For someone only vaugely familiar with “Percy Jackson” - I’ve got a question about the mechanics of the verse - how do they explain the differences between the myths and what goes in the series?

Full disclosure - I haven't read the books in years so if anyone has a better answer to this, then please reply :)

So in the Percy Jackson universe, myths are stories told about ancient times (similar to our world) except that they are actually real and actually did happened, and they still exist. The gods are real, Odysseus and his odyssey actually happened, etc. Only now in the modern day of Percy Jackson, mostly everything has adapted to the modern world. So you have the gods living in America - Mount Olympus is now on the 600th floor of the Empire State Building. Hermes runs the postal service. The Amazons run Amazon.com in the Amazon Rainforest. In the tv show, Ares starts fights on Twitter.

So when modern-day demigods like Percy go on quests, they will encounter monsters and other mythical stuff but in a modern setting. In fact, each book in the series follows a Greek hero's journey (a fact that I only learned recently haha), but set in the modern day and with modern twists. For instance, Book 2, The Sea of Monsters, follows the story of The Odyssey. So they encounter Circe just like Odysseus did, but now she runs a spa resort (if I'm remembering correctly). And instead of turning men into pigs, she turns them into hamsters. So modern demigods can use their knowledge of myths to defeat or outsmart the mythical creature or deity that they encounter.

However, regular mortals aren't able to see any of this because of the Mist. The Mist basically makes anything magical or mythical related look "normal" in our eyes. So for instance, it can make a demigod swinging a sword look like they're swinging a baseball bat. It can even hide monsters from demigods, so they won't realize they're there until too late.

Yknow, I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been some sort of weird horror/adult adaptation of The Magic Tree House.

Like, an It style thing. And I don't know why that surprises me. The books weren't particularly scary, and I don't know if I ever read the origins book, so I don't know how it ended up there or why those kids are there in it all the time.

But it's still really weird to me. Like, it feels like the perfect recipe for some sort of weird, dystopian horror. An isekai horror, if you will. These two early-to-mid teenagers getting shoved into the past or future or different dimension or however you have it. And they need to get home or whatever.

some nico headcanons I have

Nico’s fighting style is mostly greek, but while on the run in the maze Nico learned to fight by raising the dead and having them teach him. Because of that it’s not uncommon for him to do something that surprises and terrifies everyone

ever since the Jar Incident Nico’s become a lot closer with the Ares kids

just like the Athena kids have arachnophobia all Ares kids have some degree of claustrophobia which can either kina suck or “the bunk beds are going to kill me if I have to sleep on them”

Nico grew out of the Ghost King nickname and he thinks it’s cringe but it’s been so long that everyone calls him it. It makes him think of Minos and the worst time in his life when he was living on the streets and so so angry and full of grief and hate.

He thanks the gods every day that Minos found him instead of Luke during that time because he knows, he knows that if Luke had offered him revenge against Percy back then he’d have taken it in a heartbeat. He’d have taken it because the gods needed to pay for letting his sister die.

Along those lines, Nico likes McDonalds because he had to like it. An ten/eleven year old can’t get much money his only options for food was finding change to get a happy meal or asking adults for money for food and praying they’d take pity on him

Nico collects sisters like mythomagic cards. Fuck with him and he’s the least of your worried when you have Annabeth, Piper, Hazel, Rayna, Clarisse and just about every girl in Camp Half Blood and Camp Jupiter standing behind him ready to fuck up your entire life.

Nico can always see Thanatos, sometimes he stares at nothing but he’s having a staring contest with Thanatos. He does this a lot when Will’s trying to save a camper’s life. It works far too well. No one really minds, if anything it’s funny because Thanatos loses nearly every time, even when he doesn’t it’s usually enough of a distraction that Will’s stabilized the camper and Thanatos isn’t needed

I have a question. How many of you BELIEVE in Glammike theory? To be honest, when I returned to the fandom, this became my favorite theory. Imagine what the plot twist would be if it turned out that all this time Glamrock Freddy was possessed by Michael, who was the protagonist in many parts of fnaf! And the most interesting thing is that this theory may well be true given the fact that the Mega Pizzaplex was built over a Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place. It just dawned on me that by the words "my friends are here" Freddy most likely meant not glamrocks but animatronics from fnaf 6! And his phrase "I am not me" still leads me to confuse me...

Referring to this theory, I now all the time think that one of the reasons why Freddy helps Gregory is because he reminds him of his younger brother. I even had a theory that Gregory is the reincarnation of C.C.. (But that sounds a bit dumb to be honest. Or maybe not.Idk)

two years!! :D it’s been two years since my final curtain call and seven years since Jimlingss began! Seven years!!! Now that’s a crazy yet meaningful number!

Hello to everyone reading this message :D hopefully you remember me (it’s ok if you don’t) and for those who care, hopefully this is a treat! just a quick update on my life — I successfully completed my first year of law school and what a whirlwind it’s been. 

I’ve had so many ups and downs in the past year and I honestly feel like I’ve changed a lot. like evolved from pichu to pikachu. It was my first time moving away from home, away from my parents, and making so many friends. it’s been 20% bitter and 80% sweet. overall, I feel like I’ve learnt so much about myself and became a lot more stable in who I am.

school is hard but completely manageable. luckily, I don’t think my choice was wrong. there are days I quite enjoy what I’m learning. I got 2 years left in the game. soon (hopefully) I’ll be making the big bucks $$$ and I’ll be able to fund my sugar baby dreams (except I’ll also be my own sugar mommy). Although my dating life is as stale as always with 0 movement, I’ve become close with a handful of folks that I hold dearly to my heart. guess I’m in my friendship arc hahahaha

funny enough, I actually came back to this blog out of my own volition 2 weeks ago and re-read some of my stories. I feel so nostalgic. some of my stories really slap ngl. anyway, I really miss creative writing so much. Fortunately, there’s a few extracurriculars at school that allow me to write creatively so it’s somewhat of an outlet for me. it’s not fully satisfying but it’s something!!

I regularly come back to tumblr to check messages and do plagiarism checks lol. Speaking of which, I’ll take this time to answer some messages in my inbox.

okayyy so im definitely not the most well versed with everything surrounding jkr, and im kinda just yelling into the void with this one, but I think its kinda funny how she's a radfem that often focuses on the men in her stories, reducing even the female characters with potential to love interests, shames women for fighting for justice (the whole S.P.E.W. thing was not it), uses the bigotry a woman faced from her best friend as a point in his tragic backstory, leans into stereotypes of girls being catty, dumb, and worthy of ridicule if they express romantic desire (Fleur Delacor and Lavender Brown), and gives many of her male characters some form of backstory to at least semi justify their actions, while women like Bellatrix Lestrange and Dolores Umbridge are just crazy evil bitches. idk just makes it feel like some of the shit she spouts on twitter is less about womens rights and more about her total aversion to trans people.

CrookedStar and Leafpool

Two cats who put loyalty to their clan above everything! Who gave up so much for their family and loved them with their whole hearts no matter how much it hurt! Cats who were lead astray and screwed over by dead people they trusted, who were lead in so many different directions by so many forces and endured it all because they just wanted to do the right thing! Cats who would genuinely do ANYTHING for their siblings, who were so so proud of them. They were shamed by those closest to them for perceived shortcomings they could do nothing about! They stood up for themselves and decided to forge their own paths!

AUGH I'M SO NORMAL ABOUT THEM!! If CrookedStar lived a stupidly long time, she'd remind him of his daughter and would've stood up for her during HollyLeaf's speech.

If the Erins weren't COWARDS they would've had CrookedStar talk to LeafPool in her dreams. They would talk for hours and hours and he'd be such a good listener. I think they deserved to be besties.

He would've loved MothFlight and Leafpool's relationship.
