Scott Westerfeld is up there with Suzanne Collins as "Sci Fi futuristic dystopia authors who had Something To Say And Damn Well Dedicated Themselves To That Something."

I just wanted to make a post showcasing some of my favorite illustrations by Keith Thompson for the Leviathan Trilogy.

The art went so hard in these books, it’s crazy. The plot is basically an alternate universe WW1 about the major two powers, the Darwinists, and the Clankers. The Darwinists genetically engineered animals to fight for them creating huge flying whale battleships, while the Clankers made huge robot mechs and powerful guns. A few historical people and places show up in these books, like Nikola Tesla.

But my favorite parts of the books were the art, truly breathtaking, it was beautifully grotesque at times. But that’s not unexpected, after all Keith Thompson helped create the design of Moder from The Ritual!

Are you familiar with the book series Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld? It's an alternate history series set in WW1 that features plenty of fascinating bio-engineered creatures.

Read up until the part where they captured h_rd and brought her aboard the ship, and thinking about that post from years ago that coined the term "bottom storage" for storing a queer (coded) villain in a prison with a translucent wall.

H_rd is now in bottom storage

on the one hand i would love to see a movie/tv version of Uglies but on the other hand i don't see how it could work because "a world where everyone is pressured to look exactly the same and everyone is so ridiculously conventionally attractive that the standards of beauty are totally warped and people act like someone who looks slightly different from that standard is 'unconventional' or 'homely'" is literally just hollywood. like the whole point is that the "uglies" are regular teenagers who look like any kid you see at school, conditioned from birth to believe they're absolutely hideous but in reality they literally just look normal and WHO would hollywood cast in those roles??? some gorgeous 20something with perfect skin and hair and makeup! it wouldn't work because no one onscreen looks like a normal person!

Today on “books I adore but don’t see talked about nearly enough”, does anyone else still think about the Leviathan trilogy by Scott Westerfeld daily? Because oh my gosh I love those books.
