Not sure if you read the Jjk manga or see the leaks about the latest death...I'm honestly numb to them now, I guess since they've been coming from left and right. I don't think they're doing much for the plot, I guess I was just wondering your opinion on it? And deaths in general in Mangas and stories, like what do you think is is like a good way to do a death of character so it doesn't feel cheap? I will say, Katsuki's "death" made me sick to my stomach at the time but they are very diff stories. Sorry this is so long :(
with peace and love in my heart i Really do not gaf about jjk anymore at least storywise. i did try to stick with it after gojo but i just did not think it made sense anymore.some times i read leaks but rn its not looking great. no part of the stories direction rn makes me want to keep up with it lol. so in terms of the story im like. damn please just let akutami out of his contract cause he is fumbling pretty bad rn and i cant imagine how it will be resolved.
i dont actually mind manga deaths even if i act insane. i thought gojos death felt cheap and unplanned and didn't make much sense. it's not that he died but that he died so quickly into the fight and that so much was left unresolved as a part of it. that abrupt feeling was not intentional or well-exectued either. even with a story like jjk that prides itself on being gritty and hopeless, there was just nothing beyond shock value and it was wholly uninteresting. nanami had an excellent death even if it made me very very sad. it held the right amount of narrative weight and was timed appropriately for full gutwrenching impact. i did not feel that way about gojos death. and people were calling people gojo glazers for being upset about it but like. of course people are going to be like hm.. wonder if the fact his own mangaka kinda does not fw him plays into this at all. just a little loool.
the most important thing with any chara death is just intent to me. people die. but what makes that death siginficant? a premature, uneventful death just doesn't make sense for a character as monumentally lore relevant as gojo even if that's the intent. it just wasn't anticlimatic in the right way. i cant be unbiased about katsukis death so i wont pretend - but i didn't feel like his death was cheap at least. it was treated with a lot of emotional impact and fell in line well with the gravity of the story / arc. like u said they are different stories and it made sense with the way hori tells the narrative which is what matters. objectively it was a good death, even if emotionally i was ruined lol
i just. dont think gojos death made sense. at all. in any capacity. like. im truly not even that much of a gojo glazer but it felt completely nonsensical to me and still does. why is he just dead lmaooo like what. he is thee six eyes and he got beat tf up in one fight? be serious

‘I’m not sexually attracted to either of these men, i definitely don’t want to be in any sort of sexual situation with them, why do i find this so hot?? but i’ve since realized it’s that its the emotional intimacy that i can relate to and enjoy from the character’s whereas the physical intimacy is something completely divorced from my reality’
I relate somewhat to the other side of this coin as a straight female byler. I watched portrait of a lady on fire this year and found it very very hot. This opens a fascinating question about voyeurism and how it’s stigmatised. Humans are natural spectators, who learn by looking and watching. Sight is a dominant sense. And like you said, it was the intimacy that was hot. I think that in general, watching sex that the characters/people are into is a turn on, no matter the orientation. It’s an empathy thing - like seeing someone yawn makes you yawn, or seeing someone enjoying themselves and smiling makes you happy. (This is also why I find the darker side of the fandom (particularly people who seem to hate will and shit on Noah) to be genuinely scary, because they lack this empathy, and do actually seem psychopathic in some ways. I mean, we’re all here for this tv show, but we must all statistically be so different. theres no way to know what kind of person you’re interacting with. It’s all very odd. Thats why finding spaces that feel safe and sane (in the way that matters teehehehe) are so important for me, like here <3).
Empathy through spectatorship rather than just relatability is also why we need more queer love stories that appeal to the human heart rather than just the queer experience. The love beneath everything is what unites us all. I LOVE the way the activist / screenwriter dustin lance black, as a gay man, speaks on this. He says you have to change hearts before you can change minds. This is what storytelling and art is for, and I think s5 is going to emotionally move a lot of people who never thought they would care about a gay love story.
I also found what you said about not needing to compare your own sexual performance interesting. This is what makes gay romance or porn appealing for many straight women too: not only more maleness to admire physically, but that removal of comparison. Even though I have sex with men, I would not compare gay sex with what could be possible for me, because the dynamics are just so different. But mainly it’s the emotion tbh, especially with mike and will. I think seeing men be tender together is unbelievably beautiful; I’m a romantic at heart, no matter the gender pairing, and if a story hits - and byler does - then thats all I need.
I can remember the exact moment I realised mike might like will back during s4, after which I went back and rewatched s3, and the ending hit me like a ton of bricks. I was gobsmacked at the engineering of it all, I almost couldnt believe it. It was too good to be true - but not because its a queer pairing (as a straight woman, I imagine the potential failure of this ship won’t affect me as much as it will queer viewers who have been baited in the past) but because the whole show is so so cleverly written if byler does come to be, in more ways than just the gay romance. i dont just love byler, i admire and respect the way they've been written.
Excellent stuff here overall!
This! This is a big one. There's definitely been many times that the appeal of thinking about characters and their dynamics in other fandoms have been for other reasons - like why a lot of people like enemies to lovers, or when it's just a ship with some other specific dynamic, etc. What do you want to see? What engages you? For me lately? I'm totally drawn towards characters really in love, with a strong friendship base. Characters who make you care about them because they care about each other. The love alongside the erotic as converging elements in a ship explored in a fandom. The imagination is free to expand on what you see on screen. I like thinking about/reading/writing about Will and Mike's journey. Falling in love. All those years as besties. What happens when they get together. The interpretations of what their sexual dynamic would be, knowing the story as to how they got there. It enhances everything! From the standard show analysis to some long form fic to a silly little spicy side headcanon - we all felt some sort of connection to these two. It's not isolated. Empathy. Something that is honestly very lacking in a lot of other places...

soooo what happened between darius alador and perry in that 'how could u do this to me? i thought you were my friends!' drawing of teen darius? 👀
in the particular doodle ur refering to, it could be either odalia/alador or eda/perry he's talking too.
the former bc they have gotten together and excluded darius a lot more so from their lives; its a culmination of the alador/darius friendship breakup. OR the latter for their interference in the love triangle and telling odalia to go for it, thinking they'd save darius from eventual heartbreak (bc they think alador kinda sucks), which is very counterintuitive. but they are.... like 15/16? they are not the brightest.
im trying to find the best wording for making this understandable with context but i'm literally the stupidest at media/ character analysis so my interpretations/headcanons for their relationships are all undercut to read if you want more context,,
ok so in my mind eda, raine, and lilith were a friend group and tentatively bc of raine's friendship with darius, he, perry, alador, and subsequentially odalia all... knew each other? hung out? were school friends? like clearly darius and perry got along with eda, raine and lilith more considering the nucleus gallery dana art.
so in a convoluted map of hormones you have: eda and raine slowburn 200k. alador and darius friends? mutual pining but totally not doing anything abt it? perry with an unrequited crush on darius. whatever tf odalia and alador have going on. and lilith is literally just standing there.
i think a lot of the groups issues involve a lot of assumptions and miscommunications. like eda and raine's relationship falling out bc of eda's assumptions that raine couldn't handle dealing with her and her curse and refusing to even tell them anything about it. or raine's assumption that eda's reluctance to open up to them has any bearing on eda's feelings for them for example.
i feel like the alador/darius/perry weird love triangle falls in a similar catergory. odalia assumes darius's feelings for alador are more surface level as opposed to having a genuine connection. she sees alador as a potential partner in the most literal sense; they could create a life together that benefited both of their ambitions.
[i also want to add i dont think odalia is trying to be like evil or anything here in this place in time. I think shes a teen who, given the competitive nature of societal rank and privileges within the coven system, wanted to do her damnest to find a good place in life. if that had to be with alador, so be it. she's self-serving here, only later as power and wealth became more present in her life and grasp, i think her self-service grew into apathetic greed.]
alador is literally like... the most guy ever where he's like... listless. Not to say he doesnt have interests or passions, clearly sharing many with darius, but the difference lies with the fact he doesn't know how to speak for himself to the detriment to himself [and later his children]. he just lets things happen to him. and i think thats really the crux of the fission with his friendship with darius is that he let him go without any regard to darius's feelings.
darius is so much more confident as an adult coven head that im of the mind that he wasnt always so. and i think this is probably before his mentorship with the prev Golden Guard so like he's just some guy so he doesn't have the experience to know what to do or feel in a lot of situations. least of all when it comes to his feelings. he's got a lot of bravado im sure but im sure its to cover his more caring nature. and so when his friends go behind his back and making decisions for his sake, he's very rightfully pissed and heartbroken.
for me, perry seems like a very unfortunate casualty in this. he just had a crush on this guy and that guy kinda liked this OTHER dude but that OTHER dude was in a slowburn divorce arc with this one girl in his Oracle track classes. so like, it would be a win for everyone if darius wasnt strung along and odalia and alador got together right?
and i think eda's just down to help her friends but again she's all action and no thought so i dont think she realized how fucked the situation actually was....
and again emphatically, lilith is literally just standing there.

Now I’m curious about your ST thoughts!!!😭 but could you talk about your favorite parts of stranger things/your favorite characters? (If you don’t want to share the unpopular opinions ofc!)
omg of course i have No Fear of discourse, i'm always open to sharing unpopular opinions, i just couldn't be bothered to type up a whole post unprompted lmao but okay
starting with my fav parts of the show:
i will forever say s1 is the best season of the show and it really doesn't matter how good s5 is, because it won't top s1. from the bottom of my heart i think stranger things would have been a kickass miniseries and probably should have stopped after season 1 because i think it went from a good show to a fun show after that
that said there are always things i love from each season. in s2 i really adored hopper and el's story, in s3 i loved robin's inclusion, and in s4 i thought the max stuff was really great
i am also unashamedly a stancy truther and i literally dont care what y'all say i'm correct and it would actually make PERFECT sense for them to get back together now
hopper is forever my fav character and i think david harbour's performance in this show is truly incredible
then if we want to go to my um... controversial opinions. i'll just let them rip
i think all the kid actors except for sadie sink have gotten noticeably worse. although i would say gaten matarazzo is pretty much the same, and i want to say finn wolfhard hasn't gotten worse but maybe that's because he was so great in the it movies. in this, there's really no way to tell bc they don't give him anything to do lmao
i don't have any real investment in the mike/will/el love triangle but i will say if you rewatch the first season, it's pretty clear that mike really loved el and i think it's just because they feel so lackluster right now that people are convinced they won't end up together but like. i personally would not be getting my hopes up lmao
i also think fanon perception of the show has truly gotten so divorced from reality it's literally crazy. i can expand upon this but i don't want to piss people off THAT much lmao
i think stranger things has a huge problem with consistent characterization and there's always one character you see that with most pronounced from season to season. in s2 it was joyce who straightened her hair and put on eyeshadow and became an entirely different kind of parent because of that i guess. s3 it was hopper who became an oafish comedic device. and in s4 i hate to say it and you guys will be mad, but robin. that is a different fucking character than season 3!!! in s3 she was like. the cool girl/savvy loner, kind of snarky, relatively sarcastic and like ridiculously smart. in s4 she's just like gangly and awkward and talks a mild a minute and claims to have no understanding of social cues. what???? i mean, i like the nerdy lesbian as much as the cool lesbian but that's just blatantly not what she was and i think it's really disappointing that they took this character that was aloof and witty and very socially savvy and made her a nerd because that's how writing lesbians made more sense in their brain i guess i don't know
and for the real kicker..... i think eleven should have died in s4. i'm actually so fucking bored that she didn't. and that's not because i hate her character but because she has effectively turned into a deus ex machina and i am tired of every season ending with millie bobby brown sticking her hand out and screaming until the monster dies. i was SO BORED during the last half of that battle. and look, they had their chance to get rid of that deus ex machina without killing her when they took her powers away, but they obviously didn't know how to write without that convenient plot device in their back pocket so they immediately gave her powers back to her. stupid! killing 11 would have genuinely been the most interesting thing to do going into s5 because then our main cast would be confronted with how to stop the monster without their resident superhero, and that's a difficult thing to write which is obviously why the stranger things writers didn't want to do it lmao. so yea. i'm team kill eleven before the finale so i don't have to sit through another hour of telekinetic lazy writing

I noticed how most of the parents of the main dorm heads (including Jamil) are worst in their own ways, no matter how good or bad they treated their kinds. One that strikes my interest is Malleus' Grandma, The Queen. I can tell how much she loves her grandson but her way of parenting wasnt good. I mean, she sheltered Malleus almost all his life and she wasnt even there for him because she's busy. It dealt a huge toll in his emotional and social knowledge that he clearly needs.
Part 2: Next is Vil's Dad. I get how he is so hands on to his son and how he didnt pressure him into the role and encourage him to do better, but he seems to fail to see Vil's insecurities, also the fact he is also busy in his movies to even give more attention to Vil. I get that he knows how Vil can handle himself but he still needs some wisdom and support.
Part 3: Next is Azul's parents before the divorce (before his mom remarried). It seems to occur to me that other than bullying, he is also facing issues from his family and because of this, he didnt bother to tell them his problems and endure it for years. Even after the divorce and his mom remarried, Azul didnt tell them about his pain back in the past.
Part 4: Next is Leona's parents. I dont get whats with the darkness in his family. I mean his age gap with his older brother, Farena is 10 years, and he does genuinely love Leona, even when he is 20, he still looks after him. What I am curious about is their parents, where the f*** are they when Leona is suffering being compared at such a young age? Do they even care for Leona? This gives me a possibility that he might be an accidental child and it makes me feel bad for him more.
This will contain lots, and I mean, lots of spoilers for lots of TWST media involving characters of TWST! From main story spoilers about those who Overblot, to details from Personal Stories of characters! There is almost nothing here that isn’t full of spoilers, so if you are looking a non-spoiler theory, this is not it chief!  This has lots, and lots of information and speculation in it, so beware! Discussion of it is more than welcome!
Yup! Riddle most definitely applies to this as well, as his most is basically a tiger parent, to an almost creepy degree as she basically controlled Riddle’s life down to the second.
The only people that could be an expectation is Kalim and Idia.
As far as we know, Kalim came from a decently loving household, but based on behind the scenes stuff, that’s debatable since Kalim might be a case of a spoiled child. He’s Spoiled Sweet, luckily, but it’s certainly something to talk about, as I think it’s an interesting scenario.
We don’t know much about Idia’s family. He doesn’t speak of them much, but from how he speaks of them, they seem fairly normal. Though, with how Idia is, that also is up from debate as well. We’ll have to see in Chapter 6. Hopefully we’ll see them and get a feel for them. And hopefully they are, normal people.
I’m going to try to analyze the family situations of those who’ve Overblotted, since we have the most information on them. I suppose I can do the other TWST characters’ family situation if you all want, just ask if you want me to do others family life we know of!
Credit to @twstarchives for the post about the TWST boy’s family! I owe you a lot for that post instead of searching through TWST’s files for it! And @arcdiris and @alchemivich as always for the dividers and character gifs! Thanks so much for the awesome work you two!
Grab a drink and some snacks everybody, because this is going to take a while. So, here’s a cut to save your dashboard!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let’s start with Riddle, the one we know has family problems! From his Overblot-Flashback-Thingy, we know Riddle’s mom is. . . not a good parent. Mrs. Rosehearts is basically an extremely controlling tiger mom. She controls everything about Riddle’s life, down to the second as seen in Riddle’s childhood. Which Riddle most likely doesn’t like from the dialogue we’ve gotten in his flashback, but since he grew up that way he learned to deal with and Riddle must have most likely aware of his mother’s not-so-great behavior at a young age. Riddle doesn’t talk about his father much, and isn’t seen in Riddle’s flashback, so we don’t have much to work with there. But, he is mentioned by Riddle in his Ghost Marriage voice lines, saying he and Mrs. Rosehearts don’t get along. Riddle also says both of them are magical doctors.
What does this mean? If I had to take a stab at things, either Mr. Rosehearts is not very involved in Riddle’s and Mrs. Rosehearts’ life possibly due to work or lack of interest, or Mr. Rosehearts and Mrs. Rosehearts are divorced. We don’t have enough proof to say one way or the other, but I personally think Mr. Rosehearts just isn’t all that interested in Riddle and Mrs. Rosehearts. Why? I think he and Mrs. Rosehearts married out of a love that just didn’t last, as Riddle says they don’t get along. And now, the two just don’t love each other anymore. They are probably only staying together because of Riddle, if they are still together. It’s hard to tell at this point. Hopefully we get some clarification in the future.
What effects does Riddle’s family situation have on him? Well, as we can see, Riddle basically has no experience with true relationships, follows rules religiously, and values his schoolwork above pretty much anything else.
We know Riddle has issues with social situations, as he isn’t good at dealing with others without losing his temper and more often than not needs Trey and Cater to help him out with them, which must have been from Riddle’s lack of true friends and social situation where Riddle could grow and develop and where he doesn’t have the power in the relationship.
We also know Riddle follows the rules religiously and believes in punishments when someone breaks the rules, even if minor rules, and Riddle doesn’t quite understand what the spirit of a law means (for those of you who don’t know what that means, the spirit of the law is the deeper meaning behind the law or reason for the law in the first place. Like if I say, “Please do not watch TV until you’ve finished dinner!” and instead, you pull out a tablet and watch a TV show, yes, you where following the rules, but I’ll still but upset with you because you didn’t understand what I meant by my command. I meant, “Please finish your dinner! Videos and TV later!” that was the message behind my command. This term often used in more religious contexts, though so it’s kind of not common), I think Riddle developed this at a young age as a psychological way to keep himself safe from punishments. If he followed the rules, he wouldn’t get hurt or be in trouble. And later on in life, he saw someone someone else getting punished when he followed the rules, and developed a mindset of, ‘If you follow the rules, you won’t get hurt, and you’re above others who fail!’ which I think led to Riddle, well, gaining the mindset of if you enforce the rules, you’re in charge. Since Riddle lacked power in his life from his mother, I think that’s why he was a tyrant to Heartslabyul during Chapter 1, because he thought that was how power structures worked. While he wasn’t wrong, he didn’t understand that people aren’t rule-followers like him and rules are not absolute. Which, in the later Chapters, Riddle has loosened up on.
Riddle also values schoolwork above most everything else. If I had to guess this as well, at a young age, only Riddle’s schoolwork efforts where praised, so he learned to like schoolwork, no matter how hard it is. Since, well, Mrs. Rosehearts only really let him do schoolwork.
Riddle’s feelings on his parents don’t seem to be all that complicated. Because despite knowing his mother is extremely controlling, he still loves her, or at the least relies on her from how much he spoke of her during Chapter 1. As from his father, that’s unclear.
The takeaway? Riddle’s been really affected by his parents pretty negatively throughout his life, but nevertheless, Riddle’s pushed on with life and still seems to care for them. He’s got not so great mindsets, but he’s still pushing forward.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next is Leona! We don’t know much of Leona’s parents, as Leona doesn’t speak of them too much. He did mention his father in his birthday story, saying his father was sick with possibly deadly disease, with his older brother Farena taking his father’s place as king. And. . . We have nothing on Leona’s mother. Leona has not mentioned her once, sure, he made a passing comment about asking if Ruggie was his mother, but other then that, we’ve strangely heard nothing of her. All we’ve heard about is Farena, his wife, and their son, Cheka.
What does this mean? I think this means Leona’s parents are out of the picture for the story. We know Leona’s father is sick, so might die from the illness and it’s possible that probably what’s been widely accepted. Leona’s father is basically on his death bed, and his kingdom knows. As for Leona’s mother? This is a compete shot in the dark since I have no proof of this, but I think Leona’s mother died giving birth to Leona. I think Leona’s mother was well respected among the people, since females are well-respected in the Afterglow Savanah according to Ruggie, and when she died during pregnancy, the people turned their hatred towards Leona, blaming him for something that really isn’t his fault which could explain why they target Leona so horribly. Do I think Leona was an accidental child? It’s unclear right now. There’s not enough proof one way or the other to say yet. I personally don’t think so, since in lion biology step-siblings basically can’t happen since, well, when lions take over a pride they kill the pervious pride’s children.
As for the more relevant side of Leona’s family, it’s not hard to tell what exactly Leona’s problems with Farena, his wife and Cheka are because, of, well, his backstory and how much it impacts Leona at NRC. Leona was mistreated by the kingdom for something that isn’t really his fault, and he’s bitter about it. While Farena is trying to build bridges between the two, I just don’t think Leona’s ready for that yet. Yes, while MC probably sped up the process for Leona to heal, I don’t think Leona’s ready for building bridges yet. I will give Farena credit for trying, though.
What affect does this have on Leona? Well, as we see in-game, Leona’s depressed about his life and wants a place where he can feel like he matters, since well, he lacked that kind of interaction at home.
It’s not hard to tell Leona’s depressed. From how he sleeps for most of the day, skips classes, how he acts with others. . . it’s kind of clear he’s pretty depressed. Which, I think developed from, well, how he’s been treated his whole life. If you’re treated badly your whole life, then you’ll feel bad about yourself.
Leona also wants a place where he feels he belongs, to well, hopefully make himself feel better. And, luckily, he’s got that. He’s Savanaclaw’s respected dorm leader, after all.
Leona’s feelings on his family seem pretty complicated. I don’t think he hates his father, or his mother, as he doesn’t speak of them much and seems to be quite neutral about his father. I think he feels indifferent towards his father, as he feels sad his father, and his only way to the throne will go away, but knows that it’s unavoidable and he can’t do anything about it. However, his feelings on Farena as less complicated. I think he genuinely hates Farena. From how much he speaks of Farena, and how much he expresses it. I think his hate is genuine, and Leona basically blames Farena for his own problems. I don’t think he blames his sister-in-law, as he says he respects her, and from what we know of women in the Afterglow Savanah, I’d agree.
But, I think Leona’s feeling on Cheka on extremely complicated. I don’t think he blames Cheka for anything, despite what he says and is more trying to convince himself of that. As, he treats Cheka with respect despite pushing Cheka away, he hasn’t hurt Cheka, and most we’ve seen him to do the little one is talk not so nicely, and with what lions can do to each other, Cheka is pretty safe with Leona despite what Leona says. So, I think Leona doesn’t actually hates Cheka for anything. And, Cheka is moreso a physical reminder that, well, Leona is the second in line and will never be king now. I think Cheka sort of acts as a morality pet for Leona. Which basically means, I think Cheka is turning Leona into a better person. How? Despite Leona pushing Cheka away, and showing clear disinterest in the cub, Cheka comes up to him anyway, be it innocence or pure love from his uncle. I think despite Cheka reminding him of his fate, Leona appreciates it deep down, since it means that someone from his home acknowledges Leona, as well, Leona. Not as the terrible second prince, or the scary magic user. But as an amazing Magical Shift player, Cheka’s uncle, and a leader of his own pride.
Leona’s feelings on the matter are actually quite unclear. I think Leona’s healing, and learning to work his feelings, so his feelings are always changing.
The takeaway? Leona’s also been really affected by his family and the people around him at home, but I think he’s learning to cope with it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now Azul! While for a while, we didn’t know much about Azul’s family because well, unlike other characters it wasn’t really relevant to his backstory, we do now! Azul’s biological mother and father are divorced. We know a lot of Azul’s biological mother, as Azul is still with her. She’s a restaurant owner, and made lots of foods for Azul when he was younger, which Azul says probably made him a foodie. We don’t know that much about Azul’s biological father, but we do know a lot about Azul’s step-father. He was the divorce lawyer for Azul’s mother, I believe. The two fell in love, and the two are now married. Azul also has said he has a grandmother, who is a powerful mage known for her acts of service.
What does this mean? Well, for one, we have our first character that has officially divorced parents. While Azul hasn’t said why, and most likely won’t for a while if at all, I think that’s a cool thing for the team of TWST to do. As while, yes, people who stay together are common in TWST it seems, I think Azul’s backstory can help show those whose parents aren’t together, like in our world, giving Azul more relatability, even if to a a smaller group in Japan. Because where I come from, divorce is pretty common and I know at least a few people that have divorced parents. But, in terms of Azul’s past, I think this means to a degree, Azul can’t relate to his family that well at times. (Now, I might be very wrong about this, since I have no personal experience with divorce and only really have heard other’s experiences with the topic, so please feel free to correct me if you do have actual experience. I’d be happy to hear it!) From what I’ve heard from people from divorced families, at times they feel like at outcast because they’re biological family is separated, and their parents have moved on but they have not, or feel guilt that they are the reason the parents are being divorced. I think Azul feels at times he can’t relate to his mother at times and add unto the fact he was bullied for being different, I think Azul may have issues relating to his mother and step-father, mostly because he may not want to burden his happy mother with his issues. Hopefully, we’ll get more information on the matter in the future.
What effect does this have on Azul? I think while right now, we can’t see the effects of Azul’s disconnect with his family now, probably because Azul is working to fix the disconnect, but I think it really affected Azul in the past.
While I don’t we have a clear time period for when his biological mother and father got divorced, or even why, from how Azul acts I think it happened when Azul was young. Hence, why Azul seems to be over it now that he’s older. I actually think it might have happened around the time Azul was bullied, if not during, hence giving a reason to why Azul was bullied. While messed up, it could be the case since I think in Japan, children can get bullied for having divorced parents since that’s not ‘normal’ in Japan. Though, I hope that is not the case for Azul. Moving on, since his biological parents where getting a divorce, I think Azul didn’t really talk about his problems with his parents, possibly because he wanted to deal with it on his own, possibly because he didn’t want to bother his parents about it. It’s unclear right now. But, because of his lack of support at home, I think he learned to depend on Jade and Floyd for the emotional support, hence why he’s so close with the two and it seems that he only really seems to care for the twins’ entertainment and wellbeing at times. Because of his dependence on his parents, I think he grew distance at home. Which, I think as Azul grew older, he regretted. Hence, why he’s trying to get more involved with his family.
I think that’s why he has this friendly competition with his mother about the restaurants, and learned law with his step-father, hence why he’s good at it now. Because Azul wants a better relationship. Can I prove this? Nope. I’m probably pulling this out of nothing, but hey. I’m trying here.
The takeaway? Despite what little information we have on Azul’s home life, I think at one point, Azul grew distant from his family and is now trying to mend that relationship while still trying to keep close with Jade and Floyd. The relationship this family has is surprising doing alright, all things considered, I think.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Up next is another boy that may have family issues, Jamil! We know quite a lot know Jamil’s family, thanks to the recent event, Al'ab Nariya! We’ve met Jamil’s littler sister, Najima, the family of a character introduced to us! We haven’t met Jamil’s parents, but thanks to Jamil’s Overblot-Flashback-Thingy and the Al'ab Nariya event, we have lots of information to work with, thankfully! Jamil’s parents are servants of the Asims, with Jamil’s father being the one to be the most adamant about it, which makes me think Jamil’s father grew up in this, and Jamil’s mother married into this. Which, I have no proof of if it’s true or not.
What effect does this have on Jamil? From Jamil’s backstory, we can clearly see the position he was most likely born into has a huge effect on him. Jamil was pressured at a young age, most likely by his own parents, to act dumber than he actually is while also being being hypercompetent sidekick to Kalim. Which, from Jamil’s motive for Chapter 5, clearly had an affect on him. He felt he basically was living for someone else, and became resentful of others, namely Kalim. While I don’t think he blames Kalim for his situation, mainly because Jamil’s grown up with Kalim is whole life and probably also understands that Kalim can’t be blamed for something that’s not his fault, and also Kalim’s kinda not the brightest. But, Jamil was trying to convince himself that it was Kalim’s fault until well, his chapter happened. I think Jamil actually blames his parents more for his situation now and wants to break out of it, hence why he says he’ll stick with Kalim.
I think Jamil’s father actually is the one Jamil blames the most. Since in the Overblot flashback, we see Jamil’s father being the one to tell Jamil to hold back, and Jamil comments he’s quite anxious. Since I think Jamil’s father was born into the servitude, I think Jamil will blame his father the most for his situation. So, I think Jamil and his father don’t get along very well. While I think it’s unclear if Jamil even loves his father, I think even if Jamil does care for his father, he still has at least a little resentment towards him.
I don’t think Jamil blames his mother for his situation. I honestly think she married into the family, as from how Jamil and Najima talk about her, I think they both deeply care for her. Which, leads me to believe Mrs. Viper married into this, and probably feels just a trapped as Jamil at times.
We know Najima and Jamil get along. We’ve seen them interact in the Al'ab Nariya story, and it seems like a healthy relationship. I think these two actually do love each other, and care deeply from one another. I think Najima has things better off than Jamil does, and Jamil may have some envy there, but other than that, I think these two are perfectly healthy siblings, as they joke, talk, and even help out each other. Which, I loved seeing, especially when TWST has shown, well, examples of less healthy sibling relationships.
The takeaway? I think while Jamil is resentful of his servant situation, I think he cares for his family, with the exception of maybe his father, and is trying to break out of what he was born with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And last, but certainly not least, Vil! The only family member we known of on Vil’s side, is, well, his father. Vil hasn’t mentioned anyone else, leading me to believe that Vil’s other family is either dead, or out of the picture for Vil.
What does this mean for Vil? Well, I think it depends on what exactly the situation is. If Vil only has his father as a living relative, then that kinda of makes things worse for Vil, even if he doesn’t know it. If Vil does have living relatives, I think then we can place more of the blame on Vil’s father for Vil’s current state.
See, if Vil has no living relatives other than his father, then his father’s behavior is at least kind of explainable. He’s a single dad who is trying his best to support his only child and they have no support otherwise. So, if he throws himself into his work, he’ll get paid more, and thus, Vil survives.
If Vil has living relatives, than I can safely say that, to a degree, he’s putting Vil in danger knowingly. Since, if Vil’s father’s own family members have to basically cut themselves off from Vil and his father to keep themselves safe from the paparazzi, it not only means he’s extremely popular and dedicated to his career to a possibly unhealthy degree, but that he also has done nothing to protect those around him. Which, is not the kind of actor you’d want to be around.
No matter the case of Vil’s family background, I’d say Vil’s father isn’t great no matter what. Seeing as how he’s let Vil’s insecurities go out of control, and possibly made it worse. And, from what we’ve seen, he’s been mostly absent throughout Vil’s life despite how much Vil loves him.
When we first see Vil’s father, he tells Vil the director has either strange or great taste, (depending on the translation you’ve gotten) in making the world’s cutest boy the villain. And when Vil asks if he’s that scary to others, what does his father say? No, your chosen to be the villain because you’re beautiful and wonderful, and that the villain’s role is important to the story and Vil should be proud.
Which is the most generic thing you can say, if a little insulting to Vil who most likely already knew that already, since he’s played those types of roles before.
Villains have the potential to be extremely complicated characters, even being the most complicated character in the movie purely based on themes and messages the character may have. And, Vil’s father, as an actor, should know that better than anyone else. But, he doesn’t say that. Why? It’s unclear, but if I had to take a stab at things, Vil’s father can’t relate to his son in being the villain. I would bet he’s always been the lead star, and the hero of a story and only really sees it as, well, as job and it’s been so long since he’s played a villain role, if at all. So, he can’t help Vil in that department. But, then why didn’t he tell Vil that villains can be better then the heroes, purely because they are allowed to be complicated, unlike heroes? Or point him to someone how can tell Vil that? Why leave Vil to figure out himself?
As an actor, he should know, better than anyone else, without villains, there is no story to be had and the villain archetype is so fluid it can be interpreted infinite amounts of ways. So, villains can be anything they want to be, the only require they have is, that, they cause problems for the main character. They could be something as simple as the local guy who just happens to cause trouble, even if they don’t mean it, to the over-the-top villain who sits all day in his castle laughing and curling their hair about their super evil plot. While, the hero, is a balancing act. You have to make the hero believable to us as people, or we just won’t engage in the story. Which, is often why most authors just make the main character bland so it can be easy to fall into their shoes. Villains can be over-the-top, comical characters that don’t even have to follow the basic rules of being human, because they don’t have to. We don’t need to believe the villain is real. We can just watch a villain do their thing because he’s, at the end of the day, a character that we can watch do their thing, and it doesn’t affect us. The hero? They have to have some level of believably in them. I not, the audience can’t be interested in them, at all. A villain can save a movie on their own, purely because we get to see them do stuff on screen, a hero cannot save a movie on their own. A hero is dependent on it’s surroundings to, well, be who they are.
So, Vil’s father making such a generic statement about villain? To me, it’s almost disingenuously insulting to say to Vil when Vil’s father should know better. And, yes, while it can be argued Vil is a child and might not understand, Vil is pretty mature for his age. Even though he kind of needs to be to, well, be an industry like the movie industry.
How has this affected Vil? For one, we’ve seen that Vil has had to push himself to probably almost unhealthy limits to get himself recognized. And as far as we know, his father has not stopped him from doing this, probably because he lacks influence in Vil’s life.
I think Vil, deep down, is trying to get his father to notice him.
We know from Vil’s Overblot-Flashback-Thingy that Vil wants to be the hero, or the last one standing on stage, meaning Vil wants, to some degree, attention. If I had to guess why that is, it’s because of his father. Vil’s father, being a famous actor, mostly left Vil to his own devices and probably was at more movie shoots that at home. Vil most likely became interested in acting because he wanted to know why his father, an actor, was not always home. So, became involved in acting to figure out why, and seeing as his father has such a high influence in the industry, when Vil’s father caught wind of Vil’s interest, Vil’s father got Vil into the industry, and the industry took advantage of it. As, we know Vil has been in acting since he was a child, and Vil still is pretty popular even now. And, then, I think Vil started to figure out how the industry works: As long as you have a spotlight on you, you’re safe. But the minutes that spotlight is gone, so goes the attention. And, since he wants his father’s attention, I think he’s trying to be his father’s successor, in a strange way, so he’s getting all the attention in the world, because he wants people to look at him and thus, if others look at him, his father will see him.
It’s not exactly clear if this is working, so hopefully we get more clarification on this, or at least, see Vil’s father’s side of the story.
But, fear not. I don’t think from how Vil behaves that he had just his absent father to guide. I actually think that Vil got another father figure, like the universe is trying to make up for Vil’s lack of father. How do I think it is? I think it’s Jack’s family picked up the slack that Vil’s father left behind.
Now, I totally might be pulling this out of my ass purely because I am biased towards the friendship of Jack and Vil, but hear me out.
Jack and Vil clearly met at a young age. And as we’ve seen in personal stories of Vil, Jack is featured. Quite a lot, almost like Trey and Cater is often featured in Riddle’s personal stories, and we know Trey and Cater have an impact on Riddle’s school and personal life. Vil is often even associated with Jack outside of the main story, on multiple occasions, from the Pomefiore Training Camp, the Halloween Event, the Beans Day Event, there isn’t an event I remember where Jack and Vil aren’t on screen together at some point in the story with these two involved. Vil clearly shows care for Jack, in his own ways. Like in his ceremonial story, he fixes Jack’s robes, even though Jack is not in his dorm at all and it’s implied Vil moved away at one point and they lost contact. But, despite Vil moving away, he still remembers Jack, and even has fond memories of his time with Jack as seen in his birthday story lines. Vil also hasn’t clearly mentioned who took care of him while his father was away, or even who took care of him.
So, here’s what I think happened. Vil and Jack met after Jack defended Vil from other children that mistook Vil as the villain in a show they watched, and Vil became interested in Jack, seeing as Jack saw him differently then others did and Jack became Vil’s first real friend. And, most likely due to his father not being home, he would at times go to Jack’s place to find comfort with others. Thus, met Jack’s family. Jack’s family upon hearing Vil’s situation, probably kind of took Vil into their family. I think Vil and the Howl family had a good relationship, as Jack seems to have done lots of activities with Vil that Vil remembers fondly, like the Aurora Borealis, and I think Vil’s father trusted the Howl family with Vil, or didn’t know about the arrangement as we have no evidence of Vil and Jack being uncomfortable with each other. I think that Jack’s family helped Vil grow and develop into who he is, in that they helped make him more mature as a person, and taught Vil life lessons Vil’s father wouldn’t. But then, Vil had to move away. While it was probably devastating for Vil and Jack, the two seemed to have gotten over it, but met each other again at Night Raven, where clearly they aren’t separating anytime soon, as in personal stories of Vil, they met up a lot in the present.
But, we have the Ignihyde arc coming! Hopefully we get more information on Vil and Jack’s relationship then, as Jack might be more in the picture during Chapter 6!
The takeaway? Vil probably had a absent father, and thus, why he wants attention, and maybe he got another figure in his father's place.

Holy Fuck Saint that chapter had me like wow like, can I just say that smexy scene though with MC and Gojo but Sera and hearing from her point of view I had a strong feeling that it was E*la who was the one who convinced her to give the tea to Y/N like I knew and that scene with her and Naoya like I can't wait to see the look and her face when she realized that Naoya is really just truly playing and using her like a pawn I feel bad for her but at the same time I don't know why she thinks that Gojo will still care about who you are with like girl still grow up. And that scene with Sera and Eula I new that bitch was sick in the head and that last line though had me shook is that Sera character development we see now but thank you for a another wonderful chapter Saint and we will be here and wait for as long as you need please don't overwork yourself and drink plenty of water and stay safe and get a goodnights rest to take care baby💗😊

I always kept missing your inbox but I finally made it and OMG Chapter 16 I loved it soo muchhh honestly for starters Sera and Naoya like WHATTTT but Naoya just plays everyone so I love him for that.
secondly that steamy scene of Gojo and Y/n very well written I love how domestic they are.
thirdly GEN also ones of my fav characters she should be detective will all she found out but I love her for being prepared and taking her of y/n especially since we don’t know how the whole divorce is going to turn out ( can’t wait for sn2)
Toji is that one person that knows everything but doesn’t say anything love him for it and his dynamic with y/n is the best I ship them
Lastly THAT FIGHT Sera and Eula the killer duo and not in a good way I hope the both of them get what they deserve especially Eula I am still heartbroken over granny death
But anyways saint I love this series and all your series soo much and I am genuinely excited whenever you post I hope you are doing well and that whenever you need to take a break it’s cool you are human after all ❤️❤️

(pyro here! this is very ramble-y so no obligation to read through, but im constantly thinking about the council and cant help myself)
im not sure how to start this, but there's a phrase from a song i like that i feel really describes the council, in a way? said phrase is "now, sympathy has no place in a righteous heart" and i feel like that just...really fits with the council as a whole, kinda?
im sorry for being a broken record at this point, but i find it endlessly fascinating how the council is more and more divorced from what you'd imagine them to be (in the earlier books you'd expect them to be good and kind bc Good Government but they're actually pretty horrible, and then in legacy they're actually working with the crew and are very much people, and then the oralie reveal that just sets you right back and the whole thing with kenric. just. yeah.)
like, they seem to think they're in the right, since because they're working to make their world better, but they definitely don't care about the fine details as long as everything is running smoothly on the surface (like how exillium and banishment is a thing that happens to children.) even if some are hurt by what they do, the council are still duty-bound to do what's needed to keep their people safe, and if they have to sacrifice a minority for what they think is the correct course of action, they won't be afraid to take it.
i think it's a neat detail. like, i dont think SM did it on purpose, but it's still cool to think about!
also the lyric is from the song comfort zone by ferry. sorry for the really rable-y ask with zero point to it though :|
pyro you need to stop apologizing for talking about the things that interest you /srs. You aren’t bothering me, it’s not too much. I genuinely love receiving your asks, and I love reading rambles /g (all of this is /nm and gentle btw)
you’re absolutely right, when you first start reading the books there’s this idea of ah yes, everything is perfect. Everything is working well. Including the government. They’re kind, benevolent, righteous leaders whose goodness spreads to the people and world and make it better. And then you look a little closer and see wait a minute, it’s all an illusion.
they make decisions that negatively affect the main character, they have no qualms with leaving a few out of the group to fend for themselves (exillium) for the sake of maintaining this illusion of perfection and protecting others. Good of the group is greater than that of the individual.
then Sophie starts working with them more closely and you see they’re really…human. (As in real people. I know they’re elves). They debate their decisions, they talk them out and consult others. They put things to a vote. They delegate tasks. Which in a way, can make it more horrifying because those decisions they made were intentional. It wasn’t just a backhanded “uh maybe do that and it’ll help,” it was a deliberate, conscious, agreed upon choice.
And maybe it reveals a skewed sense of right and wrong. They think they’re helping but really they’re just covering up problems that will fester beneath the surface. Or maybe the morality of their decisions is the further thing from their mind. They just want certain results and do whatever it takes to get them regardless of the implications. Sophie’s ability restrictor might be a good example of that. Locking away her powers and badly affecting the functioning of her body (with headaches and nausea) doesn’t matter to them. It’s not ideal, but not a dealbreaker. It got her to stop using her powers as long as she was wearing it, so it was worth it and the right decision to most of them. It fixed some of their interspecies problems too.
it probably wasn’t intentional, but it fascinating to think about the elven government. All the little details and things that were probably never even meant to be thought about but provide so much depth.
it’s a really interesting topic of conversation, so thank you for bringing it up!! I’m always down to talk about the council /g

The Loud House Valentine’s Day Double Feature (Back in Black and Stage Plight) or My My My Once Bitten Twice Shy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What is up my Loudites? And while I am returning to the Loud House I do have some sad news to get out of the way first.. i’m ending regular coverage of the Loud House. I don’t like doing this.. but when I picked up the show, I didn’t really have a set schedule.. and that was a bad thing as I didn’t get nearly everything I wanted done. Now I have one and honestly it’s been great: it allows me to stay focused and if I end up not feeling what I was going to do that day, provided it’s not a comission or specfically needed that day, I can swap things around a bit easier.
The reason I bring this up is Nick’s way of scheduling means I CAN’T reasonably put the show on the schedule. They often don’t announce airdates until the wee before, which isn’t a bad thing WATCHING, and isn’t unresonable for a children’s network. But for someone who likes to have a concrete schedule at the top of the month, still flexable and able to make changes if they come up but at least some idea of what i’ll be doing and when, that’s a non-starter, as not knowing when a show’s going to be there or not really messes with things. In contrast Disney puts up their entire programming schedule for next month towards the end, so I know if a show’s coming back, and thus that it’ll probably be around for next month’s too. And if it goes away a week earlier than expected then super I have that space for other sttuff. But I just have too much other stuff, paid and on my own time, to keep friday’s open in perpetuity.
I will however still reviewing the show infrequently as I still love it, Season 5 will probably have plenty of episodes I want to talk about, already it has Leni running for mayor which sounds like one of my wonky spinoff ideas and I love it all the more for that, and ther’es tons of episodes I have and haven’t seen to dig into. So like Lori I won’t be in the house on a daily basis but i’m still going to show up a lot. I already have an April Fools special planned, as well as a retrospective ready for some time in the future. And of course if more Sam and Luna episodes show up, you know i’ll be on those as fast as humanly possible so yeah not leaving the show.. just not coveirng it because I like having some control of my schedule, it’s a thing with me.
Tumblr media
Good then we can get to why your ACTUALLY reading this unless you’ve already scrolled past or scrolled up to this. Next Sunday is Valentine’s Day, and so to continue Valnetine’s Shenanigans on this fine blog, i’m doing some romantic style episodes of the loud hosue for you. I did intend for this to be bigger, but frankly i’ve been running behind on reviews and running out of steam lately, so I paired it down to the two I wanted to do most. So for today we’ll be covering two of the show’s couples: One they badly need to bring back and I question why they haven’t, and one that I feel has gotten a lot of flack for things that aren’t it’s fault. Both are really adorable so expect some awkward blushing, bats, blood, and other stuff rhyming with B under the cut!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Back in Black: So we begin our double feature with Lucy
Tumblr media
Yeah I have not covered this adorable harbinger of death enough on this blog, and intended to do this one, among other lucycentric episodes back in october.. and the fact I didn’t is a good argument for why I have a schedule now ain’t it? But sometimes your plans not panning out right at the exact time you planned them works out for you. Not getting to do Plan 9 From Mission Hill during Pride Month meant I got to do it on comission later. And not getting to do this one at Halloween means it still works fine just fine for valentine’s day.
So we begin the episode with Lincoln working on his science project, with Rusty coming over to help.
Tumblr media
Shockingly though not only is he not just taking a nap or hitting on Lincon’s sisters while Lincoln works but actually helping, he’s actually good at it. I’m as suprsied as you. Though this is early in his characterization, so he hasn’t’nt been established as horribly sucking at everything or his friends being done with his bullshit QUITE yet. Give him time.  This is an interesting moment in the character’s history though, as it’s the episode that firmly establishes him as a close friend of Lincolns. While he was already turned from a member of a random violence gang to LIncoln’s buddy in the span of season 1, this episode cements him as one of his closer pals simply by him coming over and the two being fairly familiar with one another. Granted by that same token Girl Jordan should be in the group.. and I have nothing to add to that. Add Girl Jordan to the Lincrew. Just do it.
Anyways Rusty brought his brother along. And you’d expect me to be terrified as there’s now three of them. But.. nope I like Rocky. He’s a chill kid and his personality goes together well with Lucy’s as while he’s a more typical kid, he’s still very subdued in his emotions like she is. Also he mentions both parents so my divorce theory.. is honestly still valid as this was three seasons ago and I could buy their mother left during that time.
Tumblr media
And yes Lucy’s in love.. and stalking him a bit as she follows him around the house sighing while he wonders who did that.. though it is a nice clue their compatible. When you can sense the presence of someone whose big running gag is showing up out of nowhere to scare the crap out of people that means something. And it’s either that you’d really get that person or your Wolverine. Or one of his kids. Or his clones. Or clones of his clones. What i’m saying is Rusty’s mom banged the wolverine and his family tree is really weird even by marvel standards.
But I do give her a pass as she’s not trying to be creepy or obsessive, she just doesn’t know how to talk to him as he’s your average kid and she’s a creature of the night. It’s just a kid being shy which is very refreshing both because pre-savnio being fired the show had some very messed up ideas about relationships and gender politics at times, the latter of which actually crops up here, and because having grown up with the cartoons of the 90′s and 2000′s.. I had to put up with things like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Full Disclosure: I DO ship sonamy.. but only after around Sonic Chronicles, where Bioware and then Sega decided to not make “Constantly harasses sonic despite him clearly not being interested and saying so vocally” and “Obessess over him to a point I worry she’s going to break his legs so he’ll never run away from her again”, as well as aging her up from 12. Still find her ungodly annoying at best and terrible at worst before that point, Sonic CD and Sonic Advance excluded. And yes I am that huge of a nerd, damn proud of it too.
What i’m getting at is that a little girl unable to talk to a guy and only being kinda creepy because that’s what she does is LEAGUES better than “IT’S NOT CREEPY WHEN A WOMAN DOES IT”. Given this episode was written by a woman that probably helped a lot if not entirely but I don’t blame her for that.. more on that later.
Point is she’s smitten but her first attempt to talk goes back as he rushes to leave after she tries talking to him.. and also appears out of nowhere to spook him. Come on man, your better than that. YOu sensed her before why not now? Up your game. But yeah Lucy’s depressed while Lincoln talks to her about it, about them leaving and once Lucy confesses she’s into rocky asks what he’s into. Lincoln.. has no idea as he’s barely been around Rocky. He’s just an average kid he dosen’t quite understand. Normal is the word he uses and Lucy ponders that.  We next see the three most traditionally feminine sisters, Lori, Leni and Lola, all pissed someone stole their stuff, though Lori does suspect Lola at first because let’s face it, this fits her MO of being an entitled brat and not being above petty theft. But no the culprit is Lucy who genuinely apologizes and understands that their mad but the other girls are fine with it given the context, which Lucy explained, and are happy to make her over.  This is where the problem I was hinting at comes in: ALL the girls are on board with this makeover plan. the problem is.. only the three who came in in the first place make actually sense making Lucy more tradiotnally feminine. Lori loves fashion and is a control freak who has troubles with empathy at times especially at this point in the series, Leni while not INTETIONALLY hurtful is kind of ditzy and thus can miss some cues, and Lola has a yawning starless void where her soul should be. For these three? Yeah this plot actually makes sense they wouldn’t think of Lucy’s feelings and actually help her use who she is to get rocky or tell her it doesn’t matter she’s beautiful as she is.. then presumably bring the wrath of god down on that poor child before things were cleared up.  The issue is more dragging the other sisters into it. It only fits the three above to really give a shit about making Lucy more “normal” and “Girly” and “Other stereotypical bullshit”. Luna is very chill and empathetic and would be the first to say “Wait maybe making her the opposite of herself isn’t a good idea”, Luan is likewise empathetic though I could possibly see it she really doesn’t need to be in this plot, Lynn ENTIRELY doesn’t fit as she prefers sports and getting dirty and what not and is the closest to Lucy out of the sisters and thus would probably be the most defensive about her not changing and that could’ve actually been interesting, Lana would be the same minus the being closest and Lisa is coldly detached a lot of the time and wouldn’t care about any of this on a good day. It feels HORRIBLY offensive and out of character to have them all suddenly be “nah your not girly enough”. These girls don’t give a shit about whose more feminine than who and it’s really bad to pidgeonhole them as that.  However.. I dont’ blame episode writer Gloria Shen entirely for this. She wrote it, she gets some of the discredit.. but she didn’t DIRECT the episode and a LOT can change from page to screen. No  THAT was series creator and known sexual preadator Chris Savino. And i’m not just blaming him because he’s a creepy asshole, but because the seasons he directed, seasons 1, 2 and most of 3, had a bad habit of having episodes where all the girls acted as a group and often to weak ends, like the green house, the one where they all fought, the gender swap episode or  heavy meddle.. which is a headache for another day. Point is it doesn’t surprise me he didn’t fix this or even genuinely cared to differentiate  them and it’d be until next season where the show fully became an ensemble piece. SO yeah I blame him on this not for his horrible history, but simply because it sounds like his writing style and as director, and a producer on the show, he had the power and responsibility to fix things and did nothing. So if it wasn’t directly his fault in the first place , he certainly didn’t fix it, call it out in storyboarding or well anything. So yeah shared blame all around.
Tumblr media
So after a makeover montage, Lucy is uh... well I can’t describe the abomination they’ve created.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean.. none of it works, and I think that’s very much the intent, dosen’t make it any less horrifying. Nothing about this is right: makeup REALLY shouldn’t go on a child in any circumstace so the blush on her cheeks is creepy and makes her look like one of those creepy porcelian dolls that i’m 100% sure either are planning to kill us all one day or were made to keep the souls of the damned trapped inside forever. The ear rings just look creepy and again are a bit much for an 8 year old, and the blonde hair just brings it all together. The pink outfit is fine.. I guess but the face is just so unsettling I can’t process the rest of her outfit and i’m not even going to try.
Point is she looks terrifying, and not in the fun way she usually does, and Rocky dosen’t know what to make of this. Oh and if your wondering why he’s here Lynn just.. took a hockey stick to Lincoln’s project to get the Spokes Boys back over here, and Lisa mocked him for pointing out the obvious holes in their plan despite being 4 and LIncoln having a girlfriend at this point. Granted his relationship with Ronnie Anne at this point is also kinda effed up, but given you all pushed him in this direction, Lisa still has no room to talk and they amicably broke up at some point once the writers decided “Let’s pretend like this never happened and they were just friends, despite her being introduced with a crush on him and us still replaying episodes with said relationship in play, instead of actually dealing with this directly”. You may be easily able to guess what hte retrospective’s about at this point.  So Lori comes in for phase two .. WITH BOBBY!
Tumblr media
Just.. I cannot tell you how much I needed my boy to calm me down after the last two scenes of horribly off character writing and ... that thing up there. He dosen’t do much this episode but every episode is better with Bobby and that’s a scientefic fact. So Lori claims they had a double date fall through which Bobby barely follows along with.. and it does kinda feel pressurey to kinda force Rocky’s hand here but her intentions ARE good, and a group date is a good way to relive presssure. It just ends up falling through becaue Lori wants her to act intentionally helpless, which makes no sense both for Lori’s personality given how driven and controlling she is and how Bobby clearly knows both things and likes the first and she worked on the second for him. So yeah the golf date falls through and Lori apologizes for being a bitch about all of this, as they all do, which again. .has me questioning WHY we needed the whole sister group instead of just Lori and co. Or even just Lori. The show REALLY needed to learn character ballance and while it is struggling on occasion, as seen with how lincolncentric this season has been so far, this episode reminds me it used to be MUCH worse.
But Lucy thanks them because their intetnions were good, i’m going to need a citation on that given it came off as them wanting her to change because they found her weird nad not because they genuinely wanted to help her, and goes off to sulk about being alone. Lincoln dosen’t know what to do till the next day where, again suprisingly, Rusty had the right idea and had them come over to his place. We also find out he’s scared of blood.. which.. I can relate to. Seriously i’ve only insulted the guy once the whole episode
Tumblr media
But we find that out because Rocky made his own because he actually found Lucy’s really cool, what a kid. So Lincoln gets the brothers over to his house by damaging the project himself then claming they need to go back and once he sees Lucy’s around has Rocky go into the kitchen to get them some sodas which he agrees to because why not.
So in a nice little change-up on the running gag Rocky shows up startling Lucy and we get a really fucking cute scene as they hash things out. They have a normal conversation, finally getting past their shared awkwardness, in part because he admits he prefers her as herself.  As it turns out Rocky wasn’t scared.. he just thought she was too cool for him and felt intimidated and like Lucy had no idea what to say. The two then blush and after my heart melts and I freeze it back into shape in a few hours, the two decide to go look at her coffin collection and the next day proudly show off their perfected fake blood.. which destroys the project one more time. WAH WAH WAH. Oh rusty... I knew I could count on you to fuck up at least once.
Back in Black Final Thoughts: First off Black in Black: Weird Name. I mean it kinda gives the game away, not that fans would thikn horrifying mistake lucy would stick but still, and dosen’t really fit. Call it “Why Do Ghoul’s Fall in Love” or something like that or something related to makeovers. Makeover Mistep. Don’t Make Me Over. Makeover Your Case... okay that last one sounds more like the Legally Blond equilvent of Cobra Kai but the point is it’s just weird.  Outside of the parts I already went in detail about why their dreadful.. this ep is pretty good. That one bit isn’t enough to derail the episode, merley take it’s goodness down a notch, and Lucy is genuinely fun to watch and her heartbreak is hard to watch, and Rocky was an engaging new character with lots of potetial. A large part of why I did this episode. is to ask WHY he hasn’t come back. Rusty’s now a major character, to the point he’s co-headlining an episode next week with Zach... why Zach’s getting an episode, a SECOND one at that I have no earthly idea but the point is the show’s getitng comfortable enought heir giving lincoln’s friends starring episodes without him too, as Liam got one , if alongside Lynn the power couple of 2021 I tells ya. My point is, besides when is Stella getting an episode dammit, that Rocky really should make a come back as he both provides another character for Rusty and the rest of the lincrew to bounce off of, and he and Lucy had genuine chemstiry and now she has her OWN cast there’s an easy story there about her friends reaction to her dating a non goth. There’s a lot of story potetial with this precious boy bring him back.  But overall Pretty in Black is a decent episode, worth checking out if you haven’t seen it and rewatching even if you have.
Tumblr media
Stage Plight: So we open with Luann, whose one of my personal faviorites along with Leni, Luna, and Lucy. Granted I haven’t checked out her yearly bouts of going ax crazy on her family yet, but we’ll see in april. But outside of that, which is easy enough to isee iven it’s three episodes out of 214 where she’s like this and she gets her compuance, I find her precious, awkward, and entertaining, from her habit of saying “Get it “ to her love of puns, to the fact she’s essentially a wholesome version of the batman villian the ventriloquist..
Tumblr media
Yeah in case you forgot about this gag, she often talks through her dummy Mr. Coconuts.. who functions as her sounding board and helps her figure things out, talks like he’s from the 40′s or 50′s, and in general is a delight. He also once or twice, including this episode acts of his own free will so I don’t know if this is a Child’s Play situation and a dying comedian put his body in her dummy and she’s just rolling with it, if she somehow put a piece of her soul in a dummy or what the hell’s going on here. Compared to the series recently what with it’s mayoral campagins, children murdering guys, and actualy factual spies, this is mildly sane. MIldly. This may also be a serious and untreated case of Disociative Identnity Disorder, but given it’s not framed that way, and Coconuts just seems to be Luann’s way of talking with herself, for now she has’nt gone full vintriloquist. Thoguh givne her april fools day behavior and her profession as a comedian, she probably WILL become the new joker at a some point.
So the two are talking about Luann’s crush on Benny. Benny was introduced back in L is for Love and is one of the only three love interests there to actually return, and along with Sam the only onen to get multiple episodes about their relationship with their respective loud and a full personality. He was also MASSIVELY hated. For those who joined the fandom more recently, Luann was massively shipped with Maggie, an emo girl who showed up in Luann’s second spotlight episode and one where she didn’t torment her entire family, one I still need to see but have read about. It was pretty cute and nothing was wrong with that or the opposites attract dynamic. But said fans got REALLY and understandibly upset about his introduction and were presumibly none too happy he got to return and got his roll expanded.  And I.. genuinely like the kid. I have nothing against Maggie and in fact poly ship her with both Luann and Benny, as both seem like they’d be open to that and her dour demanor creates a nice contrast between the chipper luann and the somewhat chipper but also chill benny in the middle. I just feel he’s a very likeable character, sweet and awkward and very much on Luann’s wavelength. Like Sam he’s SIMILAR to his love intrest, having Luann’s love of puns, mime and the theater, but is also not quite as giggly about it and as I said has a bit more of a chill to him, in contrast to how sam is slightly more energetic to Luna’s near constant calm off stage.
I also like him because he’s voiced by Sean Giabrone, an up and coming voice actor who I first met watching the Goldbergs as Adam. His other biggest role so far has been playing Jeff on Clarence, though he’s currently picked up another lead voice roll as Yumulack on Solar Opposites, easily one of the best parts of that show, and has done othe rminor and recurring work, but I feel he’s got the potetial to have a long and fruitful career in voice acting if he wants it. I mean he’s far from the first former ABC star or former Ron Stoppable to make a long and successful voice career of himself. Be the next will fredle man you can do it.
But yeah I like him and think their cute together and feel demonizing a ship for one that had a low chance of happening isn’t fair, especially when you know, we’re in a fandom where incest runs rampant and is STILL a recurring problem to this day. Pick your fucking battles for god’s sake. As I mentioned you can put maggie in with this relationship or Still ship luaggie regardless.
So back in the episode Luann and Coconuts notice Benny signing up for the school play and decide to join him.
Tumblr media
Yeah i’ve noticed that a LOT of school set plots are about one of the mains joining a play to either be near or play romantic lead with their crush, or romantic hyjinks happening anyway.  Seriously i’ts a lot. I DID think most of them were around romeo and juliet, and Proud Family, Pepper Anne, and Ned’s Declassified all are probably why, it’s actually way more diverse and i’m happy to give credit to shows and movies for that:  Jimmy Neutron used Macbeth (IN SPACEEEEEE), American Dragon Jake Long used Antony and Cleopatra, as did the comic strip Foxtrot (That one I remembered), Daria used the canterbury tales, Arrested Development used Much Ado about Nothing, and one of my faviorite instances is the film Get Over it. It’s a cheesy as hell early 2000′s high school pg-13 comedy, that I loved as a teen and nos nostalgicaly love but am aware it has issues and some stitled acting as an adult where our hero joins the high school play in order to win his ex girlfriend back from the douchebag she’s seeing now and ends up falling for his best friend’s kid sister instead. They do a mid summer’ night’s dream, which is not only awesome SOMEONE thought to use that one , as the film has given me a special affection for the play.. but it’s a cheesy musical version written by the gloriously over acted director of the play played by martin short.
youtube
My faviorite part of it is the boy band style number about Hermia. Yes really. And I didn’t even get into the fact Siquo is one of the main character’s best friends, Kristin Dunst had to reshoot a scene while making the first rami spider-man , our heroes weird parents who are sex therapists and have no real filter AND offer Coolio a threesome on their advice show, and yes the actual coolio and yes that was an actual person that existed, or best of all the douchey rival who stole our heroes girlfriend, whose not only a former boy band member whose band peformed the song love scud, but also threatens our hero with nunchucks at one point.
youtube
Just see this movie.. i’ll hopefully talk about it some day.
Point is this kind of plot is stock.. but it’s the good kind you can do a lot of twists and turns with as every example mentioned, even the ones using the crush thing, had some clever twist or turn. And this one is no exception as we’ll see.
So we meet Ms. Berardo, the schools HAMMY as hell drama teacher who gives herself an entrance and is just wondrously entertaining throughout. She’s played by Grey Delise Griffin, which I could recognize immodestly and man does she bring it. Seriously bring her back. Wonderful character. So our heroine and her leading man audition and in a refreshing change of pace they do not get the lead rolls, instead a modern valley girl and a jock who writes his stuff on his arms do so instead.  But since Bernado’s a bit nuts, she decides to have the Montagues and Capulets practice separately despite tha not making a ton of sense, to drive up tension and what not. I mean isolating an actor to drive up tension is a vallid technique but even having not read Romeo and Juliet since high school, over a decade ago, I can tell you they have several scenes together and this is a logistical nightmare. However our heroine finagles her way over to swapping camps so she can talk to Benny since honestly given the whole thing was a way to get to spend more time with him, she might as well quit otherwise. It also.. isn’t a bad tactic. She wants to know him before asking him out properly, which is fair and a good way to go, and they already know each other and are friendly, and it’s something she likes doing anyway as they were both involved with a play in his first appearance and her liking theater makes sense as she’s a comedian, and while she clearly prefers standup, it’s often a natural evolution to go fromt hat to acting in comedy stuff or making your own show, so it’s not a bad idea to learn that side of the buisness too.
So Luann FINALLY gets to talk to Benny.. after fast ball specialing mr coconuts in the way of someone trying to sit down
Tumblr media
But we get a really cute moment as the two just.. talk like two dorky teenagers; They talk about the real mimes of la, which I want badly to be a show.. even if it’s just to find out what the Mime from Animaniacs is up to now. Where DID that guy go? Did the anvil finally kill him? These are the kinds of things that keep me up at night.. which is probably why I’m finishing this at 4 in the morning. But the two have genuine chemistry with Luann offering him her banana, phrasing, and making a pun he chuckles at. It’s adorable as all hell.
And Bernardo notices, and since her leads have no sparks she regretfully demotes them.. though their reaction is hilariously realistic as both are just happy to have less lines and walk off. She decides to cast Luann and Benny despite being freshman which would never happen but eh this is a unvierse with a snakebird and spies trying to destroy cherries with a death laser why I do I care two seasons later if two freshman got the leads in the play. Still I love the twist: our hero wasn’t trying to get the lead to creeiply force intamacy or anything.. the two just had natural chemistry and the director noticed that and wants to use it.
But while this should be great.. it isn’t as Luann keeps dodging actually kissing Benny when they rehearse the kiss. The reason.. is really frigging endearing. Luann simply hasn’t kissed anyone before, this will be her first.. and naturally she’s REALLY nervous about having it in front of a crowd or Benny thinking she’s a bad kisser. And I mean... while I had no personal experience at that age in kissing, most media and personal accounts detail it as awkward as fuck. But that’s the irony: she dosen’t KNOW it’s always awkward and thus is putting a ton of pressure on herself like anyone her age.
So she breaks under the pressure despite the reasurances of her Dummy/Possible Sign that she needs therapy and while she finds a way out the next Day Benny has aburbtly quit because of “chess club”.. which he’s not in. Luann finds him and talks to him about it, worried it’s her fault.. and she’s right, though Benny bowed out because she clearly wasn’t comfortable with him and didn’t want to make her kiss him when she clearly wasn’t comfortable with it. What a man what a man what a mighty good man. Luann TRIES to explain.. and then lets Mr Coconuts do it. Which usually in high school would lead to humilating rejection. instead Benny brings out his own puppet Mrs. Appleblossom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just those eyes.. black and souless.. like a doll’s eyes.. because htey are a doll’s eyes. So yeah Benny also has a puppet he uses to say the things he’s too nervous to say. Which is endearing even if again , KILL IT. KILL IT. I mean i’ts like tha tone guy from victorious if the puppets were actually charming and one of them looked like it was about to play hide the soul. Mrs. Appleblossom explains that Benny is also nervous and with the air cleared and the two realizing theyw ere nervous about the same thing... the inevitible happens
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So that fades into the kiss happening on stage, with Luann’s family cheering her, our heroes take a fookin bow and Coconuts and Appleblossom look on.. and talk somehow...and somehow got in the seats on their own.
Tumblr media
Stage Plight Final Thoughts: This episode.. is one of the series best, with great pacing, a low amount of repetition and a relatable conflict, while building up Luann’s love intrest to be a wonderful and engaging guy, and giving us a hell of a guest character and Mrs. Gerardo. This episod eis great, the chemistyr between Gambrone and Pucelli is fantastic. This one is just awesome and worth a look especially if the ship contrversy had hit you hard. It really is good. And there’s always room for benny. Until the next rainbow it’s been a pleasure.

I’m sending you another character because I just thought of this one! The whole New Girl group, including Coach (I couldn’t pick just one, that’s sacrilegious!)
Ooh okay!
Jessica Day
Why I like them:  I love how quirky she is, and how she’s a feminine feminist. I’ve always loved Zooey Deschanel’s fight for that in general, that you can be feminist but that means you can still love stereotypically feminine things. You can be soft and passive and emotional at times and still be strong. We’re all dimensional and comples. and that really shows with Jess
Why I don’t: Whenever she gets in modes where she tries to “fix” someone
Favorite episode (scene if movie): 1x03 (Wedding) literally one of my favorite episodes of New Girl. The dancing to Groovy Kind of Love is just *chef’s kiss* perfection
Favorite season/movie adaptation: Season 2, gotta love the Nick/Jess tension and build up
Favorite line: “I brake for birds, I rock a lot of polka dots, I have touched glitter in the last 24 hours. And that doesn’t mean I’m not smart and tough and strong.”
Favorite outfit: Literally obsessed with her entire wardrobe I can’t choose
OTP: Nick/Jess
Brotp: Jess & Cece, but I love all her platonic dynamics so much
Head Canon: She’s the mom that has dance parties in the kitchen with the kids and Nick, and builds tents/forts in the living room that they ALL sleep in and leave up for days
Unpopular opinion: Honestly love all her romantic relationships (even though I’m die hard Nick/Jess fan)
A wish: I liked their wedding and what they were going for, but also kind of wish it was more romantic, less quirky
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Her and Nick break up? Her and Cece end their friendship?
5 words to best describe them: Quirky, smart, funny, determined, caring
My nickname for them: Just Jess I guess haha
Nick Miller
Why I like them:  I love his sarcasm, his humor, his care and love for those around him
Why I don’t: I think sometimes his character was back and forth. Like season 1/2 Nick was less ridiculous and responsible I feel? But then like with the Nick/Jess breakup there were times he was just overly falling apart which I sometimes feel just doesn’t match his original character i don’t know
Favorite episode (scene if movie): Technically 1x03, but to give a different answer, 2x15 (Cooler), I mean... that KISS!
Favorite season/movie adaptation: Season 2
Favorite line: “Nick Miller, turning lemonade into lemons since 1981.” I literally quote this ALL THE TIME
Favorite outfit: I love when he wears green and Jess wears pink, it’s such a good costuming detail of the show
OTP: Nick/Jess
Brotp: Nick & Schmidt (special shout out to Nick & Winston though)
Head Canon: He reads to his kids every night before bed
Unpopular opinion: I honestly didn’t like the Reagan relationship (I liked her character, just not her relationship with Nick)
A wish: Same about the wedding with Jess
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Divorce Jess
5 words to best describe them: Sarcastic, funny, reliable, caring, relatable
My nickname for them: Don’t have one!
Schmidt
Why I like them:  I love love love his development as a character and actually really relate to him in later seasons. Also love how stereotypically “feminine” he is and isn’t this macho masculine guy and that’s seen as okay and accepting
Why I don’t: I hate all references to “Fat Schmidt” (very similar to Monica in friends)
Favorite episode (scene if movie): 5x22 (Landing Gear), I’m obsessed with his and Cece’s wedding
Favorite season/movie adaptation: For some reason I’m thinking Season 4
Favorite line: “I want to spend the rest of my life hearing all your stories.”
Favorite outfit: I really love his wedding suit
OTP: Schmidt/Cece
Brotp: Schmidt & Nick (although i LOVE Schmidt & Jess scenes)
Head Canon: He still works from home so he can be a stay at home dad, but also I think he took up party/event planning
Unpopular opinion: I’ll probably never refer to him as Winston Schmidt, I think it’s too weird haha
A wish: I don’t know on this one
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Divorce Cece
5 words to best describe them: Confident, funny, loyal, organized, loving
My nickname for them: Don’t have one!
Winston Bishop
Why I like them:  Everything Winston does is perfect tbh, he’s so funny and weird and I love him
Why I don’t: I honestly can’t think of anything off the top of my head
Favorite episode (scene if movie): 3x01 (All In) The puzzle stuff and him realizing he’s color blind is just iconic
Favorite season/movie adaptation: I feel like season 4?
Favorite line: “I know Word. And I can open a document. Save it. Save as. Print. Print preview.”
Favorite outfit: I love his bird shirts. I know they’re supposed to show he doesn’t have great fashion sense, but honestly I love them
OTP: Winston/Aly
Brotp: Winston & Cece (or tbh Winston & Furguson)
Head Canon: Him and Aly own lots of cats and he has multiple cat trees and towers in their house and it’s just pure and amazing
Unpopular opinion: I don’t think I have one. I guess again just that I genuinely like his fashion style
A wish: Not sure on this one!
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Divorces Aly (I know all my answers to this are basically the same haha)
5 words to best describe them: Funny, quirky, confident, caring, loyal
My nickname for them: I mean Winnie the Bish is iconic tbh
Cece Parekh
Why I like them:  How absolutely loyal she is to Jess. We stan positive and developed female friendships.
Why I don’t: I honestly don’t know on this one.
Favorite episode (scene if movie): 5x22 (Landing Gear), I literally just love thier wedding so much
Favorite season/movie adaptation: Season 3 or 4 I think
Favorite line: “You got hurt, that doesn’t mean you stop trying”
Favorite outfit: I love her end result wedding dress
OTP: Schmidt/Cece
Brotp: Cece & Jess, Cece & Winston
Head Canon: She just continues being super successful and happy
Unpopular opinion: I don’t think I have one?
A wish: I wanted her and Nick to have a better developed dynamic. I loved their scenes together, but feel like there wasn’t enough
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Divorce from Schmidt or end friendship with Jess
5 words to best describe them: Loyal, hardworking, caring, witty, strong
My nickname for them: Don’t have one (just Cece I guess haha)
Coach
Why I like them: His storyline is such a good one for me, as he becomes more complex and grows so much and I just really liked him on the show
Why I don’t: I didn’t really love him that much in the first episode, but maybe it’s because it was just one episode and we didn’t get much of his personality
Favorite episode (scene if movie): 4x22 (Clean Break)
Favorite season/movie adaptation: Season 4
Favorite line: “That boy looks like he was raised in a muffin”
Favorite outfit: For some reason, literally the only outfit I can think of is that green track jacket he wears haha
OTP: Coach/May
Brotp: Coach & Jess or Coach & Winston
Head Canon: He’s the fun uncle to everyone else’s kids and they all love when he comes around
Unpopular opinion: He should have been in more seasons and he should have been in the series finale
A wish: That he was in the series finale
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: That he just is out of the loft group’s lives forever. I just feel like that does a huge disservice
5 words to best describe them: Confident, funny, supportive, complex, honest
My nickname for them: I guess just Coach haha
Send me a character!

Review: "Don't Read The Comments" is a delightful YA antidote to GamerGate
Tumblr media
Thom Dunn:
Don't Read The Comments is the newest book by Eric Smith, a literary agent and author of The Geek's Guide To Dating and other books, as well as the owner of many adorable pets. (Full disclosure: Eric was also my editor many, many years ago on the Quirk Books blog, and we've remained friends since then.) It tells the story of two teens who meet and fall in love pretty much entirely online, with the help of a video massive multiplayer game called "Reclaim The Sun." Divya Sharma has managed to turn her love of the game into a popular streaming channel that brings in a little bit of revenue for her and her recently-divorced mother. Aaron Jericho is an aspiring video game writer whose parents want nothing more than for him to follow in their footsteps and go to medical school. A chance encounter in "Reclaim The Sun" helps these two isolated brown kids find solace in each other—but a well-orchestrated doxxing campaign from a group of racist, sexist trolls threatens to tear it all down.
On the surface, this is a perfect nerdy setup of star-crossed lovers coming together against all odds, with a touch of hyper-relevant social commentary. In execution, it pulls that off with plenty of delight. It's certainly not the most high-stakes story I've read—the only doomed kingdoms exist in a video game—but Smith manages to keep the characters' internal stakes on the edge the whole time. And that's realistic, because these are teenagers, for whom everything does feel the end of the world, even when it's not. Even when you're in the video game, and digital avatars do get destroyed, it leaves an emotional impact because it means so much to Divya and Aaron.
This is true even if you—like me—are not much of a gamer yourself. I'm certainly familiar with the fact that watching people live-stream video games is a thing, but it's not something I've ever engaged with. Smith makes this world instantly accessible and understandable, in a way that reminded me of my own high school days on the Internet. There's a nostalgic element to the wholesomeness of the community-building that happens online, which seems almost alien today—and yet, the looming threats from the Troll Army are still very real, and very present throughout the book. But Smith is also clever enough to make sure that these trolls are never reduced to cardboard cutouts of villainy. They are a huge segment of the gamer market, after all, and the power of profitability ends up affecting both Divya and Aaron in different ways. While Divya's character arc is generally more compelling, Smith does some important work with Aaron as the benign-but-well-intentioned guy who has to un-learn the stereotypically masculine behaviors he's internalized in his young life in order to actually become an equal and supportive partner for Divya—and that's a really important lesson for today.
There are plenty of delightful, corny-nerd-romance moments throughout the book that genuinely left me smiling and giddy. It's a quick read, and it's just an utter joy. I'll leave this review with the initial response that struck me about halfway through reading the book: it's everything I wanted Ready Player One to be, except with actual emotions, characters, and stakes that gave me something to care about and connect with.
Don't Read The Comments is out January 28 from Inkyard Press / Harlequin.

I woke up and decided to analyze each 9-1-1 pairing with regards to timing and also buddie
I just woke up and all im gonna say right now is this: this is long-winded but basically it takes a look at all the relationships on 9-1-1 and compare the timing and level of intimacy to that of buck and eddie’s relationship.
at the end of season 1 of 911 I remember watching and realizing they were gonna push the whole bobby and athena relationship, and I was surprised, because I didnt think there was any preamble or much hinting to it. but I guess it made sense to me - they were both single, both in the same social circle, they got along. sure, made sense. and then season 2 comes along and they’re smack dab in the middle of their relationship and we have zero time to adjust to it as an audience, but once again, we quickly did (mind you, I did not watch it live as intently as a fan would, but I do recall a lot of episodes because my mom watches the show and I remembered a lot when I was catching up myself). at this point bobby and athena are happily married and I really do love them together, genuinely.
then, maddie comes along and there’s a bit more to the story. she has a lot going on, a lot she’s been through and we spend much of her first season getting to know her and watching her confront her past and create her own present. chimney had a bit of a rough start with relationships (.... tatiana, sorry love, but you could’ve had it all sis). her and chimney start out as friends but it’s very clear from their blossoming friendship that the writers intend for us to want a relationship for them, and we DO. because theyre adorable together and genuinely have so much chemistry and they’re good for one another. it’s a bit of a slowburn but we get there eventually, so much so that in the season 3 finale, we find out maddie is pregnant! which yes, did make me cry shut up.
hen and karen had a rough start. even if they did look happy, they went through a ton of shit in the first and second season, especially the first season. which is fair; hen cheated on karen, and a large part of her storyline revolved around her ex and having to fight for denny. but there’s so much love between them, and a heavy history that is palpable through the screen. by the time season 2 comes around, they are a bit more grounded, and more so by the time season 3, too. it was interesting to think about their relationship is comparison to the others, which we watched blossom in real time. especially in season 3, because we see their love and support of one another during their attempt to have another child, and yes I also did cry when they met nia for the first time and no I will not elaborate. hen also went through a lot of shit this season; karen, despite what she went through, was and continues to be super wonderful and supportive, if a bit wary (but its okay because drunk karen and chim was a gift and we were well fed) for a second. their relationship is everything and also karen carries the whole show’s sense of humor on her back, I said what I said.
then we have three more main relationships: michael and athena’s, which is over in episode 1; buck and abby (im not counting ali because genuinely she was in three episodes, im only looking at the main relationships for each character), which starts and ends in season 1; and eddie and shannon, which technically starts before season 1 and kinda ends in season 2 but then she dies.
personally I dont think there’s much to add about michael and athena’s relationship. firstly, michael is a doll and if they hurt him in season 4 I will riot. but more so, the show gave us a LOT to work with in terms of their past relationship. also, it was interesting as a viewer, to learn about them from the bottom up. we see the tail-end of their romantic relationship and watch it get replaced with a genuine love and care for each other and their family. it’s a stark contrast to what a lot of shows on television would go for; it has a bit of rough, bumpy start, but by midway through season 2, they’re both on steady ground in terms of personal family life, and it’s actually a breath of fresh air. their dynamic is heavily surrounded by love for family, and we love love love that.
I think with abby and buck we all liked it a little, at the start. buck was sweet to her and we see a change in attitude and an effort from buck that is clear to have never been made before. abby is also a pretty admirable character; she takes care of her mother, is incredible at her job as a dispatcher, and she struggles with maintaining personal relationships but still gives it a go with buck. and buck, from the start to end of the season, grows a lot, both independently from and surrounding their relationship. as a viewer I watched the show way later on, so I knew abby was leaving and honestly, I really did like her and their chemistry. as we go into season 2, we have buck, who is still living in abby’s place, and then the introduction of eddie.
so here’s the thing; this is where I was trying to get to. the show (the writers) made and continue to make interesting character and relationship choices. with eddie and shannon, there is a very clear closeness and chemistry between them that yes, does get revamped for a little. there is also history, which is very important and can’t be disregarded. but more than anything, we are looking at timing in this meta. eddie comes along in season 2 and there are a lot of things happening: hen and karen are getting back to normal, athena and bobby are suddenly dating, buck and abby are - despite what buck thinks - very over, and chim is single and ready to pringle, plus maddie is new and freshly separated from d*ug. as we go through season 2, we see development with athena and bobby, very clearly on their way to a stable relationship and marriage. hen and karen are working through things, we don't really doubt their relationship either. both maddie and chimney are single, and they become friends, and we very quickly, as viewers, realize where the writers are taking us and what they want us to think.
so now im gonna get on my clown shit when I talk about buck and eddie. specifically, regarding the writers and their timing and why I think they’re either really stupid or actually very smart.
listen, everyone loves slowburn. hell, I'm writing a buddie au that will probably end up being like, upwards of 80k words and it’s gonna be a slowburn. buck, at the beginning of season 2, is in denial. im not gonna go through details but I will say that like..... okay, he’s heartbroken and thats fair. eddie, through means of “what a man,” is introduced and within one fell swoop, buck is immediately jealous and then like, twenty four hours later, they’re besties. tea. totally fair. in terms of timing, especially regarding relationships, there really aren’t many things to note: buck goes through that weird thing with taylor kelly, eddie goes through his drama with shannon, and when shannon wants a divorce, it kinda all goes to shit. by the end of season 2, we have buck trying to move on (and also nearly dying by means of a firetruck but thats not my point but also writers wtf) and dating ali (guys how do you spell her name lol) while eddie deals with the aftermath of his (ex, technically but I don't know if its mean to say that) wife. there are more than a few moments between buck and eddie that hint to a potential romance and feelings, like the santa scene and multiple others. then, season 3 is very very interesting.
buck and ally(? seriously I don't know) are broken up, eddie is focused on christopher and actually, also buck, and then the tsunami happens. there is also not much going on in terms of other relationships on the show; maddie and chim get their shit together while also having a crazy season starting and ending with talking about having kids with a brief intermission of “I cant say I love you” and nearly dying on both parts and albert appears lol (and then disappears, too?? wtf). athena and bobby are pretty cool, hen and karen are trying for kids and hen wants to be a doctor. we have some others, like josh, who go through too much shit for my liking and deserve better, and michael, who...... deserves the world.
okay. cleared that up. but timing-wise, if we look at the writers and their regard for timing, then we see this: any time two characters are single and there’s an ounce of friendship even hinted, they end up together. fine, that’s fair to say because we’ve seen it, right? after the tsunami, which is a WHOLE OTHER thing im not getting into, we have the lawsuit, eddie fighting, lena bosko (yall can be mad but she was hella cool), hen killing that cello (I think) player, michael getting sick, wow this season was fucking insane holy shit.
but in terms of character relationships and timing, a lot goes on with buck and eddie. in this one season alone, we go from eddie being the first one to hug buck at his surprise party and christopher giving buck a card with “bff” on it, then buck almost dies (again) and eddie is, quite frankly, the only one who takes no crap from him after he quits and then the tsunami and buck literally tearing himself apart to find his best friend’s son and collapsing at the sight of them reunited and then “there’s no one I trust more with my son than you” (is that the quote, I don't know it by heart) and THEN heart eyes, and then the lawsuit and supermarket and “you’re exhausting” and “christopher misses you” and “I couldn't even call you to bail me outta jail” and then the “I’m hearing a lotta ‘I’s, buck” and “I forgive you” and then the Infamous Kitchen Scene and me endlessly screaming WHY WAS BUCK’S HAND ON HIS BELT LIKE THAT? but also very pointedly I will say eddie fighting specifically when he can’t talk to buck and then it stops around the time he can hmmmmm. and also “this is eddie’s house im not really a guest here” then the fuckaifajfgkjfglgakjdgag tunnel collapsing and buck literally, once again tearing himself and everything apart for a diaz, digging with his bare hands and the defeated look on his face and refusing to think about eddie dying and eddie very nearly dying but then recalling christopher, his family, buck, then christopher and buck, then christopher and buck again, then a rare shannon appears, and then it’s just-
okay. OKay. O K AY. ok. here’s what I think. either the writers are incredibly smart or just viciously stupid, or the third, lesser liked option, they know what they’re doing and don’t give two shits. they are sitting on, and quite frankly they have created, a fucking goldmine. but in terms of timing, and relationship choices, we have eddie and anna(?) as a brief thing that will either reappear in season 4 or never be touched again, then abby’s lame-ass apology that was just her attempting to justify her actions by claiming she simply just should’ve told buck sooner. but a lot of this season explores buck’s loneliness, and in a way, too, eddie’s.
yes, eddie has christopher, and the others? they have families and significant others. buck has no one (except maddie but you get my point) to go home to. I think, in terms of timing and thematic elements, this season took the time to explore the loneliness of two men, but also by doing so, only high-lighted their need for one another, their love for one another. in the past, that has lead to two couples getting together: athena and bobby, and chimney and maddie.
so, my point is, season 4 is the make it or break it point. we got (weak-ass) closure with abby, eddie’s anger and regret with shannon (and yes, christopher), an exploration of both of their loneliness, and a very, very clear rocket launch of their closeness and dependence on one another, in season 3. it started with a lot and ended with closure on all extraneous factors that could have possibly deterred the two of them from a potential relationship. more so, abby is getting married and buck has no choice but to move on; he may not have loved her anymore but he needed the closure (and no I do not think it was good enough and I think buck deserved more but that’s not my point).
this can’t be read that much into. it’s not subtle, it’s not subtext. it’s very clearly there on our screens, with every small or big line. they mean a lot to each other. anyone with eyes can say that, has to say that. the problem is, what’s the intention? like, are the writers actually doing what I've just said, setting up for a slowburn, taking it season by season. you can look at it that way, and it actually doesnt take a lot to get to that point of a thought process. there is a HUGE, fundamental shift in buck and eddie’s relationship in season 3. there is a perceived difference in their friendship versus both their relationship with others and the friendship between others. denny doesn’t call chimney his best friend, “his chimney.” athena has never once told hen she trusts her children with her more than anyone in the world.
there are a lot of interesting choices that have been made over the course of three season, particularly this past season. there are also a lot of possibilities for the upcoming season. we may see a return of that teacher, we might see buck fall into other women, we may see eddie not fully over shannon, or (hopefully not) an abby return. it’s just a matter of waiting, but there’s no denying the way things were left off; buck and eddie were both single throughout the entirety of season 3, considerably closer and not guests at each other’s place, both very lonely in spite of the people around them, closer to each other than the rest of the 118, both have a family member (or more than one for eddie) to keep them anchored. buck is, yes, more lonely, but they are both left off in the same place. my question, more than anything, is whether it’s intentional after all that’s said and done. and if it’s not, then why, pray tell, are the writers following their OWN very clear and self-fulfilled pattern of timing and relationships to an even stronger extent than they ever have?

When did you last see someone you know in public? It’s been awhile. I wouldn’t want to run into anyone right now. :/
Do you enjoy going to the dentist? Noooooo.
When did you last eat something you didn’t like? I don’t recall, it’s been awhile. I only eat the same few things to be honest and obviously those are all things I like. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for those things, though. I have a messed up appetite and sometimes I don’t feel like eating or nothing tastes good. Sometimes eating for me is more like a chore.
Do you think you’d survive if zombies took over the world? Nope. When did you last hang out with a bunch of friends at one time? A few years ago when I had friends.
What kind of music is your least favorite? EDM, techno, house music stuff.
Are you and your best friend complete opposites? We have our similarities, but yeah we’re also pretty different.
Would people around you say you’re regularly a mean person? I hope my family doesn’t think I’m mean. I know they’d say I’m moody and sensitive, though.
Do you like the color yellow at all? Yes, it’s one of my favorite colors.
If you were to write a novel, what would it be about? >> I have no idea, which is why I’m not writing a novel. <<< Same. I have no motivation or inspiration to write one.
How many times have you logged in to Bzoink? (it has a counter) Zero.
Are you currently pretending to be someone’s friend? No.
Are you an impatient person? Yes.
Are you afraid to watch movies that have sex scenes with your friends? Why would I be afraid?
Who sings the last song you listened to? I forget what song it was at the moment.
Why do you think some actors dont want to see their movies/shows? I know for me that I hate seeing myself on a recording. It’s so cringy seeing and hearing myself. I critique everything. I actually took an acting class in college (me? an acting class? wild, I know) and one of the things he had us to do was we’d do scenes by ourselves or with someone else and he recorded them so we could watch them back. The worst part? We did this as a class. We all watched each others. Ugh, I died every time. ANYWAY, I imagine that’s how it is for actors. They’re their own biggest critics.
Do you think fortune tellers are the devil’s messengers (haha)? I don’t believe in that stuff because I think it does mess around with evil stuff.
Would you rather use napkins or paper towels? Paper towels.
Do you go to the pool in the summer time very often? >> I never go to the pool. <<<
Have you ever had a serious issue involving your eyes? Just that I need glasses.
Have you ever watched South Park? Who’s your favorite character? I’ve some parts of episodes here and there cause my brother watched it a lot. I wasn’t into it, though.
Do you have sensitive teeth? Yes.
Do you enjoy or hate snow days? Why is this your choice? It doesn’t snow here.
Do you turn pale when you get sick? I’ve been told that.
Does it bother you to get shots in the mouth? Does it hurt? It’s not a pleasant experience.
When did you last talk seriously with one of your parents? Yesterday. I talk with them everyday.
What is the day of the week currently? Wednesday.
Is anything exciting coming up in the next three months? Christmastime.
Do you ever borrow money from someone? My parents or brother sometimes. Well, with my parents don’t expect it back, but I do pay back my brother.
Do you know anyone who tells every single thing you say? No. I used to know someone like that, though.
When did you last kiss someone on the cheek? Who was it? My Nana last year when they were here visiting.
Why do you think people like Lady Gaga so much? Ask ‘em.
Do you have a lot of enemies, or not so much? I don’t have any.
Can you count backwards from 100 without a mistake? Yeah.
Do you have any friends you’ve had since birth? My mom. ha.
Do you care if your friends talk badly about you? Uh, yeah I’d care if my friends talked badly about me.
Would you rather drink out of a straw or just the cup alone? I use straws.
Does anyone ever say they miss you often? No.
Would you rather become a wizard or a vampire, if you had the choice? Neither.
Is there anyone out there who has made you feel miserable? No, my life and health do that.
Do you have a problem answering personal questions? Usually not on surveys.
What color is the vacume-cleaner in your house? Black.
Have you already moved out of your parents’ house? No.
Are your parents divorced, married or seperated? They’ve never married, but they’re together and have been for over 30 years.
Have you ever thought you might just have obsessive compulsive disorder? No.
Do you think it’s rude to text someone else while on a date? If they were having an ongoing conversation and were totally into their phone, yes.
What is the funniest movie you’ve ever seen? I’ve seen a lot of funny movies.
What are your views on our current president? It’s 2AM, let’s not get into that.
Has one of your websites ever quit operating or shut down? Were you sad? It sucked when Xanga shutdown. So many surveys I had on there. :(
Is it awkward to see your best friend’s parents out in public? My best friend is my mom, so no it wouldn’t be awkward to see my grandparents out in public. Unfortunately, both my maternal grandparents have passed away. :(
Who is the person you talk to the most in your house? My mom and brother.
Is there a television show out there that you never miss? >> I wouldn’t say never, but there are a few shows that I make a priority to keep up with. <<< Same. And if I do miss it, I go back and watch it when I can.
What movie have you seen too many times to be healthy? There’s a few movies I’ve seen countless times now because they’re on TV quite a bit. I genuinely like them, but the reason I’ve seen them so many times is because they’re on a lot. I like to have my TV on, which often serves as background noise, so if I see there’s a movie on I like I’ll put that on.
What are the last two digets of your phone number? Nah.
Does it creep you out to see people with mullets? It doesn’t creep me out, but I admit I don’t care for the hairstyle at all. Sorry.
What is your biggest responsibility in your household? I don’t really have one?
How cold did it get where you live, last winter? Our winters get into the 30s (F) at night and low to mid 50s during the day. That’s really cold for us Californians who get triple digit weather during the summer and experience a lot of 80-90 degree weather. I love winter time.
Do you ever wish you could go back in time to redo something? So many things I’d like to change.
Ever accidentely pull out a filling from your tooth? I’ve lost some before.
Do you ever wonder what your exes are doing? Mostly just when asked about them in surveys, which is like all the time.
Have you ever been caught in a huge lie with your parents? Yes.
Do you ever listen to the radio anymore? No. My parents and brother play their Spotify in their cars. Sometimes I’ll put mine on.
Does it bother you to have personal conversations with people? I just have a hard time with conversations like that.
Ever ride in a limo? When did you last do so? Yeah, several times. My dad used to drive limos when I was a kid. It was so cool.
Do any of your body parts hurt at this moment in time? Yes.
Are you sober at the time being? Yes.
Do any of your friends constantly do things to annoy you? My family does sometimes, ha. But I’m sure I’m annoying all the time. :/
When did you last eat a Starburst? What color was it? Wow, I don’t even know. It would have been quite a few years ago.
Have you ever lied to someone & said they could sing when they couldn’t? >> No. Also, I don’t really believe that singing is a thing you need to be “good” at in order to enjoy doing, so it doesn’t matter to me if someone’s singing sounds good to me or not. It’s something one can do simply for the joy of doing it. <<< That’s true.
Do you ever call backstabbers out on what they do? I don’t know any, thankfully. I’m also not like a backstabber vigilante who goes around taking on backstabbers lol.
How many people in the world do you trust? A few. I don’t really have an issue with trust, I just have a hard time opening up and expressing myself. Like I said, personal, serious conversations that involve feelings and emotions are difficult for me.

Young Justice Season Three spoilers
YJ Producers: We have a Muslim superhero this season, look how great she is and how progressive we are!
Actual YJ episodes: Okay so Muslim superhero might be a bit of a stretch since well, if you wanna get technical, she’s actually a sentient piece of alien technology whose soul went into the body of a dead Muslim girl when her original alien tech got smushed. But even though she continually insists that she is not Gabrielle Daou, the Muslim girl whose body this was originally, and that’s the entire reason she chose a new name for herself, she is a completely different person aka a non Muslim, not even human person - she still wears a hijab! Totally counts!
YJ Producers: We always wanted to portray LGBTQ+ superheroes, we’ve actually had one the whole time and you just didn’t know it because mean old Cartoon Network wouldn’t let us show it, now that we’re on our own we can and will be showing LGBTQ+ characters this season!
Actual YJ episodes thirteen episodes into the season: Error 404 Content Not Found
YJ Producers: We’re finally gonna include Cyborg! Victor Stone is in the house, we love and appreciate that character so much, we really wanted to wait until we could do his story justice!
Actual YJ episodes: So see, after getting gruesomely almost-deaded after a huge blowout fight in which we showed Vic has a lot of rage cuz Black Teenage Boys Are Just Like That, that was all aimed at his dad for not showing any interest in his life and for never showing his son he cared until now cuz Black Dads Are Just Like That, well okay, yeah that sucks, but what happened NEXT is really cool - so his dad saved his life, right? Even if it was by using alien tech that every single person he came in contact with kept telling him wasn’t like normal tech, it was sentient and thus yes COULD be bad, which was further demonstrated through the fact that said life-saving tech kept like...hijacking Vic’s own body and turning him into a rage-monster that we could totally show being a Stereotype of Black Teenage Boy Aggression as he remorselessly hunted a terrified Violet but it wasn’t his fault, he was totally powerless to control his own actions cuz of the Evil Alien Tech in his body and like wait, whats bad about that, I forget the question??? Oh right! But stop WORRYING, its all good, see, as long as he stayed around Violet and never went too far from her ever, the woman of color had magic rage-pacifying skills that existed solely to calm down the Stereotypical Angry Black Teen when he couldn’t control himself because Reasons. LOL WHY ARE YOU UPSET, WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT, THIS IS A GOOD VICTOR STORY, ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED???
YJ Producers: We love and value our characters of color and would never hurt them, we’ve actually taken steps to make sure of that!
Actual YJ Episodes: Violet and Vic are both practically unkillable, see? As proof, watch us violently murder Violet in every single episode in new and creatively gruesome ways, with bonus Vic near-death experiences that allow us to show him just utterly wrecked in ways we’ve never shown a single white character, even in this season when we’re all about showing off how much creative freedom we have now without CENSORSHIP!
YJ Producers: This season is also going to focus on the stress and mental health issues that go along with life as a superhero, and who better to demonstrate this by suffering from superhero-related PTSD than Jefferson Pierce? The guy whose divorce already showed the stress and relationship issues that go along with life as a superhero (since all our white heroes in relationships are still going strong)!
Actual YJ Episodes: Oh, nothing say about this one huh, PUNK? That’s right, we actually did exactly what we said we’d do, see? Just look at how much time we spend talking about how traumatized Jefferson is and how miserable he is after killing a kid, and that’s nothing we’ve ever done (or would ever do - SHH THEY DONT NEED TO KNOW THAT) to a white hero! PLUS, like, he’s definitely getting better though, thanks to the support of the much younger character he’s surrounded by, instead of y’know, turning to his established friends and colleagues his own age for support! AND AND AND don’t forget about his growing relationship with the white doctor lady who is definitely NOT super creepy and NOT likely to betray him and break his heart and/or force him to make painful decisions when choosing between her and the kids he’s vowed to protect at some climactic point later in the season that all of that is super clearly not building towards!
YJ Producers: And don’t forget about Jaime Reyes and Virgil Hawkins and Mal Duncan and Raquel and Karen! They’re all still here too!
Actual YJ Episodes: We’ve definitely forgotten that Jaime Reyes and Virgil Hawkins and Mal Duncan and Raquel and Karen are all still here too.
YJ Producers: Major life events have happened to these heroes offscreen in the time we’ve been away from them, stuff that’s really shaped who they are and who they’ve become by now. All this stuff really matters, its how we’re different from other shows, we don’t pretend these characters stop existing the second they’re off your screens! Looks, Barbara Gordon is in a wheelchair! She’s Oracle now!
Actual YJ Episodes: Why would we bother to explain when or how this happened with even a single line of dialogue when The Killing Joke exists and is available on our streaming service? You sound dumb.
YJ Producers: Kaldur is our proof of how important our characters are to our over-all universe, look how far he’s come! He’s not Aqualad anymore, he’s AquaMAN, he’s one of the co-chairs of the Justice League, right up there with Wonder Woman who he definitely doesn’t need to turn to for approval or oversight of his actual decisions!
Actual YJ Episodes: We’re pretty sure we covered all this in the two minutes of screen time Kaldur’s had all season!
YJ Producers: Look, bottom line, this season, being away from Cartoon Network really allowed us to stretch our wings and flex creatively, we’re doing a lot of stuff with this story that just wouldn’t have been possible before, when we were on a network like CN and had overseers restricting our every move! This season gets a lot darker, a lot more mature, a lot more everything cuz freedom of speech baby! That’s what its all about!
Actual YJ Episodes: In support of our thesis, watch us up the graphically violent content of every single episode and kill lots of people instead of just cartoonishly knocking them out and carting them away to jail! That’s it, that’s everything we wanted to do that CN wouldn’t let us, that now we have total freedom to prove in a myriad of ways! What do you mean, what about *looks at smudged writing on hand* LGB - look we can’t be expected to read what that says when we have graphic violence to depict, fuck yeah!
YJ Producers: Besides, in happier news, its not all doom and gloom this season! Connor and M’Gann got engaged! Now that we’ve completely moved past all the stuff M’Gann did in S2 and don’t consider it worth mentioning, Superboy and Miss Martian are back together, and SB is totally gonna marry the woman who betrayed him in the one highly specific way that goes back to the very source of every trust issue he has and reason he has so many walls pushing people away!
Actual YJ Episodes: Yeah this is definitely happening. Suck my dick, Connor fans and fans who relate to and identify with SB and his story and think its maybe just not the healthiest to wave a wand and go “Happily ever after!” With, y’know, the guy whose greatest canon fear and paranoia is the sanctity of his mind being violated and being unable to trust that his own thoughts are really his and not just being spoon fed to him in a pod at Project Cadmus or by his telepathic girlfriend when she doesn’t like his opinion or his criticism of her actions and just doesn’t want to fight about it anymore. Look, she said she was sorry, get over it. What more do you want? For Connor to move on and have a healthy romantic relationship with someone who he doesn’t ever have to wonder if his trust in her and second chance is real and valid and not just her making him say and do what she wanted, like the way she definitely has before? For him and M’Gann to rebuild their trust over time, gradually, as friends, with the understanding they can be close again but romantic intimacy between them specifically probably isn’t in the best interests of the guy who will always have to wonder now if his thoughts are really his, no matter whether or not that’s true? Yeah, no, that sounds like a lot of work tbh, and really, we just like Miss Martian and Superboy together, they’re just cute, you know? Sides, we killed Wally and we don’t actually wanna talk about why Barbara’s paralyzed now and like, focus on her as a character, so what other longterm pairings do we really have? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THESE ARE ALL OUR OWN CHOICES AND IF WE WANT BETTER FOUNDATIONS FOR OUR CHARACTER DYNAMICS WE SHOULD MAKE BETTER CHOICES? UGH GET OFF MY BALLS, MAN.
YJ Producers: We’ve got Terra this season, and we’re doing some really cool, brand new things there.
Actual YJ Episodes: Slade’s Apprentice arc from Teen Titans the show and The Judas Contract in the comics, but really aren’t they the same thing? If you think about it, is it even possible to do that in a new way? Look, its not like we could do anything MORE original than that, like what, did you want us to have Tara genuinely be the good and loving sister she was when she reunited with her brother and expressed how traumatized she was by the things she did when she was supposedly being mind-controlled, actually invested in saving other trafficked meta-kids from being used and hurt the way she had been? Like, the way it seemed she was being written before we revealed it was a fake-out and she was actually working for Slade exactly like those other times we swore we were gonna be more original than that? Ugh why are you so unrealistic, dude, you have such weird expectations.
Me: Like dear YJ, you’ve still got me watching, because like a) I’m weak and I need this, b) nostalgia, c) Dick, Artemis, Connor, Jefferson and the chance of Jason and also Violet, Brion and Vic are all still enjoyable as characters even though your treatment of them and your narrative choices are all extremely suspect and also craptastic and also I really wanna punch you for a lot of this.
But goddamn, this was NOT your best work, and after years of waiting only to get this? Like.....so not crash, dudes. Not even a little bit.

okay so im feeling crazy and detached again (as usual lately)
but instead of spiraling into absolute fucking panic, I’m deciding to take today to just ... not wholly subscribe to this manner of thinking BUT. JUST FOR NOW. I feel like taking some of the craziness flack off myself and blaming it on some shit outside of myself. Because feeling this weird and detached cant all just be me. So here’s a brainstorming of whats got me fucked up, in no particular order:
Trump is our stupid President
That guy who told me he loved me daily and asked me to be his girlfriend after basically living with me immediately after meeting me and I fell for hard despite a ton of red flags CHEATED on me while I was away visiting home.
And then blamed it on MY bad communication? fuck that guy.
But now I see one of the girls he slept with (multiple times, three days in a row) I see her everywhere all the time in everyones instagrams, at everyones parties... ugh.
Um. People are dying. Close to me. More importantly and spefcifically women I love are dead.
I didnt get to see Inga before she died. I was too busy forging a relationship with CHEATER GUY. Didnt get home in time to see her. Talk to her.
Grandma. This has been the whole first year without her, come November. Its subtle, but terrible and I hate it. She was my last matriarch. The last woman who’s blood is in me.
because Mom’s dead too. And has been since August of 2015. 2015, right? God it feels like forever ago now, probably because I’ve pushed it away. She died unexpectedly and NO ONE IN MY FAMILY HAS SAID THE WORD SUICIDE OUT LOUD even though thats what happened. She OD’d on prescribed opiate painkillers to escape her depression. And we NEVER talk about it.
So I kindof feel insane. Not talking about things that are clearly there. Like, are they not clearly there for anybody else? Now all my women are gone. My brother literally avoids talking about feelings. My dad is a little more receptive but is more the comforting type than the forthcoming, express onesself type. Getting sentimentality out of my brother is like pulling teeth sometimes. But yet if his son does something cute, its God’s Work and he cant help but cry and get that beautiful lovie squishy look on his face.
I’m jealous of my own nephew. I see the way my Mom loved me, in the way my Brother loves his son. And I miss being that perfect to somebody. My Dad loves me forever and always and there isnt a word for how grateful I feel for our relationship. I dont take that for granted at all. It actually kindof scares me because... hah, well what if Dad dies? Like, before I’m ready? I’ll be even MORE fucked!
Anyways. Austins been pissing me off. I’m sorry but although Polyamory is possible and cool and im sure quite beautiful for many,
The Austin poly scene is fucked and tainted and a bunch of slutty people having orgies and not TALKING about anything and its ruining the healthy vibe poly is incumbent upon.
So, whatever I’m angry. So fuck that noise.
I feel like because of cheater guy and my anger at the psuedo poly orgy sexy bullshit scene in Austin, I feel like I’ve broken up with a whole group of friends. Like, I dont want to be around any of it. I dont want to see you eat mushrooms and twerk. I dont want to see your stupid, super naked outfit. I dont think its hot you carry a flogger or can pole dance or slink around like a tarantino character. It used to be hot and thrilling and fun, when I felt like it was connected and for love and sharing and caring. But now it all just is slutty and vapid and useless and cold. Like a sad clown. And thats not sexy, its dark and desperate. *this is about both VERY particular people and broad general strokes. There are several extremely amazing friends in the scene and outskirts thereof that truly inspire me and dont fall into this catagory in my mind, although they’d probably still be angry with me for dissing things ^^ the way I just did but. fuck it, this is MY journal entry and I can be irrational if I want to.
You cant be open fucking minded ALL the time. Sometimes people really arent acting with anyones best intentions but their own. I’ve used up SO MUCH FUCKING ENERGY making myself soften and open and “woke” and trying to go with everybodys flow. And I’m exhausted and over it. I have my own principles and theres nothing wrong with having differing opinions than someone else.
All summer I’ve been feeling like I’m a bad person for not liking or not understanding this hyper sexual scene in Austin. I thought, “why am I shaming a scene thats giving me opportunity to really shine and be free?” when, in an IDEAL world, yes thats what the scene could be. But in what actually fucking unfolds -- humans SUCK and dudes SUCK and girls SUCK and everybody (especially when horny) are fucking STUUUUPIIIIIDDDD and ideals get thrown out the window! people arent nearly as “woke” as I gave them the actual credit for. Seriously. So! I’m fuckin OUTTIE!
I’ve felt broken up with a whole scene. FUck cheater guy, fuck poly, fuck orgies, fuck people who are reckless with my love.
Back to the list:
I’ve been eating too much out of boredom. Which I’ll blame on lack of quality social interaction in this town. Where are the scholars? Where are the sexy edgy BRAINY people? I’m tired of hot people in little clothing in the summer.
Ah! Another thing for the list. its been TOO FUCKING HOT OUT. FOR MONTHS. 100 DEGREES FOR MONTHS. thats enough to make anyone insane.
So i’m sick of teenie boppers in their nothing outfits in the heat.
I want old smart people in peacoats. I miss books and weather and frowns. Irritable debates about literature or physics or religious theories.
I only like my own brand of cigarettes.
My roommates are annoying me. I dont really like my house anymore. Theres too many humans and not enough square footage. Four people to one kitchen is TOO MUCH SHIT. EVERYONE BUYS THEIR OWN BANANAS AND THEY ALLLLLL GO BROWN ON THE TABLE. thats four peoples worth of bad bananas. FUcking stupid.
I dont have a hairdresser here. Sometimes when I feel shitty I like to throw money at the problem. Buy something. Get a haircut. See a show. Etc.
And my hairdresser love is in Philadelphia and getting a flight to get a haircut is slightly insane (without a longer visit)
I miss Adam.
What else can I blame my upset on. Shitty politics, shitty weather, shitty social sexual scene in my town, I dont like my house, I dont like my hair. Its too expensive to live here. No one in my immediate acquaintance or friend circle seems interested in the sort of romantic relationship I’m seeking, nor if they did does anyone have the “it” factor I look for which I’ll *try* to describe maybe in another post.
So. I sit inside my room and try to fix stupid remedial things as if itd make a big impact. I tidy and put away clothes in attempt to feel less cluttered but am too scared to make BIG cuts and BIG changes. So instead I light insence and watch netflix and eat too much. I have started going to Barre3 again more and have been semi regular with therapy so thats something.
I really ought to start doing “morning pages” like the book Fiona loaned me suggests in its FIRST GODDAMN CHAPTER. But, alas, I am lazy.
No, I have become recently lazy.
I’m spoiled. I dont do things I dont want to do. Its a major character flaw. I only push and struggle if I see worthyness in it, and lately theres been serious lack of evidence of that in, well, anything.
 #depression!
so, I guess in summation- because nothing has been a WORTHWHILE struggle, EVERYTHING feels like a struggle. Humph. thats... thats not good. But it does, because i dont see the worth in a lot of goals or tasks or even relationships, (and i dont mean the greedy “what can I GET for ME out of this!” sort of b.s.) (I mean the... conserve precious energy, is this going to teach me something or help me grow as a person or bring love into my life sort of vibe) ...
when I dont think the energy expenditure is going to pay off, I dont do it. Or I do it half way or lazily or with tentative fear. I guess I could do an experiment and just do everything with HOPE and see if my energy put in will get a different result... but. like. I feel like I did that all summer and he cheated on me. And my “friends” said “dont be angry, be poly” and I couldnt call on my Mom or Grandma and so I call on eating and isolation and running away to visit home where no one cares I dont have a job. where the house is big and the air is cold and my friends are smart.
I really miss Kristian. That was one of the greatest feelings of self love in my entire life. I felt like, if someone that special noticed ME. Saw ME. Little old, semi chubby, not famous ME, and wanted me around for a couple tour dates. Then I ought to believe in myself TOO. I wanted to dance, I wanted to make art, I wanted to take photos, I wanted to be bold, I wanted to be humble, I felt so open and content with myself. I was motivated to work out, I was motivated to eat healthy and clean and small portions. It was easy. It felt so fun. I loved him. I dreamt big. My imagination was so warm and excited. My inner critic was GONE.
But he faded away. He got back with his ex. The shooting star left the sky. I’m still grateful for the experience at all, but.
I feel a little stupid for thinking anything could’ve happened.
And I truly miss feeling so special and excited about life.
I dont want to run away from Austin out of fear. But I cant tell if I’m unhappy and want to leave genuinely, or if this is the spoiled part of me thats like, “this sucks, lets leave.” instead of pushing though, curating something better with some struggle, and sticking it out.
How do people make big life decisions like this? I feel like thats what marriages do. People stay together and fight. But sometimes they get divorced anyways, its just been longer. More years wasted. When maybe it wouldve been healthier to leave sooner and cut the cord and be free to live without, sooner.
I really like a lot of things about this city. But I really dislike a lot too. And I cant tell where I want my life to go, in a grand sense, so its hard to pick which attributes will matter in the long run.
I dont think I should leave yet. Maybe a new house. Or like, serious efforts to declutter this one. Is this just excuses? Ugh.
Declutter this house. If that doesnt feel better, leave the house and move to a new part of austin. If that doesnt feel better, leave austin.
I need a job.

ENDGAME KILLED ME
Okay, so I'm just gonna rant and yall ain't gotta read jack squat. this is for me to find in a couple of years and hate myself for ;)
WHAT THE FUCKITY FUCK FUCK WAS UP WITH NAT DYING LIKE AND TONY DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER AND STEVE WENT BACK TO PEGGY AND TONY AND HOWARD AND LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI LOKI
Okay. One thing at a time
I was a little bitch and found it online first, and then went to go see it in the theaters cause I had to work opening weekend and Spoilers are a botch. also, I knew i would be crying a lot and so I was able to pause it while I was at home so its fine don't worry about it.
But like.
the opening, with Clint, teaching his daughter to shoot a bow, and then his family dying. I was crying. weeping. wasn’t sobbing yet.
tony and nebula playing paper football was great. thank you. like we got to see tony and nebula interact and nebula was stiff and awkward but not trying to kill Tony and Tony totally let her win and I love him for it. so much. I'm crying again. it's fine.
!!!!!!!!!!!!! rocket and nebula holding hands was so sweet!! it really shows you how upset they are cause of !!!!!!!!!!! yeah and nebula lost her sister, and then the rest of the Avengers. she failed.she couldn't even avenge her sister. and rocket. lost Groot once? and now it's even more painful. and he lost the rest of the guardians. and they only have each other now and I'm going to die
tony saying “I lost the kid” came into my house and shot me point blank in the chest
Tony yelling at Steve and throwing a fit was not what I expected and it upset me cause it was like watching your parents argue before the divorce. but yeah he was justified i believe.
Carol showing up was great and i loved her and Thor interacting!!
The first 20 minutes came into my house and shot me in the head cause that’s not how i was expecting this movie to go and I love it
Thanos destroying the stones. it makes sense now but before i saw the movie i never would’ve thought of it!!!
A rat saves the universe. Okay but how did strange know that the rat would do it like??? time magic wibbly wobbly stuff i guess
Also scott being the one to come up with the plan!! Love it!! ANd poor cassie!!
TONY STARK HAS A DAUGHTER! SHES  ADORABLE AND ID KILL FOR HER TBH
I WANNA SEE MORGAN AND PETER INTERACT OKAY BYE
I’m trying to remember the order it happened like?? its so much but im not complaining!!!
yeah just time travel. not what i was expecting
OKAY SO
Steve, scott, and tony go back to 2012-the first avengers movie. Loki gets the Tesseract, and he disappears. that prompts tony seeing his dad and steve seeing peggy in 1970
but
Thor and rocket go to The Dark World movie. who cares what year. but it’s after 2012-the avengers. YOU SEE LOKI THERE. how? why? did they explain it and i missed it? is loki going to pop back up somehwere? I’m confused? is loki going to end up alive like gamora did? its past gamora brought into the present? its past loki brought into the future by him not being on that ship when thanos comes for the tesseract? how does the dark world happen w/o loki? how does Ragnorok happen? I am confusion. time travel logic confuses me unless its back to the future time travel logic.
Okay so the hulk. I’m cool with this development, I feel like the last movies with the hulk were leading up to this and it wasn't just hastily written into canon unlike somethings *cough* clint’s family in Age of Ultron *cough cough* what with the hulk leaving in age of Ultron and then him Ragnarok and his character in infinity war
my dad, on the other hand, is not going to be happy. I already texted him. He’s not happy with me
Okay so the ancient one already knew about strange??? like?? But then it leaves her and bruce not fighting and she’s like, “ well he must’ve had a reason” and i respect that
also the wizards fighting in 2012 was wrapped up in a nice little bow
steve fighting steve was great
steve being a smart cookie and saying “hail hydra” was neat but now the hydra dude are going to be confusion? and poor past steve, he has to fight himself and he heard “bucky is alive” hell think it was a joke and then when bucky is alive the guilt;’( i would feel guilty anyways) also i expect lots and lots of fanfic for me to read about steve finding bucky faster
Tony getting to talk to his dad!! Im so happy!! It s so great!! if only he got to see his kid again before he died!!
natasha... and clint.... i....
i watched the first avengers movie when i was aboutttt 10? i remember seeing nat kick ass. I loved their interactions. I . I knew she was going to be the one to die. i knew as soon as i saw them and only them there. the writers weren’t going to kill clint cause he was trying to get his family back nad they already established that the avengers was nat’s family. i cried then. im crying now. but seeing thise two genuinely willing to die so the other didn't?? that’s some good shit you can @ me if you like. and i dont feel like it took away from nat’s character. did tony’s sacrifice take away from his? no. no it didn’t  i just wish that there had at least been clint lighting a candle for her at the end of the movie. some form of recognition. but thats what fics are for i guess
also her words were “see yall in a sec” or smthg like that before they all went into the past  and im not okay
this ended up being longer than i intened.... im not even finished yet... ill just hit the high highlights from here on out
loki. love him. can’t wait to see more him
they really hyped up captain marvel wayyyyyy too much for my taste but she’s still badass and i love her
the peter and tony hug i was very grateful for but at that moment i knew tony was going to die. and so i cried twice as hard
pepperoni being the strongest they’ve ever been and I'm fucking here for it
or well i was...
steve wielding thor’s hammer (i cant spell, sue me) was great and i was happy all the way Up until his shield broke
tony’s funeral as really well done. the arc reactor pepper gave to tony, Harley being there, everyone being there. it was good. i cried. really loud. so yeah. his hologram. he fucking planned for dying so im not okay
also strange and the whole “if i tell you it won’t happen” what did that mean? that if he tells tony that tony will die he won’t snap??? uhhh sounds fake but okay marvel
peter is so going to have a shit ton of nightmares from when he was hugging the gauntlet on the ground and then the badass ladies coming to save him
great scene by the way 9/10. would be 10/10 but no Natasha
i wanna see harley and peter interact and be great big brothers to morgan
Steve going back in time was some utter fucking bullshit. that deserves it’s own rambling post from me so watch out for that mess i’ll post at a later date
all in all(that wasn’t everything I assure you I'm just tired)
I loved the movie. It didn’t let me down like Age of Ultron did. It seemed, to me anyways, to have fewer comedy moments than many of the earlier movies which is to be expected. I did not see the plot line with the time travel and the five year time skip though. I was not expecting that at all. thoroughly enjoyed it though, cause I had no expectations on what was going to happen. They kept dead/present! gamora dead but replaced her with past! gamora which im cool with i want more sisterly bonding with her and nebula and i can’t wait to see her and quill interact again. no bringing nat back, which i would’ve felt cheap if they had tried. like she sacrificed herself so clint could be with his family. if they could’ve just brought back whoever had died, it takes the weight away from the decision and cheapens her death. same with tony’s. i hate it so fucking much but the symbolism and the poetics ending of him anwsering thanos’s “I am inevitable” at the end of the film (which past-in-the-present him parroted from past present him the beginning of the film) with “I am Iron man” from the first film I just.... fucking died and ascended. my body left my soul... I lovedit. And the parallels with peter and him and peter died last time, tony died this time. Im not crying, you are. and yeah..
I hated it so much. But they did it really well. and pepper told him he could rest now.
Basically. It was a great movie. was it perfect? no. but what movie is? This movie was great and you can fight me on it thank you and good night <3

My lovely,
God I had such a bad day today too, let’s revel in it together ❤️.
I can’t even explain, like, right when I think I get over things I just break down over one thing and it rolls and snowballs over lol. Ontop of that my dad is just such a character like the most cliche asshole rich-and-thinks-throwing-money-at-things-will-eradicate-everything-but-still-complains-about-everything-I-do-absentee types. He’s so disinterested in my life or anything I do or any of my achievements and is so rude to me for literally no reason. Like he hangs up on me all the time whenever somethings not going his way (the rarity when he actually talks to me). And I literally turned 19 this year and he hasn’t changed character or developed as a genuine human being since I was born (honestly I know he didn’t even want another kid so it’s such a gr8 feeling just knowing that as a foundation before I was born). I put all my effort into school to hopefully get as far as I can from him (like general vicinity wise since my parents r divorced and live in diff areas) and just be successful without having to depend on him for anything. Sorry for the random trauma dump, I just literally keep everything in my head all day until I feel like I’m actually going to explode. I honestly hate feeling bad like all the time (sometimes it’s more evident than other times ofc but still it’s always just there).
Yayo og version is so gorgeous. Florida kilos has always been one of my favorites I just like I don’t really like Florida bc the humidity is so intense but that song makes me want to book a flight lol. And I’m too much of a pussy to do coke so I wouldn’t but that doesn’t stop me from fantasizing ab doing it w dilf Pete <333!!
On another note, I’m proud of you for finishing your exam!! I’m sure you did very well, now you can reward yourself for all the hard work you put in to studying etc. Hang in there! Love you.
-🍿
never apologise for the dump honey. its what im here for. i hear you, and i care so much. i want to apologise from the bottom of my heart about your father. i know exactly what you mean, bc mine is kinda the same way. it sucks more than anything, just wanting his validation.
please know i am so proud of you and i love you. i also know what you mean about the sadness, or yucky feeling always being there. sometimes i wanna shake myself silly i hate it so much. but we just gotta be mindful, accept it, acknowledge it and cope with it in a healthy way. we are strong, and we are independent. we spread love, and we get love back from the people we love the most (aka you and i!)
florida heat makes me die. my family likes to go to disney ( we havent since covid) and i LOVE it dont get me wrong but bruh. i melted like those mickey ice cream bars. and now god knows i tried just turned on, so now im thinking about us taking a dip by the pool, with big sunhats and glasses. in like a flower garden, with willow trees over us, keeping us cool as we sip fancy drinks like champagne. honeymoon is my fav album, i just realised ive never said that on here lol. do i seem like a honeymoon gal? cause i am a huge honeymoon gal. that album aesthetic is literally MY aesthetic
thank you for the kind words about the exam! i love you. i really hope it went well. im currently at a 91, so if i fail, i wont fail the course (thank fucking god). i don't really have anyone to tell about it, but in my mind i like to think peter is proud of me for my chem work!!
