7-8: i got colored pens!!! specifically a 10 pack of tombow fudenosukes. like the pic says i will probably keep using black pens mostly but the option is nice to have. i am very proud of that riley in the GLORYYY! shirt

9-10: revamping furry ocs i made... 6 whole years ago jesus christ. i want to wait until i redraw a 2019 piece of them before i make a whole post about them, but the tiger with sunglasses is a fashion designer and the hyena, lion, and tiger cub are his kids. he also has a hyena husband but i didn't draw him here

11-12: NEW OC! this is andres she is a spotted genet that works at a cafe in the university library. i had been meaning to make a spotted genet oc, and i originally drew him months ago and forgot, but i decided to revisit her because 1) there is a beautiful bigender barista at the coffee shop i draw at so this is a shoutout to her and 2) i wanted to make a bald character who is also a heartthrob so i could feel better about going bald eventually LOL. also ferret riley is there i guess

i was watching ethan is online's "you're wrong about modern art" video and when he said "I don't think Charlie knows any gay people" it instantly articulated to me 1) why I hate moistcr1tikal and 2) why I love hivemind

like... moistcr1tikal is a bumbling fucking idiot who lives in Tampa. and I also live in florida so clearly there are gay people there but you can tell he's not talking to them. Tbh he gives me the vibes of someone who's not outwardly phobic cus its a bad public image, but if his fans were being nasty he would look the other way. Plus the only time I've seen him talk about lgbt stuff he said "most people in 2023 don't have an issue with people being gay" which is so untrue that I wanted to throttle him through the screen

Meanwhile hivemind clearly know SEVERAL gay people and talk about their support of the lgbt community all the time and one of riley's twitter besties (ro ramdin) is a cool and awesome tgirl that they'd love to have on the show. Like any jokes aside it is really nice having a lgbt-friendly youtube channel like this, both in just making jokes about stuff (like smokey the twink 😭) and actually moderating their community (turning off any vaguely phobic shit that gets submitted on streams and not refunding them iirc, and now I think Tony actually vets everything before it gets played). I could imagine it's also an oasis specifically for lgbt rap/hip-hop fans cus there's a loooot of homophobic and transphobic rap fans. If you bring up lil uzi vert's pronouns in like any other comment section I bet people would eat you alive

I AM ASKING YOU ABOUT YOUR ZOMBIE AUS 🤲🤲🤲🤲 I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THEM !!!!!!!!!!!! i looooove a good zombie au

okok so both my riptide and pd one are heavily inspired by two different zombapoc video games,, being telltale's walking dead video games and the last of us. buuut i've put a lot of original thoughts and ideas into them and i. love them so much ^__^

the riptide one is pretty messy but the PD one is the one im prouder of :D (both AUs have heavy spoilers for both campaigns)

Riptide

-basically, this AU is inspired by the dynamic of Lee and Clementine from the first walking dead game, but it's branched out a lot further than that.

-at the start of the zombie apocalypse, Arlin teamed up w/Drey and Finn under Captain Rose, and they all formed a lil survivor group (rest of the black rose pirate are there too-- minus chip.)

-when the trio's scavenging through a neighborhood, Chip manages to steal from them, and Arlin's the first one to catch him. Chip, being himself, thinks Arlin is insanely cool and basically makes him adopt him.

-essentially the entire AU follows Arlin trying to find Chip's parents, while Rose is moving the group north through the city to reunite with his lover (and external evidence points to Chip's parents potentially being up North too, in one of the big survivor bases).

-all is fine until, yk. zombies attack them. but these are more distorted, creepier zombies, and they work in more of a coordinated spooky hivemind instead of being the typical braindead zombies as is typical of twd/twd-inspired stuff.

-rest of it vaguely follows the plot of the hole in the sea but. zombies.

-essentially, ten or so years later, Chip appears in Featherbrooke, a navy-ran (the navy still exists here don't ask) base that Jay lives in. And then it's like Origins but. zombies.

-Chip convinces Jay to join him on the road while also talking big about how he's out searching for the old Black Rose group, and is also convinced that Finn Tidestrider could create a cure for the zombies.

-gillion fucking Shows Up.

-etcetc. stuff happens.

-basically, the dynamics here are heavily inspired by the TWDG series, but grew and branched out etc. Chip and Arlin are kind of inspired by Clementine and Lee,, Chip and Ollie are kind of like Clementine and AJ,, etc.

-also. Drey is immune. He gets bit the last time that Chip ever sees him which is why Chip thinks that he's dead, but. nope ^__^ this is also why he's kept in prison by the navy, but also kept largely a secret.

-The Ferins in general in this au are all entirely fucked up and have weird connections to immunity/resistance against. becoming zombies.

^^^- Jay got sent out with Chip as a spy because he kept talking about Finn and finding a cure (+ Jayson also has the knowledge of Drey, etc.) and basically, Jayson thinks that finding a cure could help cure Ava, who died to a zombie bite around 5 years ago.

I ACTUALLY HAVE A LONGFIC OF THIS ONE IN THE WORKS. BUT IT'S TAKING ME A SECOND. it's inspired by TLOU but my TLOU knowledge is actually pretty lackluster </3

-basically, the barebones of this AU is that it's TLOU. Mark is like Joel, Dakota is like Ellie, and Ashe is like Sarah.

-Instead of straight up zombies, it's demons.

-Superpowers and superheroes still exist in this AU, but they are definitely pretty different.

-The apocalypse started when Ashe summoned the trickster, killing their mother etc., but wasn't able to push the trickster back. The chaos zone opened which caused the world to fall to ruin.

-People live in safe zones put together by WATCH, and are all heavily discouraged from leaving due to the. yknow. posessions.

-William is "dead" at the modern day of the AU. He and Ashe were friends before the end of the world, but William was killed by Ashe/The Trickster.

-The closer parallel to Riley is Katori/"rooftop girl",, this part of Dakota's backstory is still pretty similar.

-The AU actually starts when Mark is tasked by Overlord to smuggle "cargo" across Prime, said cargo being Dakota.

- The Overlord is doing all that weird human experimentation shit like in canon, but this time is trying to combine human and demon DNA for the purpose of finding a "cure"/ a way for people to resist being posessed.

-Here's my favorite part of this AU. Dakota is immune to being possessed by demons cause he literally just fucking eats them. This is only possible because of fucking Fartbo i hate it here

-Anyways, William suddenly wakes up alive after being dead for 20 years at the start of the AU. He sees a wisp guiding him and follows it.

-Around the same time, Vyncent still got isekai'd. As one does. Cantrip robbed him on his first day in Prime because I think that's funny.

-Tide is a hero in the Rockfall safe zone, who adopts and mentors Vyncent and William when they first show up.

CHAPTER 1: Crush

Graydon had always questioned whether he was bi, but put it to the back of his mind ever since he started dating Blond Eden. Ever since Blond Eden died, Graydon’s crush on Riley became really strong. 

Graydon walked into the studio in order to film a video with his best friend and long time crush, Riley. 

They had hooked up a couple of times, but Graydon wondered if their relationship was only sexual.

“Hey Graydon!” Riley said.

Graydon’s heart fluttered. Omg he’s so hot, Graydon thought. “Ready to shoot this video?”

“Of course!” Riley responded, “Tony? DJ Grant? We all good to go?”

Both Tony and DJ Grant gave a thumbs up.

The video was another episode of Q4U. Graydon was doing really bad, only getting 2 points whereas Riley had 6. Graydon could have guessed the answers correctly if he had thought hard enough, but he was distracted by Riley's beautiful hair and mustache.

I have a great idea, Graydon thought I should tell him I like him, through a bit! “Hey, I have something to tell you.” Graydon started, “I have a major crush on you.” He had intended to confess his love through the guise of a bit, but his blushing face started to give him away. OH FUCK, he thought.

“Ha Ha Ha” said DG Grant.

“Really” Riley stated.

“No you're Riley,” said Graydon, trying to save the bit. “I’m Graydon”

“Ha Ha Ha” said DG Grant.

“That’s DG Grant, that's Hank, that’s Tony, and that’s the ghost that haunts the studio.” he continued, pointing at each person.

“No, that’s not what I meant,” Riley said, putting his head in his hands. “I meant, do you really have a crush on me?”

“Hm?” responded Graydon.

“Ha Ha Ha” said DG Grant.

“No, you’re Riley. I’m Graydon, that’s DG Grant, that's Hank, that’s Tony, and that’s the ghost that haunts the studio!” He repeated.

“Ha Ha Ha” said DG Grant.

“Nevermind. DJ Grant, what’s the next question?” Riley asked.

After shooting the video Dignan rode in on a spinning Little Caesars sign. “Hey slut” he said to Riley, making him blush (he likes to be degraded by Dignan). 

“Sup, Dignan” said Riley bashfully.

“Hi, Dignan,” said Graydon, feeling jealous, “Want a smoke? I got some Marlboro reds”

“Nah, I just came to say hi” he does a kickflip on his sign “see ya”

Graydon then turned to Riley and said, “Wanna hang out tonight at my place?”

 “I’d love to,” said Riley seductively.

“Ok then, see you later,” Graydon said. “Bye everyone”

“See ya” said Riley

 “Ha Ha Ha” said DG Grant.

Dignan stopped Graydon on the way out of the building. “I heard what you said up there while you were shooting that video”

“What? How?” asked Graydon.

“Don’t you dare take Riley from me, he’s MY little pookie bear!” Dignan growled. “I got the whole place bugged you little shit, and don’t you dare try finding them.”

“It was just a bit I swear!” Graydon retaliated.

“Fuck off, I know what you are. Stay in your fucking lane.”

“Fine. I admit. It wasn't just a bit. I love him, and you can't take that away from me.”

“Let’s just wait and see who HE picks then. Is he a Digrider or a ‘Graydonrider’?”

ahh I got autism so these are strange recs but i got so much love for

- VTUBERS WAHHH: mysta rias and shxtou < 3 faves i love them sm (though if they're not your taste there's always at least one you'll like from experience) They always have events and streams together, they're very chaotic, the general fanbase is completely rancid but there are pockets of it that are fun and sweet

- Lucy Haze: she does politics, but also just chill gaming streams, and I find her voice to be really calming. Her community is also very sweet

- Brad Taste In Music: music reviewer whose channel is genuinely so fun. he gives all the music a fair chance and listens through, and there's a bunch of running jokes in the fandom that are fun

I Don't Wanna Go Home (1/15?)

So, this is probably going to be my most ambitious project ever. I'm going to do a fusion of the video gave Subnautica Below Zero, with the characters from Cloverfield Paradox. You don't have to have played Below Zero first, although it would certainly help. Also, as someone who has played the game, I tried my best to explain everything, which is why the first few chapters are going to be really slow, and why everyone talks so much. I also made a change to the canon of the first Subnautica: instead of Riley curing Kharaa, it was the precursors.

So, a few more things before we start this chapter. I hate "y/n l/n" stuff, so I just call the pov character Ling Tam. I don't think anybody actually uses that name in the story, but that might change, and in any case, you're free to replace her name with any name you like. Also, reader is in a relationship with Mundy at the start of the story, although that, obviously, won't last because it's endgame reader/Schmidt. "Hey, Monk, you told me to come get you if that weird signal showed up ag-" you stop when you see the vehicle technician on the radio.

"When are you going to send me some more art? There's still a patch of bare wall here that could use some color and a touch of genius!" Monk says, probably to his kids, as he waves you away. You close the door as silently as you can, and not a second too soon, because Mundy opens the habitat door and stomps his way inside with a box. Behind him, you can see the prawn suit, with several other boxes still tied to its massive arms. There's an inquisitive face popping out of the water that you decide not to tell him about. Why shouldn't the creatures have a little fun?

"Another day, another slight by the winged furies," Mundy grumbles.

"Another interference alert?" you ask, trying to lay the sympathy on thick before you inevitably burst into laughter.

"As usual," the xenobiologist sighs theatrically. "Also as usual, I went out to see what the problem was. And, of course, it was-"

"Frozen stalagmites of feathered bird excrement," the two of you say together.

"I fear the career impact of saying this officially-"

"If you can even call what you have a career," you interrupt, getting yourself a faceful of dirty towel.

Besides throwing the thing you're really hoping he hadn't just used to wipe up bird shit in your face, your boyfriend continues as if you'd never spoken. "I could swear they're targeting me personally. The week I was out with a flu, I came back to find the tower spotless. Monk laughed at me when I asked him how he'd cleaned it. Silly me!"

"As if Monk would ever clean anything," you agree. "What are you going to do?"

"There's nothing left for me to try but quitting. But I know that's what the birds want me to do," he shakes his fist at the sky as he walks back outside to retrieve the final box.

You turn back to the screen and wonder about the signal again. It's been appearing on and off for days, ever since you got the radio tower up and running, and what would a repeat call be besides a distress signal?

"Ah jeez, these sea monkeys are going to get me in trouble," the box in Mundy's hands is scratched through in places. "This is the third shipment that those buggers have gotten their weird little hands into! Now we're running low on flares and I'm going to have to search nearby nests for stolen cargo," he sighs as he drops a mangled box on the top of his cluttered workstation. It makes a bang that would have disturbed Monk, if he weren't on the radio, or Schmidt, if he were a normal person who came back from work at normal hours. As it is, there's just you to look at him, a welcome break from potential distress signals and what they might mean.

"Just put some of your drawings on the tower, they'll be too scared to go near it!"

"Ha ha," Mundy says sarcastically, before going outside to park the prawn-

"Oh, for fuck's sake! It’s fucking gone!"

You and Monk, still on the radio, step outside, but sure enough, the prawn suit has disappeared without a trace, as far as you can tell.

"I'm still trying, quietly--I don't want any more trouble--to figure out where I went wrong. I was sure Tam had picked up a distress signal!" Monk bends down to peer at the tracks. "I was right on top of it. And then it just," he gets to the edge of the glacier, stands up, and shakes his head, "it just stopped. What if one of the precursors is still down there? And how could a hivemind alien race so advanced that they singlehandedly ended a galaxy wide pandemic leave someone behind? I'll probably be home before I ever get to find out, and it will fall to some future researcher to come and find out, I guess, I hope," he waves the two of you back into the habitat and closes the door. "But that means I'll get to be with you little rascals." His voice fades and disappears.

"So, game tonight?" you ask, hoping to erase the distress off Mundy’s face.

"That'd be nice," he says with a weak smile, just before Jensen slams her door open.

"Mundy, inside!" barks the overseer of operations.

Mundy sighs and drags his feet as he walks into Jensen's office. No sooner has she closed the door with a snap than you and Monk have your heads pressed against the door.

"Mundy, I'm not blaming you, but what do you mean, 'it's gone?' Where did it go? You had trouble retrieving the drop pod and decided to jettison the prawn suit?"

"I didn't jettison the prawn suit! I left it outside to put the supply drop away, went back for it, and it was just gone! Someone must have stolen it."

"Who? Who else do you think is on this planet besides the five of us?"

"It could be a creature ate it. I didn't lose it, that's for sure. I'm careful with my vehicles!"

You can practically hear Jensen’s eyeroll as she continues, "I'm sure you are, but you have to admit, there have been a lot of 'accidents' involving our very expensive vehicles."

"You want to follow me on a few runs tomorrow? See what it's like? Conditions are way harsher than anything I ever imagined. You can't really understand it from inside your office!"

Monk winces, and you know there's a matching pained expression on your face. Talking back to Jensen is a terrible idea, but Mundy's sealed his fate, and now all that's left is to wait for the other shoe to drop.

"That won't be necessary," Jensen says with syrupy calm. "Thank you for your time. I'll write it up as an accident."

"Thank you, ma'am," Mundy's voice is shaky. Jensen doesn't respond, so the vehicle technician’s deliberately loud footsteps approach the door, prompting you and the precursor researcher you're spying with to run like your asses are on fire back to your stations.

"I think it'd be best if Researcher Tam takes over your duties with the leviathan tomorrow," Jensen says, loudly enough for you to hear, even through the door.

Now it's your turn to wince. Mundy gives you a small smile as he walks past, and then Jensen's in your line of sight, hands on her hips.

"I believe I told you to go somewhere."

"Yes, ma'am," you drop everything to put your thermal suit on, and pour a final cup of sweet, sweet dirty bean water in your thermos. There's no cappuccino machine allowed in the cave, lest it somehow thaw out the entire frozen leviathan Mundy, and now you, are studying. Or maybe it was just Schmidt being anal about his robots, you wouldn't put it past the guy whose lips are basically permanently attached to Jensen's ass.

On the bright side, they're also attached to a guy who knows what he's doing, and is thorough in explaining what Mundy does when he's here. Still, it's barely five minutes in when the silence gets to you.

"I love and hate exploring these tunnels," you start to babble, not expecting Schmidt to respond. "Yeah, they're marvels to the power of the ice worms. I mean, the amount of ice they are able to cut through in seconds, it would take us at least a couple days. Their tunneling mechanism is ruthlessly efficient. Alterra could only dream of having this sort of mining capability, and yeah, the ice worms uncover mineral rich pockets as they tunnel. But going beneath the surface is so risky, I mean, we've lost so many already, and I don't understand why we have to stay in this particular area of the glacier. I can't wait to get off this hellhole, or ice hole? Whatever."

You can hardly believe it, but you hear a clear snort coming from Schmidt’s workstation. You fill your flasks with a wide smile on your face, which doesn’t fade even when you make your way back across the tunnel to see his with its usual pinched, sour expression.

"Hey, do you want some coffee?" you wave the thermos at him. "It might help you get the taste of Alterra boot leather out of your mouth," you say in a singsong voice.

"How much sugar and cream is in that?" Schmidt wrinkles his nose. "No thank you."

You decide to let that roll off your back and chuckle a little. "I guess my proclivities toward having coffee with my sugar is well known, huh? Just like how I should know better than to invite you to game night with me and the other researchers, again?"

Is snow blindness affecting your vision, or did Schmidt just smile?

"You should know better," he says in a soft voice, and then he takes out another set of small, sterile flasks, and hands them to you. "Get some samples from the skull, too, use the elevator."

"Thanks!" you grab the flasks, only to drop them the second you put your hand on the elevator lift button, because that's a fucking rotten peeper hanging off the edge.

Schmidt snaps his gloves off and cleans it up, which is nice of him, even if the things he says while he does it aren’t very nice. "Mundy," he practically spits, "always leaving food around. At least the nutrient blocks and the filtered water don't spoil."

"Well, the man likes to munch on things," you try to lighten the mood. "Are you telling me you don’t leave snacks around your workstation?" Schmidt opens his mouth, but you interrupt. "Don't tell me, you have a timer telling you when to go to the fabricator to make food and eat?"

He closes his mouth and turns a little red.

Holy shit, you were right? That's the saddest thing you've ever heard. "Okay, you know what, you are definitely playing Alien Intruders with us tonight, because I'm going to cook. Real food, too, none of that fabricated stuff."

"Oh, I am?" Schmidt raises an eyebrow.

"Yep! And I'm going to make my favorite dish, just for you, you'll love it! Roasted Chinese potato with shredded marblemelon and salt."

That was definitely a snort, maybe even a laugh, and it carries you through the rest of the day.

who are your biggest artistic influences my furry friend? we had art classes together for years but i still feel like i don’t know 😭

😭😭😭 honestly thats probably cus a lot of my artistic influences are specifically internet artists that ive been following for several years and not things i couldve brought up in art class. you know that lame ass mr smith wouldve hated me if i said 'yeah i draw like this cus of some bts fanart girlie on twitter'. thankfully i have the Archivist's Temperament and save like literally everything thats had an effect on my style... so below is a journey thru my artistic influences (and various insp folders on my computer) as far as i can remember

of course the most basal Dorian Influence is disney movies. you are my brother in arms in the lion king fandom so you know this. whenever i am feeling extremely artistically bankrupt i try to revitalize myself by rewatching the lion king, atlantis, and treasure planet. and also the prince of egypt but thats dreamworks LOL

in 2016 i found the first "online" artists i distinctly remember wanting to imitate, which were sara kipin and celia lowenthal because i was obsessed with how they used color to block out their illustrations. ive also been following dimetrodone(/dimetrodrawn/deinocheirus) on here since 2016 and love all the shapes and colors in her work

in 2017 i started doing more detailed shading because i saw bts fanart by the artist tyu_naxx on twitter and loved how they did it (below is like THE piece that made me change my whole shit up)

around then is also when i started trending towards using limited palettes and that was mostly inspired by various national parks promo artworks that would only have like 5 colors in them. wish i remembered who made these but heres ancient scans of some postcards i got at sequoia national park that changed me

in early 2019 i started wanting my style to be more cartoony so i would constantly peruse the backlogs of kiwi, officialspec, skunkes and mimiadraws to get whatever inspiration i could from them

in late 2019 i completely pivoted for some reason and started doing lineless rendered semirealistic stuff instead. i think that was mostly cus i hated doing lineart. one of my biggest inspirations in that era was atissi

in 2020 i remember i went crazy stupid on using glow effects and chromatic aberration on stuff and i genuinely think all of it can be traced to this ONE piece of bts fanart by lordizxy on twitter like i was fully obsessed (putting it below also in case it gets deleted somehow)

mid 2021 was when i got tired of semirealism and thought it was too amorphous and restricting so i went back to cartoony shit. i was still looking at the artists i listed for early 2019 but i also added artists like iplidl, catmunches, and chunkysoup22 to the mix

2022 was an inspirationless nightmare i have no clue what i was doing for that entire year. the artblock was BAD. i mostly just looked at art from all the artists i mentioned before while artistically wandering in circles. a lot of this was me trying and failing to figure out whether i wanted to do more dynamic yet less rendered art or... the opposite of that

thankfully in 2023 i finally FIGURED THAT SHIT OUT. i would say the current dorian art era started with this silly drawing of graydon and riley hivemind as a dogboy and a catboy ⬇️

you can kinda see the influences of all the cartoonists i listed above but a lot of the way i draw now is just. me trying to not make myself hate doing art. ive always hated redoing a line 30000000 times for clean lineart so now its sketchy. rendering my art was making my drawings feel super stiff so now thats all messy too. etc etc

i think Right Now the artists i go to for inspiration the most are still kiwi and skunkes, but i also found the artist robottoast recently who makes RIDICULOUSLY good furry art, its so full of life and personality and i definitely need to commission them someday. the most recent singular piece thats changed my whole shit up is this scott pilgrim fanart by benadieshekiel (also below) because i really liked how the clothes were fully rendered while the skin and hair are less detailed with clear lineart. so sometimes i do that too

I get being critical of shows and entertainment. I understand having high standards for representation. But people are being so critical of every show that even offers diversity! Huge complaints I've seen are from Steven Universe and Sense8. Steven Universe-devil show because Onion is seen as a devil child and also is coded autistic and also its homophobic and racist Sense8: racist (i dont know how but its been called racist a lot, and i quite honestly dont understand why and if theres racism im missing i want to be educated on it), homophobic/transphobic shit show I really dont understand how either show is getting such hate. I understand that people are upset to see Steven being white washed, a pink alien boy would have been better. I understand how Onion could be coded as austistic so the fandom demonizing him is hurtful. But the actual in show content shows Steven being kind and accepting and trying to be friends with Onion despite not fully grasping him. Steven Universe shows very strong, diverse female characters and gives them flaws and good story arcs. Keeping in mind the lessons are coded for children. Yeah telling off Andy would have been awesome, but a 7 year old can't curse out their racist uncle at Christmas. Yeah Jasper should have been given redemption, same with Bismuth but a 7 year old needs to see that not everyone can be helped. As for Sense8, so many complaints i have seen arent even from source material. Its from circulated hivemind hate. Nomi is still a lesbian, her character wiki even says so. I get there is some annoyance with the slur scene where not everyone sees a word that is an actual slur while only 2 sensates do, that was an interesting choice but from a directing stand point I get it. The sensates have different experiences, things hurt people differently. So when Kala saw "virgin" she was hurt because she saw her only worth being tied to her sex life, and when she saw that word it was during an argument with Rajan. When Will saw "pig" it was to give him a base understanding to Lito's pain. Same with Wolfie and Riley. And everyone else. That scene was trying to do something beautiful, but it fell flat. Same issue with the sex scenes to connect everyone, it fell flat from the original idea. You can critique all you want, the entire show but it did have the theme of very different people coming together and embracing differences, using those differences to their advantage and helping each other which not many shows have. This is a shitty political climate and both shows are about love, friendship, and helping people. The harsher we are on shows the less of them we see. That's why we need to support them. Thats why we need to be critical but in a way that is constructive to allow more and better shows get made.
