Me explaining why I like a character:

fic idea. ive started writing it but i wanna make sure i can commit to it before posting it anywhere. basically the gist of it is. sadeas dies and then immediately afterward goes back in time to blackthorn days after he and dalinar hook up for the first time. and he has all his memories of the last 50 years but he is in the body of himself as an 18 year old and so hes like i can use this foreknowledge to assassinate dalinar once alethkar is unified. hehehehe #schemes. anyway dalinar is like haha we should get married and sadeas, seeing a perfect opportunity to get close to him to Fucking Kill Him, is like yeah actually we Should get married. And So They Get Married

and then the rest of the fic is. well from sadeas's perspective hes finding more depths to dalinar than he first percieved due to being around him in contexts other than Battle and Bar and Sex and like, keeps on making excuses for himself as to why hes not fucking assassinating dalinar and hes like almighty fucking storm it im going soft. and he is dragged kicking and screaming onto dalinar's side for most dalinar things. maybe he falls in love i havent decided yet how im gonna do that in a way that feels natural and in character to sadeas. meanwhile dalinar (a romantic at heart) is living in domestic murdery matrimonial bliss and is like im so lucky :) like he is living out the typical fluff slowburn fanfic life in between the guilt complexes and the addictions and all that nonsense but sadeas keeps on finding himself in increasingly soft fluffy domestic circumstances and is internally like ????? WHAT IS HAPPENING ????????????

and it would alternate chapters between sadeas pov and dalinar pov and the dalinar pov chapters are all like wow i love my husband 🥰 fluff schlock and the sadeas pov chapters are sadeas slowly going through de-piece-of-shit-ification over the course of thirty years while absolutely confused about it the whole time

How Kaladin Would Flirt With Other Cosmere Characters

Hot off the back of my post about other characters flirting with Kaladin, cam-ulu29 asked if I could also write about Kaladin being the big flirt with other characters. So let's just say that Kaladin had the ability & the desire to flirt...how might he do so?

1. Lyn

Kaladin: I'm glad that there are women Windrunners now. Lyn: Man, me too! Kaladin: And specifically I am glad that you. A woman. And a Windrunner. Are here. Lyn: Awww, thanks! Kaladin (visibly sweating): Yes you. As a woman. Who is a Windrunner. And is here. Lyn: Are you...are you having a stroke right now?

2. Renarin

Kaladin: Hey, Renarin...back when you first joined Bridge 4, did you have a crush on me? Renarin: ! Renarin: W-Was it obvious? Kaladin: N-No, not really! Syl told me. Later. That she thought you did. Renarin: Oh... Kaladin: ... Kaladin: Any chance you still do?

4. Rlain

Kaladin: Ugh, all these women keep coming to the clinic to flirt with me. Kaladin: I can't get any work done! Kaladin: I bet if they knew I was in a relationship already, they'd stop. Kaladin: Hey Rlain...do you want to hold hands? Rlain: ...Are you asking me to pretend to be your boyfriend? Kaladin: Pretend?

5. Laral

Kaladin: Crazy how we're both single now. Laral: ... Laral: You mean because you got dumped and my husband DIED? Kaladin: Uh... Laral: ... Kaladin: So...not the right moment to see if you want to get a drink and catch up? Laral: NOPE

6. Adolin

Kaladin: I think horses are mean and scary. Adolin: That's just 'cause you haven't been around them enough! I swear! They're cool and friendly! Kaladin (continuing as if Adolin said nothing): But I would accept being around horses. Lots of mean horses. Kaladin: If it meant. Kaladin: Being around you. Adolin: ...? Kaladin: ... Adolin: ... 7. Shallan

Kaladin: [sighing dramatically] Shallan: What's wrong? Kaladin: I want to flirt with someone, but she's much wittier than I am, so I don't know how to even start. Shallan: Oooh, that's exciting! Can I give you advice? Kaladin: I would LOVE advice. Shallan: Well, it depends on whether you can match her wit, or whether you think she's entirely too witty for that. Kaladin: I think I could. Sometimes. Probably not while also flirting, though. Shallan: Sure, sure. Well, you can always just enjoy her wit and let her enjoy how smart she is. Kaladin: Yeah? You think making her feel smart is a good tactic? Shallan: Well, it certainly can't hurt! Kaladin: [significant look] Shallan: ... Shallan: Oh! Shallan: Nice.

•Restaurant industry AU. Dalinar runs a Michelin Star restaurant, Sadeas owns a gross and cheap restaurant chain. Kaladin’s won best employee for about a year straight because even though his boss(Gaz) fucking hates him, the EOM is a vote but not like a council vote the EMPLOYEES vote and everyone just picks Kaladin

•Cultivations Champion AU. Probably thought up before but like. Cultivation starts feeling left out and steals one of Dalinar’s Radiants (totally kaladins its gna be kaladin) to make her Champion. And since the duel os between honors and odiums champion kal just stands there watching Ft. Kal with REALLY long hair

• A twist on the shakadolin love triangle that went on from wor-ob but its shallan and adolin fighting over kaladin. The Kholin family knows about this and is somehow completely unfased by this (Dalinars only complaint is like “heirs…:(“ but he. He gets over it this isnt the focus of the conflict and Kaladin is COMPLETELY oblivious to the entire situation Ft. An exceptionally better first impression between shallan and kaladin

• Kaladin isnt brought up as a surgeon or even like as a surgeons son and we’re reminded that Alethi actually encourage war and murder (our understanding of Alethi culture has been muddled by Dalinar’s honor and Kaladin’s INNATE “i dont like death” type thing. Adolin killing Sadeas is, illegal, yes. But also no one in Alethi culture would fault him at all??)

• jobs AU set not in modern times but like… kind of in the future??. Shallan is a Medical Illustrator, Adolin is. He doesnt have a job come on hes riding off of Dad’s money.(but he does attempt fashion stuff) Kaladin is an emergency physician (MY personal dream job, go kal), and Renarin is the Crazy Inventor (tm)

•not even remotely niche but the “this entire thing is just a show theyre actors” au. And they all conveniently have the same exact name as their role. Kaladin IS ACTUALLY Dalinar’s son irl and theyre so bad at acting on that part they had to write in that Dalinar was a father figureish to Kal. Rlly out of the blue but Venli (who has makeup on but the listener/singer appearance is mostly cgi) and Shallan are sisters, not revising my opinion on this. Everything else can be figured out later i just wanted to define those two things (this specific AU is something im kinda actually working on for Red Rising (sobs in half the cast is dead)

So I just finished the Stormlight Archive, and I love it! It’s awesome, great world building, interesting magic system, lovable interesting character. However, something I’ve noticed sometimes, emotional beats are skipped over and only mentioned to have been dealt with retroactively. Some examples:

Spoilers through Rhythm of War

In RoW:

We don’t see Shallan’s reunion with Testament. We only see after.

In the same chapter we find out that at some point Adolin and Shallan find out that Uratheru was invaded, occupied, and then freed.

At the trial we find out that Adolin knew about Kaladin’s near betrayal. I assume that means all the Kholin’s know, but when and how? Did Elhokar know that there was a time his hero really believed the world would be better off without him?

This one I get bc of the time jump btw Oathbringer and Rhythm of War, but Adolin and Renarin finding out that Dalinor killed their mother Evi.

Maybe it’s just me but I think Kal deserved some more awe and excitement from his friends at achieving the fourth ideal?

Again this happened in the time jump but a more full reunion btw Kaladin and his family. Bc we get one in Oathbringer, but like that’s kinda a “hi, Im alive, I’m a radiant, there’s a new desolation, gotta go”, verses where they are at the beginning of RoW. There’s definitely be a good bit of contact since then.

In Oathbringer:

Had Gavinor returned in time for the wedding, why do we only see Kal’s relief that he’s alive? I would have liked to see the Kholin’s’.

Speaking of Kholin reunion’s we only hear about. Jasna and Navani!!!

We completely skip over Kal being locked up again first with friends and then on his own, away from Syl who’s also locked up.

Oh, and I feel like we deserve a conversation between Shallan and Kaladin about Helarand.

This is not a full missing beat, but it would have been nice to see Adolin and Shallan’s wedding. We see the abbreviated heretical ceremony for Dalinor and Navani l, and I think it would have been an interesting contrast to see the tradition ceremony Adolin and Shallan probably had. (On a side note I love that Kal gave Shallan boots, that’s hilarious, but now I do want to know what he gave Adolin)

In Words of Radiance

I feel like it would have been good to see Elhokar mourn his sister.

Adolin’s POV after Shallan and Kal fall into the chasm.

Kal getting through his first proximity to Amoram unless he just avoided him…but I don’t know! We don’t see it, we aren’t even told what he did when he saw Dalinar talking to Amoram. We only know that Amoram doesn’t recognize Kal until after the duel.

Anyway I can’t remember any specific ones in TWoK, but im sure there are some.

Thoughts on Wind and Truth chapters 5 and 6!

Chapter 5:

As a historian, I find such nuances relevant. As a philosopher, I find them enticing.

Okay, so likely NOT Kaladin writing Knights of Wind and Truth since I highly doubt he will ever label himself as a historian or philosopher

He turned to her, blue eyes meeting hers. “I lay on the ground, battered and assaulted, and watched your husband rise in my defense against overwhelming odds. He saved me with no expectation of reward. In that moment I knew that Honor lived.” He nodded curtly to Shallan, then walked down the steps to talk with Adolin.

She attracted a few creationspren, little swirling lights. These ones, though, behaved oddly—in here, she’d never seen them change shape like they did in the Physical Realm, but these started adopting the appearance of her pencil or eraser.

I'm guessing these are Shallan's armor spren, which makes it interesting that the bond allows them to change shape

He took the picture, frowning, then his eyes widened as he saw it depicted him standing tall, wearing robes and striding from a fanciful city with colorful walls and strange trees with long fronds she’d made up.

Oooh, Shallan is using Fortune? I'm guessing that's why she is working with Renarin and Rlain. Although, I wonder what Wit's warning about people who can see the future will impact Shallan.

Regardless, the events surrounding the cleansing of Shinovar are of specific relevance, and I am doing my best to record what I can discover of the Wind’s own words regarding them. Though, now that the Wind and Heralds have vanished, I have only two sources who can speak of these events. They are my witnesses.

Well that's fucking ominous. The Wind and the Heralds are gone? Yikes. But I'm guessing that the "two sources" are Szeth and Kaladin.

We need to change, Kaladin. To do things differently. I think we start by not throwing people away when we worry they’re defective.

“Life breaks us,” Dalinar said. “Then we fill the cracks with something stronger.”

I wonder if Dalinar knows he said the same thing to Kaladin that Kaladin said to Lirin when rescuing him. Did he hear about it somehow; is it a common phrase in Urithiru; or is this some Connection fuckery?

Also, Dalinar wants Kaladin to be heir to the throne of Urithiru. I hope he doesn't end up being king, even if he decides to accept the role of heir. I have the feeling this development will cause some discourse in the fandom regardless.

Anyway, that's it. I'll probably have more thoughts later, but here are my initial ones!

Stormlight Archive Characters at a Waterpark:

following my stormlight characters at a theme park post, here’s my take on some characters at a waterpark lol:

Dalinar: likes the waterpark, but forgets it’s there for fun purposes. finds a place he can swim laps, sometimes aggressively, sometimes passively. likes to read all the safety signs, you will NOT catch him running in the park. enjoys the flumes! you will also find him telling off other members of the public for not following the rules, the lifeguards are confused by this.

Adolin: the waterpark is just as good as a theme park! totally runs when no one is looking, and also does sneaky cannonballs into the water when he can get away with it. FIEND FOR THE FLUMES AND SLIDES and will willingly carry everyone’s rubber rings like a pack horse just to make them go on the slide with him. takes great joy in splashing Dalinar, and Jasnah specifically.

Shallan: the waterpark is fun! but she doesn’t enjoy wearing swimming costumes so feels a little self conscious the whole time. sticks with Kaladin for a lot of the time because he looks just as uncomfortable as her! when she does let loose, she enjoys going down the slides in a train with Adolin and goofing around in the pools with beach balls! she manages to accidentally throw one in Jasnahs face, and she swiftly breaks the no running rule when she sees the death glare…

Kaladin: finds the waterpark a little bit overwhelming, but still enjoys it. also not a huge fan of being so undressed, many women and men keep staring at him… absolute slut for the lazy river tho, and you will find him in a ring just going round and round and round. when Adolin makes him go on the slide, he figures out how to balance the ring to go super fucking fast, much to Adolin’s delight, and agrees to teach Adolin how to do it.

Navani: the vibes of the waterpark are good, but she will NOT be participating. does everyone not realise how many people would have urinated in that water? she hadn’t had a chance to see the filtration systems so therefore does not trust it. she’s quite happy to lounge about tho and take a break! she will order a sneaky cocktail, and chill in an outside lounger in the sun with a book!

Renarin: weirdly loves the waterpark in his own way. the water feels nice and he likes the feeling of all the different spouts and fountains and how they all feel different when they hit him. has to take breaks from all the colours and sound, but is a pro at finding quiet spots to just vibe out. goes on a slide with Adolin with a double ring and actually has a great time!

Szeth: is a little freak at the waterpark lol. you will find him standing under those huge spouts that just POUND water harshly on top of you. he just stands there and let’s it happen. the public is concerned. Dalinar eventually pulls him out before he drowns himself. when he’s not doing that, he’s trailing either Kaladin or Dalinar and doing whatever they do.

Jasnah: has a good time at the waterpark, there’s lots to study. how does the lazy river work? how does one get the perfect experience on the slides? she likes to swim around, but her guilty pleasure is the hot pools, and she will boil herself in them.

ooc: top five stormlight characters ???

1. shallan davar. she was immediately my nr 1 fave. I fell a bit out of love with her for a hot second the first time I listened to wor, but upon relisten I realized how stupid and ridiculous that was and it has been thoroughly rectified. she's so trans she's so npd she's just the best girl i adore her

2. adolin kholin. what can i say. i live for characters that are canonical sluts. he just cares so so so much and it makes me a bit insane (in a positive way)

3. jasnah kholin. once again. cares so so much. i can't believe people buy her ice queen facade because she is so terrible at not caring. its also so cool how she's basically the only atheist in a world seeped in religion. she's so aksmfhajfjg

4. renarin kholin. look i know he's barely got any screentime where im at. but i also fell in love with him at first sight simply because he encompasses that one specific character archetype i always end up loving

5. I know he's a side character (and like a side side character, not a side main character like renarin (though I think he gets a bigger role and even some own povs in the later books)), but there is something about moash man. he's got me. I love you moash I support all your wrongs

Here's the thing.

there is something about him that rubs me the wrong way a bit. the way he is so modest. the slight "holier-than-thou" vibes in everything he does (and ESPECIALLY THAT HE DOESNT SEE IT. HE DOESNT THINK HE IS SELF OBSESSED BUT HE IS HE IS) the whole reluctant hero thing. how he low-key condemns everyone who doesn't follow his idea of what is right and what is wrong.

like. it's not that I don't like him, not at all. but he *was* my least favorite pov character in my first readthrough. I already liked him a lot more in wor when he let his more petty side go wild, and I actually learned to appreciate him a lot more through this very blog since it made me think about him and who he is. And it's not like I ever DISliked him. it's just. sometimes I wish he would just shut the fuck up yanno?

The thing that compels me about Kaladin isn't his character (like it is with Shallan for example, which was love at first sight) but the extremely very obvious parallels with a bunch of people he hates - parallels that he himself isn't aware of (which is why I chose to make this blog from *his* POV: the cycles and patterns and parallels are RIGHT THERE)

Sometimes I'm normal but usually I run around screaming about such things as Wit + Jasnah or Renarin or Shallan like

Wit and Jasnah are canon now which like I'm crazy about that OBVIOUSLY but I didn't even mean that I meant it more in thr sense of just general... Idk. Insanity. Like in the way that Jasnah Shallan and Renarin resemble each other, namely how their unique traits alienate them (I'm talking about autism, asexuality and whatever nebulous quality combines them both) but specifically in a way that other king's wits would (presumably) exploit but THIS Wit doesn't (BC. You know. He is himself in many ways far more alien than any of them will ever be and that + his age puts him above even the nebulous quality of autismic asexuality (I'm not making sense here but what I mean is that when you are an ancient creature who it could be argued stands above or at least Without gods because of what he knows, why would you care about such things as social rules or social dynamics) (=I don't think wit is necessarily autistic or ace at all but that he no longer cares enough to play the game) which for the record is also why being a wit is the best role he's played in this whole thing so far because that's exactly what position a wit takes on within the Alethi society)

Basically I'm re reading way of kings after having just finished rhythm of war and the way Wit makes fun of Renarin is actually Wit making sure Renarin ISNT further alienated from the class of people he runs with (everyone thinks Renarin is either too weak to take it (dalinar) or so strange Wit should only ever be concerned with him (like everyone else other than adolin and maybe elhokar) so the fact Wit just treats him same as anyone else is, like, meaningful) and then in. Oathbringer I think? When Wit has that insanity inducing moment with Shallan where he actually breaks down his walls a bit just to offer her comfort (INSANE) and then I think with Jasnah what strikes me most of all is he's not any specific way with her at all he just. Is.

And I guess in a way he's like that with kal too (he's like that with everyone really) except I don't count it because kal is a soldier and he's not alienated from polite society other than by being a darkeyes (but that's not true alienation that's just not being part of the 1% kind of) like even if kal FEELS alienated because of his trauma he doesn't actively take on that position as opposed to everyone else mentioned in this post (which btw part of how Jasnah does that is by being a heretic too)

Idk. End of sentence. I just go mad about these interactions. And I go double mad about Renarin and Jasnah and how they are... So similar. So different. So supremely Brother And Sister even when they're not

I've read a few (relatively) recent Kalarin fics that center on Renarin, essentially, taking pity on Kaladin in an awkward situation, and I've been thinking about it a lot because yeah, that theme 100% nails one of the ways they work together IMO.

Like, Renarin needs and deserves someone to believe he's more capable than people (Alethi lighteyed society, and especially his own father) assume he is, and that's Kaladin's whole MO - he always sees potential in people and tries to encourage it, and he does that to/for Renarin from their first real interaction in WoR, when he immediately asserts that Renarin can fit in with Bridge Four.

Kaladin on the other hand needs... okay, it's not that he 'needs pity', but he needs someone to look at him, see that he's struggling under the facade he puts up, and acknowledge/assist with the struggle without undermining the things he does accomplish. He needs support, but specifically in a way that strikes a delicate balance of not... making him feel like a failure for accepting support.

And that's what makes Renarin such a good fit, because Renarin is perceptive (we've known this from WoK, when Adolin talks about how he makes people uncomfortable) and also, for his own reasons, hyperaware of the problems of social perception and being undermined by well-meaning people around you. He's essentially grown up having to deal with exactly the same sort of thing Kaladin has increasingly struggled with over the course of the series, and he does pretty well for himself, and it makes perfect sense that he would reach out a hand to Kaladin and try to help, and create a bridge of unexpected solace and understanding.

Uhhhh something something Adolin and Maya. I want to see her restored to not being a deadeye but not being a full spren either. Like enough that she can come as a Shardblade instantly but Adolin doesn’t have the full range of Edgedancer abilities that he would get.

On Adolin I think that in the timeskip him and Shallan will have kids. We saw it in the hope of elantris and again with Steris and Wax. Brandon likes it when couples have kids. Plus I think it’ll be interesting to see the different hair colors and whatnot.

Also on that note I feel that Adolin would be a great parent as his weren’t the best. Especially for Renarin. And since his parents weren’t the best parents and Shallans are dead he’s probably end up going to Hesina for parental advice. I think she’d be quite excited to help him out.

Also Kaladin and Aesudan are related through Hesina and I want to know more on that. (One of her parents is a lighteyes or something?)

Additionally. I think that Szeth and Kaladins road trip is going to get cut short by the 10 days timeline thing. I keep going back and forth on this. With all that there is that we know will happen in stormlight 5, will the book just be occurring within those 10 days? Because with the lost metal that was like less than 48 hours. But like idk it’ll make the relationship feel very rushed.

Also I think Dalinar is going to lose the contest of champions thingy. There’s no good ways of putting it.

Renarin!!! I love him so much. I really hope that he gets more povs in kowt. I’d love to see more inside his brain. The little bit in Oathbringer during the battle of Thaylen field wasn’t enough for me. Because hes like way too relatable it’s almost scary.

I just want aspec Kaladin confirmed because at this point it’s driving me insane. Hes gotta be on the aroace spectrum. Because there is ZERO explanation for all that he’s got going on.

It would be really super cool if we saw some more worldhoppers too. Maybe Khriss and Nazh(?) and also maybe Kelsier(???) especially after the kowt prologue absolutely.

I think this book is going to have more with the Heralds too. Idk what or why but I think so. I actually really REALLY want to know about Chana (the only herald we haven’t seen yet.) Mostly because of the Chana is Shallans mom theory. I love that one and also it’s been like triple(?) RAFO’d now so… hmmmmm

Dustbringer Moash!!! There’s just something about that that makes me go insane and someone somewhere had like a great theory about that and also just dustbringers in general because we haven’t really seen much of them but I dont know where that theory is right now or anything.

I hope we see Azure again. Specifically with Vasher. Some point they both see Szeth wielding Nightblood and they both go like Woah woah woah holy shit no dude. How are you not dead? And Szeth goes oh I’ve already died once so…

Speaking of Szeth. My beloved white boy Szeth. Idk if he’s still wearing white or not but if he is give him some color to his wardrobe. He deserves it. Also I think this death rattle is talking about him and going back to Shinovar because his house was kind of by the ocean and the everstorm most likely destroyed Shinovar as they’re not used to highstorms being that powerful and then it came from the other direction and yeah.

I love the absolute zero positive emotions anyone in the fandom has towards Gavilar. Like there are people who really fucking hate Moash but there are a ton of people who love him too (especially on tumblr). All the wlw on my dash wanna get with Raboniel. There are characters that have never done anything positive ever like Sadeas, but at least he’s fun to hate. Gavilar though? Nobody gives a shit about him. The people who have even a smidgeon of opinion about him are like god damn i hate the way he treated Navani and then move on. Kholins ranked by their willingness and ability to carry my groceries on the long walk from the bus stop to my apartment

Gavilar: would carry my groceries but only because he views me as weak and beneath him. He is doing this to exert power and to flex. 6/10

Navani: would take half of my groceries because “it’s fair that way” but my half would be the half with a gallon of milk in it. Fuck off. 4/10.

Dalinar: depends on the era. Blackthorn era Dalinar would carry my groceries to show off his sick muscles. Bondsmith era Dalinar would carry my groceries because the way of kings probably has a parable about Nohadon carrying groceries to Urithiru or some shit. At any rate, he’s carrying my groceries. 10/10

what is the zellion sweep. i have no clue what it is. help

lets set the scene. its october 2022. tensions are high in the fandom due to a maelstrom of events. we are all at our wits end. i, personally, am going through one of the worst periods of my whole life for non cosmere reasons. we're all tired. we're fucking exausted

and then. i get an email. from the kickstarter. theres one more stretch goal left to reveal. i wonder who it is? kelsier? evi? elhokar? then i read the email. "brandon said "let's add zellion." we are proud to announce our final miniature will be zellion!"

who. the fresh fuck. is zellion.

i am at my wits end, and so is alanamy the-tumblr-user-formerly-known-as-moash, currently tumblr user zellionsweep. they make some silly posts about who the fuck is zellion. i also make some posts like who the fuck is zellion. alanamy zellionsweep tags these posts #ZELLIONSWEEP as a reference to the #MORBIUSSWEEP meme from a few months back.

from there, the lore begins. i make silly posts about zellion's unrequited love for szeth. i make a post claiming that he and dalinar were once lovers. others assert that he has no bitches, he gets no pussy, he receives no cock. he is bisexual. he is biphobic. he is a menace. he's dating moash now. he's secretly kelsier, no, evi, no, aesudan, no, fused dalinar. he's like the wind, he's everywhere and nowhere. nonsensical headcanons are posted under the hashtag #zellionsweep. tumblr user kaladins-simp-list begins compiling a list of all the zellion lore. it is very inconsistent. we all have our own unique interpretations of the character.

zellionsweep escapes containment and ends up on r/cremposting. i find out how many of my tumblr mutuals have reddit accounts. people start flying dangerously close to post limit. we are fucking insane. we needed this. after weeks and weeks of moashcourse and syladin and mistborn era 2 discussion and the ever looming threat of cosmere adaptations and stress and frustration, we finally get to let loose and clown on brand sand for the stupidest decision he has ever made, which is entrusting us with a brand new guy and not telling us anything about him and expecting everyone to be normal about it.

im still sad about no bondsmith Rlain to be totally honest. Navani is great but she’s never united anyone unless you count Ravoniel which you shouldn’t bc that wasn’t political allies that was homoerotic rivals who specifically had a thing Despite working against each other for different sides of a war you know? it was sexy but it was the opposite of being united. and actually while we’re here who the fuck has Dalinar united. renarin and adolin in therapy together??? ik the nahel bonds are supposed to be a growth/character development device (neutral statement) Thing but if Kaladin almost lost Syl for naughty activism thoughtcrimes how the hell has stormfather not choked to death on Dalinar alienating his sons and upholding a divisive caste system with a side order of slavery??? That is very much not ‘bringing men together’. That’s like the opposite of that. where is the drive for social justice that should be inherent in a vow to bring peace and build connections. you literally can’t do that shit genuinely without allowing people/groups the chance for equal relationships. it doesn’t WORK within power structures-

ok anyway. Navani could have been like, off the top of my head, a Dustbringer or a Willshaper if she has to be a Radiant but you know Sanderson seems p married to that idea so I’m just offering some adjustments. I think a bond that could have been used to explore her role as an overlooked but socially powerful member of court, and as an engineer, would have made more sense for her and allowed for more interesting character development. And as little as I want Rlain to be the diversity hire again (or for him to have to work closely w Dalinar) he seems a much more obvious choice for the bondsmith role. And it would be better for the *narrative*, if not for Rlain, for Dalinar and Rlain to share that role. what on earth is being ‘united’ by Navani and Dalinar working in the same order. They have the same background, status, and last fucking name for god’s sake. 

I do think it’s interesting that in book Rlain is discussed as a good choice for bondsmith and that Navani bonding the sibling came a little bit down to necessity, I will say that. If something is *done* with that I’m happy. I just don’t know if it will ever be brought up again and am hyperaware of the fact that if it’s not, then bringing up bondsmith Rlain at all was probably just lampshading the weird choice to have Navani make the bond instead. 

in conclusion, how do I beam this post into sanderson’s assistant’s head the next time he invites us to harass him over stream?
