#i go a lil nuts w it bc its a lot of fun for me

didn't want to ask this in the replies but what is your process like for designing clothing for characters bc not only do they look gorgeous but you always put so much thought into your stuff, esp the historical kind. it smthin i've always kind of struggled with tbh and you make it so interesting

oh man it kinda. varies? depending on what kind of clothing i want out of a character. this gets kinda long too but bear w me lol

the fashion pieces i do, i spend a lot of time going thru fashion editorials for poses and pick up pieces of different outfits or silhouettes that i want out of a piece. for stuff like a set occupation (hunter, butcher, blacksmith) it's abt knowing time period and finding the pattern between different photos.

the more complicated ones are like. odelia and euan. where im creating a whole piece that's frankensteined from a couple different styles (rococo, georgian, regency, etc). i think the three main types of information i depend on are Goal, Silhouette, and Fabric.

so Odelia and Euan. the goals for them are very different, bc Odelia strives to be the center of attention while Euan tries to blend in with the background.

Odelia needs something extravagant and flashy, maybe brightly colored and shiny; pastels and wide skirts would be good for her, and rococo is a good place to find both. satin is good for shine and lace is good for detail, and both are relatively light materials. Euan would want something a little more subdued, possibly a tighter silhouette so he's not taking up much space. i found a picture of a russian noble while i was sifting thru various noble clothing designs, and i liked the way the silhouette was tighter and cleaner. he'd also need darker colors if he wants to hide in the shadows. i like the way darker colors look in velvet, and it's a thicker, heavier fabric, which was another trait in the photo i was referencing. i also like the weight and thickness of quilted fabric so throw that in there for fun and detail. lastly, being as they're twins and high priests, they need a way to tie the designs to each other, and i settled on a thicker neckline that suits both styles in different ways. the finished concept looks a bit like this.

granted this is always subject to change, and its a v simple version of the design i want, but its a good start

with designs like that i also like looking for textiles! rococo patterns are so pretty too, so i picked one for Euan as well. the off white would be shared between the two designs, the lighter blues for Odelia, and the darker blues for Euan

wheeze that's a rough estimation of how i go thru designs, there's a type of practicality and personality i want out of most of them so i try to research what i can when i want smth specific. part of this is admittedly bc i. am a lil obsessed w period clothing, so i already have some of that in my back pocket, but i also think just typing in "[year] fashion" is a fair place to start. regardless, having fun is a Must when you're designing clothes for a character so dont forget that bit lol. i wish you luck and godspeed, friend!

A random headcanon: he keeps nursing injured animals back to health because he’s just that fucking sweet and bringing them back to his house to keep them warm and safe while they recover and his team knows vaguely about this and ino and shikamaru like to poke fun at him for it but since they don’t tend to encounter said animals, it’s not really a huge deal.

of course they stop by his house one day bc he hadn’t shown up for training which is annoying and frankly a little concerning and finding the house mostly empty ino just bursts on into chouji’s room only to immediately have the opossum he’s been caring for latch its little paws on her face and cling.

it’s a bad morning. General Opinion over said character: literally one of my absolute favorites of all time and it really breaks my heart how overlooked he is in the fandom (seriously y’all...). i think kishimoto is kind of a stupid hack and the Fat Jokes are really grating and it sucks to see that so intrinsically tied to his character (like. just let him be fat. jesus christ) but his kindness and overall relaxed, loyal and lovable nature has me just melting. i adore him. 

Shikamaru

(I could also talk a lot about how his earlier misogyny is both a product of being a whiny tween and also some internalized frustration of like WHATS SO GREAT ABOUT GIRLS. UGH. I DONT. STOP TELLING ME IM GONNA FALL IN LOVE WITH ONE ONE DAY DAD JESUS. and let’s be real, thats frustrating, even if it aint an excuse)  Gender Headcanon: he uses he/him pronouns because it’s just what he’s used to and comfortable with but man gender is such a drag... Sexuality Headcanon: he’s pan!! this is a boy that crushes easily and crushes hard on just about anyone!!!! Gender Headcanon: cis male A ship I have with said character: ok i ship him a lot with neji actually? what with how neji grows during the course of the series to regard lee with the respect he deserves is really sweet and there’s just something so infinitely adorable about him going around being the hammiest, most ridiculously earnest, kind and enthusiastic person and neji, now that he isn’t constantly bitter and angry at the world can finally really see that? lee is always happily dropkicking his way into his life, like he wouldn’t have it any other way, and i think that’s just...so sweet A BROTP I have with said character: SAKURAAAAA. oh my GOD do i adore their relationship. ever since lee saved her and basically just gave her a glimpse of his...lee-ness, the fact her negative opinion of him IMMEDIATELY flipped and gave her such a strong admiration and fondness for him kills me DEAD. she always treats him with so much respect and the fact she’s quick to rag on anyone making fun of him melts my HEART!! and on lee’s side, his little crush on her is adorable of course, but the sheer strength of the friendship that comes from it is more than infatuation could ever offer him. i want them to hang out together and talk about their troubles...i want them to make each other laugh and be so very kind to each other...i want sakura to storm over and throw him over her shoulder to TAKE A BREAK ALREADY when he’s been training too hard for too long. god. A NOTP I have with said character: honestly i’m pretty happy with a lot of lee ships! the only ones i view with obvious disdain are the ones with creepy age gaps honestly. A random headcanon: out of everyone in the leaf genin, he’s probably the closest anyone’s ever come to someone who EVERYONE is at least distantly friendly towards. like god have you SEEN how warm and inviting and concerned he is the SECOND he sees that naruto is feeling down? i get the sense he’s immediately inclined to provide that kind of support to any of his comrades, even the ones that Resist it.

you think sasuke is the most popular among the leaf genin? puh-LEASE. everyone looks on rock lee with at least a LITTLE bit of warmth. thats just fact. General Opinion over said character: since my first viewing of naruto he has been my Absolute fav, and while chouji and shikamaru are veeery close to stealing that spot, one look at him and i feel he’s gonna be on top forever. probably the best written character kishimoto’s ever produced that’s remained in  the main cast (tho i dont speak for shipudden onwards who fucking knows, but the truth of it is is i adore rock lee)

Gaara

Sexuality Headcanon: Panromantic Asexual Gender Headcanon: kind of like shikamaru, i feel like he uses he/him pronouns but also doesn’t particularly....Care? A ship I have with said character: ok so it wasnt until my naruto rewatch that i really started falling into this but i think him and naruto are super cute? while i loathe kishimoto for ruining so much abt this show he really is good at creating good foils to naruto, and gaara is no exception--and the way naruto changes his life by just kicking his ass (and proving he’s not just a Simp or smth) and then just, extending genuine empathy and a REAL sense of truly relating to where he’s coming from re:his upbringing? the EFFECT it has on him, bro!!!! my god!!! i feel like they’re that opposites attract ship that don’t clash constantly but instead fall into this adorable synergy and understanding? and i think thats so sweet A BROTP I have with said character: ...is it cheating to just put temari and kankuro here? bc they are literally his siblings but my GOD do i love their relationship. there’s something so deeply sad about their initial situation??? like having siblings that either are deeply fucking afraid of you or clearly don’t care for your well being whatsoever, it’s such a tragic scenario, and the times where they really do show legitimate care for gaara just breaks my heart...but the GROWTH. okay so i’m gonna start out w the basics about me — i’m elizabeth, again. i’m pretty easy to get along w, i’m a gemini (don’t h8 me okay). i’m gonna be a bit busy for the next couple weeks bc it’s finals in like 7 days, so i’ll try my hardest to be as active as possible but school always comes first ! i will definitely make it on here daily, but until the 14th it might not be too much time per day. anyways, aside from my disclaimer, i’m a psych student and i can read ur mind 🙃

next up, and way more important than what my major is, let’s hear abt effie

okay so, she’s not ur typical rich bitch. she’s actually pretty humble aside from her lavish lifestyle that she’s kinda forced to live. she moved to conyer’s farm 13 years ago when her family wanted their children to have a more normal home and life away from the commotion.

her momma was like a big big fashion model, like nyfw and paris fw type shit. she was on like every magazine cover more times than you could count on your two hands. 

her dad was a rockstar in the 90′s, he was blowwwwin’ up. but, his career kinda took a fall when he was dropped from his band due to drug and alcohol abuse —like he just couldn’t keep up w the schedule the way he was acting. he and her mother stayed married until he passed away — effie found him ejected from his car in front of their house, he crashed into the brick wall on the gate surrounding their home and wasn’t wearing a seatbelt basically. i’d say that was the most traumatic event of her life, happened at about like 19 yrs old.

let’s lighten up the mood a bit — she’s an artist. studio art major at NYU. she likes to paint really abstract shit, like not shit you can really understand. she thinks a lot, so she kinda just lets the mess of her mind out on canvas. because of this outlet, she’s actually got a pretty chill exterior and you’d never really know that she was like such this anxiety-ball type girl (but like, all her close friends and family know she is so not chill, she’s just rly good at hiding her feelings).

she’s v easy to get along w, doesn’t really pick fights unless she genuinely thinks you’re a bad person and deserve bad karma (which doesn’t happen often)

yes, she smokes and she drinks, but only in moderation since her father u know

some little facts about her —

she’s fascinated by nature (flowers, trees, grass, animals, specks of dust, you n a m e it and she loves it) she’s a little bitch for skittles don’t be fooled by her genuine, kind heart - those who do not deserve it will not get to feel the good feeling she gives people she loves cars ((( i mean her dad was a rockstar, he got her into them ))) she’s a lil fashion nut, her mother wouldn’t ever let her leave the house in something that was last season so that kinda rubbed off on her she lives for concerts, like quite literally, she might die if she doesn’t go to at least one a month she considers herself straight, but she’s never had much chance to explore since different sexualities other than being straight weren’t really spoken about in her family, and let’s just say there’s potential for her to learn some new things about herself.

there’s much much more, but that’s the gist of it

okay so some connections i think would work well w her:

childhood friend. — this is kinda an obvious one but i think she’s just so sweet, she would never become distant w her childhood friend. so basically, this is someone who maybe even knew her before she moved there, or they met one of the first days she did. they clicked on maybe their love for fashion, similar family dynamics, or artistic ability (obviously, this can be developed further). they continued to find things they loved together, and they’re basically still inseparable.

university companion. — no one likes to go to classes alone, even gen eds. effie definitely loves the presence of company, so i can’t really see her walking around campus at her lonesome. if any other characters go to NYU, this would be a good plot to explore, and could be a good way to develop some background behind their connection. they could car pool, go to parties together, get coffee on campus together, bond over their fame or money getting in the way of making friends on campus.

first love. — i can imagine that effie probably isn’t over her first love. i mean, her heart is just so big. she’s probably had people since her first love, but nothing is more pure than your first right? she probably holds onto that feeling, whether or not it’s possible for them to work together again. your character could handle this with any type of feelings, maybe they hurt her or she hurt them too bad for it to be possible for them to love her still, maybe they don’t know how she feels but feel the same way, whatever works. just think this could stirrr the pot. (i would imagine this role to be a cis male though, since she hasn’t had chances to explore her sexuality yet).

mixed feelings. — i can imagine this plot as someone who has been infatuated with effie for quite some time. effie probably catches some type of vibe, but i imagine that they’re such close friends that they’re both scared to say something about it. there’s probably a chance effie feels something too, i’m guessing they just really have good chemistry and have easy conversation so there’s just a natural attraction there. i think this would be a fun plot, because it could be dragged out or it could blow up in their faces. (i would love for this role to be like a cis female or even a nonbinary, just because it would make sense why they wouldn’t tell her bc maybe she doesn’t know whats going on in her head and they might not know that she isn’t straight and she’s just closeted and yeah).

classic enemies. — like i said, i think it’d be very hard for effie to have an enemy. i imagine this person just genuinely doesn’t like how bubbly or easy-going effie is. this plot would probably work with someone who is more of a nihilist, and annoyed with people who try to be as positive as she does. so i’m guessing their feud probably started like that, and as effie kinda caught the vibe that they were petty towards her, she decided to start acting the same back. and now its just like, this snowball effect, where they both refuse to talk it out because they both are forever irritated with each other. (i think this plot could be developed a different way depending on which muse wants it, so just hmu and we can work it out).

OOOOOHHHHH!!!! Red Dead Redemption 2!!! I’ve heard FANTASTIC things about that!! (*°▽°*)  To be honest I missed a lot of the game world (never had any of the PS, and latest thing I had was a Wii), so I don’t think I ever heard about Red Dead Redemption 1? And if I did it didn’t seem important at the time. But now with the release of RDR2 I’ve heard WONDERS about it, everyone going nuts about its release, and it being a fantastic game!!!

ok so 170722 when he finally showed after his injury nd was at the airport by himself,, and all his fansites were there to welcome him back :(( i was crying like a lil btch that day even more than when i cried the day i found out about his injury… it was 2 whole ass weeks and we didnt hear anything about him or his condition and i was so stressed it was the worse two weeks of my life i was so depressed and it was a Bad Time. it really felt like two years it was the worst… and when he came back looking all soft w his white tee and black pants and soft hair i just mclost it wtf!!! i was so fucking happy nd seeing him all better and just seeing his face,,, god i could have won The Happiest Person in The World award bc i fking was . ill never forget that day :-(

What brushes do you use in fire alpaca??  i dont do much in firealpaca (esp not lately lol) but when i did use it a lot i just used the fill bucket and the standard/default brush to fill in gaps n such lol! i dont really draw in it, i used flash/adobe animate for the lineart and just fill in color in firealpaca :3

when did you start animating?   uhh when i was around 11 or 12 when i started digital art i guess? i just used photoshop for the longest time then got flash when i was like 15 or so

i really like your art style gosh darn!!! everythings so fluid and stylized and nice aaa (also ur animations are goals) do u have any tips for someone still developing their artstyle????  WAH TYSM!!!!! compile art you already like and incorporate aspects from their styles into yours, BUT dont limit urself to one style! if u like something then try it out! do straight up copies (as PRACTICE, DONT CLAIM IT as your own ofc) of stuff you like to see how they work and what you’re clicking with. spending time on fundamentals is MEGA helpful so keep going back to that too! USE REFERENCES!!! draw …from ur soul…what makes u ..FEEL good

 how do you make that burn effect on your lineart? it makes it your pieces look sharper and even more interesting, it’s super cool!!  when i used to use flash for lineart and firealpaca for coloring a lot, setting the lineart layer on BURN with the coloring layer seeping a lil past the lineart would get this effect automatically 

(like on the whiskers. u can see it gets a brighter brown(?) and the warmer yellow on the ears)

but since then i’ve been using sai+photoshop more so i just do it manually! i’ll use this funny pic of me and my cat as an example lol

then i open it in photoshop

and i mess with the pink line layer’s blending mode..color burn usually does the trick but depending on the Look you’re going for, saturation, multiply and overlay have some similar effects that look cool. 

i also usually get rid of the outermost edge of pink line that’s visible around the lineart, just so it looks a little cleaner? to do that you just select around your lineart, increment/expand selection, and delete/erase in the selection of the pink line layer

What do you use to animate? And, a more specific question, how do you make transparent animated gifs? adobe animate 2017! (previously flash) i export my animation from flash as a png sequence then open it in photoshop, where the background will be transparent and save it as a gif from there nyaaa

Like, when you draw shapes for a certain character, it looks rlly like it fits with the character’s personality n stuff!! ( e.g: Your Love Live! drawings!! The characters look so good in your style.) I’ve always admired how u did that n was hoping for some tips maybe?? Anyways, have a good day!!💛💖💟💜💝💞💖 HOOGA!! TYSM!!! and YEA you basically guessed it, i mainly just think about the character’s personality and translate that into a shape or Pheeling… 

especially for anime characters i look at the Very Subtle differences in the character’s original design..or possibly canon implications…for example kotori has slightly different eyes (it also says on her wiki page she has soft droopy eyes!) so i make sure to incorporate that Detãile

 anime wiki pages that have details like that is nice, for love live they have cute lil “charm points” which is really cool n helpful! listening to how a character is described in their world can give clues to what differentiates them which you can make more clear in your design

taking into account each characters context is good too, what they do/hobby/personality and how that could affect their appearance/posture/attitude

 YEAH its really fun to figure out certain characteristics and make it evident in their appearance! or. idk thats just what i do lol. hopefully this helps!
