misc thoughts on the Darkest Hour finale

= that sucked. It sucked even more when you remember this is the finale and possibly the last time we'll see these characters/these versions of the characters and they barely get any noteworthy closure for what this event built up

= Like where. the fuck. was RITA. After everything with Mistress Vile, how she was basically the face of this event, she doesn't have any sort of role in the end? She doesn't escape the dumpster for the epic girlboss clapback against her abuser? Instead we bring back....Death Ranger for that? It's kind of hilarious how I was literally like "I guess Death Ranger could come back for the finale but that seems like a waste for a character like them" and guess what! It WAS a waste!

= I have no idea what JB was talking about in his thread. Nothing about this finale suggested a connection to the TV show universe; if anything, it more firmly established that the comics and show were in different continuities. If the idea is Billy will eventually succeed in resetting the Grid to the show status quo, it certainly didn't happen here. And anyway.......

= For some reason the franchise has really been committing to this idea of Billy fucking up and spending the rest of his life trying to bring things back to the former status quo which is so weird. Why is it always that and not a lesson about learning to live with your mistakes and moving forward. Especially in this situation, where theoretically fixing the Grid would undo the characters' lives that they'd lived for years at that point. Just completely pointless and cynical for no reason, not "sad" or "reflective"

= And yes there's no reset. Grace, Coinless Trini, and Kiya just get wiped from existence. The Grid shattering was pointless, except for I guess allowing the Rangers on Earth to morph without getting corrupted. Tigan also dies out of nowhere, so damn, the girls really got the short end of the stick here, didn't they

= AND MEANWHILE M*TT DIDN'T DIE. INSTEAD HE GOT TOMMY'S PLACE IN THE BIG GROUP MORPH. I HATE HIM. WHY DIDN'T HE DIE

= I was right that Vessel would purge Dark Specter and that would be the end of them both but still super underwhelming, made even worse by how Dark Specter was such a nothing, boring villain. God.

= fuck Hyperforce fuck their forced inclusion fuck how they just took time away from the actual characters that mattered to, you know, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. We never even got closure on that random plot thread about Chloe's mom, so what was the fucking point

= Also the Emissaries don't get followed up on, in case you were wondering. I guess we can assume Green and Black were cured from the infection as well but uhhhhhh I guess they're the only ones left now lol

= Nearly every. single. page. had some characters' romance baked into it and dear god man. I love romance! But that was just so much. We didn't need nearly every Ranger hooking up with someone and for that to be their primary relationship. I know getting Candice back was inevitable with how much Skull talked about her but who cares. When Phantom Ranger and Kendall hugged I was literally like MELISSA NO DON'T YOU DARE

= Speaking of which, I have no idea what they were trying to imply with the Rocky/Adam handhold. Frankly I refuse to give them credit for that when they spent the entire event sidelined with never a hint of romantic development. Maybe if they actually had a role in this event that showed them coming together as a romance? That would be great. But this was not it. It's like how they can't keep Yale's pronouns straight - I'm not giving them credit for representation if they don't commit. Especially when, as I said, literally every other romance this stupid event made up got a lot of explicitly romantic scenes

= Only upside to this is the Tomberly scenes were great and there was nothing saying they broke up. They stayed together and had this universe's Olivia equivalent and Kim beat Billy's ass for trying to erase that. The end!

Unity Trio in Vroid

I haven't done anything with Vroid in a while and I wanted to work with my Unity Trio more so I decided to create them in Vroid.

I recently created the series logo as well.

There were a few areas that I had to compensate for such as some areas lacking in crucial design but I also made some additions that may apply to the main designs. (I have been intending to slightly redesign them to fight my main style rather than the style of 'Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!')

I have some close up shots as well, just to better show their designs.

Since I felt that it was needed, I have now got some official height references for the trio.

In case you cannot read the text: Danny is around 154.8 cm/Around 5'1", Riya is around 152.5 cm/around 5' and Mich is around 158.3 cm/between 5'1"-5'2"

I might do more with these three in Vroid soon. Not sure what exactly, maybe have them answering questions about them to better explain their characters?

If I think of something, I'll do it.

Running through the city on patrol was one of his favorite parts of it. Running across rooftops with reckless abandon, flipping through the air only to land on his feet…

It brought back some pleasant memories of watching videos on parkour late at night, texting his friend and planning to meet up somewhere to try out what they had seen.

With various degrees of success.

In reality, Chiro hadn't been that good at it. He fell a lot, even wound up injured a few times bad enough to require a hospital visit…

Or three. He honestly lost count. Between him and his friend, they had about six hospital visits for these antics under their belts.

Now, he was actually learning how to do such feats safely, mostly using the training room's simulator programs and then applying it to patrol like he was now.

His stomach did somersaults while he flung himself across a gap between two buildings.

The monkeys were nearby, always ever watchful of their young leader - just in case.

Today in particular though, they noticed… something was off.

Chiro was keeping up like usual… but they caught a glimpse of another boy his age trying to catch up to him… and when Chiro noticed him, he only smirked and started doing more complex tricks, prompting the other young man to do the same.

"Who is that?" Otto asked.

"I don't know but he's picking up the pace." Sparx answered.

The boy was an inch or two taller than Chiro with dark skin and wild deep blue hair. His eyes, an unnatural shade of violet that gleamed with mischief.

"Hey, Ichi!" The boy called, with a laugh. "You know, you can't outrun me forever!"

Chiro growled.

"I told you once, I told you a thousand times, stop calling me that! Only Mila's allowed to!"

"Kid, you know that guy?" Sparx remarked, looking back at him.

"Unfortunately." Chiro deadpanned before he laughed. "It's a story I'll tell… if he can catch up!"

Antauri stopped short, signaling the others to do the same.

"Pardon?" He raised an eyebrow.

Chiro stopped short before he noticed the boy catching up and made a break for it, shimmying up onto an air conditioning unit.

"Come on! You don't see me for awhile and NOW you can't catch up? For shame, Pizza Boy!"

Colors are damn near identical (Hershel and Chiro are associated with orange, though Chiro in his casual clothing is more red and blue with some orange + Hyperforce mode being white and orange while Hershel is black/dark brown and orange; Luke is blue but it's close to purple, a color more associated with Antauri even if his design in the second half of SRMTHFG includes blue)

Similar dynamics overall

*depends on if you ship LayLuke with Luke being an adult (such as in the anime), in which case that guilty aspect might not be there. Same with Chitauri on if you ship it when Chiro's an adult (though we've never seen an adult design for him, so that's up to the fans there)

**depends on how old Luke would be at that point. 14 and onwards there won't be much of a height difference like when he's 10-13 years old

Differences:

Chitauri would count as an interspecies relationship (unless you turn Chiro into a monkey or Antauri into a human) while with LayLuke, they're both humans and the same species

There's an extra layer of angst to LayLuke in comparison to Chitauri (Hershel having lost people before and thus being more closed off while Antauri hasn't lost people like that, only losing a previous leader to the hands of evil)

Hershel has known Luke for longer than Antauri has known Chiro. Hershel has seen Luke as a baby and known him since Luke was 10, Antauri has known Chiro since he was 13

Can you see why I instantly gravitated to LayLuke when I was getting into the series lol, I just haven't drawn or translated and published some fics yet

As far as Avery's relationships with the rest of the hyperforce go-

He and Antauri are surprisingly close. Not best friends per se, but they understand each other very well and have a borderline sibling-like relationship. Avery can read Antauri like a book and often cuts through his cryptic speech to get to the point in spite of how annoying Antauri finds that.

Otto and Avery get along like a house on fire. They're always building crazy stuff while their boyfriends do damage control. They also usually team up to joint bother their respective boyfriends.

Nova and Avery don't share many interests but they do like hanging out together, especially hanging out with Jinmay. Nova's mostly glad someone's keeping Gibson occupied so he and Sparx stop bickering.

Avery does not get along well with Sparx. He can be somewhat protective of Gibson and doesn't appreciate Sparx's comments in spite of Gibson reassuring him that this is normal for them and he gets Sparx back just as much. He doesn't hate the guy, but if they're alone together he's certainly not initiating conversation.

He is Chiro's cool uncle. Always gets him the best presents. Lets him drink pop and stay up late watching scary movies whenever the monkey team is out. Avery definitely gives Chiro Advice but it's quality is debatable at best.

When the team left to fight the Dark One Worm, Avery was left behind for his own safety and to support Jinmay as a protector. As such the two became close and he definitely sees her as family. Avery cares a lot about her and regularly gives her upgrades to better defend herself in case of emergency. He's a little paranoid about her safety.

At this point I would have rather like…the Hyperforce Team except Chloe and Jack be captured by dark specter. And I’ve waited for ages for them to have a story but the other four simply don’t add anything to the story if they have to be shoved into this thing

Besides the others not having anything to do it's also a little annoying that they're the only major team to not have lost anyone in their ranks in the name of upping the stakes at this point. Kendall and Taylor lost their entire teams, the Drakkon Rangers lost Slayer, and the MMPRs lost Rocky, Adam, and technically Tommy (and will probably lose Kim soon. I refuse to believe that's not what they're building towards, especially with the Kim/Spa'ark scenes in this latest issue.) If the Hyperforce team doesn't lose A SINGLE member in this event, then I'm sorry, it's hard to think of any reason for that except author favoritism lol. Again, this might not be the case, but it's frustrating to sit through. (Also a future solicit says Billy will be working with Hyperforce to fix the Master Arch, so I'm not very hopeful.)

Personally I would have scrapped the random Wild Force inclusion (like.....what is TAYLOR'S purpose for being here?? At least Kendall gets the smart-guy exposition) and just had the Death Ranger attack and possess some of the Hyperforce team at the end of their book

i know this isnt the most profound, expertly edited thing ever, but i wanted to make something for power rangers' thirtieth anniversary, because this show means so much to me, so, i tried to make something emotional for it, showcasing all of the endings or at the very least heartfelt moments from each season, followed by quick flashes of every team morphing (so yes, flashing lights warning)

(elephant in the room: there's no turbo or ninja steel representation in terms of the endings i included, in the former's case, it ended on a cliffhanger that led right into in space, so i just included part of in space's ending instead, and for the latter, i couldn't find a clip of ninja steel's ending that wasn't just the entire final episode

hyperforce wasn't included because i genuinely forgot but know that i do respect it as a part of power rangers' history, and the 2017 movie wasn't included because i was pretty much only thinking of the shows while making this, so it hadn't crossed my mind to include it, but i *do* like the movie)

here's to thirty more morphenomenal years :)

Third character profile for my Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! series 'Hunted Butterfly'.

This is Salem. Like Chrome, he is one of the monkeys created after the Hyperforce team as a form of counter team against them for the Dark Ones however the Alchemist sent him with his other creator Dr Iwasaki to protect him. While he and Chrome are fully aware of their past (Albiet Chrome only has lingering memories and was told the information by Professor Dominic), Salem himself knows everything including the previous monkeys before them. This is due to him convincing the Alchemist to let him remember in case the Hyperforce and the monkeys created after them meet by chance as he believes that someone should know the full truth to explain things better, the Alchemist was reluctant but agreed to let him remember everything. Salem would not admit it but he feels a lot of pressure and guilt from this as he knows he should reveal information to the Hyperforce team but he's not sure on how they would potentially react. From the Dark Ones prompting, he is actually a hybrid of a robot monkey and spider. He claims he's a demon because of how drasticly different his powers and abilities were, in present day he's relatively at peace with this information as he has full control of all aspects about himself but in the past he was very afraid and feared his cannibalistic side will take hold. He still somewhat has this fear.

Salem lives a relatively normal life; Working with the mining, working with the preservation of a spider species on his home planet and helping old friends. He is old friends with Chrome and they talk often. In fact, his heroic deeds got him knighted by the royal family which gains him his title of 'Lord' although technically these days his rank is almost equal to royalty but he goes by 'Lord' for simplicity. He is feared and respected because he has such a high rank yet he is clever with how he uses it and never abuses it unless necessary. In the recent events of the series, he's a godfather to his old friends' son and loves him like his own which he is open about it in comparison to Chrome's relationship with his goddaughter as Chrome is naturally reserved in comparison to Salem. He has gained a new fear of cave in accidents due to an event that caused a lot of heartache which will be revealed in the story. While the Hyperforce were surprised by him, they were quick to accept him as one of them and his knowledge of Dark Ones has been beneficial but he will not share where he got this knowledge from. It is later revealed that he and Gibson are biological brothers, that fact is still being processed by Gibson due to his shock but is not ultimately upset.

Salem is probably one the more unique characters I have created, he's a hybrid of a monkey, demon and spider (Even though I have a fear of spiders). The general premise of his abilities and design were inspired by a range of influences; The general idea of Spiderman while the markings are a reference to male Black Widow spiders and his extra fur being a reference to Cobalt Blue Tarantulas. I was really trying to create a design that could be trustworthy and soft while being dangerous and intimidating to better explain his character.

I was inspired by @scyrel's SRMTHFG character Razor because I really liked his premise of the demon side. Funny enough, I feel that Salem would handle Razor's personality well and just let him rant since Salem is usually careful in his words so he's less likely to trigger Razor's aggression. But I may be wrong...

In the series, there will be flashbacks to better explain his story and the events of the story that will shape his character.

I will reveal more about him at a later date.

Y'know what I don't like about dubs, at least in my experience? The fact that they can be difficult to find due to either having the same name as the original (Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! and Hero: 108 being supposedly the same title wise in Swedish like they are in English), hence unable to find the Swedish dubs or information about them, or they're possibly lost no matter how you look them up without like possibly special means of doing so that you don't know if they exist.

Using streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ could help, but in cases like Super Robot Monkey Team, they're not available for whatever reason. Maybe subs are, but the question would then be if the names are accurate like are they unchanged or did they not bother changing their names in the subs and their names are changed in the dub itself. That's also if they're not unnecessarily changed (e.g. Amphibia's Sasha and Marcy being changed to Sara and Molly respectively for the Swedish dub which I know for Sweden that if it sounds like a name or is an actual name changes aren't really... Needed? So huh???) or even have subtitles for that dub to help make sure a learner is understanding it right.

Considering I tend to translate my fics into Swedish, it's... Annoying when you don't know if what you're doing is accurate because you don't have that info readily available for everything you make fan content on
