bsd fic authors i understand yalls pain SO well right now why is it so fucking HARD to write dazai. like i have a whole fucking spreadsheet dedicated to tireless analysis i have done on my part so i can accurately characterize him but he is such an unpredictable and morally gray character that it's hard knowing his limits and boundaries and where he draws the line for himself.

i have spilled so much ink about gawyn but really i only need 2 passages to explain why he is Like That
1. My blood shed before hers; my life given before hers...That was the oath he had taken when barely tall enough to peer into Elayne's cradle. ... Gareth Bryne had had to explain to him what it meant, but even then he had known he had to keep that oath if he failed at everything else in his life. (LOC prologue)
2. From Morgase, Queen of Andor, to her beloved son, Gawyn. May he be a living sword for his sister and Andor. (ACOS prologue)
like yeah, no wonder he does what he does in AMOL. people will be like "gawyn is so stupid for not thinking about the fact that his death would hurt egwene" as if he's being maliciously stupid and careless, when in fact, he has such little self-worth that he genuinely does not consider himself a valuable human being whose loss would impact anyone or anything. his life given before hers. a living sword. this has been his mindset since toddlerhood and nobody ever noticed it enough to try and counteract it. gawyn is exactly what rand would have been like at the last battle if he hadn't had a mental health intervention.

broke: jodie gets caught in the black sun explosion. she loses her tether to aiden and gradually gets amnesia as her memories get all jumbled up.
woke: jodie comes back to life.... but not quite the same as she left it. she's a walking, talking, (occasionally) breathing liminal space.
the black sun swallowed her in and she walked back out.
now more than they were in their first life, she's the bridge between the living world and what's beyond it. the entities don't go away; they still come, because she is young compared to them and still has enough life in her for them to want to take.
sometimes her hair shimmers and ripples like an inky shadow. other times her shadow seems a little bit too big, or mismatched with the shape of her body as if it belongs to something else.
stan and the others, if they see (and they do, they have seen her control slip every once in a while) pay it little mind. it doesn't matter that sometimes she seems to speak in too many voices, all layered over one another. it doesn't matter that sometimes her smiles have too many sharp edges. it doesn't matter that one time, seemingly out of nowhere, she tells tuesday that her happiness tastes sweet, like strawberries.
she is still jodie. jodie came back to them. and that's the only part that matters.

i do think the reason michael and adam work so well together is because there is no fear whatsoever in their relationship. like there have been so many instances in supernatural where we see a pair of characters arguing and one of them is flinching back from the other when a voice gets raised and and with michael and adam you just don't see that. michael raises his voice at adam for all of one second and adam does nothing except sigh. like he has such absolute trust that michael will not hurt him no matter what and michael honors that trust even though he is an archangel and hurting something as small as adam would be very very very easy. and adam reciprocates in his own way! in a show that has like three hundred plotlines about someone keeping a secret from someone else michael lays literally all of his feelings out in the open in front of adam and trusts him not to use it against him or judge him for it or whatever else. and adam doesn't! it's very fascinating to me because it's fucking supernatural of all shows that's presenting this type of relationship. they very much took adam and michael and went this is what a healthy relationship looks like: there is no fear in it. there is no fear of being hurt and there is no fear of being open. and because of that lack of fear a line of communication is established and they can speak freely around each other. there are a lot of jokes about how michael and adam have the healthiest relationship on this show but quite literally i think michael and adam do have the healthiest relationship on this show

I'm feeling absolutely bonkers rn so I wanna talk about music again because I'm crazy about the OST of this game so!!!! Here I go!
I've been thinking about Raiden and Wanderer's themes a lot and I love how they contrast - so, you have Raiden, who like. Her theme starts OFF strong and triumphant you have the horns you got the drums and everything is crescendoing and you feel it in your soul and your bones and then it drops and it's more muted but then by the middle of the song it crescendos again like thunder do you feel me it's about insane power all at once and then it's gone and it builds and builds and builds again and that's the cycle!!!
Whereas with Wanderer it starts off gentle and slow but there's a steady beat that only gets stronger as the song progresses and unlike Raiden who starts off virtually capturing your soul with the baseline this song steadily keeps on moving and building and building it's like a gentle hand that gently takes yours and begins to walk with you and gradually gets faster and faster until you both are virtually on the wings of the angels, running as fast as you can possibly go!!! Power showcased in completely different ways and I love love love them both Raiden is like power just. In who she is you LOOK at her and you know she'll mess you UP but in Wanderer's case he's like. A wild card who seems unassuming but is extremely dangerous if not taken seriously it's like dormant. Dormant power. Do you feel me.
AUGHHH I LOVE THIS GAME'S SOUNDTRACK IT'S SO GOOD IT MAKES ME WANNA CRY PLEASE TALK. TALK TO ME ABOUT IT .

okay i'm thinking about courtier-drifter again. i was reminiscing last night about the possibility (i won't say it's implied by canon but it's definitely a possibility) of the drifter as we see them just being a figment of kid-drifter's imagination, in the same way that duviri is. a kid who is completely fucking terrified and alone with nobody to help them is going to resort to escapism to cope with what's happening. if you've ever been a traumatized kid you know this. we see this with the drifter's creation of duviri.
but we know that not everyone in duviri was necessarily written into tales of duviri, the book. the warden seems to have been brought into existence by kullervo's memories of ballas. the drifter even puts themself into duviri. we see, in the drifter at present, this older, stronger version of themself, apparently unaging (remember how confused acrithis is by teshin aging? shouldn't she have seen that before with the drifter?), inexplicably skilled in combat (where exactly did the drifter learn to fight with all those weapons in teshin's cave, when they've apparently just been scurrying around with a gun since duviri came into existence?)
couldn't the drifter, as a kid, have made up someone who might've been able to save them, and their friends & family, from the zariman incident? someone who would show up mysteriously in the darkest hour to make things right when all hope is apparently lost -- as was the case in tnw? we know from tnw that the "canon" tenno is supposed to be heroic to the point of self-sacrificing. maybe that's still the case even in timelines where wally didn't show up and offer to save the other zariman kids. maybe kid-drifter wished that they could've been that hero they got to be in another time, the one who had the power to save their friends from the horrors of the zariman.
maybe that self-sacrificing nature they have is so strong it becomes its own entity. maybe the hero they wished they'd been, the hero they wished they'd had, comes to life in duviri. maybe the hero takes their designation to a terrifying extreme, refusing all help that's offered to them to the point of self-destruction, because they're The Hero and they don't NEED help. maybe finally accepting help from teshin is what helps them stop being just a figment of a long-lost child's imagination and start being a Person.
i'm thinking about my drifter not actually being the kid we saw on the zariman, but their mary stu semi-self-insert oc (do not steal), is what i'm saying

mused on some thesis about how billions uses Indignity to illustrate that something someone does has failed / gone wrong in one way or another, and how the way this punishment is an Emotional one means that it can't land if the character just doesn't Feel that punished by it, or at least doesn't like attribute the supposed failure to something inherent enough to them to particularly stew on it, see for example people heightening/escalating their efforts to embarass someone if even that person doesn't Seem to sufficiently externally react in embarassment. winston able to truck along while (a) consciously crafting or maintaining some persona, of eternal and irrefutable dignity or whatever else is associated with "merit"/status, isn't much of a priority, when to him his skills speak for themself even though to others this is about their own merit in recognizing independently if winston's skills Happen to have use, and putting him down if he tries to speak to that anyways, and (b) he's also just able to move along from L's handed to him, whether he thinks it was warranted (like that he'll accept it doesn't count if he only thought it but didn't say it) or not (why can't you count to loyalty), when even if this resilience To How Others Treat Him isn't exactly peak realistic, that he thinks of himself in such a way that he doesn't need to be striving for some paramount official status, or think he's defined by never failing or indeed never possibly able to be seen within a "wow undignified / embarassing" framework so long as this winningness is recognized, or so long as anything is anything, is sure feasible enough.
but anyways thought about it like this thesis is just "i am cringe but i am free" like yeah that works

I'm not dying until either I finish all my fics or there is an animatic adaptation with Spiderverse levels of animation about A True Story from Lucian of Samosata.
Look man this thing is like 20x more crazy than any sci-fi movie and I need it adapated. IT'D BE GREAT.
"But Maracuya why do you think we need one our society is healthily functioning without it—"
River of wine
Cheese islands
Women trees. Or is it tree women?
Men that procreate and can take out their eyes
PUMKING PIRATES
Sea milk
Civilization inside a whale
There is a sort of hell for writers that claim their stories are true (oh how funny the main character is)
The Banquet of Beans– an actual chapter title.
A Frick ton of other weird things AND ALL OF THIS IN OUTER SPACE—
The book ending with a To Be Continued and then never continuing it (he's just like me fr).

objectively insane to equate a one night stand that may or may not have happened (but probably did but okay) with a whole emotional affair that spanned years?

illumination would make a fucking great movie out of blowing up farewell my turnabout into a full runtime because:
- most illumination films have a higher bodycount than the average aa game
- literally everything about celeste and juan and adrian and matt, individually and as relationship units. people love touting these movies as not genuine but the adrian accomplice reveal would be so Good
- the soundtrack would fuck
- the Established Family Unit of nick maya and pearl disrupted violently by the plot. gjdhhshs illumination movies are pretty good at that kind of uncanny loneliness of being various degrees of alienated from your family for any reason and throwing this switch would be effective and terrible
- shelly de killer extra scenes that are just aai2 ice cream man
- nick kicking down those doors wouldnt be a joke actually. there's always marvel quips in these joke posts. they're fun movies but even when they're funny they arent so un-genuine.
- "what kind of jokes are--" matt pulls out his fucking burbon and when nick looks desperately at the guard the guy ducks, obviously having either given it to him or knowing it happens. The action is funny but the framing and audio cue make it clear that the cops not only know to an extent but Will Not Help You. he's only barely in prison. the guard has a large anime sweat drop as the shot re-focuses on nick staring into his own reflection in the glass instead.
- i dont think they'd shy away from this kind of visceral breakdown either? like. i think it'd be discretion cut away but the reunion scene between maya and nick and pearl is the next part and maya is like "what aboutt your record?" and nick goes "i won :)"
- credits scene dance party tribute to the jammin ninja which is a little bit tasteless but it's not worse than anything else that happens generally speaking. de killer is here.
