Shapeshifter Jaskier seeing one of his colleagues start to grey and being like, "Right, aging."
He then spends the winter subtly incorporating signs of aging into his appearance. He looks rather dashing if he says so himself.
But, when he and Geralt meet up in Spring, the witcher becomes *devastated* at the sight of his "aging" bard.
Geralt brushed Jaskier’s hair back with a careful touch. “You’ve got another grey,” he murmured, his voice laced with something close to regret.
“I know. Soon, I’ll match you,” Jaskier said lightly. “I’d call myself the White Bard, but it doesn’t have quite the same ring as the White Wolf.”
Geralt huffed. “Dove,” he said after a pause. “That’s what we’ll call you when your hair turns completely white.”
Jaskier’s smile was soft. “I like it.”
Geralt didn’t say what was truly on his mind—that he didn’t like Jaskier’s hair greying, didn’t like this reminder that time would eventually take him away.
Jaskier exhaled, as if reading his silence. “I don’t like it either,” he admitted. “But if I want to keep up the illusion of being human, I have to age.” He tilted his head, eyes twinkling. “Give me another fifty years, and I can always return to being young again.”
Geralt just stared, his thoughts scattering like dry leaves in the wind.

Ooooh, L.T.! Made ya’ some sugar cookies last night while I was waiting to be tired.. again. They aren’t anythin’ fancy, but they’re damn good in my opinion. They’re chillin’ in the common room’s microwave, and there’s also some diet Dr. Pepper that you can take if ya’ want.
@shadow-2-08
Parce, you're going to have to stop - you're screwing up my diet with all these treats! Eh, I'm just kidding - please never stop. You're a damn artist in the kitchen.
Been meaning to check, are you okay with hugs?
Freya's been trying to get better at boundaries. She's... She's getting there.

I’ll always wish we had more of Henrik in TVD and TO. His death was such a pivotal event for the Mikaelson family—so devastating that it drove their parents to perform the ritual that turned them into the first vampires. That single moment shaped everything about their lives, yet it feels like Henrik has been completely erased from their story.
The most baffling part is that no one ever talks about him. Ever. It’s like he’s a taboo subject, which makes no sense considering how much his death impacted them all, especially Klaus. When I first watched TVD, I was surprised by the lack of mention, though I understood—there was already so much happening. But then in TO ? Still nothing. Not a word about who Henrik was, what he was like, or even the memories they might have had of him. It’s as if he never existed, which is wild considering he’s the reason their lives turned out the way they did.
Klaus, of all people, should’ve talked about him. His death was a huge part of Klaus’s trauma, yet during his therapy sessions with Cami, it’s never brought up. Why? That would’ve been such a natural and emotional moment to explore, but it’s just ignored. Worse, I don’t even think Hope knows about Henrik, her uncle. How does that make sense? This isn’t just a missed opportunity—it’s bad writing. Henrik was the catalyst for their transformation into vampires and everything that followed, yet the show treats him like an afterthought.
Even Freya, who wasn’t there when Henrik died, might not know about him. Maybe Elijah or Rebekah told her off-screen, but we’re never shown that. There’s so much lost potential here. They could’ve done so much with Henrik, even if it was just through memories or flashbacks. Maybe they could’ve brought him back somehow. Idk, but it would’ve been so interesting… :/
It’s frustrating because his death is such a fundamental part of their mythology, yet the show seems to forget about it entirely. Henrik deserved more than just being the unnamed tragedy that changed everything. It bugs me to no end that the writers didn’t explore this.
I see both sides of this.
To us, the audience, it is a pivotal piece of the Mikaelsons lore, but to them, it happened over 1,000 years ago. They've lived ten lifetimes since they lost their kid brother. They mention him when they mention their childhood, but they don't talk about that a lot. I can imagine they probably don't remember a lot of it. Not only was it a long time ago, but it was a childhood filled with trauma. Children who experience abuse often have times remembering their childhood. We know they do remember parts of it and remember Henrik, but it's likely difficult to recall a lot of it. It's also still painful to think back to that time. They were the happiest when they were human and then they lost their brother and their humanity one after the other.
I also think Klaus would be the least likely to bring up Henrik out of all of his siblings. Especially in "therapy." He never used his sessions with Cami as therapy, rather "writing his memoir." He framed himself in a way that he was always in the right. Even when he discussed his terrible crimes, he had excuses. But his actions with Henrik, he is why Henrik was killed. I'm not blaming him. He was young and made a mistake, but he can't spin that. Talking about Henrik's death would make him the reason the next 1,000 years happened. He can't blame Esther and Mikael for binding his werewolf side, he can't blame Elijah for compelling Aurora, he can't blame Mikael for hunting them. It was his actions that started the domino effect that led him to become the monster he tries to pretend he didn't create.
I think it's natural for the writers to not focus on Henrik since it wouldn't add to the story. We already got enough of the lore to understand the impact Henrik had on the family, the show wasn't going to waste time talking about him, even if it would feel organic for the family to talk about him.
I could see Elijah struggling to talk about him because he felt responsible. He likely felt he should have made sure Henrik and Klaus were safe before the full moon. I think it would be hard because he likely helped raise Henrik. He was old enough to remember Henrik's whole life. I hc, that Henrik was the closest thing to a son Elijah ever got. Elijah also struggles to talk about emotional topics. He wouldn't bring up the topic unless prompted.
Rebekah I could see talking about him. Especially to Freya. I would think Freya would ask her siblings about their lives and Rebekah would make sure to tell her about Henrik. Kol may add a story or two but he wasn't one to dwell on the past. Or to sit down and share family stories.
The fandom really likes the idea of Henrik and where the story could have gone, but I understand why the writers didn't go any deeper. It didn't add anything to the plot. Unless they were going to bring him back somehow, we didn't need to know more. I wish we had a lot more of their childhood, and just flashbacks in general, but the show only had so much time.
I wouldn't want them to bring Henrik back because I think it would be clunky. He would be a child and that would just be a mess. I like to think he was at peace that whole time and not stuck in some other plane for a thousand years. He was just a kid, he deserved to rest.
Thanks for the ask!

Idk if you recall but I got it somewhat done, the reason why I took so long is because my phone broke and i lost it - I got it back but the quality isn’t the best but I’ll be working on it! This is how it is for now,,

I’ll be fixing a lot and clearing things up thoo! Sorry for the ramble 😭🌸✨🌸
hope you’re doing good these days, too!
I do remember, dw! And also, this is literally so beautiful?? I’ve been trying to figure out how to respond to this all day because I’m absolutely blown away by your dedication and talent. Everything about this is so considerate and beautiful, I cannot get over it. I adore all the outfits you put S/I into and all the pretty blues in the piece 😭♥️♥️ blue is my favourite colour too so you bet I’m over the moon, haha. I especially love her outfit in the middle — the shoulder-less dress and draping pearl details look so delicate. And Byakuya looks so handsome here, hehe <3
Thank you so very much for putting this together, you’re an angel, truly.

I just realized that Geralt in fics being like, "Sorry I was an asshole. I know you can't forgive me, but what about *Ciri*?" is him babytrapping Jaskier.
“What about Ciri?”
Jaskier stared at him, mouth parting in disbelief.
“Are you seriously doing this right now?”
“She needs you,” Geralt said, voice low. “She’s got power. She’s stubborn. She sings your songs when she thinks no one’s listening.”
“That doesn’t mean I’m her father!”
“You're not,” Geralt said. “But she loves you like one. And… I think you love her back. Even if you don’t want to love me anymore.”
Jaskier stood up so fast the chair scraped back hard.
“This—this is manipulation, Geralt. You disappear for months, break my heart, and come crawling back not because you regret it, not because you want me, but because you want your child to have two parents?”
“No,” Geralt said quickly, standing too. “I came back because I regretted it the moment I left. I came back because I want you. But I brought Ciri because… I knew you wouldn’t believe me.”
“You’re damn right I don’t,” Jaskier snapped. “You thought bringing the girl would be your golden ticket? What is this, babytrapping now?”
Geralt winced. “Not like that. Gods, not like that. I just… I thought if you couldn’t forgive me, maybe you’d still stay. For her. And then maybe—just maybe—you’d see I’m not the same man I was when I pushed you away.”
Jaskier’s face was unreadable.
Then, from the stairwell, a small voice called: “Jaskier?”
They both turned. Ciri stood in oversized sleep clothes, a book tucked under one arm.
“Can you sing me that song again?” she asked. “The one about the basilisk that wasn’t really a basilisk?”
Jaskier’s shoulders sank. His jaw clenched. He looked from her, to Geralt, then back again.
“…Yeah,” he said finally. “Yeah, I can

*scratches at your writing itch more* c’mon give us more about your writing give us that good ol’ fashioned yapping

LETS FREAKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Ahem.
So if you are a tag reader and have existed on my blog for an extended period of time, then you may recall me mentioning that I really should go on a rant about Loki. Multiple times even. And there is a good reason for that— she is one of the most interesting characters to analyze and write for in feh.
That might seem like an odd claim, but you must remember that your reliable narrator finds immense joy in writing for Kiran fire emblem. Kiran is fun for a few reasons, but the work loop is what really sells it. There is a character beyond the self insert, but it must be found and then extrapolated back. Detective work goes into their analysis and then more free form creativity is employed to inflict that personality back onto the narrative. Loki provides a similar experience. She’s an almost equally blank slate. Harsh comparison considering Kiran is a non entity of a self insert, but true nonetheless. Currently, as of the very start of book 9, Loki is not much of a character. I hope to be proven wrong in the near future, but right now that is the case.
The issue can most easily be broken down into one core question: what does Loki want? No, seriously, what does she want? She’s the only reoccurring character in which we have no idea about anything that drives her. You might argue that this is supposed to be part of her mystique, but then I’d argue that you don’t understand what builds mystique. You know who also had mystique? Líf and Thrasir, Læraðor and the Healing Hands, Gullvieg, and about every other antagonistic force whose full motives were not initially clear. Just because we did not know the full extent of what drove them, did not mean that we didn’t get a sense of something they wanted. The most common thing these antagonists want is to kill our heroes, which is why conflict arises in the first place.
What does Loki want in comparison? To cause Chaos™️? That is a cop-out in the same way writing Harley Quinn as just a crazy random lady is. It is an excuse to not write a consistent character and just hoping that surface level aesthetics will carry everything on its emancipated shoulders. To what end does Loki want to cause chaos? For what reasons? What could possibly stand in her way? What conflict could arise from that? Every other character has straight forward answers to these basic questions, but even after 8 seasons of this narrative, we still don’t have anything for this lady. And that’s a blatant flaw of FEH. Which is a shame, because as I was digging to find ways to fill the gaps, some genuinely interesting ideas came up.
This starts with the FEH’s pantheon. It is a vital part of the narrative’s themes of loneliness, isolation, and connection. Being the villains 80% of the time, they are often a pure distillation of the long term effects of isolation. Hel is a fascinating introduction to this idea that gains more intrigue in retrospect. Unlike every divine encounter after her, she is the sole god we meet in book 3. It’s an unspoken rule, but they typically arise in contrasting pairs. Askr and Embla, Nifl and Múspell, Freyr and Freya, etc. It is revealed that Hel was not an exception to this rule, but had successfully killed her equal and opposite of Ymir long before she ever set foot in Askr. With no one left to naturally counter her, she’s been fueling her endless need for more power free of natural consequence. Without life, death has gone utterly power mad. Upon her throne of corpses, she is entirely isolated and free to view every breathing being as lesser. To really drive this home, they reveal that her only connection to a living thing, Eir, to be a lie. She is a need for power, left by itself to rot.
Then we have the siblings Freyr and Freya, who were implied to be the weird black sheep of the pantheon and thus only had each other. Freyr is notedly one of the few non antagonistic gods and this correlates with his apparent social life. He talks to people! Regularly! According to Peony, anytime anyone has any issue in the realm of dreams, they go to him. He has taken the time to build a community and make himself the beating heart of it. He’s getting some god damn therapy. Good for him! Freya has unfortunately done no such thing and hasn’t moved on from the harm inflicted upon them in the past. She has power, beauty, and fame, but Freyr is still the only person she has. But now, the reverse is no longer true and he’s pulling further away. This nags at the long standing wound of never being accepted and Freya sees this as rejection from the one person in this horrible cruel world who wasn’t supposed to do that to her. Everything goes to hell from there. This need for acceptance is left by itself to rot.
Now, this was supposed to be a discussion of Loki, no? Why bring this up? Well, it’s because she’s an oddity. Hel, Freya, and Freyr generally define the types of gods we see from this point onwards. We either got isolated and rocking it (Hel, Múspell), isolated and crying in the club (Freya, Gullveig, Nifl), or finally getting some god damn therapy for the isolation but ultimately not being able to fully escape it in time (Freyr, Askr). Loki is not quite any of these things. And as I was trying to rationalize why there was an exception to this theme I found, it dawned on me— it’s not that she isn’t any of these things, it’s that she’s on the verge of becoming one of them. What makes Loki unique among the pantheon is that she’s the only god we see meeting and connecting with people throughout the narrative. That’s the point. Nothing has begun to rot yet. Her powers are shapeshifting and pretending to be a person, because she’s actually on the verge of potentially becoming one.
Let’s use her dynamic with Veronica as an example. Loki genuinely likes Veronica. She finds the girl silly and cute. However, she had alterer motives from the moment they met, as she was still working for Surtr at the time and befriended the young princess so that she could be ultimately sacrificed to the rite of flames. And even outside of that, she needed her help to begin the Tempest. It was a lie from the start, and yet, Loki gives our protagonists an opening to save her. That’s fascinating. She does not value Veronica’s life or wellbeing above her schemes, but she likes her enough to actively go out of her way to give her a chance. If I didn’t know any better, that’s a fascinating set up for a long term character conflict. Loki, the chaotic trickster god plotting to bring change and ruin, vs Loki, a quirky shapeshifter lady teaching Princess Veronica funny little tricks like how to heal paper cuts and not lose her breakfast when quickly dimension hoping to the realm of the dead.
That’s so god damn fun and is a version of the character that would bring so much life to the narrative. But it’s not really what we got and might not be what we ultimately get either. And that’s okay, I’m pretty down for whatever they choose to do. But until then, Your Honor, hit that trickster god with an identity crisis. Hit her with the silly beam. Let the two tacticians hang out and be kinda toxic besties. What could go wrong? Oh, there’s a character named Baldur? Surely this won’t result in a chain of events that culminates in the end of the world.
#It’s finally here!!! The Loki Ted Talk!!!#been sitting on this one for a while#Thought about not releasing it until we got further into book 9 but then decided nah. hello!! i saw the tags on your pinned post abt how shoujo wasn't just romance and it got me curious bc i've read some nice shoujo but really dislike romance-heavy plots. are there any shoujos you like that don't have much or any romance in them? ty and i hope you have a good day! 💛
Oh, there are lots of mangas that are classified as shoujo and don't have romance!!
I am just now beginning my journey through shoujo as well, so I don't have a lot of recommendations for stuff I actually read, but the ones I did read or watch so far are:
Natsume Yuujinchou and basically anything else by its author, Yuki Midorikawa. Sometimes, her works do include romance, but the focus is almost always in the interpersonal relationships and the difficulties her characters go through in life. NatsuYuu is about an orphan boy who can see yokai, and for that reason he acts in "weird" ways and his foster families dislike him, so he keeps going from family to family. The story is about how he finds a good family who accepts and loves him, makes friends, and learns to make friends even with yokais.
There are currently 6 anime seasons out, and a 7th season is on its way, so you can either read the manga or watch the anime.
Akatsuki no Yona - i mean, this one does include romance, but i'll still put it on the list because as far as the anime went the focus is heavy on Yona's actual journey to gather the dragons of legend to be able to recover the kingdom that was stolen from her. It shows how Yona goes from a sheltered spoiled girl to a person befitting the title of dragon king.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom - this one is the og villainess isekai and it truly deserves the hype. It is about a girl who wakes up in the child body of the villainess of her favorite otome game. She remembers that the villainess' fate in the game was always either death or exile, so she tries her hardest to change her fate. This one is classified as a reverse harem, but the main character is pretty oblivious and worries more about farming and eating sweets and generally being the best girl ever than actually worrying about romance. Aro ace queen tbh. And her harem is just happy to be with her and be dragged along for her stupid adventures. Plus, the female members of her harem are taken seriously as well, Mary is a raging lesbian and it is not subtext. I mean, it is a shoujo, so of course the female characters would be important lol.
Usagi Drop - listen to me. You will absolutely not look for anything related to this manga. If you like the premise you can watch the anime. But, please, do not look for the manga. You will only be extremely disappointed by it. That being said, I recommend the anime. It is about a man who returns home for his grandfather's funeral and then finds out his grandfather had an illegitimate daughter who has now become an orphan. He ends up having to take care of her because the rest of the family considers her a shame to the family.
Now, for the stuff I havent seen yet, I'll just write some that are on my "plan to read" list and put their genres next to their names so you can check it out if you think the genre's sound interesting:
7 Seeds (drama, horror, psychological, sci fi, survival)
Requiem of the Rose King (drama, historical, supernatural, gender identity)
Basara (drama, fantasy, adventure) (i think this one has romance, but from what i've heard, the main character's story is a lot deeper as she takes her brother's identity in order to fight against the king who killed her brother, it is pretty famous and considered a classic)
Ghost Hunt (horror, mystery, psychological, supernatural)
Helter Skelter (horror, psychological)
My Stepmother and Stepsisters aren't Wicked (comedy, historical, slice of life)
Ikoku Nikki (drama) (this one is the one i'm currently most interested on, i hear it's about a distant woman who's never had a good relationship with her sister and now has to take care of her teenage niece because her sister died)
Itsuwari no Freya (crossdressing, historical)
Limit (drama, psychological, school) (this one sounds incredible tbh, on a field trip their bus gets into an accident and only 5 girls remain, having to learn to survive and trying to assert themselves over one another because they hate each other.)
Machida-kun no sekai (school)
Mitarai-ke, Enjou suru (drama) (the main character wants to infiltrate the household of the family who blamed her mother for a fire, in order to prove her mother's innocence)
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You (comedy)
Uramichi Oniisan (comedy, showbiz, workplace)
Usotoki Rhetoric (mystery, historical)
Don't Call It Mystery (mystery)
If anyone has more things to recommend I would also love to hear about it!!
#this list includes both josei and shoujo because in my lists i just put them together#answered#natsume yuujinchou#my next life as a villainess#akatsuki no yona#usagi drop#7 seeds#requiem of the rose king#basara#ghost hunt#helter skelter#my stepmother and stepsisters arent wicked#ikoku nikki#itsuwari no freya#limit#machida kun no sekai#mitarai ke enjou suru#smoking behind the supermarket with you#uramichi oniisan#usotoki rhetoric#don't call it mystery#anime recommendation#manga recommendation#shoujo#josei#shoujosei#axel
