"We need more gay ships that include people of color!"
The Spiderverse Fandom: does that
"Actually no, don't do that. In fact stop touching people of color and forcing themselves into gay ships!"

mfs be like, “all nonbinary people are valid!” until an afab and/or remotely fem nonbinary person who’s nblm reclaims the f slur and then suddenly it’s “you’re not nonbinary/queer enough to say that word!” or “you’re basically a straight woman!” some of you queer folks have such a weirdly cisnormative and heteronormative view of the world… like you have become the very thing you fought to destroy and it’s ACTUALLY annoying listening to you drop such awful takes.

Okay.
I was mad about S2E8, but the fan response has me worried. I'm seeing people being very uncharitable towards each other and the creators. The fandom infighting I can live with. That's fandom for you. But I am concerned about how this could impact the creators. Rant incoming, be ye warned.
First and foremost, I hope the entire creative team behind OFMD turns off their internet for a while. I'm sure they're getting absolutely mobbed right now, and they don't deserve it. I want to trust them to understand how the internet works and tune out, because this is the kind of shit that damages people. I'm genuinely scared for them.
We have got to stop making it dangerous to tell Queer stories. It's hard not to lash out when something hurts, and the internet makes lashing out so easy to do. It hurts like hell when you (reluctantly) trust a creator, and they disappoint you. But I can't think of a Queer show or creator that hasn't faced online harassment from the Queer community, and that is fucking tragic.
I didn't like S2E8. I thought it was poorly executed, especially compared to the astonishingly high-quality writing in the rest of the show. But just because I didn't think it was good, doesn't mean it has to be evil. And frankly, I hope no one involved with the show ever sees my criticism of it. As a writer, I know what kind of feedback helps, and what just hurts. My venting and analysis isn't for them, it's for me and my fellow pirate enjoyers. My feelings have a place, and DJenkins' inbox is not it. Telling a story I personally disliked is not a crime. There should be no punishment for doing it.
I trusted the OFMD team to tell a good story. That trust has taken a dent or two, because a character I cared for died in a way that was, to my mind, trite, forced, unsatisfying, and unkind. That was disappointing. I am disappointed. I can live with that. But if the creators suffer for telling Queer stories, that would be unfathomably worse. And if that scares people off from telling Queer stories in future? That would be heartbreaking.
I wish I could rage and froth about the stories I care about without worrying about collateral damage. And if those stories weren't about marginalized people, I could. That's the kicker. That's the double standard. People who create and consume status-quo-ass-kissing media don't have to worry so much about this shit. Their icons can commit terrible real-world crimes and sell memoirs about it. Mine can't even make a divisive narrative choice without getting loudly condemned straight to super-hell.
TL:DR Creators of Queer stories get held to impossible standards. Please leave DJenkins and the team alone. Online harassment = bad.
(Note: Edited for more clarity and less sensationalizing language.)

ok i know i said i dont gaf about shipcourse and syscourse and shit but uh. opinions bc i can do whatever i want
neutralship. i hold proship ideals (i guess??? idfk. ship and let ship i guess) but dont want to associate myself with the label proship because people would fucking merc me so yeah. anyone can interact idgaf but I'd appreciate not talking about more sensitive stuff with me (incest, pedophilia, rape, etc)
pro-endo. again, i do not give a shit about who interacts just dont reblog my shit with "fuck endos endos kys" shit like that. those are still people.
radqueer and transid neutral. i dont care if you're like. transhaircolour or something but like. dni if you're rcta or transharmed/harmful or transabled or whatever the fuck. also xenosatanists uh leave me alone lol
trans people do not opress other trans people and they do not access privilege the same way cis people do.
paraphilias shouldn't be demonised. thought crimes dont exist. harmful ones obviously should not be acted on.
pro-recovery, anti-forced recovery. self explanatory.
kink at pride is cool.

hstwt is insufferable
i think twitter has to be the worst platform to interact with the rest of the homestuck fandom at this point, because people genuinely do not know how to behave. it's becoming more of a cesspool and at this point, i don't even open the comments anymore because of how unfriendly things are.
i've seen so many posts today alone of people sharing their sexuality/gender/ect. headcanons with the trolls and kids, and the comments are just flaming the shit out of them because apparently how they interpret is "wrong" because it's not the general, popular headcanon that everyone else seems to have. and it happens especially on those anonymous confessions accounts. i saw someone submit their personal skin tone headcanons, and they just *happened* to headcanon gamzee as paler. it's not like there wasn't any diversity in skintones (so not like whitestuck ragebaiting), but everyone else for the most part focused on that and acted like it was some crime.
me personally, i don't headcanon gamzee as paler, but there is no reason why people should be made fun of, harassed, or made fun of because their headcanon doesn't fit everyone else's. that's literally the fun of headcanons! people should be able to have their fun and have their own vision for characters they like.
i'm just really sick of all the discourse that's continuously rinsed and repeated in the fandom (vriska as a whole, cronus/meulin/meenah/rufio with the things they've said/done during the ministrife hs and openbound, if rose and kanaya are really lesbians, if moirailegence really is platonic or romantic, race headcanons) because all we're doing is fighting and forgetting about it until someone decides to run the same topic even further into the ground.

my new years resolution is that if i see a long discourse-looking post im just scrolling past it. im so completely sick of seeing these long paragraphs of “we have to stop doing this” or “stop misusing this word” or “if you do this you suck” or whatever. were never going to get anywhere with it. i am on this website to see art of my favorite little guys, not pick apart every thing people say and do. idc if the post aligns with my beliefs or not. i will just scroll past it. dont be afraid to do this too

Let women have freaky thoughts too. I'm tired of having to act like my attraction to other women is strictly wholesome. The idea that wlw relationships are somehow less sexual by default just because a man isn't involved is so wild to me.

watching the dav discourse develop through a pair of binoculars like
these people genuinely feel like they HAVE to comment on everything and they HAVE TO HAVE TO defend themselves from perceived attacks. whether or not someone is actually attacking them.
did you fucking know that you can literally just keep things to yourself? i know these people will Literally Fucking Die if they dont say every thought that's entered their brain, but like.
shut the fuck up! just block them and move on!! stop looking for arguments its not fucking good for your health!!!

i'm sorry but cis women can't be transfem. it's impossible to gatekeep "transfem" as a term and everyone accusing anyone of gatekeeping should shut up. use whatever words you want to describe your experience, god bless your heart, nobody can stop you. that doesn't change the fact that if i went to a transfem meetup and there was a genderqueer afab woman who "identified with" transfem as a label, i would be displeased by their presence! like great, good for you, i'm glad your own personal gender cosmology makes sense to you. but we're at a moment when trans women are being explicitly persecuted and demonized on a massive scale, quite often by afab people. "transfem" isn't just an identity descriptor, it's a politically contested battleground. there are people in power all over the world who want to erase transfeminity as a legitimate identifier to specifically attack amab trans people. media outlets are employing terfs across the board to scaremonger and muddy the waters and rip the floor out from under us, not just because we're "queer" but because we are transfem. yes what's done to us ripples out through the queer community, yes we're all fags to them, but right now at this point in history it is AMAB TRANSFEMS facing the tip of fascism's spear. so yeah, sorry, you don't get to wear my hat without living my struggle and then cry "oppressive new gender binary" when i tell you to fuck off. i welcome you in queer spaces, i welcome you as part of the struggle, but you're not transfem and you're not helping transfems by co-opting our terminology just because you fucking felt like it. if anything you're helping the terfs by inadvertently "reclaiming" transfemininity as something it definitionally isn't, opening the door for more "afab transfems" to deliberately act in bad faith in queer spaces. i'm not saying you're doing this, i'm saying you're a child if you think terfs are above taking a page from your book if it means delegitimizing trans women in even the tiniest of ways. there are ten million other words for queer identities, i am begging you to please let us have LITERALLY ANYTHING
I mean i guess ppl can use it if they want, not my life and it's not going to cause the total destruction of the trans community but..it quite literally doesn't make sense? The point of calling yourself transfem is to express that you were born AMAB (or intersex) but are a woman/feminine. I can't see why exactly an AFAB person would even need to call themselves that?? That would just be considered NB/genderfluid/bigender/etc. words have to mean something to make sense lol. when people hear transfem or transmasc they automatically assume it's someone who is a gender that is not their sex assigned at birth.

I think that I can confidently say that I'm the only person who during a BDSM scene was psychologically tortured by a voice recording of their partner reading bad Lex discourse playing on a loop for over two hours
