Pro Tips from a NaNo Coach: How to Write a Clean(ish) Fast Draft

NaNoWriMo can seem like a daunting task sometimes, for NaNo newbies and veterans alike. Fortunately, our NaNo Coaches are here to help guide you through November! Today, author Jesse Q. Sutanto is here to share her advice on how to set yourself up for noveling success:

Dear Nano-ers,

My first book took me three years to cobble together. During that time, I joined Absolute Write—a free writers forum which I completely love and recommend to all aspiring writers—and I made a friend who convinced me to try doing NaNoWriMo. I was completely unconvinced, but I am a people-pleaser and I can never say no, so I agreed to try it for my second novel.

My second novel took me less than a month to write. It was a complete mess, but it was also a revelation. Often, I felt myself falling into that writing Holy Grail—the hole which consumes you, makes you forget the rest of the world, and absorbs you completely in the world you are creating on paper. I loved the process deeply, and never looked back since. All of my subsequent books have since been written in a matter of months. 

And you know what? They were all a horrific mess. I did not learn how to do a clean and fast draft until my NINTH book, and I don’t think I would’ve ever learnt without the help of NaNoWriMo. So here are my tips on how to best tackle a sprint-a-thon like NaNo. 

1. Try to come up with a loose outline.

When I first started writing, I was a pure pantser. I had no idea what was going to happen before I sat down to write. This is a completely legit way of writing, but I have since learned that it is massively helpful to have an idea, even a vague one, of what you are trying to say with your book. What was really helpful for me was to sit down for just five minutes before writing each scene and try to envision what I wanted the scene to achieve. Once I had that in mind, the scene became much easier to write. 

2. Break down your writing time.

Ever heard of the Pomodoro technique? In order to hit 50,000 words a month, you need to write around 1,600 words a day. That is a heck of a lot of words to write! Break it down. Set 10 or 15-minute timers and use that to your advantage. Trust me, if you told me to sit down and write 1,600 words, I would be like, “Omg that’s too much!” But if you told me to just write for 15 minutes, that feels a lot more doable. 

3. Give yourself permission to write trash.

Before each writing session, I actually say out loud: “I am going to write trash.” And this gives me permission to write whatever comes to my mind without judgment. You can always edit later, but for now, focus on letting the words out on paper. 

4. Lean on others for support.

I made the mistake of thinking that writing is a lonely vocation. In fact, it is one of the most social things I could do. Social media, while a double-edged sword, has done so much for the writing community. I have found all of my close writer friends through social media, and I chat with them every day and consider them my close, lifelong friends. Don’t be afraid to reach out and make connections within the community. You are not alone.

summary: when a work trip brings you back home, you don't expect for anyone to await your return or remember you. but despite the time apart, taehyung still does - still looks at you the same way he used to five winters ago.

rid, im not joking when i say this is everything i want in a fanfic. like ex2l always gets me, and you legit mastered it with this one. something about right person wrong time just does it for me. that opening line was so simple but so so so beautiful:

"Love doesn't bloom during frigid winters."

and your ability to fully write in the pov of the character that you've crafted is nutty. like on the outside, it seems like a simple thing to do, but ik from experience that it's really not. like the way you perfectly represented oc's bleakness in the beginning through the word choices, that only shifts when taehyung is being discussed, is a1 storytelling. and same with him, like even when things are falling apart, the metaphor compares oc to a star, n that's how he sees her despite the circumstances. IM EMOTIONAL!!!

and idk dude i think i feel so strongly about this piece bc i relate to this oc sooo much. like the way ur desire to get out of ur current situation bleeds into every aspect of ur life n ruins relationships n u end up even worse than u started off in a lot of ways- NOT THIS FIC BEING A WHOLE HIT PIECE RID LMAO >:(

Jedi June Week 2

Prompt: Balance

A/N: To throw one more OC at you (I have *many*), this story features a legit Mandalorian, who has a little brother who will go on to be fairly famous in some circles. Warnings: None AO3

She slept with a rock. She tucked herself under a tree, back against the trunk, and pulled the rock out of her pocket. Then she folded her hands over her stomach, the rock nestled between. It was strange, but who was he to judge?

It was a smallish rock, no bigger than his mythosaur pendant, but from what he could see, it wasn’t carved or painted or etched, it was just a plain gray ellipse-shaped rock. But she didn’t seem to want to explain it, and he wasn’t intrusive enough to ask.

So Kylen Ydarra slept with a rock, and Zann Rau accepted that Jedi were strange.

He noticed, sometimes, when she was overwhelmed or scared or confused or exhausted, she would take the rock out of her pocket and let it rest in her open palm while she just… looked at it. She would take a few deep breaths, and then she would put it back in her pocket. He didn’t think the rock did anything, but Jedi were strange.

At least, Ydarra was a little strange.

“I’m curious,” Zann said as they made camp for the night, “what’s with the rock?”

“My master gave it to me.”

“Something to remind you of home? I thought Jedi weren’t supposed to have attachments like that?”

“We aren’t. I don’t.” Ky shook her head almost to herself as she sat back against a tree and pulled the rock from her pocket. She laid it in her open palm, then slid it to the end of her middle finger, the smooth surface sitting on the pad of the finger. “No, the rock is…” She took a deep breath and tilted her head. The rock stood on end, a perfect ellipse with one vertex on her finger and the other sticking up in the air. Slowly, it began to spin in place, never losing its perfect balance, never faltering.

“It helps me stay balanced.”

“Balanced?” He spoke quietly, almost afraid that he could topple the rock with any loud noises or sudden movements.

“Yeah.” Ky smiled at him. Still the rock revolved on its axis. “I have been told I’m excitable.”

He had to laugh. “Oh?”

“By more than one person.” She grinned again. “Anyway, my master gave me this rock before I left. He meditated with it so much that it holds a kind of… resonance with him. When I hold it, I can feel what he was feeling when he meditated. Calm strength waiting to be called into action.” She answered his question before he could voice it. Then she went on. “And it reminds me to trust in the Force, to not let my emotions—good or bad—get the better of me. I can feel them—I should feel them—but I must keep them in balance and not let them rule me.”

Zann nodded, but he wasn’t sure why. He didn’t understand well enough to nod along like he did.

“When I am tired, the rock reminds me to persevere. When I am scared, the rock reminds me to have courage. When I am frustrated, the rock reminds me to be patient.”

“Must be hard being a Jedi and remembering all that stuff.”

“Not usually. Most of the time we’re in the Temple surrounded by other Jedi, and we can encourage and help each other. But here—” a teasing smile flashed across her face, “—here I’m surrounded by Mandalorians, whose idea of ‘balance’ is a blaster on both hips. Your people don’t exactly help me keep an even emotional keel.”

“Hence the rock.”

“Hence the rock. In fairness, I had the rock before I knew just how annoying you would be.”

“Wow,” Zann snorted. “Thanks.”

The days were long and they fell asleep every night exhausted. As the weeks wore on, Ky pulled the rock from her pocket more and more often.

When Hardeen finally left, it was with one less spare bootlace. Zann doubted he would notice.

The days were long, but now there was something to do with his hands during the restless watches of the night.

“Here.” He passed her the leather cord, a careful harness on a loop.

Ky frowned as she took it.

“For your rock,” Zann added.

She smiled and reached into her pocket, then slid the rock into the little harness and tightened it. “Thank you.” She put the loop around her neck and let the rock slip inside her shirt, pressed against her chest next to the mythosaur.

Suddenly, Zann felt very self-conscious. He cleared his throat, uncrossed and recrossed his legs, and said, “I just thought—it might be easier—this way you can always feel it, you know, instead of having to dig it out of your pocket—it’s always—”

“Zann.” Ky’s voice was so soft, not like her usual commanding tone. He thought he might melt under the force of her smile, the light in her eyes. “It’s perfect. Thank you.”

He nodded awkwardly.

“And,” she went on, her smile growing, “I can feel the care you put into it. It holds your respect and friendship and gratitude. Not only is it perfect for my rock, but the necklace itself will help me find balance.”

He knew he was blushing. He cleared his throat again and said hurriedly, “Just promise you won’t tell any of my Mandalorian friends I’m helping you ‘find balance’ and ‘trust in the Force.’ They’d lose all respect for me.”

Ky laughed. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep your secret. Not every day you meet a Mandalorian who values an even emotional keel.”

HSR Spoilers

So far, I very much enjoy seeing the trio again and their dynamics since belebog. Oh boy, that was like over a year ago when our journey first started with March 7th and Dan Heng before we joined the Astral Express. ;w;

Entering the Luofu again during the busiest event, the Wardance Ceremony, is very welcoming since we get to reunite with old friends and meeting new ones. I do very much admire Yunli and Yanqing dynamic as being rivals, especially with their personalities and beliefs clashing greatly.

Can I say I very much love Grandpa Huaiyan and Dad Jing Yuan tired voice calling the kids name?

AlsoAlsoAlso two of the generals coming to the Luofu to ascertain Jing Yuan after the Abrosial Arbor event. I am very curious to how it will end up for JY.

FEIXIAO ENTRANCE INTERRUPTING THE KIDS FIGHT AAAA. What a Queen.

I do like the Feixiao-Jiaoqiu-Moze dynamic. It definitely highlights how comfortable they are around each other to voice their complaints. Also Moze breaking the mood by asking what's for dinner. HALPP.

Also meeting Lingsha for the first time and finding out she's also born on the Luofu. I don't have a clear judgement on her yet since she feels so...mysterious, especially with her beef with alot of things in the Luofu governments. ALSO LINGSHA VOUCHING FOR FEIXIAO TO GET HER CHECKED OUT BY BAILU AAAA.

I do love Lingsha strongarming Stokk to agreeing to an inspection. Like I legit forgot about this dude until I heard his voice and went: Ah yes, this karen-dude. I remember you barking like a dog. I legit enjoy making him squirm again. >:))))

When I did see Sushang in the Alchemy commission, I was hoping she talk to Dan Heng a bit too considering they did travel together briefly. :(((( But maybe later on they can get a chance to talk.

Also it was super funny how Huaiyan and Jing Yuan basically had the kids team up to be a mentor to March 7th and take her in as their apprentice. LOLOLOL. AND THE WAY DAN HENG AND THE TRAILBLAZER LOOKED AT HER WHEN THEY ASKED WHO WILL BE THE APPRENTICE. They just yeeted her right there without saying a word.

I do admire Yunli straightforward and simple personality. I might be a little peeved how she commented about Yanqing concerns whether or not he can be a good teacher or not. I did see it as Yunli taunting/motivating Yanqing to push himself, especially since they're rivals and working together. Not only that!!! They're kids!!! They say what's on their mind and are very impulsive!

I'm just a bit high-strung cause it's one thing to learn from the master. It's a totally different thing to teach the subject and make sure the student understands what is you're trying to teach them. It's not an easy job for sure!!! And I wouldn't want to be put in the role of a teacher/leader, because what makes sense for me won't make sense for them. So you have to try to work around that and find a way to help them understand the lessons!

So I understand Yanqing concerns whether or not he's good enough to be capable of teaching someone until Jing Yuan gives him another perspective on the topic and push him to at least try. ;w; Not only that, but's a change of pace for Yanqing too.

March 7th is super adorable in her new outfit, and her besties are cheering her on!!! AAAAA.

I also can't wait for Feixiao to join the generals cause not only it's interrogation time for Jing Yuan, but we get to see her thoughts/opinions on him.

ALSOALSOALSO FEIXIAO AND YUKONG MEETING. I figured it be Yukong when Feixiao said she'll meet an old friend but holy crap it was actually Yukong. The fanarts of them together do make sense too now. It was nice to see them relax and catch up as old friends, BUTTTT BUTTT BUTTT

Feixiao bringing updates about Tingyuan case, and I AM PRETTY SURE IT IS TINGYUAN. Because Yukong is still looking for any traces of Tingyuan since Phantylia used her as a disguise. ;w; They found her ship, but not the body yet and...Ruan Mei??? Ruan Mei??? RUAN MEI???

Ruan Mei I hope whatever you did to Tingyun it was more good than bad.

I pretty much stopped after getting March 7th new path. ;w; now big question...any recommended builds for her?? I saw a few people already have her built and ready to go.

I don't know how much more I have left for this quest. I haven't seen the Shackling Prison yet so I know I still have some ways to go.

A Fresh Start

Hi Folks,

For any of you who follow me and any of you who are just finding my page, hi and welcome! I'm Joan or, if you prefer, Indigo, and I'm an eclectic chaos witch from Southern California who's been practicing on and off for the past 6 years. I've been on a deity work journey for the past 2.5 years and have been reading tarot for 6 years. My practice has always been a bit chaotic and I've found a lot of meaning in pulling from different traditions to build my own spiritual path.

For those who follow me, you may have noticed that several of my old posts have vanished and that this is a repeat introduction. Well, you're right! I've had a few recent tower events in my spiritual practice and am currently working on rebuilding my practice in the aftermath. To keep it brief, I thought I had found a mentor who would help me discover and pursue my spiritual goals (high priestess-ship for example) and it turned out she was a scammer and made up a lot of what she told me. To be frank, it really fucked me up. She attached several egregores to me to leach off my energy and I'm still trying to figure out which deities I'm actually connected to and which were just egregores from that scammer. Long story short, I'm looking to start fresh with my path and wanted my page to become a place where I can document my journey to put everything back together.

I am grateful that my relationship with The Morrigan is intact and my connection with her is legit. While I still want to become her High Priestess, I will be taking a hiatus from my training to pick up the pieces. Thankfully, The Morrigan has always been caring and patient with me (and she is my spirit mother, thank the gods; this was confirmed for me recently by several separate trusted sources), and I feel her support in this decision. I still want to pursue this path later but for now, I need to heal. I lost a LOT of friends during this time as well (we were in a very active discord group and I was kicked out after kindly asking to step back from my training) and basically my whole spiritual community fell apart. So yeah, I definitely need to do some serious self-care and healing.

The silver lining to this is that I've noticed new growth and paths opening up to me. Kemetic deities have been reaching out and I've found that I actually have a deep connection with them! Set, Sekhmet, and Horus have been stepping forward with enthusiasm and I've had my first ever psychic conversations (with any deitiy) with them via trancework and meditation! I've also connected with my ascended master and several Archangels and working with these energies has felt like a breath of fresh air.

While the path forward is still unclear for me, and I have a LOT of things to parse through, I am optimistic that the future will hold many wonderful opportunities for growth and spiritual awakening. There's even a new potential godspousal relationship on the horizon which I will be keeping private while we court. Things are looking up but to get there, I need to clear away what doesn't serve me. "One fabulous kiss and we're good. I have a plan."

So far this week I've cleaned out all of the cabinets in my kitchen and our master bathroom, did some sadness shopping, attempted to clean out my car, and packed up my stupid fucking laptop. So. I guess it's time to get back to Good Omens (even though I've been playing Supernatural in the background just to have something...we'll get into that entire situation eventually).

Right, episode 3. Wherein we get more adorable interactions, a yellow Bentley, an absolutely clueless angel, more meddling, and laudanum. I love this one, if only for laudanum!Crowley. And the look on Crowley's face during the awning of a new age...but we're getting ahead of ourselves.

At the shop, Aziraphale is listening to the Buddy Holly record when he gets a knock at the door, opening it to a person appearing to be a police officer, but dressed completely in white. The 'police officer' tells him that because they are a police officer, they can monitor him without raising suspicion and Az is already on the uptake it appears, so when they ask if they can come in because it's loud outside and they can't hear anything, he lets them in. 

The entire scene with this 'police officer' is hilarious, Az offers a cup of tea and says that a human police officer would definitely accept it. Crowley shows up with a box of his plants that he's pulled from the Bentley asking why Aziraphale can't go by train, "you LOVE trains" he says, and then he just exclaims "who's THIS now" but he quickly figures it out as well. The two of them are so sweet about it, even if they're highly amused. Crowley sits on the arm of Aziraphale's chair (again, swoon, it's so natural) and the laugh he emits is so sweet, and they both just make little moon faces at the angel that's shown up before excusing themselves to another room. 

Aziraphale thinks this angel is going to figure out quickly that the lie he told about their extremely powerful miracle is untrue, and Crowley says they just need to get Nina and Maggie to have "one fabulous kiss" and they're done. 

The angel bursts in to interrupt them of course and Crowley asks if they're interested in humans being in love, especially Nina and Maggie over the road. The whole point of this interaction is that Crowley says that you can only tell if they're in love by waiting a few days because humans are weird and that's how it works (ya know, to buy them some time), and then he announces "don't hesitate to ask me if you have any other questions about love" and y'all. Aziraphale's reaction. Like, baby girl, you are thirsty. You legit looked him up and down and stuck out your lip and you did not look away. I see you.

Anyway, Aziraphale takes the Bentley and he heads off to Edinburgh to investigate his Clue, leaving poor Crowley behind. 

We're then flashed-back to an entry in Az's diary from 1827, wherein he and Crowley were in Edinburgh doing this and that. Crowley took Az to a statue he's found of Gabriel in a graveyard. They stumble upon a young girl trying to steal a fresh body from a grave, and Crowley puts on a hilarious Scottish accent, and offers to help her in her endeavor. Aziraphale is shocked by this of course, and he wants to stop her so he trails behind them whining about how wicked her actions are. 

They find out that she's doing it because she's living on the street with another woman, but Az still isn't moved. He says that people have opportunities to prove how good they are by resisting the temptation to do wicked things, and poor people have even more opportunities to do so. Crowley of course knows this is ridiculous, but black-and-white Aziraphale just says it's "ineffable". 

Back in the present, Az is bonding with the Bentley, talking to it about how they've come to an understanding. He's very proud of himself until Crowley comes blaring through the speakers to tell him he can feel when he drives the Bentley under the speed limit. He tells him to speed up, so he tries, but Az says it seems the car doesn't want to, and he grabs himself a little treat from the dash. Crowley is incensed, asking "was that a travel sweet?" This man knows what's going on, he can feel Az has done something to the car. And he has of course, the Bentley is now a beautiful shade of yellow (it's his favorite color because of, possibly, a certain demon's eyes?) but Crowley isn't having it. He says it must be changed back and Az whines "but it's pretty" so Crowley resorts to threatening to sell some books if he doesn't, these two know how to push each other's buttons clearly. 

Meanwhile in 1827, Aziraphale and Crowley follow the grave robber Elsbeth to her destination and clueless little Az is determined to ruin her mission. They're introduced to MISTER (he's a surgeon, not a doctor) Dalrymple and when they're let inside Az does a little miracle to ruin the corpse and he's so proud of himself. Elsbeth runs off because she can't get paid but Az wants to stop both supply and demand so Crowley stops time to convince the surgeon to let them stay and talk about his work. (The surgeon has started calling the angel and the demon 'doctor' which I love, so many Who easter eggs.)

However, it doesn't go to Aziraphale's plan - he learns that Dalrymple is just trying to save lives, he needs corpses to do so, he needs them to teach and to learn. He shows them a tumor he pulled from a 7 year old boy and Az is devastated to learn the boy died, he clutches the specimen to his chest, and things are shades of grey baby boy, not the perfect black and white you cling to. So he changes his mind and decides Elsbeth's actions are holy after all, and offers to help. Because now it's somehow good. 

Coming back to present-day Edinburgh, Az rolls up to the pub with the haunted jukebox and he's wearing a cute little getup, he's so pleased with himself. Boy is cosplaying at being a reporter and he thinks it's a fun little jaunt. He learns from the owner that Gabriel definitely had been there about a year ago, and that he was with someone else. He's giddy. I really feel the need to point out that Aziraphale is still under the impression that he's investigating a cute little mystery and there isn't really anything on the line at all. Which is honestly insanity. 

In the 1800's Crowley and Az go back and gather up Elsbeth's friend Wee Morag and off they go back to the graveyard, but things go wrong. A grave gun gets tripped and Wee Morag is shot, and they try to get the girl to safety in a nearby tomb, but she dies. And Elsbeth decides to just sell her body to get the money she desperately needs, that's what she'd want. 

She goes back and delivers the body, and gets less money than she'd expect, and she's angry. So she sees some laudanum on the counter and she nicks it, and then goes off to buy some wine to toast her friend. Crowley and Az show up back at the tomb to join her, and things start to go off the rails. 

They both see the laudanum of course, and as she's explaining that she's going to drink the wine and then the laudanum so she can join her friend in the afterlife, Crowley grabs it and downs it. She's horrified, says he's going to die and Crowley exclaims "constitution of an ox" (oh really? An ox? Didn't we just see Aziraphale devour an ox......)

I can't decide what my favorite part of laudanum!Crowley is. He starts rambling about no more dying, "No dying! no more dying! it's just....wrong!" He sings the Scottish national anthem(?). He makes goat noises (all the Job references), he unexpectedly shrinks. I love him yelling "I'm small aren't I?" and the faces and the growling and the dance he does to return himself to a normal size, but just kidding, not a normal size, he bursts through the ceiling of the tomb. 

He tells Elsbeth "you've sinned very bigly!" (and I'm totally going to use that) he says "Trying to kill yourself...I mean....it's NOT ON!" He asks the angel how much money he's got - 90 guineas. He tells Elsbeth she can atone by taking the money, buying a farm, and being good, properly good ("gi'er the money, angel!") And so, she promises she will and runs off. 

Afterward Crowley yells "Laudanum, oooh wee! But Aziraphale is worried that hell must have noticed, and Crowley says if they had he'd already be....and then he's sucked down, and away. In his diary, Az says he doesn't see Crowley for a long time after that. 

(And if we think about the timeline, we know that in the 1860's Crowley appears again, and he's now asking for holy water. What happened to that poor baby?)

Meanwhile, Aziraphale calls the bookshop after he finds himself staring at Gabriel's Edinburgh statue to catch Crowley up, who answers the phone by saying "Fell's bookshop - we probably don't have what you want, and we wouldn't sell it to you if we did" because he's very good at protecting his angel's interests. More swooning. Az is excited because Gabriel was with someone, but they're not really listening to each other as usual and Crowley hangs up because he sees an opportunity to enact his Nina/Maggie plan. 

Which doesn't work, of course. He gets the rain going, he gets them under the awning, and they are having a heart to heart. Crowley's smile watching the two of them is so pure, he's convinced this is all it's going to take but shit does not work like that, he and Aziraphale are so dense, and instead of vavooming, the awning breaks and the girls get drenched. 

And then Shax shows up. Crowley goes outside to find out what she wants and she insists that Beelzebub knows that Aziraphale is hiding Gabriel in the bookshop. He insists that he isn't, and we learn that Shax can't cross the bookshop's threshold and Crowley tries to keep his cool, but Shax says that hell is going to declare war - not on him, mind, but on Aziraphale. 

Ya boy is once again in panic mode, he flys at Gabriel and starts threatening him over harm coming to Aziraphale but then he deflates just as quickly, saying "It doesn't matter. It's too late for that now, isn't it? It's always too late."

Y'all. Crowley knows they're living in an extremely dangerous situation and Aziraphale is just off dressing up and having fun and enjoying himself. I understand wanting to protect Az however possible, I do, but he's just making it worse. They're both just making it worse...

so certain groups of people insist taylor was sad in the back half of lover era. similar insistences during folklore. but if you follow that thread, i mean, she lost her masters, and if you believe that she had plans to come out then that got put on hold, well then i assume that would have also been a bummer, her mom’s health has been a concern, then the pandemic hit which was scary, and she had to cancel her tour.. there was plenty to be sad about that doesn’t require her to have like, broken up with someone.

also speaking from a more meta angle, there were things about the way these interpretations were spread at the time and who they were spread by that don’t do the interpretations any favor imo. but i digress. for me there have been things not just in her music but also in what i see on social media, or in what taylor and karlie wear and what taylor makes as merch, that have presented continued safe harbor for my belief in the strength of their bond.

in terms of the idea that she keeps singing about heartbreak and loss, i don’t think it’s so clear cut.

for one, folklore and evermore include fiction and it can be said that some songs encompass a collection of old feelings from her youth. some can potentially be attributed to other people entirely (happiness being about abigail’s divorce for example)

for another, there’s been this idea that taylor and karlie had to have a love blackout / lock down since the 2016 election, and the death of their public relationship (not being seen in public) and her lamenting that is imo a legit interpretation for several songs now. and in general i think there would be a lot of pain or sadness in their relationship, due to the specific nature of their situation.

it’s like with the song hoax, where she is singing “don’t want no other shade of blue but you, no other sadness in the world would do” — that’s describing a complicated relationship with depth. and honestly it blows my mind how people just assume it’s all about joe when he seems to have none of this calamity she sings about.

also i have seen several songs attributed to heartbreak that i just would not attribute to heartbreak. idk i guess i just think about their relationship in terms of the number of years they’ve potentially been together and the kinds of milestones or conflicts that accompany that long of a relationship. i think about how much she seemed to be relating to aaron in her interviews with him in LPSS for example. and when you look at it that way, i really feel that it all tracks.

Best New Anime of 2022

so i had cancer this year! which apparently means i actually watched enough new anime last year to do a top ten list? so i guess this is my first anime top ten! pretty neat! i’m only gonna cover shows that premiered this year because it would be hard not to put stuff like Mob Psycho and JoJo on here and there was so much great new stuff that i wanna focus on. here goes!

10: Love Flops: this show… this fuckin’ show y’all. the first few episodes are…. A Lot. some of the horniest anime bullshit i’ve seen. it takes over half the season to really show its hand. and look, i really don’t want to spoil anything, because it has some truly great reveals, but goddamn is it an incredible fucking hand. a show that is both absolutely demented and very touching

9: Aharen-san wa Hakarenai: translates to Aharen is Incomprehensible. just a really cute, chill little romcom about a couple of goofballs and their even goofier friends. was a very nice thing to look forward to during a pretty hard summer!

8: Urusei Yatsura: i originally had Spy x Family here, but y’know what? fuck that. Lum’s Back Bay Beeee and she looks better than ever. David Productions outdid themselves here

7: Bocchi the Rock: the most i've related to a character in ages. great music, great animation, great pals

6: Chainsaw Man: not typically my vibe, but it's so good i can't help but appreciate it anyway. i have trouble with “misery parade” stuff but Chainsaw Man takes it so far that it becomes hilarious. i really love its exploration of intimacy and control, very nuanced and looks at a lot of different aspects of it. Power and Denji’s friendship is super refreshing, Makima is scary as hell, and Himeno is… unfortunately very hot. don’t @ me

5: Ya Boi Kongming: time travel is always my jam, and this is one of the best. it subverts the whole "the character is dumb bc they're from the past" thing by making the MC a master strategist from the Three Kingdoms period. there's initial confusion, but he picks up quick, and it's more about him using his stratagems to help a girl become a famous singer. it also has one of the best OPs of the year too

4: Birdie Wing: it's the Lesbian Mafia Golf anime, what do you want from me

3: Akiba Maid War: legit one of the most buckwild first episodes ever put to film. absolutely has to be seen to be believed. all i'll say is that the title is literal, and it’s majestic. #1 fuckup gang of 2022

2: My Dress-Up Darling: immaculately crafted romcom, incredible characters. more or less a perfect show, would have been my top spot if the next one hadn't come to eat its lunch a few months later. the scene on the train after the con is one of my favorite scenes in anime period

1: Call of the Night: feels like a show made specifically for me. it's a romcom, but it's moody and there's philosophical shit and vampire fights? sign me the fuck up. then there’s Anko Uguisu, who is a fucking Problem 🥵 and to top it all off, it's the most gorgeous show i’ve seen in a long time. something like Demon Slayer has really fluid action sequences with amazing effects, but it looks pretty standard otherwise. but the composition and color and detail of every shot is so carefully considered in Call of the Night, it’s really something special. truly, absolutely cannot wait for season 2. i picked up the manga and am around chapter 100 now, it’s going in some really fascinating directions

and that’s my list! i was going to make this an honorable mentions section but ended up just mentioning basically everything else new i watched lol. so here’s that:

Ranking of Kings is a show i really loved but it just didn’t quite make the cut. the ending felt a little rushed and it started getting a bit predictable, but still great if you need a good cry

Shikimori Isn’t Just a Cutie was sweet and fun but felt a little thin

Spy x Family is really well-made and totally adorable but i have to take it in small doses for some reason

Reincarnated as a Sword i had no real issues with and i’m looking forward to season 2, but it just wasn’t a top 10

Eminence in Shadow: love the farce, fuckin’ hate the MC. still not sure where i come down on it tbh

Yakuza’s Guide to Babysitting: liked it, didn’t watch enough of it

Do It Yourself! is really cute but it never quite hits the highs of something like Laid Back Camp. still worthwhile if you like that kind of thing tho

Lycoris Recoil: i really enjoyed it while i was watching it, but i keep forgetting it exists tbh

and as far as returning stuff goes Mob had such a great ending, i’ve really enjoyed the Stone Ocean adaptation, i just got into Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun this year and i’m having a great time with it, reminds me so much of that 00’s Soul Eater/HxH/toonami-type shonen but much less fight focused. and of course, Uzaki-chan was fucking incredible, as expected

Jeff Lerners ENTRE Institute is not a scam. But, Jeff Lerner has been involved in some shady businesses. Moreover, he is a master internet marketer, and ENTRE Institute is full of upsells. So, my final Jeff Lerner review is skeptical; there are other coaches I would go to first if I hadn't found local lead generation.

With local lead generation, you don't promote a physical product or course. You don't need to create mountains of content to get a few affiliate clicks. Rather, you create and rank a single website to start, and that website starts generating leads that you sell to small businesses. Your leads do the talking, as you provide sample leads to potential clients. You also remain in complete control- there's no affiliate program guiding your actions. Then, once that site is ranked, you can create another and another- as many as you want, and each is its own individual income stream.

Ok but in the Ahsoka leaves the order arc… Ahsoka was in the wrong.

Ahsoka is my favorite character but like, she was wrong. She was wrong to escape and she was wrong to run around and try to solve this by herself and the reason she did it is probably because Anakin taught her some bad lessons.

Honestly I feel like the whole fandom suffers from Main Character Bias in this arc like. If it were Barriss seen doing all that (video footage of her seemingly force choking that woman, escaping prison and running into the undercity and being found next to a shit ton of evidence) no one would blink at the order expelling her in order to be judged by the courts. The only issue people have is that she’s a main character and we like her and know she didn’t do it.

Like the only real issue I had with it is that if Ahsoka had done it she would have done it Better than this. And the council should know that. Ahsoka wouldn’t be this stupid if she had actually blown up the temple. But like. What is the council supposed to think?

Everyone’s like “they knew ahsoka they should have known she couldn’t do that” but like they also knew Barriss. They also knew Krell. They knew it had to be a jedi and they trusted every jedi. And they didn’t even find her guilty. They just said you have to face trial without us. And then when she was found innocent at the trial they welcomed her back.

Mace was kinda an ass saying it could all be looked at as some big test like :/ yikes ok. But that’s still only one line and it’s a stupid ass line so I’ve elected to ignore it.

However, I do think Ahsoka was right to leave. Not because she would do better as a “grey Jedi” (not a thing, completely fandom made). Or that the Jedi were corrupt and whatever. But because she realized she couldn’t understand what being a Jedi was during war time which is valid.

Like, she was angry at the council. I believe that anger was not justified but hey sometimes you just get angry. She was wronged, and even though it was, at least partially, due to her own actions, she’s still allowed to be angry about it. And she obviously just couldn’t figure out how to let go of it.

So what were her options? Go back to the order and pretend she’s not angry? No! That’s why Anakin fell you can’t just shove your emotions down. Or she could leave and figure herself out. Go back after the war was over and try to learn what being a Jedi actually is during peace time. She legit gave up power because her emotions were getting the better of her and I think that makes her the best example of someone who uses the light side of the force.

I think a lot of her contradictions were from having Anakin as a master. Anakin loved her, and was good to her, but he did not understanding the emotional side of being a Jedi. And therefore couldn’t quite teach it to Ahsoka.

Remember how in the Mortis arc Ashoka’s older self tells her “you may never see your future if you remain his student” and “there are seeds of the dark side in you planted by your master” like yes exactly. Ahsoka handled this whole “being framed” thing very badly. Because she assumed this is how Anakin would have done it. She had assumed the key card had been left by Anakin. And afterwards she was obviously really, really angry. Which… she also got from Anakin. So she took her older self’s advice and she LEFT.

Like damn what a good character arc for her. Understanding her own flaws and weaknesses and realizing she needs to step away? Like that’s a Good. Thing. Hot damn.

And we see bits and pieces of how the council respects her for her decision. Obi-Wan let’s her take half the 501st to Mandalore even though there’s literally been an attack on coruscant. Yoda and Mace welcome her into a Jedi war meeting and ask her if she’s planning on rejoining. They don’t tell her everything but damn they probably wouldn’t have anyway she was just a padawan and this is kinda big shit.

I just… love Ashoka’s arc ok? I love it. The fact that she was definitely planning to go back, too? So good. And I get annoyed that people take all of Ashoka’s agency away, let her go guilt free “she did nothing wrong the council was bad owo” and therefore take a lot of the self discovery aspects out of her leaving the order. I think it hurts Ashoka’s character more than it hurts the council.

And like, I know filoni wrote this as a “the jedi council is wrong” like whenever he talks about it but fuck that. Yeah they were wrong, I guess, in the sense that Ahsoka wasn’t guilty but I feel like we’re once again blaming the council for not knowing something it was literally impossible for them to know. Like Obi-Wan says in season seven, yeah the council isn’t always right. They’re not gods. Imagine how angry people would be if they had caught Barriss in the beginning and decided to stand by her despite evidence against her? Imagine if they did that with Krell? They can’t win.

Anyway, please respect all of Ahsoka’s arc of making mistakes and learning and growing from them because it’s amazing and so is she. Leave the council alone they’ve done nothing to you. Ok thanks.

anyway, full Angst train up ahead but there are moments of Fluff too. There are mentions of blood and violence if those are not your thing- dont worry guys, this goes with a happy ending cos you and Xiao deserve one~ on a final note- non canon compliant and suuuuuuper long- like- legit this is very long

The Yaksha sighs.

He’s here again. His mind and heart has returned his being into this crimson world his demons have created within him.

He feels it. He feels the corruption binding him tighter again for every death he brings by his tainted hands.

He looks at his bindings. And ever so slowly, the red and black coiling around his person will eventually reach his heart.

One day, he thinks, all this crimson and black in this world will swallow him whole and he will see the light no more.

Xiao sighs again.

This is his karmic debt.

The moment you stepped foot within Wangshu Inn, you knew he was in his prison again. After giving a quick greeting to the inn keeper, you hastily went to Xiao’s room. The closer you got, the heavier the atmosphere became.

You reached his door and knocked softly. As expected, no reply as he continues to struggle to take back his control over himself. Without hesitation, you stepped in. To anyone else, they would have instantly met his spear at their throats, but with you, this doesn’t happen. Instead, you see him crouched on the wooden floor with a hand on his chest. His knuckles were white and his breathing was ragged. His amber eyes- lost. Observing his form, yes… his moments of corruption are becoming progressively worse.

With swift steps of familiarity to this routine, you went to him and grasped his shoulders.

“Xiao, it’s me…” You whispered with clarity. And oh- how your voice brought a wave of comfort to his soul.

“N-name…” His voice cracked, but him calling to you is always a good sign.

You gave him a small smile and proceeded to grasp his hands together with yours. After which, you then leaned your forehead to his to chant your prayers. As your prayers progressed, slowly but surely, the corruption begins to fade along with the black mist that covered him. However, you took note how this ritual took longer than the last.

Once everything is done, Xiao just slumped onto your shoulders, still breathing deeply. “How are you feeling?” It was a useless question you asked every time this happens, but you always, always, have to make sure.

Usually, he would mutter a small ‘fine,’ but now- words seemed to have left his mind and all he could muster was an almost-unnoticeable shrug.

Truth be told- his response disheartened you, but you did not show it. Instead, you opted to simply encase him in your arms and caress his hair. After all, these are just one of the few, rare moments Xiao would leave himself into your care. Xiao is aware, himself, that his state has been becoming worse and worse. And you both know, that a day would come when he would just attack anyone- friend or foe- without a trace of hesitation. So, just this time- he speaks his feelings.

“Name?”

You answered immediately with a questioning hum.

“What would you do… when I finally lose control over myself?”

It was very subtle, but he felt how your hand stopped caressing his hair for a second, then proceeded to the previous task at hand again. In all honestly, you can never find yourself having an answer to that question. “And why would I ever let that happen to you?” You questioned back, fully aware that you were dodging his question.

Silence surrounded the two of you, unsure on what to do with the sudden heavier atmosphere.

Not wanting to face the cruelty of the world yet, Xiao simply buried himself on the crook of your neck even more. And despite the ghostly sensation of his lips on your skin, you could feel him mouth the words ‘I love you.’

“As long as I’m here,” you whispered, “nothing can hurt you.” And that was the most beautiful lie that the Yaksha has heard, but he was willing to believe all the same.

When word about Fatui diplomats starting a bank reached you, there was a nagging feeling in your head that trouble would bring itself present anytime soon. It was like an itch that wouldn’t get away. And the only way to have that itch gone is to scratch it.

“You are absolutely a fool.” Xiao stated darkly with crossed arms, for once disagreeing with the plans of his master.

“We can never know what their intentions are unless we let them start their bank, no?” Zhongli said as he gazed at the marsh spread beneath him.

The Yaksha only scoffed but said no more.

Building up your courage, you deemed it was your turn to voice out your thoughts, “Um… Rex Lapis, I see your point, but wouldn’t it be best to resolve the problem before it persists into something larger? We all know- All of Teyvat knows, that the Fatui are not to be trusted.”

Your archon offered you a kind smile, “I understand your worries, Name. However, as of the moment, they have not presented themselves as such. If they truly are our enemies, then it would be beneficial for us to know their intentions.”

You frowned deeply at his statement. Seeing you do so, somehow, your archon immediately identified your main concern.

“Is this about the Tianquan assigning you to be her representative for the Fatui?”

The moment those words left his mouth, a growl tore from Xiao’s throat, but he held his tongue.

“Did Ganyu tell you?”

The Archon nodded and you sighed.

“I volunteered, actually.”

And at that point, Xiao vanished into thin hair, but you could still his sense his presence around.

“May I know why?” Zhongli questioned gently.

For a moment, you struggled for words. You didn’t know how to describe this ‘itch’ to him. “At first, it was supposed to be Ganyu, since in the Tianquan’s eyes- Ganyu is an adeptus and she does not know that I am, too. Perhaps she didn’t want to put me in harm’s way, a ‘visionless human’ at the side of a harbinger. After some convincing to Ningguang for my volunteering, I spoke to Ganyu next.

“The adepti are divine beings that walk here in Liyue. I had this feeling that putting a divine next to a power-hungry harbinger would become an issue. I told Ganyu that, since I looked ‘harmless’ and ‘ordinary,’ the harbinger’s interest about the divine would never surface.”

A stretch of silence wrapped around them as Zhongli pondered over your words. “Perhaps, are you also planning to dig out the truth of their arrival?”

You nodded, “I knew you would allow them to stay, so I just took it upon myself to unfurl their secrets.”

“Hmmm… I grant you permission on doing this. However, should trouble arise, do not hesitate to tell us.”

The glare pointed at you was strong. Even without him saying a single word, you could hear his phantom voice in your head speak with such coldness, What are you thinking?

You simply gave him a reassuring smile, “I’ll be fine, Xiao. I may be a human in mortal eyes, but please do remember that I am also an adeptus, no matter how weak I am.”

Xiao releases a huff, but still sits by your side at the floor of the balcony, letting the moon kiss his skin. “You’re not weak.” He mumbled as he snaked his hand to yours.

To him, you will never be weak. In fact, you were the strongest being he has ever laid his eyes on. Not physically, no. It was you mental and emotional fortitude. Back during the Archon War, he always admired how you kept your head held up high no matter the suffering you have experienced. No matter how much death surrounded you, you still fought. And that strength made you a survivor. During the war, you never failed to help the wounded. Even when someone dies under your care, you held strong for the departed and for those who are left behind. You were a pillar of hope.

He brings your hand to his lips and kisses every knuckle “… Just be careful. If ever you are in trouble do not-“

“Hesitate to call your name.” You finished, beaming at his words.

As someone who used to be a healer and a doctor, you were quite familiar with several mild skin diseases that mortals can suffer from.

If there is an itch, you do not scratch it- for you will only aggravate the area even more.

Now that you’re working alongside the Fatui as the Tianquan’s representative, the itch you kept feeling was only irritated more. Especially whenever you spoke with the Harbinger who goes by the name Childe. And since your work requires you to cooperate with him, you also don’t miss the chance to discover what he hides, should the opportunity presents itself.

Childe… his azure eyes certainly have their… charm to those unaware. However, you knew better. You know he’s capable of drowning you just by his eyes. While he may be a cheerful man, his eyes lack the lustre of joy. The eyes are the windows of the soul, yes? If so, all you see is an unending ocean that you do not want to swim in. The surface may be calm, but the deep is relentless. However, duty bound you are- deep within the ocean, you shall find the secrets the Fatui hides.

Again, another scratch to the itch, but it only irritates you more.

The news of Rex Lapis’s death became the catalyst of you confronting the Harbinger. From Yujeng Terrace all the way to Northland Bank, you ran (with Ningguang’s permission of course). Before you can even open the door to his office, something caught your eye.

It’s faint, but you’re an adeptus. You sensed elemental traces, just smack bang at the middle of the door. You carefully scrutinized the tracings, and fortunately you knew Snezhnayan script. And what you read only made your heart sink.

It’s ready.

With the adeptal arts, you managed to uncover the origins of these elemental tracings.

Scratch.

Without hesitation, you followed these tracings until it led you into some ruins.

Scratch.

Following the tracings further, you find yourself in a dimly lit room. Wary, you summoned your weapon imbued with your element.

Scratch.

Searching the room, you came across several antique boxes. You opened them.

Scratch.

What you saw were familiar. Too familiar. Dimming the room more with your element, you find more Sigils of Permission hanging on the walls and on the ceilings. The energy within them were faint, but with enough numbers, it’s enough to kill a-

“Well, well well, I thought you’d be there mourning for your Archon. But here you are, snooping around someone else’s research material.”

The sound of his voice made you sharply turn your head to him, your stance now more offensive. “What are you planning?” You bit coldly.

The Harbinger hummed a small tune, “Nothing much… But! If you’re really curious, I guess I could tell you.” He hummed some more but you knew he’s not finished. Once he finished his tune, he grinned to you menacingly and the depths in his eyes became even deeper and darker, “After all, I won’t let you leave this place with you knowing my secret~”

There was this one time, Xiao struggled against himself so much, he scratched himself red so that he could anchor himself back to the real world. You remembered how much you cried as he slept in your arms. You never wanted to see him do that again. Seeing him hurt himself also hurt you, too. It was like a stab in the heart, then a twist, and twist some more. A slap in the reality that you might lose him one day.

As he slept, you solemnly observed the wounds he sustained himself to. They were angry red, just like blood.

Now, you, yourself scratched that itch in your head too much into a wound for blood to seep through. You scratched too much and now you have to bleed from it.

You were slipping in and out of consciousness. Sleep was tempting you more and more but you know you have to wake up. You were aware that this is going on for days.

Everything hurts. You remembered how his blades, imbued with the Sigils, weakened you thoroughly. Every slash he brought to your body just drained the energy away from you. But still you had to do something.

He wanted an adeptus- he wanted an adeptus in order for the Sigils to grow stronger both in number and in power.

Now here you are, bound by chains and suspended at the middle of this empty room. These chains were adorned by talismans that drained away your energy. You were bleeding from your wounds of your previous battle.

Drip. Drip. Drip goes the blood and pools on the ground underneath you. The ground, you barely noticed, was lined by Liyuean script which enacts the ritual of the Sigils draining your divine power from your blood.

To the eyes of a sadist- you were a picture perfect in a canvas. A dark room lined by the damned Sigils, glowing an eerie gold. Then there's you with your bloodied clothes and chains. The red pool underneath was casting a red glow on your way, giving you a red shade to your pale skin.

Everything hurts-

And everything was driving you mad.

You can also feel the Overlord of the Vortex feed from your energy through the Sigils. You sensed his lust for power and revenge. You felt his anger and the corruption within him. You felt his hatred and his want to bring death. For days that felt like years, you’ve been battling against that very same god in your head. This battle was not something you shall not lose to and failure is not an option. If you fail here, then Liyue will fall. 

This god- he was driving you mad slowly.

If ever you are in trouble, do not hesitate to call my-

You shut the thought from your head. You are not going to call him. You will not speak of him. You will not think of him. You will not call him. Not to this place where his corruption will grow. No. You Will Not Call Him.

If it means that me not calling you will keep you safe from the corrupted remnant of a god- so be it.

However, no matter how much you denied yourself to call his name, no matter how much your heart yearns to be with him- the wind does not ignore the pained sob that left your lips.

Ever since the news of Rex Lapis's death and the visit of the Traveler with a Sigil in his hand- the corruption within him just bloomed into something feral.

The Sigil- there was something wrong about it but Xiao doesn't know what is it that is wrong. Then there's you- where are you? Surely with the news of their Archon's death- it would send you to bring forth a meeting for the adepti to talk this over. But now- for days- you remain not by his side.

With you missing- the demons inside him are slowly taking control over him, taking advantage of his vulnerability for you. For each passing day, it was slow torture for him- The worry bubbling in him was consuming him. He glared at the Sigil between his fingers and not failing to notice how his dark aura covers him once more. 

“Traveler,” Xiao called sharply, “What is it you intend to do next?” 

To any mere mortal, the look his eyes held were enough to strike fear, but the Traveler stealed themselves- meeting the adeptus’s gaze with an equally serious calm. “I have my suspicions on a certain harbinger and I-”

“Where?” The Yaksha growled.

“In the Golden House.”

Without a word nor warning, Xiao placed a hand on the Traveler’s shoulder and teleported them to the place where the Exuvia is hidden.

To the Traveler, everything happened so quickly as one event led to another. One moment, they were standing among unconscious bodies of the Millelith then the next thing they knew a corrupted and demonic gust of wind flew them away to the side. Regaining back their vision, they could see Alatus’s spear now at Tartaglia’s barrier made of Sigils. 

Alatus narrowed his eyes at the floating talismans and began to calculate the flow of this incoming battle with precision and accuracy despite his losing control over himself. 

It was a tense minute of sizing each other up, but eventually, Tartaglia has broken the silence with his annoying innocent voice. 

“Who would have thought that I’d have the honor of fighting another adeptus of Liyue?” 

The question immediately fed the corruption within him, the dark aura exploding at it. He knew that he should not believe in the Harbinger’s words so easily, but the glint in the latter’s eyes held truth. You could be out there, hurting, scared, alone. You could be out there, bleeding out. You could be out there dyi-

His aura exploded once more at the thoughts spreading in his being. With a burst of unspeakable power, Alatus lifted his weapon and pierced the barrier once more, this time breaking it without failure. At the threat, Tartaglia backed away as he donned his mask.

In a similar fashion, Alatus, too donned his mask. “I will ask you once,” the Conqueror of Demons spoke with a deathly calm, “Where is she?”

He should have killed him then and there. But the call of the Overlord of the Vortex must not be ignored as it threatens Liyue. 

In the small opportunity of escape, Childe took it. But he was weak and injured as Alatus swiftly threw his spear to block his way and teleported right in front of him. In a show of power, the Conqueror of Demons lifted the mortal by the neck.

“I will ask you again, where is she?”

In fear, Childe told him everything and at his every word, Xiao listened carefully- never speaking once. But the anger within his heart, it boils- it rages. His amber eyes bored into Childe’s soul- thinking what he should do to this mortal. Oh how killing him would be so nice. However, when the Yaksha’s gaze landed on the regal form of the Exuvia, he merely threw the mortal in its way.

“Killing you would have been easier. However, the crimes you have presented against Liyue are not mine for me to judge.

I leave the Harbinger to you... Rex Lapis.”

Once out of the Golden House, the Overlord roared once more, shaking the lands of the nation. However, along with it, he heard the faintest of voices. I’m so sorry... I couldn’t hold him back anymore. 

Only then did the demons in his heart freely took control of him. Just like the stories of old, where the Yaksha walks, death follows. But they were no stories. In his way towards the ruins where you were held captive, every step he took brought carnage and even more death and blood to taint his hands. No Fatui will leave this place alive. The very being of destruction ended many lives. Each death, the demons were growing stronger.

All he wanted now was to kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill kill killkillkill killkill kill killkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkillkill

Then seeing you suspended in the ceiling and bound by chains. Blood was painted on your lifeless skin. Wounds were littered and bruises were blooming on your form. But most of all, your eyes. What were once full of life and hope- now empty and blank. His demons quieted down.

Broken. You were like a broken porcelain doll.

“N-name...” His voice cracked, not believing it all.

With haste, he quickly broke your binds and caught you in his arms. he was fast to check for your pulse and your breathing. And thank the Archons, you were breathing but barely. You were now walking the line between life and death. With all his might yet a gentle caress, he hugged you for dear life. “Name... It’s me...”

But still, your eyes still held no recognition and it shattered his heart to pieces. With further inspection, he sensed the presence within you. A corruption. A certain evil. 

“Name, stay with me please,” Xiao begged with desperation as he fought back tears. “It’s me who supposed to be the corrupted one between us, not you... I’m not allowing you to leave me, you hear me-”

With a ritual of the adeptal arts, he started purging and purifying the evil left by the god who fed from you. He is not letting you stay alone in your prison, not for a second longer. 

Xiao prays and he never prayed before. Even to his master. But just this once, He prays with desperation. You are the light in his darkness. You are the moon in his night. 

The ritual was a delicate process. For every word he spoke, he was rewarded by your screams of pain and the writhing of your fragile body. He wanted to stop, but he can’t. He had to physically restrain you from trying to escape from his embrace and from hurting yourself. And for every cry you released, Xiao merely shuts his eyes clos just for him not to see your pained eyes. Every now and then, Xiao speaks gentle apologies and words of encouragement for you. You were coming back. But still, the evil persists.

You writhed and scratched against him, until you were creating more wounds for blood to seep through. When it came to a point, you began pleading and begging for him to stop, that was when Xiao had shed a tear. So he continues the ritual, his prayers, and his apologies. They were arriving to a point where the ritual is reaching its conclusion but your screams only grew louder.

Please, just a little more...

The corruption disintegrated away from you in a forceful release of dark energy. He was breathing deeply, attempting to calm his loud heart. When he placed his gaze on you, you were breathing rapidly and your eyes were searching blindly and your hands were desperately holding onto him.

“X-Xiao...” You whispered, “Where am I? Where are you?”

With a sigh of relief, the Yaksha hugged you again closer and his forehead to yours, fearing you would go away again. The action made you lift your hands to his face, still searching blindly.

“I’m here, Name... I’m here.” At his voice, the dam in your eyes broke as you cried silently. Xiao was not adept in emotions, but for you, he will face them gladly. He lets you cry as he gives you soft whispers of assurance, safety, love, and promises. However, you were not crying because of what had happened to you. You were crying for him. After experiencing such corruption-

You sobbed some more- you were this close to him losing you and you could not bring yourself to imagine if your roles were reversed.

“P-please,” you said with a broken voice, “please don’t go to the place where I can’t follow...’

The words, at first puzzled him, but after a few moments, he realized and once more it broke his heart. Bringing you closer, Xiao let loose the tears he was holding back. With a gentleness unexpected of the Conqueror, he simply littered your face with kisses. “I promise if only you would do the same.”

With your smile that he loved dearly for so long you too spoke your promise, “I do.” They were simply two words, but the comfort they bring into the Yaksha’s heart was in volumes.

After that, you shared a few tender moments in each other’s arms. Simply relishing the feeling of their familiar warmth. A little later, Xiao spoke, “Would you like to eat some Almond Tofu once we get home?”

The question made you giggle at his innocence, so you agreed. Despite you needing physical medical attention. But Almond Tofu with him? Yes, you two definitely need some emotional healing.

WOH Concert (3-4 May 2021)

- The fact that they even have a grand scale wedding ceremony drama concert

- GJ did not attend ZZH's first solo concert, but both of them have their own concert together for the first time

- Chinese have a traditional tradition of calculating auspicious dates (metaphysics). It can be calculated commonly for when to move in to a new house, bury a deceased, open a business, hold a wedding etc. 3 - 4 May were auspicious dates for Wedding and marriage registration.

- The concert was held at a stadium in Su Zhou, but the entire city was blatantly supporting everything and anything about WenZhou like it's New Year's Eve. Eg. Building, helicopter banners, bus advertising, drone show, lantern display, subway endorsement, city's official account using WOH quotes applying to safety regulations, curated photo booths, life sized figurine of WenZhou (YouKu kept it as prideful display at their office entrance after the concert), crowds of fan support and cheers etc.

Drone show snippet:

- Both of them were given the center of attention for the entire 2 days of WOH concert. It was WenZhou/JunZhe concert in disguise as WOH concert.

= This gave them both the opportunity to show what they feel for each other openly (whether as WenZhou themselves or as JunZhe)

- To have a stage to be what they are* and have fun, while being accepted and greatly supported by a sea of Mountain people (山人), no matter how one sees it, it's an extremely touching form of support for them

*Disclaimer: obviously they weren't 100% themselves, mindful of the fact that this stage was monitored by important media bodies (not exactly sure what kind, but somewhat government-ish regulators I presume), but their gaze and body language is just as natural as what they are.

= The fact that the country in general is not open to this kind of relationship, yet they were in a place where most of the people were supportive.

- Yes, there were some important bodies (or eyes) during the 2 days concert. Which was why all the actors and actresses were warned. - ZZH had the opportunity to vow a promise to GJ witnessed by X million of people in the stadium and those watching livestream, that he will always be there for GJ. He did not only vow as a companion to GJ, in ZZH terms, he actually vowed "I will love you forever" [ZZH on 'love' saga]

- The in-ear mic had the voices of the backstage crew's coordination. ZZH took it off early, but GJ was still wearing them during the exchange. That itself is a stressor as the backstage coordinator must have warned extremely sternly and loudly and GJ was shakingly nervous. When ZZH was giving this vow (which in the concert BTS release, we see him say "Don't I have a segment to speak to WKX?" Note, it's WKX, not GJ), the backstage crew was cursing and swearing when ZZH went with "I have things to say to Jun Jun." (as WenZhou, they have a disguise/a shield, with direct GJ, it's just...danger danger red light) Try imagine being the backstage crew and going all mad and crazy over what ZZH said that moment.

= ZZH's daring courage to say things like these was probably built up from his sportsmanship, hot-blooded passion from his past. It's beyond my peasant mortal's comprehension.

- After the concert was over, solo fans expect the main leads to break up even as co-workers or say, being even in the same frame. This expectation is extremely strong in the industry for years. The same goes for JunZhe despite this time many are cpfans but they do know this prevalent expectation. So imagine crying over the vow and the next moment, just hours after the concert, JunZhe is happily sticking to each other singing in the same frame as if they did nothing big a few hours ago. They sang a phrase together with this lyrics: 30% arranged by fate/god, 70% arranged by hard work. A love for perseverance will lead to success/winning.

- The word 'support' or at least 'love seeing them together', is the general reason CPfans are fans of them. But to both GJ and ZZH, it really goes beyond the word itself. Acknowledging is just the beginning. ZZH does take LLD to heart and GJ is very interactive with LLDs in his own quirky way.

*From the [Star X Moon Saga], to the developed feelings because of this drama and actually accepting their feelings, to the fact that the pitiful budgeted amount for WOH was not well received at all before it was broadcasted but boomed records in the end, to the open shipping support by the production crew/casts/general media/fans/brands/cities, to the climbing successes and mountainous opportunities opened for GJ and ZZH overnight, everything was unprecedented and unexpected, but they all dramatically happened to the two of them in a span of one year.

Bonus

A fan went to a temple to check out JunZhe's fate. You can only check for one person and she checked for GJ. She passed her result to a Master and he immediately tell her to give up because that person is taken and turned away. The fan quickly corrected and say she's actually checking for someone else, the master turned back and checked her read again and said, everything is aligned to their favour, it's blessed by the Gods. (If I can find the full article again, will add on more but that's the gist, surfing in China made me love Google's search engine algorithm so much more).

A few other fans who 抽签 (Chinese praying tradition - simply put: draw a stick of varying luck). They all got the bestest of luck for JunZhe. (Reading the readings, I'm just...in awe...I...)
