A master post about my Nameless Ghoul OC, Glacier

So this is a post about my Ghoul oc, Glacier, who will be one of the main characters in my Ghost x TF2 fan fiction when/if I post it. If you're unfamiliar with the lore behind Ghost, I do explain little bits in here. Ask me if you have questions about him! --------

This also contains some headcanons of the official Ghouls. I will make a post about the Prequelle/Impera Ghouls soon. Post begins below!

Who and what is he?

Glacier is an Air Ghoul in the band Ghost, he plays the drums and does backup vocals. While Air Ghouls usually play keys in the Ghost project (the in lore name for the band), Glacier can play piano, he is however, much more gifted at the drums, resulting in two drummers being in the band instead of just one. Since I added him to the current Ghoul line up, that makes 9 instrumentalists instead of 8. Glacier is the younger brother of Cirrus, and was summoned at the same time as both her and her girlfriend, Cumulus, all three are Air Ghouls. I haven’t really figured out what his voice sounds like yet, but it’ll most likely have a soft Australian accent to it (like myself), I also imagine that he sings kinda like Hugh Jackman in "The Greatest Showman".

 I’ll quickly list off the other Ghouls: Aether, rhythm guitarist, Dewdrop, lead guitarist, Rain, bass guitar, Mountain, drums, Cirrus, keyboard/keytar, Cumulus, keyboard and backing vocals, Swiss, semi-acoustic guitar, tambourine, backing vocals, and Sunshine, vocals and tambourine.

The majority of the stuff in here is based on my headcanons mixed with the fandoms’ ones. Any other Ghouls I mention in this are actual Ghouls, not ocs.

His pack (and a small Ghost lore dump)

Pack dynamics are generally centred around one Ghoul (or human), Glacier’s pack follows Aether and Copia, since Copia is the current leader of the Church, making him Papa Emeritus IV. To people on the outside, Ghoul packs can seem like a big polycule, but it’s something much deeper than that, it’s a relationship built on fierce loyalty for their leader. Usually a pack has multiple relationships inside of it, this is the same with this pack, there are currently 6 different relationships among the pack members. Ghouls sometimes like to sleep in a “pile” (just picture a cluster of 9 vaguely humanoid figures cuddled together), the pack leader is usually at the centre of this pile. 

Appearance

He’s around 6’1, and has a nice bit of fat to him, meaning he has stretch marks on his belly, hips, and under his arms. His hair is mostly a lovely royal blue that has hints of different shade of blue in it, the rest of the hair on his head is a dark brown, he also has a short beard (pretty much just long stubble). The fur that runs across his back, chest, shoulders, and tail is the same brown as the hair on his head. His skin is a light grey, with a large smattering of freckles across his face, arms, and shoulders. His eyes are a glowing green, with the classic slit pupils. Like most Ghouls he has pointed ears that can be moved independently (like a cat, or drawing from my inspiration, the Na’vi), he also has a prehensile tail with a spaded tip, both the ears and tail are extremely expressive. He has sharp claws on both his hands and feet, and on his feet and paw pads (cute). His chest, upper back, upper arms, and the base of his tail are covered in a layer of soft fur that, during the colder seasons, grows thicker and slightly longer (spring is a nightmare in the Abbey, if you have pets that shed you’ll understand). Like all Ghouls, Glacier has extremely sharp teeth and a rough, forked tongue. He also wears a few bits of jewelry: Three rings on his left hand, one on his right thumb, leather cuff bracelets, and two piercings on both of his ears. On his right arm is a sleeve tattoo, styled to look like the Japanese cloud design you see in art. This is in a light blue, almost white colour.

His horns are a bit different from the model, since I had limited resources on the website. They're black, with a grey gradient that gets lighter on each ridge. They also have glowing blue cracks towards the base of the horns (this will be explained later)

Ghoul qualities

Like all Ghouls, he is telepathic, this can be used by Ghouls to communicate when absolute silence is necessary, and is also used to communicate with any Ghoul who can’t or doesn’t feel like verbally speaking. Glacier also knows several forms of sign language, since Mountain uses it when he’s in his human appearance. Alright, so a general headcanon is that normally the Ghouls look like… well, Ghouls, but on tour or out in public they wear something called “glamour” which gives them a human appearance, but this also removes their abilities, such as telekinesis. All Ghouls have their own scent, Glacier’s smells like a warm summer's day with a hint of orange. Scents are a way of telling who is a pack member, mate, or friend. As an Air Ghoul, Glacier can use Air magic, along with general spells. He has an excellent sense of smell, sight and hearing, like all Ghouls. He also has great night vision.

Bit of backstory

Glacier is bisexual and transgender, and underwent an extremely painful but worthwhile transformation, using a spell designed by a few older Quintessence Ghouls and Primo. Resulting in his horns growing and cracking, revealing a glowing blue interior. The whole transformation took a while, since some of his bones were reshaped and moved. He has top surgery scars, which like his horns, glow blue, and had magic bottom surgery basically (I won't go into detail), the transformation also swapped his body from producing estrogen to testosterone.

Personality and some likes

Glacier is a shy Ghoul, and will usually stick to the back of the pack in stressful or new situations. He’s extremely quiet when meeting new people, and can take a while to warm up to them. His stage personality is vastly different, he loves hyping up the crowd during the gap before Cirice, if he is called for. He can be a very energetic drummer, and will sometimes compete with Mountain (the other drummer) to see who can perform a certain trick. At the end of a Ritual he gives away any spare drumsticks he has, as well as collecting anything that fans have made for him or the band in general (normal end of Ritual stuff). Other than that, he enjoys stargazing, swimming, cooking, and helping out with chores or just helping around. Glacier also has ADHD, and will get overstimulated in stressful environments, resulting in a flight response.

Strengths and weaknesses

Glacier, like most Ghouls, is fiercely loyal and protective of his pack and family. This is also one of his greatest weaknesses. Glacier is also a great listener and will be there for anyone to talk to.

TF2 x Ghost

A few of you may know that I ship Glacier with Engineer, and am currently planning a few fics containing them. I won't give anything away, but I will be making a fic that explains how these two completely different universes end up coming together. A little I will give away is that Glacier and Dell are a T4T relationship, and thatthe start of their relationship is really cute. I shall leave you with this image

YIPPEEE. ok im gonna give a quick autistic rundown of every ghost character, and then go on to some headcanons (under the cut). but i also highly suggest watching some lore explanation videos on youtube for more context!!

ok so. the general premise of the band ghost is that there's a satanic church known as the clergy, and they started the band to spread satan's message.

the leader/frontman of the band is given the title of papa emeritus. there have been 5 papa emerituses as of right now.

papa emeritus 0, also known as nihil, was the frontman of ghost in the '60s. he is the canonical father of the other papas (except for copia).

papa emeritus 1, also known as primo, was the frontman of ghost from 2008 to 2012. he failed to get more people interested in satanism, so the clergy replaced him with his younger brother:

papa emeritus 2, also known as secondo, was the frontman of ghost from 2012 to 2015. he also failed, and so they replaced him with the youngest of the emeritus bloodline:

papa emeritus 3, also known as terzo, was the frontman of ghost from 2015 to 2017. he gained attention, and was overall popular, but he lost sight of his mission, and was taken out by the clergy.

so, while searching for a new papa, nihil (now an old man) took over ghost for a while. this is how he was introduced to the fandom.

but eventually, the clergy found a new frontman for ghost: cardinal copia. at first, nihil was opposed to making copia papa, because he's not a part of the bloodline, but still eventually copia became papa emeritus 4, our current papa.

when copia took over the ghost project, all former papas except for nihil were killed. nihil later on died of undisclosed causes, but has since returned in the form of a phantasm (for some fucking reason).

another character you should be aware of is sister imperator, a member of the clergy, and nihil's lover from way back in the '60s. the two broke up after nihil made out with random audience members mid-show. it's also heavily theorized that imperator might be the biological mother of copia.

now, a little about the nameless ghouls:

the nameless ghouls are the masked band members of the band ghost. there have been different sets of ghouls for each era of ghost, but our current ghouls are: sodo (aka dewdrop or fire), rain (aka water), mountain (aka earth), aether (aka quintessence), and swiss (aka multi-ghoul).

there are also ghoulettes, or female ghouls! these are cirrus, cumulus, and sunshine!

it is not known wether the nameless ghouls are human or not, but the fan interpretation is that they're demons, summoned to serve the clergy.

another character you should probably know about: mr. saltarian. our newest character. all we really know about him is that he's a member of the clergy.

NOW ONTO THE HEADCANONS.

ok so. abt the massive tits thing. that would be secondo. idk why its just,,, me (and most of the fandom) are convinced secondo has big tiddies. no real reason behind it's more like a gut feeling.

all of the papas are trans. to me. specifically gender neutral primo (any pronouns), transfem secondo (they/she), genderfluid terzo (he/she), non-binary copia (they/vem). nihil is a he/him lesbian and that is all i have to say on that. same with the ghouls, except they're all agender to some degree, since they don't understand the human experiance of 'gender identities'. none of them care what pronouns they're referred to by, but he/theys and she/theys and obscure neopronouns are preferred.

copia is very very very autistic, i feel like most people can get behind that. constantly wearing gloves, little to no facial expressions, actively failing at social interactions. they just like me fr.

this is kinda off-topic but my favourite ghoul is mountain. idk why i just rlly like them.

oh also a weirdly specific headcanon of mine: sister imperator is estonian. i just feel like that's true.

REGARDING GHOST:

I will occasionally reblog the Nameless Ghouls unmasked, but I will always tag it as "#unmasked ghoul". Please block this tag if you do not want to see anything regarding the actual musicians! This applies to posts that actually feature their social media, or even pictures of them. I will also use this tag just as an in case if/whenever I draw them maskless (even in ghoul form).

Just so we are clear: I call Era 5's lead guitarist "Sodo" instead of "Dewdrop". I've seen some people on Tumblr upset about people calling him something different. Please do not message me about this. It is my preference and that's that. Any asks/DMs regarding this will be deleted. Thank you.

When writing for the Papas, I will swap between masculine and feminine terms for GN!Reader. Italian is very unforgiving, I know this. I will also occasionally use Italian-American slang. These are words I grew up hearing from both my grandmother and mother and they feel more "right" in some terms. Those will always be translated, no matter how many times I use them because if you try to translate it through Google or something else, nothing will pop up.

Every request filled for Ghost will be put into The Papa's Favorite or Into the Ghouls' Den on my AO3! However, not all fics posted to my AO3 make their way back to Tumblr.

I plan on eventually doing Mary Goore content, but only after I get through my current requests and fics that have already been planned, unless he is requested.

When making fics for Bully, I try to incorporate actual dialogue from the characters. This helps me keep them more in character, and also gives me a good opportunity to use any cut beta dialogue or actual interactions.

On the topic of cut beta content: The Boy's Dorm in my fics will always be the beta version. This is really just the same layout as the Girl's Dorm, but with a more masculine color palette (brown/tan walls with blue carpet).

wait what happened to ghost? i'm not a fan i'm just curious

Sorry this is probably more than you were wanting to hear but it requires a little background bc w the theatrical nature of the band and changing lineup it can be a little hard to get the picture at first

The musicians who have been known since the start of the band only as the Nameless Ghouls officially, who were contractually obligated to not discuss their place in Ghost publicly, were granted the go-ahead by Tobias, the frontman and founder, to post unmasked photos and confirm their involvement with Ghost earlier this week!

Historically Tobias has had issues arise with previous ghouls including some that culminated in the rewriting of contracts and a lawsuit. It’s kinda complicated but Tobias’s stance on it as stated in an interview from some years ago was that HE wasn’t even supposed to be publicly known (but was revealed due to the legal battle), and most of any given crowd probably didn’t even know who HE was, not to mention he basically coordinates everything, writes most of the music, makes the financial decisions, takes the big risks etc so he didn’t like the idea of, essentially anybody he chooses to employ as a musician, getting to make themselves the faces of the band and get to represent them as a whole without contributing much and without being part for that long when Tobias has spent so long staking so much into it. From what I’ve heard some previous ghouls were downright difficult to work with too but I don’t know much detail on that.

He’s had the same gaggle of ghouls now since I think about 2016?? With some coming and going. Ghost is obviously not the only project they’ve worked on so over time their identities were found out but most fans in the know have been very respectful of the rules they’re held to as well as the immersion of other fans who don’t know who they are and don’t want to.

Tobias is pretty good friends with some of them including Per Eriksson (known as Fire/ Dewdrop Ghoul by fans) and recently during shows called him by a nickname he has out of the band, Sodomizer, so a lot of fans were thinking that pointed to them unmasking. Him relaxing the contract and obscuring of their identities is a huge deal not only as it kinda solidifies placement in the band but shows a huge amount of trust on Tobias’s part. Most of the ghouls are still pretty small artists, at least one of which even having a Patreon for support, so it feels great to know that they can now claim their place in the band to the world which will undoubtedly lead to many more opportunities for them- this is a wonderful thing for their careers. Maybe we could even start to see them in Ghost content like the chapters (webisodes on their Youtube that contain some of the lore)!

Some people still don’t want to know their identities/ faces as they like the fictional element and while I won’t hold that against people who are respectful about it I honestly do find it a bit selfish. On stage you’re still seeing their personas just like you’re seeing Papa and not Tobias. Suspension of disbelief is still possible- when I know an actor in a movie it doesn’t destroy the character for me. I also already knew their faces and identities when I drew my ghoul face headcanon. This is 100% a good thing and could lead to not only better things for the ghouls and from the band itself, so I just find it a little dumb to try so hard to deny them as individuals lol. They deserve their recognition.

I am in desperate need to distract myself. So here, lets slap together more ghost headcanons. This batch is a bit more wolrdbuildly, in general headcanons.

-Longstanding tradition in the ministry dictates that the Nameless Ghouls are supposed to be servants, essentially. Unheard, unseen when possible, and overall unobtrusive. There to be cogs in the machine of the ministry.

Of course Terzo, and later Copia, both blow that tradition out of the water. Sorry not sorry, Imperator. Neither of them liked that tradition very much.

-Most ghouls live in an extensive network of catacombs under the abbey. They've made it quite cozy down there, really turning it into their own home on earth. The catacombs are difficult for humans to traverse, as they are dark and there is no available map anymore.

In fact the amount of humans that have been trusted to be escorted through the catacombs can be counted on one hand

-There are several stipulation made in a contract with Hell at the church's founding for the care of ghouls.

-Multi ghouls are the most common ghouls that are summoned, as their care needs are less specific. It also helps they are the most common type of ghoul.

-Elemental ghouls require the most specific care, as they need direct access, in some form or another, to their given element. Going without will eventually lead to a rapid decline in their health.

-Quintessence ghouls are extremely rare to be summoned. Most of them becoming part of a pack long before becoming eligible for summoning. There is no outside force that can make a quintessences ghoul willingly leave their pack.

-Having a position in Ghost is coveted by many ghouls. Especially those that wish to see more of life on earth. The diocese on which the abbey sits only allows for so much in life experience.

-When not doing work for Ghost the nameless ghouls that form the band are still expected to participate in various chores. Rarely do the ghouls have the same job from day to day

-Aether has worn a lot of hats in the ministry since his summoning, most commonly he has been a healer. Working in the abbey's infirmary. He was pulled from there to be part of Ghost because of his (assumed) loyalty to the church.

-Mountain works in the greenhouses, his specialty is in maintaining the various herbs used in medicine and spellwork by the church.

Hello! I am very much enjoying myself, thanks for asking!

I've found that everyone here are genuinely very nice people, fantastic artists, brilliant writers and hilarious shit-posters.

This blog used to be a whump blog, but I'm keeping that interest to my writing prompt side-blog @promptsforyourwhumpfic, so I apologise in advance to the people who originally followed this blog for that reason - I've been on this hell site for like... seven years now lol (maybe longer, I've lost track)

Since joining the fandom I've absolutely loved all the headcanons and fan theories etc. Turns out I'd really missed the adrenaline that comes with discovering a new band. It's a feeling I had when I first got obsessed with Muse (they'll forever be my favourite, but the fandom isn't as invested as the tumblr 'ghesties'.)

Idk, this whole fandom is just very creatively inspiring. Like, I've made more headcanons and written far more in the last few months than I have for any other fandom in the years I'd been involved in them. You can probably tell by my obsession with Mountain. Idk, I just see a lot of myself in him... I've also been working on two cosplays.

I'll be going as an Impera-era nameless ghoul for MCM next month, and I'll be going as a Cardinal for my first Ritual in June. This band has me in a chokehold, I swear - I literally booked a holiday to Germany just to see them because they're not doing any non-festival shows in the UK this summer. It's literally going to be the best week of my life because I'm seeing Ghost and Muse in the same week lol

I actually used to be really certain Sodo/Dew and Cirrus were tied as my favorites, but recently Swiss has been really winning my heart.

Then again, that's just the current ones, cause otherwise I'm really fond of Omega and Mist and Cowbell, we cannot forget Cowbell

But if I had to pick just one, I guess I'd go with Swiss because he scratches the creature itch in my brain. I too want my little stage of shame where I can go nuts. Also we smile the same

21. Do you like that the fandom has given all of the Ghouls and Ghoulettes names, as well as various headcanons and backstories, or do you prefer them staying nameless and void of any identity?

Sort of 50/50 on this! I like the names, I've always thought they were cute and a great way to tell them apart; I know we're supposed to see them as random ghouls and not stable, reoccurring characters, but it's just not possible, come on.

I like headcanons, love when the fandom bases them on little things we actually see the ghouls do on stage. Appearance/magic power headcanons aren't always my cup of tea, but sometimes they're fun too.

But I'm not huge on backstories ;v; maybe it's just because of my own very specific interpretation of them, but it's just not my thing. But I'm honestly very chill with everyone's personal ideas and still love to see them, there's just some things I enjoy more than others

Hiii!! We are Cirice's Ghouls, an introj-heavy AuDHD (autism+adhd) DID system (I think we are also polyfrag? I'm not sure, don't quote me on that)!! Our main special interest is the Swedish band Ghost, and the Nameless Ghouls that play at the live shows specifically!! So we'll definitely be posting about that a lot.

I'd like to hear about your Steven Universe-inspired Ghost au Ghouls.

-Is this because I compared the ghouls to Rubies? 😁 But no, yeah, I briefly actually flirted with the idea of a Ghost crossover when I was just getting in to Ghost. The whole “one white eye” thing the Papas had going made me think of a gem that kept getting poofed and reformed. I can’t remember what Gem name I gave the Papas, but like I said, they were all actually the same Gem who had undergone different reformations. Their guards were Obsidians who formed to look like the Ghouls. Technically obsidian isn’t a Gem but neither are Pearls. And the “Snowflake” Bismuth mentioned in her debut ep was p clearly a ref to snowflake obsidian. So it works. 

-In my Ghost headcanon au worldbuilding whatever you call it (my “spooky ideas” tag), I do think the ghouls are very low tier, made to be ordered around sorts of demons. Within the heirarchy of Hell, ghouls are even below the demons that go rearrange furniture so people will hurt there toes. Ghouls are “lent out” by Hell without much ceremony because of their lack of status. If you want to summon a named demon you had better have the proper incentives and sigils. But ghouls? They’re literally nameless. Names carry power in magical worlds as is my understanding, so to be a nameless ghoul is to be the most cheap labour run of the mill demons. 

-Unlike Rubies ghouls cannot combine their forms into a greater Ghoul, but like Rubies, ghouls can exhibit a certain ammount of control over or generation of an element, hence their elemental labels. Ghouls seem plenty dull to humans due to the fact that they don’t speak in the conventional sense- and if a ghoul does try to engage a human in conversation, their telepathic speech makes a great deal of humans get nauseated and who wants to put up with that? And the fact that they don’t exhibit feelings in a conventionally understandable sense (standing shoulder to shoulder, ruffling their wings, no hugs or high fives, no tail wagging) also makes people assume they’re dullards, meant for only the most menial of tasks. Load that truck. Mop that floor. Clean those windows. Move that furniture. But obviously ghouls are more intelligent than anyone cares to give credit.
