Idk why ppl think the writers of the bear are dumb and don’t have a storyboard but these writers are fucking fantastic and I trust them to give us an amazing szn 3 shipping aside they always give us the best writing and god the directing is otherworldly they need to be paid™️ their worth bc I wouldn’t survive a pushback or worse a cancellation 🧿

my name is percy jackson. i’m twelve years old. until a few months ago, i was a boarding student at yancy academy, a private school for troubled kids in upstate new york. am i a troubled kid? yeah. you could say that.
[Image ID: three gifs from the Percy Jackson & the Olympians teaser trailer, overlaid with text from Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief by Rick Riordan. The text is on parchment style paper.:
GIF 1: A faceless shot of Percy walking forward, clad in the orange Camp Half-Blood T-shirt. The text reads, "Look, I didn’t want to be a half-blood. If you’re reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close this book right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life."
GIF 2: A wide shot of Percy walking towards the entrance of Big House. The text reads, "Being a half-blood is dangerous. It’s scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways. If you’re a normal kid, reading this because you think it’s fiction, great. Read on. I envy you for being able to believe that none of this ever happened."
GIF 3: A closeup shot of Percy in the rain, as lightening flashes to light up his devastated expression. The text reads, "But if you recognize yourself in these pages – if you feel something stirring inside – stop reading immediately. You might be one of us. And once you know that, it’s only a matter of time before they sense it too, and they’ll come for you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you."

Oh to be is grabbed...
My Familiar’s Ghost part 52
Masterpost
New pages on Patreon!
(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1. Close up on Ghost Guillermo, both hands held out in front of him and clenched in the air as if trying to grab onto something. His ghostly light is flaring brightly around him, filling the entire panel as he strains and shakes, eyes closed and lips pressed firmly together. 2. Zoom out to a wide shot of Guillermo on one side of the table and Nadja on the other, Dolly propped in her lap. The taxidermy beaver Nandor is in the center of the table, draped in the bloody blouse, with lit candles in a circle around it casting an orange glow on everyone present. Guillermo lets out a breath and deflates, relaxing his arms exhaustedly. Tendrils of his ghostly light retreat back toward him. His wraith cloak is nearly fully formed. He says, 'This isn't working! I'm thinking of the Panera as hard as I can, but it's hard to remember exactly what it looks like.' Nadja scowls, replying, 'Well, there's your problem!' 3. Close up on Nadja and Dolly. Nadja waves her hand at Guillermo and says 'You should be thinking about Nandor. Surely you have enough about him living in your stupid little wraith brain.' Dolly nods from her lap. 4. Reverse shot of Guillermo, staring anxiously back with his fists pulled close to his chest. Dolly says from offscreen: 'Picture him in your mind. Materialize your bond with him. It may be helpful to imagine it as a string connecting you or a hand reaching out.' Nadja adds 'Then just...' 5. Reverse shot of Nadja grinning as she grabs Dolly around the torso with both hands and whooshes her up into the air, continuing, 'Grab him!' Dolly smiles and throws her arms in the air in a ta-da motion; text nearby reads 'is grabbed' in brackets. 6. Shot of Guillermo in profile as he looks back down at the nanbeaver facing him, touching a hand to his chin in thought. Still visibly nervous, he replies, 'Right, right, I can do that...' From offscreen, Dolly asks 'I wonder if Guillerpire slays ghosts, too?' Nadja responds 'Mm, I guess we'll see.' 7. Extreme closeup on Guillermo's face in profile as he straightens and closes his eyes, breathing out steadily. His ghostly light begins to flare up again, and a vision of Nandor from their talk in the attic appears in the background, looking shy and tucking his hair behind his ear. 8. Repeat. The vision in the background changes to Nandor pinned to the wall of his crypt by the stake Guillermo threw in his rage, and Guillermo physically flinches back. /End ID

thinking about the possibility of belos ending up in the inbetween realm after being stomped and finally getting what he deserves...
[ ID: A digitally illustrated comic mainly featuring Philip Wittebane from The Owl House. The first panel on the first page is a birds eye view of the inbetween realm, with cubes floating everywhere and a slight disturbance in the water below. The second panel is a close up of that disturbance, which looks to be a whirlpool of some sorts. The third panel follows that, and Philip’s hand is shown forming on the water, with a ““splat” beside it. The fourth panel is a behind view of Philip kneeled over, head to the ground and face obscured. He is in his human form, like how he is seen in Elsewhere and Elsewhen, and is breathing heavily. The fifth panel is still of Philip kneeling, except he has popped up his head and is looking around. He asks, “What is this” but is then promptly cut off by the next panel, which shows a grimwalker hand rising out from the water with a splash. He looks at this with a confused look.
The first panel on the second page is a close up of Philip’s face, a concerned and fearful expression on his face. He blurts out the word “No”. The second panel is spliced into three pieces, and each shows more dead grimwalkers rising from the water. The first shows another hand, the second a fully formed grimwalker with a broken mask crawling towards and reaching out to Philip, and the third yet another hand. The third panel is of Philip trying to back away by crawling while more grimwalker hands shoot up around him. He shouts at them, “G-Get Away!” The fourth panel is a view of Philip crawling back from behind, and a head of a grimwalker can be seen behind him. He yells again, saying, “I said-” but is cut off by the fifth panel where the grimwalker behind him suddenly grabs his arm. The sixth panel is of him looking over his shoulder, surprised. The seventh panel is an above shot of Philip sitting on the water, grinwalkers surrounding him and grabbing each of his limbs. The water swirls below him in a whirlpool motion. He shouts, “Get off me!! Go!!” The eighth panel is a closeup shot of an arm grabbing his shoe and pulling him down, the ninth panel showing the fear in his eyes.
The first panel on the third page is a wide shot of Philip being dragged down under the water, his arm straight up desperately trying to grab something. The water cascades around him, pushing him down even more. The second panel is a closeup of Caleb’s eyes, which are glaring with anger. The third panel is a below view of Philip being dragged down, with Caleb’s hand still tightly grasped around his foot. The fourth panel is a closeup of Philip’s eyes, which are staring in fear. The fifth panel is from Philip’s POV, where Caleb is seen still pulling him down by his ankle, glaring at him. Other grimwalkers are beside him, hands reaching up towards Philip to also help drag him down.
The first panel on the fourth and last page is of Philip being dragged down, a fearful and almost angry expression on his face. He screams, “Caleb! Let-” but does not finish his sentence. The second panel is of Caleb still glaring at him, not saying a word. The third panel is Philip looking at his brother with an unreadable expression on his face, as though he just realized something. The fourth panel is an above shot of Philip finally being dragged down into the depths Dr. Falcilier style, arm out stretched and he sinks. Broken masks of grimwalkers can be seen below him, pulling him down too. The last panel shows the surface of the water in the inbetweens realm, the surface still and finally tranquil. The word “Fin” is written at the bottom of the page. End ID. ]

have u seen the video of jason kelces daughter pointing out aj browns pink shows during the nfl game? anyway, theres definitely a video of little el pointing out her daddy on screen and its the cutest thing ever. shes like "daddy again! i see him mommy! oh! i see him again!" and jack literally melts when he sees the video because its literally the cutest thing ever
i love this so much 😭
it’s definitely when she’s like 3 and he’s on a roadie, Lovie just thinks it’s too cute to not record
***
it should’ve never surprised me how focused my daughter could become whenever a hockey game is involved.
with every male in her life being a former or current player, there’s constant hockey around her. i guess i just never assumed that at three years old, she could be so content in watching a hockey game.
El is sat on the couch when i return from the nursery, her bowl of fruit next to her and her eyes laser focused on the Devils game that plays on the tv. she looks over as i sit beside her, taking note of my empty arms.
“my Leo sleeping?” she wonders, her eyes wide and curious.
i wrap an arm around my daughter, pulling her close to me as my other hand runs through her wild blonde curls.
“yeah, lovely. Elio is asleep, so we can’t be too loud, okay?” she nods at my words, laying her head against my chest and dialing back into the game.
i tune in as well, noticing the score has yet to change from 0-0 since i left to put my son to sleep. it’s well into the second period, and i know my husband and his teammates must be frustrated.
i’m proven correct when the camera pans to the bench, where Jack heatedly converses with his brother.
“mommy!” El’s head pops up from its spot, her sticky little hand patting my cheek to make sure i’m paying attention. “it’s daddy! and uncle Luke!”
“yeah?” i laugh, pressing i kiss to the top of her head.
“yeah! i see them, mommy!” her voice is near yelling, high with excitement as she leaves my arms, bounding closer to the television.
the camera is back on the ice now, where the ref calls a penalty on the other team for tripping.
sliding my phone out of my back pocket, i swipe into the camera app, discreetly propping the now recording phone up on a toy on the coffee table. the camera captures the expanse of the half of the living room that El and i currently occupy, providing a good shot of my daughter that stands at the tv, and of me where i sit on the sofa.
i focus back on the game, my husband on the current power play unit.
he passes the puck back and forth with his teammates around the opposing teams net, and in a matter of seconds, he’s got the puck back and he’s shooting it straight past the goalie.
a wide grin spreads across my lips, a squeal escaping me in excitement.
“GO DADDY!” El cheers, jumping up and down in front of the tv. she turns back to look at me and runs over, climbing back up on my lap. “he did it, mommy! daddy got a goal!”
“he did, munchkin!” she climbs back down, looking back at the tv.
“daddy again! i see him mommy!” she calls out as the screen zooms in on a closeup of my smiling husband before panning back out to show him skating over to the bench.
the game cuts to media break and i look back at El’s smiling face, a spitting image of Jack’s smile.
when the game returns, it opens on a shot of Jack sitting on the bench, talking animatedly to Nico.
“oh! i see him again!” El cries out, pointing at the tv as she bounces around. “that’s daddy! that’s my daddy!”
i gather my phone from the table, cutting off the recording as my daughter rejoins me on the couch. she curls up in my lap, pulling the bowl of fruit on the couch back into her own lap.
i quickly send the video to Jack, for him to watch when he gets back to his hotel, and then set my phone down on the arm of the couch, wrapping my arms around my three year old.
we sit like this for the remainder of the game, El falling asleep during the second intermission, and only once the Devils have won 3-1, do i move her into her bed.
i turn the tv off, cleaning up the living room and placing the empty bowl from El’s fruit into the dishwasher before retreating to my own room for the rest of the night. i plug my phone in, changing into my pajama’s, brushing my teeth, and washing my face before climbing into my bed.
i’m just about to turn my lamp off when my phone begins to ring, and i look over to see an incoming facetime from Jack.
accepting the call, it’s no more than a few seconds before it connects, his smiling face filling my screen.
“hi, love.” i greet, smiling back at him.
“hi, lovie. El asleep now?” he questions, and i notice his hair is damp, apparently freshly washed, but he’s not in his hotel room, rather sitting on the plane.
“yeah, she fell asleep during second intermission.” i tell him. “pretty sure she was just waiting for you to score before she let herself crash.”
he chuckles and i speak again, “i thought you guys weren’t coming home until tomorrow afternoon?”
“no, we’re about to take off. i’ll be back by the time you wake up, i just wanted to talk to you before you go to sleep.”
my heart flutters in my chest. eight years together and he still never fails to make me feel like i have a schoolgirl crush.
“i loved that video, thank you for capturing that. and for sending it.” his eyes are soft, and i know he must be missing El a lot right now.
“yeah, well, i wanted you to see your number one fan.” i laugh, and he feigns offense, holding his free hand to his chest.
“i thought you were my number one fan.”
“i think El’s got me beat now.” i exaggerate a pout and he chuckles.
“i gotta go, we’re about to take off.” he sighs, and i nod in understanding. “i’ll see you when i get home. i love you, beautiful.”
“i love you too, love. see you when you get home.”

What line or lines from ATSV gets you the most emotional? For me, it's between "But I know...I can't lose one more friend" and "You're the best thing I've ever done". Gwen is so confused about everything but one thing she's certain of is she's not ready to have Miles walk out of her life. And there's a beauty in a parent accepting and choosing their child over anything.
Tumblr media
Probably the "Goodbye Gwen" line. But I have to admit; this isn't solely emotional just by the line for me. It's a combination on what Miles says that parallels to what Gwen says earlier in the film and the way the scene is framed. The fact that it's a close-up shot, and we're given a couple of seconds to solely focus on the emotions Miles is feeling. The way Miles has tears in his eyes too... T_T
I remember watching the movie for the first time and being so wrecked by how their relationship was at by the end of their last scene together. I've seen this movie 13 times in theaters, and this scene is one of the reasons why I wanted to so badly see it in the big screen as much as possible. Like I paid attention very intensely just to hear Miles say "Goodbye Gwen" lol. xD
You probably know this already since it's so widely talked about at this point, but as a recap, people speculate that Gwen's intro in the beginning of the film is her trying to recruit people to join her "band" at the end of the film. And we see all these scenes foreshadowing what's to come...But the "Goodbye Gwen" scene is literally the last foreshadowing scene before Gwen's intro ends. Even if this movie ends with Gwen feeling confident again and ready to save Miles, it does make me think how Gwen must have felt seeing how broken-hearted Miles was. At least in that moment, it must have hurt a lot. And I'm glad the ATSV team decided to end the intro with Miles' closeup shot. It all makes the "Goodbye Gwen" line so much more emotional. :')

Time to start a tally for bookclub.
The way this page from TriMax Volume 1 uses the right to left sequencing of panels to suggest a crucifixion really stands out to me. It creates such a particular rhythm in my mind when I imagine how it would play out in a moving audiovisual adaptation. The closeup shot on Vash's face with his hand resting palm-up on his head transitioning to the more wide angle view of him lying down and then an abrupt cut to the coffin maker driving a nail into the wood punctuated by the sound of the hammer hitting the nail.
Tumblr media
And Vash gets literally stabbed in the hand quite a few times after this, so I decided I'm going to make a running tally of all of Vash's crucifixion-adjacent injuries. 😅 Sorry beloved fictional man, your evocative Jesus-y pain is too compelling.
I debated a lot over whether to include gunshot injuries, and I settled on yes though I do think at least one of them may be a bit of a stretch.
So far I have:
Trigun Vol 2, Chp 8 - Vash shoots himself through the legs to get to Knives. Some of the bullets hit him in the ankles.
TriMax Vol 3, Chp 5 - Leonof's puppet pierces his wrist with a lance to force him to let go of the strings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. TriMax Vol 3, Chp 7 - Vash uses his prosthetic left hand as a shield.
Tumblr media
4. TriMax Vol 5, Chp 5 - Really the most overt one. Right hand in angel arm form is pinned by Elendira's nail.
Tumblr media
That's four total so far, with two that specifically involve being pierced. Feel free to add on if I missed any.

Bocchi The Rock Episode 7: The Anime of The Year
Look at the video above, just.... look. This is still a series about a socially anxious loner that wants to play in a band and make friends. It's still the same as ever. It's still the same series. But somehow, somehow, it not only separates itself from its pack of fellow Slice of Life titles, it separates itself from its fellow anime this year and rests atop them in a league of its own. It's like some sort of dream.
Sure, Dress Up Darling did the classic 4:3 anime reference, and yeah, Akebi's Sailor Uniform had incredibly detailed and essentially photorealistic environments and backgrounds. But there's two things with that.
One: Cloverworks did both of those series Two: Neither uses a god damn Claymation Zoetrope for the purpose of a single cut in a single episode of a single series.
It's not playing with a balloon, it's not drawing characters onto cutouts on popsicle sticks. It is an entirely separate creative process that takes far more time, and is even an entirely different area of expertise. Drawing is not the same as 3d modelling. Yes, there's overlap, but you're not guaranteed to be great at 3d models and sculptures just because you can draw super well.
And this is but the tip of the iceberg, it's a minute and 30 seconds of this entire outstanding episode, of which there's a world of incredible creativity to tackle. So buckle up for a far too long post about the incredible work on episode 10 of Bocchi The Rock.
Tumblr media
So, how about that cold open? Though I guess it's more so hot than cold. Regardless, this cold open really provides some incredible pieces that cement the quality of prior episodes. Firstly, the photorealistic environment work. Look at the image above, it's drawn in a really interesting way. The angle, the height, the shadow. It sells the feeling that you're bending over to grab the bottle of water from the vending machine perfectly. Why? Because it's from a reference photo. Look at the image below. Look at the cars, at the incredibly unique layout of the building behind the girls, or the pieces of another building sticking out from the trees on the left. This too, is from a reference photo. In fact, with a large amount of confidence, I can say that all the static backgrounds and environments that Njika and Kita walk through are from reference pictures, and they integrate incredibly well. There's something so alluring about the overlap of photorealism and the relatively low detail but expressive designs of the girls.
Tumblr media
Perhaps my favorite piece from their cold open though was when the pair disappeared behind a grouping of trees. The understanding of space and pacing, the distance that the girls are shown at, it's all so incredibly well put together, and produces a helplessly satisfying cut.
Tumblr media
Favorites aside, the direction of the cold open really stands out in comparison to the typical style of Bocchi The Rock. It's even more spacious than usual thanks to being outside, but Cloverworks contrasts that wide feeling with lots of super close up shots to bring it in tighter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's something really wonderful about this approach for a cold open. The staff didn't just randomly pick closeups to focus on, they work the dialogue into their approach, when there's nothing specific being talked about they keep the scene wide and open, but when there's something specific like talking about bringing stuff over, or talking about Bocchi's weirdness, they shift the focus to those pieces to really highlight them. However, there is a secret third option that they add: the walking close up. What I love about this is the break that it provides. You might not have noticed, but you can only hear the footsteps of the girls when there's a close up on them walking. When they're at a distance or focused on somewhere else you can't hear it, which I thought was a wonderful addition that really adds a nice feel.
That unique direction of specialized close ups doesn't end with the cold open though, it extends into the episode itself and adds a really fun change of pace to the norm that we as viewers have gotten used to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, this small little piece in Bocchi's room. Was a really fun little callback to her pool surfing daydream, and gives you the inclination that Bocchi's daydreams aren't just abstract, but from stuff she's seen and/or experienced.
Tumblr media
Anyways, the episode eventually settles in and begins to deliver on its usual promises. Fluid animation, creative reactions and approaches, really satisfying framing and camera angles, the whole 9 yards. I say that like it's some regular standard, but in reality there's not a show out there I can think of that produces such incredible episodes each week as if it's nothing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I loved this little addition. The staff is aware enough of Bocchi's daydreaming and the reactions of the characters to to it that they can incorporate natural jokes into the flow of the series.
Tumblr media
The further you get into the episode, the more its approach sinks in. It's not the more muted or driven episode like the previous, but one that affords the team experimentation and plenty of room for creativity. Bocchi's severe case of lonerism is Cloverwork's golden ticket to the odd and outstanding approach that they seem to love.
Tumblr media
And do they ever put their heart into it. Getting Bocchi to dress in regular clothing was super fun and cute!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quickly though, they drive out the cuteness and bring in the despair for an impressive minute and thirty (ish) second stretch of a very unique brand of skit where Bocchi dies from having her head fully exposed, and wreaks havoc on Nijika and Kita from the grave. Sort of a see it to believe it moment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, this skit too, comes to pass, and we get back to the girls and their plans for their first big event, where they settle down a little and focus on the characters. It was a really fun little sequence that shows how far Bocchi's already made it in terms of social anxiety, where she's willing to go against the flow of the group based on her own opinions and ideals.
Tumblr media
Bocchi really is trying hard to overcome her fears and anxieties, and her friends are very supportive. Of course though, it's Bocchi, things can't go well. The typhoon comes to hit them anyways, and we get left in the episode with a dramatic shot of Bocchi looking out at the storm. Thanks to the eavestrough (or maybe roof?) above Bocchi in the scene, it paints it as a sort of widescreen black bar effect, making the moment even more dramatic.
Tumblr media
I had said it in my last post about the previous Bocchi episode, but the creativity of this show truly is a marvel. How you manage to have the thought process of "Bocchi daydreaming about the sports festival -> Claymation Zoetrope" still astonishes me. It's such an incredible leap to even consider, let alone execute. And they find the perfect spot for it. They don't have these ideas and think "where can we fit these", in fact it feels the opposite. It feels like the staff analyzes each and every little moment, every single frame of each episode and rack their brains over the question of "What can we do here", and the answer to that question is each and every episode of Bocchi The Rock.
Anime of the season hands down, Anime of The Year no contest, each episode of this series transcends awards and popularity to an entire other degree. It's something that everyone looks at with admiration, with astonishment, with immense appreciation, because it's more than competing for popularity or anything that trivial. It's a perfect case study for letting talented individuals loose to do the best and most cohesively creative work you can even really think of.

[Green Lantern (1990)/vol 3 #77]
also can we PLEASSE talk about the paneling on these pages.
up to this point the issue has consistently used gutters (the empty space between panels), with exceptions for wide establishing shots, and clean borders. but as Connor provokes Kyle here, the paneling breaks into these frenetic, inconsistent outlines. which is than SLAMMED back into smooth lines when Kyle holds himself still/back BUT we dont return to gutters until the next page - this moment is still too intense to allow that breathing room.
also, most of the panels are rectangular; the exceptions being closeups of Johnny while Connor is talking to him, a flash to Eddie, and this moment as Kyle rejects Connors side, all moments that imply that Connor and Kyle dont have all the information

Why is Stu working at a Sunoco in Staten Island, you say? Why don't u mind ya business! God forbid werewolves do anything.
My Familiar's Ghost part 8
Masterpost
(ID in alt and under cut)
ID: 1. Wide shot of a Sunoco gas station at night, the pumps empty, an open sign glowing red at the door. In the foreground, Nandor and Colin are walking toward it, backs to the viewer. Colin, now wearing a wool coat, pipes up "Nandor, did you know if your hand is bigger than your face, you have cancer?" Nandor replies shortly, "I am a vampire, Colin Robinson, I cannot get the cancer." Colin responds, "Right. Can't be too careful, though."
2a. Close up of Colin doing a talking head. With a wry smile, he explains, "Yeah, I've been experimenting with early 2000s-based humor." 2b. His voiceover continues over the next panel: "My housemates seem mostly immune, but reminding millennials how old they are provides a remarkably quick drain." Overlayed in sepia, we see Colin in another scene, sitting next to a young woman on a bus. He looks at his phone and remarks, "Huh. Shrek was released 21 years ago today." The woman next to him immediately slumps over and slams her head against the bus window, fully asleep and drooling.
3a. Back at the Sunoco, Nandor and Colin have reached the door. Nandor grins triumphantly, pointing toward a sign that reads "Please come in!" Colin smiles and gives him a thumbs up. 3b. Shot from inside the Sunoco from behind the counter, showing a close up of an employee stocking cigarettes. The employee is a white man in his 40s with lank dark blonde hair and three large pink scars on his forehead and cheek. His name tag says "Stu". He glances over to the side as there is a loud rattling at the door, and offscreen we hear Nandor griping "I thought that would work! Fucking door!" Colin snaps back, "It says push!" Nandor just responds with an "Oh," and the door opens with a ding.
4a. Stu turns around to face the new customers, starting to say "Welcome to-" before Nandor leans in on the counter and cuts him off, wiggling his hand in front of Stu's face. Nandor uses his best hypnosis voice, speech bubble glowing green, to command "Smelly shop worker, you will tell me the whereabouts of the one called Eric-" "Derek," Colin corrects, sidling up to him with a patient smile. "Derek," Nandor finishes. 4b. Reverse shot, extreme closeup of Nandor and Colin in the foreground facing each other, Stu framed between their profiles in the background. Stu looks mildly perturbed but unhypnotized as he replies, "Oh, uh. I'm not allowed to give out employee information." Nandor hisses to Colin, "It's no use! He doesn't want to tell us!" Colin drawls back, "You're really crap at this hypnosis thing, huh?"
5a. Reverse shot, Colin says "Step aside for the pro," and plants a hand on Nandor's chest to move him back, stepping confidently in front to face Stu. Nandor looks ruffled but allows the switch. Colin points upwards and asks, "Say, is that a Panasonic WV-S3131L security camera? I prefer the Argo system myself. You really can't beat the 4K resolution..." 5b. Shot from behind Nandor's head as he waits, Colin and Stu conversing quietly with blank speech bubbles. 5c. Colin turns and rushes back over to Nandor, looking a little panicked as he explains, "Well, that didn't work. He was actually interested in what I was saying!" Nandor puts a hand to his chin thoughtfully and narrows his eyes at Stu, who is standing behind the counter staring at him with a question mark over his head. Nandor declares, "This guy is crafty...we need a new plan." /end ID

New stuff up in my shop!
Quantities are limited, so grab em before they’re gone!
Image IDs under the cut.
[Image ID: 3 photographs.
First photo: A down shot on an open cardboard box with an art print balanced on top of the packing material. The print is a cartoonish, brightly-lit illustration of the cast of Lupin III in matching "Team Lupin" T-shirts taking a photo together while Zenigata bursts angrily through the patterned backdrop behind them, tearing it down and knocking over the lighting display. Lupin lays over his friends' laps, winking and flashing a "V for Victory" sign at the camera. His arm is around Fujiko, who's slipping a gold watch off his wrist and glancing up over her shoulder at Zenigata (she's the only one who notices him). Goemon sits stiffly upright with an awkward smile, clutching his sword. Jigen appears embarrassed with a turned face and arms crossed. Over the image is the text "Thanks for the priceless artifact! Best of luck with your insurance company! XOXO ~Lupin III"
Second photo: An art print set up in front of a coffeemaker labeled “Mr. Coffee.” The print is a digitally colored illustration of Bruno from Encanto. He looks somewhat bored as he sips from an hourglass-patterned mug, wearing a baseball cap that reads "Women want me, fish fear me." To the left of the print is a coffee travel mug with text on it that reads “I’m too sexy to be 60!”
Third photo: A closeup of an original art piece with black inked lineart on top of blue pencil lines, with bits of whiteout visible here and there. The illustration is of Belle from Beauty And The Beast, looking wide-eyed and cheerful as she reads a book. The book is a thick hardcover with an image of a rose on the back cover. Sparkles hover over the pages.

BnHA Ch.355 - Review, parallels & comparisons
I didn’t love this chapter as a whole, but I still think there’s some good stuff worth noting. First, Jiro! She’s clearly not prepared for the unholy monster that is AFO. (And, to be slightly fair, AFO is using some new quirks we haven’t seen before, like whatever turns his arm into a semi-sentient demigorgon that bites his opponents.) Plus she’s flying on a classmate’s back. It would be abnormal if she wasn’t terrified.
Throughout the manga, Jiro has never been treated as one of the “strong ones.” She’s got tons of attitude, but she’s not angry or confrontational. Personality-wise, she seems best-suited for reconnaissance not battle. E.g., she’s the only character in the last arc that asked after All Might. (In the School Festival arc, it’s Bakugo who prompts her to stop giving a shit about what other people think.) But her quirk works well against AFO because she can really mess up his infrared/radio wave sensing, so Jiro HAS to step into the battle role. She finds a truly critical mission put on her plate before she’s ready, much like Kaminari in the war. And, like Kaminari, she rose to the occasion — that panel of her screaming at AFO sure did look like her triumphant solo moment in the school festival.
Tumblr media
Other than her quirk, battling AFO is a HUGE leap for Jiro. Remember, she was taken out by Mirio in 1 second, and she felt weak compared to Bakugo on the bus to USJ……..
She got super nervous before the provisional licensing exam. Her big arc centered around her singing and bringing people together (which she was initially too shy to do), not on her quirk or heroic skills. But together with Tokoyami and Hawks, she’s able to fly and land a critical hit on AFO.
Tumblr media
As for the Twitter feud over “feminism”, I just don’t see anything wrong with how Jiro is portrayed. In this chapter, Jiro is being treated with respect by everyone around her and the narrative is giving her a chance to be a critical battle hero. Now, if ONLY the female characters get hurt in this final arc, or HK overly focuses on female characters getting mauled, then perhaps there’s something to dig into. But Jiro losing one of her earphone jacks and then overcoming her fears and pain to land a badass combo hit on AFO? I am fine with this.
I feel like I should talk about Endeavor and Hawks, but meh. What stands out to me is how Enji pictures his sons in his head. He sees Shoto as a surly, angry kid glaring up at him. Meanwhile, Toya is manic with wide eyes and an enormous grin, looking down on Enji from above. This is how his sons look at him. This is what he sees. And yeah, it’s what he deserves.
Tumblr media
Moving to AFO, you can laugh at AFO’s “fowl” pun all you want — it hides that his battle strategy is wrong, wrong, WRONG. He assumed the heroes would stall him until Endeavor was back in the fight. He assumed the heroes would leave the heavy hits for the Number One. But when Endeavor got hurt, it was a combo of the #2 and two students (one who placed at the Sports Festival, but the other largely unknown) that cracked his helmet. Hell, even AFO’s pun references a DUO, but there’s THREE heroes who are involved. And AFO also assumes the “children” just so happened to be paired with the “big shots,” as if Tokoyami and Jiro werent chosen strategically. As if Hawks’s wings can’t pick up on sound vibrations. That’s how little attention AFO pays to the “extras.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look at the laundry list of what AFO says — motives, words, deeds, abilities, (quirk) power. What did he leave out? Willpower. Hatred. Feelings. Emotion. That’s why Jiro’s rallying cry has to be “you made my friends cry,” and that’s why a closeup of her anguished face is right next to Hawks moving into the stream of her Legato move for the final slash. (It would make more sense, generally, for her to draw inspiration from Momo, Kaminari, or even Bakugo rather than Izuku and Aoyama, but in the context of a true hero selflessly “raging for the sake of others” I do see why it has to be those two.)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
The vestige part is interesting. AFO has a big smile as he says, “Their very wills…they were spurred on by this?” AFO sure wasn’t smiling when New Order revolted. He was grimacing, cursing, and screaming. I don’t know what he just realized, but I’m guessing it’s not good for the heroes if he’s grinning. There HAS to be more to AFO right now than just “he knows he’s won even if this body dies”. Like we all knew that at the outset of this fight — AFO original recipe is still very dangerous, so the heroes have to separate him from Tomura and kill him, but that diverts resources from Tomura, so AFO’s got the heroes outwitted no matter what happens to this body. But also, AFO doesn’t take chances unless he HAS to, so he won’t let his original body die just to fully “vest” in Tomura. He’s gonna hang on as long as he can and take down as many heroes as possible, right??? And surely he’s got some sneaky game-clearing moves nobody’s ever seen, yeah???

Wide shot from 15:59-16:02 -- Jigen's in the far left background, in the doorway behind his employer, and if you're curious you can see the asshole I resent for looking too much like him and being a main character in the 2014 movie (which Jigen is very not), rightmost foreground character seated at the table. Closeup from 16:06-16:08.
Yes, most of Jigen's onscreen appearances in this movie are about this brief. He has a couple of scenes where he spends most of a minute onscreen. I'm doing this much screenshotting partly because otherwise it'd be like two posts and done.
Man, he is working that hat brim, though. As a hat wearer myself for close to twenty years now, I have Opinions on live-action hat use (Ryohei Suzuki, star of the live-action Zenigata-Keibu show from 2017, does excellent work with his), and of course it's especially crucial for a Jigen. This movie has him showing his eyes almost all the time, which is a flaw I don't expect in the new movie -- the teaser trailer absolutely understood how to make use of that single eye popping into view when he fires -- and what I'm taking from clips like these is that Mr Tamayama has the skill to manage his hat sightlines / eye visibility when he gets the chance. (In profile, no less! It's easy when you can look at the camera.)

I want to talk about 'The Bad Batch' Animation!!!
So we all know that TBB has some of the most beautiful animation SW has ever given us, but there were a few scenes in 2.15 and 2.16 that just really stood out to me as the animators upping their game and giving us something extra special for the finale.
*I apparently can't make gifs small enough to put on tumblr without GREATLY reducing the quality/size, so they got turned into vids (no audio) and as I can only upload one vid per post, I'm going to just put them all together (there are 4 total) in one vid instead of in a separate reblogs*
Scene 1 is at the beginning of 2.15 when Echo goes to sit down:
There is a LOT more movement for Echo here than we normally see from our characters. You can tell that this is more 3D rendered than what we normally get, and with more of the body, too - not just head/arms/shoulders or them walking.
It's not like we haven't seen characters move around before and interact with the environment (i.e. the chair), but this just shows so much more "moving within the space" than we normally get, and more rotation from the character, too. It almost makes it feel more real than the animation has looked before.
Scene 2 is the hallway fight later in the ep:
I love how the camera moves through the space with Tech and then over the Stormy's shoulder around the corner. And then instead of cutting to a different shot, it continues through the hallway as Hunter uses the trooper as a human shield, Tech coming back into the shot as they keep moving. It's like one of those awesome continuous shots you see in big Hollywood action movies! Once again, there's so much movement and 3D rendering going on making the scene feel more real!
Scene 3 is a brief panning wide shot of the hangar bay:
It's short and sweet, but this shot shows SO MUCH space and gives us a 3D view of the shuttles, along with the troopers walking around! Just think about how they had to create this entire room and render it so we can see it from every angle! It's glorious!
Scene 4 is Omega's first person POV in 2.16 as she's carried to and inside the Marauder:
My favorite example of the batch (pun intended haha)! Now it's not just one character or one hallway or one room, but an EXTERIOR shot which includes multiple moving figures, a closeup view of the Marauder (along with the motion of the ramp coming down), AND the interior of the ship as well!!!! You can even see when Wrecker moves the chair before going down the corridor at the end of the clip! And ALL OF THIS in different and moving angles because we're looking through the eyes of someone who's being carried and her head is most likely lolling. Simply incredible!!
-
Seeing how the general aesthetic of the show is 3D elements moving in front of largely 2D backdrops, having these four scenes show fully realized 3D settings and more movement from the characters was an absolute delight! They really pulled out all the stops for this finale and I cannot WAIT to see what they have in store for us in Season 3!!!

Small Wine Cup Qing Lian
This fig maker loves Qing Lian, also known as Xiao-Zhe, the lotus spirit played by Zhang Zhehan for the video game Jade Dynasty: New Fantasy. This is her third (and I am sure by no means last) Qing Lian fig.
Please enjoy some of the inspiration for this fig from the behind-the-scenes footage from the commercial shooting:
You get a bonus A-Han with this too! The shot of A-Han in the shower of gold is just incredible, and the shot of Xiao-Zhe taking a drink is not so shabby either. Speaking of taking a drink...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beautiful. I'm so appreciative of this commercial for all the gorgeous art, dolls, figs, merch, fan fic etc. that it inspired!
Tumblr media
Our little day drinker arrived safely wedged in his protective polystyrene foam box. There was cotton fluff packed in around him, but I took it out so you could see how he was tucked in there. For figs like this, I take a box opener and cut a vertical line down from the hollow to the bottom, and then kind of peel the plastic foam open so the fig can just gently roll out into my hands. I'd be too afraid to just pull it out of the box as is.
Tumblr media
And here he is, as handsome and as starry eyed as can be. The wine cup is not removable (thankfully), so I don't have to worry about it falling off or getting lost.
Tumblr media
His costume is quite intricate with all the asymmetrical layers, but of course that's what makes it pretty.
Tumblr media
I've always really liked this outfit since it's more of a pants and tunic look, which is a bit different than the robes. I love the robes! But this is a cool look to mix it up.
Tumblr media
I like all these fantasy costumes, they're so fun.
Tumblr media
The split tails of the back of the tunic are very cool too.
Tumblr media
This fig stands very nicely, no doubt in part to those high white boots.
Tumblr media
I really like how the fig maker rendered his sleeve here.
Tumblr media
My favorite fig angle continues to deliver, with a nice shot of the asymmetry and layering of the outfit.
Tumblr media
Rosy fig cheeks are just too adorable, aren't they? I love the stars in his eyes and his quirky little smile.
Tumblr media
Here's a bit of a closeup so you can see the detail on the outfit.
Tumblr media
I love those nice wide fig feet! Makes him stand that much better. You can see here how the cup is one piece there in the hand.
Tumblr media
His guan is relatively simple, but the very high, substantial ponytail is a distinctive characteristic of this look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The really gorgeous box cards. These are so dreamy and beautiful.
Material: Resin
Fig Count: 381
Scene Count: 26
Rating: Worthy of a toast (or two...or twenty!)
