GODDDD I'm just tryna listen to a little podcast talking about The Thing movies but half of it is just the two guys absolutely SHITTING themselves over there being a woman in the prequel. haven't watched an italian series in a minute, and:

A Batfamily fan PSA: stop portraying Duke as adopted by Bruce in fan works.

Unlike the vast majority of Batkid pre-Bruce parents, Duke’s parents are alive! They’re unfit for custody due to special persistent Joker toxin, but it hasn’t been conclusively proven they can’t be cured and Duke will always, always hold out hope that it’s possible! He will keep working to save them and bring them back to him and themselves!

Because also unlike the vast majority of Batkid parents, Doug and Elaine Thomas are good. They are really good people and really good parents. Their influences and teachings of compassion, justice and how to find the truth in a world full of darkness and corruption - with a theme of literal and figurative light - are a huge part of what makes Duke the Signal, the hero and the generally great person he is today. Elaine was a therapist who would visit patients as early in the morning as possible to try to see them before they had time to put up facades; Doug was a construction worker made to work at night to save costs and showed Duke how to see the cracks and flaws of the resulting rushed jobs in the daylight; Duke patrols in the day, embracing the sunshine as much as Batman does the shadows, and his superpower is literally seeing the world differently and with greater clarity and understanding through manipulating his perception of light. I cannot stress enough how important to his character his parents are. He loves them unconditionally and a facet of his vigilante identity is honouring them.

Furthermore, it turns out that Doug accepted and loved Duke as his own while aware they weren’t biologically related and Elaine rejected and ran from the ancient immortal superpowered entity Gnonom (basically lowkey a god), Duke’s biological father, to keep her son safe from him, the threat of his retribution nothing compared to letting him hurt or use her baby.

So he isn’t just going to forget about them to be adopted by Bruce! Fostered? Yeah, okay. I’m behind that. I love Duke living with the Wayne family. And is he emotionally Bruce’s son? Well, canon isn’t quite there yet, but it’s sweet and wholesome and I’m here for that relationship in fan works. But adoption is more serious, it is explicitly legally declaring the guardian to be your true dad. No way is Duke going that far with his parents a) alive and not ruled out of regaining his custody someday and b) unable to give their consent for it. I mean, we all agree with canon that Dick was fostered, not adopted, when he was eight, and only accepted being adopted as an adult once he’d fully come to terms with Bruce being his new dad without replacing his long-dead loving birth parents, right? So stop erasing and disrespecting Duke’s parents and their presence (even through their absence) in his life just so you can remove nuance from Bruce and Duke’s bond! He’s a Batkid, absolutely, but he is no Wayne - he’s a Thomas and rightfully proud of it.

Hey. So uh um currently just pissed off at America, capitalism, and the American Health Care system. So here is me word vomiting about it.

I will never understand health insurance. I myself have my own personal stories with American healthcare. Like, y'know how people have to pay a shit ton of money on health insurance? Yeah well from personal experience I can tell you that yeah, it can help, but it will never help a ton. I myself had to stay in a hospital for almost a week because of a magnet related incident because if I didn't go, I would have died. Yeah, the insurance helped, but my parents still had to pay a shit ton of money to just keep me alive. The American healthcare system is set up in such a way that the greedy rich business men that run the health insurance bullshit just take a ton of your money. Like they help, but only a little bit. People everyday are passing away because they can't afford to stay at a hospital or get medical help. The greedy bastards that run the health insurance shit aren't willing to help people live. They will give a little bit, but people are constantly going on to debt just so they can live. The rich will always just get richer. That's how America as a whole is set up. I am so tired of America's capitalist bullshit. With inflation, people should get raises to be able to get enough money to pay for even cheap food, right? Well I guess not because prices keep rising but nobody is getting raises. People have to work their asses off to even survive the day. I just personally think that it's all royally fucked up.

I have seen so many fucking people on tumblr argue that protagonists always are the good guys BECAUSE they are the protagonists and your supposed to root for them and agree with them. Which is so wrong for so many reasons. And i would blame it on tumblr having the media literacy of a child and it being a product of the shows they watch, since most of then are animated shows (with some exceptions) and more often then not have that setup up...EXCEPT SO MANY DIFFERENT SHOWS HAVE THE PROTAGONIST AS A BAD GUY BEING THWARTED CONSTANTLY!??!
