecy. If every new Muggle Prime Minister has a meeting with the Minister of Magic, then... I bet every time Lloyds of London gets a new CEO, Lucius Malfoy shows up to say, "We get 1.5% off the top. My bankers will be in touch." Goblins don't care about the Ministry's laws even slightly, and there's got to be an exchange rate if Hermione's parents can show up to Diagon Alley and buy her books.
All of the old pureblood families are going to have their own *thing,* their own under-the table agreements and sweetheart deals. The Blacks strike me as being big into shipping, probably because they're so based in *London.* But yeah, at least to me, this is the sort of thing that gels with the universe that we see.
(Hogwarts and St. Mungo's would be funded the same way, on a smaller scale. A huge part of St. Mungo's budget just seems to be the Malfoys. And Hogwarts has a board of governors who under normal circumstances raise money and make decisions on how to run the school... but they don't seem especially powerful these days. I'll bet it's because whatever endowment Hogwarts has/whatever funds Dumbledore has at his disposal *are* enough to run it... which is why Dumbledore can do whatever he wants, and becomes an almost independent political entity.)

my personal problem with "alternatives to harry potter" is that I am here for the fandom, not the canon, and there isn't really anything else with that kind of volume of fic and volume of unhinged AUs? I cannot walk into like, fuck idk the fandom for Patricia C Wrede's The Enchanted Forest Chronicles (❤) or something, and expect to be able to find hundreds of thousands of words of random genres like 'marriage law' and 'creature inheritance' and 'magical wedding that revives dead men as Hermione Granger's husbands' and 'horcrux soulbond' and 'I just inherited control of like 1/4 of the government and I am going to make it less corrupt because that's how logic works I guess'
if anyone has suggestions for a similar *fandom* I guess I'm open to that but like. gestures. where else will I find my cathartic ridiculously overwrought child abuse and rescue from child abuse fics. who else is doing that. who is doing enemies to lovers soulbonds.
--
No other fandom will be exactly the same, but any megafandom will have plenty of wacky stuff going on. It's just that canon similar to HP =/= thing that currently has a megafandom on the fic side of things.

T and U?
T: Any fandom tropes you can’t stand?
Tricky question. If written well, I'll pretty much read anything. But there are a couple of things I tend to skip over more often than others.
Inheritance laws and lordships: unless the fic is set in the Middle Ages, I don't see the appeal. It gets too political for me to enjoy.
Character bashing: especially Ron bashing or Molly bashing. They can be bad characters who do bad things, but I prefer when they're more nuanced.
Pregnancy fics: I just don't have any interest in being or reading about being pregnant at the moment. I don't mind pregnancy (and Mpreg) coming up in a fic, but I usually dip out if it's the main premise of the fic.
THAT BEING SAID, I have read some absolutely FANTASTIC fics with these exact tropes. So, really, I don't know what to tell ya lol.
U: Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
Oh my goodness. Here we go. What a fun question! I feel like my answer is constantly changing, so I'll go with the authors I'm obsessed with at the moment.
Eldritcher (eldritcher-fic on DW)
I love their unique style of writing. It's like a mix of poetry and prose that always invokes such strong emotions. I've found so many new ships because of them, and they aren't afraid to dive into dark topics and unique characterizations. Some of my favorite fics by them are Exaltation (Dudley/Severus), Plenitude (Hermione/Amelia Bones), and Gyre and Gimble (Charity Burbage/Draco).
Schmem_14 (@schmem14)
I've gotten to know Em a bit recently and on top being an amazing fic writer, she's also just an overall wonderful person to interact with. She's constantly exploring, constantly trying new ships/genres/ideas. I love the creativity behind all of her stories. Some of my favorite fics are HP Kinkuary 2023 collection (seriously, it's so hotttt), How to Care for your Monster Book (Hagrid/Book of Monsters), and Lost at Sea (Harry/Ron).
Corvuscrowned (@corvuscrowned)
Gonna be honest, I read Crow's fics for the angst. They're just the right amount of tugging at your heartstrings but also being littered with sweet moments. I strive to get my angsty fics to the level that Crow has achieved. Not all of Crow's fics are angsty, but those are the ones I enjoy the most. Some of my favorite fics are An Emerald In The Sky (Drarry), Shades of Dawn (Lavender/Ginny), Loverboys (Drarry, not actually that angsty but very good nonetheless)
For the Fanfic Ask Game, send me a question!

written for @hp-fearfest day seven: there's something in the attic | T | No Warnings Apply | thank you, thank you thank you @m0srael for being my beta this month 💀
When they’d moved to the manor his husband had promised they wouldn’t stay. Just long enough for the archaic inheritance laws he was bound by to be satisfied, and they’d move somewhere new to them both. But now, the house didn’t want them to leave. He’d woken alone that morning. There was a pounding in his head, a whooshing at the base of his skull that only subsided as he approached the attic. He heard sobbing, and he rushed to throw open the door, springing back when it burned to the touch. Desperately, he tried the knob again. His husband screamed.

Day 23: EMD SDP40F
Info from Wikipedia:
The EMD SDP40F was a six-axle 3,000 hp (2.2 MW) C-C diesel–electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division (EMD) from 1973–1974. EMD built 150 for Amtrak, the operator of most intercity passenger trains in the United States. Amtrak, a private company but funded by the United States government, had begun operation in 1971 with a fleet of aging diesel locomotives inherited from various private railroads. The SDP40F was the first diesel locomotive built new for Amtrak and for a brief time they formed the backbone of the company's long-distance fleet.
A series of derailments in the mid-1970s shattered Amtrak's confidence in the locomotive, and many railroads banned it from their tracks. Multiple investigations pointed to issues with the locomotive's trucks, the weight of the water and steam generators used for train heating, or the harmonic vibration of baggage cars behind the locomotive. In 1977 Amtrak decided to move on from the SDP40F in favor of the EMD F40PH, which was already in use on short-distance routes. Amtrak traded most of its fleet into EMD; the components were incorporated into new F40PHs. The remainder were traded to the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) for use in freight service. The Santa Fe rebuilt the locomotives and designated them SDF40-2. The Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway (BNSF), successor to the Santa Fe, retired them in 2002. One of them is preserved.
Amtrak assumed operation of most intercity rail passenger service in the United States on May 1, 1971. Until then such services were operated by various private railroads. The private railroads chose to retain their second generation passenger locomotives for freight service, or to operate the various commuter services which, by law, did not pass to Amtrak. To operate these intercity services the Amtrak had to buy or lease from the private railroads whatever locomotives remained. This left Amtrak with an aging and mechanically-incompatible fleet of diesel locomotives. The mainstays of Amtrak's road diesel fleet were veteran E units and F units, which were 10–20 years old and due for replacement.
The SDP40F was a full-width cowl unit. It was based on the EMD FP45 passenger locomotive and EMD SD40-2 freight locomotive. All three shared the EMD 645E3 diesel prime mover, which developed 3,000 hp (2.2 MW). The locomotive had a gear ratio of 57:20. Maximum speed at full horsepower was 94 mph (151.3 km/h); the locomotive exceeded 100 miles per hour (160.9 km/h) in tests. There were doubts at the time about Amtrak's long-term viability, so the locomotives were designed for easy conversion to freight locomotives should Amtrak cease operation.
In the early 1970s Amtrak's passenger car fleet was steam-heated; Amtrak's requirement called for two steam generators. These were located at the rear of the locomotive. Forward of the generators was a 1,350-US-gallon (5,110.3 l; 1,124.1 imp gal) water tank. This tank rested above the floorline. The lateral motion of the water within was later implicated in several derailments. The primary underbody tank was split between water and diesel fuel, carrying 2,150 US gallons (8,138.6 l; 1,790.2 imp gal) of water and 2,500 US gallons (9,463.5 l; 2,081.7 imp gal) of diesel. Provision was made for eventual conversion to head-end power (HEP), but it was never carried out.
EMD based the SDP40F name on the existing SDP40. Several years earlier, EMD had made similar versions of the SDP45 and SD45 in a full-width cowl unit, which it named FP45 and F45. Although the SDP40F was externally nearly identical to the FP45, EMD chose not to give the new locomotive a similar name such as FP40. EMD wanted to avoid adding a new locomotive type to their catalog due to price controls in effect in the early 1970s. The following year, the F40C name was used for a similar locomotive ordered by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad (the "Milwaukee Road"), equipped with HEP instead of steam generators.
There were several minor differences between the first 40 locomotives built and later examples. The most important was the installation of lower-profile cooling fans and air horns to avoid clearance problems in the Eastern US. Amtrak ordered 150 SDP40Fs, in two batches. The first order, placed on November 2, 1972, was for 40 locomotives, at a cost of $18 million. A second order, for 110 locomotives at $50 million, followed on October 12, 1973. These orders were Amtrak's first for new-build locomotives.[18] Amtrak deployed the original 40 locomotives on long-distance trains in the Western United States. The locomotives entered revenue service on June 22, 1973, hauling the Super Chief from Chicago to Los Angeles over the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. SDP40Fs were also used on the Burlington Northern Railroad. The arrival of the second order enabled Amtrak to deploy the SDP40Fs throughout the country, displacing the inherited E-units.
In late 1975 J. David Ingles called the SDP40Fs the "stars of Amtrak's long-distance trains," but engine crews reported that the locomotives rode poorly compared to the E-units they had replaced. Even as Amtrak and EMD investigated the ride quality, the SDP40F was involved in a series of derailments that would lead to an end to its career as a passenger locomotive. Between 1974–1976 the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) identified thirteen incidents for which the locomotive was responsible. None of the incidents were serious, but their frequency was a concern. Most of the derailments occurred on trains with two SDP40Fs on the front and at least one trailing baggage car. While the rear truck of the second locomotive and the front truck of the baggage car were pinpointed as the source of the derailment, the actual cause of the derailments was unclear.
EMD, Amtrak, the Association of American Railroads (AAR), and the FRA tested the locomotive thoroughly, with suspicion falling on the "hollow bolster" truck design. In the end, the investigators theorized that the steam generators and water tank may have made the rear of the engine too heavy and created too much lateral motion. Later FRA investigations concluded that the actual culprit was the light weight of the baggage cars, which caused harmonic vibrations when placed directly behind the much heavier SDP40F. A contributing factor was the sometimes poor quality of track the locomotive operated over.
Amtrak took several corrective measures, including operating with a reduced speed on curves, emptying the smaller of the two water tanks to reduce lateral motion, and making various alterations to the trucks. The measures helped, but the trouble continued. Several railroads, including the Burlington and the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway (C&O), banned the "rail breakers" from their tracks (they were suspected or known to be causing the spreading of rails because of their lateral swaying, which may have contributed to the derailments)[citation needed]. For the Chicago–Seattle Empire Builder, the speed restrictions added 6 hours to what had been a 46-hour schedule. Another important development was the unusually harsh winter of 1976–1977, which sidelined many of Amtrak's aging steam-heated coaches. Amtrak suspended numerous routes and pressed the new HEP-equipped Amfleet I coaches, designed for short runs, into service. The new EMD F40PH, intended for short-distance service and equipped with HEP, handled these trains.
In the spring of 1977 Amtrak faced a power crisis. In addition to the SDP40Fs derailing, Amtrak was having trouble with two other six-axle designs. The GE E60CP and E60CH electric locomotives were having derailment problems. The GE P30CH had the same truck design as E60s and rode poorly, although it did not exhibit the same tendency to derail. Amtrak decided to abandon the SDP40F in favor of the F40PH, a four-axle design with none of the riding problems of the six-axle locomotives. Amtrak traded 40 SDP40Fs back to EMD. Components including the prime mover were installed into an F40PH's frame. Between 1977–1987 Amtrak traded 132 of the SDP40Fs back to EMD for F40PHRs. The SDP40F remained in service on the Santa Fe longer than elsewhere, although the arrival of HEP-equipped Superliner cars on the Western routes displaced them from there as well. The last SDP40Fs left the Amtrak roster in 1987. The remaining Amtrak SDP40F's that weren't sold to the ATSF (seen below) are presumed to have been scrapped.
In 1984 Amtrak, low on light-duty power, traded 18 SDP40Fs to the Santa Fe for 43 switchers: 25 CF7s and 18 SSB1200s. Santa Fe rebuilt the traded locomotives for freight use. Modifications included removing the steam generators and regearing for lower speed. The locomotives were also given front steps and platforms, and notched noses in order to improve boarding access. The rebuilt locomotives were designated SDF40-2. The SDF40-2s continued in service with the BNSF Railway, successor to the Santa Fe, until their retirement in 2002.
One SDF40-2, ex-Amtrak No. 644, was acquired by Dynamic Rail Preservation Inc. and is in Boulder City, Nevada having been previously displayed in Ogden, Utah. It has been renumbered to its Santa Fe-era 6976 number and returned to operation in November 2019.
