And Victor knows it's how it's supposed to be, even if it comes to him with age. He wants Jayce to save him, even once. And so he keeps trying new runes. Because he trusts Jayce. Because he knows he can do it. Because he knows he loves him.

The more I think about this Dungeon Meshi collab the more I wonder who actually wrote it. Even setting aside the glaring plot holes (the party eating unambiguously lethal food and walking it off), it really doesn't feel like AK's usual writing style to me.

AK likes to give scale to its world by talking about the time and effort to travel around, but the collab hops across the entire world and seemingly teleports the characters in to their next scene.

Previous collabs have focused on how the characters learn and adjust to the differences in the new world, but the party automatically knows what a truck is. Yet they still call tech "magic items" after travelling through several countries.

AK skips over action writing but likes to explain the material details of things. The collab spends a long time on Marcille's flashlight shenanigans without giving much sense that what's she's holding is indeed a flashlight, or why things go wrong in the way they do.

Kal'tsit is known for endless patience and endless monologues. When Laios starts asking weird questions, she goes silent and sets Mon3tr on him.

There are various lore oddities and inconsistencies too, like Originium slugs having dangerous innards but safe shells, or the whole deal with the Sal Viento cultist. Overall, this collab feels like it was written by someone other than the usual writers, who was getting their AK info second-hand. The writing focus is on skit scenes, with little concern for their requirements or consequences. (Not to say that AK's writing is perfect, but when it gets things wrong it does it in a different way.)

A lot of this mismatch is weird, because Dungeon Meshi is also a series that's interested in lore, logistics and characterisation! If Hypergryph wrote the collab, you'd expect them to try to emphasise the common ground they have. Is it a known thing for rights-holders to parachute in their own writers for collabs to protect lore/characterisation? Judging by the content, I could believe that this was largely authored by a publisher hire interested in promoting the anime.

True, but… [spoilers]

Very cleverly, both monster attacks happen outside of Rambley’s camera vision.

I’m assuming there are two networks of surveillance cameras, one for areas park attendees have access to that the Rambley tour guide program can access and a second set for staff-only surveillance.

Theoretically, this could have been as innocent as to not overwhelm the tour guide program by reducing the amount of audio and visual data it needed to consider.

On the other hand, there may have been a reason half the park’s surveillance was - black boxed.

Potentially, there used to just be one system, and the back rooms area cameras were destroyed by their respective - inhabitants.

Whatever reason, before Ed the pc meets Lloyd, Rambley tells Ed that Rambley can’t see backstage.

Since Ed never told Rambley about the giant lion he’d been stalked by while fetching the key…

Well, until Rambley actually saw Molly chasing Ed, if he’s telling the truth he legitimately didn’t even know the other mascots had become dangerous.

If Rambley is indeed cut out of the loop, as far as he knew the park was exactly as dangerous as it appeared at the beginning, run down and abandoned, but with several attraction still useable for his fun new friend to experience!

And yes, Rambley explaining “It’s been almost a decade, stuff’s worse than I let on” immediately after the player’s had an intense near-death chance is heaps of dramatic irony.

But again, an innocent Rambley has no idea how long Molly has been chasing Ed.

Indeed, he’d have just realized the danger himself two minutes before his little speech - it could be interpreted as him processing out loud how bad the situation actually is.

Which would be way above anything he would have been programmed to understand.

Anyway, tl;dr:

This bit was hilarious, gotta love dramatic irony. On the other hand, like all the writing in the game it’s exceptionally reasonable in-universe, not requiring the suspension of disbelief so necessary in most other mascot horror games.

The spot saying "hypothesis: I am going to put my head in that hole" is such an underrated line because while that is just not at all a hypothesis, it is pretty much exactly the kind of shit an actual scientist would bs instead of making an actual hypothesis. If fuck around, then find out

Two more potential headcanons based off of existing speculation re: The Clones.

First, the clones are almost certainly physically stunted. It could be a case of “Royal Jelly,” where the addition of a specific non-vital nutrient may trigger a development into a new stage, metamorphosing a juvenile clone into a “Prime-type.” Alternatively, the clones are dosed with growth inhibitors in their “nutrient-rich amniotic fluid” rations.

Either way, Hordak may have been having better nutrition on Etheria, enabling a brief period of growth before his defect caused severe physical damage.

My favorite, of course, is the culling theory.

This idea hypothesizes that clones continually grow through their lifespan, or at the least are decanted before “fully” mature.

Any clone that fails to die gloriously in battle in service of Horde Prime before a certain length of time is recalled to… be recycled for the glory of the many.

(yummy nutrient-rich soylent amniotic fluid…)

The reason Hordak is taller than the other clones we see is he’s 3x older than them, having spent ~30 years on Etheria.
