Guy likes interrupting Honey’s streams unprompted. He loves seeing the smile on their face. The gentle one that they wear while doing what they love. It makes him want to smother them in kisses.

Sometimes when he does this, he forgets about the mask and glasses. There have been plenty of times where he’s nearly accidentally exposed his face to the world, and it gives his honey a mini heart attack each time.

Honey made the executive decision to rearrange their setup so that the door was no longer in view. That way, Guy could spontaneously enter as much as he pleased.

Honey was still streaming when Guy returned home from work. They had told him in advance that this stream would be dragging on a bit longer than normal.

Honey looked up as they heard the door click open. Guy entered, waving a paper bag around.

“Honeeeey,” he sang, “I’ve brought you somethiiiiing.”

Honey eyed the bag skeptically as Guy drew closer, “should I be worried?”

“Wha-? Motive!? Why do you think I would have a motive?”

Honey raised an eyebrow at their boyfriend and smirked.

Immensely offended, Guy scoffed, “what, am I not allowed to bring the most important person in my life a treat? Purely out of my own volition and the kindness of my heart?”

“I was joking before, but now I’m actually suspicious...”

“Just take the donuts, Honey,” Guy softly spoke with a warm smile, holding out the bag and leaning forward.

When Honey’s hand brushed against his own, Guy leaned closer, his other hand cupping the back of their neck. He held the bag up to hide his face from viewers as he placed a gentle kiss on his partners cheek.

Honey, growing ever more flustered, let out a nervous chuckle as they pushed Guy away and accepted the gifts.

Finally, finally, Honey returned and placed Guy's character on the bed. He sprang up immediately.

Guy's cheerful voice started up, "yayyy, thank you Hone-" and was cut off with a yelp.

The shark had glitched through the bottom of the raft and attack Guy. It scared him half to death, but Honey?

Honey was laughing hysterically.

And it was music to Guy's ears.

Gasping for breath, they kept trying to say something, but continuously fell into a fit of giggles.

Guy was barely able to form his own words without laughing, trying to feign offense at his honey's joy in seeing him hurt. But hearing them laugh so heartily? He couldn't help but melt.

And he didn't want to just hear it, he wanted to see it.

"I'm coming to get you, Honey!" He announced, just before darting towards their room.

"No, no no!" They tried to object, but it was too late as Guy came bursting in.

They were in his arms and on the floor in an instant, tears streaming down their face as they tried to breathe.

Their face hurt from smiling, and they tried to calm down, but as soon as their breathing slowed Guy started to tickle them.

"Guy-! No!! Stop it!" They squealed and squirmed, but to no avail. Their previous laughing fit left them exhausted.

oh my god. the jump in quality from the digital ticket to the actual edited version is INCREDIBLE. fucking LOVED the details of costumes, the set, the lighting, the writing on the panels... everything was fantastic! starkid has come such a long way and it was incredible to see the seats filled for the show in the edited version!!!

one thing i really miss about these new starkid recordings is that we don't get the stage bows :( i would have absolutely loved if they did something akin to TGWDLM in black friday and NPMD, where the credits roll over the footage of the cast bowing and the claps! the bows at the end of a show are always so fun, it's a great moment of catharsis for everyone and seeing the cast smiling and happy is something i missed here. ESPECIALLY WITH THE ENERGY IN THE HOMECOMING DANCE

I've finished ME2 and I am 100% not booting up ME3 if there's snowball's chance in hell that the LE version of your mod is dropping any time soon.

*sings* you're not our bitch and you're not a machine * I'm a fic writer, I expect nothing. And I know this stuff takes forever and I 1000% expect the answer to be 'no' but the only thing I am inquiring is whether there is an updated ETA for your mod. OR if you have need for a legendary edition beta tester. OR if I can send you cash money to help offset the time being spent on a labor of love. OR if I should say -f- it and get my hands on the original edition of ME3 so the hatboy mod you've already (gloriously) provided us, works.

Also thank you for giving me hope that I will get to play a Shoker option, which makes the most sense thematically and narratively and I am aghast at what bioware chose to do with Joker (and EDI, wtf). You're doing god's work.

Just this week, I got some of the updated synths I've been waiting for, but I'm still waiting on BroShep.

I am still working on HBLE, don't you worry! In between writing fic myself, doing a painting, and a playthrough of ME3 to refamiliarise myself with its pacing, I have been going in and putting some necessary setup stuff in place, which is all very boring and un-exciting and not really showcase-able. Big chunks of the structure have been built, but most of the audio work has to be done, still.

In the OT, a lot of work had been done before I had the ability to read a line to the synth myself and have it transpose the voice directly, which noticeably improves delivery. So much so that it is difficult to use a lot of the previous edition's takes. This has the knock-on effect of the line needing to be re-animated because, of course, the timings of everything are now different with the new audio. There are very few lines whose takes will not be re-done.

Fortunately, however, I have my lipsync automation tools, and I'm much better at animating now than when I started. So it takes a lot less time this go-around... but still time!

Sadly and wonderfully, this is a massive mod and is much more than just a straight port. If it was a straight port, it'd have been done already. I would apologise for that, but I like to think the end result will be worth it, haha!

I am adding new content this time, including an entire conversation about his sister that you can unlock by completing some vanilla dialogues.

I am so glad that you've been enjoying your time with Mass Effect and that my mod is on your list of things to do. In what I am sure is the most shocking statement of the century, I agree that Joker is the most thematically satisfying romance for Shepard. I can't wait to get it to you! I promise, I am doing my best and there's nobody who wants it in your hands more than me.

Regarding testing, it's not quite in a state where it can be tested just yet. A few conversations work (first convo, EDI body convo, EDI discussion, some ambients) but nothing else yet.

Future Leonardo scolding these teens before he dips lol

No but honestly, his conversation with the teens was so much easier to write than Leo’s conversation with the future brothers. Leonardo has grown from the teen Leo is, and in turn his confidence has grown with him. Although he still has work to do on his self, he has matured to recognize that the past wasn’t as great as it could have been. He realized where his insecurity came and how it encouraged Donnie and Mikey and Raph to think so shallowly about the leadership change.

Mikey sending Leonardo home was such a fun idea to me! Seeing the stress Leonardo was under and so desperate to go home, Mikey knew he had to send Leonardo back as soon as possible, even if he couldn’t do it well enough. Luckily, Leonardo knows his brothers and was able to help Mikey. :)

To quote Mikey, “Man the future’s harsh!”

I feel bad for Leo and I think he retaliated because writing his POV was difficult. I had to change the dialogue plenty of times because it started slipping out of character to another’s. But the horrors Leo was facing is so intense, and it’ll get a bit crazier in the next chapter. Hold on tight Leo!

The flashback moments! Poor lil Leo! He’s realizing how bad it became in the future, and why the future brothers kept trying to talk without Leo listening. Although, I don’t think I mentioned that the yokai that turned to ashes was a snake? Anyways, lil guy is traumatized!

And yes! Depending on how the writing goes for ch.4, it should be the last! It’ll definitely be intense because we’re diving back where we left off on Leo’s POV! And it’ll definitely be exciting seeing Leonardo’s return to the future!

The care taken into crafting the story, to give the readers an entire movie with just words— it's amazing! Seriously, I could vividly see everything! mikey knows he's in love with her, kakucho admits that he feels something for her (he's probably the only one to admit to himself that it's certainly not a healthy kinda feelings, but feelings all the same) sanzu and the twins definitely have an obsession, and there's a fondness there, but i wouldn't go so far as to call it 'love'.

whoa okay but choking and slapping? Now that’s terrifying for reader...I would have thought kaku might be a little better than the rest since he seems more calm and kinda looks out for reader? Also, I cannot imagine how terrifying sanzu’s bad day will be for reader since he’s already unstable

as i said kaku's fine on a good day, but not every day is a good day. he carries a lot of issues and guilt and maybe has slight abandonment issues (people he love tend to be taken from him) that make him a little possessive and rough at times.

sanzu's bad days mean the reader watching people die in awful ways before getting brutally fucked in/around/near their blood/bodies so yeah... not fun.

I honestly just wanted to say how I absolutely love ur work- I CANT EVEN FIND WORDS TO EXPRESS IMY LOVE FOR IT PROPERLY- BUT I'LL TRY MY BESTT-😭😭

At first I was just going thru the black butler fandom tags to find a good fanfic, when I stumbled upon ur work. At first glance it was intimidating to jump into a whole new famfic with multiple chapters, but honestly I'm *SOO* glad I did!

I haven't been caught up with any new chapters since I've last read it but, nonetheless all I can say is that ur work/writing is a whole *experience*🤌✨. And I mean it in every sense. Even tho it's been well over a month or so since I've read it I can still remember the scenes that play out; coupled with your beautiful writing that genuinely makes it seem like I'm transported into ur story ur telling. All the feels, the scenarios are still stuck in my mind when I think back to your work and honestly I don't think I'll ever find anything else which could even come close to replicating what I felt when I read ur work.

I cannot ever find the exact words or thank you enough for how you've been able to help me find an escapism in ur heavenly writing that should really be called an art form. (Srsly I'm not even joking-). And I definitelyy plan to re-read all ur chapters from start to finish during my holidays.

I honestly really reallyyy admire how ur able to articulate things so well with ur words. Once I started reading, I was sucked in and I couldn't stop reading, to the point that I think I just binge read ur chapters in one day. Let me just say, oh my god!!

I literally almost cried the first time I read this. I can’t believe you would take the time to sit down and write me such a kind message. I’m so touched that I’m struggling to convey how grateful I am, like I can’t believe you like it so much and I’m absolutely over the moon that you do. I really can’t thank you enough for this ask. All of it. Every syllable, letter, and emoji, lol.

I’m also going to be real: you sent this at the perfect time because I’ve been really struggling with motivation to work on the next chapter. I’ve felt both uninspired and overwhelmed as a first-year in college atm. (Especially because it’s midterm season, gross.) This kind of message was exactly what I needed to help me feel like my work is really there for people, and it’s the quality that I work so hard to make it. I feel much more inspired to pick up my fic outline and my chapter 17 Google Doc and actually get to work. I’ve been putting it off because I hate forcing myself to write— it never comes out good.

But this was exactly what I needed to feel refreshed and ready to start tackling the problems/roadblocks that I’ve run into while I (more intricately) plan out the last 2 chapters in this fic. Who knew, it’s actually pretty tough to wrap up a story!

It means so much that this storyline and its characters are resonating with you, too! I love that TIP is a story that youn can think about when you need a little bit of escapism. That’s literally me, like all the time— that’s where a lot of the ideas for this story came from!!

I’m really so choked up over your whole message, before I sat down to write this message, I came back to re-read it easily five times before I thought I could properly write about the happy tap-dance my heart does when I read it. can you tell us abt how pecus and propin met? i’ve been reading through ur parousia tag and i am in love w the lore it’s all so cool

ya im glad u like it ^_^!! and sure this is a bit long even tho i reduced it a lot but lore below, also slight tw for homophobia in this !

propin has had many lovers as i said before, majority of them being mortals, and often when she’s among mortals she does not reveal that she is a god because she doesn’t like the worship, and prefers to be equals to everyone she meets

usually when propin gains a partner she fully intends to stick by then until she or they die, (and in many cases it’s usually propin that dies either attempting to protect them or from heart break when they hurt her in some way) in the world of parousia things like transphobia and homophobia exist, while parousia is intended to be fantasy i still want these elements in the story especially considering how gender plays a massive role in how the gods work

anyways! while propin is genderless she often calls herself a woman and does so most of the time regardless of her reincarnations physical traits bc gods experience gender differently

while all gods know of each other (only being able to recall name) when they reincarnate on parousia mountain they usually don’t actually meet one another as they all descend the mountain to do whatever it is they want, and because paxion is so big most gods only meet another god two or three times during each life they live, because of this every time propin reincarnated she never got to meet pecus, and the mountain top was empty except for perodi lingering around in the forest or watching from afar

anywaysss gonna condense this bc most of parousia lore is actual religion that i’ve written diwn with folk lore but some of that lore is unneeded for the gist of it all

propin while traveling the land meets 23 year old lilith, a rancher who is a closeted lesbian in a small moor town with open land surrounded by a thicker forest

lilith offers propin a place to stay in her grandfathers cabin (her mother passed during childbirth and her father fled when he found out liliths mom was pregant) as propin couldn’t afford to buy a room at the local inn (propin does not like carrying materialistic things like money) and propin accepts this offer so long as she can help with field work or whatever other chores can be done around the house so she wouldn’t be a free loader, she helps spin wool and shave the sheep on their ranch as well as feeding etc

liliths grandfather despises propin, he doesn’t like how happy she is, he doesn’t like that she’s staying at what is essentially the house he built and he doesn’t like that propin is so touchy with his grand daughter, that and propin encourages lilith to follow her dream of being a florist, a job only suited for the richest in the land, someone to cater fancy events with arrangements, and something liliths grandfather thought was pointless to go after

over a few weeks of bonding and sharing lilith room propin and lilith fall in love but lilith has to be secretive and propin doesn’t understand why, for gods gender and sexuality don’t matter, it is the mortals who came up with rules against two people of the same gender being together

yadda yadda angst skipping more lore yadda yadda a harvest festival is being held in town and lilith, her grandfather, and propin are settings up a small booth / stall with blankets and clothing to be sold during the festival, grandfather sits in the front alone, and propin and lilith end up dancing together in the back of their stall, but aren’t paying attention as propin dances with her into the lantern light of the town square, they end up kissing and townsfolk see and liliths grandfather rips them away from one another, propin relying on her cane because of being blind hits the ground and lilith can’t help her up

a small crowd forms as liliths grandfather shouts about his suspicions of propin being some kind of temptress trying to lead lilith away from pre (pre being the mother of all gods, and in this story would be a stand in for jesus) despite pre not having any written text or rules many mortals took it upon themselves to ascribe what they think pre would want, and homophobia happens to be something they considered pre would like

propin is unable to help lilith as she’s beaten for “indulging in sins” and lilith unfortunately passes away from the mob

gods are able to physically feel when a soul is leaving someone’s body and going back to pre, and propin, in a daze on the ground feels it happening and immediately goes into a rage, not understanding what sin lilith commited, not understanding why anyone was angry, and not understanding why lilith had to die for simply being happy

propin doesn’t like hurting people and has a hard time raising her voice, she has always been an extreme people pleaser as the goddess of love, and believes that most conflict can be solved with empathy and talking things out, however when propin snaps she is unable to control herself, and as one of the strongest gods when she decides to become violent, their is nothing to stop her until she is finished

she burst into flames and attacked everyone in the town, burning down homes and incinerating people, while doing this she accidentally started a forest fire and many of the towns cattle and other farm animals died, as well as local wild life, during her rage she grabs liliths grandfathers charred corpse by the neck and burns him until the head falls off (this is important to note because of how important decapitation is in parousias lore)

pecus (god of animals) who happened to be passing through the the time caught a glimpse of the fire and began approaching it to help any animals he could get away to safety thinking it’s an ordinary forest fire, when he stops dead in his tracks at the sight of a naked woman aflame

propin is standing in rubble and ash and covered in dirt in the middle of the town, everyone who lived there had died, every item for the festival all the blankets and food and art and pottery was reduced to embers

pecus had never seen this god before, and while most gods were known to mess with mortals for fun he had never heard of one doing something this violent, not even the goddess of war had created this much calamity, but he had stayed just to see what else they’d do, pecus then realized that person he was staring at was “propin” and he was certain she was the goddess of love, but why would the god of love do something like this?

suddenly propin dropped to her knees, her hair falling back down to her shoulders, no longer in flames, and she began crying, which is even weirder for gods, most being narcissistic and and having low empathy, crying after doing something like this on purpose was unheard of

pecus cautiously approached her and nudged her side but she was too distraught to realize he was another god and thought it was just a wild animal next to her, she began ranting and crying to him of how horrible she felt, how terrible of a person she was to do this, how she didn’t understand what happened and that she missed lilith and had she known she would’ve ran away with her from the start etc etc, propin in the state she was currently in was very close to dying from heart break

and pecus, after taking a moment to look at the ruined town again looked at her asked where liliths body was, propin, being slightly shocked realizing the animal next to her was a god went silent

pecus asked again but propin didn’t answer, and then asked her would she like to have a funeral but she didn’t know what that was

usually when gods die theirs no need for burial they reincarnate in seconds so none of them cared what happens to the body after, but with mortals they had rituals dedicated to sending off their loved ones, and propin was moved by the idea, and the little shred of love from the concept of a funeral kept her from passing away, together they worked through the night to turn the remaining wood and stone of the town into a burial site, dedicated to lilith

they covered it with flowers and carved different fauna into the wood and stone, propin cried the entire time, and would stop momentarily to rant and cry more, to which pecus would quietly listen to her

yadda yadda they leave liliths burial site together and pecus chooses to care for her, unable to explain why he’s grown fond of propin, maybe because she was so confusing, crying over a mortal was unheard of, maybe because she was a fool, why kill and destroy and then complain about it? maybe because he was jealous of how tender she talked of lilith, how despite him being aggressive and stand offish he wanted to be loved that softly, to be fought for with that much rage should anything happen to him

after some walking propin asked pecus to not tell anyone what she had done, still feeling guilty for her actions, and pecus, wanting to grow closer with this strange god agreed, pecus was used to caring for animals but not people, and certainly not other gods

the weeks that followed propin slowly got back to her old self, just a little quieter, she was kind and soft spoken and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but pecus couldn’t get the image of the animal she was when he first spotted her, and he might’ve even fell for her in that moment and decided for as long as they continue to exist he wants to stick close by to be someone she can rely on, or atleast someone that gets to see her at her most primal, in the name of love

pecus began visiting the mountain whenever propin died just to see what antics she’d get up to, and would occasionally visit to listen to her talk about whatever was on her mind, and while the tradition of pecus being her confidant technically started the night lilith died, it didn’t become reoccurring until pecus’s curiosity got the better of him and he’d visit her while she traveled andddd that’s it i cut a lot but basically that’s it

Aight I finished Azure Gleam. Here are some disorganized thoughts.

TL;DR it was ok. Best part was the character interactions, gameplay and storyline were meh.

It wasn't terrible. I was glad to find that it was more "what if this other stuff happened instead?" instead of "what if they never met Byleth?"

I don't love the gameplay. It's alright but it got pretty tedious, though admittedly I think I leveled too fast and things got too easy or something.

The story was underwhelming. As much as it was nice to see everyone get good things, it just wasn't compelling. It's great that Dimitri got revenge and never had a feral stage, but it didn't actually feel resolved at all. What made AM compelling was how he had to learn that revenge wasn't going to heal him, and that he would be wrestling with his mental illness forever. The moment at the end where he tells Byleth that he's going to visit his loved ones graves for the first time in years? So good! It's him saying that recovery is a process and he can grieve his loved ones instead of being terrified of their judgement! So like...great that he got answers in Hopes but I don't feel like he actually got better?

Shez was equally meh. She felt like a generic protagonist, almost annoyingly plucky. I just didn't get attached to her at all.

As mentioned, the character interactions were the best. It was nice to see the Faerghus 4 really addressing their trauma together, along with Dedue. It was awesome seeing Duscur soldiers in camp and being able to talk to them and get their perspective a little.

I was expecting more of Sothis. She was there for a bit and seemed to have strong feelings on things, but we never got more of an explanation of her knowledge of Epimenides. Also, when you defeat Thales, Rhea speaks about cleansing the world herself...I'm guessing she has similar beef with humans but plans to fix it more through control than through destruction? Or is she talking specifically about Agarthans? Idk still a lot of questions on all of that.

I'm interpreting Edelgard's behavior as like...having reverted to her child-self. It was really interesting but I wish they delved more into it. It honestly seemed strange that when she seemed to remember Dimitri, he just decided to walk away and not deal with it. I feel like he's cared about that a lot and he gave up on it really quick in the name of forgetting the past.

Other thoughts aside from things I've already expressed elsewhere-

- Byleth my beloved. Her interactions with Jeralt were my fave part of the game.

- Jeralt just being like "Yeah Byleth's weird. She's my world tho. If I die try to be her friend aight?"

- So much Faerghus lore, with the more casual stuff being most enjoyable, like Rodrigue talking about how people get super competitive in snowball fights.

- More Glenn characterization ❤️ His letter was everything I've wanted about him.

- Child: Did you see that big funny knight who's carrying entire carts of stuff?

Yuri:...oh my fucking god Dimitri are you serious

- Felix has a cat now it's canon

- Also canonized: Dimitri falling asleep facedown on his paperwork and people having heart attacks thinking he's dead

God, YES! I loooved Volo when we first met him but after that one ending? Every scene with him felt off, it felt like he knew, knew what we were, knew what we were able to do, knew far too much for my liking.

Truly. School festival? Wild i dont think ive ever been to one of those. Not sure mine ever had them but im glad you had so much fun! Its not completely finished yet i get that done next week but its very cool i love it. I have like. 12 piercings now with still more i want. CONGRATS ON GETTING MEI #3!!!!! i maxed out her talents already [thank god for how little time that calyx takes] so i just need to get relics for her now. Auugghhhg. but i decided im just gonna wait for the triple drop event to save myself some sanity and am currently focusing on ruan mei's talents rn since i run her with acheron <- guy who has no welt and his pela is lvl 50 not built. ah thats understandable!!! i was initially Completely uninterested in aventurine but used his trial as a march replacement in my clara team and it all fits together so nicely. speaking of which i literally got clara TWICE yesterday, one pull apart, without pity on standard. the universe loves me i guess. so shes e4 now. FOR FUCKING REAL but at least using acheron in sim uni lets one skip the non boss battles so thats a massive timesaver and also makes dealing with the swarm a lot less problematic. since you only have to deal with the big guy at the end and not trouble yourself with the occasional encounter on the way. seriously tho acheron is so cracked in sim uni. she let me get the achievement for finishing every battle with all allies at 100% hp. im currently using band of sizzling thunder + inert salsotto [LOL] on her!!! as i said. scuffed but does the job for now. but im gonna get her pioneer diver of dead waters + izumo gensei and takama divine realm since i heard thats whats best on her. and yeah her kit is super fun!! and have fun with that!! honestly fair, tho im just stuck in my holy trinity of hi3 - hsr - noita. also i love the bartender event a lot both story and gameplay wise. very very cool. and thankies!!!!!!!

duan jiayan is such a dense dumbass lmao ok it's understandable considering he's always thought he was a beta but i lowkey just felt so much pity for the ml for chasing him akjdlds ok ok but i like how thoughtful he actually is. like abt his family situation and his mother's remarriage, and how he's prob lonely inside but in the end realizes that some things just can't be measured in give and take and just does his best with what he has. and how once he got confessed to by lu xingci, he really started to consider the things lu xingci has done for him and how if he accepts now, it could be misconstrued as him accepting lu xingci's feelings and he doesn't want to lead him on. anw he's a great guy.

lu xingci is also such a good alpha good god he's gentle, respectful, sweet, but also with that repressed feral possessiveness that every reader craves for when seeking omegaverse stories to read. he is such a henpecked husband tho. he might be the alpha but duan jiayan is the one holding the reins in their relationship. i also like how he banters with duan jiayan and makes him speechless nghhhh truly the one with the brains.

yo i am so glad shen chilie isn't a second male lead childhood friend who's destined to lose. for once! he's just a normal friend! with normal concerns! and once he sees that lu xingci is good alpha material, he immediately warms up to him and his friends! u go dude!

there's no real plot it's just a fluffy highschool romcom in an omegaverse setting. i smiled a lot reading it. it's so cute! it's really cute! 

at this rate i need an actual subsection for ost, but anw the audio drama ost is also rly good! they even made one of the songs that was playing in-universe into an ost!

speaking of said ost, the moment in the wn where lxc realized his feelings for djy while the song was playing is such an iconic moment for me, whenever the ost plays i just picture that scene in my mind when djy turns around and asks if he’s good looking and lxc is like en you’re the best looking while inwardly he’s finally admitted that he likes djy ahhhhhh

reading abt duan jiayan sometimes is so... he's so naive and defenseless, like when he decided not to take an inhibitor during his heat on his bday and let lu xingci do whatever bc duan jiayan loves him a lot even though shen chilie painstakingly tells him it’s dangerous n that he needs to draw some lines. it's good he met someone good like lu xingci, or else he can easily be one of those bad end shou type of char if he gave his all to a scum gong…

duan jiayan’s family background could have been explored a little more, or the author could’ve leaned more towards how he could find a home with lu xingci i feel

very much agree with all your gideon comments, I read it a few months ago and was left feeling so that’s it??? for all the reasons you stated. I also just finished queen of attolia but didn’t love the twist as much as you - that book is still soooo good (loved it, prefer it over the thief even tho that one is great too bc I love all the machinations and stuff we get to see) and I still like the actual moment when the twist is revealed (I yelled), but would you mind talking a little bit more about why the twist worked for you and why you felt like it made everything make sense? Particularly why you felt like you didn’t want more information/inklings before that moment bc I felt like I kinda would have liked more (like in the first book)

I would loooove to talk about TQoA, yes, of course. spoilers below~

first to validate your gideon feelings: I had the same thought. that's it? I think the "marketing" (which refers to what I was hearing from other readers, not what the publisher was doing) was honestly mismatched with the actual book. alas!

as for the queen's thief books: I actually don't care for the thief as much! I view it very much as "book you have to read so you can get to the good stuff (the second book)". I've never reread it, though maybe I should.

I think what made the Big Romance Reveal work in TQoA is a combination of factors

1 - Gen and Irene have intense feelings for each other based on what happens in the first 50 pages of the book. From the get-go we think we know what their beef is and the ways in which their characters will relate to each other throughout the rest of the book. we see Gen grieving his hand/career and then deciding to live with it. (and then later we understand that it's more than him just deciding to overcome the loss of a limb: like, I think we're supposed to gather that Gen is determined and WILL find a way to get what he wants. then, later, seeing the lengths at which he's willing to go to pursue Irene (he becomes THE KING and he never WANTED TO BE A KING AAAA! BUT HE ACCEPTED IT BECAUSE IT MEANT PURSUING THE WOMAN OF HIS DESIRES!)

[as you can probably gather, I'm a sucker for romance, so it really helps me swallow characterization choices. oh he's in love? and willing to go to the brink of EVERYTHING for it? sign me up] 2 - Whalen Turner is, imo, a brilliant political drama writer. She kept me engaged and interested, and seeing Attolia and Eddis go head to head was deeply satisfying to me as a reader. Something that didn't work for me in Gideon was that I didn't give a damn about the quest for lyctorhood (and I didn't feel that gideon did, either) and I didn't think the Whodunit murders of the house nobles were that compelling.

The war between Attolia and Eddis could definitely get dense, and that's why I'm glad I listened to the audiobook (I was able to do other tasks or walk/run while listening), but I still think MWT is very gifted at creating clever traps for characters to use on each other. Attolia and Eddis being ruthless and and pragmatic and cruel and POWERFUL as they went toe-to-toe was just great fun in my eyes, so I was engaged as Gen set the pieces up for his conquest of Attolia, Queen and Nation.

Also, like.. Attolia and Eddis are warring over Gen. That's cool. That's fun. I am deeply a sucker for Chosen One/Special Boy narratives (hi sid) and this is that exact dynamic set on fire. EDDIS STARTED A WAR FOR HIM 😭 SHE LOVES HIM 😭 and as the book goes on we learn more and more about how much Gen means to Eddis and to his country, and how his complicated relationship with the gods informs his character, and how much he MATTERS.

and as we go along in the narrative, we see all the political machinations at play (or we don't, and they're very cleverly revealed to us later) and we understand that these characters have political roles to play but also have personal lives and thoughts and beliefs that they must keep close to their chest. like, Attolia's grief over cutting off Gen's hand (she tosses and turns in her bed, she sleeps poorly, she's distracted) is reasonably brushed off earlier on in the narrative as "young queen wrestles with the war she just started, also she just insulted the gods"... but when The Reveal Comes, it's like: oh fuck he was in love with her. and on some level, she knew it.

3 - I knew there was more coming. like, I very much view TQoA as a book that is about the war over Gen and it's Gen's greatest heist. the book isn't about his relationship with Attolia, and we get that in book 3 (which I also love desperately). the book is about Gen's mastery as thief (HE STOLE HER!!!! HE STOLE HER AND HE STOLE HER COUNTRY! I love Gen so much)

and as we spend the novel learning about how much he matters to this world (which we didn't get as much of in book 1), we also spend the novel seeing him adapt to the worst thing that's ever happened to him: he got his fucking hand cut off! his whole purpose is as thief! and we see him wrestle with that grief... but unbeknownst to us that grief is also fueled by the fact that the woman he loved did it to him. and it's like... that emotion was already there, and we watched him process it and decide how to proceed, and it all made sense WITHOUT The Reveal.

it's just that The Reveal made it all better to me. it was realizing that the slow-burn of the romance was in the rearview mirror, and going OH FUCK and needing to reread it instantly. all the emotional journeys in TQoA make sense without the reveal, I just think the reveal means they pack twice the emotional punch. and I didn't need a "EXPLAIN YOURSELF RIGHT NOW!" moment because I was able to just pick up the third book and dig into the ugly mess of "Gen and Attolia actually have to deal with being married to each other." great fun!

so... I think all these are viable points, but I want to note that my instant buy-in when it comes to romance totally played a part too. I just love it. it's my favorite genre. learning there was an ultimate high-stakes slow-burn happening the whole time was like being given a chocolate bar and opening it to find solid gold.

that isn't the case for everyone! I just think TQoA really nailed what I love in a story!

Albedo

Pretends you aren’t. Stuck inside a dream where you’re still alive. He would still call you, talk to you, and take you on a date. Sucrose and the people close to Albedo was worried about his mental health when they saw him talking to himself, as if you were still there beside him. He couldn’t accept you’re gone afterall.

Possibly, just maybe, he might bring that fantasy to reality. I mean his master was able to create him and other creations, why can’t he?

Smiling in satisfaction at his creation, he caresses the smooth cold surface of the cheek, ignoring the lack of warmth for obvious reasons. His eyes bore against the bright eyes of his lover, bright but not fully alive. Before him was his proudest creation yet. After so many failed attempts, he was finally successful. There you are, similar to Albedo, an artificial human. Blinking at Albedo before slowly taking in your surroundings, he watches your eyes sparkle in wonder at the things that surrounds you, despite the obvious messiness of his workshop.

He worked tirelessly to make it work. He’s glad his hard work payed off. He placed his hand on your chin and make you look at him again, smiling brightly at your confused expression. “Greetings my love. How was your sleep?” You didn’t say anything at first before replying, “who am I?” Despite the painful twist in his chest, he chose to ignore it. Albedo replied in a sweet voice, “my lover. My [Y/N].”

But of course, you aren’t [Y/N]. Not his lover. It was a mere replacement of you. As much as Albedo doesn’t believe in reincarnation and the gods, he desperately wishes for you to come back in another life.

Venti

Drinks everyday to forget the aching sensation in his chest. After all these years that pass by, you would think he is used to this, having lost so many friends and foes. Diluc and the others were concerned about his health but they can’t help him. What can they possibly do to mend a broken heart? But Kaeya and Diluc do encourage Venti to stop his consumption of alcohol.

As he grieves under the tree of Vanessa, he hums a tune. Creating a melody composing of a tale of his partner and the heartbroken bard. Maybe this would help soothe the ache in his chest.

The Tavern was bustling with drunk customers as usual, all laughing merrily without a care in this cruel world. The bard was in his usual spot near the bar, but instead of whisking the night away with drink after drink, he was simply playing with it. The actions make Diluc quirk a brow at. “You’re wasting the wine if you keep doing that.” He said offhandedly while eyeing the bard, long gone was the full-spirited Venti. Everyone that looks at him would take note of his horrible state.

Venti laughed, dryly if I may add. Looking up at the Tavern’s owner with eyes full of despair. “Say, Diluc.” Venti started putting his head on his hand, looking at the glass of wine on his hand. Humming as a reply, Diluc pours a drink for another customer. “How do you ease this ache?” There was a momentarily pause for a moment before Diluc heaved a heavy sigh. “It wouldn’t go away. Even as many years go by, the ache is still there. But we have to keep going. For the sake of the ones we have lost on the way.”

Venti’s eyes met his before smiling, not his usual smile but it’s still a smile. “Wise words as usual. You seem more wiser than me ehe.” He chuckled while Diluc sighed again. “All you do is drink wine anyway. I sometimes doubt that you’re THE anemo archon.”

Even though his ache isn’t gone completely, he knew he must keep going forward. Maybe the gods in celestia would fulfill his wish of your return. But until then, he will eagerly await for your return to this world.

Xiao

Acceptance. Anger. Resentment. Disappointment. All these mix up like chemicals inside him. All wanting to dominate one another. He has accepted your death, that was inevitable for you were a mere mortal. Death awaits you in every turn. But why did you have to go so soon? Did the gods really don’t care about his own happiness? Anger for he wasn’t to protect you on time. Resentment for whoever took you away from him and disappointment in himself.

Nothing changed much. Except that he’s more closed-off than before. He would tire himself out more. Preferring solitude now more than ever. But if you’re lucky enough, you can hear a sad melody being played through the wind near the Wangshu Inn rooftop.

As the tune of the flute dies out in the cold dead silence of the night, Xiao heaves out a sigh as he let the flute disappeared, leaving the trail of golden dust. He looks at the moon being blocked by the clouds as he recalls those days where it was you and him against the world. Closing his eyes, trying to recall the warmth you always emit when you hug him and the warmth of your smile.

Please, to the gods above, don’t let him forget these.

Opening his eyes as he reaches out for his mask, and then he was gone. Gone like the wind, swift like the lightning. As he continuously slaughters the monsters infesting the Liyue grounds, the face of you keeps replaying in his mind. Until he is unable to take it anymore. After swiftly killing off the last Hilichurl, he falls to the ground on his knees and cries. The burden on his chest was too much to bear. His broken cries echoes through the land with the dead bodies of the Hilichurls that he mercilessly slaughtered.

two and a half hours earlier:

You had gotten off the plane in NC, practically buzzing with nervous energy, or maybe it was the coffee you’d gotten on the plane, combined with the two energy drinks earlier in the day, but hey! it was a long flight, and it was already late.

It was nearly 10:30 by the time you got your bag, and pulled out your phone to check the new messages from Karl and Alex.

You had all planed to meet up originally at Karl’s house but then plans had changed when you and Alex figured it’d be cheaper to uber together, even if it ruined the plan of all of you meeting at once.

‘I just got my bag where are you?’ you texted Alex.

‘I only just got off the plane, I should get down to baggage claim soon tho’

You smiled, ‘I’ll see you them <3′

You stood against a wall, quietly scrolling through twitter as you waited, until a new message from Alex popped up.

It was a fairly blurry photo of a crowded airport, with a red circle drawn around one person.

‘that is you right?’

You chuckled, zooming in on the picture to determine that is was indeed you, ‘yup, that’s little ole me... stalker’

You looked up as you sent the text, rising on your toes to look over the crowd, trying to spot him, pulling out your camera you quietly explained what was going on and then:

“(Y/n)!” Alex emerged from the crowd, and immediately you grinned, throwing your arms around him.

“Alex!”

You pulled away long enough for Alex to ask, “Can I kiss you?”

Laughing you nodded, and his lips met yours, as your hands came to rest on the sides of his face.

When you pulled away Alex muttered, “wow.”

“That bad? Sorry.” You glanced down sheepishly.

“Not that-” he said quickly, taking a half step back, “It’s just- wow, you know. Like, we’re actually here together, and about to go meet up with Karl, and wow.”

You chuckled, “I guess that makes sense.”

He garbed your hand, “C’mon, I already called an uber.”

The whole way to Karl’s you sat nervously fiddling the cuffs of your hoodie, occasionally glancing at Alex, who smiled back reassuringly.

You sent a message to the group chat the three of you were in saying you would be there in two minutes at which he sent back a long string of emojis you could only take to mean that he was excited.

The car pulled up in front of the house and you got out, thanking the driver as Alex got your suitcases from the back.

Quietly you pulled out your camera, just as you had at the airport.

“Why are you filming everything?” Alex asked as you walked up to the house.

“We’re gonna do what George could never.” You laughed.

“Yeah but the lightings gonna be shit, it’s dark out here.”

“It’ll still be better than George!”

Alex laughed, high fiving you, “True!”

Almost as soon as you knocked, the door opened and Karl came barreling out, tackling both of you in a hug, “YOUR HERE!”

Alex barley kept him from falling over, “Yeah!”

“It’s almost like we planned it.” You couldn’t help but scoff at the camera.

Karl grinned, quickly pecking at your lips, and then Alex’s as he let go of you, “I am so excited that you guys are here!”

“Woah Karl where's the consent?!” Alex feigned shock.

“Oops?” He giggled.

You rolled your eyes with a chuckle, “Can we come in? It’s cold out here!”

“Oh, yeah, sorry, come in, come in!” Karl quickly moved back inside, waving you and Alex in, “Sorry.”

After getting your suitcases inside and being formally introduced to Shaun, Karl all but demanded for you to take pictures together, resulting in many shots that were blurry from too much laughter, but a few good ones, like the picture with the boys on either side of you, kissing your cheeks, which later went up on Instagram, and a picture of Karl, mid laugh looking back at you up on Alex’s back.

All of your previous anxiety was very much gone.

You laughed, looking at Karl’s phone as he showed the picture, “Oh my god!”

“That is amazing!” Alex agreed, leaning over you to look.

“It’s gonna be the stream announcement!” Karl declared, pulling up twitter.

You glanced at your phone, “Karl it’s almost one in the morning, no one would show up to a stream.”

Karl laughed, “You seriously underestimate the fans.”

The next thing you knew you were up upstairs, sitting off to the side of Karl’s streaming set up as Alex grabbed the guitar from the corner, “Karl you don’t even actually play, why do you have this?”

“Because I can?” He said absently, starting to set up for a stream.

The air was thick with excitement as Karl hit ‘go live’, and handed you and Alex extra sets of headphones.

Alex was still messing with the guitar, and you barley stifled laughs as he began to sing Country roads in a strange accent, and the chat filled with people.

“It’s pop off time!” Karl announced in a high pitched voice, making you laugh even more.

The face cam was turned on, and the yelling began.

After a few moments, and a couple more terrible bars of country roads, Karl grinned, “Everyone! This is, Quackity, our, uh, our guitarist for the day!”

Alex laughed, “We’re poppin off! We’re poppin off!”

“And (y/s/n)s here too!” Karl dragged your chair further in frame, “Welcome! Welcome!”

“It’s pop off central tonight boys!” You chuckled.

The alert box went insane as did the chat as Alex finally sat down next to you, and Karl stopped laughing enough to sit back up.

“Guys! Chill! You’re gonna break the alert box!”

You laughed again, “Yeah just tell your chat to stop, just knock it off, leave we’re done!”

Alex snorted, “It’s over!”

Karl pulled his chair closer to the desk, “Thanks for uh, being here, with the boys, uhh.”

He turned to Alex who was now essentially just spamming random chords, yelling, “I can’t hear you!”

You berried your face in your hands, trying to control your laughter.

Karl sighed and pulled his headphones off, “You know what? I’ll be right back, I’ll be right back.”

You immediately hopped seats as he left, “Hello chat! Hello!”

Alex leaned over, trying to grab the mic to pull it towards him, “hell-” part of the stand snapped, “Oh my god!”

“Oh my god you fucking broke it!” You yelled, pushing away from the desk.

“Oh god, hold on!”

He did his best to fix it, leaning in to talk to the chat, while Karl came back with another guitar.

“Why do you have two of them?” You laughed.

Karl grinned, “Technically it’s Shaun's!”

“OH WE”RE POPPING OFF! WE”RE POPPING OFF!”

You roared with laughter, quickly moving back out of the way as Karl jokingly swung the guitar at Alex.

Once you calmed down you caught a glimpse of the chat, “Guys I think you fucked something up!”

“Oh god!” Alex muttered.

“Wait- hold on- did-” Karl examined the mic, “Wait its unplugged!”

It took a few minutes to get things sorted out, and as Karl and Alex went back to yelling about popping off you spun around in your desk chair, “Pop off crew! Pop off crew!”

Things settled down again when you moved your chair back to between them, a sub goal was set for a height check, and you started to try and get things some what orderly.

“So yeah this isn’t just a Minecraft stream, I think we’re just hanging out, Popping off, you know, we’re gonna talk to chat-”

Karl began to laugh, and Alex tried not to chuckle as he said, “He’s laughing at you (y/n) he’s just laughing at you! What are you gonna do about it?”

“Listen man, I’m trying to get your fucking stream in order. If you just wanna fucking ignore me then fine!” You held your hands up in surrender.

“Well, I mean-”

Karl started to stand up, and you knew he was going for the fit check but Alex screeched, shoving his chair back, “Fuck off!”

“Wha?”

You laughed, “He thought you were going for the Hight check early man!”

“Dude it’s the fit check!”

Alex laughed as Karl sat back down, “Holy shit- cash app with the hundred tear ones!”

You giggled at the message, “They wanna see the height check! Who wants to see the height check? Who wants to see the height check chat?”

“No no no no! No height check early! It- it doesn’t matter, cause height is stupid, and a choice!” Alex struggled for words.

You shook your head whispering, “He just looks short next to Karl and he’s scared.”

“Shut up!”

A while later, after both Karl and Alex’s stream descended into chaos or partial chaos, you found yourself tucked between them on the couch.

Karl’s fingers were intertwined with yours, and Alex’s head lay on your shoulder.

“I’m glad to have finally met you guys.” You murmured.

“Yeah,” Alex hummed, “Actually being able to cuddle is much better than the online thing.”

Karl hummed in agreement, “I wish you guys could be here all the time.”

“Let’s get a house somewhere.” You mused.

“Somewhere convenient for you two nerds to go to school.” Karl chuckled.

Alex yawned, “Somewhere near good take out.”

You smiled sleepily, “Anywhere with you guys is fine by me.”

Distantly a clock on the wall read 4:23 am.
