Sorry for getting back to you so late! I’m the anon who asked about Smallville and when you think I should stop. I’m really enjoying it so far. I just finished season one and am starting season two. Clark and Lana had me from the jump, like it’s been so long since a pairing has had chemistry and has hooked me quickly lol. I don’t mind Chloe and Clark, but I also feel like they’re better as friends. At least now regarding season one. I really like Lex and Clark’s friendship, and I’d rather not see them lose that friendship, so I’ll probably check out after season 2 of this show, haha. Especially since the creepy Lex stuff starts happening in season 3 and 4 like you said. Also I don’t know what happens to Pete, but I do know he’s not around for the whole show and I think that’s disappointing. Overall, I find this show to be great and despite not being too much into Superhero shows and movies in general, I just love this kind of writing so far. What are your thoughts on Smallville pairings? (I don’t mind spoilers haha)

Oh no worries! So, just wanted to clarify, in s3, the show gets slick, and at this point, the characters are like, eighteen I think? So there's a relationship shift where Lex and Clark's relationship grows more strained, and Lex and Lana's relationship expands. There's nothing outwardly romantic, but the show frames it in a way where I'm like...no don't do this. Like, I know what they're alluding to, but as long as Lana is in high school, it's not gonna happen, and they stick to that. The moments are brief, and I don't think Lex actually attempts to weakly shoot his shot til s4 and that's more about his and Clark's deteriorating relationship, and less about Lana herself. She ends up dating Jason in s4 anyway and that's funny and inappropriate and weird and season 4 is actually funny because it's totally ridiculous and then they go to China and it's like how are teenagers just jet setting to CHINA to be abducted by Chinese police and tortured, what the fuck is going on now? While also still SO OBVIOUSLY filming in Chinatown in vancouver? LOL. It's ridiculous, so if you're ever curious, give it a shot. Tap out when Lex hallucinates becoming a regular guy and having a family with Lana. That's a good time to tap out (late s4 I believe). And also Clark and Lois become more of a thing in s4 and that's SO annoying because Lois is AWFUL.

Yeah, Pete. He leaves the show season 3 I think? I liked Pete for sure, but the actor did talk about what it was like being on a show where his character wasn't even meant to be Black, and going through that kind of fan hate pre-internet fandom era, seemed like it was hard for him.

Yeah, I think Smallville's saving grace was it came before the whole Marvel superhero movie machine, so this was about Clark growing up and BECOMING superman, not already being full on superman, and so it manages to humanize him in a way that superhero movies fail to do. Tom Welling's Clark has complex emotions, struggles with trying to fit in and find his place in the world, while also helping people with his gifts and even just keeping his family on their farm lol. it's a very human show, despite the super hero/natural element, and that's what makes it easy to love.

As far as relationships go, I, obviously, am a steadfast Clana fan even when it gets STUPID and Lana wants superpowers so to fuck it up for them, Lex makes sure it's like...kryptonite based and her power is embedded into her skin so she ends up leaving the show because her and Clark can't physically touch. SO DRAMATIC lmao. But honestly look at them.

Tbh, I believed Clark and Lex's friendship the least, because it felt like, Lex was so obviously never being honest with Clark, and constantly like investigating him or whatever, and antagonizing and testing Clark, and because he was always doing shady shit, it was hard for me to believe it when the writing said "they're like brothers!" but Lex only came to Clark when he wanted something and/or just was at the Talon for coffee and witnessed an embarrassing moment or something. Or Clark went to him for help, and it seems like so many episodes pit them against each other, it's hard to see the actual value of their friendship? They actually don't spend a lot of time together, and it's not suggested that they do. Whereas, straight from the pilot, and the dialogue thereafter, it's clear that Chloe and Pete know Clark really well and they're ALWAYS together, and when they fight, it's for real reasons, Clark keeping secrets, Chloe's feelings, Pete's...*gestures vaguely*. I also preferred Clark and Chloe as friends, but I understood the confusion you feel when you're so close to someone, and you never even consider them a romantic possibility, and then suddenly there it is. But he did Chloe pretty dirty lol, so I was kinda glad when they packed it up and she found Jimmy later. Her and Jimmy were cute as hell from what I remembered, and then I liked her and Oliver together, which I wasn't expecting because I REALLY liked Jimmy. That was hard.

I liked Martha and Jonathan together. Like, no one really talks about them, but I thought that Jonathan gave Clark horrific advice, but they were a good pair that I believed as a married couple and liked the nuclear family. Lionel was A FAVE lmao he's horrible. But I hate how they defanged him by making him a Clark stan when Lex turns on him. I think that's it! Hope you stick around til at least s3!

So this is a random question and I'm not sure if you or any of your followers have an answer. There is a sometimes humorous thing about Merlin dressing Arthur. By humorous I mean when Arthur stomps around acting like he literally can't dress himself and makes Gaius help him. But to what extent does Merlin dress him? Merlin seems surprised when Arthur dresses himself but surely he's not helping him into his trousers and shirt every morning? I get armor obviously.

in this post (the tags) i sort of talked about how arthur's incompetency, specifically in the 4.07 deleted scene (look at this post) & in 5.08, might mostly stem from the fact that he's panicking over merlin's disappearance than anything else but. he still very obviously like. EXPECTS merlin to be there to help put his shirt on (esp. because in 4.01 the interaction makes it feel like arthur dressing himself is something he's doing TO SHOW that he can do it? as if maybe merlin does dress him but just this ~one time~ he's like look. i can do it too im not dumb) so.

id say merlin began helping put on his shirts during the later seasons (maybe btwn s3&s4? i dont really remember any dressing scenes in s3 but i think it might make sense bc it was btwn those seasons that arthur sort of began leading camelot as regent/took on the responsibility of king, if in every way but name, so the stress of that caused him to start depending on merlin heavily/spurred merlin on to try and do little things to make it more manageable??) and arthur just sort of. really started relying on that? lol?

i talked about it recently so might as well say it here too, leonetta's amigos para siempre era had cute moments but it was unnecessary and went on for way too long, like at best they should have gotten back together in 03x60, at worst they shouldn't have done it for more than 4 episodes, the writers were just cowards and couldn't handle leonetta being happy for more than one episode

I totally agree with you that Val might end up pointing out that his relationship with Gina is different compare to the other girls he has dated in the past. Assuming that Val really is E.J.’s childhood friend from camp she has probably seen him have a new girlfriend every summer at camp. I think either Ash or Val will point out that Gina is different than the other girls he has dated because they both have known him for a long time and they probably have seen him date several girls before. 1/2

I think either Ashlyn and Val will tell E.J. “I have seen the way that you look at Gina I can tell that you are in love with her. I have never seen you this happy before with any girl you have dated she really has change you.” I can totally see Ashlyn and Val gossiping about how E.J. really is in love with Gina. Thanks for resending your ask, anon!❤ If Val does end up being a fellow camper who’s known EJ since childhood, I have no doubt she will be incorporated into Portwell’s storyline in one way or another in S3. Given the recent cast additions, it seems camp Shallow Lake will have junior campers (since the newest characters are in middle school- 8th grade iirc, which would be 13-14 yrs old). We can assume, as of now, that Val and EJ have been attending camp since then (which is around the time most teenagers start to date/ be interested in romantic relationships). If that’s the case, then Ashlyn and Val would know better than anyone what kind of girls EJ has dated in the past and how he was/used to be around them. I agree with you that it’s likely we may get Ash/Val saying something like the line you said in part 2 of your ask to EJ at some point in the season. (I could also totally imagine Val and Ash just being gossipy when it come to EJ’s love life LOL.😂 They just want the best for him cuz he’s the best boiii 🥰) I wouldn’t say EJ or Gina are in love with each other just yet. S2 proves that they really like each other, enough to go on a date and want to end their night with a kiss!😘 BUT it’s too early to call PW’s feelings for each other love. I’ve been meaning to make a post about Portwell’s story in S2 in relation to love going into S3, so maybe I’ll get to that soon (maybe next week?🤷🏽‍♀️). I will say that while Gina was instrumental in helping EJ’s character progress, just like he was for her, I don’t believe it’s fair to credit either one as the reason they changed. So I wouldn’t say “Gina changed EJ” because he wanted to put in the work/effort to do that himself / for himself (same goes for her). I think it would be more accurate to say Gina inspired EJ to change instead of being the reason for it (epi 1.06/1.09/1.10/2.05/2.08 highlight this). That may be something Ashlyn or Val pick up on and point out to him (which very well could lead to EJ singing “Kristoff Lullaby” jus sayin hehe🤞🏽😅).

6x20 "The Man Who Would Be King". Castiel's POV, his alliance with Crowley, making morally dubious choices, really intense Dean-Castiel scenes where Castiel refuses to back down when Dean begs him to... I really love this one.

5x10 "Abandon All Hope...". CASTIEL AND MEG'S FIERY FIRST MEETING!! And a pretty great episode in other respects lol. Crowley had a great intro, the Castiel vs. Lucifer meeting, Jo & Ellen's touching moment...

3x03 "Bad Day At Black Rock". Bela's introduction. It'd be enough for me to love it, but it was a pretty fun episode regardless :D

4x16 "On the Head of a Pin". Castiel starting to pull away from Heaven, Anna-Castiel gr10 moments, Sam leveling up power-wise, Samruby bloodsharing scene, Dean physically tortures Alastair and is emotionally tortured back by finding out he kickstarted the apocalypse... what's not to like??

7x21 "Reading is Fundamental". Castiel and Meg cute scenes, Kevin's intro, Meg's motto speech... "My caretaker" "thorny beauty". C'mon.

5x04 "The End". I'm obsessed with this post-apocalyptic future and you know it. All its possibilities, man. Castiel's alternate especially.

6x10 "Caged Heat". Megstiel's kiss!!! It's not higher because Meg's torture scene is REALLY FUCKING DISGUSTING.

4x09 "I Know What You Did Last Summer" (+4x10 "Heaven and Hell". It's a bit of a two-part). THE SAMRUBY FLASHBACKS. THE SAMRUBY *SEX* FLASHBACKS. ANNA'S INTRO.

3x12 "Jus In Bello". Ruby's beautiful "I told you so" to the Winchesters :DDD. Also, the one episode in s3 that had both Ruby AND Bela, if tragically not in the same scene lol.

5x13 "The Song Remains the Same". Sam and Dean go back in time to save their parents from Anna. I'm ALWAYS here for young!Mary. That the next episode is the one with the cupids reveal makes it even better.

Honorable mentions:

8x17 "Goodbye Stranger". Megstiel last episode and the "What If" it created. Can't be higher because Meg died in it :)))). Also, Meg-Sam bonding over tru wuv while Castiel has That Scene with Dean in the crypt asñldfkasdf.

6x15 "The French Mistake". Sam and Dean travel to OUR world and have to pretend to be their actors FUCKING HILARIOUS. Kripke is shot in the street xD

8x13 "Everybody Hates Hitler". Aaron Bass is a fucking great character that should've appeared more (AND being the one to kill resurrected!Hitler in that other episode, not Dean ¬¬). I freaking love his story, and he offered a fresh perspective on the Winchesters xDD ("Oh my God. These guys are psycopaths.").

13x10 "Wayward Sisters". I don't think it's a *good* episode; the dialogue it's a bit forced and the actors were a bit green, but I ADORE the relationships it set up and I mourn the possibility of an spin-off SO MUCH.

I mean to send you a question for the "Ask me 1 thing" but totally forgot! I feel like I can probably guess how & why you got into animation, so instead: do you have a specific direction you want to go in with it? Work for a particular studio, in a particular genre/style, what types of projects, etc.? Like, ideally, where in the industry would you like to end up?

Good question! ^.^

I don’t know about a specific direction, but I do have some directions in mind.  Maybe too many directions.  They all involve staying in the US, for better or worse, because I’m still monolingual and inexperienced with traveling.  As for where I’d like to end up career-wise and what kind of projects I’d like to work on, that’s a little complicated.

Before all that, though, I should probably preface that I’m still not sure if I’m going into the animation industry.  Not just because I’m inexperienced, don’t have a proper portfolio, don’t mesh with the genres/art styles that are popular here, can’t risk moving far from home rn, might never be disciplined enough for the industry, might never have the basic social skills and connections necessary to network in a highly competitive field ……  Yeah, I don’t mean to sound so pessimistic, but I generally try to be realistic about my options so I don’t get hurt as much. :’D  More importantly, though, I’m not sure if animation really is the right path for me — like, I love animation, I think my best ideas involve animation, and I think there’s so much untapped potential in the medium, but if the work climate of the industry isn’t good for me then it just isn’t.

So for now, I’m also getting an Art History major, keeping grad school options open, and learning skills/programs that are more relevant to webcomics and graphic design, just in case.  I think I’m gonna take a gap year after I graduate to just breathe, polish my portfolio/resume, and try to figure everything out.  Again, I’m not trying to be down on myself or anything; I do think I have marketable talents and whatnot, it’s just that … I’m not marketable, if that makes sense.  And I’m not really sure if I want to be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Okay, with that boring brutal honesty out of the way, let’s get to the fun part!

The thing about major studios in the US is that most of them are in one if the worst places in the world, Los Angeles.  I don’t want to think too hard about having to live in or anywhere near LA or the LA County, even though it’s my most likely path; so for now, my big sky-castle dream is getting a job at Powerhouse Animation in Austin, Texas.  Austin isn’t exactly the best place to live in either, but my understanding is that it's still much better than LA (most cities are).  Plus, it’s way closer to where I live now, and I’m much less likely to die in a fire because of poor land management and/or gender reveal parties! :D

More importantly, though, I just really respect what Powerhouse is trying to do right now.  Most TV productions in the US outsource all of their actual animation to Korea and other countries, so it’s cool to see great 2D animation still being produced in-house.  I love Japanese and Korean studios, but I think we sometimes build up this mystique around them, like they’re the only people who can animate with more sophisticated character designs.  Powerhouse’s animation can definitely get awkward at times (we’ve had this convo re: Castlevania s3, lol), but they really hit it out of the park when they can.  My best hope for them is that they start producing shows entirely in-house someday and become like a Western counterpart to KyoAni.

This was supposed to be about me, wasn’t it … anyway, yeah, I’d love to work for Powerhouse Animation and/or my super idealized vision of what Powerhouse Animation could be.  My next-best choice is to suck it up and move to LA to try for Dreamworks, Sony, Frederator, Nick, Disney (TV) and Wonderstorm in that order.  Beggars can’t be choosers ofc, but I know there are studios that I just wouldn’t be able to vibe with stylistically.  (aside: I actually really wanted to work for Disney/Pixar on animated films when I was young, but my current tastes and abilities are so far removed from the CG film industry that I’m pretty sure I’d hate working there now.)

As far as what I’d like to do in the industry, that’s a whole bag of worms unto itself.  I’ve basically looked into every job in animation production besides the actual animation.  Storyboard artist (or revisionist, more likely) is my best bet for an entry position, which is great, because I love storyboarding!  And if you’re good at that, you can go up the ladder in a pretty traditional way, from storyboard artist to episode director and so on.

But, I’m also aware that there are barriers for people on that side of production, and that you’re more likely to move up to producer or showrunner positions if you start out as a writer or production assistant.  (Unless you’re working on a storyboard-driven show, of course, but I generally don’t like storyboard-driven shows …)  Writers and PAs don’t need to be good at drawing, obviously; writers need to be able to write collaboratively, while PAs need to be good at … being on top of scheduling/organization and being personable, as far as I can tell.  My general impression is that these positions are even harder to get into than the visual side of production and are based even more in Networking™, but I could be wrong.  Those positions might actually be more in line with my skills, but again, barriers to entry and whatnot.

A lot of the rules of the industry seem nebulous and arbitrary anyway, so idk.  Some people just get lucky and go straight from pitching shows to running them.  Besides, I don’t even know if I’d want the responsibility of being a showrunner — again, unless it’s at least a bit like my idealized vision of what showrunning should be.  Maybe I’m more of a writer.  Or a character designer.  Or a comics artist pretending to be a good fit for this industry (see, if the US had a comics-to-cartoon pipeline like Japan this wouldn’t be so difficult!)

At the same time, though, I think most people who enter the industry have a similar kind of struggle.  Like, you watch cartoons/anime as a kid and see behind-the-scenes footage, and you have this Vision of what kind of project you’d like to work on, and it’s not until much later than you realize that you’ll probably never have much of a say in it.  Even people who aren’t interested in pitching or producing shows have to grapple with that, I think.  Most of the storyboard artists/revisionists I follow on social media have personal side projects, like a webcomic or a pitch, that they’re clearly more passionate about than the actual shows they work on.  It’s not that they don’t like storyboarding that much — heck, that’s probably still their favorite thing to do! — or that they don’t like being part of a team.  I just don’t think anyone really goes into this field wanting to be part of an industry pipeline, if that makes sense.  Nobody’s brain is perfectly suited for a highly specialized corporate position.

So … in conclusion, Powerhouse Animation is cool, We Are All Renaissance Men, and I didn’t even talk about what kind of projects I want to work on, did I?  I guess AtLA, TSSM, and GL:TAS were big influences on me growing up; so, if the industry is still heavily entrenched in action-adventure shows for kids for the next decade, I’d be happy to work on shows like that.  I’d really love to work on  dark, mature stories, pretty slice-of-life, and/or technically ambitious productions that reflect my tastes in anime, but that might be too much to ask of the US at this point.  Just … well-written, script-driven shows with decent visuals, please?  I want to be part of projects that hold up to critical scrutiny.

Okay, so in conclusion for real:  My feelings about the animation industry are complicated, but I love everything animation-related and it’s been my dream career for a long time.  I’m just not going to commit to anything until I’m more confident in myself and my abilities and what I want.  This was very rant-y and disorganized and twice as long as it probably should have been, so thanks for reading. ^.^

I’m not new to the whole fic writing thing, but I don’t have a huge output - and much of it is in long dead/nearly dead fandoms(😢). So however close to my heart they are, I’m also going to do a modified version of this tag game focusing only on my fic for The 100. Which is also where I’m getting the most readers these days. I’m also going to stick with @tracylorde’s 3 (instead of 5) because 17 of my little fics turned out to really all be one big fic, which means I really only have about 10 fic total for this fandom.  Here it goes!

What are your five three most popular works? (in descending order)

1. My most popular stand alone fic, hits-to-kudos, is definitely Finding Orion. (Clarke/Roan, ~10,000 words of nothing but porn, 2/3/2016, 382 kudos).

Tag for 3.2. Seriously, nothing but porn. Just because. Oh, and his abs. He works so hard on them. I appreciate that. And Clarke has a devious mind. I appreciate that, too.

I’m still surprised (and yet not!) that this is my most popular fic. I was inspired by 3.02 and our introduction to then banished Prince Roan and his amazing abs, as he dragged a bound and gagged and yet still struggling Clarke about the wilderness. It turned into four delightfully breezy, fun-to-write chapters of bondage and power play, gleefully engaged in out of spite, showing off and taunting a possibly listening/watching Lexa. Truth? I still get a kick out of it, when I re-read it. 

2. My next most popular fic is Autum Dreaming. (Bellamy/Echo, Bellamy&Clarke, lots of other people, ~133,000 words, 1/16/2016, 277 kudos.)

Taking refuge in the fortress of the Mountain Men, won by at the last desperate moment by Monty, Clarke and Bellamy, gives the people of the Ark the secure base they need to make a place for themselves on the new Earth. It won't be easy. Clarke is gone, winter is upon them and war between the clans is looming. And somewhere to the northeast, Thelonius Jaha and John Murphy are finding clues that could help unravel the mystery of Armageddon, or unravel the present.

Yep. Becho, baby. Also Becho + baby. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you.) This fic, Autumn Dreaming, looks like the last in a series, because that’s how it started. But it’s really only one long story, and this final installment is actually the whole thing in one place. If you take the figures for the whole series, then this is really by far the most popular thing I’ve ever written. Over 22,000 hits, and 544 kudos. (Including the lovely reader who just last week left a kudo on every single fic in the series! I see you and you make my heart sing!). 

This was my S2/S3 hiatus fic, imagining a world after the fall of MW, and how I wished for the story to unfold (but already knew it wouldn’t). I was a spolier junkie that summer, and so I tossed in everything we’d heard - including the casting notices for Nia and Roan. They were being coy about Roan’s backstory, so I took a flyer and made him the missing prince of.... the Trikru. Lexa’s older, estranged half-brother. (I am still really fond of this idea....)

It’s half-world building, half-political thriller, half-rescue adventure --- which is too many halves, but it’s that kind of a sprawling story.

That it still collects readers and kudos, after all this time, and given how very AU it has become, pleases me no end. 

3. My third most popular fic is Avatar of Arcadia. (Raven Reyes/Roan, ~75,000 words, 218 kudos.)

Little did brilliant mechanic Raven Reyes know that when Roan, mysterious bounty hunter and her sometime lover, arrived at Mecha Station in desperate need of repairs to his ship, she was about to be swept right into the middle of the intergalatic conflicts raging between the powerful Azgeda and the fierce Trikru. Or that she was going to be drawn into the dangerous hunt for Clarke Griffin, the lost Avatar of Arcadia.

@hawthornewhisperer kicked off Ice Mechanic with her story Watch the Queen Conquer in the spring of 2016. I fell hard (very, very hard) for this pairing. Like OTP level hard. So I wrote a space opera for them! Yep. Space ships, warring galatic empires, lasers and pulsar pistols. I used everything from canon I could toss in to build the universe, and had a blast. I’m sure that’s why readers enjoy it, too!

What are your five three least popular works? (in ascending order)

1. My least popular fic...by hits (barely 100) is Children of Daedelus. (Crossover with Eureka, ALIE/BRAD, Jo Lupo/Zane Donovan, 6500 words, 119 hits, 11 kudos.)

Psychotic, Incestuous, Lovelorn AIs fight to save the girl, and incidentally the world. Monty helps, Murphy adds helpful commentary, Deputy Andy is a hero.

My last great OTP was (is, remains, forever) Jo Lupo/Zane Donovan from Eureka. Ju Lupo was portrated by the lovely Erica Cerra. You can see where this is going, yes? How did ALIE end up the spitting image of Jo Lupo, you might have wondered? Wonder no more!

Only, it turns, very very vanishingly few people wondered. LOL! Which is too bad. It’s a clever fun fic, assuming you’re at all familiar with Eurkea (and I think I’ve spotted the problem!) I played around with voice and narrative and Monty is the featured delinquent.

2. My least popular fic by kudos is His Mother’s Son, (Roan/Ontari, ~3300 words of kink meme porn. 9 kudos.)

Roan shares more with Nia than he wants to. The prompt was ‘the more fucked up the better.’ 

So, angry, violent, dub-con it is. Turns out porn isn’t ALWAYS the key to more readers.

3. My third least popular fic is Letting Go. (Roan & Lexa, 1400 words, 11 kudos.)

Missing Scene, episode 3.04, "Watch the Thrones." Lexa and Roan.

I wondered about so many things, but especially why his face was bloody before their duel began. And why he turned his back on her in the first moments of the fight.

Apparently I’m the only one who wondered.

Supernatural s3

It’s so unfair that the season that has Ruby AND Bela is so short :(((. I was done with it waaaay too quickly, and now I’m speed running through s4 xD (which, like the first time around, is Strong Mixed Feelings territory).

-My girl Ruby!!!! I was so happy to have her back, I kept grinning like a loon every time she was on screen. It’s quite interesting watching the 1.0 and 2.0 versions so close to each other, instead of as they air. I have... Thoughts, on whether Ruby as a double agent was something planned or that they decided as they went, but that’s for the s4 post. s3!Ruby really doesn’t come across as one (“I don’t believe in the devil” oh I wish sometimes xD, I love my nonbelievers), imo, but the beauty of such a device is that you can rationalize anything she does as devious if you want to xD

And it goes without saying that I love her interactions with Sam. THIS SHIP ISTG. I love how immediately ~attuned to her he is lol, his present and instinctive concern for her even if he tries to mask his interest as “practical”. And all the repeated times Sam’s conflicted between her and Dean -like when he deviates Dean shot (wasting one of the Colt’s bullets lmfao) or during the argument about the virgin sacrifice xD. And the “that’s my boy”/ “little fallen angel on your shoulder” quotes!!! Ruby 1.0 deserved to be railed by Sam too, smh.

My favourite episode of hers is “Jus in Bello” (which would be my fave of the season just by virtue of having both Bela and Ruby in the same episode lol. Not interacting, of course, the world as we know it wouldn’t have survived). I just love that she gets that final moment of I TOLD YOU SO to the brothers xD. I really like how she expands on the demonic lore of the show- I love, LOVE the detail about how all demons used to be humans, how they’re souls corrupted in hell. And that in her past life she was a witch (there was this really good fic in Spanish fandom about it... I need to hunt it down).

BTW, though I think her interactions with Dean in that episode are interesting, it really hammers home how much I hate him sometimes xD. Can you stop saying misogynistic slurs for TWO GODDAMN MINUTES, DEAN (and as we know from as early as this season, only HE can have demon/monster friends!! What a fucking hypocrite xD). I freaking love the moment in the finale when she viciously yells him about how she wishes she could see him in hell lmao (and how it foreshadows that when she shows sympathy later, it’s actually Lilith in disguise lmfao). I hate Dean gets the last word in their dynamic, tbqh. Until the s15 cameo, at least xDD

One thing that’s been bothering me xD: the French fries. Demons are vulnerable to salt, like other spirits, right? (and hey, look what a nice piece of foreshadowing that was). How does that translate to food lol. Because Ruby adores French fries, and they obviously contain salt. It’s like spicy food for humans? Or like pineapple? Inquiring minds etc. xD

-I still cannot believe Bela Talbot was only on the show for six episodes lmao. Her presence still lingers in the watchers’ heads so much?? Which is understandable because she’s Lead Girl Material if there was ever any lol. The care with which they styled her even?? You don’t do that for just any character lmao (I mean, just look at most of SPN’s female characters for comparison xD).

Her ship with Dean could’ve really been something, too -even if I hate Dean in it, I can’t deny it packs a punch, narrative-wise. I mean, the Batcat undertones alone!! The fake married undercover shenanigans!! And I think it’s really interesting that she’s such a blind spot for him; Dean’s unusually intuitive about people, but with Bela he takes everything at face value and she can fool him like no other (while, OTOH, is Sam who questions her facade and wants to see more). If he hadn’t been such an idiot (and such an asshole) he could’ve had a really powerful ship. Sucks to be him lol.

Anyway. Man, I love her. So much. I love how Gordon’s threats to kill her don’t work on her, and I love that the show basically said “Bela killing her abusive parents is good, actually” (I’m so tired of forgiveness narratives, you guys. This entire show is founded on revenge, so let me get my revenge fantasies in peace!!) xDD. And I love, LOVE that she withheld that truth from Dean, that she decided he wasn’t worth it. OTOH, you know, fuck the fans that got her written out, definitely; but on the other, I do love how her story ended (and that it was a clear "fuck you" to shitty fans). Doesn’t stop me for wanting to read and re-read (and maybe write!) even more “Bela escapes hell” fix-its, but still.

Also, very important question: what happened to her cat?? It’s the cat alright?? I’m going to headcanon that she left them with that cougar friend of hers lol.

-So. THE DEAL. Okay. Oof. I love this storyline, a lot. A loooot. I love the conflict it creates between the brothers (as long as there’s still conflict and Sam hasn’t yet started taking everything lying down I can enjoy that part of their narrative lol). I love Dean’s initial forced giddiness about “making the most out of his last year” and I love the moment Dean decides he does want to try to live because it makes the last few episodes all the most desperate and cruel (and hey, I’ve heard he only went to hell because the season was cut short due to a writers’ strike... if that’s true that’s so funny lmao).

My absolutely favourite part however? That you can FEEL Dean’s unvoiced resentment towards Sam. For Dean having to die for him, even if Sam never asked him to. He lashes out to Sam repeatedly through the season, but it really came to ahead in the dreamspace episode, where Dean confronts another version of himself that talks about how Sam was “dotted on” (the revisionism asldfkaf). This show is absolutely ruthless when it comes to showing you its characters’ ugly, unfair reactions to things and it’s my favourite thing evah.

Speaking of the dreamspace episode, OMFG. I loved both brothers there. Dean’s hallucination, seeing himself as a demon? And how he let out his anger about John?? Beautiful, truly (regarding John, I also loved their different reactions when it looked like his spirit had contacted them: Dean jumping on it and Sam detached skepticism). But my favourite part has to be when Sam uses the villain’s abusive father against him. Like. Damn. That was cold-blooded o.0

The second-to-last episode, when Sam tracked down that Frankenstein doctor to try and make Dean immortal was ABSOLUTELY HORRIFYING OMG. I loved that. I love that Sam wanted to use it for both them. It was some scary shit. I also love the scene where the crossroads demon questions whether Sam really wants to break the deal, I’m gathering it’s going to be nice foreshadowing later on in the show lol.

Anyway. I also found Dean’s death scene more impactful than Sam’s. Partially because of the horror of it, but mostly because I think at this type of scenes, Padalecki is better. Sam’s grief felt more real, Dean’s got me out of the scene (it’s the voice, I think. Sometimes Ackles’ voice takes me out of scenes, it sounds... forced).

I also really enjoyed how the time loop episode wrapped around this subplot. It managed to be both heartbreaking and mind-numbly hilarious lmfao. Like?? All the deaths?? Were so pathetic?? I tip my hat to Ackles because I don’t think most actors could carry plots like this half as well lmfao.

Sidenote, it’s always a trip to see The Trickster God knowing that fucker is Gabriel. Archangel “hey Mary do you accept God knocking you up” Gabriel. Which I guess isn’t exactly a thing in this show?? Since according to the wikia SPN Jesus was “just a man” (and let me tell you, I’m tickled pink by the fact that out of ALL mythological figures, specifically all CHRISTIAN mythological figures, the show decided to go “nah” on Jesus Christ. I mean, I guess he’d take away from Dean’s, Sam’s and Castiel’s resurrection narratives, but still. It’s so funny!!).

-Gordon Walker remains a superbly acted and fascinating character with extra racist nonsense alsdkfjasdf. But I can’t deny I loved seeing him as a vampire. He was terrifying. And I’m definitely shipping him with Kubrick, ouch xD

-The Ghostfacers episode is... something. As in, incredibly exploitative and homophobic and with an egregious case of BYG (and the first where I’d say it’s incontestable to claim the trope was used. s1 and s2 are muddy territory given the circumstances, IMO, but this one is 300% BYG), but so successfully manipulative my heart hurt for Corbett and Corbett x Ed still. Fuck them for that ngl. I do still enjoy how anti-Winchesters they all are though xD

-3x01 introduces the one nice marriage of hunters so far, between a black couple. The man dies in a gross, horrifying way within the episode ofc (because he was Mean to the the brothers duh). She makes it out alive, and since she doesn’t reappear in the show she gets to live. So for now black women have a sliiiiiightly better track record in SPN than track guys there: they get to appear in a few more episodes and be more fleshed out (Victor, Gordon), but as long as they’re only in one episode they get to live!! (Cassie, Tamara).

-Rufus and Bobby are exes, right? Right?? Probably still married in some state? You know that post about how when gay marriage was legalized across the USA there were a lot of issues because some couples had split and never bothered to divorce, since it was only legal in one place? That post was made for them. Pity Rufus is a black man, and as such has a limited number of allowed appearances before he’s killed off ¬¬

-I would’ve enjoyed Dean’s moments with Lisa and Ben more (it’s just so RIGHT that in this moment he’d want Ben to be his) if my knowledge of future spoilers didn’t perpetually have me in a state of “pls keep this guy away from kids” lol.

-They had Harmony’s actress (BTVS) and they made her a vampire!! The show’s hard on for the Buffyverse is a bit of a hit and miss but I can’t say I don’t relate xDD.

-I know Jensen Ackles can sing (in fact thanks to youtube I know a few of the actors can... is there a musical episode. Does this show have its own OMWF. I need to know). So why. WHY. Does he sound like that during “Dead or Alive”??? I actually like the scene but he sounds so off-key lmao.

-BTW, I found out that apparently Katie Cassidy and Lauren Cohan originally auditioned for each other’s roles añslkdfjasf. I can’t picture it. Ruby 1.0 is Ruby 1.0 and Bela is Bela xD. Although I’ve seen each playing roles that could meld with the other, just. Nope. Good choice on the casting there lol.
