Images from The Vault. Considered and described by me, 20 years later.
Selected things I thought were worthwhile and important to share on my LiveJournal as a 13-18-year-old (2003-2008).
Terrible. Fascinating. I hate her. I love her.
Pupe Girl screenshots with their titles because I thought they were funny. Pupe Girl completely consumed my life. I never got into Gaia Online like a lot of my friends did, but jfc Pupe was everything and I HAD to have that stupid pixel Lacoste alligator bag. I eventually got it. That was a good day. I insisted on entering the contests naked. I never won. No emojis, just >U and :U (2007)
A bandaid I took the time to scan and share? (circa 2005)
Fanart of 15 year old me!! From online and IRL friends. I had pink hair and it was my whole personality. (2005-2007)
My School Is Crap phone background from a time when you had to pay to download any new backgrounds. (2007)
A picture of two of the most important things in my life: LiveJournal and Pikachu. I designed and coded that layout and was really proud. Remember when putting "don't steal my codes" was a thing you did in your bio? (March 7, 2005)
Hanging out in the basement of the Regina Gay Bar for Gay Youth Group, eating candy, talking shit. Look.at.my.phone. on the right. Flawless. (January 4, 2005)
My favourite book and manga at 15. I've been meaning to re-read Kazuya Minekura's works again. I ended up sending 2 copies of Good Omens to 2 of my LiveJournal friends to make them read it. I wish I still had my first Good Omens. Love how I'm still weird about it 20 years later. (circa 2005)
Listen. Being 13 and gay was gnarly. (I ID'd as a lesbian back then) Being a little queer going to Catholic school, I was completely obsessed with t.A.T.u.. I knew all their songs in English and Russian. Even Lena's version of Yugoslavia. Taken with my first cell phone ever. (circa 2005)
Self portrait lmao. Pokemon. Pokemon everything. Forever. (2005)
Making Indigenous themed gingerbread with a semi-famous ndn chef and I HAD to weeb it up. (December 2006)
My sacred Mashimaro socks that @ayecaptain stole from me. It became a thing to say: "give me back my mashimaro socks bitch" for years. They eventually gave them back when the elastics were all worn out. (2006)
It's so strange and bittersweet to see screenshots of bizarre and highly-specific inside jokes from my online friends that I can't even remember the names of. I remember what your friendship felt like, and that's what matters I think.
fuck my stupid baka life

Bernie Sanders finally made a statement, on Nov. 4, calling for a "pause" in the bombing. People in the replies are saying "better late than never!" and I don't even know where to start.
The genocide has been going on for almost a month. Over 9,000 men, women, and children have been murdered. Thousands more have been wounded. Members of press and healthcare and their families have been deliberately targeted and assassinated. Israel has been murdering civilians en masse with impunity for weeks, both lying about it and blatantly admitting to it. 100+ Palestinians have been murdered in the West Bank due to settler terrorism backed by the Israeli army.
In an interview, Dr. Ofer Cassif, the Knesset member who was suspended for calling for an end to Israeli violence against Palestinians, revealed that he'd reached out to Bernie months prior to Oct. 7th because of the pogroms being carried out by Israelis against Palestinians which he said would result with an "explosion [of violence]", but received no response.
what the fuck do you mean "better late than never". what the fuck do you mean? the genocide is still ongoing, and, just like Blinken, Biden, and every complicit ghoul, he's calling for a pause. not a ceasefire. a ceasefire is just the start of what needs to happen. but he hasn't even called for that.
"better late than never" what gives you the fucking right to say that? tell that to the 10,000 people who the U.S. and its allies allowed Israel to murder. tell that to the thousands of wounded. tell that to the thousands who have been displaced. tell that to the people of Gaza who have been without food, water, and fuel for WEEKS. tell that to the Palestinians in the West Bank who are being murdered at the hands of settler terrorists. tell that to the Palestinians who were abducted and tortured and released with blue bands around their ankles. tell that to the Palestinians in occupied Palestine who can't reach their families and friends. tell that to Palestinians in diaspora who have seen their families, their friends, their people slaughtered with the full backing and support of the vast majority of western governments and media.
"better late than never" no, it's not good enough. IT'S NOT. there are SO many people around the world - both citizens and members of government - who recognized the injustice for what it was the DAY the bombing started. we owe the Palestinian people so much more than that. "better late than never" the ONLY thing that could POSSIBLY begin to even "make up" for the horrors and injustices inflicted upon the Palestinian people for almost a century is to end the genocide, end the occupation, end the apartheid, end settler colonialism, and dismantle the colonial state. Palestinians deserve NO LESS than total emancipation. Complete liberation. until then, it is not and will never be enough.

one of the absolute funniest moments on scott's tour that i wasn't able to capture on camera (for obvious reasons) was at the meet and greet after the nashville show these two older gay guys mentioned they were reading scott's wikipedia page before the show to find out more to chat about at the meet and greet and like. idk if this is just because i am very familiar with scott's wikipedia page but you could tell that was the extent of their scott knowledge (which is valid not everyone is researching a documentary on the guy)
but then they asked about the poster for the lowest show, which they'd never heard of before their wikipedia reading, specifically this quote:
"The posters—featuring Thompson lying supine on the ground with a big wad of semen dripping down the side of his face—went up around the city on September 10, 2001"
and they were like "wow we'd love to see those posters hahaha" and i immediately jump in like "oh i have that photo on my phone give me like 2 seconds"
to be clear: these guys had not interacted with me or acknowledged my existence the entire conversation. they had their backs to me when they were talking to scott, i did not introduce myself as directing the documentary since i wasn't filming and they didn't ask who i am, etc. but my brain was like "oh someone wants to learn more about scott? my time to shine, let me pull up that folder in my camera roll". even scott was like jfc here they go again.
anyway i barely had to scroll back in my doc research folder so i immediately held out my phone to the guys and showed them this
it's a photo taken days after 9/11 of scott in front of the posters for his show which was supposed to open the following week
so i hold out my phone and explain this thinking like hey i'm being so helpful these guys wanted to see this aspect of scott lore and i gave it to them!! meanwhile these two old guys are like i can't even focus on the poster anymore i am standing next to scott thompson and also WHO THE FUCK IS THIS CHILD AND WHY DID THEY JUST HAVE THIS ON THEIR PHONE?
another one of the funniest tour moments was after meeting up with some gay guys in their 70s who were friends-of-a-friend-of-scott and immediately befriending both of them we were about to leave and i asked for their phone number and scott just rolled his eyes and was like i'll give you his phone number in the car as though he was saying "jfc jessamine this is ridiculous even for you". he never ended up giving me the old guy's number
