Rewatching RWBY for the 180000th time and when Qrow's dying from poison he mutters "she's not coming Tai" and like

I am under the impression that Qrow has never done anything wrong in his entire life and I love him but

Summer went missing after a mission with Raven. And Raven opened a portal (one of allegedly three) to get there. It wasn't to Tai. Or Yang.

Qrow was there. And I don't think Tai has ever forgiven him.

so many people out here saying Neil lied about going to California, but low-key I assumed it was more of a "didn't ask" type situation.

Even Kevin says "we knew who he was meeting, so we assumed he was going to Baltimore."

Neil is the king of "ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies".

Andrew wasn't angry because he didn't care that Neil had lied. Because he technically didn't, and Andrew lives on black and white and technicalities.

thinking about jeremy hitting rock bottom his freshman year, losing so much in one disastrous night, the repercussions of which would continue to haunt him for years. thinking about jeremy spiralling so bad cody said they “really thought we were going to lose him for a while there.” cat saying the right therapist can be “life changing”, using jeremy as an example. thinking about how bad jeremy’s crash out must have been, understandably; thinking about his family continuing to blame him for noah’s death—from the coldness of annalise, to the outright antagonism of bryson, to joshua ignoring him for years. the wilshires doing everything in their power to cover up what happened at the banquet rather than lending an ounce of support to a boy who had lost his brother in terrible circumstances, because jeremy was there, because it was so much easier to blame him for all of it. coldblooded, if you ask me. jeremy needed help, not damage control.

thinking about jeremy having probably the worst year of his life, having the opposite of emotional support from his family, and still somehow coming out of it a better person. thinking of all the work he put in to be better and succeeding—i’d rather die than ever be that person again. believe me. despite the hostility of his family system, despite being blamed for the fallout, despite the guilt and heartbreak that “nearly destroyed him”. still jeremy managed to build a new life for himself out of the wreckage, going so far as to be captain of the trojans, with a team who respect and admire him. still he managed to come out of it with such a capacity for kindness and goodness and lifting the people around him up.

thinking about jeremy continuing to be the human embodiment of sunshine despite living in such a cold home that was never forgiving or warm to him. jeremy knox, you will always be loved by me.

I've been thinking about this for a couple of days but there's something so beautiful about how from the very beginning, Siffrin is loved.

In the final time loop, after Siffrin has said horrible things to his family, they still go after him. They still go to rescue their friend. Their family. They still say how they want to stay with Siffrin and everyone else.

There was never a need for all the friend quests. There was never a need for Siffrin to solve all of their problems. He never needed to be useful. Because there was already a long journey before the start of the game, the start of the loops. And on that journey these characters grew to know and care for each other.

Siffrin was always loved.

Wymack was ready to propose to Kayleigh, but choose to leave to not overstep Kayleigh boundaries. Wymack called Kayleigh to know if Kevin was his and was ready to be a dad, but she said no so Wymack let it go. He sees Kayleigh everytime he looks at Kevin.

Betsy developed an unnoticed way to call Andrew's attention when he is going anxious and trying to hurt himself. That way he stops and nobody notices.

Andrew accepted joining PSU because it was Aaron's opportunity to study medicine and became the doctor their mother couldn't believe he could be.

Aaron was able to see through Andrew's denial about his feelings for Neil. Because he knew his brother ticks, expressions and mannerisms better than he let it show.

my toxic aftg trait is my ability to ship kevin with absolutely anybody. kevneil? doomed childhood acquaintances to strangers to lovers pipeline is real. kandrew? they literally kept each other alive. it doesn’t get more romantic than that. kevjean? probably the most tragic relationship in the books, they make me insane. kevjere? give that man a golden retriever boyfriend! kevaaron? MY crackship. fuck it, i even see the kevnicky and kevallison vision. case in point, i will literally be happy with him dating anyone besides his canonical girlfriend

Taiyang Xiao Long is a bad parent.

Tai is a pretty bad dad. Not Jacques Schnee, but there’s some real issues to be considered. Some of his reasons for this are understandable, not necessarily his fault and it doesn’t make him a bad person, but it does make him a bad parent. And yes he loves his daughters and they love him, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t not a bad parent.

For one: the parentification of Yang.

When Summer dies he is paralysed by grief. It’s said he just shuts down, and this does happen. Grief does that and hits different people differently. None the less, Yang was younger than ten and looking after herself, Ruby and probably him as well. Not to mention she sneaks off with Ruby to find Raven and they would have died if Qrow hadn’t saved them. Yang was left picking up the pieces after Summer died.

Yang still has trauma from this, and from (as is implied) continuing to be a key figure and parent in Ruby’s life. Ruby mentions several times that Yang raised her (as well as them both referring to Qrow as a role model and mentor more than Taiyang). Yang did a lot of raising herself and raising her sister when she was a child herself. Its very heavily implied that even once he was past his grief, he had stepped back as a parent and was very busy with his teaching.

Again, and I cannot emphasise this enough, it’s not necessary his fault and it doesn’t make him evil, but it still had impacts on his kids that lasted to adulthood. It was still bad parenting.

For two: staying in Patch.

This one annoys me more.

When Ruby left to go to Haven and he didn’t go after her, that made sense, Yang still needed help and Qrow was able to go after her. Fine.

But then Yang left. Yang went after Ruby and Qrow, and he stayed behind. Knowing about Salem, knowing what was at Haven, knowing what was at risk, he didn’t go after his kids or help, he stayed behind. Despite having been a part of Ozpin’s inner circle, despite knowing what these kids, his kids, are heading towards, he stayed at home.

And before anyone says ‘he’s retired’ or ‘he’s a teacher’ it’s mentioned he was a teacher and it makes sense that Summer died he chose to stay home and be with the kids. However, once the kids are both at Beacon he starts taking missions again. And this is fate of the world stuff. He could have gone with them, but he stayed in Patch with his gardening and his sunflowers. Yet again, it seems he’s happy to leave his kids to manage themselves, this is a reoccurring pattern.

In conclusion:

He loves his daughters, and they love him. He tries to do what’s best for them, however, his actions had a lasting negative impact on his daughters. He neglects them in his grief and leaves his eldest to raise his youngest and it’s suggested several times that even when he recovers from his grief, this pattern of behaviour continues. He is a good person, a huntsman, and loves his kids, but he’s still a bad parent.

And it makes him a very interesting character. I think this is better than a two dimensional ‘good parent’. It drives and influences Ruby and Yang as people, somewhat influences Qrow, shapes all their relationships. It’s a very real, messy family dynamic.

TLDR- he loves his kids but his actions negatively impact them in ways that last into adulthood. They’re a messy family, they do love each other, but even considering outside factors, the end result is that he was a bad parent to Yang and Ruby.

loved how when eah was still airing there was an actual campaign on voting for who would be thronecoming queen. like raven, apple, cupid and blondie were actual choices you could vote for on the eah website. then,,, they just quietly hid the fact there's no voting for thronecoming king. there's no other choice other than daring that's it. can you imagine the dance after the vote had been revealed.

daring and apple are great friends but there's no romance between them so their dance is just them performing another waltz routine they've been dancing since they were kids. snow even sends proffesional videographers to film the thing so it can be used for futher pr for apple.

raven and daring is just awkward since they don't interact much and after the required king and queen dance they split off to hang with their own friends. their last interaction was raven asking if he wrote her a love poem and raven's embarrassment is off the charts. daring already forgot about the incident.

blondie and daring is blondie trying to get the dance over as soon as possible because she just learned about the greatest scoop ever (like what do you mean headmaster grimm cursed his own brother and hid him under the school!!!) and she wants to finish her report on it so their dance is over pretty quick. luckily blondie and daring are both friends so he isn't offended by it. meanwhile grimm is trying to bribe the mirrorblog owners to ban blondie's account before she could post her exposé. it doesnt work.

cupid and daring is just unstoppable force vs immovable object. they dont interact that much but because of daring's charmingness he accidentally breaks a lot of hearts at school and cupid's radio show is full of students crying about him. their dance is half cupid trying to strangle him for giving her so much work and half daring trying to charm her so she'd forgive him and failing. the dance ends in a petty slapfight and daring agrees that he owes cupid a few favors for the extra work he's caused. cupid mostly cashes in these favors so he'd fly her, briar and hopper on legend to parties and concerts after curfew. (thus daring's life as the pink squad's chaffeur begins)

Ignoring the Jerejean of it all for a moment, I think Jean saying "Fuck what I deserve, what about what I want?" Is such a big turning point in his path to healing, because he's spent the last book and a half repeating the idea that's been drilled into him his whole life—that he deserves every horrible thing that's been done to him—and now finally, after Rhemman forces him to admit he didn't deserve it and he can finally fully break down and release the years of pent up hurt and agony, he's finally able to decide in that moment that it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks he deserves.
