i have planned to write a pseudo-essay or some kind of detailed look at linebeck in phantom hourglass and how he can be interpreted as autistic but thats not going very well right now so here are some autistic linebeck headcanons

On the other hand, he doesn't mind eating the same thing repeatedly and is perfectly fine with blander foods, so handling food supplies for when he'll be overseas for a long time is easy for him.

He knows he's autistic, he's known for a pretty long time, and he has books on it; he also knows that Link is autistic, but doesn't say anything about it and instead waits until someone else tells him. This man falls asleep ANYWHERE...Where you'd find him mostly? Sleeping in the closet, in a crate, or anywhere that looks extremely uncomfortable to sleep. Hell, even Demoman doesn't know how he woke up there! But he just does and it became a daily everyday thing for Demoman and the other mercenaries.

AMAZING with Piano. Seriously, he has been learning how to play Piano since he was a wee lil lad. He mostly plays scottish piano songs though. But you could give him a song request and he'll try to play it if he's in the mood !!! :)

sum of my john marston autism headcanons yippee

went non verbal a lot as a kid (ive said before i imagine him communicating through acts of aggression, be it verbal or physical. he's a traumatized kid, so he just wants people to leave him be but can't quite say as much, so he just hisses and growls or swats and hits).

still struggles with going semi/non verbal as an adult but tends to isolate or turn to drinking in these instances.

genuinely cannot tell when someone is making fun of him a lot of the time.

even if he could, he wouldn't really care anyway.

whittles sticks as stimming.

has pretty effective pattern recognition and can frequently tell when things are going to go wrong

however ive also diagnosed him with co-morbid adhd so he's frequently dealing with choice/analysis' paralysis and despite seeing things going wrong, he cannot figure out how to circumvent that issue with all the variables at play and just allows the situation to blow up in his face.

also clearly struggles w volume control at times

avoidance procrastination. when things are overwhelming he ignores it and tries to stave off doing something about it. like taking responsibility for jack. (who also has autism of course)

never understands when is an appropriate time to joke or utilize sarcasm. (this is hardly a hc)

has always kept his hair shaggy bc he does not like the sensory experience of haircuts.

also has a sensory aversion to water and this made teaching him to swim impossible.

it also makes bathing him impossible.

leans a lot on alcohol to manage symptoms in his early adulthood

Steve will spend HOURS with you at book shops, and/or the library (where he’s in the kids’ section sitting on the ground with a bunch of toddlers around him while he reads to them).

Steve will bring you over every type of pencil, pen, marker etc he can find. He will literally spend all his money on getting you art supplies that you have to tell him not to. Time to share some Starry lore because I’ve got a cute scene in mind. I love to vocal stim, sounds, phrases, but particularly songs. I’ll hear a song that feels just right and I’ll sit and chew it for hours til my throat’s sore. Currently favorite is The Valentine in Starfield (Is it still a sea shanty if it’s in space?). The reason I bring this fun fact up is because I can just see myself sitting for hours stimming with boys over new songs. Especially if it’s any new pieces for the theater. While the scripts and lyrics are predesigned by Fazbear, there’s something unquestionably their’s in performance that make it worth repeating. Worth remembering. Humming through daily tasks. Parroting their tone, their voice. Another sign of their existence that’s more then the capacity to destroy, then just simple property… They do end up being slightly upset when the Glamrocks try to introduce their songs to stimming sessions. (Sun/Moon: “That’s my human bonding time :(“ Monty: “Get cooler song selections then Sock and Buskin.” Freddy: “Pls do not misuse google search privileges to make insults.”)

Back to BaL! Sometimes, for fun, all 3 purposefully mess with the cadence or pitch, either to make each other laugh or just to get creative or because it sounds nice, and they end up liking something and it's like "!!!!"

When they sing that version later, it feels like theirs -- like it's those moments spent together. Proof of their existence and how it affects the world around them positively. Reminders that they're loved, and they love (in a cosmic kind of way, but also it's a self insert so fuck it we BaLl (aaaay finally used the joke @lavenoon fgjdfklgjld).

Also yeee I can see them being really, ACTUALLY insulted when one of the animatronics, who doesn't know because those little sing-stimming sessions are private with Y/N, jokes about how those songs are lame and they should be singing some of theirs instead because they're catchier. Oof

Which, just now, made me realize that BaL Sun's anger runs cold, so he just goes totally silent, straightens up and get that intense stare. Maybe Moon's even the one who talks through the speaker to deflect and does that overly-sweet anger of like "Catchy, huh? Hopefully we don't catch those inflated egos of yours -- there's barely enough space for all of us and your big heads as it is! We'll come back later~!" to excuse themselves (and then prank them to hell and back of course! But there's no proof : )) ) (ALSO OH MY GOD SOCK AND BUSKIN THAT'S FUCKING GOLD. Back to the singing, I think that another thing that they do especially well is that they can sing at the same time, so even for solos they can add back vocals to each other, or play around with the pitch since they do-and-don't share a processor and can adapt in microseconds -- wait actually they can definitely sing rounds, too!!

Oh my god now I'm imagining them singing rounds with vastly different moods at the same time, perfectly calibrated so that both of them come out loud and clear and also enhance each other's -- lining up or losing one of their voices at just the right moment to be chilling. It's like you're getting the song and the reprise but both at once

Marc had reluctantly began to play hide and seek with Baby, just wanting to entertain them for a while, but now they've disappeared. Now, he's running around the flat, checking in any and every space where they might be.

"Why would they be in the toilet!?"

"I don't know Steven! How did they get in top of the fridge that one time?! Can you tell me that!?"

"Calm down, the-"

"Why would I calm down when I CAN'T FIND THEM, JAKE!?"

Marc starts stimming, starting to get overwhelmed as tears started to well in his eyes.

"W-Where are they? I-I can't,"

If Marc was in his right mind, he would of heard a giggle coming from above him. But he wasn't, so he didn't. Jake, however, heard this and sighed.

'They're gonna kill us one day,' Jake thought before forcefully pushing to the front. Ignoring his headache, he looks up and glared. There they were, in the rafters like a damn monkey staring straight down at him.

"Guppy, get down. Now,"

Not noticing his tone, they tilted there head. "Why, Papi?" Jake said nothing, staring back at them. "You made Papa overwhelmed looking for you. You had him worried when you didn't answer his calls. I need you to come back down, now." This made them frown, but comply.

"Didn't mean to, Papi. I was silly," As they were about to fall, Jake caught them with a sigh. "I know that, Guppy, but Papa didn't know that you were trying to be silly. He thought something happened to you."

Guppy said nothing, and avoided the sight of Jake in their peripheral all together, looking at Gus' tank. "Hey," Jake softly guided their head towards him, caressing their face when they look past him but attentive.

"It's okay to be silly, but just try to pay more attention, okay? That way, no one gets overwhelmed, okay?"

Guppy nods, but their breathing gets heavier. "'Kay, didn't mean... d-didn't," They whine as they harmfully stim, their hands hitting their head as their eyes squeeze shut. Jake felt a gentle poke in his head, and allowed it, causing Marc to front.

"Sh, baby. It's okay, everything's alright." They shake their head, hitting it harder. "Hey, stop that." Marc grabs their hands and guided to his chest instead. The first few hits land on his collarbones before they tried to mask it. "Stop that, baby. Stop. You're gonna hurt yourself. You can hit Papa, it's okay."

They hesitantly but reluctantly started hitting his chest as Marc squeezed with the pressure that they needed. Eventually, they claimed down as was being rocked as Marc hummed.

"You okay, baby?" Guppy sniffles and blinks, snuggling closer to Marc. "No more hiding seek for a while, huh?" They shake their head softly, and falls asleep.

They weren't going to play that game for a while. But that was fine by them.
