gender envy bracket is so weird (to me personally, not in general) because the only person towands whom I feel any sort of gender envy rn is Neo (whenever I see his half-naked photos)... why can't I just be sexy masc gremlin from the start, why do I have to take a long route...

38 for the Ask for OTPs
thank you so much for sending this one in! :D
[from this list of otp questions]
38. Who is more sexually experimental? Who’s more vanilla?
this feels like the age old question lmao is obi-wan a prude or is he a slut and is anakin a no sex before marriage kinda guy or did he sleep around
honestly i love all combinations of answers to that question and i really don't have a preference when it comes to regular, canon obikin
i guess for this specific one about what kind of sex they prefer, i tend to sort obi-wan into being a bit more vanilla with anakin - not because he doesn't have the experience or desire for rougher sex, but because i'm definitely in a huge phase of loving the guilt and shame and angsty emotions obi-wan could have when bedding his former padawan. tying him up or spanking him (hurting him??) on top of taking his innocence would be far too much! meanwhile, anakin wanting everything his master can give him and also everything his master would allow him to take feels pretty on brand - not necessarily in a dark or violent way but certainly in a 'more more more more please more' sort of way which leads me to think of anakin as being more experimental than obi-wan:
"Master, I love what we've been doing," Anakin declares, dropping down onto Obi-Wan's lap and effectively pushing the datapaad out of his way. "Really, I do."
"Oh?" Obi-Wan's tone screams disinterest, but his hands find their way to Anakin's hips all the same. "I didn't realize it was time for my annual review."
Anakin scowls. After about a year of being something more with Obi-Wan, he's realize that, all told--he quite likes him when he's so breathless from kisses that he doesn't have the wherewithal for sardonic quips.
Well, he likes him in all his different forms and variations, of course. Even at his most snarky, he's still Obi-Wan Kenobi and so still someone Anakin loves with his entire being.
"In bed," Anakin adds. "I love what we've been doing in bed. I really do."
Obi-Wan blinks. "Well. Good then, I suppose."
"But I was wondering," Anakin says quickly, before Obi-Wan can steer the conversation in some other direction. "If we were ever going to, you know."
Obi-Wan blinks again. "Going to...." he asks with a furrow of his eyebrows.
"Turn the lights on," Anakin finishes. Now they're both blushing. This is by far both the silliest and most important conversation they've ever had.
"Oh," Obi-Wan says. His eyes have become fixed on a point over Anakin's shoulder. "Is that very important to you?"
"Well, it's just that I was talking to Vos, mostly by accident, and we started talking about you, the only thing we really have in common--"
"You're both Jedi masters, you've both raised padawans, you both enjoy romantic literature, you're both incredible pains in my ass--" Obi-Wan begins to list, eyes flashing flinty.
"Exactly," Anakin interrupts. "We were talking about pains in your ass, you know, and he mentioned that he once ran into you at a...a kink club. In the lower levels. And it made me realize that, you know. When we have sex, we don't even turn the lights on usually, and I thought maybe that's just how you were, but not if you went to--to sex clubs as a senior padawan!"
He says all of this quite fast and it's only when he's finished that he realizes he's breathing hard and that his eyes are a bit wet.
"So if it's not you, then it's--it's me," he adds. "Like maybe you don't--actually want me."
Obi-Wan blinks and then his hand is on Anakin's chin, tilting it up to meet his eyes. "Of course it's you," he says. "Of course everything I do and feel for you is different from everything I've ever done and felt in the past. It's incomparable."
Anakin's eyebrows knit together. That's quite a nice thing to hear, but it does little to address his present concerns. "But what if I want the lights on?" he asks, letting his hands rest on Obi-Wan's shoulders. "And like. To tie you up some time. Or to be spanked or something."
Obi-Wan hums and his hand moves to stroke down his hair, tuck a curl behind his ear. "Then let's compromise. What if we start with the lamp on and progress up to the overhead light, hm?"

I just adore the way Paul's visions are presented in the new movies.
The way it is never quite clear if they are symbolic, if they show possibilities. Both? Neither? Do they all come true?
The way that the people shown in them aren't even necessarily representing themselves.
Like how many of the visions in Part 1 later on in Part 2 get flipped around.
There is the obvious one with Chani taking Paul's place in the fight sequence from his vision, but there are so many more:
Chani holding the bloody knife vs. Paul after the duel with Feyd
Chani leading him through the desert and showing him the coming battle vs. Jessica leading him through the desert towards death and destruction (both wearing flowy white gowns)
Chani whispering his name vs. Alia doing so post water
Kinda interesting how much Chani, his lover, ends up being a stand-in for either his mother or sister.
Jamis killing Paul and holding his hand as he dies vs Paul being the one to kill and comfort Jamis
Chani stabbing Paul/betraying him vs. Paul being the one to betray Chani
Chani being exposed to a nuclear blast, and her face being severely burnt vs [redacted]
It makes them disorienting and confusing, and they are meant to be, Paul is also never quite sure what they mean for most of the movies.
But all of this changes once he drinks the water of life.
Prior to the water, they were always accompanied by an orange-gold glare and intercut with brief flashes of various imagery (fire, a bloody hand, expanding shadows, etc).
But as the visions themselves tell us: to see the future clearly, he needs to know the past.
So, once he gains access to his ancestral memory, his visions become clear.
They are no longer undercut with flashes of other images. Both the vision of the ocean in the desert and the memory of baby Jessica and the Baron are shot in a way that is undistinguishable from the rest of the movie. Before this, either the editing, the flares, etc. sth was always helping us differentiate between vision and reality. But from this point, they appear as real as the present.
Also, the fact that Alia is both the first person he sees after the water and the first to actively talk to him through the visions. She is also the first one (since Leto) who doesn't seem to put conditions on her love.
All of this makes me super excited to see how Denis is going to approach Paul's visions in Dune Messiah, knowing how important his experience of them are for his character.

(11.28.23)
Living in a dying body,
Stranded on a dying world,
What shall the dying do?
Grind our bleach-white coral bones,
Drown in rising water, our limbs too weak to tread?
How about this instead?
On New Year's Eve, my father, a doctor of the weather said:
"I believe in the resilience of our atmosphere."
And thus began my year,
With a body set for ambush storms, and unprepared to take my cover,
Hopeful, kicking at the knees that wouldn't last the summer.
But if Dad can see the damning data and give us yet our chance,
Then I will face the fates that are written in my scans,
Feed the sturgeon lunch at the museum,
Bend slowly to the waterline and whisper this to them:
"I believe in our resilience, too."

I really hope Taylor wont loose that 'forever love' belief post joe. I really hope she will still believe in invisible strings and golden love and that she can indeed build forever with someone else. She has alluded previously that she wants family kids and marriage someday(even though she doesn't know when).
But at the same time it must suck a lot. Starting from the bottom. That effort to trust someone,be that vulnerable, love them fully well considering how it could end. Plus everytime she goes on a date people will talk. I can't even imagine it. We got so used to joe breakup wasn't even in our mind.
i hope she won't either, considering she really never has, not totally, even after the amount of pain and mistreatment and scrutiny she's endured, and (to our knowledge, i will say this is subject to change only if we ever learn differently) joe was so unlike those relationships that badly hurt her - maybe somehow she can hold onto the belief that she'll find it anew. she's a romantic at heart. i saw a post mentioning the red prologue and the connection to daylight, and how precious that was and how proud we were of her, and that's still true. she did learn to nurture a love that wasn't burning red, but golden. she knows what it is now, and what she's looking for and what she needs. it's definitely hard because the idea of falling out of love or simply growing apart from the person you thought would be in your life forever and dreamed of a future with is terrifying, and like you said, it takes intense vulnerability and time to learn to trust and love someone so wholly (like idk if i would be capable of this!), and that's understandably even more difficult for her given her place in the public eye, but one day it may find her again. i will say whenever the day comes that she feels up to trying, i wish her privacy and peace because the media is going to be horrendous about it and i'm already tired on her behalf. the idea of having to start over at square one after building a shared life, after the deep fears she had of losing this, is also just really daunting, and i think that's what a lot of fans are feeling a bit overwhelmed by conceptually. the loss of this particular love, the wish for her happiness, and the worry for all the tough aspects of the situation. we weren't expecting that sudden drastic change, and it's possible they weren't entirely either. she's a strong person and she'll be okay eventually, but that doesn't mean the process is simple or easy. and i hope nobody rushes her or pressures her and she can take as much time to mend and care for herself as possible in the midst of all the artistic work we also know she's focused on (and that work may be her lifeline for a while, and that's okay too).
