to be honest a friend of mine did point this out but, why didn't eda or lilith use their staffs more after losing their magic? they should still be able to use them if powerless people like luz, hunter, and caleb  all can use staffs.
I know part of it was wanting them to use glyphs, which is fine, but technically there's no reason they can't just continue to do powerful spells with their staffs given since the curse shouldn't affect that aspect? It’s never been shown to affect eda’s usage of it, just her internal magic.
And it’s shown that palisman have their own internal magic since magicless individuals can use them.
Like the scene with lilith and hooty in Seperate Tides is great, but really, lilith should logically just use her staff to get the firebee honey and it’s more unusual she doesn’t try it.
The show really never provides any reason why neither sister uses their staffs again outside of flight, it's very odd.
You get a lot of great scenes. like how eda gets her harpy form, which seems like the exchange given for her loss of magic. But she has owlbert, and the palisman are treated somewhat like disability aids, so it’s weird he never came up much again when eda had become entirely powerless.
You don't think about it in the moment but looking back, i think the crew overlooked this aspect cause it is a bit of a plothole.
It’s not something that ruins the show mind you, but when you think about it it means there were a lot of situations they could of still used staff magic to get out of and the show and characters just completely ignore the idea without giving us a reason for it.

good morning on this fine friday at 5am my time! circe clawthorne jumpscare.
I truly think this is very very close to final, moreso than usual lol. I'm quite happy with this
I really can't tell if it would be more difficult for me to try and convert this into proper paragraphs or make it a comic...
well here it is. but wait there will be more!
•••
?: [distantly] Philip?
?: [closer] Philip!
?: Philip Wittebane!!!
P: [weirded out cuz hes in the middle of the woods] What in the–
C: [running up to him excitedly] Philip!!! It’s SO good to see you again!!!
P: [backing away] See me again? Do we know each other, Miss?
C: !
C: Come on, Philip!
C: Surely the King of the Witch Hunters can recognize the Dread Witch Beezelbella when he sees her!
P: …
C: [smile falters nervously] ...
[Philip bolts]
C: Wh- Philip!
[He sprints through the woods as fast as he can, but weaving between the trees slows him down.]
[Circe suddenly cuts Philip off, riding on her staff]
P: [flinches away from her so violently that he falls on his ass] GAH!!
C: What are you running away for?!
P: [shielding his face, peeking at her erratically, as if afraid to look directly at her for too long] You’re not real!! You’re some cruel illusion!!
P: Sent to– to torment me, or tempt me to forfeit my soul to the devil!
P: Well it WON’T WORK!! So– gh– [flails his hands in her general direction] BEGONE!
C: No no no no! No tricks, I promise!
C: [REALIZES SHE IS LEVITATING] Ah!!! Er…
[she jumps off the staff and holds it behind her conspicuously, too frantic to remember to store it as a palisman]
C: [smiling nervously] I meant to save that for later!
P: [STARING]
C: Here. :) [holds out her free hand to help him up]
P: [looks somewhere btwn angry and scandalized]
[Philip pushes himself further away from her before standing up on his own. He struggles a little because he now seems reluctant to take his eyes off her. Circe looks saddened but not entirely surprised.]
C: Really, I--
[tries to gesture, but is still holding the staff in one hand, and ends up accidentally swinging it towards Philip.]
[Philip flinches again, and stares at it like it might explode.]
[Circe quickly reduces the staff to just a bird and pockets the palisman in her cloak]
C: [smiling apologetically, holding up palms to show she’s unarmed] I’d never dream of hurting you!!
C: [looking at him and still smiling but with pleading, sad eyes] You know that, don't you Philip? No matter how we've changed, I...I'll always love you.
P: [mentally recalculating] …I...see.
C: [beams] Yes!! I pinky promise! [holds out pinky for a second, but quickly drops it]
P: [less defensive body language, but still clearly a little wary] Hm…
C: [a bit nervier] Ah-- before we go any further, I need to re-introduce myself!!
P: [skeptical] Re-introduce?
C: [trying to stay chipper but looking more stressed] I know I look different, but it’s…it’s still me!! [she pulls her hair back into a ponytail, looking a bit uncomfortable] See?
P: The…Dread Witch Beezelbella.
C: [frustrated] Your sis– your sibling!!! You know, the one who raised you?? Who spent all those years putting gruel on the table??
P: [frowning] The one who died seven years ago.
C: Er– well– I had to...go away for a while. But I’m here now!!
C: [trying to bulldoze through it] And really hardly anything has changed!
C: I've simply learned I’m much happier being your sister! That’s not too complicated, is it? You understand, don’t you??
P: I…suppose–
C: [bulldozing again] Spectacular!!!!
C: So, you’ll call me Ci– [seems to realize something] Er…just C.C. is fine for now! [nervy smile]
[Philip gives her a perplexed look]
C: Probably easier and, er…good for an Adjustment Period! [nods to herself]
P: [mostly just baffled] …C.C.
C: [nodding more] You've got it!! Same person, new gender! None of the old name and no man words, pretty please!
P: --
C: [before Philip can reply] Great!!!
C: Now, with all THAT out of the way: It’s YOUR turn! [stepping closer to him, as though she wants to hold his hands] Tell me everything! How are you?! What’s happened while I was gone? What have you been up to??
P: [leaning away] Oh. Er…
P: I’m…doing very well. I… [“thinks”, bringing a finger to his chin a little too theatrically]
P: …Goodness, so much has changed, I’m not even sure where to start!
P: Really, you ought to just visit the house with me and see what’s changed for yourself. [grabs her arm and gently tugs]
C: [Withdraws, very nervous] Oh, no no no, I can't go into town.
C: You and I of all people should know how–!
C: --!
C: [Squints]
P: …Is something the matter?
C: [Squints harder]
C: ...Do NOT Witch-hunt me, Philip!!!!
P: I have no idea what you’re talking about. I'm only trying to show you--
C: Oh for goodness' sake, NO!!!! I will NOT set foot in that town EVER again!!
P: ...Then you should wait here for just a moment, and I'll return shortly– [beginning to walk away]
C: [Grabs his arm to stop him leaving] [exasperated] I am not an idiot, Philip!!!
C: [sighs] Look, I know this is going to be difficult for you to accept, but magic didn't turn me evil! I'm still just ME!
P: [MAIDENLESS STARE]
[Circe continues holding Philip’s arm to keep him there, and for now, he lets her.]
C: As it turns out, you DON’T have to sell your soul for magic! We were completely wrong about it!
P: [EXTREMELY skeptical] Is that so?
C: [frustrated] It’s true! I could prove it to you!
C: ...Well, I guess I can’t PROVE that I still have a soul. Not that I know of. [to herself] I wonder if there’s a spell for that…
P: [extremely sarcastic] Perhaps we ought to enlighten the entire town to the existence of this fascinating *benign sorcery*.
C: [annoyed] Really, Philip?
P: Well, why not?? Since you can *prove* that it’s harmless, let's go prove it to everybody! It would make our lives *so* much easier…
C: Stop it.
P: Why, no one would have to do chores ever again!
C: Philip!
P: Maybe we could all be in one big witch’s coven together--
C: ENOUGH!!
C: You've been clear enough already!!!! You still don't like magic, and you don't trust me!!!
C: [takes a deep breath] ...
[Gently, Circe lets go of Philip's arm, which she had been gripping rather tightly.]
[She watches as though expecting Philip to bolt again, but he doesn't.]
[She fidgets with her sleeve as she continues.]
C: Philip, please. Just...just listen to me for a moment.
P: [Opens mouth, looking indignant]
C: [cutting Philip off] You don't have to believe me! I know that you...probably won't. I had hoped--
C: [doesnt finish that thought, looking bitterly sad]
C: ...There's something I need to tell you, but I want to know you'll listen.
P: [scoffs] Why bother if you know I won't fall for it?
C: Because...! Because I have to do something!
C: ...Philip--
[She reaches toward him, and he shrinks back.]
P: You've been gone for nearly a decade.
C: ... [confirmingly guilty face]
P: It took you that long to-- to bother telling me anything?!
P: Why in the hell would I want to believe that?!
—–
P: How could I?!
P: How could I possibly believe that you’d *vanish without a trace,*
P: and then– *reappear out of thin air,* just because-- what, the whim finally struck you???
C: No--! It-- it wasn't a whim, Philip, I would never--!
P: [pulling at his hair] AGH!! Then where have you *been??!!!* Why come back *now??!*
C: I-- it's difficult to explain--
P: I spent YEARS trying to hunt down that *witch*–!
[Circe grimacing/wincing rxn shot]
P: [gesticulating wildly] YEARS hopelessly wondering what might’ve become of you!!!!!
P: I WASTED my LIFE searching for answers!!!!
P: Of course I don't want to believe this!! That you could have come back this whole time, but-- [voice breaking]
P: ...But you chose not to.
C: 😟
P: [still angry, but quieter now] And what a cruel joke it would be, for you to finally be here.
P: [hand gravitating towards knife on belt] After I’d finally managed to give *up* on you.
[Circe wants to hug him. She wishes he were still small enough that she could pick him up and squeeze him with all her might. But she thinks better of it. No matter how much she loved Philip, she couldn't afford to trust him right now.]
[Philip's hand is hovering over the spot where Circe knows his knife sheath to be. She feels her heart break a little more.]
[She steadily meets his eyes and keeps her hands at her sides, ready to pull out her staff if necessary. She won't be able to hurt him the way he's apparently resolved to hurt her, but she could run away.]
[She had desperately hoped that Gravesfield's claws wouldn't be sunken so deeply into him, but she knew what it took to survive there. And he had been forced to survive it even longer than her.]
C: ...I’m sorry, Philip.
P: ...
C: I'm sorry for leaving you in Gravesfield alone.
C: I didn't think I had a choice.
[Circe shifts her weight uncomfortably. It feels wrong, measuring how she speaks to Philip, her brother, the person who knew her better than anyone not too long ago. But he isn't the only one she's protecting anymore.]
C: ...truthfully, I…
[It feels loathesome to admit after so many years of spending so much of her energy hiding it.]
C: …I thought you would be better off without me.
P: [genuine confusion] ...What?
C: You're a genius, Philip. I knew you could do anything you put your mind to. Make a real future for yourself.
C: But I-- I could barely even keep us fed until we--
C: [looking terribly guilty] ...started working together.
C: I thought that once you could take care of yourself...
C: You could have a normal, happy life. Without me.
P: [pissed] And how do you know that you couldn't be a part of it!? You ran away before you even tried!!
C: I tried for years!! All my trying ever did was put targets on our backs!!!
C: [bitterly] Because I couldn't hold down any job but the most dangerous in Gravesfield.
---
P: What targets?! We were heroes!
P: If you had just stayed, if you had never listened to that witch, we still would be!!
P: Did she say I'd be better off without you?! Is that how she convinced you to leave?!
C: [low, serious] No.
C: I... [ashamed] ...I made up my mind before I met Evelyn.
C: I had already decided you were better off without me.
C: [intense] She's the reason I'm still here to discuss it with you.
P: [shocked, unsettled, doesn't want to process that]
P: That...that can't be true! Everything was fine until she came along!! This was all her fault!!
P: You'd still be normal if it weren't for her!!!
C: [angry on Evelyn's behalf] No!!! I was never normal!!!!
C: And you were the only person who couldn't seem to tell!!!
C: [tearing up] It was going to get us both killed, sooner or later!!!
C: *I* was going to get us killed, because I'm like this!! Because *I* can't live a normal life!!
C: I wanted to protect you. To make your life easier than mine had been, but--
P: You were protecting me just fine before you ran away!!!
P: And what's this nonsense about us getting killed?! We were heroes! We saved the whole town from evil!
C: We were never heroes! We weren't saving anyone!
C: We punished people who didn't fit in!
P: Didn't "fit in??"
P: We punished monsters!! Demons who tortured our neighbors!!
P: Any one of those witches would have sacrificed all of Gravesfield to the Devil had we not stopped them!!
C: And what about us, Philip?!
C: Is there anyone in Gravesfield we wouldn't have sacrificed, had the court willed it?!!
C: [crying] We were such hypocrites!
C: The suspicion, the accusations-- it was exactly the way they used to treat us!! We were outsiders, too!!
P: [falters. that kinda gets to him but he wants to pretend it didnt]
C: [miserable] I justified so many awful things to myself. To you.
C: All because I was too scared to see the truth.
C: And once I finally did...I was too gutless to ask you to face it.
C: We were never any better than anyone else.
C: All of it...
C: It was just murder.
P: [not as much conviction] Don't be ridiculous--!
C: Don't be naive!!
P: ...
C: ...
C: ...I am truly sorry, Philip.
C: I'm sorry that I got us into this mess.
C: I'm sorry that I couldn't protect you like I was supposed to.
--
C: I was rash. And stupid. But I only ever wanted to keep you safe.
C: ...I still want you to be safe. I'd hoped you could understand, but...
C: [difficult for her to give up on him] ...if you refuse to listen...there's nothing that I can do.
P: [trying to not want it to be real] ...
[Philip looks conflicted, frustrated, trying to find his anger and righteousness again]
P: I-- rrgh!! You're impossible!!!
[He begins to walk in one direction, pulling at his hair, then suddenly turns on his heel and walks the other way again]
P: [exasperated, tring to convince himself] Literally! This is-- this is all impossible...!
[He buries his face in his hands and plops down on a log with an angry grunt]
[Circe watches him, wondering what he’s thinking now.]
[After he just sits there with his face in his hands for a moment, she slowly approaches and sits carefully next to him.]
P: [he is resting his elbows on his legs. He clasps his hands, uncovering his face, forehead against his intertwined fists.]
P: ...
[shot of Circe looking at him sadly]
C: …Are you happy in Gravesfield?
P: [Hands still clasped, his eyes open, looking into the woods] …
C: Philip?
P: [flatly] That doesn’t matter.
C: [Leaning forward, trying to look in his eyes] …It matters to *me*…
[Philip unclasps his hands but remains hunched over. He instead holds his elbows, which still rest on his legs. Does not look at Circe.]
P: [cold] So you say.
[Circe shrinks back]
[the two sit in silence for a moment. Birds chirp, and the bare tree branches sway in the breeze above them.]
C: [quietly] …are the trials as bad as they used to be?
P: …
P: [even tone] Less frequent.
C: [hopeful] That’s good.
P: … [furrows his eyebrows]
C: Do you still–
P: Yes.
C: [saddened] …
P: I am protecting people.
P: I’ve prevented what happened to you from happening again a dozen times over.
[Circe pales. Philip still is not looking at her.]
P: [clearly bitter about something] I’m *careful.* [seeming more vexed than proud] I’ve done more research than *anyone.*
C: [examining his face] …Research?
P: …
C: [dawning ] Do they *understand* that’s what your doing?
P: [intensely, looking only at the ground] It doesn’t matter. I can prove it.
C: [scared] Philip, are you in danger?
P: [breaks a twig off a branch on the fallen log with his left hand] [curtly] *No.*
P: [looks annoyed at the stick momentarily. passes it to his right hand] Because *I* am not a witch.
P: [slightly hesitant] …obviously.
—-
[Philip starts doodling in the dirt with the twig]
C: [losing patience with his stubborness] Do you honestly still believe that only real witches get accused? Get *punished?*
P: [stops drawing. gives her an angry sideways glance. then glares at the dirt again] …
P: …*Yes.*
P: As long as you do it *correctly.*
C: [furrows eyebrows] ……
[Philip resumes, scratching the dirt more forcefully.]
C: But–
P: Witches die because they are born doomed.
[as he says “doomed,” Philip finishes drawing The Belos Mask with a final, forceful scratch]
C: That’s what we were *told*. That doesn’t mean it’s true.
[Circe looks at Philip, expression somewhere between grim and pleading, but he won’t look up from his sketch]
——
P: [darkly] What does that mean for you, then?
[Circe is taken off-guard]
P: Do your witch-friends know what you used to do?
P: Or are you lying to them, too?
C: I–!
C: …
C: [quieter] …Not all of them know.
P: [snidely] Hmph.
C: [with a bit more conviction] But the ones that *do* know…
C: They know that I was scared. And trying to keep us safe.
C: There are people who understand that I truly thought I was doing the right thing.
C: [guilt] That I would give anything to undo it now…
C: [focusing on Philip again] They trust me, and love me, even though I’ve made…terrible mistakes. Even though I’ll *always* make mistakes.
C: [trying REALLY hard to get through to Philip] *Gravesfield isn’t all there is.*
P: …
[Philip scratches out the doodle forcefully.]
P: [unhappily] Good for you.
—-
[a prolonged beat of silence, save Philip’s stick scraping against the ground as he scribbles slowly, randomly on the spot where the doodle used to be]
C: ...If you want–
[suddenly, Philip throws his stick to the ground and turns to Circe]
P: [frustrated noise] Would you just get this over with already?!
C: [taken aback] What?
P: For Christ's sake, I don’t care what you want anymore!! Just take it!!!
P: You win! Enough with this awful vision!!
C: [baffled] Wha–! I-I’m not–! You still don’t believe that I’m real?!
——-
P: You *can’t* be!
P: [breaking a little] I only *want* you to be real!
P: I *want* you to be *alive*!
P: I don’t *want* to be *alone* any longer!!
P: But you insist on dragging out this awful charade!!
P: [becoming more desperate than angry] Why can’t you just lie to me?!
P: Tell me that you never wanted to leave at all!! That you're back for good! That nothing’s changed!!
P: *Something*– *anything* that’s actually easy to go along with!!! Isn't that what you're supposed to do?!
[Circe looks hurt]
P: Don't I even get to die thinking that I could be reunited with– with you?!
P: [losing steam] …What could you possibly want that you haven’t had the chance to take from me already…?
[a beat. Circe’s expression has closed off considerably. Philip rubs his face for a moment, then looks up again.]
P: Please. Get it over with. Kill me, or whatever it is you came here to do.
P: Or for God’s sake leave me be.
[wide shot of them sitting in unhappy silence]
——
C: [very quietly] …Alright.
[Circe stands, brushes her skirt off. Philip remains sitting, not looking at her]
C: I suppose I’ve done all that I can, then.
P: …
C: I won’t disturb you again.
P: …….
C: I’m still thankful that I could see you one last time.
P: ………..
C: [trying to keep composed] Please…stay safe. Take care of yourself.
P: ……………..
C: I love you.
P: …………… … …
C: [offscreen] Goodbye, Philip.
[she walks away]
[a beat passes]
[Philips resolve breaks. As he looks up–]
P: Ca– C.C., I–
[–he realizes he is alone again.]
P: ….
P: [slowly, he stands. brushes his jacket off. walks away.]

I was supposed to do this yesterday but I had homework so here is your Owl House DSMP AU dump :] (There are 2 versions btw)
"MAIN" Owl House DSMP AU: The Crow House(still coming up with a better name):
The island/demon realm this takes place in is called Essempii because Dream SMP sounds a bit on the nose considering Dream's role in this.
Tommy - Luz:
Tommy stumbles into the Essempii when Brian(Phil's crow/palisman) snatches the jar Shroud(Tommy's pet tarantula) was being kept in while he was on a walk holding Shroud's travel jar(don't worry, Tommy has a properly sized habitat for Shroud, the jar is only when Tommy wants to take Shroud out of the house. And yes I had to research proper tarantula care.)
Also, Shroud is a completely black curly-haired tarantula because it looked the closest to a Minecraft spider and was also a common species of tarantula to keep.
Tommy got in trouble a lot in school(in the human realm) for various reasons like letting raccoons into the school because he felt bad for them living on the streets, sneaking Shroud into the school and putting him in someone's hair(usually someone he found annoying), causing small fires in the science lab, and getting into fights with pricks, y'know, the usual.
When Tommy discovered the Essempii, it was on a Friday and close to summer break. He stays there for the weekend or a single day and leaves afterward. He makes a promise to come back when he's off for the summer.
Potions was the first type of magic Tommy learned to actually use and also got interested in Beast-keeping
Tommy learned about glyphs from Tubbo when they first met which I'll probably have a separate post for since I have a scene planned for it already. Basically, Tubbo knows about glyphs from experimenting but only knows the basic ones since he has the magic to not need them except for experiments. When they first met, Tubbo was using glyphs for an experiment that involved making basically a grenade. Tubbo taught Tommy the glyphs he knows and later, Tommy was able to figure out how to combine them.
Tommy's palisman will definitely be a raccoon in this AU version :))))) (In the 2nd AU version, he has a phoenix palisman)
Greek mythology isn't known in the Essempii, but Tommy read about Greek Mythology when he got bored back in the human realm.
Phil - Eda:
ANARCHYYYYYY (He's an anarchist)
He wasn't cursed by someone close to him(mostly because idk who it would be that doesn't already have a separate role). He was cursed by Admin Dream(who takes the role of Emperor Belos) for using wild magic and was going to be put into Pandora's Vault along with being cursed, chained up like a wild animal. This is the typical punishment for people who are caught using wild magic. However, Phil was able to escape and keep the curse under control. I have the perfect video to show what Phil looks like when the curse takes over but I don't have the energy to find it.
Also, I'm highly considering if Chat should be Hooty. We're definitely silly enough for it :/
His hardcore heart pendant thing is how he guages his magic
The curse didn't give him his wings. What the curse actually does is amplify hybrid genes.
Phil used to carve palismen for people in the Essempii but as the wood for palismen became more scarce, he couldn't do that anymore.
Tubbo - Gus/Willow
Tubbo mainly uses plant magic like Willow, but has Gus's general energy.
Although he mostly uses plant magic at school, he loves to use fire or explosive magic which- y'know, doesn't work out well considering plants are flammable and- yeah :/ He causes wayyyy too many fires. However, when he combines this magic, it's really useful in combat.
Tubbo likes experimenting with mixing magic and gets in trouble for it a lot but somehow finds a way to get out of trouble. After a very risky incident that nearly ended with serious consequences, he stuck to doing magic-mixing experiments in a secret lab setup in the forest(which is where he first met Tommy)
Has a bee palisman but I'm still figuring out a name
Tubbo has a garden and likes to put any weeds he pulls out into their own separate planters since he thinks they deserve to live as much as the other plants do because they're also just trying to survive(I got this idea from Tommy in Unlikely Events)
Tubbo and Tommy's shared love for animals and chaos caused them to get along well
When Tubbo isn't at school, he basically looks like a young version of QSMP! Tubbo's design
After students are able to join multiple tracks, Tubbo joins the beast-keeping and potion tracks along with staying in his current track
Ranboo - Gus/Willow
I have so much extra lore for Ranboo TvT
Even though they're in the Oracle track, they use other types of magic, mainly illusion and healing. Obviously, they are careful about when they use it and isn't as careless about it as Tubbo since they're trying to stay under the radar
They're secretly an enderian, a hybrid race that was slaughtered after Admin Dream took the throne because their enderpearls(which allowed them to teleport freely) were considered wild magic. Another big reason they were killed was because they have a natural talent for magic which Dream feared because they had the power to take him down if they worked together. Enderians were also one of the first people to discover magic so wild magic is ingrained in their culture.
To hide the fact they're an enderian, they use a concealment stone to hide their hybrid traits. Without the concealment stone, they basically look exactly like C! Ranboo but with different clothes. With the concealment stone, they look human(but with pointy ears of course) with heteochromic eyes(warm brown and muddled green), split black and white hair, and vitiligo.
Some enderians survived and had secret camps around the Essempii. The one Ranboo was born in was discovered and raided by Dream's army. Ranboo survived the attack because their parents hid them and gave him the concealment stone and a necklace that is a family heirloom. The pendant of the necklace looks like an eye of ender but smaller.
The concealment stone is kinda weak because to hide it, Ranboo broke it into smaller pieces so it could fit inside the eye of ender pendant. Ranboo uses their magic to help the illusion be more stable.
Sometimes, their magic isn't able to fully support the illusion so their mouth, hands, and eyes revert back and speckles of his black and white skin appear like freckles. To hide this, he wears a mask, sunglasses, and gloves.
They also know healing magic because they learned it back before the Enderian camp was invaded. They thought it would be useful and it comes in handy since Tubbo and Tommy always get hurt because they are chaotic and have a knack for getting in trouble.
Once they're able to take multiple tracks, they take the illusion and healing track. They want to learn how to control their illusions better to stay more concealed and they want to be able to heal Tommy and Tubbo when they get bigger, more dangerous wounds.
Okay that's it for now, I didn't realize how long this would take. I didn't even get to start talking about my 2nd Owl House DSMP AU(which is the one I like better despite it being newer and less planned). I'll continue with this AU in the next post then finally get to my 2nd AU.

How does no one talk about this? It's from a summary of the final Post Hoot and like... How is no one talking about this? Or ever talked about this?
They had no OUTLINES. BY THE END OF S2A, THEY HAD NO OUTLINES! Like not even a "This is the general idea of what S2B will look like." Sure, that still needs to be filled in but they literally confessed to writing Yesterday's Lie, to getting that episode done, with literally NO PLANS on how to follow it up. You know, despite leaving it on a fucking cliffhanger.
How does anyone still think you can defend the show with the shortening when Dana herself admitted you can't. We didn't miss out on anything after all because there was no grand plan to miss out on. It was just all vapor. All half baked ideas.
And I really want to emphasize that she's stating that this was the case WHILE THE HALF SEASON WAS FINISHED. She had NO ONE working on the next half pre-emptively? No plans whatsoever for where it was going to go? Yesterday's Lie ends on a giant cliffhanger that demands to be answered and changes the very perception we have of the main character... And you're telling me you had no clear plans for what you were going to do about that?
The shortening is not an excuse. Period. Dana admitted herself, even if she didn't mean it that way. And for a show that constantly kicks payoffs down the line like TOH did, like stuff with the palisman or Willow and Amity's friendship, that makes this all the more inexcusable.
TOH could have only ever survived for so long like this. The shortening didn't hurt the show. It's simply why it has a better legacy than it would have if it had wasted more of our time.
======+++++======
I could do an entire blog on how much this picture explains so much about some of the truly bizarre elements of S2B. Also yes, I do hate that she goes on to say in this same post-Hoot that she had plans for X elements or the like because you JUST admitted you didn't. They may have been things you wanted to do but you literally can't say they would have happened. Not when you didn't even have an OUTLINE.
Part of my rage about this btw is that I have spent so much of this past week proving why issues run deep with the show and that the shortening didn't matter while meanwhile they just straight up ADMITTED it didn't.
I have a public Discord for any and all who want to join!
I also have an Amazon page for all of my original works in various forms of character focused romances from cute, teenage romance to erotica series of my past. I have an Ao3 for my fanfiction projects as well if that catches your fancy instead. If you want to hang out with me, I stream from time to time and love to chat with chat.

Viney Renders
Like Skara, Viney is a character I've grown to appreciate a lot more while writing her in my fics. Espsically, in one of my most recent fics, "Stomach Churned." She's a very down to Earth realist yet also tough and easily angered. I remember Dana saying she was meant to be a one-off character, but I'm glad they brought her back and put her on the Flyer Derby Team. Exploring her friendship with the rest of the team is very, very fun.
I guess I should answer this. Do I ship Skara and Viney? Ehhh, I don't know. I do like the ship but at the same time I could see them being just friends. I'm not really sure what chemistry they'd have. (But then again I'm the same person who ships Boscha and Amelia with Cat being their supportive third wheel when they've like hardly interacted on screen sooo.... idk even I make no sense to myself)
I will say Mark's version of their story is super cute and I'd definitely ship it if that was cannon.
It's sad Viney didn't get more screentime... but with the way animation works and Dana not expecting the fandom to love Viney so much, she could only really bring her back in season 2... and the shortening, I don't think anyone is to really blame here (outside Disney for the shortening). And sometimes it can be fun to explore concepts that a show never confirmed because at least your fanon version will never be irrelevant!
Also I'm very happy with how my personal casual outfit came out for her. I felt like she'd like ripped clothes.
Also I fucking love Viney's palisman I named him Basil and he is my baby.

Could you write a part 2 of babysitting a horse boy please?
I’m So Lucky To Have You
(Part 2 of "Babysitting A Horse Boy" Part 3 is here).
"Mr. Evelyn's dad," Philip began, gazing up at Mr. Clawthorne, with an exuberant smile while he stood behind him.
"Are we almost finished? Is my horsie almost done?"
He was practically bouncing up and down in excitement as Mr. Clawthorne did his best to keep him from bumping into their workspace.
"I really want to hold them!" Philip said. "I really, really do!"
The brunette's blue eyes were filled with joy.
Mr. Clawthorne let out an amused chuckle at the small boy's keenness as he continued to help him carve his horse palisman with so much love and care.
"I understand that you do," Mr. Clawthorne gently stated. "But you have to remember, Philip, that carving a palisman takes time and lots of patience. Most importantly, we're still working on a very delicate detail. You wouldn't want us to rush through things and accidentally hurt your new friend, would you?"
Philip let out a small gasp.
He would never, in a million years, want to ever hurt his new friend.
Philip shook his head, taking a deep breath in before letting it out to calm himself down.
"Good," Mr. Clawthorne said with a doting smile, assisting Philip in adding in the necessary detail to his horse.
Based on Philip's answer, he could already tell that he was going to take very good care of his palisman pal.
...
Upon their completion, Mr. Clawthorne used a brush to apply an even coating of wood oil to the little long-legged horsie and spread it effectively.
He then wrapped up the palisman in a white drying cloth.
Mr. Clawthorne smiled down at the horse that he held securely in his hands.
Looking up, he aimed his gaze at Philip.
"Looks like we're finally finished," he said. "Would you like to hold them?"
Philip let out a joyous squeal.
That's the only thing he wanted to do at the moment.
"I would, I would! Yes, please!" he beamed, holding out his hands to receive his palisman.
"Okay then," Mr. Clawthorne replies with vital laughter, placing the palisman in Philip's cupped hands before gently unraveling the cloth.
When Mr. Clawthorne walked away to return the cloth to its proper place, he came back with an accessory that made Philip more excited.
"They'll need this," he chuckled, slowly placing a miniature cowboy hat on the horse's head.
He was careful not to let any wood oil touch it.
"It's a perfect fit!" Philip exclaimed with a shining smile.
Mr. Clawthorne let out another chuckle.
"They can hear you, you know," he said.
"Why don't you introduce yourself?"
"Oh!" Philip brought the precious palisman close to his face.
"Hello there!" he greeted gingerly. "My name is Philip! Philip Wittebane. What's yours?"
His palisman remained silent to the question.
"Huh? Why didn't they neigh?" Philip looked to Mr. Clawthorne for an answer.
"Palisman usually stay quiet until you reveal your greatest desire to them," Mr. Clawthorne explained.
Philip's smile slowly turns into a sad frown.
"But... what if I don't know my greatest desire?" he whispered, his small voice laced with worry.
Mr. Clawthorne, sensing his sadness, places an arm around Philip and pulls him close.
He starts to provide him with comfort.
As Philip looks up at him, tears begin to form in the waterline of both his eyes.
"You can always get help from me and Miss. Clawthorne to figure that out," he said in a serenely tone, smiling softly.
With his smile slowly returning, Philip gives Mr. Clawthorne a hug while still holding onto his palisman.
"Thank you," he sniffled, wiping the unshed tears from his eyes.
Mr. Clawthorne, smiling down at Philip, accepts his affection.
Philip focuses his sunny gaze on his palisman.
"Since my horse doesn't have a name, I think I'm going to name them Lucky because of how lucky I am to have them!"
He looks back at Mr. Clawthorne.
"I'm also lucky to have you. Let's go show Lucky to Miss. Evelyn's mommy!"
As Philip excitedly rushed out of Mr. Clawthorne's workshop, Mr. Clawthorne let out a chuckle and followed behind the buoyant boy.
(Author's note: When it comes to my short stories, I'm willing to write a trilogy for them (only parts 1, 2, and 3). If you want that, let me know. However, if you're fine with just this, that's good too. Thank you for the request!)

Brother's Keeper AU:
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How did Caleb live so long? How can he still be here after 400 years?
A: Belos wanted him to stick around and so he made it happen. As for specifics: *shrugs* your guess is as good as mine! This is something I've preferred to leave up to the readers. I will simply confirm that he isn't hiding any goop powers or OP palisman-given magical abilities. He is, for all intents and purposes, a regular human who is somehow really, really old.
Q: If Caleb is still alive, where did Hunter come from?
A: The full story here hasn't been told yet, but you may notice Caleb is missing quite a few bones...
Q: Caleb's ears are pointed! Did Belos cut them??
A: Correct
Q: Does Caleb know about the Collector/the basilisks/Belos' plans?
A: Probably! He's been Belos' sounding board for 400 years. Access to things that could "further corrupt him" or provide him a tool for escape, however, are off limits, so there are many things, like the Collector, that he's heard about but never seen for himself.
Q: Where's Flapjack/Amity/Darius/etc?
A: This is basically a canon divergence. If you haven't seen a particular character, it's safe to assume for now that they're up to whatever they were doing in canon.
Q: I don't get it. Why is Caleb insane?
A: I suggest you reread the first few story posts, my friend! You have fallen for Belos' lies.
Q: Do you have a posting schedule? When will the next part come out?
A: There is no posting schedule. I draw (mostly but not always) traditionally in my free time, for the fun of telling a cool story, and some posts are longer than others. That means the timing of the next post depends on how long it is, how much time I have, and whether or not I'm at home with access to my scanner. Sometimes this means I post quickly. Sometimes it means you'll see me next month. Sorry about that.
Just know that if I know there's going to be an extended wait, especially one where I'm not actively working on the next drawing, I will make an announcement about it. If you haven't seen an update in a while but I also haven't said anything, it's almost definitely because I'm actively chipping away at a part of the story that's taking me longer.
Q: Why do some of the story posts have a letter after the number? Are these less important than the regular story posts? Can I skip them?
A: No, I Do Not Recommend skipping them! They are just as important as the others. They have a letter on the end because they were added later and I use letters as a way to avoid renumbering everything. If you see story posts labeled something like "3, 3A, 4", they are meant to be read the same as you would if they were "3, 4, 5".
Q: Can I make art/fic/cosplay of this au?
A: Knock yourself out! If you post it somewhere, please include credit, but otherwise I don't mind, and actually love seeing what you do with it! If it's NSFW though, please keep it in appropriate spaces with proper warnings.
Q: Wait there's fic/fanart?? Can I see?
A: If you look through the tag on my blog "BK fridge gallery" you can browse any content shared with me that I've reblogged. :) People are free not to share it with me too though, and there are some I don't reblog, especially if its gorey or suggestive, so you might be able to find a bit more elsewhere under the Brother's Keeper AU name if you look for it.
You may also notice I have a featured tag called "BK Soundtrack." That's for songs that people have suggested to go with the AU. You are welcome to browse or suggest songs of your own ;)
Q: :( I sent an ask but you didn't answer. Did you get it?
A: Probably, yes. Sometimes it takes me a few days to get to it. However, if it was theorizing about future plot points, I may actually be holding onto it with plans to answer at a more appropriate time. I like to keep many of my plans for the story close to the chest, so don't be surprised if your theory ask disappears only to show up many months later when the story has progressed to a point where I can give you a more in depth answer.

I want to shout out to Principal Bump.
I feel like Bumpipoo really deserves some love before we inevitably see him petrified because he is such an ally to his students in so many different ways. I feel like one thing really missing from Media is supportive principals. Principals are almost exclusively bad guys in cartoons. At best they are idiotic obstacles to the young protagonists, at worst they are straight up evil overlords who like to torture children for fun. Principal Bump is neither of these things. He genuinely cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
Even in his first appearance in Once I Was a Teenage Abomination, where he was framed in that light of "evil principal", he wasn't malicious. Yeah, he tried to dissect Luz, but he didn't know she was sentient. He was genuinely curious about his student's work and also investigating potential cheating. And when he realized Willow was in a track that was not best suited for her, he switched her immediately to a track where she would thrive.
In Convention, when he asks "what is the height of magical achievement", and Mattholmule does a trick where he blows up his head like a balloon. Instead of yelling at Mattholmule for embarrassing him in front of the Emperor’s Coven, he just says, "wow, I have failed you as a principal." Echoing the idea that "students don't fail, only teachers do."
In Something Ventured, Someone Framed he immediately embraced the idea of Luz being a student, believing that the student body could benefit from having such a unique exchange student. He also is genuinely interested in learning more about the kind of magic she can do. He also takes this as an opportunity to teach Eda a lesson, which honestly, she definitely owed it to him after all the incident reports he had to write. (As a former teacher, I can assure you, incident reports are the worst! Eda OWED that man.) And even after everything Eda put him through, even after Luz caused such chaos on her first visit, even after Luz and Gus destroy the detention pit, he still welcomes Luz as a student. He does this by the way, knowing Eda is a wanted criminal. Not just a wanted criminal, but the most wanted criminal on the Boiling Isles. He also promises that she and Luz are both safe at his school. I repeat, without any hesitation,  Bump promises to harbor Public Enemy #1 from the Emperor himself, because not even the Emperor is going to interfere with the way he runs his school. He never once breaks this promise.
During First Day, when Luz asks if she failed, he assures her he's seen worse. Which might sound harsh, but is often the best response when a teenager knows they messed something up. (False praise makes teens feel patronized, where as "I've Seen Worse" tells them, yeah, it didn't go as well as you wanted it to, but others have messed upp too, you can always improve)
While he is shown to be a bit more antagonistic by refusing to let students branch out into multi-tracks and instead throwing them in the detention track, he comes around remarkably quickly, and in the fight against the Basilisk his first priority is protecting Amity.
In Enchanting Grom Fright he asks Eda to chaperone, almost as if he wanted to make sure the most powerful witch on the Isles around in case something went wrong. Again showing that in spite of how brutal a Hexside education can be, he still prioritizes the safety of his students.
In Escaping Expulsion, while he does kick Gus, Willow, and Luz out of school at the behest of Odalia, he is incredibly upset about the decision, crying when he has to chase them off school grounds.
While he doesn't have any speaking lines, Eda's Requim shows him beaming with pride when Luz is ahead in the Gland Prix.He excitedly worked with Eda and the Bat Queen to organized Palisman Adoption Day in order to make sure all of his students have access to a Palisman after Palistrom wood became too rare for them to carve their own. (Also, Oh My Titan that hair! That glorious, glorious hair! What a beautiful old man!)
Them's the Breaks, Kid reveals that even though Eda made his job a living nightmare, he still stuck his neck out for her because he saw her potential and refused to give up on one of his students. He also tells Eda he is proud of her refusal to go along with Terra's game even though his job was on the line.
After opening up the multi-track study for all students, in Labyrinth Runners, he conspires with Adrien Graye to try and protect his students' freedom. While this ends up being a trap, it shows how far he will go for his students' happiness. When the illusion takes over the school, he gathers all the students to a safe hideout. While he doesn't trust Hunter at all, he listens to Willow, Viney, and Skara when they insist on saving him. He also doesn't give any response to the teacher who suggests they use Hunter as leverage in a hostage negotiation (because my boy, Princey-B isn't going to use a teenager's life as a bargaining chip). He then helps defend his school against Adrian, and puts the coven scouts in their place by brushing aside the threat of "you'll pay for this," with "lol, go ahead, tell Belos you lost to a bunch of teenagers" while looking so proud of his teenagers for WRECKING the coven scouts.
Add to that the fact that he set up refuge for his students during the Day of Unity and managed to successfully defend that refuge from the Collector even though doing so resulted in him becoming a puppet….yeah, Principal Bump deserves that statue in For the Future, he really was the Coolest Principal Ever. And I really hope he somehow survives being petrified

as the OG source of the A Little Kindness AU aka Raine adopting Hunter I would LOVE to know how you would change it to be canon compliant. i mean obviously the reveal would be after everything, but god just imagine Hunter worrying about his anonymous friend/caretaker and he finds out its the FUCKING OWL LADY'S PARTNER and hes just so happy theyre ok and to know who helped him out all the time but also OH TITAN LUZ IS GONNA BE HIS SISTER EVEN MORE NOW!
~adoption anon
the little gray box who started it all!!!! welcome back
good lord there would be so many overhauls...just so incredibly many I gotta try to break it all down to smaller sections to even get. a glimpse
1) okay so as we have learned Raine was NOT, in fact, under any mind control, just pulling the biggest brained move on Snapdragon she ever did see. so raine doesn't even go missing in the first place, if anything they might halt the notes altogether but still remain in the castle just because they were under constant vigilance and meeting eda again mightve made them triply afraid of getting other people involved with their work. hunter stresses about it, as you do, but flapjack isn't freaking out cause HE'S seen raine's face, and he knows that they're fine, but he has no idea what happened, so Hunter is less concerned since Flapjack isn't. not by a lot tho.
2) so INSTEAD of Hunter booking it to Luz to plead for help on some criminals, he instead takes all of this suppressed fear and worry and stress and just kinda. balls it up. and then shoves all of it out in the open during Eclipse Lake. he goes HARD trying to get that Titan's Blood and the thing where he tried to relate to Amity over being a failure? he doubles down on that shit TREMENDOUSLY and their shared failing to live up to what other ppl wanted and pushing away their friends (granted Amity actually pushed Willow away to try and help, Hunter didn't push Raine away he just thought he did). you think his breakdown in Eclipse Lake was concerning? hes about to make it even more concerning. hes very very afraid for Bat and he would really rather they hate him than anyone found out they'd been talking to him and they got murdered, so he better try and beat the shit out of Amity! if Belos is pleased with him, maybe he'll hesitate on whatever punishment Bat might be having right now
3) Raine, bless 'em, keeps trying to help Hunter how they can, dropping these tiny hints they don't mean to drop. Hunter's part of setting up and preparing everything for the Coven Day Parade and Raine is noticeably always checking in on the Golden Guard. we know now that Hunter started showing his face more after the Palisman incident, but Raine isn't seen around often, so I imagine it's around the Coven Day Parade that they finally see what Hunter looks like--and good lord that IS a literal teenager what the hell did they DO TO HIM---alright scrap all the plans. darius, eberwolf, change of plans. everything stays the same, but we're kidnapping Hunter on the way out
4) Any Sport in a Storm is pretty much the same, Hunter is just even antsier & more desperate to get these new friends to like him bc. Bat. and also punts Darius twice as hard. Darius for his part is only marginally nicer because he knows Raine's weirdly attached to this little rat of a child--oh wait nvm he sees why now. alright valid point. Darius is a firm believer in "for the love of god just tell him you're Bat it will save everyone a lot of stress" but unfortunately Raine subscribes to "if anyone i really care about is within fifty feet of me we are All Going To Die"
5) mostly everything would stay the same in Hollow Mind, i think? Raine, Darius and Eberwolf might actually go up to the Owl House and speak when Hunter and Luz get trapped in Belos's mind since its both Raine and Darius that are stressed as fuck over the kid? in that instance then everyone teams up much quicker (and in confusion) but Hunter still books it out at fast speeds into the woods and somehow makes it to Hexside. he's a slippery little bastard, but luckily now theres a whole gang teamed together to track him down and hes found by Darius pretty quickly after the Owl House is evacuated and torn apart. however Hexside is VERYYYYY on edge over coven heads claiming to want to "help" and "have betrayed the Coven" so they're all beating Darius back like a rabid raccoon and Hunter thinks he's here to kill him. so thats fun. eventually Darius gives up, scruffs Raine, and throws them down at Hexside and demands they finally clear shit up. its a very cute scene of Raine sneaking in and slipping little notes under the door of whatever classroom Hunter's hiding for his life in, wherein he realizes Bat's come back. and Hunter's finally brave enough to yank open the door to---RAINE?????
6) more stuff that mostly stays the same. Hunter however is very stressed over Raine when they're trapped in the human realm which eventually leads to him and Luz talking a lot and him realizing "im sorry waht the fuck do you MEAN that the owl lady and raine whispers were a THING??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERES STILL SOMETHING THERE????" but above all i want to fuck this boy up so insanely bad and at least give him a GLIMPSE of Raine's puppet body being possessed by Belos. even if there is no interaction other than Hunter seeing them for a brief flash I know in my heart that would fuck him up so bad. he would blame himself so so much. Belos really here to kill everything he loves before he can finally be free huh
7) MOST importantly they finally get to hug when everyones reunited and hunter feels SO INCREDIBLY GUILTY when he sees all the fresh new scars Raine has courtesy of Belos. to which Raine, in peak parent fashion, just goes "nah, i dont mind 'em. now we match :]" and Hunter's just god u are missing the point so badly but i'll let it slide. how'd you know my new scars were from belos. and raine just stares like "how did i know your new scars were from WHAT????? oh im so glad i killed his ass" "YOU DID WHAT"

Idk if you watch the Owl House but if you have do you have an opinion on Principal Bump being revealed to be blind?
Blind Character in The Owl House
Yes, I do. This show has a lot of great characters. For those who don’t know, The Owl House is an animated Disney show that features cool witchcraft.
I was happy about this revelation because it is a nice, fun bit of representation. Principal Bump is also an adult character who is happy and successful in life, which is nice, especially in a show for children and teens. I would love more blind characters for the show, but I have not caught up on it yet.
I actually liked the reveal itself. It was casual and uplifting. The reveal was not portrayed in a tragic manner. It was not meant to shock audiences. The way they showed it worked for me, as well, with Bump casually showing how his Palisman helps him. His Palisman is essentially a guide animal. It works within the scope of what we have seen from them so far and I thought it was cute. From what I can gather, Bump might not be totally blind and might not require as much assistance from his Palisman, and so it doesn’t feel like curing or erasing blindness. Although I might have suggested using the Palisman along with a cane if I were doing a sensitivity reading for this character, I have no problem with a magical guide animal. The Palisman could also allow magnification, such as for reading. From what I understand, Bump says his Palisman helps him see, rather than seeing for him. I found all of this to be a positive portrayal that doesn’t seem to negate his blindness.
The only reason I would suggest cane use is because the Palisman is at head-height, which helps with navigation, but would not help as much with stairs, uneven ground, or interacting with his environment. However, Bump may also be a blind person who can mostly navigate without a cane. In this case, it would also be interesting to see transient cane use or use of other blindness techniques from him.
The Owl House is also now accessible to blind people with the inclusion of audio descriptions on the Disney streaming service for those who can afford it. As I have said before, shows with blind characters should be accessible to blind people- really, all media should. However, this is less of a problem with The Owl House show runners and more of a problem with streaming services not prioritizing accessibility and with regular television offering very little in the way of audio description. It is also a problem with DVDs and episodes available for purchase never or very rarely including audio description.
While I always bring up accessibility or lack thereof, I feel that it is an issue of lack of awareness on the part of production and distribution. While that is not the fault of individual show creators, networks and broadcasting companies could do a better job of considering accessibility than they currently do. Especially large companies such as Disney, who market to young children. While I do not know for sure if advocating at show-creator level would help, I feel that it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
Overall, I enjoyed this addition to The Owl House. I thought it was cute!

I loved the finale but kinda wished hunter got to stomp belos too then sobs from happiness knowing it’s finally over or belos stuck in the between realm forever or reliving his worse nightmare as a fate worse than death
Honestly the finale felt so odd to me because we felt like were were getting setups that just were not given resolution in the finale.
And these are setups post cut, so these are things the writers had to have planned while knowing their time, which makes it more odd to me.
like at that point the focus should be to only set up things you are going to touch on and that come back into play, not add things you don't.
I personally don't think hunter needed to watch belos die, but when the show gave him new powers last episode i kinda expected them to like....come back in the finale?
like hunter's dash has no role in the finale at all, it was useful for the one scene he got regarding willow and gus and figuring out flapjack is with him and everything.....but it's one episode before the finale and it is completely forgotten after the fact outside of a couple dashes in the archive that are relatively minor.
and he ends up getting a new palsiman anyway so it just feels....off to me. I mean i was expecting him to get a new palisman but it now almost makes his dash a bit more irrelevant to even have.
kinda like how they kill glyphs, but we get glyphs at the end anyway so why the loss at all if it's not really going to stick?
honestly, let's ignore the fact the way belos died really should not have killed him for a second, Eda, Raine, and King are the characters with some of the least interactions with belos at all in the show.
Like his rule had affects on these characters and their loved ones and he did try to have eda killed, but when you think of belos' victims.....these three tend not to not be the first 3 you think of.
i kinda think the death would of been a little better if none of them jumped in and the rain just did it.
There was some minor set up for camilia or the other kids to help finish him off so i almost think it would've been more fitting if they were the ones to do it if we HAD to have that.
i dunno man, i've heard all the arguments for why belos's death works, and a lot of it seems to be rooted in the fact that "Belos is not complicated, he's evil, he doesn't need a big death and yada yada"
but it's like, it's not that belos isn't complicated, it's that the show seemed too afraid of making him complicated. I mentioned this in my last belos post but there's lots of evidence to suggest he's a more 3d character, because of how his story ties into the stories of other characters, because he symbolically represents what people who grow up in these oppressive systems can turn into. There's a lot of real potential for belos to stand out as a villian that comes from sympathetic origins but can't be forgiven or redeemed.
Which is a good lesson for kids, that people can come from bad spots but that doesn't mean you can forgive their actions.
Something that would be far more revolutionary and interesting and tie into the themes of this show much better.....then implying his depth, not committing to it and making him generic, and everyone praising this as if generic big bads who get killed aren't extremely common in most shows.
Su was a rare exception of redeeming a big bad, not the norm, and everyone seems to be under the weird vast impression it's the other way around. Unless you're a lacky, you die as a villain in pretty much every show.
But instead that gets replaced with "Well he did it cause he's inherently a bad person", even tho the show directly told us the audience that he was in indoctrinated child when it came to witch hunting, that this wasn't something he got into because he wanted to but because he NEEDED to survive in the town.
The show has plenty of set up and evidence that he does have something deeper to him but backed out of it for one reason or another.
And remember here, they were cut at ER, so they added this whole caleb backstory AFTER the cut, so even if were were to say they wanted belos to be deeper and changed their mind.....they added all the bits that implied depth AFTER the cut.
like frankly, in retrospect, if you want belos to just be an ozai metaphor esq character and not have any depth to his villainy at all, caleb should of been entirely cut.
Do something different with hunter, because having this half finished thing with caleb that is not relevant to belos's end at all feels like baiting the audience with complexity they never get.
You could of easily just reduced philip's backstory as just being this witch hunter who went missing years ago and that would be more fitting of making belos one note as they want him to be during the finale.
having all this drama with his brother leaving him for a witch and philip acting out in response feels strange to even implement if it's not even going to be touched on that much.
the show draws so much attention to it too, which makes it extra odd.
'They wanted to tell a story in the bg for the audience to figure out", ok, so that implied they want us to care about belos's origin....right??? So why not pay that off and reward those you got invested?
Having a little story to figure out is neat but not when its the basis for the plot and not when it's existence is gonna be boiled down to "Well none of this is relevant to why he became evil. He was just like that".
like having his backstory told like this could of been great, but the show ends saying belos is not complex and that none of this matters to why he's evil despite caleb clearly being important in why belos hates witches to begin with.
i might be less bothered if i knew the crew wanted to showcase the brother's story someday but they don't even seem to be high on the list of toh spinoff ideas.
it all feels like teasing a really compelling story that tied into the themes and then dropping it last minute. And now people are rewarding that because apparently now making villains just evil is revolutionary despite the fact this has been done to hell and back since the dawn of time.
Belos went from potentially being one of the most standout modern day antagonists, to being just like everyone else, and i'm not sure why everyone thinks that's supposed to be a good thing when we had the potential to look back at toh and reward them for diving into what can make people into a belos and the cautionary tale behind it.
and now instead of being memorable in that category for doing something interesting, he's just gonna be looped in with every other generic modern day big bad who represents this specific kind of evil.
If belos is not going to actually be allowed to be complex, don't bait the audience into thinking he is.

wait can you elaborate more on the lumity thing? i don't know anything about that show or fandom, i'm just nosy lol
Please do ask me this shit, I love to bitch! So Lumity is the canon ship between Luz Noceda and Amity Blight.
Tumblr media
Luz (right) is canonically bisexual, and has expressed attraction to both men and women in the show. Amity is a canon lesbian.
I actually really enjoyed the ship, until it became canon. Then, it felt like Amity was reduced to a Luz Simp with no plot relevance, when she was one of my favorite characters beforehand. Since she basically became the deuteragonist of the show once they got together, it was really noticeable that the writers didn't really do anything with her?
I'll give the show the benefit of the doubt here. I imagine it'd be hard to write Amity plotlines if you didn't know you could get the ship made canon ahead of time, and plotlines centered around her could have been scrapped. But I dislike that she was in so many episodes, but very few episodes had her NEED to be there for the plot to work. In other words, she fails the Sexy Lamp test a lot of the time.
That being said, it doesn't excuse how fucking annoying the fandom got around the ship.
After Lumity's first kiss, but before they got together, the episode Hunting Palisman aired. In it, Luz spends prolonged time with an antagonist character, Hunter. The two of them were onscreen together before, but it lasted only a couple of minutes.
Tumblr media
(I don't care what antis say, this counts as a canon ship tease in my book.)
The two of them had a fantastic, back-and-forth dynamic, that basically made Hunter a fan-favorite character after this episode.
However, diehard Lumity shippers were quick to declare the two siblings, despite the two of them meeting twice, and actually talking once. They share no parental figures at this point.
Many of them say its "Lesbophobic" to ship anything other than Lumity. Despite, you know. Luz being canon Bi. and expressing attraction to men in show.
Then, the Season 3 episode Thanks to them airs.
And we get Luz's mother making an offhand, comedic remark about having six kids.
Antis used this line to claim Lunter were "canon siblings" at this point, but... SIX KIDS MEANS THAT ONE OF THE KIDS IS AMITY. If that line makes Lunter incest, it also makes Lumity incest. I don't make the rules. Shippers will nitpick evidence to harass the 'rival' ship, expect it isn't a rival ship at all since 99% of the fandom is obsessed with Lumity and Lumity is canon. What are the 5 people that prefer Lunter going to do? Honestly.
Then, a voice actor does this.
Tumblr media
Which I felt was really in bad taste, because it caused fandom harassment. Word of God from authors is annoying enough, but now fucking voice actors decide what is "canon" and therefore okay to harass others over? Zeno has no control over the writing of the show, his opinion does not reflect the intent of the creator.
It felt like a massive overstep of fandom-author boundaries.
The show ended with Hunter not moving in with Luz's mother, or Luz's adopted mother, but another character.
Canon siblings my ASS.
(that being said, HC what you like!)

the show should have never had belos be some puritan white dude, the boiling isles should have stayed this hostile whacky dimension instead of just bland and good except for that one evil dude, there's so much the show could have done tibbles lording his power over Eda and not letting her get the medicine she needed because of his own greed, boiling rain, the amity who would kill to be successful and if she saw a disabled witch like Willow achieving her level of success with an accommodation of some kind she'd be furious and call it cheating, Willow and Luz struggling because they have a disability in an environment that is super sink or swim and success is viewed in a very narrow lens, like what if bump didn't accept Luz into hexside because she uses glyphs? or maybe lean into the idea that people will do anything to get the money or success or power they want or need- steal cheat extort- having the isles a hostile dystopian land of intrigue, but then the story would lose the wish fulfillment element and we wouldn't get 'BAd EvIL PuRiTAn' and 'progressive' commentary- you already have bi, gay, disabled etc protagonists maybe focus on that, also fuck the worldbuilding. it felt like rejecting the coven system was like going into a trade school or straight into the workforce not like a rebellion or avoiding a cult, it felt more like being pushed to go to college and being told dropping out of school was bad- by making into a cult the show shot itself in the foot, it could have leaned into the idea not everybody wants to be an archmage or ceo or doctor or go to magic harvard that there's different types of success or that we should stop fucking over people who dont want to do something academic or something about greed and capitalism or the school system and how the isles values money and power over everything else there's a video by bad writing advice on how not to write cults and yeah toh is rough and again the show didn't need to do this, they didn't need to write a story about a cult, or they could have tied it in better with themes or greed and corruption but they already had an interesting world that they could have explored, how the owl beast curse worked exactly, also why has no one but Luz learned glyphs? We know witches did magic differently back then what if instead of Luz learning magic so easily she had to go some quest to find an ancient teacher or learn an ancient language and study super hard and learn how her magic was mechanically different from the rest of the isles, I reiterate the cult thing and wish fulfillment elements are not only unneeded but they are so contradictory! Belos whole plan hinged on the coven system and bump just gets away with letting Luz and the detention kids take every track- what if bump got arrested? And then another principal who was god awful took over- that would have been something! What if bump started to open secret underground classes for kids who wanted to take more than one course? Like there's potential there for a story but then it wouldn't fit the wish fulfillment element of the show, and it would make Luz look selfish it's just so fucking annoying pick one or the other! I love me a soft magic system and I think TOH was okay enough but I feel like the owl house could've been more creative, your magic comes from a dead titan which your land is built upon, imagine if there really where people who could speak with the titan? Could they control the city or landscape in some way, some crazy body horror shit where they can fuse with titan or control different bodily functions of the titan like it's nervous system moving the continent or it's legs etc, what makes that spell circle from amity controlling and abomination different from the one Willow uses to control plants- they are drawing the same thing- why must a witch master the basics of magic to get a palisman? Palismans are also used as disability aides why not show more of that? They could have developed so much more, the weather could have made for some great gags, just make the world building interesting

Continuing with your thoughts on Belos and the non-characters of the protagonists, as I was watching WaD I realized I was rooting for Belos rather than the main character and I wanted your thoughts on that.
Although Belos' character needs the improvements you mentioned, he at least still has agency, in that he is moving the plot along through action rather than reaction.
He has a definable goal (genociding all witches) backed by clear motivations (puritanical belief system; a witch caused him to accidentally kill his brother). He has a plan to accomplish this (rising to imperial power; creating grimwalkers to bring his brother back to life) and yet still experiences setbacks (day of unity foiled; grimwalkers always betray him). He is no less determined, and suffers for his beliefs (rotting body; traumatic hallucinations) while he aims to recoup his losses and finally accomplish his ultimate goal (first attempting to possess the Collector and failing, then attempting to possess the Titan and succeeding)
In short, Belos is a more compelling protagonist than Luz, who has things happen to her without her input (her palisman hatching, Amity telling her how to get out of the Collector's dreamworld, the Titan explaining how she can win still, etc). Also, as you said, by the end of S3 she is at her most unlikable, making us less sympathetic to her. She has no personal goals of her own that connect to her as a character beyond desperately wishing to be accepted by others, which makes her out to be more of a people-pleaser than anything (read: a flaw).
I love Luz, I really do. But she could have been more than what she became. She wasn't allowed to have an impact on the plot, and I regret that. Literally any other main character could take her place and the outcome of the finale wouldn't budge a nudge. It ended up making me root for the villain over the actual protagonist, and that seems like a pretty big problem for a show.
Okay, I try to mostly do my asks mostly in order so this has been long overdue. Let's fix that. *cracks neck* Though... Really for that big statement... This isn't one I have a great into. I've made it clear that while I dislike Luz, I actually find her easier to talk about than Belos. That I personally could never root for him because I find anything good about him to be posturing that the show not only doesn't back up but actively undermines. That a good performance and some good lines don't make up for the fact that nothing he does really has a proper impact on anything or anyone. Worse yet, I've already talked about how people really need to stop asking for 'proactive' protagonists because they're not really a thing and commonly DEEPLY detrimental to your story. So... What am I supposed to say here? Simple: Let's talk about payoff. Because at the point where you're rooting for the villain, it's because you know that they can provide a bigger, more shocking payoff than the characters and that what they have been doing, the enjoyment they have been providing, hasn't been working. Because, especially with a racist fuck like Belos, you aren't rooting for him to win. You're rooting for him to genuinely come one second from the brink of winning. This is where sheer entertainment is actually kind of a big deal. 'The Rule of Cool' exists for a reason. If it looks badass enough, has enough production value and has you screaming at the top of your lungs, SOMETHING is going right. In my opinion, this is actually why I like Michael Bae's first Turtles Movie (I saw it in the break room while working at Walmart) because yes, they destroy physics. They survive shit they shouldn't. It has some really dumb shit in it but it is ALL fun. It couldn't pump the breaks even if wanted to because they ripped them out five years ago because YOLO MOTHERFUCKERS! This is a level of entertainment that TOH understood in S1 and seemed to lose until the finale of S3. It's part of why the magic being so boring matters because I'd overlook plotholes more if the magic inciting the plotholes was more fun. It's actually maybe the ONE kindness I'll give Eslewhere Elsewhen because the time portals get some good gags when they're first introduced and I'm not going to deny that. But how about Looking Glass Ruins? It's actually a perfect showcase of when this principle works and when it doesn't. Gus' retcon on illusion is dog shit. It is one of the worst, blatant choices with the magic system. But MAN that ending sequence with Gus! Does it make sense? Not really with just how ludicrously, stupidly powerful it does paint Gus. Does it make you actively question why he spent all of S1 doing jack and shit? Yes. Is it one of the best sequences in The Owl House and genuinely lives up to how terrifying the reality of Illusion magic is? ABSOLUTELY. It's why while I hate the glyph stuff in that side of the episode, I can't hate his plotline entirely because it's just a great fantasy sequence with some good use of horror elements.
But uh... What about that Amity and Luz plot? It's an extremely basic forbidden section, it makes no sense once you find out the head librarian is a chill stoner dude and the payoff is just a cheek kiss for Luz who incited the problem in the first place. She gets it for getting Amity's job back in a high stakes, dangerous adventure... That's off screen. If you're a Lumity shipper, you eat well enough to make up for the fact that really all they do is stand around and talk with multiple backgrounds behind them the entire episode, not even entirely making sense during those moments (this is actually pretty much the ONLY episode where Amity acts dumb because of Luz. Amity doesn't make enough mistakes in the series to justify that line, potent as it is. This is also the only time she's faced actual consequences for her closeness to Luz.) Worse yet, you're robbed of the adventure and potential comedy that is theoretically the core of the show for the sake of cute, gay panic. And I like gay panic but I also kind of want to see this book dragon. One of those is creative while the fact that it's a book mouse instead of a book worm is all that's special about "This creature eats documents and then can broadcast them." And you know... That's an episode where all the payoffs still work. THE ENTIRETY OF S3 IS ABOUT PAYOFFS THAT DON'T WORK.
Luz's angst? I've talked at length about how dog shit her character finish is and that dominates SO MUCH TIME? And what do you get for it? Stringbean? A character people rightfully were pissed about being way too special and not making any sense? And still reflects poorly on Luz's character finish by being literally the opposite of what she's talking about? I did a whole blog on this too.
How about Hunter being a Grimmwalker? We get one conversation with Gus and I guess Hunter getting possessed and then getting magic, one moment that is laughably short frankly and does NOT fix the issues with Hunter's 'arc' and I still despise him getting magic through his best friend dying because it meant we'd NEVER get anything interesting out of him not having his own magic and that's without getting into anything about disability allegories. Oh, and yeah, HIS BEST FRIEND DIED AND WE JUST HAVE TO MOVE ON FOR TIME. Belos' backstory? Entirely wasted to the point where people's frustrations with it come up like once a week in my Discord because it seemed to so clearly be building up to something only for Belos to come right back around to being a dumb, boring, racist villain with nothing more interesting to him. How about villains before Belos? Well, the Collector is poorly written, makes no sense and is written like he's actually five instead of five thousand. Kikimora is the only other villain and she should have been gone so long ago and what does she lead to? Another mech fight? Who we don't even get to see beaten but instead the bully character who has been literally nothing but a joke for over a season assures as she finally got put in her place. This is writing that from a viewer standpoint is ETERNALLY infuriating. You're waiting for something to happen and the closest you get for two specials, effectively four-five episodes of the show, is Willow angst about her magic and feelings in a way that hasn't been true to her character in literally two seasons. If ever. For a character who is 90% plot device for other characters.
Honestly, at that point wanting them all dead and to see the villain win, just for the sheer shock and brutality of it all, seems kind of reasonable when you can't expect anything satisfying from the heroes. I'd argue, in my opinion, they even fucked up Belos' death for a really bad jab at fucking Steven Universe. HOW MANY SHOWS DO YOU THINK REDEEM THE FINAL BAD!? It's a lot less than you seem to think Owl House so why don't you shut up, especially after you REDEEMED THE COLLECTOR AND DID NOTHING WITH HIM! That's not even a joke. They come up with a contrivance so he can't do shit and then he fucks off. Why? Don't fucking know. Maybe the writers realized that a childish god is really hard to write around and should have given it more thought. Like... Anyone who just couldn't give a fuck by the time they're fighting Dragon Belos, especially once Luz is just given a super form so it's time for the victory lap after she didn't have to work that hard to beat the Collector (that's the impression I've been given since NO ONE talks about the Collector's redemption. Literally the only scene I've seen from that part of the episode is Luz playing with Amity's face.) so the stakes are rock bottom already. And boy, the jokes of the episode don't help with it. The fact that it's callback after callback is cute and good for a finale but how many of these jokes are robbing any momentum of the moment? Fucking everything to do with the Collector in the finale seems to be this way where it's like "Hahaha. Okay now let's actually back to the point." Even when he's trying to be serious like not understanding death, I'm sitting here going "Okay but you wanted to play with corpses and grind bones. You don't get to do this shit and not piss me off." So wanting to just make everyone shut up through Belos winning? I can get it. I definitely wouldn't but I didn't watch S3 for a reason because I recognized that with how everything was written up to it and ESPECIALLY after the first special, I wouldn't enjoy any of it. Not when its only payoffs are in fanservice and romance instead of its magic, adventure, comedy, narrative, characters... You know: Technically all the things it pitched in its beginning. It pitched by claiming to be a professional, animated, comedy adventure. So why not root for Belos? You'll get just as much rooting for him as any other part of the show. +++++++

WATCHING AND DREAMING SPOILERS!!!!!!!
-
-
-
ok but can we PLEASE talk about the future seen in watching & dreaming????
first of all: dana terrace is doing gods work out there. queer, latina, black, and trans kids will be able to see themselves in her characters and i think that is really beautiful. fuck disney for cancelling the show x100000
secondly: STOP IT BECAUSE ITS LITERALLY THE CUTEST THING EVER. i will admit at first i was VERY against huntlow but now i straight up love them, they're so perfect for each otherrrr!! also my boy hunter finally got some sleep, his eyebags are gone (hunter x sleep best ship)
also THE MATCHING FLAPJACK TATTOOS??? too cute i might (read: definitely will) cry
i LOVE how everyone was so supportive of luz!!! they all gathered together and threw a quinceañera (or should i say KING-ceañera) for her bc she missed it helping them rebuild the boiling isles... they r so cute!!
also everyone's futures are SO PERFECT. the designs are GOLD and they all got to do what the wanted to do (willow with flyer derby, gus with human studies, hunter studying wild magic and carving palismen, luz doing literally everything)
here is a comprehensive list of what the hexsquad + parental figures are doing in the future:
- hunter is carving palismen with edas parents and the bat queen. he also has a new blue-jay palisman and her name is waffles and i love her very very much
- willow is a pro flyer derby player
- flapjack..... i think we all know what happened to flapjack
- lillith is an architect and is helping to rebuild hexside (she also still has a personal vendetta against flora desplora) + she can go harpy mode!!!
- hooty is still and forever will always be just hooty and i love that.
- amity is making abomination tech with her dad and has an AMAZING new look
- mattholomule finally grew a moustache
- principal bump is now a gardener. good for him he deserves a break
- alador is a good person now and has figured out a way to get rid of coven sigils. he's also gay for darius i think (FUCK odalia bro!!!)
- darius is... idk what darius is. basically he's now hunters full ass father and is also gay for alador
- raine is helping to conduct research on the new sigil removing process but more importantly is OFFICIALLY BACK TOGETHER WITH EDA
- gus is now directing a human exchange program at a school for wild magic (!!!) and has a SICK new look
- quite possibly the best of all, eda is the headmaster of the school!!! she also has a captain hook-style hook for an arm and i think that is wonderful. she also FINALLY learned how to do the staff spin from season 1
- vee is still amazing and has a new look, also i'm seriously hoping she's with the human who worked at the gravesfield museum and did tarot because they would be SO CUTE
- luz reigns supreme as the queen of doing literally everything and has about 10 different majors at her college. she also has eyeliner skills that i am seriously jealous of
and HOW COULD I FORGET. king now has glyph magic???? he's getting powerful as fuck apparently so now luz gets to learn a whole new glyph system while she's at college
anyways final thoughts are: this episode was a masterpiece esp considering what dana was working with only having three episodes to fill. and of course, say it with me now:
FUCK WALT DISNEY!!!!
