it's funny that i find the way gale talks all grandiose and poetic to be so charming and adorable but when raphael shows up with his self-satisfied little rhymes i'm like man when will this guy shut tf up lol

i will say one of the most interesting (slight) cognitive dissonances i’ve come across in the more dark magic focused corner is

no man's land is barren and harsh and inhospitable just like the people that occupy it but vash understands it as the circumstances he and knives created when knives orchestrated the great fall a hundred years prior. knives understands human cruelty and selfishness to be inherent to human nature while vash understands it to be survival. people are kind people have the capacity to be kind even in a land that is actively hostile against life and cooperation but even a man that hates fighting will inevitably take up arms if he is threatened. if there is someone he needs to protect. anyway i think the setting of trigun is so well done and just overall a great backdrop to the anime/manga because of how survival informs every single character and their motivations. every character has been personally impacted by the lack of resources on no man's land (except maybe vash but he's the messiah anyway) and confronted with the reality of what survival entails: in many cases a gun. not only is the gun the hallmark the symbol of every western (such as the space western trigun is), ultimately, pulling the trigger is the decision between life or death, violence and pacifism, morality and immorality, and every character is beholden to that (yes even vash) 👍
