ok firstly: i completely agree!!! i mean, they could EASILY have scooby be there and just not talk! but, also, like.....why shy away from the silliness, the cartoon-y nature of it all......if you are a cartoon!!! i know it's made for adults but i mean. i sincerely doubt a dog saying ruh roh every now and then would turn off the adult audience tuning in to watch THE NEW SCOOBY DOO SHOW! i am not a big fan of taking of shows made for children and making them into hard r, for adults stuff. that's just my personal opinion, but it never translates well, it alienates every possible audience, and it comes off as goofier than if they had just played it silly. i genuinely think the live action movies are the perfect example of how to age something up without making it unwatchable for kids, and, more importantly, not getting rid of the humor and hijinks that the show was built on!

i like the character redesigns for the velma show (although i think the animation style is a bit generic and i agree that shaggy's hair is too clean cut LOL) and for the most part i like the casting EXCEPT FOR shaggy and fred which is CRAZY bc sam and glenn are easily two of my favorite comedic actors working today... i just dont know how well they fit the roles? although i think it is very unfair to judge them before i hear them so this may be a total nonissue it was just the main thing that jumped out to me. i really wouldnt care too much but already hearing from people who saw the first ep and seem to not like velma's characterization it concerns me i wont lie. velma is NOT mean (and she wouldnt call the cops over something @ multi versus)!!! she is dorky and driven and definitely very snarky and maybe slightly arrogant but i dont know if she has such a hard edge. i hope the teaser is just poking fun at the audience response and wont be her actual characterization in the show. also slightly unrelated but i just scrolled through the entire velma twitter account and given that the gimmick is that she's the one posting it all i feel the need to say: it does not matter what year it is, velma would suck ass at social media. like if she had a twitter she would use it retweet scientific articles and post pictures of bugs!!!! that's all

and of course, the main event, lesbian velma. i do just want to say i know that most pieces of scooby media are standalones, so velma not being gay in her show does not invalidate her lesbianism in the new movie. however i think it is a huge missed opportunity to not have her be a lesbian in the show that is made for adults and can probably much more easily get away with that given that it is something that has been so heavily theorized about and wanted. that being said, i do have a sneaking suspicion she will be bi in the show (honestly just guttural instinct + tweet about her kissing PEOPLE, not just boys, in the show) which is great if true! but lesbian velma will always be something near and dear to my heart so it is the piece of canon i will probably always hold onto. but apparently she has a crush on FRED???? and is beefing with DAPHNE over it?????? that is just. so. ooc. for like everyone involved. and so mean to people who care about the daphne and velma dynamic? like i love a complicated female relationship, but a) that is just not them, and b)OVER A BOY? OVER FRED??? FRED JONES??????

enough velma hbo talk (though i feel so bad for being so negative, i despise hate trains before stuff even comes out so i will say i will definitely give it a chance and i like that they are doing something different with it and having some fun with the characters and premise!!) i have not seen trick or treat scooby doo YET but i really like the animation and the velma scenes<3333 so perfect

Florida - A Stealing Second Extra | Baseball!Shawn

Hello, angels!!! This is me finally getting around to posting some Stealing Second blurbs because Spring Training is coming up and I can’t contain the baseball excitement. This particular piece takes place around eight or so months after where they were at the end of the final part and it’s 1.4k words. It can also be read as a standalone piece if you haven’t read the series, but if you’d like to read it, it’s linked in my masterlist! 

A pre-read study guide isn’t really needed other than to explain Spring Training a little bit! Basically, every spring right before a new season starts, the MLB teams divide between Arizona (my home sweet home) and Florida to begin practicing again. I explain it a little bit more in the blurb but, as always, if you have any questions please feel free to ask as well as send feedback! 

February was always your favorite month growing up, but for a somewhat unconventional reason. It most certainly was not because of Valentine’s Day, or even due to the (very) slightly warmer weather. February was your favorite month because it brought the beginning of Spring Training games: a glorious five weeks of exhibition baseball that culminated in MLB’s Opening Day at the tail-end of March. Every year, the arrival of Spring Training meant your family’s annual trip to sunny Florida for a week of watching the Blue Jays play at Dunedin Stadium. Once the World Series ended in October you would be majorly looking forward to the day when pitchers and catchers first reported to their teams’ stadiums in Arizona and Florida, and the countdown to the first Spring Training game began from there.

It was funny how quickly things could change.

As you’d gotten older, the family baseball trip eventually stopped happening. And, now that you were with Shawn, Spring Training meant over a month without seeing him while the team was down in Florida; something you were beginning to have to face the reality of. Away series’ were hard enough; you had to completely immerse yourself in the work that came with your new Media Relations position with the Jays in order to distract yourself while he was gone. You’d gotten used to having your boyfriend of eight months all to yourself now that it was the off-season, and you would soon have to adjust to once again sharing him with baseball fans everywhere. You had no idea what you were in for when it came to five consecutive weeks without him.

The point of Spring Training was to obviously get established players from the thirty teams back into the swing of baseball, but it was the younger, lesser-known players that got the majority of the playing time, as a large facet of Spring Training was giving new guys the chance to try out for an official spot on their team’s roster. Shawn had gotten loads of playing time last year, but now that he’d spent a full season as the Blue Jays’ starting second baseman you knew he’d get considerably less time on the field this spring. He was going to be gone for five weeks, and you would hardly even get to see him play.

On a Friday night in the second-to-last week of January after a particularly stressful day at work, you found yourself curled into the side of the couch in your and Shawn’s shared apartment, a glass of wine in hand as a random made-for-TV movie played in the background. Shawn had gone for dinner with a few friends he used to play with back in high school, and he was going to be home any minute. To say you couldn’t wait would be an understatement.

As if he’d read your mind, you heard keys jingling in the lock of the front door. You craned your neck over the back of the sofa to see Shawn come in the door, kicking his shoes off to leave them in the foyer. “Hey, hon,” he called, shrugging off his coat as he made his way over to you. You set your wine glass down on the coffee table just before Shawn sat next to you, a curious white envelope in his hand.

You quirked an eyebrow, motioning towards it. “Whatcha got there?”

He grinned, causing your brow to furrow and a small, curious smile to cross your mouth. “I have a surprise for you,” he stated simply, handing the envelope over to you. You took it hesitantly, turning it over in your hands to see if there was anything written anywhere on it. “The surprise is inside the envelope, believe it or not,” he added sarcastically, and you rolled your eyes as you playfully nudged his arm with your shoulder.

You delicately tore back the envelope’s flap, revealing a piece of paper that had been folded up to fit inside. You began to straighten it out, looking up to quirk an eyebrow at Shawn who just sat there smiling back at you. You returned your focus to the paper in your hand, staring at it until you suddenly realized what it was: a flight confirmation. A flight confirmation to Florida during Spring Training. You snapped your widened eyes back up to Shawn.

“Shawn, I--,” you stuttered, almost speechless. “I don’t know what to say. This is amazing, I can’t believe you did this for me, and--” Wait. You suddenly froze as rational thoughts began to flood back into your mind, and you let out the excited breath you were holding.

Shawn narrowed his eyes at you, moving his hand to rest on your thigh. “Hey. What’s wrong?”

You sighed heavily. “There’s no way I can take time off of work this soon.” You swallowed hard, knowing full well you’d just crushed him, but the smirk that crossed his face caused your brow to furrow even more.

“See, I figured that, which is why I talked to your boss before I even bought the ticket. You’ve got exactly a week off.”

“W-what? You talked to Greg?”

He nodded, sporting a grin that evidenced how proud of himself he was for pulling it off. “His one condition was that you send in at least three team status reports to MLB.com, but I figured that wouldn’t really matter considering you’d be scorekeeping and taking down notes and stats anyways.”

You giggled, partly out of pure giddiness and partly because of how Shawn knew you like the back of his hand. “Exactly. So that’s a very small price to pay,” you responded, pressing your fingers to your mouth. “I can’t believe I’m going to Florida.”

“We’re going to Florida,” he repeated, a massive grin stretching across his face as you flung your arms around his neck, tackling him down in a hug as the two of you erupted into a fit of excited laughter.

“I’m just excited to finally see you in uniform again,” you teased, face still pressed into his neck.

“Yeah?” he laughed, pulling back to shoot you a smug smile.

You giggled. “You know I love you in your jersey.”

“I love you in my jersey,” Shawn replied, and you buried your face back into the crook of his neck as you felt heat rise to your cheeks. He chuckled, pressing a chaste kiss to your shoulder as his arms wrapped completely around your waist, anchoring you against him as though he were worried you’d float away.

You laid there for a while, chest to chest with Shawn’s back pressed against the couch, until you felt him suck in a breath. You propped yourself up on your forearms, looking down at him and silently prompting him to speak. “I forgot to mention something.”

You frowned, a quizzical expression coloring your features. “What did you forget?”

You could see him trying to bite back a smile, and you began to giggle lightly in nervous anticipation of what he was going to say. “So we don’t have a game one of the days you’re out there,” he began, and you hummed in understanding, waiting for him to continue. “So right after our game the day before, we’re gonna go to a little island just off the coast and we’ll be able to spend the entire next day there. I got us a room right on the water and everything.”

“Wait, are you serious?” you interrogated, feeling your eyes bulge in shock.

“One hundred percent,” Shawn replied matter-of-factly, his brown eyes never leaving yours.

You pressed your face into his chest, almost too surprised to speak. “I cannot believe you, Mendes,” you muttered against his shirt, and he laughed. “You’re the fucking best.”

“What was that?”

You picked your head up, resting your chin on your hands that were pressed flat against his torso. “I said you’re the best.”

He frowned, making a show of reaching his hand behind his ear and tilting his head towards you. “One more time?”

You scoffed lightly, pressing your cheek back against his shirt. “You heard me.”

“Heard what?”

“I hate you,” you retorted, biting back a smile as you absentmindedly reached a hand up to thread through his hair.

“But I thought I was the best?”

“Whatever, Mendes,” you giggled, lifting your head to press a kiss to the underside of his jaw and letting out a little hum of content.

It was suddenly only a matter of time until you’d be seeing your favorite team, in your favorite place, with your favorite boy, and you couldn’t be more excited. Finally.

i literally found what would have been the hospital rich was at (it wasn’t a hospital, but it shared the name), figured out how long it would take to get there and back by train, looked up train schedules + ticket prices, and basically how to get to the medical center from one of the train stations there

       A week later and you’re already buried in your work. The contents of your room have practically been shoved into the closet as you invested all your time into each little detail in each costume. You spent your days either working on small details while in different classes, spray painting shoes during drama, or scribbling in answers to homework due the next period (or day, if you were lucky), courtesy of Christine. If you had a chance, you’d crash on the small, cheap couch in the drama room for a bit, and then you were back home and sewing and (rarely) burning your fingers on hot glue.

       It was hell, but it was worth it.

ok it legit depends. usually my first draft is the draft since almost everything i post on this account is a rough draft tbh (which is also the reason why i get so much writing done tbh)

i’ll usually rewrite something once or twice if it doesn’t stick the very first time. (aka this is what’s going on with control pt.2)

for my ocs that i don’t rly talk about here: i usually draw their personality, looks, ect. from a single idea. jaden came from me wanting to write a more bookish character. welton came from the idea of me wanting to make a gamer, essentially. sachiyo came from a self insert and evolved from there.

i have a Really old project called To Perdition and Back which follows a man named Carson as he and his team basically saves ppl from a sort of purgatory???

it would basically deal with his personal struggle. he had an affair with ivan, a man at his work who died during one of their expeditions - and the fact his wife is basically never there for him or his kids, which causes a bit of a strain on the family itself.

the tv show would basically follow carson + his team tbh? plus there’d be subtle hints leading toward the fact that (spoiler) ivan isn’t dead.

the plan is that the show also has representation tbh??? i’ll talk more about it if anyone’s curious.

Glass (2019) [REVIEW]

I saw Unbreakable in theaters back in 2000 and instantly thought it was awesome, despite not being the horror movie I anticipated. I enjoyed Split even more, despite knowing the big reveal that the film was secretly a sequel to Unbreakable. In other words, I was stoked as hell to check out Glass, though I was also trepidatious given writer/director M. Night Shyamalan‘s 50/50 success rate. Having seen Glass, I can confirm that the film absolutely has some rad stuff in it, but it also completely squanders any potential it had been granted with Split and delivers an underwhelming conclusion to a series that kicked off nearly two decades ago.

David Dunn (Bruce Willis) discovered in Unbreakable that he was nearly invulnerable, as well as super strong, using his abilities to help those in need. He’s considered a “vigilante,” even if he manages to track down Kevin Crumb (James McAvoy) and rescue multiple girls that Crumb kidnapped in service of one of his many personalities, the supernaturally strong “The Beast.” Authorities don’t take too kindly to either activity, which gets them both locked into a mental institution with Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), who’s smart as hell but has goddamn bird bones. As you can imagine, the bad guys work together to figure out a way to break free to fight the good guy, and–blah, blah, blah, you got your movie.

The first act of this movie, up until Dunn and Beast are incarcerated, is quite good. It gives us everything we liked about Split, with a bonus David Dunn, getting our hopes up that the entire movie will also be, as they say, “good.” Boy oh boy, we are then in for a ride on the “Boring Express.” All of the actors are giving their best, with McAvoy delivering even more wacky characters than we got in Split. Willis and Jackson are both fine, while Sarah Paulson makes a welcome addition, if for no other reason than to break up Willis’ glowering and Jackson being rendered catatonic due to all the drugs his character has been given. Anya Taylor-Joy just kind of exists and could have easily been cut from the movie. In fact, most things in the movie will make you say, “Well, THIS thing could have been cut from the movie,” but there’s absolutely an entertaining 90 minutes in there!

The film’s biggest failure is that it feels like it was written by a kid who wanted to explore the idea of “What if superheroes were real?” back in, say, 1995, when Marvel Comics was on the brink of bankruptcy and he hoped to inspire audiences to look within ourselves to see what we’re capable of while also promoting the effectiveness of comic books as a medium. Now, take that script, put it in a time capsule, and open it up in 2018, and some things might feel a little…off. In addition to this script likely having references to Surge soda and Chumbawumba needle drops, all of the dialogue would feel incredibly pandering and redundant. In the 20 years since Unbreakable came out, few things have become more popular than comic books and superhero movies, but Glass seems oblivious to that. Had this film and/or Split come out in the mid-2000s, it would likely have been much more effective, as we hadn’t been given things like The Dark Knight, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Scott Pilgrim vs. the Universe, Sin City, Dredd, or dozens more comic book movie adaptations spanning all genres. In fact, we got a Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse a month ago, which explores themes of everyone having the power inside them to be a hero, which used Miles Morales as its Spider-Man because we have so many Spider-Man movies that we’re all goddamn sick of them. Tell that to the Surge-drinking Chumbawumba-listener in 1995 and he might tweak his script!

I’ve been saying for years (though no one cares to listen) that Shyamalan is an incredibly talented director and a mediocre writer. Rather, when he’s earned success, he runs out of people trying to control him, and he leans into countless self-serving ideas. Even The Happening, for example, has some powerful moments, yet the story itself is wonky as hell. The first act of Glass shows audiences what made Shyamalan such a phenom, thanks in large part to the actions of The Beast. Once the character is taken out of the darkness, he’s a shirtless man huffing and puffing like a maniac in less of a terrifying way and more of a “Wow this dude in the Panera parking lot is still really worked up from his Crossfit class” sort of way. It just doesn’t work, but it feels like no one was there to tell Shyamalan it didn’t work because, “Hey, you made Split! Great job, go nuts!”

As a standalone film, Glass is completely harmless. It’s not great, but there are still a lot of fun moments buried in there, with McAvoy being the highlight. As a sequel to Split, the film is somewhat frustrating and suffers from setbacks that countless sequels suffer by trying to go bigger and forgetting what actually makes the film work. As the conclusion to a trilogy that started 20 years ago, it’s too little, too late, reminding me of a film like Scream 4 by being totally serviceable, yet the anticipation of a “final chapter” overshadowing the film’s actual merits, or lack thereof. This trilogy of films, which is reportedly called the Eastrail #177 Trilogy because that’s the train David Dunn is on in Unbreakable, runs parallel to a trilogy like the X-Men films. The first chapter is better than it has any right to be, the second film is quite good, and the third film fails as both the conclusion of a trilogy and as a movie in it of itself, making you wonder how things could go so wrong so fast.

In other words, Glass ain’t great, but there’s no reason to get too upset about it, because Split is still available and that movie friggin’ rips.

my thing is that generally i don’t start writing until 6pm for warm-up/roleplay stuff and until 1am for book stuff. sometimes i dabble a lil bit beforehand but it’s like a loose schedule i have to really dedicate my attention on something

when it comes to books UMMM two... i spend a lot of time on the first draft so i can’t imagine even needing or wanting a second, really. the second draft is more to edit evreything and refine things but, again, since i (unfortunately) do that a lot during the first draft, it’s not much! but that’s what makes it so fun hehe

my scripts tho, ah.. i have one finished and the other nearly finished so, judging on the process it took to do those, generally at least three. and that’s because the first draft is literally me just vomiting out dialogue without any sort of prose, no narration, little to no stage directions, nothing. the second draft is when i make it all fancy, and any other drafts after are just part of that process in making it fancy

(like the completely finished script had 4 drafts and the third and fourth draft only differ because one is written in a more, uh... tumblr? way? and the other is in a more ‘proper’ script format)

23. Single or multi POV, and why?

depends on the story! out of my three main books rn i have two that are single and one that is multi and that’s all based on the cast of characters. the multi one has about 5 characters that i rly wanna focus on (maybe more!) while the single ones have two protags and one’s point of view is dedicated to describing the second. they’re both equally fun for me... (multi is RLY exciting tho)

i mean, i get told a lot that my prose is VERY poetic and that’s nice so there’s that. um i can’t get into poetry, i feel like there’s this structure behind poetry that is ENTIRELY imagined, like, i dont think it applies to anybody else but me, but i can’t make myself fit into whatever box i assume you need to make to make a poem a POEM so it’s not a comfy fit for me. the closest thing to poetry i write is just lil snippets for my suggestion blogs and even then that’s literally me taking one line or a few lines of my prose and handing it out

25. Linear or non-linear, and why?

I LOVE NON-LINEAR... it is very VERY hard for me to make a story that doesn’t, at some point, devolve into some sort of non-linear fashion because... it’s more fun... i rly like that quote about emotional logic i saw before. to me, there’s a very specific journey i want the character and the reader to go on and sometimes you can’t get there by going from beginning to end

i think it also just reflects the psych far more than a linear story does. human beings are CONSTANTLY ruminating over the past, learning from their mistakes, recovering from what’s happened to them... a lot of my stories are very heavily based on what trauma has happened to so-and-so character and how they cope with it so to me it’s necessary to literally go back and show what happened, because, to the character, it’s still happening and they’re still processing it and you don’t get that effect if i just start from the bad thing and go on. i think it’s far more immersive if the character exists as they are, acts as they would, and suddenly you’re brought back to know why, and by the time you’re in the present again, you understand about the character, and the character (the way i do it) has finally passed a hurdle that will put them ahead, and bring the reader with them into the future...!!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaa i love writing

26. Standalone or series, and why?

STANDALONE... i love that fuzzy-headed feeling when you finish one (1) good book and you put it down and it’s final. DONE. not to say that a series doesn’t have that same effect (um my poor ruined ass after reading the series i’ve read this past year) but i just love the idea of having something so compact and so precise and so confined in its one lil area of existing.

it’s also just... that a series requires a LOT of content!!!! i don’t like writing fluff haha i struggle with it a lot, i am VERY to the point so sometimes i just don’t even have enough material to make it to a series.

actually, a lot of it is because my characters are VERY focused on what’s happening to them, like. i tend to write emotional-driven stories, so maybe??? four MAJOR things happen, that’s four chapters, but then each chapter has like ten of the emotional fall out, the relationships and the way they break or form, the reactions to everything that’s happening. my one series has plot point after plot point happening but i still GOTTA write that reaction so... that’d either make for a VERY long book or i had to make it a series lol

also i just. this is more for me with movies but i don’t like sequels lol i have one story to tell and once that story is told it’s done. sometimes i entertain the thought of having a sequel to tsg but. i cant imagine ever writing it. my characters start at point A, they end at point B, there will never ever be a point C that will be as important for them to start another journey because that was IT. IT’S DONE.

X-MEN Because the X-Men have been around for so. so fucking long. theres like a billion series. so I'm just gonna tell you to skip "The Original X-Men era" and go straight to X-Men: First Class. FC is a series of standalones that follows the original X-Men. You're already familiar with the X-Men so you don't need to start at the start for characters anyway, but FC will help to establish these characters in the comics universe for you. It's from the mid 2000s I think. If you want stories that introduce extra characters like Gambit and explain stuff like The Phoenix, read Chris Clairemont's Uncanny X-Men series. It's from the 70s-90s, I think. Theres like a million issues but it's worth reading (and it helps to piss you off in regards to movie interpretation lol). Also I think Wolverine was introduced here. Go from the Uncanny X-Men to the New Mutants books from the 90s (i think from the 90s.) Like the title says, there's new mutants. lots of em. this is where Deadpool is from. (ill get back to that) From there, you might want to go into solo series of the actual X-Men. I don't know that much about the older ones...i really only know about a few wolverine books like Wolverines which is a more current one Astonishing X-Men is another really good book, I think from the mid 2000s. Unlike most other comics in that time period it wasnt a part of any fucking crossover events which makes it MUCH easier to read. Theyre launching X-Men Gold/Blue and a few solo series this year which I'd keep your eye out for too. ...I really dont know that much about the X-Men comics to recommend anything else, all I know is that there's A TONNE of books about the mutants being wiped out. it's like every second story. House of M is one of these I think???? it's pretty well regarded I'd read that...but it's part of the Civil War II storyline i think so you might be a bit lost. I hate american comics so much fdkjhdfjk DEADPOOL OKAY here's where we get into shit i know heaps about. hes only been around for 25 years so it makes it much easier to find books. but dont let this fool you. these books are evil. in the space of a quarter century the character has been fucked so hard by the writers im not even sure if he has a characterisation anymore. nobody can make up their mind on who he is. god its hard to follow New Mutants #95 (i THINK, you might wanna check the number) is his first introduction and it's part of the Deadpool v1 collection. I don't...love...v1, I don't think anyone does...but you sort of should read it. Start at this issue, even if you don't read the rest of the New Mutants, then read the Circle Chase and Sins of the Past miniseries (in that order). These books don't establish..much..in the way of character but they do help to explain other shit from this era. The movie is partially based on this version. Deadpool v2 is the first actual SERIES and definitely better than v1, although it's pretty big. I haven't read all that much of it but it's a nicer interpretation than v1's DP is. Skippable, though. The movie is also partially based on this. Cable & Deadpool is the first series I can properly recommend for establishment. The writers have realised Wade's character by this point and his relationship with Cable and the rest of the X-Force is set up in this book pretty well. It's actually a good read although it can be fucking confusing at times. I'm pretty sure it has ties to v1, not v2, though, which is why you should read v1. it also has ties, i believe, to the civil war event. i didn't have any trouble reading it although i didnt bother with the civil war event so idk v3 is one of the most beloved interpretations of the character. I don't like it personally but the art is nice and it introduces the boxes (the voices in his head) which is cool. If you like the humour in the game you'll like this, its written by the same person. It's not my style but people like it for a reason. If you don't want to read it you can get info on this version of him from the game and skip it. I haven't read that much past this in terms of major series, but I'd recommend series like The Mercs for Money off of what I've heard about them. X-Force is probably a good bet too, although it doesn't focus on him he's a reoccuring character. Overall I think the latest series, the current one (and the one before it) is the best one to read. It has a few spinoff books too, like Mrs Deadpool and the Howling Commandos, which arent required reading but are still pretty fun series. For mini series, read the three Deadpool Kills... books. I think the order is Deadpool Killustrated, Deadpool Kills...The Marvel Universe, and then Deadpool Kills...Deadpool. For the last one you might want to read the Prelude To/Deadpool Corps series (even though they aren't that good and the art is revolting in some places.) You can skip it but if you like the corps concept you'll probably not hate the books. Cable & Deadpool: Split Second Infinite is a book I've been MEANING to read that I also recommend from word of mouth. It came out last year I think? Not necessarily tied to the original series. Spiderman and Deadpool. Holy shit Spiderman and Deadpool is a fucking good book. Its been going for like a year now and there's filler issues sometimes but it's definitely a good read. Read Spiderman and Deadpool. You don't really need any info on these versions of the characters, you'll pick it up as you go along. AVENGERS full disclaimer. i am not well versed in the avengers. what i DO know, however, is that the avengers are really fucking different in the comics than in the mcu. the mcu lied to you. Same deal with the X-Men, don't bother with the original series. There's too fucking many of them. If you didn't know already though, the great majority of current avengers books are fucking tie in series with other shit like the fourteen hundred civil war events theres been. god i hate the civil war events. it makes reading them ridiculously hard. i'm gonna recommend the 2012 onwards avengers/new avengers series. they lead into, yet, another, event...but you're probably going to want to read the event that follows onto it as part of the deadpool canon anyway bc it was part of the series before the current one i think. who knows. comics are hard. the series is pretty dark so you'll probably enjoy it. just be warned its hard to read, don't start reading comics with these series. i cant really recommend any other ones bc i know so little about them im afraid SPIDERMAN spiderman is fucking popular. therefore there are actually a billion spiderman books. everyone loves spiderman. god i fucking dont because there are so many books. like so many. its ridiculous how many books there are. its pretty hard to pinpoint..where...to...start but im going to say, start at The Death of Gwen Stacy. its an earlier one, i believe, but it's pretty fucking paramount to everything spiderman. read the books written by todd mcfarlane. how many arre there? god i dont fucking know. mans a living legend. just read them read them all. Amazing Spiderman Vol 1-4. this is everything else paramount to everything spiderman. its about him and mj, aunt may learning that hes spidey and all that good stuff. good book. dont pass on this book. Marvel Knights Spiderman. not overly familiar with the whole series but its good super good characterisation. Superior Spiderman. a series i havent read personally but I'm pretty sure it sets up the whole current spidey and parker industries stuff. spoiler hes like a young tony stark now. i guess. and thats my awful guide on the things you asked for. id find reading guides on reddit and stuff for further information.

Oh my, what a month! September seemed to fly by and October felt like it just dragged by. Octobers a great month so I didn’t mind., but I’m looking at this list of 20 plus books and I’m just in disbelief at myself. Apparently, I didn’t do anything this month other than reading. Again, not a complaint, just disbelief.

I really enjoyed this, I wasn’t expecting the direction it went in and was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it.

Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

I was very disappointed by this, I found the story to be very slow paced and all the characters were just terrible. I also wasn’t shocked by the big plot twist that happened.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

The biggest issue I have with this is that nothing happened for the first 250 pages and then you got some semblance of an idea of what is going to happen. I also started to not like Darrow and I was hoping for a POV from Mustang but that didn’t happen.

The Two Towers by J.R.R Tolkien my rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

I loved this even though it took me so long to read, I just wasn’t in the mood for it for the longest time. I loved seeing more about the Ents and always wanted to see more of them in the movies. There was this hilarious line about the Ents wives that had me cracking up for so long, I can’t find the quote right now but it was that they put the Ent Wives somewhere and now they can’t find them, I was dying when I was reading it.

I actually really liked this, I enjoyed the story and how everything came together. Plus Poison Ivy makes an appearance and she is my favorite of all time, and I was very pleased with her portrayal.

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake my rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed this, I wasn’t blown away by this yet it was a fun twist. It’s not a retelling it’s just set in modern times. I wish there had been more gods introduced though.

Mortal Gods by Kendare Blake my rating 4 out of 5 stars

This one is probably the best in the trilogy, in my opinion anyways. I loved seeing Ares come in and the direction of the story was great.

I think the information discussed was very helpful, however, the delivery and the way the pages are set are incredibly overwhelming. I do think that this will be very helpful to refer to when writing but I don’t recommend as a sit-down and read.

Unfortunately, this was not my favorite Jane Austen book. I didn’t like a lot of the characters and had a hard time with the plot, it was very slow and seemed to drag on at points. I will be giving this a reread maybe next year, just to see if my feelings change.

I loved this so much and I am so sad that it seems to just be a standalone! The art in this is just gorgeous and I want to thank the artists for making Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn look like real women, not cartoon pin-ups.

Darth Vader Vol 1: Vader by Kieron Gillen My rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I loved this so much! The story has a bit to be desired but the art was so fun and just felt very accurate to star wars in a visual way. Darth Vader is one of my favorite fictional characters of all time.

I was so disappointed in this, it was a reread and while I love the artwork I hated the storyline, I’m not sure if I’m going to continue with the series.

I love new adult romances that have musicians and artists and this romance between an artist and his muse was delightful. I feel head over heels for both David and Yara, well more for Yaras lifestyle. I liked her nomadic and mysterious ways. I was very annoyed by everyone’s lack of communication though.

Daughter of The Burning City by Amanda Foody my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

This was very slow at first but the descriptions of the world kept me feeling intrigued to learn more and the mystery slowly started to envelop me. This kept me guessing and it didn’t go in the direction I thought it was going to go, which is good, it wasn’t as predictable as I thought it would be.

Little Monsters  by Kara Thomas my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this, I found myself absorbed into the story right away and I would sit down and just fly through 80 pages. There were thriller tropes that I don’t love especially the spotlight effect, I don’t usually care for that one. It just doesn’t seem realistic to me and in this case, everything was circumstantial at best.

Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman my rating: 3 out of 5 stars

I’ve got some mixed feelings about this, on its own it was fine, but Goodreads says that this is an installation in a series with American Gods and I just don’t see where any kind of connection is, it feels like a standalone novel and one of the characters makes an appearance in American Gods. Aside from all that, the story was fine, the plot points were all tied together nicely enough, the characters were great, it was just lacking something to set it apart from other books with similar tropes.

Hocus Pocus by A.W. Jantha my rating: 2 out of 5 stars

This book is divided into two parts. Part one is a novelization of the movie and I think it translated well enough, it was basically a play by play of the movie and I did enjoy it. But then. Then we come to the sequel and the trainwreck that follows. It started off well enough but I did have some issues with the timeline and how Max and Alison were able to graduate, go to college, get their law degree, get certified to teach and have a 16-year-old daughter in 25 years, just seems to be cutting it close to me. It was also incredibly cheesy and it didn’t need to be that way. I also had some issues with the narration, there was a lot of “this character walked up to the door and they opened the door and walked through the door” Everything was spelled out and could have been massively improved with a few rewrites.

I am so proud of myself for reading this, it didn’t scare me as much as I thought it would, there were moments where I had to set the book down and just take a minute or two. These characters were so fleshed out and felt so real along with the town, it feels like I could pack up and move to Derry it feels that real.

Shattered Blue by  Lauren Bird Horowitz my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I enjoyed this well enough while listening to the audiobook but thinking back on it, I feel underwhelmed by it overall. Everything just felt average, I did love the play on colored Fae, that was a fun twist and there was not enough poetry throughout the story.

The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux my rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I really liked this, I actually went into this thinking it was a reread but I dont think I’ve read this before! I enjoyed the writing style, there was this kind of investigation feel that gave the book a crime drama feel to it. There are moments of frustration but overall I thought it was pretty good.

Quite a “meh” reading month for me, a lot of 3 stars, a few 4s and more 2 star reads then I was expecting.
