thoughts on raw diets for cats and dogs?
It’s one of those things that if you want to do it, you must be knowledgeable and able to do it properly otherwise the animals will miss out on a fair few important nutrients and may be at risk of illness or injury. I’m not too familiar with the finer details on how to do it, so unfortunately I can’t offer too much.
I do know though, for example, that just feeding muscle meat will deprive the animal of many vitamins and minerals such as vitamin A and calcium. Feeding too much organ meat such as liver can induce hypervitaminosis A. Feeding bones can lead to tooth fractures, mouth injuries, obstruction, and constipation. Feeding raw in general puts the animals at risk of contracting food-borne pathogens that processing or heating the food would inactivate. 
It is, like any specific diet for companion animals, a topic worthy of thorough investigation, research, and discussions with a competent and nutrition-conscious veterinarian. It is one that has to be done right, otherwise the animal will come to harm. It’s not as simple as just throwing a steak down for fluffy to chew, it requires deliberate consideration and thoughtful planning.

So, my friend told me vitamin gummies are basically a scam because we pee out the vitamins the next morning; I've heard this said before but is this true? Is it just better to stick with vitamin pills instead? Thanks for your time!!
The issue isn’t pill vs gummi, the issue is which vitamin you’re getting and how much.
Different vitamins have different chemical characteristics, including whether they’re soluble in fat, or in water. Water soluble ones (like Vit C) are indeed those that your body can get rid off via the kidneys, so once you’ve given your body enough of it, the rest just gets excreted.
Fatsoluble ones are a different story. As they don’t solve in water, you can’t just kick the excess to the curb via kidneys, since unless something is quite wrong, you won’t be peeing fat. That means that those vitamins are likely to get stuck in your fatty tissues (fat, liver, nerves). That is normally not an issue, however if you overdose on them, you can in fact reach toxic levels. This is called a hypervitaminosis and the usual culprits are vitamins A and D, neither of which leads to pretty results, which is why there’s stuff like ‘Recommended daily dose’ and ‘tolerable upper intake’.

What Is Vitamin A
Vitamin A is called retinoids – a group of substances consisting of retinol, retinal and retinoic acid. The Most Common Symptoms Of Vitamin A Deficiency Include :

Excess Vitamin A

FDA Indications/Dosages:
For the treatment of refractory rickets, also known as vitamin D resistant rickets: 12,000-500,000 IU/day

Non-FDA Indications/Dosages:

Pharmacology/Pharmacokinetics: Ultraviolet light converts 7-dehydrocholesterol in the skin to cholecalciferol (vitamin D3). Both cholecalciferol and ergocalciferol (vitamin D2) are converted in the liver to 25-hydroxyvitamin D forms and then in the kidney to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D forms. Vitamin D (D2 or D3) is essential for the proper regulation of calcium in plasma and the activity of parathyroid hormone. Vitamin D is involved in the absorption of calcium and phosphorous from the small intestine thereby providing the necessary levels of calcium and phosphate in the plasma to promote bone mineralization.
