What’s strange about the opinion? First of all, there is the supposed harm to the plaintiff. Smith, by her own account, is not a designer of wedding websites. She is merely an aspiring wedding-website designer who reportedly dreamed from childhood of the heterosexual wedding websites she would someday create. While one can admire the particularity of this vision, her plight pales a bit beside the counterweight of gay couples trying to plan weddings without facing discrimination. His contact information led Gira Grant to a straight, baffled, married web designer who says he would have had no reason to contact Smith. Then there is the argument itself. A wedding website is an example of “expression,” sure — both sides agree on that. But Gorsuch, following a lower court, calls such a website “pure speech,” as if no services were being provided and the primary point of the website was to express the designer’s views on matrimony. In any case, he argues, the right of protected classes to equal treatment holds no weight before the free speech rights of expressive vendors: “When Colorado’s public accommodations law and the Constitution collide, there can be no question which must prevail.” This seems awfully odd if only because there is such an obvious comparison to interracial marriage — historically anathema to certain religious groups but not, in my lifetime, something for which vendors could legally withhold services. But maybe I was the crazy one. So I asked for help from Lewis and Clark Law School professor James M. Oleske Jr., whose 2015 article comparing religious exemptions for interracial marriage and same-sex marriage is cited by Justice Sonia Sotomayor in her dissent.

Hi! I wanted to say, I read that you are a professional editor, and think it's amazing! You also give very logical and well explained advice. I was wondering; would you say being an editor is a job you can support yourself with? I actually aspire to become one someday, but I'm not exactly sure if it's a good plan.

Hey there. Great question. It's totally possible to support yourself as an editor. I've done it, and so have other editors I know. However there are a few important things to consider before choosing editing as a career path.

Your chances of being a self-employed freelancer are extremely high. The number of in-house editing jobs in publishing are low and getting lower. While being self employed can give you a certain amount of flexibility, it also comes along with a lot of hustle and hassle, namely fluctuating income, a stupid amount of confusing tax paperwork, and the need to constantly promote yourself to clients in order to maintain steady work.

You probably won't make as much money as you'd think. Editing is one of the many skilled jobs that suffers from market saturation, which has sadly driven down the price the average client is willing to pay for editing services. I can't tell you the number of overqualified editors I know charging barely more than minimum wage for their work. Personally I've stuck to my guns about charging what I'm worth, but I've sometimes suffered by not having as much work as my colleagues who charge less.

Robots have already chipped away at the future of editing as a human occupation, and will continue to do so at exponential speed in the years ahead. They will never obliterate the job completely, as there will always be humans who prefer to work with humans instead of machines. But the outlook will become ever bleaker as more humans compete for fewer gigs, which in turn will drive down prices even further.

If you are also a writer, editing may adversely affect your writing. I don't mean that you'll become a worse writer, quite the opposite. My editing work has brought new depths to my writing, and I'm grateful for all I've learned by working with my clients. However, editing takes time, uses creative energy, and requires staring at a screen (or paper), and personally the more I edit, the less time/creativity/screen-staring capabilities I have left for my own writing.

If you mention you're an editor, someone will troll your post for a typo, grammatical error, or misused word, and then triumphantly point it out to you in the comments. This is mostly a joke. But it does happen every single time.

I hope this hasn't been too discouraging. If you feel a true passion for editing and really enjoy the work, none of the above should dissuade you. However, if you think you might be happy in any number of occupations, I'd honestly advise you to explore other options. Choosing a career path at this point in history is a gamble no matter what, but the outlook for editors is especially grim.

If you'd like to work with writers and aren't attached to being an editor, there are a few jobs (still freelance) that I believe will survive the coming robot apocalypse. Do a little Google research about "book coaches," "writing coaches," or "book doulas." These are people who act primarily as emotional supporters and logistical helpers for writers who are trying to get their book published or self published. Some of them do actual editing, but many do not, and due to the therapeutic nature of their work I believe they will flourish longer than editors in the coming robot apocalypse.

If you do explore editing as a path, the further away you can lean from spelling and grammar (e.g. proofreader or copyeditor), the longer your skills will be useful when competing with robots. AI still struggles to offer the same kind of nuanced, story-level feedback that a human can give. (Speaking from experience here--I'm a developmental editor and have yet to see a dent in my workload because of robots.) They'll catch up eventually, but it could be a while, and as long as there are human readers, there will always be humans who are willing to pay for a human perspective on their writing. Human spell checkers maybe not so much.

I'm never gonna play SLARPG- not from any sense of disdain, god no, quite the opposite- from the amazing impact it's had on my dear friends, the things it has done for the community, the voice it lent to folks who so desperately need one- now more than ever- it's a game I hold in incredibly high regard, ditto its creators who worked so very hard to make it happen!

It's a wonderful, heartfelt thing that I'm certain would tug at my deepest heartstrings- and that's exactly why I can never play it.

I don't really know how to put it to words- or rather, how to put it to words without sounding like a terrible bore- but... I've learned as I've untangled and addressed a lot of the pain in my life that there are certain stories, certain tropes that hit consistently close to home, tugged on chords I'm not really able to have tugged, even now. Stories of personal relationships, disappointing and ultimately reconciling with the ones we love, of identity, of doubt, of anguish, even the catharsis of defeating those things. For all I care about stories like that, for all I wonder if someday I'd tell my own- something in me broke years ago, and... well, now it's something that sets off the post-traumatic stress like a bomb.

All the harder when you know the stories told would speak to your heart of hearts.

I say all this not to sound like a miser, or to make any of this about me- god no, it's not- but I thought I'd share my experience, as I do, and just express that, even as someone on the outside and always looking in, what these folks made is something that gave the people I love- and the community I cherish- a voice, and many of them, faces and figures to look up to, to aspire to.

And I don't have to play a game to know that's the highest honor, in my eyes, a creative work can gain.

The Sims 4 Taylor Swift Eras Challenge

I sometimes fancy myself as a Mastermind. I had an idea of making a new Sims 4 legacy challange based on Taylor Swift’s Eras. First things first, I googled if something like it exist. I found @gillysims “Swiftacy” challenge and it was really awesome! Dr. Adagio is a very reserved and somewhat strict teacher. He is similar to Trein in demeanor. Most of the students did not really like him as a math teacher, but have seemed to notice he is a lot nicer when it comes to teaching music. He loves nurturing students in the creative arts so if they actively put an effort he’ll do what he can to help them reach their goals. If you don’t care about music and you’re just in there to slack off, you will be kicked out immediately and it’s very difficult for you to ever change his perception of you. It’s rumored that he was once a great musician so students wonder how he ended up as a teacher.

he spends most of his free time with his spouse, Michalis Sideris (Xen’s OC) but he is also quite good friends with Professor Trein. He gets along with most of the other teachers, but despises Vargas and find Crowley somewhat annoying.

Here’s what the students don’t know (oooh mysterious)

he had aspirations of becoming a musicians and his dreams were utterly crushed when things didn’t pan out. He’d spent so much writing songs that would never be heard. This tainted music for him. He got a job at Somercrest Academy as a math teacher. It didn’t pay much, but he got by until he found out that there was an opening for a similar position at night Raven college, which paid substantially more and was a much more renowned school. He got the job and later became a music teacher as he began incorporating music back into his life when he found he still enjoyed riding songs in secret for his spouse. Music is his love language. He’s also slowly going blind, and is worried that someday he won’t be able to play and write music the way he does now. But his spouse is helping him through it.

Psycho Analysis: The Wall

(WARNING! This analysis contains SPOILERS!)

Spidey Super Stories is what you get when you take Spider-Man from The Electric Company and give him a comic run of his own. It’s geared more towards kids, so there’s a lot wackier and out-there concepts on display, and is the originator of not only Spider-Woman (though not Jessica Drew), but also this:

And, of course, the evildoer known as The Wall. Or more specifically, the Wicked Wall.

Now, here’s thing (and I ain’t talking about that other bricked-up superpowered Marvel character): The Wall is a villain in a Spidey series loaded with some of the wackiest and most bonkers one-shot villains ever put to page. Case in point: Thumper, the girl who dresses as Napoleon Bonaparte, wields a boxing glove, and is defeated by being gifted the pony she always wanted since she was a child, a villain who will definitely be getting one of these reviews someday soon. And then there’s the panels like the ones above, where we get the iconic Thanoscopter. How is The Wall supposed to compete with such iconic madness?

Motivation/Goals: My man Joshua here is, quite simply, a hater. He saw Spider-Man was having a day off, and decided, “Oh HELL no, if I gotta be a brick wall I’m making that his problem!”

And he does! In an impressive twist of fate, The Wall manages to get Spidey kicked out of the Mets game the poor hero was trying to enjoy! Sure, he’s kicked out too and he doesn’t seem particularly happy, but a Pyrrhic victory is still a victory. Kind of.

Final Fate: In a fate even the Kingpin would agree is far too cruel, The Wall… is kicked out of the Mets game alongside Spider-Man. They’re last seen moping outside the stadium together.

Best Scene: The guy’s on four fucking pages, let’s just say his entire existence is perfect. But if I’m singling out a tiny sequence, I think this one might be the funniest:

Of course, there's also the sheer comedy of his backstory, where he was a simple boy building a wall when suddenly it fell, somehow turning him into a monster. Maybe the cement was radioactive? It defies all logic in the best way:

Final Thoughts & Score: The Wall is a great example of the weird, off-the-wall (heh) creativity utilized in comics at the time. He really has it all: A ridiculously punny name that kind of had his fate sealed from birth (Joshua Waldemeyer), no real reason for villainy, an absurd and nonsensical accident that created him that defies any and all logic, a ridiculous yet endearing design, and an endless supply of corny one-liners. This is what goofy one-shot villains should aspire to be.

Of course, that doesn’t leave me with much to talk about in regards to him; there’s no deep complexities or tragic backstories here, just a simple case of a goofy gimmick villain being a lot of fun due to an absurd design and a simple scheme. Unlike the last villain I reviewed, I’d say the relatively simple and straighforward gimmick of being a fucking wall was used to great effect, giving plenty of goofy puns and gags as well as utilizing his bizarre ability to be a nuisance. Like yeah, you could probably swap out The Wall with someone like Rhino or Juggernaut and get the same basic effect, but would it be nearly as funny?

A 7/10 is a fair score for this guy. He’s just a perfectly fun one-shot who, despite only a brief time in the spotlight, isn’t such a terrible idea he couldn’t work if brought back in some regard. Hell, they almost brought him back for Across the Spider-Verse, with his absence being the only thing holding the movie back from true greatness.

I think my only gripes with him are that he's only there for four pages, which while understandable is rather disappointing, but more importantly is that he's in a comic that seems filled to the brim with utter absurdity around every corner. After seeing the Thanoscopter, would you not be comfortably numb to a living mound of masonry? All in all, is he not simply another brick in the wall?

No you fucking goon, he IS The Wall itself. And nothing can take that away from him. If nothing else, I’m definitely going to have to look through more of these Spidey stories to see what other bonkers villains lie waiting for me.

Here’s that SoonTM update about things you probably already know about.

Woah hey hey guys. It’s been uhmm... A really long time, huh... Hope you’ve all been doing well. 

So... Where to even start? I want to say that not a single day has gone by without me thinking about this project in some capacity. I’m my friend group’s Dungeon Master and I’ve included characters from Sudden Changes in some capacity throughout the roleplays I’ve run. The Followers, Spout, so on. I’ve always wanted to come back to this project someday. 

Since the last update I have graduated college, started my full time job, and trans’d my gender. So the peep you used to know as <REDACTED> is now known by as Nora. I also have been working on my art skills, writing, programing, learning guitar, and so on. I’ve had my ups. I’ve had my downs. And I’ve been living my life. And that means I haven’t been actively working on Sudden Changes. 

Sudden Changes was always envisioned as a form of side sequel to Undertale, exploring how familiar yet foreign characters would interact with each other and the events that unfold from that. And Deltarune does that in ways I could never imagine. Playing it was an experience. It felt like pure creative liberation. For lack of better words, it was beautiful. To this day I can say earnestly and with full conviction that... 

My love for Undertale has never faded. My love for Deltarune has never faded. My love for Sudden Changes has never faded.

I have no idea what Deltarune’s impact on Sudden Changes will be. So, I’m comfortable waiting until Deltarune is fully released before picking this project back up. 

I’ve met so many wonderful people through the Undertale AU community, people who I interact with even to do this day. Seeing Sudden Changes fan content get millions of views on Youtube, that awesome vs. Sans animation, and so on, I am really honored to have been the recipient of your support, excitement, and so many other positive emotions. And I hope to be that person again in the future-- But this project isn’t what I need for my creative aspirations, right now.

So if you’re wondering, “Nora, if that’s the case... What are you doing right now? I actually liked your personality, creativeness, and way of thinking outside of what I saw in Sudden Changes. “When I met Olivier, we talked a lot about our style and his mindset,” says Hongjoong, adding that he was inspired by Rousteing’s ability to add his distinct perspective to the established fashion house. “These days I think about that when I make music or when I write lyrics: how to make it my own way,” he says. “First I think about what I want to say, and then how to make that message cooler to our audience or fans.”

As a group, Ateez has cultivated a toughness within their music and look. “When on the stage, I fall into that character every time. With my outfit too, if the song is really hard or tough, I want to make my character hard and tough. So that’s why I wear dark clothes and a lot of jewelry,” says Hongjoong. “But also I put my own opinion in there; it’s not only tough, there is some elegance.”

Before reuniting with the rest of Ateez to head out for their fan signing, Hongjoong brings the conversation back to fashion, noting that he has high aspirations. “I want to study design, and someday I want to try to be a designer to make my own fashion line,” he says. “That’s one of my goals.”

Hongjoong also notes a promise he made to Ateez fans at the beginning of the year: more performances and more music. “These days, we’re really trying hard to make new music and make new things with our members,” he says, adding that in his off-time he’s been adding to his creative arsenal — taking guitar lessons, for example — while ensuring that he’s able to stay healthy and bring his all to each performance.

Hey girl! I'm a huge fan of your mortal kombat and COD fics :) I loved every single one that I've read so far (planning on reading your Bodyguard!Ghost fic tonight!) and I really enjoy reading your HCs and your answers to the questions that people send you!! You have such a way with words and I'm just in absolute awe of your writing. Also, the one-shot fic you wrote recently of Konig's POV in the Just Friends AU? I damn near DIED when I read it oh my god. Such a beautiful, deliciously dark, and poetic piece of writing. You've truly outdone yourself, seriously!

I had a question regarding your process when it comes to writing. I really love the idea of writing a fanfic, but I have no idea were to start! I used to write fan fiction for fun when I was younger, but I had a really embarrassing experience that put me off of writing completely. I'm now trying to get back into writing, but it feels so... hard! I tried writing a small slasher fic a few months ago, but it felt like rolling a boulder up a hill. It took a very long time and I was never quite satisfied with what I wrote, so I never finished it.

I really want to try writing a Konig fic, but I have a hard time thinking of an interesting plot that I would be excited to write about. Also, fleshing out a character like Konig (who we have very little canon information about), is something I am struggling with. Which is why I really loved your Walküre and Just Friends series, because you were able to make Konig and the reader these incredibly interesting, really complex, three-dimensional characters!

So, I guess my question (or questions, at this point. lol.) to you is: What advice would you give someone who's trying to write their first, proper fic? What's your writing process like? What do you do to help get your imagination going? What do you use for inspiration and what makes you excited to write? How do you manage to take an idea or a HC and manage to craft a whole fic out of it?

First of all, thank you so much! I have actually cried twice just thinking about this ask, your kind words made me so happy and emotional. I’m so so glad that you liked my fics (especially the MK one which I’m not that proud of)!

I’m sorry to hear you had such an experience as a young aspiring writer. I had the courage to share my fics only this year, and I’m over 30 yrs old! So the fact that you’ve put your works out there early on and had to deal with things like that must’ve been upsetting. Creative pieces are always a piece of our soul as well.

Also non-relevant but I love slashers too!! Aahhh!! 🔪❤️‍🔥 I hope you will someday find the passion to finish and publish that fic (I bet I would roll in it).

And umm, I feel I'm kinda poop at giving advice but I'll try my best! ->

Where to begin?

The reason why I wanted to bring the MK work up is because it was my very first proper fic and I wanted to say that I know exactly how you feel with the 'rolling a boulder uphill' -thing! The process with my first fic was exactly like that. I wrote it on/off for 2 years because I felt like the story and my writing sucked.

I don't know if you're suffering from the same thing, but I had a desperate need to make a good story (whatever that means, lol.) Of course we want people to enjoy what we create, but in my case, this perfectionism nearly killed my motivation to write. So the first thing I highly recommend is to shake off the need to be perfect and all the other intrusive thoughts that disturb your writing process ❤️‍🩹

So instead of trying to create a "good" story, I started to concentrate on the things I want to write. What would be the most delicious, cute, smutty or lovable imagine to write if no one was there to judge? What moves me in a character or a trope? What if I ditch all the rules and just write, even if the story and the plot don't yet make sense?

I started to write for myself and create scenes for the simple joy of it. The story became my safe space where I rushed to immerse and indulge after work. It became my guilty pleasure. Writing always becomes fun and inspiring again when I treat the story like it's my own little playground where I can do whatever I want. Everything else in life is compulsory, but my own little imaginary world is there just for me!

What also helped me was to read a ton of fanfics from writers whose style and stories I admired. It doesn't matter if the fics you read are not from the fandom you're writing for, actually, it might be better if they're not! That way you can get a sense of direction on where you want to go with your writing while also maintaining a clean palate for your own headcanons and ideas.

Writing process

This is a tough one because my writing process is very chaotic. I never know what I’m about to write or what the final version of a story will look like.

I usually start by writing the most hedonistic, self-indulgent scene first. For example in Just Friends the first scene I wrote was reader watching König masturbate in the shower. I just thought it was a tasty imagine 🙄 I thought it would be funny if his reaction to noticing her would be to blurt that he was thinking about how tight she is… Like, no one in their right mind would say that!

König's reaction then gave me the idea of him being delusional – this dark yandereish character who's obsessed with women and killing. My hands now itched to write this story. I needed reader to be drawn to him despite his craziness, and thought it could be because of his knives…? And proceeded to put a scene in the beginning where she admires his knife skills and tricks.

Then I had the idea that the knives could play an even bigger role in the story – wait, they could provide one of the main themes, actually! Knives ended up connecting these two characters in a distortedly romantic way. Apparently, it was a compelling read for some, and I got to indulge in my knife kink 🙈

So in a way, I start by self indulging and then kind of let the story tell itself? Allow it to introduce elements organically? I'm sorry if this sounds cryptic, I honestly don't have a method to my madness, at least not yet!

Only after I’ve written a few scenes that "want to come out" I start to see recurring themes, symbolism, classic storytelling components… When they pop up spontaneously, I take note and then add more of that same ingredient if I find it necessary (for example knives in Just Friends).

Only after I’ve written enough scenes to make a story, I start to edit & polish it into fic. See if the sentences and paragraphs have a nice rhythm, replace some words with synonyms that sound better, remove or add things if necessary.

Inspiration/imagination

I personally happen to love myths & folklore and I guess it shows because I sometimes refer to my characters as gods, angels, demons, krakens, tengus and whatnot. I read about classic Greek myths and immediately associate König with Theseus or some other tragic hero. I read about Japanese “dog-men” who live in the wilderness and train people in the art of war, and think about Hanzo Hasashi and how he is a demonic outcast who roams the realms in search of love retribution.

I draw shamelessly from myths and archetypes because they speak to the unconscious and add a fairytale-like touch to the story. I think most people are naturally drawn to these elements even if the fic otherwise is not a mythical/fantasy au.

Real life, real people, real hobbies and experiences are good sources for inspiration too, actually, they're one of the best! Some people are good at humor and make their stories feel an uplifting comfort read, some people have suffered severe depression and can describe the depths of existential pain with astonishing beauty. Some writers can describe with realistic detail how it feels like to shoot an AK-47 because they practice shooting.

So as a writer you can (and should!) draw inspiration from anything and everything you see, hear, smell or touch. Treat your life experiences, big or small, as resources. One time I started to write a short drabble on a rainy day and introduced the scene by describing how the rain batters against the window. So even small, cliche, trivial things like the day's weather can be inspiring and serve the story.

How to craft headcanons

When I try to get to know a character I simply immerse myself in the source material. I try to ignore the fan stuff that’s already been created, even if it's what got me into the fandom in the first place. I try to make my own judgments and interpretations no matter what I've seen or heard up until that point.

For example for König I listened to his voicelines a lot, I watched videos of him and even watched them in slow mo because I wanted to study the way he moves (lol I’m normal about him)

I tried to study things like: What vibe does he give? Does he resemble someone I know irl? Do his eyes tell a story, what kind of a past does this man have? Is he shy? If so, what kind of shy? Or is he arrogant and spiteful? A bully who used to be bullied? Etc etc.

Some of my hc’s come from how I view different people in real life, in yandere!König's case I exaggerate a lot but it’s basically just a mashup of people I associate him with. That’s where I start and then I might get further ideas of "I just know he would do this" or "he would say that", and it’s basically like baking bread and you add flour every now and then until the dough swells on its own? (lol what a metaphor)

I also have to give a shoutout to all the amazing people here who have sent me messages and headcanons and thoughts on König, without the input of other people I would never have come up with some of the things I did! So don’t be afraid to call other people to join & bake the bread with you? ^^ If you have friends in the fandom, brainstorm with them. My asks are SADLY closed atm but anyone who wants to brainstorm about König or Ghost is always welcome to my dms 🩷

Crafting a fic from hcs

My first hc ever for König was that he must be a gym guy because he's so athletic. Then I thought how heartbreaking it would be if he was this stereotypical "battling my inner demons" gym guy, because he kinda gives off this loner energy, right...?

From here, you could already craft a story where poor loner König meets someone at the gym. The first scene could be ripe with pining and flirting and how sweet it is that König forgets about his inner demons everytime he sees his gym crush. Next scene: first date. Is it awkward or cute? Both? What kind of dynamic does this couple have?

Third scene: do you want to write smut? Do they have sex or do you want to add some angst & drama, maybe introduce a third wheel and make König suffer? (Poor guy just went to the gym to escape his inner demons and now he's suffering even more omg)

Gaeul || the lovers: She wants to stay in the entertainment industry and do as many activities as possible - not only singing, but also MCing, acting, songwriting, etc. Gaeul might also be thinking of setting up her own company at some point in the future.

Yujin || the magician: This is all about communication, so acting seems like a good option. I think she'll continue being an idol on top of that, though - the 6oS at the bottom of the deck tells me she may aspire to even have her own World Tour someday.

Rei || the magician: I got the exact same combination as for Yujin, so it's likely the same.

Wonyoung || eight of cups: Wonyoung is planning on taking a break from the spotlight after these 7 years. The Fool at the bottom of the deck tells us that she wants a new start somewhere else; a breath of fresh air; begin a totally new adventure. I wouldn't be surprised of she were to open her own business and keep it more on the low from then on.

Liz || justice: An executive-type job, for sure. It can go as far as being a producer or creative director, but the point here is really being able to be in charge, dictate the rules, fight for fairness within the industry.

Leeseo || the sun: She's likely to stay as an idol. The Sun talks a lot about a child-like energy, bright, youthful, and a position in the spotlight… that's basically the idol role to a T.

So in love with the world rewatching Infinity Train. If you haven't seen it, each season has a young protagonist find themselves aboard the train trying to process their complicated real-world emotions. Some of them include an onion-loving girl that's an aspiring game developer trying to work through her parents divorce, another character whose origin I won't spoil who everyone headcanons as nonbinary, the leader of a child gang now trying to make up for her past mistakes, and a pair of childhood friends whose bond over music and their racial identity is being tested by their different life goals. There's only 4 seasons and they're short. It's a sci-fi cartoon. It's creative. It's so good. It's SO GOOD.

I'm pirating it rn like the creators recommended bc it's only available to stream on like, Prime and the reuploads of it are so buried by garbage results in search engines. I had to go to reddit of all places for a link :(

It shouldn't be this hard to watch such an amazing show, I hate corporate mergers. Conglomeration is like that movie The Blob. Media corporations just keep absorbing things and dissolving the little remaining bits of life that don't profit them.
