Me explaining why I like a character:

it’s interesting to me that Pierce and Troy were originally intended to be a duo but were replaced by Troy and Abed bcus the actors have rlly good chemistry bcus ik they were planning smth clever like it’d be funny if the young black character and the old white character became close friends cuz they r so different, but what ended up happening is that u get the same effect but better with Troy and abed. Former popular jock type and bullied nerdy autistic guy find out they r actually soul bound for life and understand each other like no one else is way more compelling and fun imo then old guy and young guy have big demographic differences but r besties anyway. They both have the thematic intent of conveying that community college dismantles expectations of clicks and friend groups by putting drastically different ppl on the same playing field but Troy and abed r less obvious and more sincere and I like that

Imagining Abed's dad meeting Troy in a "meeting your kid's new boyfriend" scenario is really funny because I imagine him being really glad that his son is dating someone who's so kind to him, but also VERY concerned at all the weird shenanigans Troy tells him about. Like imagine hearing that your son got into a college-wide pillow fight with his boyfriend, like yeah you're still happy for him but wtf.

just rewatched queer studies & advanced waxing and. i have so many thoughts about abeds plot here and i want to hear all of yours as well

like obviously when he goes “the mother won’t come back.” it’s fucking. fuck. but i’m just thinking about the end where he releases the bird and annie goes “you did it! you saved him” (or whatever she says) and it’s really abed saving himself isn’t it. it’s one of the final chapters of his mommy issues and it’s him keeping the bird alive after the mom leaves

but what i really wanted thoughts on was the end when the bird hops into another electrical box. did the writers just mean it as a joke? is it generational trauma? is it parents trying to do things differently, but not knowing anything other than what they grew up with? is it troy? the parallels between abed’s mom and troy are so heartbreaking, and is the bird in the electrical box abed trying to heal his abandonment issues with his mom by jumping into his relationship with troy which exacerbates them?

anyways danny pudi is such a good actor in this episode and always
