Me explaining why I like a character:

Argyle never gets frustrated with Steve when he doesn’t understand something. He doesn’t roll his eyes, or give That Sigh. He explains things patiently, if a bit abstractly, and when Steve is way off base Argyle runs with it. Is Vecna a vampire? Whoa that would be wild, man! Do you think he can’t have garlic? We could just take him out with a gnarly garlic pie, my dude!

the way you're seeing into my mind.... argyle being really soft with steve and taking the time to make sure he doesn't feel stupid when he's confused is something i've considered AT LENGTH (specifically in dms with @himbohohoharringtxn who has the unfortunate luck of being on the receiving end of Most of my argyle thoughts fdjghkdfj)

i would like to preface this by saying that i am firmly in "argyle and steve are both genuinely smart" territory. i think steve is very neurodivergent coded (i see the arguments for adhd/autism/dyslexia/ocd and as someone who might be autistic but is diagnosed with the other three....i see these arguments and i agree on all fronts) and there's also the head trauma of it all, though that's not what this is about. he's not fucking dumb, he just needs things broken down and explained to him in a very specific way. nothing wrong with that!

as far as argyle is concerned - we've literally seen him in action noticing small details no one else has(one of my fav parallels between them), which ends up being the reason the cali group finds nina and el. he's not fucking dumb either, just delivered to us as a comic relief stoner character with little dimension because the duffers need to be fucking stopped

BUT ANYWAY! you're so right! argyle would see the way steve sometimes gets brushed off and spoken over. the rest don't mean it to be hurtful and steve tries not to show that it does sometimes sting (because it's really not that big of a deal to him and it's not like they're being outright mean) but he would ABSOLUTELY "yes and-" whatever steve's off the wall question or idea was, if anything just to make him laugh, relieve some of the tension. AND IT WORKS is the thing.

it's not just, "duuuude, what if we just lure vecna into the sun? he'll be TOAST in five seconds flat, no fighting necessary. nancy, you can put the gun down, we're gonna hurl garlic cloves at him with a slingshot!" in one fell swoop, argyle is 1. making sure steve feels heard and not spoken over; 2. acknowledging steve's input and effort in a way that, let's be honest, the others don't do very often; 3. putting a smile on the group's faces for a while because fuck they're kids in a stressful situation and need a laugh; 4. putting himself in the line of fire so the others can rag on him instead.

argyle would do this when they aren't even dating yet and steve definitely would not be normal about it, he'd be smiling so big and soft and then argyle would catch his eye and smile back and they'd have this little quiet moment between them amidst all the chaos and dread.

after they're dating though? oh, they'd be INSUFFERABLE. they'd be such a pda couple, with the ridiculous pet names("what the fuck did you just call me?" "don't worry about it, my lil sweet potato pie."), and the open flirting until their friends are fake-retching, the whole nine yards. argyle is hanging off of steve's back with his arms around his waist and not even acknowledging it as he makes his argument to the rest of the group that, "no, no, listen. steve is onto something here, i just know. what if-"

and when they're alone, it'd be less of the theatrics and silliness and more of the gentle patience. they're both smart in really different ways and when argyle gets something steve doesn't and steve is getting a little frustrated about it, he'd take his hand or pull him close and just distract him with a little bit of affection to get him to cool down because he knows being frustrated isn't going to help steve figure out whatever it is. conversely, steve does the same when he's trying to explain something to argyle - though he's less likely to get as frustrated when confused, and more likely to pretend to take longer to get it than he actually does because listening to steve explain a subject he's knowledgeable about is fucking hot, can you blame him? they're just soft with each other, okay

One difference between Harry Potter and Percy Jackson (the characters) is that Harry marvels at every new instance of magic. But after Percy learns about the magic system, he just stops giving a shit. Once he learns that magic is real, he is surprised by absolutely nothing and does not question the irrelevant stuff, like Annabeth's invisibility hat, or how the fuck a ballpoint pen can turn into a sword.

My big sisters boyfriend, I love more than anything. Would include me in their dates and buy me ice cream. Probably get high together on shit flora grew.(9/10) minus point for the lack of content with them.

My mom and dad. Never got over them. Will always and forever love them. Had everything enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, only protec her (season 3). Angst, love, connection, and slowly falling in love. (11/10)

Tecna x Timmy

The relationship I want. My neurodivergent nerds. They fulfill my Demisexual heart with love. They struggle with communicating feelings but still try. First love, puppies just stumbling about. They get excited about talking about their interests. Appreciate each other. Compliments and heart eyes. Timmy is the definition of That's my WIFE! While Tecna is fight me mode when you insult her soft baby boy boyfriend. (9/10) One minus point for the senses drama in season 2.

Bloom x Sky

Idk, man. I think it started out pretty sweet. They became friends to lovers. Both are too shy and maybe unsure of their feelings for each other. Going on walks with the dog. Supporting each other and listening to the problems. Love that so much. Then the drama kicks in. He is engaged?? He is actually a prince??? LOVE the drama (not for my girl bloom. I love her and will fight you), but for ME, for my angsty self *chef kiss*. The scene where she walks through Magix when she makes the decision to leave, the heartbreak, the angst. Ughhh sooo good. Can't really remember a lot of the relationship in the other seasons. Although I do think they have sweet moments. Like in season 2, when they are on vacation and Sky stands watch to protect the girls and tells Bloom not to worry, he'll wake her first if something happens. Calling each other soulmates kinda cringe, kinda sweet. Overall average straight couple. (5.6/10)

Musa x Riven

I really don't wanna get heat for that one, but my God, adult me, is not happy. My teenage self, tho 👀. Loved the angst, drama, bad boy and girl in love, him getting together with the 'wrong' girl and then he transforms into the hero and comforts and falls in love with the 'right' girl. Love it! Season 1 really fed us well. Would applause the difference and complexity in all the relationships, BUT then they really went back to moody edge emo boy in crop tops. Bro. Riven could have been the best character and then they ruined him slowly building up to fuck him over in season 4. I could hardly watch that shit show. They had their moments, but yeah...(6/10).

My current hyperfixation is Lab Rats.

Not the animal, but the show. You know the one. Leo Dooley has just moved in with his Step-Dad, Donald Davenport, and discovers a secret lab in the basement, where he finds three kids with incredible powers that they call Bionics. He forms a bond with them and brings them out to the normal world for the first time in their lives, which sets up four seasons of wild shenanigans, villains, and self discovery.

And a constant laugh track.

I always thought that Lab Rats had such an amazing concept. The idea that someone made three regular people super with advanced technology, leaving room for morals about self identity and family along the way; I eat crap like this up every time. But Lab Rats was very limited in what it could do because it was a Disney Sitcom. There was no room for character growth that lasted more than an episode or discussions about the trauma that would come with being raised by a narcissist in a lab, never knowing the light of day until your late teens. The neurodivergent and queer coding was never brought up, and just over all, darker themes could not be explored.

So, Tumblr, I've decided to pull a Thanos and do it myself.

I want to make a story about what the show couldn't. I want to write about how the Davenports' relationship will be effected after they meet other people and learn what normal family dynamics are like. I want to write about Donald's emotional neglect and narcissism and how this would be the main key towards Douglas' redemption. I want to write about Adam, Bree, and Chase, exploring their genders, sexualities, masculinity and femininity. But, most of all, I want Donald Davenport to face consequences for his actions.

You may be asking, "Person, why announce this to Tumblr when you can just post the story to Ao3 and/or Wattpad and be done with it?"

Because I wanted to ask the people what they want.

This story isn't just self indulgence, it's for the fandom, whom has already done so much to add more depth to the Lab Rats world. So, I want to know what you want to see. Here is what I have planned to add so far:

1. Chase has D.I.D

I am a firm believer that Spike isn't just some Bionic that Douglas gave Chase. I believe that because of the practically endless trauma that Chase has gone through(going on missions to save the world and Adam's abuse) he developed a D.I.D. system and Spike is the protector. I know that people with D.I.D. usually have multiple alters, but it's not impossible to only have one. Or I may add more. Let me know what you think.

2. Adam, Bree, and Chase are triplets.

They still have the same birth order, they're just triplets now.

3. The main three have less bionics

Oh my god, these kids are so overpowered. To help fill some plot holes, here are the bionics they're going to have:

Adam: Super Strength(his limit is a ton)

Blast Wave(but he becomes

so he saves it for emergencies)

I'm planning on making Daniel WAY more involved in the plot and Douglas having another daughter. I don't have a name for her yet, so I'm gonna call her E for now. My plan is that after Adam, Bree, and Chase are taken from him, Douglas and Krane just relocate and make more kids. Daniel and E are definitely going to be there, but I might add more. Daniel's bionics are going to stay the same, and I'm deciding between giving E geo-leaping or molecularkinesis. The main purpose for the two of them is to further the I-Am-Your-Father arc, as I like to call it, and to open up new perspectives on Douglas as a father figure.

5. Douglas and Krane are/were in a relationship

Every scene with them is just them being an old married couple.

6. Mighty Med and Lab Rats existing in the same universe is a lot bigger to the plot

I don't want to reveal how I'm gonna execute this, but trust me, it'll be there.

7. Adam has ADHD and Dyslexia

After watching the show fiftyleven times, I can say with confidence that Adam is not dumb. He has a short attention span, sure, but he can think quick on his feet and is actually quite clever. He may not excel in the classroom, but unlike what a lot of parents will tell you, grades are not a good reflection of someone's intelligence or skills. And while Adam's spelling skills are below average, this doesn't usually occur to someone in their late teens unless they a) didn't have access to a good education, or b) they are lazy and incredibly spoiled, and Adam is none of these things. But, something that neurodivergent people tend to do in situations like these is uplay their "dumbness" to the point where it's OBVIOUSLY a joke, except it's not. They just don't want people to think they're actually that dumb.

I wouldn't put it past Donald to just label Adam as dumb and not get him assessed.

8: Bree also has ADHD

Bree also seems to have trouble concentrating and waiting, but where Adam hyperfixates for months at a time and is innatentive, Bree's hyperfixations last for a few days at most before she moves on to the next thing.

9: Chase is bisexual

Do I even have to explain this one?

10: Chase has autism

Listen, this man does not get social cues and info dumps like crazy.

And last, but certainly not least,

11: Krane's story is going to go beyond the every Disney Villain motivation of wanting to take over the world

I always wished they had done more with Krane than the simple, "I wanna take over the world," crap that most Disney villains do. I wanted more lore, more backstory, more motivation. Now, I'm finally getting it.

My Fav Characters (Haikyuu Extended edition)

Okay so i'm gonna do three teams: nekoma, aoba johsai, and inarizaki

Nekoma:

1)Kenma: look at him. i rest my case. NO he's actually so cute and smart and there's not many other reasons he's literally my little baby and i would love and care for him (but i'm not cleaning up after anybody he has money we can hire someone. i might cook through)

2) Kuroo: I don't think i have to explain this honestly. I don't think of him as some seductive force or "rizz master" as the kids say but he's certainly attractive and i like his passion. also idk i feel like he's a neurodivergent nerd who just happens to be kinda handsome and why would i not like that

3) Kai. Handsome (probably black) man. He's calm and approachable, slightly above average height which is good for me bc i'm short, but he's driven. He's not to be left behind are miscounted. Nekoma definitely needs him on the team. He's sweet and reliable. HE NEEDS MORE LOVE AND I WILL GIVE IT TO HIM. also i like gardening to an extent so having someone who is an arborist in my life allows me to dabble

4) Yaku: He's yaku I mean. one of the best liberos in the game. (why do the best ones not come baaack) love my short king he is literally life to nekoma just like the other three and i love his chaotic energy and defensiveness on and off the court. don't let them make you think he's violent lev be starting with him. also for a volleyball player he has some nice kicks

5)Fukunaga Shohei: When i first saw his eyes i knew i'd love him. his design is literally so cute and friendly and he's one of the most deliberately cat-like and it works for him. I love that he's always making jokes that no one gets or only he laughs at because that is soooo me and i feel like we could parallel play together so well

Aoba Johsai:

1) Hajime Iwaizumi: I'm sure this came as a surprise to absolutely no one. This is the love of my life right here and he's in my top 3 haikyuu men which is a feat of it's own. Never in my life have i loved a character with such little screen time as i love iwaizumi. Just thinking about him telling me to call him hajime?? wow. he's so cool, he's sweet and only mean to his bff yet the love between the two of them is undeniable. he has a huge heart and huge arms that he can put around me. I feel like he'd kinda be a little shy about someone he's dating and have a proud smile but also faint blush. He definitely gets women easily but i feel like he'd turn them down politely(for me! he's saving himself for me)

2) Matsukawa Issei: If you're surprised i mean i get it but i don't. Never let them tell you Issei is an unloved character. If he has 100 fans i'm one of them, if he has 10 fans, i'm one of them if he has 1 fan it's me and if he has no fans I am dead but take me to his mortuary pls so i can see him one last time. He had me a little interested after he scared hinata off that one time but someone else piqued my curiousity a little more and now i read any fanfic of him i can get my hands on and i love my relaxed king.

3) Oikawa Tooru: a master of his craft, charismatic, petty. One of the greatest "villains" of all time (this is a joke based off of what i see on twitter all the time) Oikawa has all his opponents stressed and even his enemies want him on their side. There's no denying his skill or game play. The fact that he could just come in seamlessly to teams "above" his skill level while in high school should prove it to you.

4) Kentaro Kyotani: His design is literally insane and I feel like he's probably not as aggressive as one would think. To me it feels like he bottles up his rage until he can play volleyball which may lead him to do reckless things on the court but he's undeniably skilled and a good guy. This might be me projeting but i feel like he's neurodivergent and he gets a bit overstimulated/understimulated and that's where the anger comes from but he can be shocked out of that state like with yahaba. It was clear he never meant to negatively affect the team he just got swept up

5) Akira Kunimi: To me he's like a mashup of kenma and tsukishima with a bit of his own flavoring in it and i like both of those characters. He's dedicated to volleyball but only while playing volleyball. He's obviously smart/clever and he's just kind of overall adorable and hard to hate. He sticks out to me even though i don't think that's what he's trying to do

Inarizaki: (changing the ranking slightly from earlier)

1) Osamu Miya: He came in the game, he conquered with his twin brother, he served looks, attitude, wasn't the "cool twin" nor the more subdued twin even though he called "less" attention to himself than Atsumu. Most anime twins are either the exact same until you can tell the difference or they're like polar opposites. Osamu looked at that and kinda spit on it. They got their separate hair colors for individuality and then went about their business being too similar to not fight and different enough that there was no jealousy and osamu hung up the volleyball and made his own place in the restaurant industry. That's my baby right there

2) Shinsuke Kita: I was gonna make a volleyball joke but it fell flat. Anyway Kita is always serving looks. If anyone wants to look at a character similar design wisesto that misogynist naoya from jjk here you go. Kita was the responsible upperclassmen/older bro whatever you want to call it but it was organic and natural and despite not being a starter, the way he ran the team proved that he was invaluable and when they showed that to him and he cried? He's such a sweet character and i feel like he has some hidden mischief i'd like to be a part of. also once again sometimes i get the urge to farm or garden so i'm just gonna be like "give me a task shinsuke"

3)Aran Ojiro: I'm rooting for everybody black. Okay anyway look at him. just look and appreciate all you're getting to look at. Okay now look at his timeskip goatee. alright are you back on earth yet? I must have a thing for aces/hitters. We love an emotionally intelligent man who is yet another heart of the team i mean without kita an ojiro where would inarizaki be? He knows his shit, he's one of the top five aces of the country, he's gorgeous and he's sweet. need i say more? Should i?

4)Suna Rintaro: He's so pretty i would be scared to bring my s/o around him (i'm joking why would i be scared to bring him around himself) I feel like we'd vibe and i'd tell him i love his eyes and he'd say he loves mine and then we'd be messy together while somehow making sure to stay out of it. He's smart and analytical and i feel like he could give me a run for my money in terms of noticing and knowing stuff (i'm literally psychic and i love gossip) also i love that he's just slightly scared of kita

5)Astumu Miya: just cause he's at the bottom of this list doesn't mean i don't love him. I would prefer him as a bff or brother in law if i'm being totally honest but his character is way too cool to not make it on a top 5 list. He serves (literally) he has good chemistry with a couple people) he's a bit petty, he's pretty, 100% ND and i think that could explain how his passion is both intriguing and scary. He's 100% misunderstood and mischaracterized but he could be my clingy best friend i just wouldn't let him teach me volleyball bc he'd be mean (accidentally ofc)

2.) lloyd is not the best treated character in terms of writing

this was another argument the aforementioned kai fans made which is just objectively wrong. in season 11, the writing officially moved hands from the hageman brothers to a more ragtag group of shifting writers headed by bragi something i forgot his last name. this era of ninjago (11-16, dubbed "the wildbrain era", as wildbrain is the company that animated it). this era features a heavy heavy amount of side characters introduced in each season. lloyd gets screentime in the wildbrain era! ...talking to the side characters. lloyd was consistently pushed away from the main characters and instead made to interact with random side characters so they could talk about their life story at them. while i agree that lloyd was definitely treated better than kai... he's not the best treated.

3 and 4.) jay is the most liked, but the worst characterized

gonna keep this one brief. around the wildbrain era's start, jay started to be voice acted with a higher voice and began to be characterized as more of a ditzy little smoofy mitzy [insert gay ass tumblr words]. his characterization is legitimately fucking painful but he consistently has the most shit happening to him personally in the wildbrain era. fuck you jay

5.) nya is the only character with a character arc

by definition of a character arc, nya's the only character who has a full one. it starts in season 5 and ends in season 7. it's not great, but it exists. if you are talking about ninjago and you say "[x character]'s arc" and the name you say isn't nya, you are wrong

6 and 7.) the neurodivergent representation sucks

jay is just written to be quirky and silly imo but i think it's possible that they leaned into adhd when they saw people saying he looked like he had it. honestly though, i don't think he portrays a lot of adhd symptoms or experiences canonically other than being hyper and possibly experiencing hyperfixations. doesn't mean you can't hc him as having adhd, i personally do, i just don't see him as canonically being an adhd haver and if it was intentional/is canon it's not great

there is an episode in season one that starts with jay calling zane weird and all of the other ninja agree that he just doesn't fit in. the plot list of the episode is that zane is actually a robot. so it's okay that he's weird because he's a robot, but if he were a human... that'd be weird. he'd just be weird. even if you intend to take "robotness" as an extended metaphor for autism, it kind of just others autistic people and also kind of implies that it's okay to discriminate against people if they're weird and not explicitly diagnosed with autism.

8.) jaya inhibits nya

i'm also gonna keep this brief because this is a show-wide problem but every "jaya" charged season is like objectively awful for nya as a character. in the wildbrain era, nya actively has to act like a different person when interacting romantically with jay

I definitely have had some pretty strong Harbinger brainrot over the past few weeks (Dottore, Pierro, Pantalone and Capitano especially), but as always Ayato and Zhongli hold a very special place in my heart!! Yae Miko and Tighnari also got me going a bit feral right now ngl

2. Who are your least favourite character(s) at the moment?

There are definitely a few characters who I can't stand (female pyro vision wielders---) but I feel like that's more to do with how they've been written in the game, I feel like I could be convinced to like a lot of them once I've read some good headcanons and such!

My appearance headcanons for Capitano are definitely right up there - if MHY disappoints/diverts a lot I think I've come up with enough original content and ideas for him to just make my version a fully fledged OC.

I'm also pretty fond of a lot of my neurodivergent headcanons for certain characters (OCD Pantalone isn't something I've seen around but it's definitely something I incorporate into a lot of my writing with him).

OH ALSO Adepti being empaths !! That's a very special headcanon I hold dear to my heart, I dunno why I came up with it but I really really like it, especially with Xiao.

6. Favourite headcanons belonging to other people?

I saw a Pyro Delusion Pantalone headcanon the other day that was really really super cool, I'd never even considered him having a delusion until I saw that and it vibed!!

Generally I enjoy any trans or ND headcanons for characters too, even if they don't line up with how I view them/characterise them it's really nice to see such a broad range of ideas for one character!

7. Do you have any self-ships (romantic or platonic)?

So many. So so many. I have a variety of 'sonas' for various AUs/timelines (though the one that I've made the most content for is. An arranged marriage AU with Ayato jkdskjhgf) and I make a lot of varying content for them (which I probably won't be sharing here because I'm shy but just know. I love them.) with all different characters and different relationship dynamics, I've been shipping myself (or versions of) with fictional characters for years and it's a huge comfort to me and such a fun fun way to experiment with writing different scenarios and such!

8. Thoughts on alternate universes (AUs)? Any favourites?

I LOVE AUs so much i have about a million myself and I adore seeing the kinds of things others come up with !! A lot of my writing tends to be done in a non-canon AU where the events of the game havent/don't happen just to keep things simpler hfkjhsdgk

I'm always an enjoyer of modern AUs, but at the moment i'm holding a particular fondness for the 'Fatui adopt Kaeya AU', which lowkey may have slightly inspired the last fic i started working on ehe

9. If you were from Teyvat, where would you live?

Mondstadt!! It just seems chill and nice and there's such a wide variety of people there, the vibe seems accepting and laid back and it seems like lots of people from different walks of life congregate there! Failing that maybe Sumeru just because mmm pretty

10. What kind of Vision would you have?

Anemo, probably! That's the one i most commonly write my sonas with! Though I don't think I'd be entirely opposed to a Dendro vision in some cases too!!

12. Favourite fandom tropes/goofs?

One i always find funny is like. siblings with big age gaps getting along great (Albedo/Klee, Ayato/Ayaka, Jean/Barbara, etc) but ones closer in age constantly trying to MURDER each other (Diluc/Kaeya, and Aether/Lumine r the only ones i can think of rn).

I also love the found family tropes I see around, and the Nahida and Scara content I've seen recently have been top notch!

13. Least favourite fandom tropes/goofs?

It's a common thing with a lot of games and characters where the fandom reduces them down to a core trait or two and act like it's completely canon, or take certain lines and such out of context and base their entire characterisation off of that - on a surface level theyre silly and fun but when it's literally everywhere

A few i can think of off the top of my head are like 'senior citizen zhongli' where he's reduced to nothing but a bumbling old boomer and the whole 'stalker/obsessive ayaka' bit.

14. If you could change anything about one characters design, who/what would it be and why?

I think some of the adepti should have more non-human traits (xiao deserves horns tbh) and as a general statement i'd love to see characters with facial/body hair and more variety in body types or at least skin tones! I understand it's not exactly like realistic but it would be nice

there was also an interesting detail with Zhongli's design that was fixed - he wore his vision backwards! I think it was super neat and an interesting reference to the fact that it's not a real vision, but sadly they fixed it :(

15. What's your favourite voice line from the game?

I know a lot of people joke about Zhongli's idle lines being really annoying (and while hearing the oSmAnThUs WiNe line 8 times in just as many minutes can get really irritating) but i find them kind of comforting - I play in English and really enjoy the cadence of his voice, it's super comforting to me, so most of his lines are big faves - I also find his 'disliked gift' line super funny where he tries to redirect the player by telling them stories ashkjgf

I also like how Kaeya teases you for standing around (though it kinda makes me wanna flick him), and Tighnari's "who ate a poisoned mushroom this time?" join line is fun!

You know, I had heard there was another musical like Hamilton from the seventies called 1776, so I just went and looked up it's whole soundtrack, and I can safely say I think it's better than Hamilton in many ways.

Although the songs aren't the most catchy songs I've ever heard, they're still pretty good. Although I liked the few songs from Hamilton I did bother listening to, I found the songs from 1776 have more meaningful lyrics and delve into more dark topics.

Although I haven't seen either films movie adaptation, I can definitely say 1776 is far more historically accurate. 1776 doesn't hold back from discussing slavery and the facts that most everyone back then was at least slightly prejudiced. The song "molasses and rum" is proof of that. I've heard 1776 also deals with Thomas Jefferson being a slave owner far better than Hamilton does, although I can't back that claim up because I haven't seen footage with which to compare.

Finally, I'd just to mention that 1776 and Hamilton both have Main characters who are largely forgotten figures in US history: John Adams and Alexander Hamilton, respectively. The difference here is that John Adams is probably one of my favorite founder fathers, if only because both he and his son were abolitionists. Alexander Hamilton, however, was a slave owner and an elitist. Not exactly inspiring stuff, if you ask me.

I'm beginning to contemplate whether a post I saw on Reddit about masturbation acting as a stim has any truth to it. I say this because I'm beginning to look for explanations for my masturbation fixation/addiction/etc. I sometimes masturbate three times a day, something I myself consider abnormal.

Once you take into account my lack of sexual feelings towards anything other than writing (and sometimes photos in combination) alongside a fixation with reading erotica and making myself masturbate, and we might see why I don't truly want to chalk it all up to teenage libido. It very well could just be that, but the simplest solution is the hardest to accept, in my case.

"Where's the essay OP" Said no one, and yet here I am

Lampy isn't stupid, he's neruodivergent: a rushed-together masterpost

Disclaimer: I'm not a liscened medical professional but I'm neurodivergent who's close to many neurodivergent people so I know when certain traits strike me as very familiar... Also tblt is my comfort movie I've seen it probably over 100 times, not exaggerating, so if anyone here's an expert on it, it's me.

I'm only going by the first movie because while To The Rescue and Goes To Mars probably have evidence to back me up, I don't feel like sitting down to watch them as I don't have them as memorized as the original

Point #1: Lampy is arguably the most intelligent appliance in the movie

Honestly it apalls me that so many are convinced that Lampy is an idiot when he displays some of the most intelligent traits in the movie. I'll just list off some of the most important scenes that show this

1: When discussing a way to get to the city, Lampy comes up with plans that end up failing, true. But we should also consider that not only did Radio and Toaster come up with bad plans before deciding on the swivel chair, but 2/3 of Lampy's ideas involved the same mechanic: on something with wheels(yes the mattress had wheels for some reason) being powered by Kirby

2: "From here you can see the really big lamp!" This scene is simply due to the appliances being sheltered from the outside world. Lampy displays the same level of naive-ness as everyone else: Radio seems earnest in calling the sun a "really big lamp", and Kirby calls the grass "shag carpet". Lampy is not at a lower intelligence in this scene, he's exactly at the same level as everyone else

3: The scene with the storm really sells his intelligence. The appliances have a rudimentary understanding of electricity, most likely from being appliances, but Lampy displays an excelled level of understanding by sacrificing himself for the battery. He understands that batteries are powered by electricity, lightning is electricity, and by using himself as a lightning rod, he acts as the conductive metal to easily transfer this energy from the bolt to the battery. Technically this should have overcharged and fried the battery but we'll suspend disbelief for the sake of this movie.

4: He knew that stacking the appliances to roughly human height, creating a dark environment with ominous sounds, and putting Toaster at eye-level to scare the human with his own reflection... Again, this is an intelligent understanding of how to scare a human

5: It's unclear on whose idea it was to look up Rob in a phone book, however this shows that not only can Lampy read(most likely picked up from being Rob's reading light), ESPECIALLY when Toaster struggles to read, but also has an understanding of phone books, addresses, and finding humans based on family names. I cannot stress how intelligent this is for a sentient desk lamp

There's a few more minor examples, but these are the biggest cases. Lampy is intelligent.

Point #2: Lampy struggles with social cues and doesn't empathize as easily as others

My biggest point here is when people think neruodivergents are "dumb" for having trouble picking up on things like sarcasm when that just... isn't the case. A few notable examples include:

1: When Air Conditioner says "You're a real bright little lamp", Lampy doesn't pick up the sarcasm and thinks he's being complimented. Though he definitely shows a level of emotional intelligence because he looks to Toaster to confirm "hey I was complimented", sees they're still looking angry, and gets the hint that he was insulted without someone needing to explicitly tell him that, to which he then responds with "Heyyy >:("

2: Sometimes he's able to read the room and pick up on tones, but other times he shows a level of emotional density. Legitimately not knowing if Rob had returned even when seeing Blanky disappointed to the point of near tears... But then knowing "brains wouldnt hurt either" was a jab at their intelligence and reacting with appropriate annoyance... But also when Radio says "Things could be worse!", doesn't realize he's just saying that to make Toaster feel better and asks "How could they be worse?"

3: He bullies Blanky alongside Radio and the others, unclear if he's actually being a jerk or just "oh this is what everyone else is doing so this is the normal way to act", but he's legitimately confused when Toaster tries to explain why they're suddenly being nice to him. He doesn't get the "now I feel better" argument because his argument was "Well you were never this nice to him before". Even when Toaster tries to explain why it feels nice, it just doesn't click... until Toaster finds a way to explain that connects personally to Lampy's own emotional state. He has trouble empathizing until realizing "oh this is like this thing that I feel sometimes"

4: Something I've noticed when gathering evidence is that more than once, Lampy goes "Wow..." After someone gloats about themself(Twice with Radio, once with the Computer). It's clear by the third time, when Radio goes "What does that mean?" And Lampy responds "I don't know. [To Computer] What does that mean?" That he doesn't even know what's being gloated about, let alone why he should be impressed. He has the emotional intelligence to recognize when someone's gloating and the "appropriate" response of amazement, but it seems like it never comes from a place of earnest. (While Neurotypicals can and do engage in "performative" behavior, I tend to notice this way more commonly with neurodivergents)

Also the "wow..." Performative thing is VERY reminiscent of Peridot from Steven Universe(a characters who many autistic fans see themselves in and the creator herself saying she doesn't consider Peridot or any of the gems to be neurotypical) going "wow thanks" as her default "this is how I've been taught to show gratitude" response

Point #3: Miscellaneous traits that could be neurodivergent

These traits COULD be interpreted as neurodivergent, but I will admit they could also be interpreted as something else so like take these with a grain of salt

1: Lampy appears to have sensory needs. When sleeping, he needs to tap a rock a few times(presumably to make sure it's "right") before clonking his head on it. It's interesting because rocks aren't a very "lamp" thing whatsoever, and none of the other appliances look for pillow-ish objects to rest on, so this could be a sensory thing.

2: Lampy has an interesting vocal quirk: repetition of phrases at the beginning and end of a sentence. Instances include "How exactly do you propose we do that, exactly?" "All of a sudden you're being so darn nice to him all of a sudden" "The fact is there's just not enough facts" The third one is a bit of a stretch but the first two seem to indicate a possible pattern of speech. Part of me wants to say this could be a verbal tic or some type of verbal stimming, but I've never met anyone who has a tic or stim like this so I can't say it's a neurodivergent thing with confidence, but I wanted to mention this quirk regardless.

3: Physically saying how he feels. Two instances where multiple characters are laughing, Lampy speaks while laughing "That's funny - I'm dying!" "I'm aching with joy!". It's just interesting that no one else speaks while laughing and for whatever reason, Lampy needs to verbalize "Yes I find this very funny" as if simply laughing along isn't enough. I've seen somewhat similar stuff in neurodivergents who have issues expressing emotions implicitly so they state them explicitly instead.

4: I've noticed Lampy isn't touchy... except with Radio. Some neurodivergent people can have issues with physical contact, which could explain that. But I've also noticed that Radio also gives me huge neurodivergent vibes... But more importantly Radio is extremely touchy with everyone, Lampy included, hence them often getting into physical fights but also just- tapping them or wrapping a cord around the other and pulling him close(they're so in love but that's a post on its own). A possible explanation is Lampy having issues with touching others, but either feels comfortable being touchy with Radio(due to emotional bonds and trust) or simply recognizes "Radio likes being touchy so I should be touchy back". A stretch of an argument, I'll admit, but I think the interpretation is there and valid.

In conclusion

I mean idk if Lampy was written to be neurodivergent or if the writers just wanted him to be "quirky" and accidentally gave him a lot of neurodivergent traits, but he reads as very neurodivergent to me(probably autistic or adhd but I'm not a professional and can't diagnose him). But while I can chalk up neruodivergency being one of many possible interpretations of his character, I WILL argue that he's not "stupid" given the evidence we see throughout the movie

Tl;Dr: Lampy is evidently intelligent, but sometimes struggles with social cues, empathy, and overall shows numerous traits of neurodivergency

Since I first started watching Gravity Falls, which is only around 2 years ago. Kinda pathetic, I know, but it's unfortunately true. I don't think I ever heard of him before it, though.

2. whether or not they’ve ever made me cry

I shed a few tears in the finale, but that was also out of happiness? And I've cried rivers upon rivers whilst reading fanfic. Oh my god, my Stangst fanfic addiction might've been a little unhealthy.

3. whether or not i have any merchandise/objects with them

Yes? Kinda? He's mentioned a fuckton in Journal 3, which I have. Which makes sense. He's a main character. Also I just remembered I have Lost Legends. He's definitely in that.

4. what about their personality i like

Oh my god, what SHOULDN'T I like?

First of all, he's a conman. A wonderful conman who I fucking love. He is the guy ever. I love liars and I love conmen. He just has that vibe where he knows what he's doing and doesn't at the same time.

Second of all, he commits crimes. I fucking love crime. Tax evasion forever and whatnot. I love the way he just does not hesitate to do whatever the fuck he wants, illegal or not.

And of course, he is so fucking awesome. He is a badass who punches dinosaurs and dream demons and stuff all in the name of his family and the people he cares about. Like, he does all these terrible things, but it's all for his family and the people he cares about, and it's amazing.

Then, you know, he's funny. Funny, silly, you think he's just a funny old guy (who is Not Okay but you don't know that yet) and he is! Even though there's all these terrible things he got better and has fun around Soos and the kids.

He is neurodivergent as fuck. Have you fucking seen child and teen stan. Have you read Lost Legends?! He absolutely has ADHD, do NOT argue this with me, BECAUSE I AM RIGHT.

I literally cannot describe his personality because there's no words that really can describe it. But I fucking love him.

5. what about their backstory makes me emotional

What fucking WOULDN'T make me emotional?!?!?!?!

Okay, first of all, he was constantly berated as a child for not being able to control himself and his impulses, having the best of intentions but always messing up, to which his father verbally abused him.

When he was a teen it only got worse, and he got some pretty bad self-worth issues due to everyone calling him essentially an idiot and just overall useless. Like what the hell.

And then he got rejected by Ford, the only person he really cared what he thought of him, and got kicked out of his house onto the streets at the age of 17???!?!?!?? Like hello?? Is that legal?????!?!?!??!

He was forced to do some pretty bad shit to stay alive, likely dealing with illegal stuff and maybe getting cursed or whatever, completely in debt and forgotten by his family, until one day Ford called him over after 10 years...

...only to find out that he just wanted him to take some journal and leave, get as far away from him as possible. Understandably, this makes more sense in Ford's perspective, but Stan doesn't know shit and he didn't even get an explanation, so he was rightfully pissed off.

They fought, and he got branded, which made him even more pissed and he didn't even hear Ford's brief apology (God this whole scene tears my heart apart and stomps on the pieces) and then he pushes his brother into the portal, and-

He doesn't hesitate to fake his own death, but obviously feels remorse at accidentally taking his brother's identity. Like, he had to pretend to his family for 30 whole years that he was Stanford when he wasn't. What the hell.

And then after 30 long, hard years- of learning physics, and sciences, and whatever he needed to turn on the portal and get his brother back, persisting despite always being told how fucking stupid he was- his brother punched him in the face and yelled at him.

No wonder he was, once again, pissed.

Of course I was emotional about his backstory. What the fuck.

So these are going to be exclusively characters from Chinese media because I literally ... did not get into anything new in 2021 that wasn't in Mandarin. 😂

Sorted chronologically (in order of when I started liking them) because why not.

1) Lan Wangji (The Untamed) - I remember saying, at some point, "I have a headmate like that." Except he actually reminded said headmate of a younger, kinder version of himself so that was cool? I absolutely headcanon him as autistic and generally just,, love him. He is beauty, he is grace, he will break all the rules for Wei Wuxian and no one saw that coming. A+

2) Nie Huaisang (The Untamed) - I watched the whole series 3 and a half times in a row (yes...) and on my 3rd watch I made a game out of watching only NHS anytime he was on screen at all, which was highly entertaining. I can't really explain why I love him so much except that he seemed very relatable in the early days (flashback), and the later developments were just fascinating. I've got this headcanon that he had a chronic illness early in life that made him faint frequently, but over time he got better/learned to control it and simply never bothered to inform anyone of this 😈

3) Wen Kexing (Word of Honor) - where do I even start! He is such a trickster, his backstory is heart-wrenchingly tragic, there's a scene that makes 100% of trans viewers go "oh so he's trans," he has magically induced amnesia about past trauma, his shameless flirting is incredible, he is played by Gong Jun, what more can I say. Also, kudos for pulling off "crazy villain" (he's not the villain of the story but yk) in a way that makes me relate instead of being annoyed?? (Sometimes u just want to go feral)

4) Shen Wei (Guardian) - another one for the "I have a headmate like that" collection, but also omg I just love him so much. All three, uh, versions of him. Sexy professor Shen Wei is my favourite, I guess? Also definitely autistic, you can't stop me.

5) Zhao Yunlan (Guardian) - considering that he's practically a cop, it's impressive how much I like him. Must be the shameless flirting, again. 😂 And he's just so chaotic. Doesn't know how to sit like a normal person. Terrible at taking care of himself despite having a chronic stomach ailment (mood). Probably has ADHD. What's not to love

6) Wu Xie (Daomu Biji/The Lost Tomb/etc., henceforth shortened to DMBJ) - ah, Wu Xie. 😍 I don't think I ever used the phrase "comfort character" before him. The thing is, I would actually want to hang out with him because I know he would neither judge me nor find me boring, and how often does that happen?! Especially TLT2!WX is very close to my heart - the way he just seems to be bursting with love and compassion and curiosity. But I like Seasoned Adventurer WX, too, and I'm so glad he gets a happy ending after all the shit the story throws at him. That is also highly comforting!! He is very easy to headcanon as gay and arospec IMHO.

7) Wang Pangzi (DMBJ) - it's hard to sum up this character when he's so different in each adaptation, but above all he's delightfully weird. The writers don't always treat him well, which is a shame because he's amazing when they get it right. Definitely some manner of neurodivergent, often gives off strong queer vibes as well, sometimes gets to be fat and fashionable and extremely cool at the same time, mom friend, alternates between being the voice of reason and participating in the general chaos; I would like to summon him to cook some delicious food for me please. And have a movie night together.

8) Zhang Qiling/Xiaoge (DMBJ) - XIAOGE!!! My ... poor little meow meow. (No but seriously, he is such a cat.) I have a lot of feelings about this character, what with the amnesia and the trauma and the way he rarely speaks, which imho definitely comes across as an inability to speak at least as often as it seems to be a choice. But his friends just accept this. He is loved. 😭 Xiaoge's entire story is about the desire to find out who he is, as well as maybe learning to see himself as a person with needs and wants instead of a weapon/tool who must sacrifice himself to protect others. Needless to say, I cannot get enough of this

9) Hei Xiazi/Hei Yanjing (DMBJ) - what an absolute disaster. My favourite raccoon in human form. "I'm dropping hints that I'm immortal." Gives no fucks, may have minor crisis upon realising that he accidentally developed A Feeling. Somebody help him

10) Xie Yuchen/Xiao Hua (DMBJ) - ok so I exclusively credit Ultimate Note for this character's inclusion on the list, although TLT2 Xie Yuchen is also pretty great (and sexy, and slightly terrifying). But in UN he is just- *gestures wildly* I could write a whole essay about this. I won't do that in this post. Suffice it to say that he is also headcanoned as trans by nearly everyone, for good reason, and everything about him seems strangely subversive - I can't figure out how much of that was on purpose. I realise I just said almost nothing in a lot of words, but if I tried to get more specific, it would become an essay. Aaaaa

Honourable mentions: Wei Wuxian, Ye Baiyi, Gu Xiang, Ye Zun, Da Qing, Liu Sang, Huo Xiuxiu, Zhang Rishan, Liang Wan. (3 of these are women, I'm so sorry none made the cut hgfsgs)

Top 5 Video Games (no idea if that's been asked/answered before ^_^')!

Okay, first of all, thanks for the ask! And it hasn't been asked before, I think I've barely gotten any asks from ask games. Not exactly sure if I’m supposed to explain my choices, but I did, so this is a bit long.

I should start by saying that I don't have a list of my favorite videogames ready, so it is possible I may just be blanking on a few games that I love, and my favorites change from time to time, so next time I’m asked this it may be different. Anyway, after thinking for a while, this is what I came up with:

If FGO counts, then that’s probably #3 here, but I’m hyperfixating on that and it’s mobile, so I’ll just say it doesn’t.

1.Kingdom Hearts 2

What can I say? The combat is so good, the story too, I love all the characters and how they're all integrated and the disney worlds and the fights with organization xiii.

It took Kingdom Hearts 1, which is already great and expanded on it so much, introducing nobodies and Roxas and the Organization. Did I already mention the combat? Well it's good.

And if you need a challenge, it can still be challenging! Like, I consider myself pretty skilled since I've beaten a Dark Souls game or two, and I struggled for a while trying to get to the end of a level 1 playthrough.

I just love KH so much, and I feel like gameplay-wise KH2 is the pinnacle of the series. I can say more, but I won't. One last thing, actually being able to fight against roxas in Final Mix? So good!

2.Tales of Vesperia

My first Tales game, and if you've looked at my url, you may be able to see it's really close to me. There's so much I love about this game. The combat is amazing, while I'm fine that the series went away from this combat, I've always really missed it.

And the story, god the story. I know there may be some complaints about it falling short in the end, but I'd argue it's still fantastic.

Yuri's continued journey of choosing his own justice and what he believes for the good of the world, when compared to Duke choosing what he believes is Justice, killing all humans, for the good of the world? Just great.

And his journey and conflict with Flynn over the course of the game? Walking different paths but towards the same goal? Flynn trying to fix the knights from within and Yuri doing his part from the shadows? So good!

It has Rita, my second favorite Tales character, who I am pretty sure is Neurodivergent. And just a strong cast all around.

A bit of this could be nostalgia due to it being the first Tales game I fully completed, but I still love it.

3.Tales of the Abyss

I think this was the second Tales game I played, but I dropped it and didn’t properly get into a Tales game until my next one, Vesperia. Anyways, I appreciate this for its story over anything else.

Like, it tells a really good story, with how Luke is manipulated by Van and responsible for such devastation and how that jumpstarts his much-needed chatacter development, and how he doesn’t instantly get better. You can see him really trying, but it takes him a while to really get things.

Also, Jade is great. And the story it told, where Van finds out the score will lead humanity to its end and that it must be destroyed, or else they will hang onto the score until their last moments, like as a villain, he’s not exactly wrong, even if his methods definitely are.

And that final fight between Luke and Asch, with “Meaning of Birth” playing in the background, it really gets to me. And thinking about the ending, where either Asch or Luke are gone forever, is really bittersweet.

That said, wasn’t the biggest fan of its gameplay, never could figure out how to properly use the FoF.

Man, I need to replay Abyss. It’d be nice if they did a remake.

4.Super Paper Mario

(Thought about putting other Tales games up here, but two is probably enough)

The story is fantastic, like for a Mario game, which usually don't have story at all, to tell a story about someone trying to destroy the world because he's lost the one thing he's cared about in the world, only to find out after it's too late that she is still alive and well?

Like, it's so much more than I would expect from a Mario game. And while I prefer the combat of PM:ttyd and PM64, it's actually not that bad. Also, Dimentio is a fantastic twist villain to come in at the end and doom everything.

5.Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky

I've always loved the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games. I think the gameplay is neat and the story isn't that bad either. I will always remember Grovyle for his sacrifice. Really though, the story is good.

-with all that being said! Your brain has a good time till it mistakes your intense feelings for panic and makes it full on terror. You do not want it to stop you, but friends are more there to bring u down to speed

-you either make aloha as much of a party boi as he seems or take one look at the panels where he maked *those* faces and run with what bubbles beneath

6. Mask

-you have a few mood disorders and i hope you're doing ok with them. But you did see mask and vibed!
