#okay starting from the beginning of where ppl usually dislike him. apple woods chapter.#he doesn’t give hero/partner the CHANCE to explain themselves despite them being relatively good recruits up until that point.#and that legit might be my only gripe with that chapter bc!!! stories need conflict! I LIKE the conflict in apple woods!!!#hero and partner being punished so something they didn’t do!#the misunderstanding! how team skull (Skuntank) actually outplays the main duo with a clever yet rotten trick. I LOVE that it segways into-#one of the more sweeter scenes of guild members looking out for eachother. I LIKE APPLE WOODS CONFLICT.#but chatot just. not giving them a chance. is so dumb.#I’d personally fix this by having a lil montage of hero/partner fucking up on jobs. A LOT. and chatot giving them a pass every time.#and let the perfect apple incident BE the one where he puts his foot down and doesn’t listen to them. bc he’d given them loads of chances.#and doesn’t want to hear any excuse.#but yeah. I legit dont mind him during that chapter except for that really stupid and frustrating moment.#NOW. I think that’s when I genuinely despised him.#that and him going ‘OH I BELIEVED YOU THE WHOLE TIME HEEHOO :)’ shit was so fucking annoying.#just playing it off as a joke the second the guild started to believe hero and partner.#IMAGINE IF HE W A S ACTUALLY TESTING THE GUILD’S TRUST. #and this is not about long vs short vs emoji comments#this is about what you actually choose to say to total strangers#the current debate on that sub is whether it is rude to comment on a fic only to gush about the commissioned art#I don't know who needs to hear this but commenting on a fic and not talking about the fic at all is rude#that's the long and the short of it#going onto a fic to talk about something random or your friend oryour fic or some art and saying nothing about the story in front of you#that is rude#it is always rude#r/aO3 seems to believe that commenters can do no wrong#which is an insane take btw#but every fucking interaction on AO3 is a social interaction#you are engaging with strangers#and nobody would stand in line at a book signing and tell the author 'I really loved the cover art' and say nothing else#if they did everyone would think that person was wack#including the fucking authork

#transformers#art#optimus prime#au#optimus but what if he was old. angry at everyone and everything and lurked in the shadows#and if he also wore a cool (but dirty) cloth to hide his identity#what if ppl thought he died. so they mourn his passing in a ceremony. which he walked into to see whats up and then looks at his face in a#BIG HOLOGRAM and he's just standing there like “huh rip that guy i guess. never liked him” and left#not wanting to hear what megatron would say about him#(megs would be cybertron's leader !!!)#but megs would walk up and say to the public. genuinely teary eyed. how much his passing impacted him and how much he misses his old foe#and everyone would whisper old stories about optimus. remembering how nice he was and how skilled he was in the battlefield#why did he leave. you wonder. i dont know i made this up on the spot#maybe someone told him very mean (horrible) things about how his leadership style was going to doom cybertron or how he was surely going to#end up manipulating megatron and/or going to kill him and all the decepticons#maybe that someone was megatron and he said that stuff out of anger and didnt FULLY mean that#so he was like “ok then”. packed hastily and left without ppl knowing. so whoever entered his room after many days of “sulking” found it#all trashed and assumed the worst#and what does he do... save mechs from crimes like batman. but only when he's around and that's when he's low on energon and needs to get#more (not very frecuently). he's like a cryptid#other than that? build stuff idk. i like to imagine he's an engineer#he lives far. far away from society like the emo old man he is. perhaps near the sea of rust where he knows ppl wont get close#this wont make any sense i gave it like 5 minutes of thought. i just wanted to make an angry optimus design

MASSIVE trigger warning, obviously. This woman is an activist who has rescued thousands of women from prostitution/fast fashion factories etc. and we've never heard of her.

Books of 2023: DAEMON VOICES: ON STORIES AND STORYTELLING by Philip Pullman feat. the current knitting project!
Since I have both set aside my current revision project and successfully completed a beta read for a friend, I'm trying to catch up on knitting and reading! Said friend actually got me this book for last Christmas, and I've been waiting until I was between (writing) projects to start it.

When British writers come up with an American character’s dialogue and give them the most painfully British things to say with their American accent and inflection and it makes the actor come off as stiff. :P
#The Oxford Murders (2008)#I mean it was a very well-done movie visually (that flowy choreographed camera work in the beginning WOW)#The plot was apparently hard to follow and it’s not just my lack of spoken dialogue comprehension and attention working against me#I always have to check reviews to make sure I’m not the only person having a hard time following a story#because I’ve been trained through life not to trust my own mind due to its faultiness…#Anyway: When Seldom said something like “…only mathematics can be proven. Basic statements like two plus two equals four#are the only things sure in this world” I— 💀 HELP no no no… one of the previous characters you played#would like to kiss this new character of yours on the mouth for what he just said— ashsisksnsksjjsjdjdmsksk#That is until you elaborated on it and then basically took the side of his persecutor… THAT sucked#And I know my speech right now does not come off as naturally as it once did (or is it) I have no idea#if this is my real voice or the absorption’s afterglow causing me to speak in such an uptight manner#but I don’t mind it#but I do mind it#because no matter what combination of words I use it doesn’t sound or feel as if I am the one speaking — I stitch together what I hear#or have I only been conditioned to think the way I speak isn’t natural because nobody in my immediate life speaks like this#Who says stitching together words into a gigantic quilt isn’t natural for me?#But that still leaves me with no soul. I’m Pete the Parrot. I'm the LAST person to suggest that you have to preface every single comment you make about a character/fictional relationship/etc. you like with a reminder that you Know™ it's pRoBLeMaTiC, but I DO question what the point of acting genuinely for real like there were no problems is.
#I don't even mean in a 'what would it look like if this relationship were healthy' or 'what if this character were a good person'#because I think that's interesting to explore and I have several things I'm working on with elements of that#but I genuinely will hear people go 'there ARE no flaws in this thing' with their whole chest in a completely serious manner#when they could just. talk about how they like the thing without that qualification? and I feel like...#...idk. just because *I* am someone who enjoys horrible characters and deranged unhealthy fictional relationships#I feel like it's a disservice to act like there were never any faults or problems or [insert applicable noun here] at all? it gets rid of#the narrative complexity that's present#I was talking to long-distance best friend last night and I went on a rant about how I wouldn't like jaime as much if he actually WAS as#Super For Real Actually A Completely Good Person Who Was Never Flawed In Any Way as some people act like he is.#it's BECAUSE he does shitty things and isn't A Super Good Person™ that makes him particularly interesting#if you want to imagine a version of this story where he doesn't act horribly and is a 100% Stand Up Guy then go for it you don't need to#justify that by saying that that is completely for real without exception who he actually is in canon?#(this wasn't even the example that brought this on. he's one of many MANY examples.)#and you know I could write a story (I won't) where like. idk altena for example. handles her issues and doesn't become The Antagonist™#where she gets therapy and ends up with a fulfilling life where she participates in society as a more well-adjusted person.#but again it would be an INCREDIBLE disservice to the way this character (a complicated fascinating character) is written to act like#she was Always Like That or that this turn of events was intended by the story or that She Genuinely Never Did Anything Wrong Actually#it's less 'oh people are having sympathy for [xyz] in a story context that I think isn't merited' & it's more 'acting like this is the way#the story was all along and the way it was meant to be interpreted all along is a misreading of the text and I don't think that's fair'#mel's media criticism
