i wanted to do both but then i did the top 5 anime and i got very carried away with my explanations so i kept it as just that. anyway:

1. haikyuu!! probably my favorite show ever tbh. i think hq has a perfect story, like it uses its genre to do everything right, and its impact on the outside world is amazing as well. as for the series itself, it's just beautiful (ignoring that one episode in season 4) and has a very unique style, stellar voice acting, awesome soundtrack, delicious symbolism, and it really gets you hyped for volleyball :P it's very easy to get attached even to the most minor character bc the story is written in a way that lets almost everyone in this HUGE cast (well over a 100 or even 150 named characters, i'm pretty sure) shine, and you're guaranteed to find someone you like. the only downside is you'll probably end up rooting for every team so eventually a team you like will lose a game (likely to another team you like) and that hurts every time fr. and still!!!!! it manages to be so feel-good and optimistic and really gets you pumped and inspired!!!! i think anyone who is even just open to try sports anime should check it out, it's def one of the most accessible I've seen in that genre (in a sense that it doesn't expect you to already be familiar with the sport to understand the story)

2. honestly?? osomatsu-san. probably bc it's very dear to me like emotionally, season 2 was still releasing when i was stuck in the hospital for a few months, and it was like a light i held onto every week (i was also following a few mangas back then but those were harder to follow. due to oso-san's skit nature it was always a good time) and i mean, ichi was my first f/o before i even knew that term existed hehe. it's one of these shows i wouldn't actually recommend to anyone unless i know they're ok with gross or edgy humor but i do think it's really good, i love how meta it is, and i think it uses its premise to deliver maximum entertainment!

(oh my god that was so much gushing abt a silly skit show i am so sorry <- guy who wrote most of the hq gushing after typing this part up. he was not aware)

3. ok so this one's really niche, idk if any of you have even heard of it heh. it's called bungou stray dogs-

ajdkflhlh while i have my gripes with how they adapt the manga, i do still think it's a very good anime as is. it was good enough to get me hooked on the story and characters and want to learn more and follow the story further, yknow? it's beautiful and i love its use of colors for symbolism, it has really great voice acting, and the energy is kept up throughout it enough to remain engaging. it's honestly a show I'd recommend everyone to at least try 🤔!

4. persona 4!!!! from one mediocre adaptation to a GREAT adaptation. i think p4's anime is really really well made - it manages to translate a game this long into a coherent and interesting story, gives its characters time to shine, and maintains a perfect balance between fun and emotions. also it has probably the best dub I've ever heard. naoto's anime voice dni. also i think episode 26 is a true masterpiece i think everyone should watch it

5. ngl. it's a three way tie for me. between shows i only watched once and don't have a lot of attachment to beyond that, but i think they're really good for very different reasons. gekkan shoujo nozaki-kun / great pretender / blue period. i won't go into details on why i love them all bc this post is already long enough. but if you're reading this you should check them out 🫡

David Zaslav removes Shenmue & Blade Runner from anime streaming, cancels Shenmue season 2, continues to be a piece of shit

David Zaslav, the former head of Discovery who is now in charge of the merged Warner Bros. Discovery — and whom I’ve previously ranted about at length — is continuing to do his best to destroy art, make creators’ works inaccessible, end all joy and hope, and basically be a massive fucking sack of severed dicks. 

LET”S RUN DOWN ALL OF HIS CRIMES SO FAR!

Fuck this shitheel.

1) David Zaslav’s tenure at Discovery is widely despised by employees. He insisted on moving operations out of the former HQ in Silver Spring MD — which has been devastating to that town’s economy — to instead focus on LA and New York City, where he prefers to be. He started a big corporate budget centered on purchasing trendy clothing for the C-suite so that they can “look cool.” He’s laid off tons of staff. He has a reputation for being an authoritarian CEO who regularly makes unilateral decisions without bothering to value anyone else’s opinion.

2) Upon taking over Warner Bros Discovery, his first act was to demote or remove all female and black department heads at Warner Bros. He replaced them all with white men from Discovery. He said they needed to focus on “the best person for the job” instead of “forced diversity.” ........ Uh-HUH. Right. Sure.

3) He then shitcanned two movies that were already filmed and nearly complete (and which had already cost $130 million dollars in development/creation, which is now just being thrown in a TOILET) AND were already testing either “good” or “EXTREMELY good” in screenings because he personally didn’t like them (reminder: no one else’s opinion matters) and doesn’t believe movies should be made for streaming, which these were. He wants HBO Max to stop having its own content (and to heavily move towards hosting reality TV-based content like Discovery). This was also supposedly done to get a tax write-off of $10 million by not releasing these films, although every single tax lawyer and IRS agent who’s been interviewed agrees that doesn’t make one lick of sense. 

4) This was all part of his supposed effort to reduce the company’s budget by billions. To that same end, he ended countless deals that allowed HBO Max to host tons of shows, including original works that were exclusive to the service and now exist nowhere, in any form. This was done without warning in most cases. Just loads of movies and animated shows erased from existence because he didn’t want to pay the fraction-of-a-percent licensing fee. Many of the creators - writers, producers, directors, other talent - have been posting in tears to various social media, pleading for whatever copies people have made illegally or for Warner Discovery to provide them with SOME copy of their work, because otherwise IT’S ALL JUST. FUCKING. GONE.

And now, his latest shitty action...

5)  He stopped all funding to Adult Swim (Warner Bros. owns Cartoon Network and Adult Swim) for original anime productions, INCLUDING cutting off their licenses to continue hosting those productions online. This means that the English dubs of SHENMUE: The Animation and Blade Runner: Black Lotus no longer exist online (....legally). More importantly, apparently SHENMUE: The Animation performed well enough that they were intending to fund a second season based on Shenmue III... which is now not going to happen, because Zaslav has stripped away all that funding. 

This is exactly how I feel about David Zaslav. ... OK, not the part about his family dying.

God, and I love Shenmue and adored the anime adaption. I would’ve loved to see more of it. I would’ve loved to see so much of this content that is now gone some day. I heard such wonderful things about Infinity Train. Batgirl was looking killer and Brendan Fraser was particularly getting a lot of praise for how he played one of my favorite lesser-known Batman villains. And it’s all just... gone. People are losing their jobs, losing years of work, and millions of dollars being flushed away... just, what the FUCK.

An EVOLVING Duel! Stardust VS Red Daemon's | Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's OVA Uncut "Dub" (WIP #1)

Happy new year! Since it was just the Christmas/general holiday season here in the US, I figured I'd finally get around to throwing up a little preview of this thing I've slowly been working on. This is a very rough WIP, since I'm still working on compiling dialogue (which I've been doing through quite a lot of use of the UltimateVocalRemover AI tool to rip and isolate vocals from the dubbed episodes, and which I used for a near-perfect rip of the OVA's music and SFX which prompted this idea in the first place--started this while I was bored waiting for my last hard drive to eventually fail any file recovery efforts back in October, and had finally gotten UVR working on my newly-reinstalled-with-Windows laptop, so I thought "...what if I did a thing")--ergo, I haven't done any volume-mixing or SFX touch-ups yet. This has also involved a lot of browsing through the dubbed episodes on Crunchyroll, then grabbing the audio in HQ to then run through UVR, lol.

As of now, I've done up to this part here after Shield Wing's destroyed, using lines from the MC throughout the series for the beginning, and then assembling/stitching together what works for some move explanations or comments from Rua/Ruka/Aki in the stands, trying to stick to the original script as able (for example, Rua's line about Shield Wing's effect had to be stitched together, since annoyingly the only time someone non-Yusei describes it, it's Crow during the WRGP arc), though I'm still trying to find a line that works for Aki's "You're being pretty loud yourself, Ruka" line earlier (as she's complaining about Rua cheering loudly; I made Ruka say "It's not that big of a deal" so I need a similar response lol).

And for Rua and Ruka, I'm focusing exclusively on Eileen Stevens's performances for both as of episode 65 going into the WRGP arc and her Duel Links lines for them, as 1) there's more to work with there, but also 2) it's a smoother performance imo.

And some lines here could be subject to change if I find another one with a more fitting inflection or something. Also eventually want to do some on-screen text translations for things like the landmark pop-ups early on if I can--maybe even use English card proxies if able as I've seen some do, but we'll see, lol.

Anyway yeah, hope this sounds interesting! I'm slowly working on this as I prioritize finalizing my GX subs so this'll mostly be on the backburner, but wanted to throw this up as a rough preview of what it's looking like!

Notably, the series portrayed Buddha as female and Guanyin as male, and cast a female actress as Sanzang in order to communicate the character's great youth and beauty.

An enthusiastic English-language dub was broadcast on the BBC starting in 1979 with the new title Monkey, after the abridged English version of the original novel. This version (also commonly referred to as Monkey Magic after the show's title song) has since cemented itself as a cult classic, and was the introduction for many Westerners to both Buddhism and the sort of fantasy action sequences that the subsequent popularity of anime would later make common place.

The hero of the series, the irrepressible Monkey King and self declared Great Sage Equal To Heaven, here holding one of the many golden peaches he ate to gain immortality. Thanks to the inclusion of a number of Asian themed option in the HQ wardrobe, the outfit is pleasing close to his usual costume from the series.

Tripitaka (Tang Sanzang)

Although named Sanzang, the nominal main character of the novel is frequently better known as Tripitaka in the West based on this series. Both names (Chinese and Sanskrit respectively) are interchangeably used as an honorary title in Chinese Buddhism for a monk who has mastered the teachings of the titular "Triple Basket" of scriptures that comprise their traditional canon.

Tripitaka's look here is more vibe than match for what he wore in the series -- HF tends towards western fantasy in its selection of robe styles. Those pose isn't one of nervousness but the hand options make it the closest I could get to him using the Golden Headache Sutra that tightens Monkey's headband to force compliance from his most fractious protector.

Sandy (Sha Wujing)

Of the three disciples, I think I like Sandy the most. A former General of Heaven forcibly reincarnated as a cannibal water demon for breaking a tea pot, he's the most sincere in his conversion from monster to disciple. Honest and hard working, he's typically a voice of reason and generally the nicest of the lot.

In the show, he's been given something a kappa-ish aspect, with a tonsure-like baldspot beneath a skullcap he needs to keep moist. Nothing like either is an option in HF so he gets the receding hairline head tentacles which I think works well enough. The costume is a pretty close evocation of the one from the series otherwise, with an almost exact match for his signature weapon. The cephalopod crescent pupils are a stylistic choice on my half.

Pigsy (Zhu Bajie)

Although he a more rounded character in the novel, in the TV series after a while you're usually thinking "Ugh, what an arsehole!". He often gets himself and his companions into trouble through his laziness, gluttony, egotism, and propensity for lusting after pretty women.

The original actor was replaced because he accepted a movie role before the decision was made to go ahead with a 2nd season; this was lamp-shaded as a result of spiritual growth. Thus the 1st version has an orc face and one of the less aesthetically pleasing human ones for the 2nd.

Horse aka The White Dragon Horse (Yu Lung aka Bail Long Ma)
