You know, when I was first researching neurodivergence (and autism and ADHD in particular) and wondering if I was, in fact, neurodivergent, I brought my conclusions to my mom and she said:
"I mean, you're gifted, right? So you already are neurodivergent???"
So here's to her (kinda) and her words. Giftedness is a neurodivergence, in my opinion. From what I've seen, a lot of the traits overlap with common autistic and/or ADHD traits too, especially regarding overexcitabilities, and a lot of researchers talking about the topic describe giftedness with the same kind of "your brain is just made differently" and "you're just wired differently" language as they use for other neurodivergent conditions. But I also say this because I've seen some gifted people who, while struggling with some "autistic/ADHD traits," don't have all the traits necessary for an autism or ADHD diagnosis. Giftedness is a label for them that encompasses the struggles they have without saying that they don't struggle enough or forcing them to try to fit into a mold that isn't them. And I get that; when I was first questioning, I didn't think I had enough autistic traits to count for a diagnosis either, so I took comfort in a "gifted" label. (Not to say that all gifted people are just autistic people and/or people with ADHD that don't realize, or that all gifted people are just people who don't have enough traits for a diagnosis! That was just the case for me and the folks I've been around, but I've also heard the case of it not being that.)
But if I am gifted, then I also have autism. A lot of my struggles are, honestly, just better described by autism than just by a byproduct of giftedness. My struggles with people and with "being too much," my sensory differences (and yes, sometimes issues), my stimming, and some of my executive dysfunction all sound like autistic traits to me more than a mix of psychomotor and sensual overexcitabilities and a whole bunch of coincidental byproducts of my being gifted and hanging out with nongifted peers. Don't get me wrong; based on my family history, background, and traits, I honestly probably am gifted lol. But it's not just that.
So this is me saying that if the people around you are saying that you're just gifted, you're free to look for other, perhaps better explanations for your feelings and experiences. But if you are just gifted, you're still free to call yourself neurodivergent! My gifted traits lead to me feeling just as ostracized sometimes as my autistic ones, so who am I to police that label?

I am forever moderately amused by the fact that I have a biology degree but somehow wound up with a biologist OC whose specialty is not at all what mine is.
like, don't get me wrong, I love amphibians and reptiles. I used to volunteer for a summer camp where I got to show off amphibians and reptiles to kids and tell them all about the creepy crawly critters.
but my specialty is microorganisms. the macroorganisms I've done the most schooling in are invertebrates, in particular molluscs. which are not the purview of a herpetologist.
but character development just sort of happened and now I have a herpetologist OC.

So I started thinking and I ended up with a fic idea where the reader is an elementary school teacher and she meets Jonathan Levy at Ava's school. Maybe it's a school dance or something, she finds herself sitting next to Jonathan in the audience and small talk turns into something more serious.. I already know where I want this to go but idk if I have the time rn to write a long ass fic (at least not until I've finished my wips)

Is there anyone following me who would benefit from image IDs being added to things I reblog?
I reblog way too many things and I'm too inconsistent to really do this for much of the stuff, but if it would help someone then I can give it a go. Like, I personally find reading white text on a black background painful and nauseating, so if there's a specific kind of image anyone would like me to focus on I can try starting there. (I'm on mobile a lot, adding IDs would be easier on desktop so it might be a case of me tagging things to go back to.)
I'm also trying to get into the habit of tagging things like:
video captioned (captions/subtitles in the video itself
video transcribed (somewhere below the video the dialogue is typed out)
video described (somewhere below the video the video is described)
audio in tags (in my tags i've copied the previous user's tags which surmise the audio of the video) (this is a new tag - i need to switch to this from my current one which is 'ty ->')
image described (somewhere below the video there is an image ID)
video not described (no helpful information attached, the video will have been reblogged for visuals alone)
If a video isn't described but I've reblogged it, that means I've found that it's okay to watch without sound/it can still be enjoyable.
The only the time I reblog videos that need sound/described to understand/enjoy them is when I'm hacked off (sometimes those 'sound on!'/'unmute!' things, but usually when reblogs are talking about the video/how much of a good point it makes, and I want to know what it is).
