stormbringers fucking insane for using rimlaine as a contrast to skk. these two couldnt trust each other fully and rimbaud only believed he could help verlaine feel human, not truly be so, and still considered him Other, however much he believed them to be equals, verlaines humanity only existed in rimbauds eyes because he gave it to him. verlaines inability to accept his own humanity or even really that rimbauds feelings for him were genuine because he, alone, singular, monstrously set apart from humanity, should be incapable of receiving anything resembling affection or genuine understanding, such that it left him betraying his partner. and then they cannot exist as two beings working seamlessly together. rimbaud and verlaine in fact cannot exist as two beings at all, only as one conjoined entity. verlaine kept alive with rimbauds skill, and rimbaud, long dead and refusing that reality until he can find his partner, existing only as an extension of verlaine. while skk who do trust each other blindly, who do see humanity in each other enough to look past when they doubt it in themselves, who see humanity not as a defined be or be not, but as a set of values, as a do or do not. they are able to exist as one act in two parts. interdependent, always, even down to their skills, but still functioning as one unit in two separate cogs made to fit together.

There's something increadibly twisted about Dazai saying "certainly" with this much conviction, when he himself was struggling to find a reason to live in the Port Mafia.

Even worse when you remember that he'd declared his desire to watch the mafia burn in Stormbringer. Simply because he was bored of it all. Killing, death, schemes. All of it was the same. Everything became mundane.

Dazai never found any meaning in living in the Port Mafia, but here he is, promising Akutagawa the one thing he never got ahold of. Guaranteeing that Akutagawa would find it.

And the funny thing is, he did.

Dazai, in the end, did give Akutagawa a reason to live. But here's the catch: It's primarily tied to him. Not to the mafia, not to some high-end goal related to Akutagawa as a person, but to the suicidal executive.

And it makes sense, in hindsight.

Despite Dazai's visible efforts to make Akutagawa use his head more than his ability, he's the one (whether intentionally or unintentionally) who molded Akutagawa into this person, hungry for validation from his senior more than anything. And how you look at it (Dazai's intentions) determines if it was either a plan doomed from the start, or a perfectly calculated one.

Akutagawa would never want to seek more than what he was taught to seek. Would never stop being Dazai's lapdog. Would never grow a conscience that defines him, shape him into his own person. Would never hope for more than the Port Mafia, being Dazai's shadow.

In turn, Dazai would never need to worry about Akutagawa's intentions, only his executions. Something far easier to discipline someone over.

From the very beginning, Akutagawa was a wild card Dazai needed to moderate. So he made his approval all he should seek. He made him strive for nothing more.

He made Dazai all Akutagawa is.

And once he fulfills his wish to end his life, Akutagawa will be gone as well.

What would happen if dazai touched bram? Like is he closer to what lovecraft is? Would it actually cancel the vampire ability? Would bram himself stop being a vampire? When did brams ability even form? Was he turned by something or did he grow up and his ability manifested one day? Was he just a vampire who could age until he stopped? Asagiri also briefly mentioned werewolves once and then never brought it up again, wtf was up with that? Could that imply that on some level omegaverse exists in the bsd universe? I have so many questions

My unpopular opinion about this character

uhhhh what are the popular opinions rn...? i think i used to see lots of people HATE ango for being a traitor and such. until i saw a popular cosplay tiktoker in love with him and everyone else started to love him too

anyways uhhh i think ango is very good grey character which ends up being a problem in fandom alas 😔 but i really appreciate it. much needed presence.

i think. i think itd be cool to see more ango and the rest of the special division in depth more often. the tripartite aint complete... who are angos coworkers and work partners and such. does he have a work wife

bsd fic authors i understand yalls pain SO well right now why is it so fucking HARD to write dazai. like i have a whole fucking spreadsheet dedicated to tireless analysis i have done on my part so i can accurately characterize him but he is such an unpredictable and morally gray character that it's hard knowing his limits and boundaries and where he draws the line for himself.

he ate dog food once to assert dominance in front of an actual dog. the whole interaction covers four full pages.

i like the guild a lot actually!! i’ll give a brief opinion on the members!

francis: i didn’t like him during the guild arc but anything after that has been great. the fitzgerald rising chapter/episode really made me love him

(maybe it’s just me being a bit of a capcom nerd but was this an ace attorney reference? the positioning and font makes me think it’s a tribute to phoenix wright)

mark: i just like him. his design is cool and his ability is sick!!

john: i actually can’t wait to see him again. i really really hope they touch on his reformed guild bit soon. him vs fitzgerald maybe to form the group? his ability is great and i love his "new" design. the more i think about him the more i like him. cool guy.

nathaniel: i love his design and his ability is cool but he annoys me a lot as a character sorry </3

poe: LOVE HIM!!! he used to be a top 5 character for me but i still adore him. he’s silly and i love his design and karl is awesome. really fun ability as well

lovecraft: i think he’s neat. id like to know more about him. i seen a theory that said he was a cthulhu-type that can turn into a human, but stormbringer i believe states that only humans can develop abilities, so wtf is lovecraft? maybe he was some sort of creation? idk

james: i wouldn’t even blame you if you didn’t know who this guy was. certified background character. he has like maybe two lines maximum. he may be the first bsd character that has zero fans. i’ll be his first fan. hi james from bsd. ur alright. he was given a name so hopefully he at least makes some sort of reappearance. update: nevermind i looked him up and he’s the guy the mafia killed after the whole anne’s room thing. i thought it was some random guy. he’s so nothing i forgot he died. sorry man

herman: he’s kind of handsome. a nobal man but i have nothing more to say. idk exactly what his ability is though (except that it’s a whale) so more clarification on that would be nice

margaret: yeah honestly nothing to say. she seems nice from now francis spoke of her. and her and nathanial are a funny duo but on their own i don’t really care much about either tbh

one thing that has annoyed me a lot lately is this picture of the guild from the anime:

characters in order from left to right: ??, herman, james, margaret, nathaniel, francis, louisa, john, lucy, mark, lovecraft , ??

my issue with that photo is that neither of the "??" characters look like poe. the one sitting on the far left kind of looks like another version of francis, but why would he be there twice? and where’s poe? and who’s the other guy on the far right? he kind of looks like atsushi but i don’t see why he would be there.

sorry that photo bothers me a ton, i’d like to know who the ?? people are.

anyways overall i like the guild a lot. i hope francis’s new guild and john’s reformed guild combat. i hope we get to see the characters more!
