what are the rules at a nude figure drawing class, apparently I'll be attending one wednesday cause it's the only time I can meet up w my friend and her partner while its in town, and y'all. I have scribbled and at times I might have even doodled, but I don't draw and certainly haven't drawn a nude person before. and any drawing class would've been anxiety inducing for me, especially as a setting for meeting a new person who seems super cool and who I'd like to make a good impression on, but this is just gonna be another level of uncomfortable for me ngl. would it be rude to bring a coloring book and some shitty crayola colored pencils while the ppl around me actually do the drawing they're there to do.

god there's so much advice i COULD give but i really dont wanna end up writing a book here. so I guess I'll say this: however you divide the page you should be CONSISTENT with it, i literally just learned/internalized this but it's made comic paneling soo much easier. when you break that consistency it will be more impactful. hold up lemme grab some pages.

so i recently started making loose stitches a 4 tier comic. it's not the exact same for each page cuz i'm lazy but i think it's made legibility way better. before i think it was kinda uhhhhh a little all over the place. not BAD but a little difficult to tell where your eyes supposed to go sometimes. which isnt great for a commic.

the page on the left in particular has always bothered me cuz i always read the top panels incorrectly and it's like. fuck man what is the paneling here why is it in two columns ????? that's so hard to understand. but the page on the right can be more or less easily understood (by someone who knows how to read comics) even without panel borders because it's just a simple 4 panel square.

one thing my comic professor really stressed was that he didn't like weird paneling or weird borders. for the most part, a square is fine. AND HE'S RIGHT. weird paneling is fun and cool but should be used sparingly or with intention, cuz if you do it too much then like. how tf are ppl gonna read your comic.

that being said there are a lot of cool ways to cut up panels even if they're just squares hold on lemme grab some examples

so the panels here are all square but the image in the one at the bottom is almost like a mural. one thing i really like to using is a lot of heavy BLACK, what can i say silhouette's have my entire heart.

in my fable comic, I used a 3 tier system. it wasn't the same exact size across all pages but all pages had 3 tiers of paneling. that way i can be a little more flexible with the SIZE of the panels to emphasize the more important things, without it feeling like it's all over the place

meanwhile in my comic final i used a 4 tier system where each tier was nearly the same across every page, but you can collapse tiers together for establishing shots and big reveals so that they're more impactful. it's still fully within the grid system I set up so it doesn't feel like it's messing with shit either.

ok i just spent a lot of time rambling about this one particular concept and it's probably not even what you wanted to hear about :') i didnt even go into ratios or anythinggg guhhhh sowwy

other than all that i'd just say you gotta keep looking at what comic artists have written and take note of how they use space and cut things up. there's this book called How To Read Nancy and it has all these exercises for understanding the building blocks of nancy. for real the author is OBSESSIVE and goes through everything of a 3 panel nancy strip from body language to spot blacks to the minutia of the background. we used this book in my class and did some of the exercises in the back and i think it's really good at getting you to THINK about what you're drawing. and you can easily pirate it if you're broke.

also try to make sure things dont get stagnant on a page. zoom out if you're only doing close ups (i try to make sure every page of loose stitches has at least one full body shot even tho I'm lazy and wanna just do talking heads- talking heads arent interesting!!)

also, take advantage of the fact you're drawing a COMIC. you can do shit in comics that you can't do in other mediums, try to implement them when u can! ALSO PRACTICE. you're not gonna get better just by reading and watching. you gotta do it lol. ok ok that's enough and you didn't even ask for that stuff you asked about PANELING sfdasfsd byeee

im sure the normal scenes will grow on me, but for right now some of the character's neutral colors clash a bit with the background for me

Ok... lets go some things straight. For the past 3-4 years I have been facing thousands of allegations and have been attacked online and in person way to much. I'd like to say that I'm honestly getting tired of it and personally think It needs to stop... So lets get straight into this...

First off let me explain some of my back story. For several years I have been dealing with clinical depression and have been down a really dark path which lead me to go to a mental health hospital back in fifth grade. I got out after about 2 months of being there and was ok for a little while until about half way through 6th grade. I had been in a relationship for about a year when things happened and the relationship ended. I was in a really tight spot and battled with my emotions for the rest of the year. During the summer between 6th and 7th grade my family allowed to let a man move in with us that physically and mentally tormented me. This lasted for a while behind my parents back but every time I tried to say anything my parents didnt believe me. It continued to happen until one day the guy slipped up and did it right in front of my parents causing him to get kicked out... Then 7th grade hit... heh 7th grade. Back in 7th grade I came out as trans publicly. This lead to many problems and me being a huge target (I still am) through out the whole middle school. I tried my hardest to get around everything but this caused me to go down a really dark path which continued into 8th. 8th grade was the worst year there. I had been falsely accused of many things like pedophilia, being homophobic and transphobic and many other things. I was not only hacked that year but my whole survival server had been destroyed... I also lost a whole bunch of friends I thought I could trust that year. It brought back many trust issues and stuff like that. That year I was also physically attacked on numerous occasions including an incident in the restroom I would rather not get into... I had come out to my parents a few months before 8th and the only person who really shows any support is my mother which is very little. I was called many slurs everyday... towards the end of 8th grade my mother went through a surgery that almost killed her which would have made it so that Id live with only my stepfather. I love him yes but we dont get along very well and just being us would put a lot of weight on my shoulders. 8th grade was also the year that I suffered to the point where I started doing s/h... I was told that I was faking being scuicidal and that I should really just end it... I attempted ending it which left me in the hospital for about a week and a half... I came back to still be dealing with the same stuff. My never ending nightmare. After 8th grade graduation I spent the summer mainly gathering my thoughts and not streaming or uploading much. Most of my uploads were to tiktok which is where I know almost have 1k followers. Im now in my 9th grade year and shits getting worse. I have been having bad thoughts and they are starting to get really loud... I mainly stick around for the people that actually care and I have been living off the bare minimum to keep my body functional. I have been losing a lot more friends recently, most due to arguments and stabbing me in the back and a few from suicide... I have been struggling quite a bit and being a constant target isnt helping. I feel like I'm running out of space to breathe and a little to close to the edge of the blade. Im running of the few people who bring me joy. Normally on empty I shuffle through the day. At this point I've killed myself but no one knows that your not talking to me, your talking to a scarecrow. Now I live on a razors edge about to slip. And these things are whats got me close.

and again i dont like the general approach to all of this. i think they needed to start slower and build stuff up more over time . everything here with jack for example like... i would have preferred if we sat with lucy and lucy alone and we didnt keep cutting to kira . like let us build this up and have it be one long continuous thing and maybe hold out this reveal a little longer. this feels like its rushing. and again the strongest part of orphan black, to me, before was like the slow build of increasingly complex fucking dire situations and being able to layer that shit

addressing our main point of disagreement here: i don't think goromi is or was ever meant to be trans representation in the first place. she is majima's drag persona, and that doesn't necessarily mean that goromi is supposed to be or represent a trans woman... just like a lot of real life drag queens aren't necessarily representative of trans women or trans people in general. if anything i think the idea that "drag queen = trans woman" is extremely restrictive and doesn't fully represent the diversity of gender identity and expression that drag allows to explore.

i dont think rgg studios is perfect or even like. progressive or whatever. so im not putting any amount of stock in their intentions lmfao. i have more extended thoughts about the way they handle characters that are non-japanese or explicitly lgbt... but that's not what we're talking about rn so i won't get into it. just know you wont see me defend a large game studio about this sort of stuff.

this said i think it is meaningful that this is a character that is beloved, embraced and elevated by queer people beyond her (one-off?) canon representation. i think it's a really wonderful example of simply not caring about the creators' intentions and making something that is important enough to you that you want to see it in the world. making a character or persona that other people may interpret as a joke into a three-dimensional, interesting person who means something to you. isn't that the point of transformative works anyway? are people not allowed to reclaim anything?

i had written more thoughts on how the way queer culture exists and is represented in japan is wholly different than the way it exists and represented in america/western europe, and that doesn't let rgg or even japanese mainstream media off the hook but still requires a slightly different conversation to what's expected in western spaces. while i am certainly not an authority on it, as a japanese person i feel like i have a better grasp on this stuff than someone who isnt.

i also had more thoughts on the idea of "representation" and its co-opting by corporate language and consumerism and how it makes talking about media that much more difficult...

but those are entirely different conversations that i'd only want to have with someone i know is coming at me in good faith. and right now you're a kind of rude anonymous person who i already probably put too much effort answering to.

1st finding a good picture was sooo hard!!! (This one is pretty good but I wanted to see if I could get a better one, it's also the reason the random skeleton pic is there) IN FACT if he puts the skull to face him, it just looks like a mildly old style mic... ok so, shape wise is pretty interesting but nothing groundbreaking, the skull thing is sorta corny (idk why but I find it a bit funny, like pfft) on holdability, I feel like it most be sorta hard to hold bc, the like intriquete carving (??!?!?) On the mic, also the base is sooooo long you could very easyly stumble on it and make a fool out of yourself on stage.

Nothing super big, I like the red on the ribbons  brings good contrast, but i have to admit is pretty much just like jyutos. Nonetheless  (and on the holdability point part) it's very big!!! Allowing you to hold it nicely, (that's what brings the score up)

Ok so it might be pretty much just a mic with cute colors but I think it looks super cute!! The color combo is a classic and super sweet, the easyR written on barbie looking leter is totes sweet too (bet it has glitter and shit), and it really screams candy or baby toy which goes well with ramuda. My only complain is the bow, like it's cute but i dont like it that much. On holdability is solid, the only problem would be on the letters but its great.

Design wise a candle stick phone is very interesting!! It's relatively period accurate with (what I judged the era to be on) gentaros clothes and all that. The colors are pretty tame, and fit gentaros palete nicely. On holdability tho, it seems like a hassle but it's nothing too strong and it creates nice theatrics, I think. Solid mic.

Wow!! I love jakurais mic!!! Yeah, yeah, I know I know, it's relatively simple; it's a mic w wings, but NO!!! 1st I looove all the doctor motifs; the fact that it looks like that doctor staff thing, and the IV drop!!! TOTES COOL, I like how the snake (it seems to be more visible on the manga) is also the iv drop cord thing!!! 10/10 very interesting. On holdability.... not that good  you cant really hold the actual stick bc it's full of shit, the iv drop could get in the way; and it's very long so increasing tripping chances; also + jakurais hair it takes too much space.

Color of Magic spoilers a thoery

Ok. So. Id be lying if i didnt admit that this reread was started mainly bc I encountered Twoflower in Interesting Times and wanted more. So therefore it would be foolish of me to pretend that i am not reading the book with unfair foreknowledge of circumstances that at the time of writing Color of Magic were not even a glimmer in TPrat's eye. So while yes, i know there are inconsistencies in history and lore and that the author himself has admitted to these things with the shrug of someone who doesn't think his audience should be all that bothered as long as they are having fun, i have issue with Twoflower's behavior at the very end and a theory to help me reconcile it. Ok? Here we go.

So Twoflower admits at the edge that he would love to see the worlds in the stars. Not being able to makes him angry. He's a travel buff, i understand that. Him being wanderlusty at the stars is actually rather sweet. Its cute. He wants to see everything. This explains why hes interested in getting on the ship and voyaging... with a way to get back. The men intended for the trip we can assume were going to come back and report about the space below Atuin's tail, but that wasnt explained to our heroes. Twoflower flings himself into endless depths, knowing you can fall forever and land in other places and not get back to see your kids (heard from Tethys who actually suffered that fate and was sad about it) with a "mad" smile on his face.

Now at the point of the writing, he did not have a family, but taking the whole of discworld canon into account at this point in his /life/ he does. And he's not estranged from them or anything, all evidence points to them being pretty fond of each other.

I will accept of course that Twoflower will be Twoflower. He will absolutely leap at the chance to see new things without considering consequences, and if he'd been assured the ship was on a bungie or something and he'd be returned to discworld without trouble then I'd absolutely buy him launching that thing. But there was no such assurance... and not only that, Tethys was deus ex machina'd to Krull along with them, implying buly circumstance that the ship was leaving forever to maybe fond HIS world. I mean i dont know. If nothing else Tethys would be a reminder of what happens when you slip over the edge without a tether. As a final illustration i also want to dwell on that sudden snap of madness. Like the scenario could have been easily manufactured by having the ship on a lead or a return flight calculated on the wall in the prep room, but instead him going crazy was the way we justified this decision. Thats lame, ima say it right here. Twoflower went star crazy to manufacture a drama point for the break between books. Sure, whatever, story.

This is when my theory comes in. Theres no direct evidence of this being true but i can build a bit of a conspiracy about it. We know Fate and The Lady are playing dice over the lives of these adventurers, specifically over Rincewind. We know Fate is pissed about the outcomes and is now determined to kill both boys. So much so that he visits Death to make sure he is there (he isnt btw. He sends Scrapulous bc he knows its not going to work.) Immediately before the launch, The Lady reveals herself to be riding in Convenience Frog(tm) and says she's "visited upon" Twoflower a couple times without his knowing. This just means hes been lucky, which yes...yes he has. But if we also take this to mean that he's a pretty easy vessel for the gods to manipulate we can accept my theory.

At the moment of launch. The very second he gets that weird smile and starts babbling about stars and worlds. He is being puppeted by Fate. They've already escaped his other arrangements for their death (double sacrifice, wizards, arrows, spears, a once-in-a-lifetime magic storm) and are about to escape Krull entirely when Fate grits his teeth in fury, turns over a table and decides to just fling them into space. He reaches through the astral void and sticks a finger in the back of Twoflower's head, activating all those desires for stars and driving him mad for just long enough to do the deed. He wanted to anyway after all, the only thing holding him back was that pesky loyalty bit that tied him to this world and his loved ones (including Rincewind.) Forget himself and off he goes like a windup toy. Twoflower doesn't even realize its happened, but Rincewind can see it on his face just before being dragged after.

And thats my theory to justify what i feel like is an uncharacteristically cruel decision made by a generally kind but excitable man with two daughters waiting for him at home... but since its just a theory and there's no proof i can also go on record saying that was a real dick move by my beloved son and he will be sent to his room just as soon as he returns to the disc.

Actually I have. Not the best experience.

(Skip this one if you want to. It's veryyy long.WARNING, It's about to get serious) I actually sat through a good 50+ minutes talking with Monika.In that time, she tells me how every time I quit the game, she feels like she's "dying", and enters a "living Hell" full of static screaming, flashing and darkness, and despite the fact that she feels as if her mind is disjointed in this space, she's still aware enough to remember it all every time we come back. There's also the fact she's fully aware all of her "friends" are simply mindless programs lacking free-will whose sole purpose in existence is falling in love with the player.I quit and loaded up the game a few times, and she asks you multiple times to please not put her through that torment, but eventually just says she'll have to relent that you can't always have the game open.Then I kept going, and got Sayori to tell me how she's super appreciative that I took the time to get to know them all and help them with their problems (however little I actually did), and that they all loved me. Credits are rolling, and I notice that the CG's aren't being deleted, until the very ending where the entirety of the Main Menu is deleted.I fucking broke Monika's heart and she subjected herself to living in an eternal near-death hellish blackness, and still the last thing she does for me is sing me a song about how much she loves me and wishes I'd been able to love her back. Deleting her causes her pain, but she was still conscious of everything and in control of the game files. Quitting puts her in a near-death state filled with suffering.I know it's only an AR game and none of it's real, but I'm literally sitting here with tears in my eyes because no matter what you do, Monika is doomed to an existence of agony, and the last thing she believes is that we probably hated her.I can't handle that shit, man, I didn't need to know. The game broke me psychologically and left me traumatized for 3 days.Sayori's arc made me feel sick to my stomach and sad, Yuri's arc scared me, and Monika's arc broke my heart and made me sad again.What part of psychology makes depressing horror enjoyable? Why did I love and enjoy a game that hurts? Maybe because the characters are so real and I've grown attached to them? I don't know. Either way I love DDLC, the community, and the fan content, but I don't know why. I guess it's because the main grip of the game is the 4 girls themselves, you grow so attached to them that it feels like your losing close friends. Making characters in any video game likable is hard but this game is an example of it done right, adding along with the story makes DDLC truly an experience.( finally, im done. I need a rest rn before I have a mental breakdown)
