I need to say something...

I've seen quite a few Buddie fans confused and ashamed on my dash lately. Mostly because they feel guilty for not liking Tommy or the bucktommy storyline for various reasons. Some of them even feel anxiety about how the storyline will proceed and resolve. I responded to one of those posts earlier and I'm going to post my response here again for everyone who needs to hear it:

Never feel bad about not liking a character or a storyline. This is fandom and in my opinion all takes are valid. Take it from someone who has been in various fandoms for 24 years now. (Yes, I am that old ;)

If it will make you feel a little better: I don't particularly like Tommy that much either. I mean, I don't hate him but I feel pretty neutral about him. I can superficially see that he is a good guy that likes Buck. And I love him for making Buck feel good and helping him out of the closet. Let it be known that I'm a big fan of bi Buck and I'm so happy that 911 went there with him.

But personally I'm pretty 'meh' about Tommy and when he leaves in a couple of episodes I'll be okay with that. I've also seen some people that have fallen in love with him and want to keep him around. All these takes are valid and more than okay. As long as you respect other people's opinions and thoughts about a character it's all okay. Don't go out of your way to hate-post about him, because you aren't a 14-year old and it's just really distasteful. But, you also can't force yourself to like a character if the feeling is not there.

The same goes for a storyline. I'm okay with the bucktommy storyline at this moment, but I do want it to be temporary, because I want Buddie in the future. And yes, if bucktommy were here to stay, I would be very disappointed in that storyline. I haven't been watching, waiting and hoping for Buddie for 6 years to end up with both guys in another relationship.

And again, that is a valid take and those are valid emotions. It's all okay as long as you are respectful towards the people that do love Buck and Tommy together.

I cope with it by curating my fandom experience. I block haters (whether they hate on Buddie or Bucktommy), avoid bucktommy fanfiction and stay away from the bucktommy tag on Tumblr.

I don't avoid posts on my dash or in the Buddie or spoiler tag that are also tagged bucktommy. I read them, like or respond to some of them. Sometimes I even reblog them if they are interesting and have a link to Eddie or Buddie.

Lastly, don't give up on Buddie yet. I have a feeling things might get interesting the next couple of episodes. Only time will tell if I'm right about this.

And that would explain the sudden admiration to the new white man on screen to be paired with the other white man who is by chance also the fan favorite.

Don't get it twisted, I love Oliver and Oliver loves Ryan and Eddie, but one has to wonder about the audience's choice of favorite even as they call against racism and for equality and with the same breath hate on a regular poc character.

I'm hoping this bizarre season ends on a good note, because otherwise S8 may be the last season.

Madney taking in Mara was a prediction i had and saw floating around and im so glad we were right. It’s reaffirming just how much Chim and Hen are family for them to do that for them but also for that poor girl I can’t wait to see that relationship blossom

It’s interesting this anon seems to be confused how buck Tommy people are being told they are fetishizing things, because all I keep seeing is Buck Tommy endgamers posting how hot they are. I’m usually a negative person when it comes to my expectation for the show tbh and the only thing i truly want is Bi Buck, I don’t care who with so your confidence that that’s really gonna happen kinda gives me hope. Hopefully we’ll see a hint of that in this next episode with Tommy.

I'm happy to say that you're in the right place, nonnie. I've gained a reputation for being "negative" and "a hater" (lol, middle school insults) because I no longer post about what I want to happen, just what I believe will based on whatever info we get through the media and production - and unfortunately for the hardcore Buddie shippers, my conclusions have painted Buck and Eddie as bros until further notice. As far as Buck and Tommy is concerned, *because* I go with my gut instead of along with what someone else is "predicting", I can honestly say that I would not keep the discussion going if I didn't believe it was a realistic outcome. They surprisingly have a lot of followers though, enough to get hate comments- the hate comments are Finn and Isiah on anonymus accounts, Esme eventually joins in too because John keeps showing her the memes before they post them and it’s a nightmare.

Arthur gets really mad about it, like he’s seething- at every family function he rants about the anon haters on his meme page. It’s really hard for Finn and Esme to hold back laughter

Arthur becomes obsessed with boxing after seeing Bonnie Gold fight

He's fought before in the ring and it does not go well as we all know- He starts to take a more passive role once he realized how out of hand he gets when he fights himself

He goes to every single fight he can- If theres two fights happening on his day off he will be at both of them in the front row cheering on his favorite fighter

I never expected to see the recent.. news, and I probably never would've, because even if you told me that he'd be dead, I honestly wouldn't believe it. I never could've expected this outcome and it may have been foolish to believe, but I did truly think that he would've survived. He was just such a great person, someone who you felt comfortable with, who could make you laugh, and was honestly one of the safe spaces here on the internet no matter how many toxic people are after him, and it hurts to know that people have died before to unfortunate circumstances and that haters have just treated it like it was nothing and continue to slander their reputation, and that this would be no different.

I just want to say, that no matter what they say, or if it comes out somehow that Technoblade was a bad person, we shouldn't let that take over of how we think of him. He will forever be the youtuber whose spent months just to win the #1 spot of a rank in a video game. The guy who was crazy good at PVP, and we shouldn't let anything anyone else say slander that.

It just hurts so badly, and I know that those who knew him closest are hurting worse having known him personally. If anyone's reading this, please don't forget to take a break for your own mental health, to be able to get past this hurdle and be able to move on. That is not meaning to forget about him, no, but to be able to move on and grow. It's gonna be such a harsh while and I can't help but worry about how everyone's gonna take this. How Phil, Wilbur, Tommy, and so on. I don't know if they were aware of how bad it had gotten or not, but nobody can truly expect death. It comes when you least expect it. I just hope that they can take a break, take as long as they need to heal- if they even need to quit the platform be okay. I hope we'll all be able to continue on and grow from this experience.

I don't really know what to do at the moment. I've just been kinda on and off and sort of just using YouTube as a distraction. I've been catching up onto Hermitcraft recently so I just.. continued that? One moment I'm okay and then the next I'm just a waterfall. It's awful and I just. I want to do something for Techno, as like a tribute, but I don't want to just be 'using' the fame of his death and somehow taking advantage of that or being disrespectful, but it feels wrong still to just.. not do anything.

We're really deep in this kinda rant now, but I apologize if this is how you've found this out. I'm assuming it's all over twitter and any other social media platform at this point, and all kinds of fanfic writers are going on hiatus' or completely discontinuing books due to it.

The only thing I'm honestly decent at would be writing and honestly, I don't know if I should try. I'm completely split. I want to do something but I'm not sure if that'd be just.. disrespectful, writing about a dead guy y'know?

So I've just been kinda telling fanfic writers that I'm subbed to in the comments that it's okay if they discontinue or if they decide not to and that they still wanna write it. Honestly I have no room here to decide for people and that's the same for me, in where I have to decide on my own. I might try to do it, I might not, but we're all in this together regardless.

But hopefully his end will be soon, because at this point there's literally nowhere else for his character to go unless they finally decide to make him an antagonist (a WILLING antagonist, please). Especially since he's....not even on covers anymore lmao

Why would you read and nitpick the words of someone you profess to despise and hate so much, as soon as he posts them?/ There is something called maddiction, an addiction to righteous outrage. "The more outraged we are at others, the purer we feel. The purer we feel, the more we assume it's our duty to be outraged at others." For these people outrage at someone else's failings evaporates all recollection of their similar failings. When outraged, they feel righteous which leads to more outrage.

Anon 7: For me the issue is the lack of awareness to say that the show is about denouncing lack of consent while at the same time violating the consent of the main victim. Seb makes it worse with his post, especially by tagging Pam. I really hope that the Emmy nom was worth it because this project has made a lot of people look at him in a negative light and it might hinder his career in the long run.

Anon 8: All these people who are painting Pam as the victim don’t realise that she herself doesn’t care for ‘victims’. During the Harvey Weinstein case, she straight up blamed the women for the assaults and idk what to call this awful behaviour. Of course what happened to her was terrible, but no need to paint her as a saint. Also she still has a good relationship with Tommy as far as we know.

Anon 9: I watched P&T and I kindda understand why he wrote and tag Pam in recent his IG post. The show was about Pam and Tommy was not a good person but he was also a person who loved Pam. I assume ppl who complaint didn’t watch the show so they will not understand and I got it. And refer to Reddit post, it the same user who seem to cancel or witch hunt Seb. They post negatively about Seb many time. So it was just a hate post, nothing interesting there.

Anon 10: Why would you read and nitpick the words of someone you profess to despise and hate so much, as soon as he posts them? / My favorite part is when they show up in his comment section as soon as he posts, preaching, screeching and ranting, like he's right there and can listen to their bullshit and vile insults. They look like the proverbial madman talking to the walls, but they call this unhinged behaviour "calling him out". Like he's not fed up with their insanity since 2018, lol.

Anon 11: The staircase too. The family said they were traumatized again by the series. No one is sending hate to the series. / The Staircase would be a good example if you necessarily want to be "outraged" by a show inspired by real life events. It was a murder - which, whatever you might say, is more serious than a sex tape -, the family is against it, and, what is worse, they tried to contact the family after filming the series. However, never in a million years would cross my mind to hate the actors.

Anon 12: "I get what he was trying to say, he just used to many words to convey it." Look, he knows he's not winning. This was his one last chance to really thank everyone involved and to again direct people to what he thought was important about the show. He did, and if you honestly believe mentioning Pam or tagging her is some huge deal that deserves cancelling him again instead of a kind, inclusive gesture toward her, there's something very, very wrong with you.

The Ledge #572: New & Old

This week's show was all set when some tragic news changed a good portion of the broadcast. Yes, there was still the mix of old and new tunes that had been originally planned. But I could not help but make room for a couple of remembrances of fabulous artists who had passed away in recent days.

The first death was Jack Lee, who got his start in The Nerves, a band that also featured Paul Collins and Peter Case. A song he wrote for that band, "Hanging on the Telephone", was later made famous, and he also wrote hits for Paul Young ("Come Back and Stay") and Suzi Quatro ("You Are My Lover"). He passed away on May 26 of colon cancer.

The other tragic passing hits hard. Throughout the past few years, Justine Covault's music has been a regular feature of The Ledge. I first became aware of her with her Rum Bar Records releases as Justine and the Unclean and Justine's Black Threads. She then moved on and started Red On Red Records, a lable that regularly put out some fabulous Boston-based rock and roll. 

Earler today, her daughter, Haley, announced on Facebook that Covault had passed away, and my feed was immediately filled with remembrances from pretty much every Boston-based musician I know. She will be greatly mixed, and I hope that the handful of tracks of hers that was aired tonight will result in many discovering her talents.

I also found time to devote sets to a couple of great compilatons that have come out recently. This year's Record Store Day saw a 50th anniversary box set version of the influential Nuggets compilation. The original record may not have sold when it first came out in 1973, but there's not a garage band that has been formed since then that is not influenced by this set. The new five record set includes a record of tracks that were initially considered for the record but was bumped due to licensing. That's my focus tonight.

The other set featured is Gary Crowley's Punk & New Wave 2, a six record set that is just a joy to sit through. While most sets of this sort focus on the obvious tracks, this box succeeds because it's almost like every included track is a surprise. The big bands are represented by songs that may be considered secondary in popularity, but just as great as their best moments. Many other songs are rare treats that have not seen a reissue since their original release.

As for the "52 weeks of Teenage Kicks", I selected a version I found earlier this week on bandcamp. Al Bundie's Army is (or was?) a St. Louis band from a decade ago whose furious version is a worthy inclusion in the series. I've also replayed the verson by Jeremy Porter & The Tucos after getting the word that proceeds from that cover have raised almost $500 for Hater Kitty Army. i finally got the time and motivation (adhd smh) to finish LIFLL!! it was so fucking good esoecially the poem :D. i feel like it rounded it all out with wil actively hating poetry writing one. it was super full circle things!

ive been in love with this au idea sicne you first talked about it. i remember sitting in math class just letting the idea of this au rotate in my brain for a little while and im so glad i got to see it in a fic i was so happy when the math scene was written as a fellow math hater. this fic is so fuckign poggers and i could talk about it for hours if i could actually form coherent words when im excited about things lol

I glanced towards Tommy as I watched him read my chat. We were doing a just chatting stream together, telling my viewers on the weekend we spent together. I switched the song, singing along to it as Tommy continued the story. I leaned back in my chair, reading my chat and seeing what they were saying. There were a bunch of emotes, mostly everyone just commenting on Tommy’s story. As I read the chat, I saw a few messages from one user.

I felt my heart drop from the comments they said, the small smile on my face slowly slipping off. I don’t usually mind the hate comments, but sometimes they can get to you. I tried to ignore the chat and switched my focus to Tommy’s story, before I saw him glance at the chat.

“So yeah chat, we had a lot of fun together this weekend–” He stopped. I watched as the smile on his face fell as he furrowed his eyebrows together at the chat. Suddenly, he started shouting.

“AY CHAT WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT? Y/N IS PERFECT THE WAY THEY ARE. AY AY FUCK YOU!” I burst out laughing at his sudden outburst, but thankful at the same time for saying that. “WHERE’S PHIL? PHIL BAN THEM RIGHT NOW!!!” I laughed again, this time my head was thrown back at how hard I was cackling.

I looked towards him to find that he was smiling at me. I bit my lip, trying to contain the grin from spreading onto my face. I watched as he turned back towards my PC and continued speaking. “Seriously though chat, don’t fucking go on random streamer’s stream to go and shit on them yeah? It’s not cool,” he said. I smiled softly as he said that. We carried on with the stream.

“Alright chat! I’ll see you guys another time yeah? Bye everyone!” I waved at the camera before hitting the end stream. I turned to Tommy.

“Are you alright?” I was silent for a moment, looking into his eyes. I smiled.

“Yeah, of course I’m alright. Thanks for what you said on stream though,” I said to him. I watched as he nodded, satisfied with my answer, before pulling me into a hug. I wrapped my arms around his torso, burying my face into his hoodie. I breathed in, resting my chin on his chest, my eyes boring into his.

“You know it isn’t true though right? You don’t need to change anything about yourself,” he mumbled. I grinned, standing on my toes as my lips touched his own in a soft kiss. I pulled back, smiling.

“Yeah I know, I love you,” I said.

“I love you too.”

High School was definitely the best years of your life. You had the hottest boyfriend, the hottest friends, and the hottest people pining over you. Nobody dared to mess with you and only the ‘worthy’ were allowed to speak to you.

Most praised the ground that you walked on. Others would snarl at you in secret as you walked down the hallways. You loved the amount of attention that you have gained. All eyes were constantly on you all of the time and you fed off of it. Even your haters were still giving you attention which was exactly what you wanted.

You were a very strong spirit always having to have the last word in arguments. Your boyfriend, Johnny, was also an extremely dominant personality but he never dared challenge you. You always won, no matter what. You and Johnny had a relationship that everyone seemed to envy. Him always going all out on dates taking you to the most expensive restaurants and him buying you expensive things; you never left him out either. You would reciprocate the favors as well. Especially his birthday. You always took him to the top notch places every year and bought him one of the most expensive things on the market. Safe to say, you and Johnny Lawrence were truly a power couple.

You both supported each other with your different ideas or practically anything for that matter. You two love each other and most of the time it was shown through expensive materialistic things, but what could you say? You were a material girl and Johnny was definitely a material boy; and you two wouldn’t have it any other way.

You and your friends, Stacy, and Kristen all three in closely matching pink outfits approach Johnny and his friends. They go silent when they see you arrive. You weren’t exactly sure if they liked you or not but sadly for them you didn’t give a damn; you just liked how they always let you speak and kept their eyes on you.

“Hey, babe!” Johnny exclaims immediately putting his arm around your shoulders.

“Hey, doll,” you smile at him and you two exchange a quick kiss.

“How’s my favorite girl doing?”

You roll your eyes thinking about a girl that approached you today and said that the makeup look you were sporting today wasn’t her favorite, “Ugh, this total loser came up to me today. Guess what the bitch did?”

Johnny looks at you with concern, “Oh shit, what?”

“Said that my makeup was a total buzzkill for her!”

You hear Stacy and Kristen gasp and Johnny’s eyes widen at you, “Are you serious?”

You nod your head sadly, “Yes, babe. Ugh, I am so sick and tired of everyone constantly judging me all of the time. I mean what did I ever do to her, ya know?” you said as you knew exactly what you were about to do to her.

Johnny and everyone nods their heads and Stacy says, with total seriousness, “I totally get it. So many people are so mean to you, Y/N. I don’t understand! You are just so sweet and amazing to everyone you see!”

You see Tommy almost crack up at her statement and you look at him and say, “Something funny?”

Johnny looks at his friend with narrowed eyes, “You laughing at my girl? Where do you get off, prick?”

You loved how Johnny always protected you even turning on his own friends for you. You weren’t trying to be toxic. You didn’t usually cause fights between him and his friends, well, it depended on your mood that day as well.

“Man, I’m sorry. I was just being an idiot. No harm done,” Tommy puts his hands up.

You sigh and turn around to face Johnny and say, “It’s okay, baby. Let it go.”

Johnny decides to let it go and you all continue your conversation until someone new catches your eye. He was tan, dark haired, and seemed pretty acquainted with a girl named Ali.

“Okay, fresh meat,” you state with a smirk on your face and Johnny tries to spot him in the crowd.

Once Johnny sees him he immediately starts to feel intimidated, “Who? Him?”

Stacy says, “Oh, he’s cute!”

You nod your head, “I’ll give it to him. He’s very cute.”

“Excuse me?” Johnny says with a tinge of jealousy in his voice.

“Oh, baby, don’t worry. It doesn’t hurt to look,” you look at Johnny and then turn back around and narrow your eyes at Ali, “I see you look at her all the time,” you feign chills from disgust.

Johnny’s jaw drops, “What? I don’t!”

You chuckle maniacally, “Oh, yeah. You do. I get it. She’s totally pretty, I guess.”

Stacy and Kristen both roll their eyes at your statement with Kristen saying, “Of course he likes her. Ugh, gag me.”

You three laugh with Stacy adding, “I know. I mean, c’mon, gross.”

Tommy says, “She’s not that bad.”

You three look at Tommy practically green with envy and you say, “Then go have sex with her while you’re at it.”

Tommy just rolls his eyes and opts out of the conversation.

“Girls, I think it’s time to introduce him to the school!” You exclaim and you feel Johnny’s grip on your arm, it wasn’t too rough but enough to let you know it was a bad idea.

You turn around and look at Johnny and bat your eyelashes, “You coming?”

Johnny tenses his jaw but agrees to go with you girls.

You four walk towards the new kid like a bunch of lions to annihilate their lunch.

You see Ali tense up when she sees you walking towards and you almost laugh at her reaction but you keep your poker face.

“Hey, new kid!” You say with the sweetest voice you could muster up.

“Uh–it’s–it’s Daniel. Larusso,” he reaches out to shake your hand.

Shockingly you shake his hand back almost causing Johnny to die and come back but he was keeping his cool. You were itching for a fight and you didn’t exactly know why. But, you really loved when he went all macho.

You introduce yourself to Daniel and you introduce Stacy and Kristen as well.

Daniel looks Johnny up and down and says, “You are?”

Johnny doesn’t answer for a few seconds so you lightly hit his chest, “It’s Johnny. Lawrence,” you almost chuckle at Johnny’s response. Daniel smiles and reaches his hand out to shake Johnny’s.

Johnny says, “I’m good.”

Daniel retracts his hand awkwardly and dusts his shirt off.

Ali puts her hand on Daniel’s shoulder and says, “So what do you guys want, huh?”

You jokingly pout at her attempt of dominance and say, “Awh, how cute. Already bagged him?” You look at Stacy with sadness sarcastically and continue, “I’m sorry, Stace. There goes your shot, babe,” you turn back to Ali and your sweet poker face doesn’t falter one bit. You could tell Daniel was buying it, how hopeless he was, but Ali wasn’t buying it one bit.

Ali says, “What do you want, Y/N?”

Kristen says, “Why are you being so rude, Ali? I mean, God,” she rolls her eyes.

You put your hand out to shush your friend. Johnny continues to stand there with intimidating eyes trying to scare Daniel away from you.

You straighten your posture and say, “Nothing. We just wanted to get to know the new guy, Daniel,” you give him your award winning smile and you see Ali’s grip on his shoulder get tighter. You fed off of her tiny reaction. You loved how threatened she was by you and how Daniel was buying into your act.

“Right, sure,” Ali says.

You ignore her response and ask, “What brings you here, Daniel?”

Daniel innocently answers, “Mom thought we’d have a better life here.”

Your ears perk up at this, “Oh, really? Where do you live?”

You feel Johnny’s hand sneak into your hand and he lightly squeezes yours.

Daniel smiles, “Uh– Reseda.”

You almost laugh, of course, he had to be poor. I mean, look at the kids' clothes, tragic!

You decided to stay respectful, “Oh, that’s nice! Hope you like it.”

Ali answers before Daniel can, “What’s your angle here, Y/N? I mean this act? Can’t be serious.”

You can feel Johnny get tense not liking what she said but you look at him real quick silently telling him to calm down.

“I am serious, Ali. We just wanted to say ‘hi’ to you guys and greet Daniel.”

You saw Ali roll her eyes, “Well, hi.”

“Hi,” you were starting to get fed up with her attitude but you weren’t gonna break.

Johnny interrupts, “Well, we best get going, right babe?”

You look at Johnny, “Yeah, you’re right,” You look back at Daniel and ignore Ali, “Hope you enjoy the new school and uh– your new friend,” you chuckle.

Everyone starts to walk away and you lean in Daniel’s ear, “If you wanna hang out with a group cooler than ‘them’,” you point at Ali and make a grossed out face and continue, “just come sit with us at lunch.”

Daniel, not wanting anymore friction, “Okay, thanks for the offer.”

You all walked away and you see Johnny trying to control his anger.

You smirk and say, “What’s wrong, hon? Cat got your tongue?”

Johnny chuckles, “No. Not at all.”

You four hear the bell and head on to class with Johnny by your side. You loved seeing the people separate from each other to give you room to walk down the hallway like you two were celebrities. You two arrive at your class and you two stop at the door.

“Johnny?”

“Yeah, babe?”

“I love being popular,” you fluff your hair up and laugh.

Johnny laughs with you, “Totally. It’s pretty damn great,” Johnny hugs you so tightly he almost picks you up, “and you’re pretty damn great too, babe.”

You feel your feet hit the ground again and you say, “Ditto. But don’t mess up my hair, alright?”

Johnny starts smoothing your hair down, “Shit. Sorry.”

You two share a kiss again and practically strut into class together noticing how everyone was looking at you two; some with adoration, some with jealousy, and some with pure hatred.

Man, high school couldn’t get any better than this. Endless attention, jealousy, and pining over you and having the best boy in the school who eats out of the palm of your hand? Those were definitely perks; but being the Queen Bee was truly the biggest perk of them all.
